No Time to Die is an excellent Bond film. It belongs in the company of Casino Royale and Skyfall and quite self-consciously reaches for the heights of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which is arguably the best Bond film ever.

I was especially looking forward to No Time to Die because—although it is very much a minority opinion—my favorite Bond actor is Daniel Craig. (Timothy Dalton is my next favorite, although he only played the role twice and only one of his films, License to Kill, is first-rate.) Neither Craig nor Dalton is the best-looking Bond, but they are both excellent actors who give the character some soul. Fleming’s Bond is arguably a sociopath, but one can’t say the same about Dalton’s Bond and especially Craig’s.

No Time to Die is Craig’s fifth and final Bond film and seems to bring the Bond saga to an end. But fear not, there will always be new Bond films. The whole series could be “rebooted,” but it would be far preferable to simply do “prequels.” I very much hope Tom Hardy is the next James Bond and that Christopher Nolan takes a turn or two as director.

The story arc of Craig’s five Bond films is now clear: from orphan with half-understood entanglements with surrogate parents in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, to a return to his ancestral home with a surrogate family (Judy Dench’s M and Albert Finney’s Kincade) in Skyfall, to an encounter with his foster brother—including sibling rivalries and cuckoldry—in Spectre, to Bond’s attempt to form a family of his own with Madeline Swann (Léa Seydoux) in No Time to Die. It is the family themes—especially in Casino Royale, Skyfall, and No Time to Die—that allow Craig to tap into and communicate real emotional depth and power.

There are many strong performances in this film. The best is Daniel Craig’s. Léa Seydoux is also excellent as Madeline. Rami Malek is a very effective villain. It is odd casting an Egyptian as a Russian, but it is not the first time it has happened. (See Dr. Zhivago.) The script by longtime Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade is well-constructed, making use of aspects of Fleming’s Bond mythos that have not yet been incorporated into the movies. Some aspects of the villain’s ultimate plot left me puzzled, but that is a minor problem. Half-white, half-Japanese America Cary Joji Fukunaga is an artful and effective director. The movie is well-paced, despite the long running time, and the action sequences are extremely well-done and often grittily realistic, especially the aftereffects of explosions on Bond. There’s some humor—especially Ana de Armas as Paloma who is cutely awkward—but no camp. I usually don’t notice Hans Zimmer’s music at all, but in No Time to Die, it is sometimes excellent, including a passage near the end that made me think of Arvo Pärt. (His best score remains Interstellar.) The theme song by Billie Eilish remains a snoozer, which is sad, because the themes for Casino Royale, Skyfall, and Spectre were so good.

Of course the big question is whether or not No Time to Die is “woke.” Relax. The answer is: No, not by the standard of other Bond films, which have a long history of diversity casting and race-mixing. There was a media manufactured “scandal” about casting a very black woman, Lashana Lynch, as the new 007. But she merely got Bond’s number when he retired. As Bond points out in the film, “It’s just a number.”

In some ways, No Time to Die is actually less woke than earlier Bond films. I am sure nobody will complain of a “spoiler” if I reveal that Bond doesn’t end up sleeping with Lynch’s character, which is interesting, since Bond has bedded black women in the movies starting fifty years ago with Live and Let Die. In A View to a Kill, he ended up in bed with Grace Jones, who is far scarier than Lashana Lynch.

As I predicted in my article on the trailers for No Time to Die, the claims that this movie is especially “woke” were simply a cheap publicity stunt, perhaps intended to trigger racists on the internet to give the movie free publicity. You’ve been had. But don’t be angry. Just be flattered. They did it because they know we have power.

You obviously have no discernment whatsoever.
Also, Bond was a Cold War hero. The Cold War has been over for nearly 30 years , as should have been the Bond films. They’re now rehashing the plots of previous Bond films. I’m surprised anyone wants to watch this stuff, unless you’re some Russophobic neocon.

It can be argued Rami is the first.

Although born in Egypt, Omar Sharif was Lebanese from the very fecund Shaloub family, variously spelled. A family of merchants that got around as well as their Phoenician forebears did. Egypt stopped Omar’s family cold — Nasser nationalized the family business before they could skip town. Thus leaving Omar to change his name and become an Egyptian film star in the 1950s — landing on your feet is also a Phoenician trait.

So Rami is still a first for playing a Russian, really not so odd because thanks to Russia’s huge eastern territories a small percentage of them do have an Asiatic look.

    Trevor, thanks.

I’ll see NTTD. I’m a fan of the entire Fleming/Bond oeuvre–books, short stories, films, biographies of Fleming, etc.—and, I suppose I’m in a minority in believing there’s a lot more complexity in it than generally believed.

The backdrop of the battered, bureaucratized post-WWII Britain from which tough-guy sophisticate Bond operates (in the novels) seems to me to lend an extra level of low-end tension to every story. The West’s center of political gravity had shifted to Washington, but there’s Britain still capable of putting a virtuoso agent in the field. I’m not sure American literature has produced any character in the same genre as compelling.

What’s even the point of the films? They’re just popular among old people. Before the Internet, teenagers were just hoping to see skin in most such films.

But in better news, I saw a movie “The Southerner” free on YouTube recently. Great movie. Did I mention it was free, albeit with ads that I muted?

I appreciate this review, but I’m as interested in Bond as I am in Star Wars. I’ve probably never seen a complete film of any of them. Dougie MacLean singing warnings about Scotland filling with foreigners is much more meaningful, to me, if wanting a piece of British culture.

Rebooting the Bond films set in the 1950s would solve the “problematic” whines of SJWs, as the response would be “this is how it was back then.” And then all the feminists could secretly get turned on by a sexist, dominant Bond just taking women pirate-style and then slapping them when they back talked.

Hey, it worked for Mad Men and Dom Draper.

I’d especially love if they did something really memberberries-esque and give him a love interest in a film with Sylvia Trench — the rich slut Connery banged at the beginning of both Dr. No and From Russia With Love, only for him to jet off on his real mission. Apparently, the idea was that Trench was constantly going to be in Bond films a the beginning as Bond’s “home girlfriend” and then he’d constantly leave her for his mission and the foreign women on it. Alas, they abandoned the idea after From Russia.

  15. Dumbo says:

I always found Bond movies quite silly. Even the old ones with Sean Connery, they were fun, but pretty stupid. It was just to watch some pretty women, cool gadgets and goofy villains. The new films continue being stupid, only they are worse, because starting with Sam Mendes (Jewish) awful films, they now take themselves as some sort of “serious drama”, and there’s wokeness added on top of that.

Regarding Daniel Craig: I tell my wife that I think he bears a resemblance to Vladimir Putin (like he could be Putin’s younger, wilder brother or something) and therefore that he does indeed fulfill the role of Bond in our post-Cold War era when Russia still must absolutely remain evil in the public mind.

  20. Last Bond I saw…

CASINO ROYALE with Craig. It was ok. BOURNE 1+2 were better.

Tried to see SKYFALL but too heavy. Lasted 15 min.

Didn’t see a single Brosnan. Only Moore movie I watched in entirety was FOR YOUR EYES. Painful.

Connery was a great Bond, the only true Bond, but the directors were lackluster, like for the DIRTY HARRY sequels. It has the look(and the music) but limps in style. DR. NO has the essentials, no more and no less, and is my fav. I saw two others, GOLDFINGER and ONLY LIVE TWICE, and they’re too long. Lazenby was dull and HER MJESTY is shapeless.

If only 007 had someone like Sergio Leone. What might have been possible.

Best spy thriller is IPCRESS FILE, if we don’t count MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and Hitchcock & Fritz Lang movies..

    Best spy comedies.

    Best serious spy movies.

The original Star wars trilogy was good(atleast A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back). They started sucking in the recent versions…the most recent ones are filled with social justice claptrap and the prequels of the early 00s were too CG and plastic looking. But the first two(77 and 80) were amongst the best films.

Agree with you on Bond. For some reason I just never got into these films. Cruises Mission Impossible is a better series and more entertaining.

I watched a couple of Connery Bond flicks but found them boring.

The films disintegrated to scalawag Blofeld (wink wink) taking over the world and Bond thwarting his sinister plot. The movies then shifted to Chinese criminal Dr No (again played by a Wink Wink) also in a quest for world domination. The franchise shifted to sheer fantasy with some Gook with diamonds stuck all over his face Marvel comics style. Finally, these movies seem to be all about fashion and expensive cars etc and more.

Movies tend to short circuit my bullshit meter so I do my best to keep this piece of machinery out of the repair shop. My personal preference is a good book.

In real life, Bond would never survive as a field operative. Rule number one of field craft and criminal craft is “keep a low profile”. Even the scrawniest, mangiest and lowest and ill educated Jigger street dealer knows it is stupid to be tooling around in a flashy car.

I will keep my movie money, soda money, popcorn money and candy money in my pocket thank you. The rest of the world can stump up their hard earned coin to look at this trash and make some people (wink wink) rich…………..and then complain they seek world domination……like Blofeld.

  38. I’m also in the minority camp and can’t stand the Connery or Dalton movies.

They feel like comedies that lack a punchline. The scripts are lazily written and constantly rehash the same ideas.

Then there are all the gadgets that defy physics or use half-assed special effects.

But that isn’t the worst part. The worst part is having to sit through the drawn out filler romance scenes where Bond charms some woman at a bar in an attempt to hide the lack of a story. They feel like a pre-lude to cheesy soft porn.

Even as a kid I never understood why anyone would prefer them to a Pink Panther movie. But I liked the Daltons and could stand Goldfinger and Thunderball for being so over the top stupid that they make it as B movies. I’d watch half of Goldfinger during one of those Thanksgiving marathons and call it good.

But Skyfall is actually a decent movie and one I could watch again.

Wow. That would be brilliant. Tom Hardy projects a huge amount of power, but is also capable of equally huge amounts of subtle nuance. Talk about sophisticated menace.

And I like your idea of prequels. A lot. I think they should go back to the 1950s and have the movies be completely true to the era. Of course they not only won’t do this, even if they did the movies would be so disgustingly politically-correct that they would be unwatchable. Most recent movies are as useless as Soviet-era propaganda, and those would be no exception.

I have to disagree with you about the Black 007. 007 is not just a number. It represents a massive amount of responsibility and a license to kill. If it’s “just a number” you lose the ability to suspend disbelief in the fictional universe of James Bond. It becomes meaningless.

That’s what the (((Left))) always does. It trivializes our dispossession. The (((Left))) tells us we’re unreasonable to be worried by the imposition of (((Leftist))) tyranny.
When James Bond says it’s “just a number” he is being made to shill for a seriously malignant, pathological (((Leftist))) tyranny.

So you do NOT defile that office (007) of a White civilization by giving it to an ugly, stupid, Black Affirmative-Action parasite. That will always be wrong even if the (((Left))) has made it policy.

I could never bring myself to purchase a ticket to any “tour” of geriatric rockers because I just knew down in my heart of hearts that it would never be the same as when the songs were birthed and to pretend otherwise would be pathetic. How could it be otherwise? So I listen to my music and watch my old movies knowing that they’re simply snapshots of my life within an endless stream of time. And the day will come when I too will drift into that stream and be but a sweet memory for someone else.

You can not take away Sean Connery’s contribution to the bond franchise. Had it not been for Sean there wont be any Daniel, Roger or whoever. There were several unsuccessful attempts before Connery entered as Bond. Several TV episodes without any success. in fact Roger Moore also played bond in one of them., It changed after “From Russia with Love” which happens to be Connery’s favorite. The greedy Broccli did not want to share fairly with Connery and he exited wisely and establish himself as an actor. This is not going to happen with any other Bond, Craig included.

How important it is to discuss who was the best bond. They were all good. Different folks different strokes. Bond movies are like professional wrestling. People just watch for entertainment knowing very well what is going on. At least better than Rambo series (or Rocky). Poor Ronald Reagan used to think Rambo as real and after the US Marines barracks bombing in Beirut he jokingly said that we should send Rambo there.

One thing for sure Daniel Craig is heavily exaggerated (he is all right in my opinion). And his body building experience is fully taken advantage of. One can notice his swim attire in most of the movies.

I still like old Connery or Roger Moore ones where one or two liners of humor were quite entertaining. (with “M”). Better than senseless running, car chasing, or machine guns. Bring back the good old days. When Ian Flemming asked Connery of any suggestions? Sean reply was that it lacks humor.

I am glad to see the end of Bond era with the introduction of BLM member bond, transgenders, and black female bond. If not then expect protest followed by riots.

The plausibility of something alone is a poor metric for assessment or as an excuse for this change. The obvious contemporary issues provide more explanatory power than simply dismissing it as “just a number.” If numbers are meaningless then give her another one but that isn’t what they chose to do is it?

Asians (Pakistanis, Indians, and the like) outnumber blacks by more than 2:1 in the UK, so if plausibility is your standard then it’s more plausible for the the next Bond to be running around Calcutta or Bombay in a turban.

I don’t get it. I really don’t get it. Check out this interview with Daniel Craig where he discusses his movie DEFIANCE playing a Jewish partisan fighter against the Nazis. Note that Craig completely supports the standard Holocaust narrative and he believes that it should be trumpeted far and wide.

I assume most of the people who read UNZ are Holocaust skeptics or deniers. Why would you give Daniel Craig even the smallest recognition given that he supports an ideology that you believe is false and evil?

If Hollywood had any person who was a Holocaust skeptic (like Mel Gibson) the Jewish Community will pull out all the stops to destroy that person’s career. Yet here you are tickling your ears and enjoying your stupid cinematic fantasies with an actor who represents the opposite of what you profess to believe about the Holocaust.

This is why I don’t believe you will succeed in any of your aspirations because you’re not able to maintain a consistent stance but you get blown around by the cultural manipulators. It’s really disappointing to see how weak and devoid of true conviction any of you seem to be. How hard is it to not attend a Daniel Craig movie? How difficult is it not to heap empty praise upon this person? How challenging is it not to participate in the idolization of brainless stupid Hollywood celebrities?

You people don’t know how to struggle for a goal. All you know is how to btch whine and complain. And while you’re doing that the Jews and their allies will go from strength to strength ever more consolidating their iron grip upon the global community.

According to this article, Ian Fleming was a right-wing anti-Semite! I guess the Jews have engineered a hostile takeover of the 007 firm!

In fact, Bond was the literary creation of novelist Ian Fleming, a notorious right-winger who, like many Englishmen of his generation, wore his anti-Semitism on his sleeve. Fleming’s books, unlike the much more popular films they spawned, occasionally trade in vulgar and hateful Jewish stereotypes, and whenever a character does seem Jewish, he is always a villain.

  79. My favorite Bondish movie is the remake of THE THOMAS CLOWN AFFAIR — the original by Norman Jewison is far inferior; incidentally, Daniel Craig’s look and style is closer to the rough-tough-guy image of Steve McQueen than the blend of expertise and suavity perfected by Connery.

Never cared to see any Brosnan Bond movie but he’s a remarkably good actor, like Sean Connery who was underrated because of his Bond roles.

THOMAS CLOWN AFFAIR is like Bondisms without the campiness. Bond movies are never suspenseful because we know Bond always has luck on his side. Bond stays on his feet while Clouseau stumbles, but we know they’ll always come out on top. This has become such a feature of Bond movies that it’s unconvincing when they try to be bit more real and grittier. Bond movies are part of a franchise, and there isn’t much that can be done with the formula.

THOMAS CLOWN AFFAIR has the romance, adventure, and plenty of action but minus the cartoony violence and the boring womanizing(because Bond goes through women like a series of hats).

Brosnan was terrific in NOBLE HOUSE, which is uneven(and silly at times) but its best scenes rank with THE GODFATHER.

His backstory might be company grade officer in Afghanistan or Iraq, Ivy education, old American Puritan or Dutch roots, comfortable but not wealthy. So our American Bond needs a salary to supplement his modest trust fund income.

Ian Fleming had his Bond occasionally remarking in an offhand, knowing way on British decline and dreariness in the 1950s; our American Bond ought to do likewise re America in the 2020s.

I lived for 20 years in Israel mainly in ultra Orthodox Jewish communities. Most of these communities prohibit television watching. It is written into the lease or mortgage agreements that you cannot have a satellite dish or any form of cable television and people can be evicted for violating this provision. Orthodox Jews simply do not watch television because first they don’t have the time to spare and second they understand that it is brain deadening and soul destroying.

A good place to begin the struggle is to recognize that virtually every form of entertainment, be it professional sports television sitcoms or other mindless enterprises like reality tv, and almost all movies, are all forms of social conditioning and mind control.

I have read that the executives in Hollywood never watch television except to screen the shows they are producing. They understand that it’s all brain rot and drivel. I have long argued that if 50 million Evangelical Christians would start boycotting television and movies, they could single-handedly bring down Hollywood or force it to change. But unfortunately the pastors are afraid to rock the boat and jolt their followers out of their comfort zone for fear that they will stop attending church and stop handing over their tithe money.

We are our own worst enemies. And we have zero genuine leadership.

The British secret service existed to serve the royal monarchy and the Rothschild financial monarchy since the time of Francis Walsingham. The spy character did not become prominent in the American imagination until British agent of influence Alfred Hitchcock introduced the espionage milieu in his films of the 1930s. The somewhat hidden hand of the intelligence agencies, the unacknowledged fourth branch of government, have played an active role in shaping American society since the postwar period. Present day: America seems like one big psyop.

Zardoz (1974) is a wonderful film. Even though most of those who’ve seen it consider it fantasy, I believe it ranks with 2001 and Solaris as the best in celluloid SF. The future depicted — non-elite brutals playing a role in a simulation concocted by a hidden elite — is actually our present scenario. The hidden elite or breakaway civilization control technology that made the magnificent floating godhead in Zardoz plausible is akin to the silver spheres and pyramid-shaped craft seen on US Navy footage.

I have read that the executives in Hollywood never watch television except to screen the shows they are producing.

In the suburbs where I grew up(after moving out of the big city) there were plenty of Jews, and Jewish parents seemed to be more mindful of what their kids could watch on TV.

According to Rachel Sontag in the book HOUSE RULES, her father taped the radio to NPR. She couldn’t listen to any other station.

Still, plenty of Jewish kids watched tons of TV and movies.

Yes I did too. I am talking about the ultra Orthodox Jews i knew in Israel who didn’t watch tv and didn’t own tvs.

I have read of a survey that correlates tv viewing habits with income. The highest income brackets watch 20 minutes per day. The lowest watch 6 hours per day.

Orthodox Jews would not tolerate porn for their kids. I had a Hassidic friend in Israel whose eldest son got a girl pregnant. When the families found out they immediately convened a pow-pow and announced the wedding date for six months later. That’s the biblical way actually. We learned in yeshiva that the first girl you sleep with consensually is married to you in God’s eyes. That means that American society is literally drowning in adultery.

Orthodox kids cannot access porn at home, but they can get it via the internet. I was in Jerusalem in 2005 when Mel Gibson’s movie The Passion of the Christ came out. A theater in Tel Aviv was going to screen it and had presold many tickets. At the last minute, under pressure from the Orthodox politicians, the Israeli government banned the film. I got a pirated dvd from an Arabic video shop and watched the movie in an internet cafe in downtown Jerusalem. The place with filled with ultra Orthodox teenagers who were watching sports and porn on the other computers. They hadn’t a clue I was watching Gibson’s film right next to them. Just as well as they might have murdered me!

You people don’t know how to struggle for a goal. All you know is how to btch whine and complain.

Bitching, whining and complaining kind of sums up his comment.
Still, Mevashir makes one valid point. The struggle won’t be won by well-aimed words.

The problem is the bitching-and-whining happens among the lower orders among whites and goyim.
It hardly happens at the top as white elites are yes-men cucks to Jews.
Things would look brighter for whites and goyim IF their elites bitched and whined.
Those at the top are in a position to be heard and to lead.

This is why Jews are powerful. Bitching-and-Whining has been a thing among the Jewish elites. It’s like Moses bitched-and-whined, and it mattered because he was in a leadership role. So, the Jews followed him in the bitch-and-whine fest.

This is why Jews hate Trump. Though ultimately a useless cuck, he bitched-and-whined about how America as being lost, how EU was being overrun by foreigners. Because it was bitching-and-whining from above, the white populist masses responded with fervor. They saw him as savior.
One bitch-and-whiner at the top is worth 10o,000 bitch-and-whiners at the bottom.

Elites got the power, and power + bitch-and-whining is a potent combination. Jewish elites got the money and control of media and they bitch and whine all the time about ‘white supremacism’, ‘antisemitism’, and ‘racism’. It adds up to a lot of power.

But among whites, there’s NO bitching-and-whining at the top among the RINO cuck elites, and even HBD would-be-leaders like Jared Taylor dare not bitch-and-whine about Jewish supremacist power.

This is why bitching-and-whining among whites has been mostly ineffective. It mostly happens among the lower whites but not the upper ones who kneel-and-heel at the feet of Jews.

Higher Jews lead the rest of the Jews with their bitching and whining, but higher whites, in their compliance to Jewish supremacism, suppress white passion.

Still, lower whites should keep bitching and whining because the bottom of the pot heats up before the water boils at the top.

    Populism can lead to Pot-boil-ism.

White America is like simmering on the bottom and ice at the top. Populists are on the bottom bitching and whining while the top is frozen solid with white cuckery. But more and more bitching and whining can start to melt the ice further up until the heat melts all the ice and make the whole water boil.

  129. @Mevashir

Yes I did too. I am talking about the ultra Orthodox Jews i knew in Israel who didn’t watch tv and didn’t own tvs.

But the power is not with ultra-orthodox Jews. Their role is to provide the numbers for demographic dominance. Israel is ruled by secularites whose main idea of Jewishness is ethnic, not religious.

I think what goyim need is to develop a Culture of Critique. This partly acts as shield and filter against the product put before them.

There are two ways you can deal with worldly products:

    1. Shut it off. But people who do that end up like the Amish or the folks in Shyamalan’s THE VILLAGE.
It keeps them isolated and weak. It’s like trying to go germ-free. But that means you can’t interact with anyone out of fear of germs. Also, your immunity grows weaker as it’s too sheltered from the world.

    2. Put out. Be totally open to the stuff. The problem is it soon goes from being open-minded to empty-headed as the stuff colonizes your mind and spreads cultural cancer and moral pollution. The Stuff makes you feel free and liberated but you’re just a mind-toy of the powers-that-be that control the media.

It seems most goyim approach the culture in the two ways listed above.

But there is a third way, which is to remain engaged with the culture but with a critical mentality that serves as immunity. And this immunity can grow stronger each time you use this critique-mentality. Always remind yourself that most of pop culture and media have been created for purpose of control and manipulation. Know WHO has the control of media and institutions. Know their agenda and attitude. And on that basis, ask yourself HOW they use media and information to distort reality and to control you.

Kevin MacDonald’s gripe was that Jews got Culture of Critique when it really should have been that whites lack it. Because Jews got Culture of Critique, they could involve themselves with goy culture and yet resist its influence at the same time. And over the years, their immunity grew even stronger despite such close contact with goy culture.

Of course, Jews will try to suppress white CoC by calling it ‘antisemitic’ and blah blah, but that really means they fear it for its effectiveness.

One must engage with the world as it can never be germ-free. The thing is to develop immunities.

Fully agree with this , but the problem is that without a healthy core fully free of the poisonous influence of the mass media where people can feel calm and relaxed to the cancer outside the virtual citadel you instintively end up surrendering your senses , you cant be at war 24 h/ d 365 days of the year with everything and everyone , to grow inmunity and confront it with energy we need a place that we could call home , like a sinagogue was for jews in their most horrid moment of their history

Yes, I think you’re right. It’s something of a shame, because I’ve enjoyed reading the adventures of Jason Bourne, Jonathan Hemlock, Blackford Oakes, and probably a few others I can’t remember.

Ian Fleming had the knack of making me feel at home in the England of his time. Ludlum, et. al., just didn’t do the same at offering glimpses of America for me. I wish I could think of a few good examples, but none come to mind.

Bond, to me, seemed something of a hero in an England in decline. The American secret agents were somehow “superfluities” in an America that was loaded up with nuclear weapons and was politically supreme in the West.

But the power is not with ultra-orthodox Jews. Their role is to provide the numbers for demographic dominance. Israel is ruled by secularites whose main idea of Jewishness is ethnic, not religious.

I’ve seen surveys that by 2050 the ultra Orthodox will comprise 50% of the Israeli population. They are quite confident that they are far more than just a demographic buffer but that the full power of the Israeli state and global Jewry will fall eventually into their hands.

The ultra Orthodox may not look powerful from your perspective, but from their perspective they are on the winning team and their Victory is all but assured. They have an enormous population explosion. Five children is small for an Orthodox family. If you go to the maternity ward of an Israeli hospital, there are only two kinds of women there. Charedim and Muslim Palestinians. Secular Israelis are below ZPG.

The Orthodox are amazingly successful at sucking financial support out of Rich Jews like Adelson and even Bernie Madoff in his time. The Jewish tycoons tend to feel ashamed that their Torah study is not up to par. So it’s not difficult to solicit their generous donations to support Talmudic academies and Ultra orthodox communities.

The ideas you talk about culture of critique and engagement versus isolation is also echoed in the Jewish world. The two main Hasidic movements Chabad in the diaspora in Breslov in Israel each focus on one of these approaches. Chabad has always been a movement of Engagement with a wider culture and pushing Jewish supremacism into the face of the Gentiles. That’s why the Chabad rabbis flocked to the Oval Office for a photo op when President Reagan signed the Noahide bill. In Israel the main Hassidic movement Breslov is much more separatist and under the radar. They shun secular education and flashy careers and professions.

I think there’s a parallel in Catholicism. The Chabad movement is like the Catholic priests who interface with the public and often have to be quite savvy about the secular world. Whereas Breslovers are like Catholic monks who work much more in solitude and focus on spiritual exercises behind the curtain so to speak.

On another Unz article about the elderly German lady who was arrested over alleged Holocaust complicity 75 years ago, we are discussing the issue of Holocaust reparations. I mentioned in a comment that Jews foresee a Messianic era when there is a global tax on all Gentiles to support incessant Jewish Talmudic study and lifestyle. The Talmud records that the Persian government helped to rebuild the second temple at the time of Ezra and there was a special gate in the temple commemorating that. And this is what Jews expect from the Gentile world today regarding their aspirations to rebuild another temple.

Someone there mentioned that there’s some effort to assure Holocaust reparation payments from the German government to the children and distant relations of Holocaust survivors. This is moving in the direction of what I just mentioned about a global tax on all Gentiles to support the Jewish community.

(I suppose in a sense the global Central banking system already represents this kind of tax but a bit more concealed and indirect.)

I don’t think it’s inconceivable that regarding their Holocaust scam, the Jews will start arguing that the entire Jewish nation is entitled to reparations because they have all been traumatized from having to deal with the individual Holocaust survivors. Then they might move on to argue that the entire world owes them reparations because it was only due to the complacency and apathy of the Gentile Nations that the Holocaust was able to be perpetrated under their noses. You can see where this might head.

The ultra Orthodox Jews with the exception of Chabad are not very politically savvy but they’re quite confident that the wealth of the world will be flowing into their coffers and that the various secular Zionist leaders and tycoons are simply instruments that God has raised up to effect a massive transfer of wealth from the Gentile world into the accounts of the ultra orthodox community. There are statements in Isaiah about the wealth of the Nations flowing into the hands of the Jews ingathered into Jerusalem in the end times.

England’s War with Germany didn’t start until 3 September 1939. The bomb planted at the British pavilion went off on July 4 1940, killing the two NYPD detectives who were examining it. More than likely it was indeed a false flag stunt organised by the British themselves to get sympathy in then-neutral America. Lots of pro-German types were rounded up and questioned, but no charges were ever laid. The author Ian Fleming was himself a British secret agent: by most accounts a nasty piece of work. Bond movies are mere camp.

Another example is from Goldfinger (I’m blushing as I type this).

Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton) : Where?
James Bond : Oh, I know the best place in town.

I would like to think you are correct, but I don’t. Remember I lived in Israel for over 20 years. I witnessed firsthand Palestinian rage and of course we read about it constantly in the newspapers. The Palestinians have been angry for over 70 years. They also have highly active and effective political organizations. They’ve taken the fight to the israelis. But every year their situation gets worse and worse. The Israelis continually encroach on their territory and on their autonomy. And the Israelis have waged a successful propaganda war besmirching and denigrating the Palestinian cause in the eyes of the world.

I think more and more the Internet is a form of pornography. Especially sites like this tend to addict us to the constant revelation of salacious material. Just as a person can be addicted to porn, I think we become addicted to the salacious Revelations seen here and in other right wing sites. Quite frankly psychologically we are induced to maintain the status quo in order to enjoy the thrill of anger and outrage at its abuses rather than to make effective efforts to change reality.

I think the architects of the modern-day internet and the elites understand this very well. I imagine they have top PhD psychologists like Sydney Gottlieb, who ran the CIA mind control programs, working for them and constantly tweaking the system to keep us entrapped in our anger and outrage.

Remember the internet is called the worldwide web. And what does a web do? It entraps the fly so the spider can come and eat it. The internet is not called a worldwide community but rather a web. And I think that is very deliberate and very sinister.

The ((Jews)) pretend to believe that the entire history of Western Christendom amounts to an anti-Semitic Culture of Critique, and so anti-White Critical Race Theory is payback. Additionally, they’ve created Holocaust dogma to make criticism of ((Jewry)) taboo.

They’re attempting to leverage the POC masses against the shrinking White majority in N. America, and make themselves the beneficiaries. They’re huckstering the people of color, though, for they have even more contempt for them than they have for Whites, and will use the State to do to them what they made Empire do to the Palestinians and Arabs in the Mideast.

Degenerate White and POC Zoglodytes of left and right (the “elite”) are in on this conspiracy with them, though, and so they feel confident that they can pull it off. Maybe they can until there’s nothing left to take from Whites, but I doubt it. Average Arabs are on to their Zionist game, even in N. America. Hispanics will see that these parasites will eventually be targeting them. And of course, more and more Whites are waking up every day to their betrayal at the hands of the kosher nostra Whites. “Entertainment” is rather broad term. James Bond flicks are, as I said, en-TARD-tainment. They’re not the same genre as the Marvel drivel or Fast and Furious foolery, but they are at the same level. And I’m not even a snob. I just don’t find en-tard-tainment to be entertaining.

Brosnan was very good, but a bit slight in the upper body. He was also let down by two subpar scripts and one instance of awful stunt casting.

    Very much so.

The Living Daylights is easily in my top 3 Bond films.

I will have to agree to disagree. I rate License to Kill in this territory, I think it is easily in the top 10, possibly in the top 5 of the series.

It’s both amusing and a little disturbing to see him team up with the Afghan Mujahideen.

Dalton’s breakout from a Soviet prison in Afghanistan is a fun scene made by the joyfully sadistic head jailer, mostly believable gadget, and the score:

Oddly enough, Stallone would film a much grittier, and more visceral Afghan prison escape in 1988’s Rambo III:

An excellent choice for many of the reasons you cite.

I would place it easily my the top 5 Bond films, possibly in my top 3.

My favorite aspect of the film is that Moore did an excellent job demonstrating he could play a serious, driven version of Bond.

Roger Moore turning down inappropriate sex

Yes. The filmmakers played the scene for laughs and wisely let the gag go just as it was beginning to wear out its welcome.

The French model Carole Bouquet was lovely and quite effective playing the vengeful Melina Havelock.

Topol also did well-playing the buffoonish, big-hearted Milos Columbo character that eventually delivered some very useful assists.

  178. @haha

Well said. My opinion as well.

The problem with Connery is that he tired of the role. The first 3-4 films were by far the best. Then the filmmakers started injecting some really stupid characters like “Jaws” and Southern stereotype lawmen. Recent viewers of Bond conflate the latter Connery Films with the great early films (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball) and should be sure that they view those first films before forming a final opinion. Bond/Connery was an idealized role model for young men in a time when the need for artificial sensitivity was not a requirement.

The Bond music has always been top-notch, even as the franchise aged. John Barry gave those early films a cool edge. Watch for “Beat Girl” on YouTube for more of Barry, who appears in that little gem with his band. I kept waiting for Amy Winehouse to sing one of the title songs but alas she didn’t quite make it. Adele’s Skyfall was superb.

No it’s not. Apart from a couple of action scenes, it’s boring, poorly crafted, and full of clichés.

Having braved the many obstacles to now watching a movie in France (fake ‘vaxx pass’, masking order), what a letdown. This review is way off the mark.

Pity. Daniel Craig was the closest Bond to Fleming’s version. Casino Royale, though dated, was a good start. Quantum of Solace with its raw action is pretty damn decent too. Sam Mendes’ are definitely the best shot Bonds of the whole series – proper cinema. And now this.

One could argue that part of Bond’s appeal has been the cartoonish nature of some of the films’ characters, particularly the heavies.

To be sure, that element was minimized in For Your Eyes Only.

Yes you are correct assuming the girl is a virgin. Or she is legally divorced or widowed as long as she is not committing adultery.

In the case of rape or seduction, the man is encouraged to marry the girl but if either party refuses the man is required to pay a large fine to the girl’s family for violating her virginity and reducing her value as a marriage prospect.

  191. JackOH says:
    @showmethereal

    Yes, you’re right, of course.

I sort of recall, also, that Fleming supposedly preferred flying there in the slower, prop-driven, double-decker Boeing 377, although I can’t recall specifics. I’ll guess the 377 offered Fleming a more exclusive clientele, the exotica of sleeping berths in the sky, and, maybe, attenuated “travel lag”, or whatever you call “jet lag” before jets.

I like your idea of an American ex-pat writing an American version of a James Bond character. I’d mentioned maybe a Patrick McGoohan type for a movie, and I sort of also think of G. Gordon Liddy as a possible model. His memoir, Will, is a pretty good example of a literate, well-educated American with a tough-guy persona, coupled with a willingness to break rules to serve his idea of the good and right.

An American Bond working in a world of an ascendant China, an uneasily integrated Europe, Islamist rejection of “forced Westernization”, and a Balkanized, deindustrialized America might click for me.

What did you think of Michael Lonsdale’s character “Drax” in Moonraker?

I thought the Hugo Drax character was about the right sort of megalomaniac for a Bond picture. I feel as though we can see quite a bit of Drax in the megalomaniacs currently plaguing our reality.

My main issues with Moonraker were the poor decision to beat the Jaws character’s running gag into the ground and the effects, which badly lagged the earlier Star Wars (1977) as well as Alien and Star Trek: The Motion Picture, both released the same year as Moonraker.

How about Walter Gotell’s character “General Gogol?”

General Gogol was great. He represented the sort of sober professional on both sides of the great Cold War game that was trying to gain an edge without unleashing a nuclear holocaust.

For me, Gogol was one of the few bright spots in Octopussy, and played well against Steven Berkoff’s maniacal General Orlov:

But actually China did feature prominently in Bond films.. In fact the first villain Dr No was supposed to be ethnically Chinese as were others in the film – including the first seductress that tried to have him killed. There was a very significant Chinese presence in Jamaica in the 1960’s.

That is a little harsh. I liked some of Moore’s films and i liked The Living Daylights.

Connery was smooth and taut all at once. Moore’s style was slack and lanky. There’s a difference between cool(Connery) and easy-going(Moore).

LIVING DAYLIGHTS is a joke. Action movies are like sports. It depends on the quality of the opposition. A great boxer beating up a palooka isn’t very interesting. It comes alive when he’s up against a worthy opponent. LIVING DAYLIGHTS has the most forgettable villain.

Even the Connery movies were marred by mostly weak villains, but it got worse with Moore. And LIVING DAYLIGHTS was no different. I didn’t see LICENCE TO KILL, but I hear it has a worthy villain.

One of the best villains was Dennis Hopper in WATERWORLD, one of the most unjustly maligned movies ever. It’s superb.

And in THE TERMINATOR, the villain is the star.

HARD TARGET is a dumb movie but has fun villains.

And RESIDENT EVIL has a truly grand villain.
