Dirty Harry (1971), directed by Don Siegel and starring Clint Eastwood as San Francisco Police Inspector Harry Callahan, is a classic of Right-wing cinema. Dirty Harry was hugely popular with moviegoers, spawning four sequels and a whole genre of films about tough cops whose hands are tied by the system and are forced to go outside the law in order to protect the public.

Dirty Harry articulated the growing reaction to the racial unrest, hippy degeneracy, and liberal mush of the 1960s, which led to skyrocketing crime in American cities and white flight to the suburbs. Liberalism holds that society can be ruled by impersonal laws, not men. Thus any film giving a favorable view of vigilantism—in which laws break down and individuals take justice into their own hands—is anti-liberal.

Dirty Harry was seen as a reactionary film at the time. Paul Newman declined the title role because he thought it too Right-wing. Feminists protested outside the Academy Awards with a banner reading “Dirty Harry is a Rotten Pig.” Thus I found it surprising that Dirty Harry was viewed favorably by leading critics, most of whom were liberals and Leftists, and has since been included in many “Best” lists, including the New York Times’ top 1000, Empire magazine’s top 500, Total Film’s top 100, and TV Guide’s and Vanity Fair’s top 50.

I can’t include Dirty Harry in any of my best lists, but it is still a remarkably good film, with compelling lead characters, a gripping plot, and a tight script. Filmed on locations in and around San Francisco, with creepily effective music by Lalo Schifrin, Dirty Harry captures the beginning of the long, seedy cultural hangover of the ’60s, imbuing it, if not with a glamour, at least with a gloss, bad haircuts and all. Clint Eastwood as Harry Callanan and Andy Robinson as the loathsome villain Scorpio give excellent, compelling performances.

Harry Callahan is another one of Eastwood’s taciturn Aryan heroes, a physically imposing and highly capable alpha male who becomes a protector of public order. Like most of Eastwood’s classics, the world of Dirty Harry is divided into sheep, the wolves who prey on them, and the sheepdogs who protect the flock, to borrow a scheme from American Sniper. However, despite their opposed roles, wolves and sheepdogs have more in common with each other than they do with sheep, and the flock starts bleating nervously when the dogs bare their fangs at the wolves.

Harry Callahan is 40ish. (Eastwood was 41 in 1971.) He is an Inspector for the San Francisco Police Department, a position of responsibility that requires intelligence. He is contemptuous of college boys, so he probably came up through the ranks. He is a widower. His wife was killed by a drunk driver. He does not appear to have children. His work is his life now. He probably also harbors a death wish, or at least an indifference to his own interests, which makes him more effective at doing his duties. Because Harry is more driven than other cops, he prefers to work alone. Partners tend to slow him down and get wounded or killed.

Callahan is called “Dirty” Harry because people trust him to do dirty jobs. He gets “the shit end of the stick.” Dirty work means actually confronting criminals. Sometimes you get dirt and blood on your hands. Sometimes you have to go outside the law to enforce the law. The clean jobs are reserved for the city government and police brass, whose biggest worries are lint and bad press. Their jobs are to demand results from their underlings then second-guess their every move. Dirty Harry is a populist hero because he is the stoic, competent white Atlas who carries the system on his shoulders but is also treated as deplorable and disposable by the elites.

Harry is also supposed to be a dirty because he is a hater: “Harry hates everybody: Limeys, micks, hebes, dagos, niggers, honkies, chinks.” To which Harry adds for the benefit of his new Mexican-American partner Chico Gonzalez (this movie is not exactly subtle), “Especially Spics.” Dirty Harry didn’t just pioneer the loose cannon cop genre, it also established the convention of pairing these white alpha males with non-white sidekicks. But a white alpha male mentoring another white man as a guardian of society would make Don Siegel hallucinate the sound marching feet. However, if Harry hates honkies, he can’t be a white racist. And if his name is Callahan, that makes him a self-hating Mick. In truth, Harry is merely what today we call politically incorrect.

Harry has more than just a touch of sadism, which is brought out in the movie’s most quoted scene. During his lunch break, Harry foils an armed bank robbery by three blacks, killing two with his .44 Magnum and wounding the third, whom he taunts:

I know what you’re thinking: “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I’ve kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do you, punk?

When Harry repeats the same taunt almost word-for-word at the end of the movie, the effect is chilling. You glimpse a bitter, sadistic side of his character. You wonder how many times he has done this. He enjoys killing scum. Hence his preference for pistols that can decapitate and rifles that can stop elephants.

The plot of Dirty Harry is a standard neo-noir police thriller. Harry’s quarry is a serial killer, Scorpio (based on the Zodiac killer). Scorpio was so effectively brought to life by Andy Robinson that the actor received death-threats and had to change his phone number.

Scorpio is a Dostoyevskyian criminal Untermensch. He’s physically weak, unmasculine, and cowardly, palpably seething with resentment. He screams like a pig, blubbers like a child, and develops a severe limp after Harry stabs then shoots him in the leg.

Scorpio is attracted to weak victims: a young woman in a swimming pool, a couple of homosexuals, a ten-year-old black child, a Catholic priest, a teenage girl, an old man, a bus full of schoolchildren, a little boy fishing. He prefers to kill like a coward, shooting two victims with a sniper rifle, burying another alive.

Two scenes are especially repulsive. Scorpio has kidnapped, raped, and buried a teenage girl alive. She is running out of air. Harry tracks him to his lair and doesn’t wait for a warrant. He just kicks in the door. Pursuing Scorpio out onto the field of Kezar Stadium, Harry brings him down with a .44 shot to the leg, then stamps on the wound, demanding to know the girl’s location while Scorpio shrieks “I have rights. I have rights.” If you have any doubt about where a person falls of the F scale, just show him this scene.

Of course Scorpio is released because Harry didn’t follow proper procedure. His defense was that a girl was dying, so there really wasn’t time for a warrant and a genteel interrogation. But that doesn’t matter to the Jewish DA and the Berkeley Law Professor he consults. Scorpio had rights. Harry violated them. So all of society must be punished. When healthy people watch this scene, their blood boils.

Harry, of course, won’t let this drop. He begins to shadow Scorpio in his spare time, hoping to prevent him from killing again. Scorpio is repulsive with his long hair, gimp, and fruity hippy clothes, including a grotesque peace sign belt buckle. As he wanders around parks and playgrounds looking at small children, your blood will run cold.

When Scorpio realizes he is being shadowed, he doesn’t confront Callahan or go to his superiors. Instead, he pays a black thug $200 to beat him to a pulp, then blames it on Callahan. This sequence is a viscerally powerful critique of modern liberal slave morality which rewards and weaponizes victimhood, creating an incentive to fabricate police brutality and hate crimes.

Dirty Harry’s final act after bringing Scorpio to justice is to take his badge and throw it away. John Wayne refused the role because he thought this gesture “un-American.” Eastwood did not want to do it either but came to see the logic of it.

Harry has been living the zone of what Carl Schmitt called the “Ernstfall,” the emergency situation in which the reigning liberal norms are not capable of pursuing justice. Faced with the choice of law or justice, Harry chooses justice. It is the first step down the path to the vigilante—or the superhero. The gesture, however, is wasted. Instead of evolving into something higher, Harry Callahan is sucked into the Eternal Recurrence of the movie franchise. But his viewers don’t have to be.

Dirty Harry turns fifty this year. Judging from the film, San Francisco was just as degenerate half a century ago as it is today. The main difference is that there are no adults like Harry Callahan to keep it together anymore. One has to ask: How much more ruin is left in this country, before it all falls apart? Is anyone up to the dirty job of putting it back together again?

  1. 1. Dirty Harry might have been the first time the general public got exposed to serious gun enthusiasm and the .44 magnum pistol. How many pounds do you have to be able to curl to wield that weapon effectively? At least five more pounds than I am capable of.

    2. Missing MKULTRA. In Invoking the Beyond by the Collins brothers they go to great lengths to support the claim that there is a causal relationship between CIA MK projects being prevalent in California and the sensational murders there. No Zodiac killer, no plot for Dirty Harry. The most interesting tidbit in the Collins Brothers book is that mind drug experimentation was apparently performed on Donald DeFreeze in the Vacaville prison before he became a celebrity violent criminal.

The current wikipedia article has Mae Brussel citation to support the story!

The first two sequels are worth watching but not the last two. I saw the original DH in an army theater while I was serving in an airborne brigade. When the villain is waiting to ambush a priest, the camera first zoomed in on his jump boots with white shoelaces, which caused the crowd to erupt into hoots and laughter.

  4. I did not like it very much. Dis seem to me superficial. And there was contradiction. He was fighting the young police who were killing criminals.

I did like much better the one where he was playing drunkard taking the prostitute (his wife) to court.

  5. Interesting fact. Police Inspectors on the SFPD were political appointees…they had no line authority. nor did they require police experience. With the right contacts, you could go from a civilian to a Police Inspector by fiat.

Also, before the movie, you could find S&W model 29’s in many gun shops…they were not necessarily popular. After the movie, they became unavailable…and remained that way for years, such was their popularity generated by the movie

What’s the purpose of reviewing almost 50 year old movies?

And White flight began right after WW2 when Levittown and other tract home suburbs were built. White flight was more of a 1950 60s thing By the time Dirty Harry was made a second generation of Whites were growing up in the suburbs.

It was a good movie. But it started the trend of substituting car chases shoot outs and explosions for story plot and character. They made money kept people employed had lots of fans.

  8. Jiminy says:

Very educational – I just learnt that hebes are Jews. But back then in the 70’s they would rely on a good actor and a good script and personnel to carry the movie. These days they spend all the money on over the top computer generated special effects, that truthfully seem to exist only to outdo the effects done before. So the new movies generally just resemble a video game on steroids. And of course you can’t forget the trademark saying that has entered the everyday vernacular.

  9. Excal says:

(Another great review of a fantastic movie — thank you.)

How much more ruin is left in this country, before it all falls apart?

Not much. It’s running out fast.

The entire West is struggling, but the USA is in the worst position of all. It has lost nearly every one of its former preeminences. The currency remains the world reserve, and its universities are still prestigious, but the latter are fading quickly as they drown in their own poison, and the former may not matter in the end.

Its manufacturing has become a laughing-stock; a Made In USA label now means what Made In China meant thirty years ago — unless, perhaps, an Asian or German company runs the factory. Its government has begun to behave like the most depraved and ignorant of its neighbours to the south, which it once policed: worse, since it doesn’t even pretend to protect its own people — indeed, actively hates and oppresses them — but does pretend to protect the entire world. Its military struts and preens, but cannot win anything of significance, while its generals drown it in the worst cultural poisons of the age. The products of its cultural industries are overwhelmingly decadent, revolting, indeed without redeeming qualities, so toxic that they corrupt young children around the world, making them into criminals and perverts.

The USA exalted itself to the heavens; it proclaimed itself the last best hope of mankind; it presumed to unite mankind in a “new world order”, with itself at the head. But Heaven does not tolerate such hubris forever. The nemesis may have arrived at last. Frankly, I hope so.

Is anyone up to the dirty job of putting it back together again?

There’s not enough left to put back together, and a rebuild is pointless and may be impossible. The liberal order inevitably ends in tyranny — why rebuild it? I have a certain optimism that it will soon be possible to build something new.

DIRTY HARRY: SAINT COP – REVIEW BY PAULINE KAEL
    https://scrapsfromtheloft.com/2017/12/28/dirty-harry-saint-cop-review-by-pauline-kael/

//If you go along with the movie—and it’s hard to resist, because the most skilful suspense techniques are used on very primitive emotional levels—you have but one desire: to see the maniac get it so it hurts. The movie lacks the zing and brute vitality of The French Connection, but it has such sustained drive toward this righteous conclusion that it is an almost perfect piece of propaganda for para-legal police power. The evil monster represents urban violence, and the audience gets to see him kicked and knifed and shot, and finally triumphantly drowned. Violence has rarely been presented with such righteous relish.
…Harry catches the mass murderer, but the police—in an implausible scene that really pushes its political point—decide they can’t bring him to trial, because of legal technicalities, and so they blithely release him. Although they know he has already killed several people, they don’t even bother to put a tail on him. And whom do they consult before releasing him? A Berkeley law professor, of course. Such a perfect touch for the audience. Anyone who knows San Francisco knows that in the highly unlikely circumstance that a law professor were to be consulted, he would be from the University of San Francisco, a Catholic institution closer in location and nearer in heart to the S. F. Police Department—or, if not from there, from Hastings College of the Law, a branch of the University of California that is situated in San Francisco. But Berkeley has push-button appeal as the red center of bleeding-heart liberalism; it has replaced Harvard as the joke butt and unifying hatred of reactionaries.//

//Not that it came easy, thanks to the combination of his deep-seated pacifism, and a personal phobia of guns which would make him flinch everytime he had to pull a trigger (to the point that Siegel was eventually forced to shut down production for nearly a week and enlist a firearms expert to teach him to realistically fire a gun). Couple this with the death threats he later received and Robinson may well have wished in hindsight that the part had gone to first choice, Audie Murphy, an American war hero who was killed in a plane crash before he could accept.//

//When Harry shoots Scorpio and wounds him on the football field (another nice symbol of American competition) and approaches his threateningly, Scorpio screams, “I have the right to life. I have rights!” Ironically, Scorpio has taken others’ rights to life but insists on his own. Scorpio’s release because Harry has abused his legal rights by illegal entry and torture seems an utter absurdity. After torturing Scorpio the DA asks Harry, “Where have you been?” since Harry ignored modern law. And a consulting professor agrees that the case against Scorpio has been invalidated by Harry’s actions. But Harry understands Scorpio as no one else does. He says, “This guy’s going to kill again.” When the DA asks, “How do you know?” Harry answers, “‘Cause he likes it.”Harry understands Scorpio because they are alike, and this is where the film becomes perhaps most interesting.//

//Which does not, in my view, vitiate the ways the movie is effective. Like every angry cop movie that came in its wake — and in the ’70s there were dozens — this movie’s angry cop is mad about the Miranda ruling, which cops still complain about today. In 1958 Orson Welles and Charlton Heston, in 1958’s Touch of Evil, reminded us that “A policeman’s job is only easy in a police state;” Harry Callahan’s position is that a cop’s job is difficult enough as it is. As J. Hoberman points out in his excellent book The Dream Life, “Dirty Harry in the only available hero in a corrupt, degenerate, cowardly civilization; Eastwood is the Last Cowboy.” And by the movie’s finale, he doesn’t even want the job anymore. Nor would you, given the grueling showdown with Scorpio that’s one of cinema’s most stomach-crunching sequences to this day.//

It is the best action thriller film from Clint Eastwood and director Don Siegel! Clint at his asskicking best! It is my favorite best film from Clint Eastwood and the first best one in the series. Even tough he did not directed this film he gave us one if his best performances ever! I love all Dirty Harry movies but this one is a classic and the best in the series. It has action suspense from end till beginning. A movie that will make anyone’s day, if you feel lucky punk. I have seen the first one 20 times and will argue that it’s the best with no question, but it is somewhat a matter of opinion :)//

Klaus Schwab and all the other Kazarian owned western “leaders” have declared Covid-19 to be an “Ernstfall” and consequently they have locked us down, yet there never was any false choice between law or justice. Dirty Harry’s “Ernstfall” reaction is trivial in comparison to the coordinated world wide over reaction to media fear-porn over the magic-virus.

In 1933, after the communists burned the Reichstag, Germany did face a real “Ernstfall”. Jews were on the verge of accomplishing their complete judeo-communist takeover of Germany, which would have been followed by the execution of untold millions of Germans. Hitler was the “Dirty Harry” of 1933, and his brown shirts were the Magnum 44. Just like Scorpio, the villainous jews reactive violently and declared war on all Germans and all of Germany.

Trevor Lynch perfectly describes the Ashkenazi German Jews of 1933:

“criminal Untermensch. They are physically weak, unmasculine, and cowardly, palpably seething with resentment. They scream like a pig, blubber like a child,”

  12. @Morton's toes

How many pounds do you have to be able to curl to wield that weapon effectively? At least five more pounds than I am capable of.

It’s surprisingly controllable. Especially in long barrel. Problem I have with .357 on up to the .454 Casull (IIRC the name) and the .44 magnum is the web between my index finger and thumb, it starts to tear, heh, even with replacement Pachmayer grips. a dozen shots in, I’m done. The .44 special is much more tame while throwing a good-sized slug up the road. I like revolvers. A lot of people use these for home defense, but the full-house magnums in these calibers are lousy in a residential gunfight, they go through walls, lots of walls, yours and your neighbors’. Lousy tactics if you get my drift.

But for fireworks, .357 and .44 in magnum are fun for the whole family!

  13. “Self Hating Mick”

There’s a bunch of references to Irish-Americans in the film. In The Enforcer, an African-American refers to Maxwell and his cronies as “some paddies that he (The black member of the terrorist group” met in Vietnam”.

There’s also the Catholic priest who assists them. It’s inferred (Not stated) that Scorpio is Irish-American as well (His obsession with priests, his reference in the liquor store he robs)

And in Sudden Impact, the cop whose son was one of the local townie rapists was Irish (Pat Hingle).

Interestingly, Reni Santoni’s only other real notable role years later was as a Puerto Rican Chicago Supervisor and ex-gang member presiding over an Irish-American teen killer Sean Penn who was in a private war with a 17 year old Puerto Rican drug dealer in BAD BOYS.

    “Aryanism”

Casting Norwegian-American David Soul in Magnum Force as the leader of the rogue police dressed in leather and jackboots when he storms the mafia penthouse was an obvious attempt to suggest Nazism & fascism-a rather cheap one at that. Interestingly, David Soul grew up in Berlin.

“Scorpio” doesn’t seem very weak, He goads a black thug into beating him to a pulp. He steals a gun from a liquor store owner. At the end of the film he laughs as he runs for his gun at the gravel quarry. Andy Robinson seemed to be able to personify Scorpio’s fearlessness. He also ad-libbed the line “oh my…that’s a big one”.

    “Sixties Aftermath”

Dirty Harry was released in 1971 but it was filmed in 1970 and Eastwood was 39-40 years old.

The film that really seemed to personify the height of seventies sleaze was THE ENFORCER with its Patty Hearst type terror groups, porn films that Harry literally falls into, Wanda the pothead hippie chick revolutionary and the moral ambiguity of the priest who aids them.

Also, it was seven years between ENFORCER in 1976 and 1983 when SUDDEN IMPACT was released and SUDDEN IMPACT was well-and-truly 80’s (Punk rockers try to firebomb Harry’s car, one of the rapists becomes a respectable businessman, a gang of Cholos is told by Locke to “stick a jackhandle up their asses”).

Of course the last DIRTY HARRY was actually the worst but was even more eighties with Carrey imitating Axl Rose (Eastwood always had a magnificent eye for up-and-comers like Carey and Neeson).

One strange thing about the Dirty Harry films is that were just real timepieces.

In one of the Dirty Harry films, Callahan is at the shooting range, and explains that the actual ammunition he carries in his S&W .44 magnum, is the much lighter .44 special cartridge, which he says correctly is much easier to control, not to mention less deafening

.44 special is a shorter, nearly-always much-less-powerful cartridge, with much less recoil or ‘kick’ into the hand and arm, although with a bullet of the same diametre, quite like the .38 special that you can also fire from a .357 magnum revolver

However, Dirty Harry’s admission, makes carrying the .44 magnum gun quite pointless, instead of just getting a straight-out classic S&W .44 special gun more perfectly matched to the cartridge

So ‘Most Powerful Handgun in the World’ was loaded with a light, short, ancient ‘wimpy’ cartridge LOL … Hollywood is forever clumsy about gun stuff

Old-West-Colt-etc-style single-action revolvers which need manual cocking, as e.g., made by Ruger, are easier to shoot with heavy loads like .44 magnum, because the curved handle makes the gun rock back in the hand when fired, absorbing some of the recoil … ditto with semi-automatic pistols, the slide action absorbs some of the recoil of the .45 or whatever

In Magnum Force, Harry tells the other cops on the range that he shoots his S&W Model 29 with “light Special loads.” The revolver itself remains huge, although Clint Eastwood was big enough to conceal it in a shoulder holster. I shot my .44 Magnum (a T/C Contender) almost exclusively with .44 Special loads, reserving the Magnum for sighting in, hunting and a little practice. As you said, it punishes the shooting hand. I found .357 Magnum more unpleasant to shoot than .44 Magnum because of the blast and noise. One can always practice with .38 Special, of course. The most unrealistic firearm selection in Dirty Harry was the use of a .458 Winchester Magnum rifle for a rooftop ambush.

Movies made before Hollywood went political. Before animation. Before black actors with blond girlfriends. Before glamorisation of the fake “War Against Terror”. Before the Americans “won” in SE Asia. Before the adulation of “Bankers”. Before the Americans winning WW2 by themselves …

Nah, I walked all over the city for three days 46 years ago, and was startled by how well kept the city was

In the summer of ’69, I spent a month in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. We were 3 London students (one Chinese from Singapore, one English guy and myself). We stayed in a crappy apartment. We wondered all over the place at night and we never saw anything of interest. We were never accosted. However, it was so cold that two of us decamped to Los Angeles. The Chinese guy got a job as a skivvy in a Chinese restaurant and stayed.

Los Angeles was far more violent in our experience – but that is another story. 🙂

  36. The film is absolutely anti-White. It’s sad many commenters don’t pick up on it. Take for instance this quote from Dirty Harry, which is supposed to be “cool” and “bad-ass” but in fact encourages people to internalize ethnic sadomasochism:

Harry is also supposed to be a dirty because he is a hater: “Harry hates everybody: Limeys, micks, hebes, dagos, niggers, honkies, chinks.” To which Harry adds for the benefit of his new Mexican-American partner Chico Gonzalez (this movie is not exactly subtle), “Especially Spics.”

I don’t mean any criticism towards Trevor Lynch here. I’m taking issue with the subtext of this quote.

Why is it that “political incorrectness” has to be couched in such self-defeating, misanthropic nihilism? Why does a White person have to hate himself and his race in order to be able to express politically incorrect beliefs? Ideally, a White person should be able to appreciate his/her race without there being any connotations of hatred towards others (but I’ll get back to that in a second).

The only reason people espouse such edgy nihilism is that they aren’t allowed to dislike a specific group (like Blacks or Jews), so they resort to saying “I hate everyone” to avoid being perceived as racist and to justify their political incorrectness. Ergo, this kind of edgy nihilism is extremely kosher and politically correct but you have to pay attention or else you’ll fall into the trap.

When you resort to this kind of “I hate everyone” nihilism, you are not being edgy or cool, you are just resorting to another cope – saying “I dislike Blacks” or “I dislike Jews” and unashamedly standing for the interests of your own group would be truly politically incorrect. Personally, I can understand not wanting to offend a specific group of people, and an ethnic group can assert its interests without having to belittle another group. I would much prefer a tough-guy cop who just goes after the bad guys without demeaning either his own race or any other race.

If a filmmaker doesn’t want to offend a specific group of people, be it Jews or Blacks, then they might as well just portray a tough-guy cop who hates bad people period. No need to make an issue of race at all. That would be much more preferable than the self-hating and sadomasochistic nihilism illustrated in the quote above.

Contrast this with the protagonist in another neo-noir film, Chungking Express, which is a foreign film made by a Hong Kong director. The protagonist in that film chases after Pakis and Indians in Hong Kong, notably in the notorious Chungking Mansions, which even to this day has been a little enclave for South Asian immigrants in Hong Kong (hence, it’s “bad” reputation among Hong Kong locals). The film is very disparaging towards non-Chinese, including Whites. But at no point in the film does the Chinese protagonist have to pretend to hate Chinese people.

Another point: Vigilantism is only condemned by the Left when it’s White people who take justice into their own hands in order to defend themselves. Jewish vigilantism, as demonstrated by groups like the Haganah or Irgun, or in films like Inglorious Basterds, is not going to be condemned. Vigilantism itself is not an issue for the Left unless it’s White people doing it. It is White vigilantism that ruffles the feathers of the Left and Jews especially because it’s a little too reminiscent of the Freikorps and Brownshirts.

In summary, please don’t look to Dirty Harry and the casual (and very kosher) racism of 70s-era genre action films with any kind of nostalgia. Recognize the finkelthink for what it is. The dialectic shouldn’t be between hating everyone (including your own race) vs. loving your race but also hating other races. You can love your own race or members of the in-group without having to hate members of the out-group. No more finkelthink please.

In Magnum Force, Harry tells the other cops on the range that he shoots his S&W Model 29 with “light Special loads.”

This is consistent with what real law enforcement officers who carried .44 Magnums on duty did during the period. In the 1960s Texas lawman Skeeter Skelton developed a hot .44 Special load, about 950 fps, halfway between the standard Special loads of 800 fps and the Magnum loads doing about 1200-1300 fps.

Although the .44 Special feels quite tame when shot out of a full-sized Magnum revolver, it nonetheless hits pretty hard, with ballistics almost identical to a .45 ACP.

Yes, well my son who served in the military fired the 357 of a friend and got a most unpleasant surprise similar to what you experienced. You wonder why people dont ask “if this is such a cool weapon why do virtually no armies use the thing”.

I imagine the 45 Magnum must be an amusing weapon in and of itself. Clint of course caps everything in sight with his “special load”. Well a cinema fan should get some payback for his $10 entrance fee and $30 worth of soda and popcorn.

Once Hollywood showcases a weapon every cinema goer fantasises about being the hero blasting everything like Clint. I dont remember the weapons used by Lawrence Fishburne in King of New York but apparently when the movie came out the blacks in LA who used knives and 38 revolvers went wild for those guns creating a huge underground demand. Also holding the weapon sideways always looks so cool and yet is utter bullshit. Bruce Willis in Last Man Standing firing two automatics at one time is another feast of utter bunk.

Hollywood claims their movies are fantasies and do not influence the public and to a great extent that is true. However, this is not 100% true although people who are already mentally unbalanced dont need much pushing to go off the edge.

The DH movie was a shoot em up, blow away blacks etc flick for entertainment. I dont know why we need analyse it like some great work of art. After the initial success there were the usual sequels which degenerated into utter nonsense. Hollywood flogs these things to death. I am reminded of Stallone in Rambo whereupon Arnold came out with Commando. Then Rambo degenerated into Sly taking on a platoon armed with Aks with just a bow and arrow. Rambo, Commando, Bimbo, Jimbo…………

Hollywood is a chasm of bullshit. This UR reader prefers the Library to the Cinema.

Aren’t all serial killers basically weak cowards? The most common victims are nearly always women with these guys with the exception being Aileen Wuornos, the female serial killer who killed men. I am truly convince Wuornos first victim Richard Mallory was a case of self defense. Mallory had a previous charge of sexual assault in another state. The only serial killer that I can think of that preyed on more men than women or children off hand was Carl Panzram. But as I recall this institutionalized raised monster also bashed in a child’s head for no reason other than to satisfy his need to harm another human being. Panzram also admits to having raped countless male victims. Panzram himself admitted to being buggered by a group of older hobos when he was a youth while hopping trains. Like Wuornos, Manson ( not a serial killer but he is always lumped in with them) Panzram lived a living Hell growing up, like Manson, he spent most of his life in reform schools or jails in prisons in various states. Wuornos’ childhood was one of abandonment, living in woods, being mocked, sexually abused, etc. I believe this woman was dead long before they executed her.

Obviously “Scorpio” is based on the Zodiac serial killer. Lest we forget NYC would have a serial killer also calling himself Zodiac years later, but he was apprehended, turned out to be a Hispanic male if I am not mistaken. California in the late 1960’s -1980’s was the capitol of serial killers and mass murderers, hell, the whole Left Coast for that matter. You had the gigantic yet cowardly mamma’s boy, Ed Kemper, who despite his 6’9″ 300lb frame preyed on tiny women, the I-5 Strangler aka Roger Kibbe, the I-5 Killer and former Green Bay Packer, Randall Woodfield, Gary Ridgway aka The Green River Killer, Ted Bundy who started his killing in Washington state, The Golden State killer Joe DeAngelo who wouldn’t be apprehended until decades later in 2013, was also the original “Night Stalker” and the other “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez killed males but they usually shot an unarmed husband or boyfriend or bludgeoned them while they were sleeping or in a vulnerable position. Most of their victims were females. Ted Bundy’s last victim was a 12 year old girl, Kimberly Lake out of Lake City Florida. Even serial killers like Dahmer and Gacy, two homosexuals either slipped their male victims drug laced drinks or in the case of Gacy, tricked his victims into handcuffing themselves. His victims must have not been the brightest guys around to fall for that one.

Yep, no macho serial killers or mass murderers exist, otherwise they would be killing each other or other violent predators or joining up and serving in the military. Serial killers one and all are always some of the most cowardly bunch of scum there is, and mean really what can one say about a 6’9″ man who preyed on tiny women or a former athlete like Randall Woodfield who raped and killed women. And the latest serial killer, Sam Little, a Black guy who traveled all over the country for decades before being apprehended claimed to have killed 90+ victims, most by strangulation.

Another Pacino movie, based on a real life event like Serpico, that would be worth reviewing is “Dog Day Afternoon.” This one shows how people have no loyalty at all to others. Pacino and his partner rob a bank and become quite friendly with their hostages, the ending where the freed hostages walk off without a concern for their more than hospitable captor says it all about the loyalty of humans and their me first attitudes. Of course the homosexual relationship in this Seventies movies between Pacino and his boyfriend was also risque for the time period, the Pacino character was married to a woman but apparently had also married his homosexual boyfriend as well. All 3 are great movies, and although the real Serpico was a somewhat of a hippie who lived in The Village, I think this movie appeals to right wingers or at least it appealed to me. Same with “And Justice For All,” because you see those who think they are above the law get their just desserts in the end. And in 2021 we certainly have people who feel they are above the law and institutions like the FBI and CIA are no longer revered or trusted like they were back in the 1950s through 1970s.

Not sure, but I believe it was the only department in the country to do so. In SF all it meant was detective. In other departments inspectors were high ranking supervisors in the detective division equivalent to captains and lieutenants in uniformed patrol division.

It was confusing for other departments sometimes. For instance when SFPD inspectors liaised with other department detectives. The other department’s detectives thought they were dealing with upper management. But the inspectors were just detectives. I don’t know if SFPD still uses the same terms.

All of the depictions of all ethnic groups’ crimes/milieu was accurate having no particular need for any PC pressure-

The Richard Ramirez-type Chicano liquor store robbers in the beginning of THE ENFORCER led by Rudy Ramos were completely accurate. In SUDDEN IMPACT, the Cholos on the street hassling Locke were accurate as well.

So were the blacks in the Filmore district who lusted after Tyne Daly while preaching revolution in Mustapha’s headquarters.

The black pimp who killed the prostitute (A friend of Eastwood’s in real life who always showed up in different roles in the films) in MAGNUM FORCE was realistic.

The Italian-American mobsters were realistic-they were not cuddly guys like Tony Soprano or Bobby Bacala-they were hairy lycanthropic thugs who sometimes killed call girls (SUDDEN IMPACT’s wedding scene).

And the Irish-Americans and their milieu was realistic as well. Mick of SUDDEN IMPACT was a disgusting drunken psycho. The Catholic priest in ENFORCER was a typical deluded liberal 70’s fool (These people are at war!).

The only silly obvious stereotype was the Norwegian-American David Soul as the head of the rogue police in MAGNUM FORCE…that was an obvious metaphor to Nazism which was silly.

The “Paddy Dudes”-Bobby & Wanda-had thrown over traditional morals in the Vietnam-era & became pimps, dropouts, and eventually half-baked revolutionaries.

They were not realistic exaggerations…they were simply the reality of the urban (Or in the case of SUDDEN IMPACT rural) underclass.

The only calls his secretaries always let though are ones from what Clint calls his “Jewish mafia” (his agent, his accountants and his lawyers); 3) In the 1982 film Firefox, Eastwood played Gant, an American spy who steals a super high-tech Soviet plane. A bio says that Eastwood was pleased that the Soviet dissidents who helped Gant were depicted as Jewish; (4) From 1990 to 1996, Eastwood’s romantic partner was actress Frances Fisher, now 66, whose father was Jewish. Their daughter, Francesca Eastwood, 26, is also an actress; and (5) In 2004, a reporter started to ask Clint about the Oscar chances for Mystic River (2003), a film he directed. He exclaimed: “Kinehora!” Clint then laughed and explained it was a Jewish expression meant to ward off a jinx.

That scene’s importance was due only to the great line by Eastwood. It was a perfect response to the situation he was in which could have been performed by any race!

I’m not saying that racists haven’t gotten together to talk about that film and focused only the ethnicity of the perpetrators but that quoted line was remembered and recited by racists and non racists alike

At the time the Jews did not have enough power to broadcast their true agenda since the immigration bill that has ruined this country and that the JEWS love had not had enough time to do any damage. Many ppl were pissed off at the way our society tried to force integration down our throats after after 300 years of forced separation occurring because of episodes like the Bacon Rebellion.

Due to a unified resistance of blacks and whites working together to defeat the aristocracy at Jamestown in 1650, it became a criminal offence for blacks and whites to hang together in their free time. Of course the white race gets blamed for that now by the same families that forced the separation way back then who forced whites apart from blacks with the threat of prison time if not followed. It all boils down to “What is good for the 1%” at the time of passage. Jews need a close to 50% occurrence in the population in order to get all that they want because any non-white easily is convinced to go anti-white if encouraged to do so and that has been happening big time since about 2015 and more subtly before then.

On the other hand, Jews could have just as easily promoted a respect for this great former white nation and these immigrants would mostly have followed suit.

So its not a white problem, it is a top 1% problem who are predominantly internationalist in the political goals.
I get tired of the 95% of white population who were simply following the orders of the one percent, always being blamed.

When the smokeless rounds were stabilized prior to WW I, .303 British, .30-06, 8mm Mauser, etc., they were maybe 12-15 ft-lbs felt recoil, and it was still a lot for the average soldier to handle. Manson was only 5’3″ tall so I don’t think Charlie posed that much of a physical threat to anyone, however, he impressed me with his mental strength. Manson was NOT a serial killer in any way, shape or form, have no idea why people even him lump him into the serial killer category.

Sean Penn vs. Richard Ramirez? haha. Sean Penn better stick to beating up fellow Jew Sissywood paparazzi. Sean Penn was in PC along with Ramirez at the time. Ramirez was a rail thin drug addict with rotting teeth but according to the story I heard regarding Penn vs. Ramirez, Madonna who was either Penn’s wife or girlfriend at the time, commented that the guy in the cell down from Sean was “good looking” ( maybe Ramirez had fixed his rotting teeth by then?) and Penn then told her about who the “good looking” guy was and that was that. Even a rail thin, drug addled street person would beat the living shit out of a Hollywood actor 9 times out of 10. Living that lifestyle even someone as small as Manson is not afraid of violence. Ramirez would have bloodied Sean Penn in a jailhouse confrontation without a doubt. Sean Penn is a man who makes his living PRETENDING to be someone else. Case closed. The manager of middleweight great, Carlos Monzon, Monzon would himself be convicted of killing his girlfriend/wife after his retirement, once said the best fighters aren’t in the ring, they are in jails and prisons. Violence is a way of life in prisons and prisons in Latin America make American prisons look like Holiday Inns.

Bundy was a left coaster, an effeminate sort at that, so beating up a Ted Bundy is no great feat, especially attacking a 165-170lb Bundy with a pistol, kind of an advantage, no? I don’t know if the giant Ed Kemper was ever attacked but more than likely he has had some sort of confrontation, it is inevitable in prison and doesn’t matter who you are, you will have a mud check.

Wournoss had to live a living Hell, and my guess is that a lot of her victims were scum, it has already been proven her first “victim” Richard Mallory had a record of sex abuse. I thought the movie, “Monster” was a good flick but it made Aileen and her real life girlfriend a little too good looking. Aileen’s real life lover was hideous in looks as well as inside. Her betrayal of her lover and friend is true to human nature. Aileen Wuornoss probably would have been a great person had she been given a different life in my opinion, it is a wonder she didn’t snap sooner. Aileen, like Manson and Panzram, never stood a chance of living a normal life unlike that of the life of Ted Bundy or a Randall Woodfield. Both Woodfield and Bundy were relatively good looking men and why they felt the need to rape and abuse women is baffling to a normal person whatever normal means nowadays. So it seems that killers can be made and killers can be born.

That scene of PTSD afflicted, drug addicted Vietnam Vet Chris Walken, blowing his brains out playing Russian Roulette, was an allegory for the downfall of White America. The devil’s in the details — or, more accurately, in the physics. If your son fired an S&W snubnose titanium-framed “Airweight” revolver chambered in .357, the recoil is not jus unpleasant but literally painful.

On the other hand, a heavy, all-steel, full-size revolver with a longer barrel full underlug is quite controllable and pleasant to shoot in .357.

For decades the French special forces used extremely high-quality Manurhin .357 revolvers with 8″ barrels with great success.

How about a little known movie titled, “Betrayed” starring Tom Berenger and Deborah Winger out of the late 1980s. Tom Berenger plays Sissywood’s favorite villain next to Nazis, a “White Supremacist” who falls in love with undercover FBI agent played by Winger. Besides the Jewy negative stereotypes of rural White folk and any White person not hating themselves to be abnormal and frothing at the mouth killers, the movie was decent. Just tell yourself this is yet another Jewy production of anti-White propaganda where Whitey is the racist villain and all Blacks and Jews are saints and good guys.

Another movie worth a look is “The Incident” with a young Martin Sheen and even Ed McMahon. Sheen and Tony Musante terrorize a subway car where no one is spared. Of course, Hollywood picks two White thugs, never mind this is set in the late 1960s despite the movie being in Black and White. While two guys hold a car of passengers hostage, they pick on a gay guy, mock a sleeping bum, harass an old Jew couple as well as a negro couple before a young Beau Bridges playing soldier out of the Midwest is the only one brave enough to take action. Never mind that Bridges character is hampered by having one arm in a cast. This is typical White America today. Paralyzed by fear, they allow themselves to be bullied while they wait for someone, anyone but themselves to stand up.

Judging from the film, San Francisco was just as degenerate half a century ago as it is today.

There’s a documentary on youtube somewhere about the “summer of love,” 1967 San Francisco, produced about that time. One of the early long haired hippies who resided in the city well before the summer of love described most of the new youthful transients of ’67 as essentially affluent teenagers with emotional problems. It was a strangely honest assessment from someone of his perspective.

In truth, the hippie movement (and eventually, the far left) was and is a place for people with mental illness or emotional problems to find a haven within which to camouflage themselves. Think Manson family, Marin incident, etc.

I think the Harry Callahan character was a little mentally ill, too, but he probably deserved a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, because there was always a lot of peace after he was done. And because Alfred Nobel liked explosions, too.

America was founded on vigilante justice, not “police”. The reason police developed was to regulate urban areas and industrial zones, besides control the freed black people of the South. Overall, vigilant justice is more commendable, and more in line with governed liberty. Better to put the vigilante on trial afterwards than the terrorist assassin, mass murderer, serial killer or robber bandits.

This semitical correctness only got worse in all the following DH films. All the famous so called ‘right wing’ fantasy films suffer from it. In Death Wish all the criminals Bronson shot were White.
In Taxi Driver the original script had the pimp and his cronies as black, but they were changed to White for the film. It will never change until Whites make movies for Whites.

Nice fantasy world, couldn’t be more opposite. The “Ernstfall” was the inability of
‘liberal’ Germany to protect mainstream society from the Nazis, who actually burned the Reichstag, or let it happen. When the German Parliament burned down, it was a sign that Weimar Germany was over, and since the NAZIS are who took power from everyone else, they must be the culprit. Wasn’t that the whole point? They hated parliamentary democracy. Of course you will try to have it both ways, being the “victim” and the “winner” at the same time.

Without excuses, how long did the 1000 year Reich last? 12 years

The right-wing trope is founded on weakness and decay. Trying to “look” tough, all the time, bold in the face of smaller opponents. When the Red Army shows up though, it’s “cut and run”, as usual.

Our hero, Louis de Rothschild, uses his .44 Magnum, better known as Judea, and shoots his complete magazine by declaring war on Germany. The eeevil Scorpio, or Hitler, cornered by our noble heroes, the Rothschild family, signs the Haavara agreements and agrees to ship the best jews of Germany, along with all their stolen loot, and free training and capital, off to Palestine to steal land from innocent Christians and Moslems.

Great story there “Troof”. You oughta make a movie. You might even get Liam Neeson or even Jud Law to play Louis Rothschild. Just don’t forget the scene where the eeevil Scorpio is sniping innocent Palestinians in the Gaza death camp from the 40 ft tall border wall.

The relationship between brain-splitting experimentation and California is more than casual. Lots of interesting research is beginning to coalesce on California in MKULTRA investigations. The UC system, health and medicine institutes funded by Getty and Hearst money, and the psychic attraction to the state of Golden play a role. California was an epicenter for the Aquarian-LSD culture. Two UC psychologists operated out of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic in 1967 secretly dispensing LSD to the young hippie market filling the streets. Charles Manson was one of their agents of acid.

  87. One of the sequels to Dirty Harry was The Enforcer, which I went to see on a college campus with my former high school friends — before I finally attended that university, like them, myself.

Walking home from the campus movie and some fun at their rented habitations, after midnight, a cop stopped and frisked me. He said he saw me looking in a shop window suspiciously. He frisked me. Probable cause? I don’t know, but I had to let him grab me around the upper thighs and feel deeply inside my groin — where there was nothing but my wallet and a pocket watch.

He let me go, and I walked the remaining two miles home through the cold winter night.

A black man would have reacted much differently and possibly gotten himself shot. I know a lot about this kind of scenario, and I therefore have no sympathy for blacks. None. They get themselves shot for no reason.

The cops are simply doing their best. Thank you, Enforcer (Dirty Harry / Clint Eastwood), and Boulder Cop circa 1978, for teaching me this lesson.

I saw this documentary about “Eurocrime” featuring Italians cops and gangsters.

I quote the description of the clip:
“A documentary concerning the violent Italian ‘poliziotteschi’ cinematic movement of the 1970s which, at first glance, seem to be rip-offs of American crime films like DIRTY HARRY or THE GODFATHER, but which really address Italian issues like the Sicilian Mafia and red terrorism. Perhaps even more interesting than the films themselves were the rushed methods of production (stars performing their own stunts, stealing shots, no live sound) and the bleed-over between real-life crime and movie crime.”

Gritty realism, police brutality etc but lacked a Lalo Schifrin musical score. It also starred Henry Fonda as the police commissioner so he got way too much screen time as did Widmark’s wife, played by Inger Stevens.

  111. The only criticism I have of this otherwise great review of a classic film is where you say
Harry Callahan “goes outside the law in order to protect the public.”.
I think that characterization of his behavior goes a bit far.

He definately “bucks the system” and plays “fast and loose”, but I don’t think anything Callahan does
actually crosses the line into illegality.

He is your classic American “Anti-Hero”, a type that Eastwood helped pioneer in his earlier “Spaghetti-Western” roles.

American heroes have to be “good guys” and where the anti-hero treads close to the line between “good guy” and “bad guy”, the viewer comes away eventually with the impression that he is after all “Good” in the end.

There is an interesting contrast in one of the Dirty Harry sequels where a group of cops actually do go “rogue” and totally cross the line into illegality, assasinating “bad guys”. Harry has to infiltrate the group and they try to get him to join with the leader being classicly portrayed by Hal Holbrook. To go against “The System”. But he won’t do it. In the end Callahan remains “clean” despite the nickname.

    Policed?

I was thinking of the old cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt as world policeman (see Fig. 1 below). I remembered it showing him policing Latin America, but it actually shows him bestriding the world.

I agree with you that much of this was done for the benefit of American business concerns. But by Roosevelt’s day, the American government was certainly oligarchic, so those concerns were in fact national concerns. Even if this were not the case, the protection of commerce is not an illegitimate interest for a national government.

The “police actions” were not exclusively about business, though. The expansion of the US to the Pacific placed the USA firmly on course to become the anchor power in the western hemisphere. Once it survived the Civil War, and secured its borders against feeble, corrupt, squabbling Mexico, its power could only grow. By Roosevelt’s time, the USA was established as the regional anchor power, and anchor powers must show their satellites who’s boss.

Finally, it is important not to forget the very genuine missionary spirit that has animated Anglo foreign affairs since at least the beginning of the 19th century. It is certainly disputable whether these things have been effective or helpful, but unbelievable as it may seem to us, many of the foreign adventures of both the US and UK really were undertaken from a genuinely altruistic, indeed Christian, motivation.

Unfortunately, all of that Christian motivation soon rotted away and became purely liberal. Although most of this process occurred in the 1960s, the most destructive episode may well have been Wilson’s actions in Europe following the Great War, and against the Habsburgs in Austria (with the shameful support of George V), which I believe led directly to Hitler and WWII.

In our day, the liberal motivation is showing very worrisome signs of having rotted further into a demonic post-modern nihilism. The nadir of this has so far been, in my opinion, the “Arab Spring”, though I am confident the Biden administration are now busily exploring even greater depths of depravity.

Man, great stuff. Tom O’Neill’s “Chaos” was a superlative read. He was on Rogan back in Aug of ’19 – what a great interview. Guy gave his life to diligently define the connection between the CIA, Jolly West and Manson (he comes very close to proving a connection, but it is not definitive). Anything by Dave McGowan, especially the Laurel Canyon series ties in, too.

I really enjoyed theory of Jim Jones as CIA experiment gone completely correct too. The idea of Jones as a “pied piper” of black people was an incredible hypothesis. (http://www.whale.to/b/jonestown1.html)

Then of course, there were legit (non-military industrial complex wind-up) serial killers – the HBO special (“I’ll Be Gone In The Dark”) about Patton Oswalt’s wife killing herself w/ opoids while trying to figure out who the Golden State Killer was. (Recommended, fwiw.)

Good, maybe those big glass things will finally drive the last blacks out of Hayes Valley. The very worst thing about WW2 was the importation of blacks to the cities during WW2.
1940 blacks were .08 of the population.

By 1955, 13 years after the first blacks arrived, Hayes Valley was known as Death Valley. They took over not just Hayes Valley but also adjacent Fillmore one of the most beautiful old Victorian neighborhoods and just drove Whites out by force fear and terrorism.

After the White men gays with guns and a rather ferocious volunteer security force bought the rental homes the blacks lived in and moved in, the neighborhood turned White again.

There’s a little plaza dedicated to Historic African American Fillmore. BS and BS again. The neighborhood was black from about 1942 to 1980, less than 40 years. The most criminal and dangerous years.

When the neighborhood was Japanese and White pre 1940 it was totally safe close to downtown and harbor jobs and wonderful. Only took first brave White men gays 15 years 1975 to 1990, then other Whites and Asians to turn the neighborhood around.

Like Ron UNZ, I believe anything’s better than blacks

You would need some serious training to get to the point where you could handle the recoil from a .458 Winchester Magnum. Or at least a rifle weighing 12-15 lbs. Minimum.
Anybody who wasn’t hardened to that kind of recoil would get hurt, possibly seriously.

This cute girl, 16 or 17 at the time, had no trouble with a 500 Jeffrey rifle, a cartridge that makes the 458 Win Mag a popgun by comparison:

Even the Untouchables series made a big deal of having an Indian as one of them. While all of the criminals were anglo white, even tho the mafia were mostly Italian or Jewish.

You would have to go all the way back to Birth of a Nation to see the reverse. After that movie came out in 1915, Hollywood scrambled to shut it down n make sure nothing like that would ever be produced again. The movies were mostly race-neutral until 1939. Minority worship in the movies i think began after WW2. It was an inevitable consequence of joining the wrong side.

“What’s the purpose of reviewing almost 50 year old movies?”

Huh. Usually, the right wing whine is “why do people only watch/listen to the latest crap?”

Movie used to disappear after a few years. IIRC, Casablanca disappeared and only achieved pop culture status in the 50s/60s when a Boston rep theater began showing it.

Of course TV changed that, since they needed cheap product to fill airtime (Joe Bob Briggs says that before TV horror movie shows, people thought “Incredibly Strange Creatures” was a hoax, because no one saw it in the theaters and only read about it in fan magazines). And of course, home video, and now streaming.

So yes, “old” movies are around and worth seeing (or avoiding, as the case may be). There’s a whole genre of YouTube channels along the lines of “Millennial sees Dirty Harry for the First Time” etc.

“The Deer Hunter” got mixed reviews but I thought it was a really great movie. That scene of PTSD afflicted, drug addicted Vietnam Vet Chris Walken, blowing his brains out playing Russian Roulette, was an allegory for the downfall of White America.

Agreed wholeheartedly! Amazingly unforgettable scene. However, the ‘PTSD afflicted … ‘ label pretty much became an assumed non-engineerable stereotype for the natural reaction to exposure to ‘mind-blowing’ violence against ‘normalized’ societal psychological conditioning – which, btw, can also be caused by domestic violence and can be induced through sensitization to violence (e.g. safe spaces anyone?).

Nowadays, in retrospect and given the same troop reactions during the recent Middle Eastern conflicts, this seems to have developed into a thought process in Military circles that conditioning of youth/recruits should be more flexible in that the experience of violence is not internalized but rather viewed without emotional integration. Of course, the process by which this would occur would make the troops physically, intellectually, and ‘spiritually’ far superior to the people making up the chain of command (they would question everything, which is not what is needed in time of war – only cannon fodder is needed).

I liked ‘Dirty Harry’ having recently watched it due to the COVID shut-in. If anything else, it’s a good retrospective on how society and its toys have evolved over the past 50 years (especially population density, clothing, cars and hairdos).

I think it is heresy or blasphemy to presume to know whom God hates more than anyone else, outside of explicit biblical statements on the subject of the judgement and punishment of sins and their respective rankings. I am only using a religious line of argument because it seems you use…well, a religious line of argument. Of course, if you mean in the universal “Buddhist/Occultist” sense of “the universe punishes those who allow themselves to be abused” then your statement holds some truth, though it seems oddly focused on one group. Unless you mean all the easy going lower-to-middle class types around the world.

That aside, I agree our society lacks “turbulence,” and somewhere between letting a cop grope us in the name of order and committing savage violence against those around as a base response to stimuli as “some” groups and individuals are more like to do, we can find a healthy middle ground. Then again, most Blacks lack the will to resist the actual destruction and ruination of their culture (to a worse degree than most whites), so it’s not like they are being effective or heroic by any means.

Agree no purpose in reviewing this 50-year old movie (though I don’t know what the timing of white flight has to do with it, since race isn’t even a minor theme). If some hypothetical honest professor of film were lecturing to kids about it these days, he’d have to say something like, “in those days, people were convinced that the Miranda Rule was the main threat to the maintenance of law/order. But these days, we realize that the very desire for something called “order” or “civilization” is a manifestation of white privilege, and this illegitimate.”

By the way, re your other post, are you saying there are no Trump-voting parents at your grandkids’ SHC?

  155. Dirty Harry (1971), directed by Don Siegel and starring Clint Eastwood as San Francisco Police Inspector Harry Callahan, is a classic of Right-wing cinema.

It has some right-wing tropes but ultimately cops out and settles for a conventional scenario and ending. This is true of SUDDEN IMPACT as well. Early in the picture, Callahan takes out a bunch of feral black criminals who try to kidnap a white woman for gang-bang rape, but then the rest of the movie is about a white woman taking revenge on white men as rapists. So, the black rapist angle merely serves to foreshadow the rest of the story which is about revenge against White Male rapists. (Of course, those into subtext could argue that those white rapists are actually stand-ins for black rapists in an ‘anti-racist’ cultural climate that simply wouldn’t allow a black-rapist story.) So, DIRTY HARRY movies tease us with white right-wing sentiments but ultimately opts for what is permissible. None of the Dirty Harry movies had the balls to go where THE BIRTH OF A NATION did.

Along with THE FRENCH CONNECTION and DEATH WISH, it appealed to Liberals at the time because black crime had gotten out of control. And, old-time Liberals had difficulty making sense of the so-called New Left of the 60s with drugs, degeneracy, and sex. My haunch is that the older Jews who made ALL IN THE FAMILY agreed with Meathead on talking points but with Archie Bunker at the gut level. Older Jews were confused by boomer Jews like Abbie Hoffman and the Yippies. And when Altamont and the Manson Murders happened, many older Liberals were shocked. They’d been sympathetic to the Youth Movement, but things fell apart. The fiasco of the 68 Democratic Convention pitted Old Democrats with New Radicals. Richard Nixon couldn’t have won so big in 1972 with conservative votes alone. Many Liberals were disheartened by new trends.
Also, there was a divergence between ideology(especially foisted from above as most people don’t think for themselves) and instinct(formed by personality, family, and community). Many whites had become ‘liberal’ largely due to the New Deal and WWII era. They weren’t exactly culturally or ideologically on the left but voted for FDR and Truman because they’d been through hard times. And WWII defined American Patriotism as rising to its greatest hour against the far-right regimes of Germany, Italy, and Japan. Therefore, it got seared into their minds: Liberalism = Patriotism.
Still, many of these ‘liberals’ were ingrained with ‘racist’ attitudes and Eurocentric worldview. After all, 80% of Americans polled in the 60s were opposed to race-mixing, which means a good number of Liberals opposed it too. It was only when Jews took total control of the gods that attitudes began to fundamentally change. To be sure, there was the Cold War that revitalized the Right against Godless Communism, but (1) Jews soon took control of the Narrative and made the 1950s about bad ole Joe McCarthy going after leftists who prize civil liberties (2) Vietnam War made anti-communism seem cruel and even genocidal (3) capitalism, though anti-communist, could hardly be a bastion of the Right and Traditionalism as consumerism and idolatry at their core tended to upend society, indeed more so than communism could dream of.

Dirty Harry was hugely popular with moviegoers, spawning four sequels and a whole genre of films about tough cops whose hands are tied by the system and are forced to go outside the law in order to protect the public.

Ironically, the most obvious precursor of DIRTY HARRY was HIGH NOON, a work of some controversy at the time. Though considered a classic(and even right-wing by some), it was produced by arch-Jewish-Liberal Stanley Kramer, and its script was by a communist sympathizer. And its hidden message or subtext was a dig at craven America during the Red Scare. It didn’t occur to these Jews and Leftists that most Americans supported anti-communism out of conviction, not out of cravenness. Most Americans regarded communists and their spies as the Frank Millers of the World. Sure, there were craven types who named names, but they were fellow communists or leftists who wanted to keep working, like Elia Kazan and Sterling Hayden. In HIGH NOON, the entire town is cowed by the news of Frank Miller’s return. (Miller, like Scorpio, has been freed because of the technicality of the law.) The town is meant to be a metaphor for America that is too cowardly to stand up to the likes of Joe McCarthy. Never mind that, at least for a while, many Americans sincerely regarded McCarthy as the sheriff with the guts to take on the communists.

Anyway, the sheriff in HIGH NOON has no recourse but to go it alone as all the individuals and institutions of the town simply refuse to stand by his side for one reason or another. The sheriff goes defacto vigilante. It’s like Donald Trump was effectively all alone in the final months though without the character of Will Kane(Gary Cooper). And both HIGH NOON and DIRTY HARRY ends with the lawman tossing away his badge as a sign of contempt for the system. (John Ford’s revisionist Western THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE also featured a system either too weak, inept, or corrupt to maintain law and order for children and womenfolk. No one dares to take on Liberty Valance who isn’t merely an outlaw but a tool of Big Money. James Stewart’s character finally musters the courage to take on Liberty Valance but he’s no gun-man, and John Wayne’s character, as the third man, secretly ‘murders’ Valance.)

In a way, DIRTY HARRY is like a urban Western, but it seems worse because, whereas the Wild West was understandably a hotbed of outlaws, one would expect civilization to be more orderly. But as DIRTY HARRY shows — MIDNIGHT COWBOY and TAXI DRIVER do also in greater detail — , the problem isn’t merely the system of laws and politics but the climate of culture and values. There was always the wild/savage side of man, just like there is the inner-wolf in every dog. Still, prior to the youth-centric Sixties(defined by sex and drugs under the influence of blacks, the most savage of the races, and of Jews, the most radical of the races), the wilder side had been put in its place by forces of authority, tradition, and community.
Those controls fell apart, and the character of Scorpio is like the worst manifestation/embodiment of unmoored youth mentality. While most hippies were not killers or psychos(not even close), they created a cultural petri dish from which some foul fungi grew. Indeed, this is where TAXI DRIVER and DIRTY HARRY are different. Whereas Scorpio represents the figure of both degeneracy and mayhem contra the straitlaced(relatively speaking) Callahan represents order and decency, the character of Travis Bickle exhibits characteristics of both Scorpio and Callahan. Whereas Callahan’s arch-foe, Scorpio, is indeed a real killer, there is no proof that Sport(Harvey Keitel) in TAXI DRIVER is a killer. He may have killed someone, but we can’t be sure. But even if Sport never killed anyone, he is a soul-destroyer. He’s a spoiler of values if not a taker of lives. In contrast, Bickle is sickened by the rot and wants to save the girl, but he does have the instinct of a real killer. He’s both ultra-normal and ultra-psycho.

So, there are two issues at stake here. Criminal violence and cultural decadence. DIRTY HARRY would have us believe they make a natural pair. EASY RIDER, of course, begged to differ. In it, the ‘decadent’ hippie bikers, though peddling in drugs and loose in sexual mores, are certainly not killers whereas the deep-rooted Southerners are. They first kill the civil liberties lawyer played by Jack Nicholson, and later the two bikers are blown to kingdom come.
If indeed cultural decadence = criminal violence, things would be so much simpler. We could lock up all the pimps, pornographers, freaks, drug-dealers, and etc. and crime would screech to a halt. Though cultural decadence surely creates a more hospitable environment for crime, it itself isn’t necessarily violent. If anything, decadence is problematic in its defenselessness against violence, i.e. too dazed to register what’s really happening in society.
In DIRTY HARRY, the authority seems less decadent(or even weak) than naive in its decency and commitment to the Constitution(and thus could be called almost ‘libertarian’, and of course, libertarians were the biggest critics of the Patriot Act after 9/11).

At any rate, if the main issue of DIRTY HARRY is the problems of urban crime, the problem owed less to hippies and dippies than to blacks. Indeed, many blacks who never took part in the counterculture were nevertheless arch-criminals. Also, Japan has had a pretty decadent culture for awhile, but it’s not a crime capital(though it will soon be as it begins to import lots of blacks from Africa). The problem of crime is black, and this is where DIRTY HARRY is least honest. By fixating on a degenerate freak, it creates the false impression that serial killers are the biggest threats to society when the average black street thug was the far bigger problem. While there will always be serial killers, they don’t destroy an entire city. Serial killers didn’t destroy Newark, Detroit, or Baltimore. Blacks did that. DIRTY HARRY movies focus on freaks, terrorists, or some conspiracy. They hook with scenes of black criminals, but the bulk of the stories deal with fantasies. Sure, psycho-freaks are bad, but they are few and far between.
Consider the Deep State. In another Eastwood film, IN THE LINE OF FIRE, the good decent men of the FBI and other US departments are tormented by some rogue lunatic, but as recent events have shown, the whole Deep State is compromised from top to bottom. It’s not the oddball psychos who pose the most problem but the fact that the entire system is entrenched with craven careerists who will do anything for their masters, the Jewish Supremacists of course, to be part of the power-game. John Brennan and Mike Pompeo aren’t foam-at-the-mouth clinical-psychos but, in some ways, are more dangerous because of their ‘respectability’. So, if IN THE LINE OF FIRE really wanted to get to the heart of the sickness, it would have focused less on some agent-gone-rogue than how the system itself is rigged to serve the rich and powerful, indeed to the point where even those who signed up out of idealism are little more than errand boys for the Jews. (Oliver Stone’s NIXON came closest to that.)

Harry Callahan’s ‘vigilantism’ is problematic because he is a cop who is sworn to uphold the law. But then, he’s not the top cop but a street cop who takes orders. He’s both a figure of authority and figure of rebellion. After 9/11, could we say the system went ‘dirty harry’ with the Patriot Act? Certain civil liberties were suspended to capture the ‘scorpios’ of the world, the dreaded terrorists. CIA used torture. The system trampled on the Constitution for the ‘greater good’ to keep us safe. Was this power-grab ‘right-wing’ or ‘left-wing’? Many so-called ‘liberals’ lambasted Bush II as a Christo-Fascist who was taking rights from the people. But then, the very same people were utterly silent about Obama’s even bigger push for the National Security State and relentless drone strikes to take out the terrorists. (Libs were silent even when Obama aided the terrorists to take down entire regimes deemed as the ‘bad guys’.) In a way, Neocons have mastered the rhetoric of Dirty-Harry-ism. “We can’t follow the letter of the Constitution because we must protect American lives and save innocents from foreign tyrants, the new scorpios.” And under Jewpet Biden, we are now told the state must take extraordinary measures to clamp down on “Domestic Terrorists” who would be anyone who dared to speak truth to Jewish Power. Apparently, we are now all Scorpios. DIRTY HARRY was made by Jewish Don Siegel, and I wonder if he, on some level, sensed that the movie’s style of rhetoric could be used to the advantage of Jews. DIRTY HARRY is a dangerous movie, for the right as well for the left, because it asks us not to think but just go with gut emotions(which can easily be manipulated). After the terrorist bombings of buses in London, many conservatives and rightists lauded the governments dirty-harry-like measures to clamp down harder on terrorism, but over the years, it has allowed the state to go after nationalists deemed as ‘homegrown terrorists’ or ‘domestic extremists’.

The BOURNE movies came out during the Bush II presidency, and it had a deep state asset gone rogue(or ‘vigilante’) to take on the Secret Government. And yet, most people consider the trilogy ‘leftist’. It goes to show that moral outrage is often colored by partisan politics. The very people who cheered Bourne against the Deep State were supporting Obama Administration’s Deep State against Snowden. It also means vigilantism’s ideology depends on the context. After WWII, bands of leftists went about lynching Fascists and collaborators in Italy and France. It was a bloodbath. Blacks in RAGTIME take the law into their own hands, and one could say it is ‘right-wing’ from a black nationalist perspective, but it’s the sort of thing leftists would feel greater sympathy for. The Negro of RAGTIME was inspired by the story of Michael Kohlhass, whose vigilante uprising could hardly be called right-wing given the rebellion was against the aristocracy. Harriet Tubman violated the law to help runaway slaves, and National Review says she was a great hero because she was a Republican and carried guns.

Things are further complicated(or confused) because Scorpio is presented as both a rogue hippie lefty and a ‘racist’, ‘sexist’, & ‘homophobic’ white male. But then, Charles Manson, along with the Hell’s Angels, was similarly contradictory as a hippie idol into drugs, sex, & rock-n-roll AND a white radical dreaming of a race war. (Hell’s Angels were the darlings of the hippie movement, but they supported the Vietnam War and made made up mostly of druggy deplorables.) To what extent Scorpio’s contradictions represent tortured psychosis or calculations on part of the film-makers to avoid controversy is anyone’s guess. One thing for sure, in case anyone accused the movie of featuring a counterculture villain, the makers could say, “But, he’s a racist!”

Anyway, if vigilantism is breaking the law for the greater good or one’s personal sense of justice/vendetta, there’s surely a difference when insiders do it and outsiders do it. When James Clapper lied about the surveillance state(and its violations of the US Constitution), was the system going rogue-vigilante for the greater good to keep us safe from terrorists? Or, was it violating the Constitution to amass more power for itself. And when Edward Snowden blew the whistle, was he the good guy for remaining true to the letter of the Constitution or a mush-head who thinks the world can run along libertarian principles? Who is the ‘liberal’ and who is the ‘rightist’ in that case? Was Snowden being overly idealistic in his commitment to the law, even to the point of endangering the US to terrorist attacks? Was Clapper and the Deep State justified?

One thing for sure, DIRTY HARRY isn’t about a cop who violates the law because the system does so. It’s about a cop who takes the law into his own hands because the system adheres to it because the law protects criminals with ‘rights’. This is what makes Callahan a more disturbing figure. Now, if he discovered that the system is circumventing the law to favor criminals against decent people, his vigilantism might make more sense in a Machiavellian manner. When the system won’t play by the law, why should the conscientious lawman? But DIRTY HARRY, while showing the system to be naive, does show its commitment to the Law. This puts Callahan at a considerable ethical disadvantage.

In current reality, the system is obviously on the side of BLM thugs and Antifa terrorists. Judges and lawyers, especially the Jewish kind, ignore the Constitution & ethical principles and take part in Lawfare to coddle thugs and louts favored by Jews while throwing the book at the likes of James Field whose crime was manslaughter than murder(and only because he was surrounded by people threatening his life). Under this scenario, one can understand an Oath-Keeper sheriff who takes the law into his own hands because the system is so corrupt and rigged in favor of certain groups over others. But that is NOT the ethical dilemma in DIRTY HARRY, in which, as far as we can tell, the system is committed to adhering to the law. A far more effective right-wing movie would have focused less on the fantasy of the gun — how many cops carry magnum 44’s? — and more on the power of the law, i.e. what can conservatives, libertarians, patriots, and normal decent folks do to gain control of the law and use it for sane and sound policies based on truth and are fair to all? After all, while guns can kill bad guys, it is the power of the pen that decides the laws. If the current laws aren’t working, it’s because they are either unenforced or defective. If the former, they need to be enforced; if the latter, they should be changed. But too often, the Right falls for the fantasy of the gun, which can only be the last resort. Besides, guns don’t win hearts and minds. Mao said, “Political Power grows out of the barrel of the gun”, but he wasn’t calling for militarism. It was just an admission of the brutal reality of power built on war and victory. Why did so many people want to follow Mao? Because Mao brandished a big gun? No, the Chinese Communists were effective in using words and propaganda to win hearts and minds in times of crises. So, while guns are crucial in any war, the art of propaganda decides how many people with guns are on your side. While American Right stockpiles guns, the Jews and globalists got the pens, cameras, mikes, and big tech. No wonder so many white Americans, who should be right-wing given their identity and interests, are soul-owned by anti-white enemies that control the pens and cameras. (THE ONION FIELD is more useful to the Right than DIRTY HARRY is. It shows what mastery of the law can do.) Also, in ZODIAC, it’s the brainy guy who comes closest to solving the puzzle.

John Simon, in his review of PATTON(compiled in MOVIES INTO FILM), took issue with how the movie was promoted as a heroic tale of a general who was a counterculture rebel in his own right. Apparently, the ad campaign pandered to Youth and liberals. (The screenplay was by Francis Ford Coppola who claimed to be a Liberal.) Yet, Simon noted that if the general was a rebel, it was in the name of more war-mongering, more militarism, more mayhem, and more blood & glory. (I wonder if Uncle Victor in HAROLD AND MAUDE was a parody of Patton.) Patton may have taken war into his own hands, but it was to better serve the agenda of beating the Nazis. And after the war, he itched for another, this time against the commies. Callahan is like Patton in that he’s part of the system but believes the system isn’t tough enough to go all the way, later echoed by Rambo who’s sure the gung-ho Americans would have won in Vietnam but for the backstabbing politicians. Thus, he’s a rebel only because the Power isn’t powerful enough for him. It’s like an overseer berating the master for not allowing him to whip the slaves even more.

Also, like Will Kane of HIGH NOON, Callahan might even be called something of a fool. Why does Will Kane stick around to fight Frank Miller and the baddies when the whole town doesn’t care? Why risk his own life to defend the honor of townsfolk who won’t stand by his side? Likewise, why does Callahan care? After all, the good people of San Fran elected those officials who, in Callahan’s eyes, aren’t doing enough. So, if the voters of the city want those politicians and the ‘liberal politics’, the sane thing for Callahan is to walk away from the city not worth saving. And yet, both Kane and Callahan decide to fight. Why? In the end, it may come down more to sense of personal pride and vendetta than anything else. It’s sort of what Jon Voight’s criminal character says at the end of RUNAWAY TRAIN to the cop: “It’s you and me.”

DIRTY HARRY is, of course, a fantasy despite its New Hollywood credentials of heightened realism. It was discussed in the company of such films as THE FRENCH CONNECTION, but there were as many differences as similarities. Gene Hackman was very much an archetypal New Hollywood actor. He lacked the classic features of a movie star and looked very much like a hard-nosed New York cop on the beat, and that’s what counted. Also, he’s far from perfect. He cuts corners and often plays it dirty unlike Harry Callahan who, despite his reputation, is essentially a clean and even flawless cop. Popeye Doyle(Hackman) is trigger-happy and ultimately responsible for two dead cops due to ‘friendly fire’. In contrast, Callahan is like an angel of death who never misses his target. And there isn’t an hint of corruption or personal fault in him. Even his ‘racism’ is the ironic wink-wink kind, mere tough guy demeanor, whereas Popeye Doyle really loves to stick it to blacks. This makes him heroic and mythic but hardly believable.
More interesting are the compromised characters in TOUCH OF EVIL, PRINCE OF THE CITY, and INSOMNIA. The fat cop in Orson Welles’ film is corrupt, but that’s what makes him so good. He’s so much a part of the swamp that he knows where the swamp creatures swim. His keen instincts cannot be divorced from his cynicism. He knows the heart of the crook too well because he himself has a crooked heart. He’s one of the best precisely because he’s one of the worst. He has some admirable qualities, but Welles regarded him as a tragic and evil character because, when the figure of authority violates the law, the foundation itself is corrupted. After all, what is the main difference between the cop and the crook? They both have guns and use violence, but the cop plays by the rules whereas the crook has no use for rules. But what happens when cops themselves ignore the rules? The cop in INSOMNIA is compromised but also virtuous in his own way. He’s done shady things but sometimes to do what, in his mind, was the right thing. But using a lie to send a bad guy to prison means he had to cover up that lie to save his own skin, and then, the question arises, to what extent is the coverup(amidst new scandals) to keep the bad guy in prison or to save his own ass? Also, once cops can get away with doing their own thing, who’s to say they’ll always do so for reasons of virtue than vice? How many cops are saints like Harry Callahan?

In PRINCE OF THE CITY(the best film about police work), Danny Ciello(Treat Williams) gives his rationale as to why he and his partners break the rules: They can catch more criminals. And yet, what do these cops do with the money they take from the crooks? They keep some of it for themselves. Once adherence to rules begin to break down, there’s no guarantee where it will lead. The characters in PRINCE OF THE CITY are recognizably human, whereas Harry Callahan is simply an Ideal. No wonder Pauline Kael called him something like a saint cop. Callahan breaks the rules only for the most laudable reasons and his gun always miraculously tags only the bad guys. Thus, DIRTY HARRY is a New Hollywood movie with Old Hollywood tropes. It’s no wonder John Wayne was first approached for the role. A classic Western hero in the urban jungle. But then, that’s not entirely accurate either as John Wayne and old Hollywood stars were recognizably human whereas Harry Callahan is nearly superhuman at times, especially the moment he jumps onto the school bus from a bridge. In some ways, he owes more to the nihilism of the Man with No Name of the Spaghetti Westerns than classic Westerns. For this reason, some have argued that DIRTY HARRY is about the hero and villain being two sides of the same coin, but that’s pushing it. That’s more like TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. Despite Callahan’s knack for violence at opportune moments, he’s totally a Good Guy whereas there isn’t a single redeemable quality about Scorpio.

Liberalism holds that society can be ruled by impersonal laws, not men. Thus any film giving a favorable view of vigilantism—in which laws break down and individuals take justice into their own hands—is anti-liberal.

But that is the real problem with Liberalism. By the way, the emphasis on the Law has more to do with Libertarianism and its cult of ‘Muh Constitution’. Liberalism failed in the late 60s and early 70s not because it upheld the law at all costs but because it undermined the (the rule of) Law with its sentimentalism, especially in relation to the Negro Problem. So, increasingly, the law was not applied to bad black behavior. And already by then, so-called ‘liberal’ Jews were manipulating the Law on the basis of “Is it good for Jews?”
Getting rid of racial discrimination was Liberal Constitutionalism, but Affirmative Action was not. Increasingly, so-called Liberals circumvented the Law to get whatever they wanted. Rule of Law became a game of Rule of Lawyers(backed with the Jewish-run media). However one may feel about abortion, Roe V. Wade was flimsy on Constitutional grounds, and of late, ‘gay marriage’ has NO standing in the Constitution whatever, but it became ‘law of the land’.

So, it’s wrong to characterize what goes by ‘Liberalism’ as a diehard commitment to the Law. Indeed, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad IF so-called Liberals stuck by the Rule of Law.
Under Liberalism, Jewish crooks just got slap on the wrist. Today, while the FBI investigates signs “It’s Okay to be White”, Jews get to promote Jewish Supremacism at massive AIPAC rallies. Look how Jussie Smollett got off scot-free despite his ‘hate hoax’.
So, the big irony of DIRTY HARRY is that the so-called Liberals(led by Jews of course) actually took the law into their own hands and rigged everything for their benefit. According to DIRTY HARRY, the mushy Liberals are sticklers to the law(despite the danger to the public) while Callahan is willing to bend the law to get things done. Actually, Liberals have been more like Callahan. Jews and Liberals play fast and loose with the rules to get whatever they want. They were for Free Speech when it served their purposes, but now, they are for controlling speech because ‘hate speech’ is the Scorpio of our age. We are all ‘domestic terrorists’ for daring to name the Jew or far less.

Harry Callahan is another one of Eastwood’s taciturn Aryan heroes, a physically imposing and highly capable alpha male who becomes a protector of public order.

Given the connotations, there was precious little that was ‘Aryan’ about Eastwood. He’s too deadpan and too American to be ‘Aryan’ with its implications of the Nietzschean Ubermensch. While John Wayne and Clint Eastwood usually played the alpha type, they weren’t hung-up on their superiority and got along swell with the rest of mankind. And even in HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER where Eastwood plays a low-and-dirty anti-hero, it’s purely a personal vendetta whereas an ‘Aryan’ hero has a higher vision.
Charlton Heston, in contrast, had something of the ‘Aryan’ thing going despite having played perhaps the two most famous Jewish characters in cinema: Moses and Ben-Hur. Heston was always brazen, intense, radiant. Despite his height, Eastwood always seemed to be slouching; in contrast, Heston stands tall even when sitting, as if self-conscious of his Arno-Breker-like monumental status.

But is Scorpio really a wolf? He’s more like a rat or weasel. A wolf is at least a proud and fearsome predator. Scorpio is like a parasite or scavenger. Wolves bring down animals much bigger than themselves. Scorpio goes after easy targets.
AMERICAN SNIPER is pretty good but deeply confused(or maybe genuinely complex). Many saw it as a patriotic movie, but the ‘hero’ seems a rather mindless gun-nut who’s only good for shooting people halfway across the globe. The most admirable character is the guy who thinks for himself and begins to question his role in the Middle East. Sadly, he gets shot. Interestingly enough, the ‘hero’ of the movie is a sniper, not unlike Scorpio. Sniping is perhaps the least heroic of all military roles, especially when one is a part of an invasive force and must seriously consider shooting women and children who are resisting the Occupation.

He is a widower. His wife was killed by a drunk driver. He does not appear to have children. His work is his life now.

One thing I like about Eastwood’s role as Man with No Name and Harry Callahan is the near-celibacy. Also true of Charles Bronson. (Supposedly, there’s a scene with Eastwood and a woman in bed in THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY but it was cut out.) I never cared for James Bond jumping in the sack with every bimbo and don’t care for the hanky-panky in Eastwood’s EIGER SANCTION. Women and action movies don’t mix. Put men and women together in romance movies.

Dirty Harry didn’t just pioneer the loose cannon cop genre, it also established the convention of pairing these white alpha males with non-white sidekicks.

Hardly. There was the Lone Ranger and Tonto. And Robert Culp and Bill Cosby on I SPY. And Bruce Lee as Kato as sidekick to the Green Hornet. And it goes as far back as THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS where the white man has a trusty Indian by his side.

But a white alpha male mentoring another white man as a guardian of society would make Don Siegel hallucinate the sound marching feet.

Did Siegel decide on the Mexican sidekick? I think he just directed, though the original script seems to be by a Jew named Harry Fink.

However, if Harry hates honkies, he can’t be a white racist. And if his name is Callahan, that makes him a self-hating Mick. In truth, Harry is merely what today we call politically incorrect.

Of course, the guy was just joking as to why Harry is called ‘dirty’. All he meant is Harry is a tough cop and shows no favor to anyone. It’s like the opening of FULL METAL JACKET where gunnery sergeant Hartman hollers “Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless.”

Harry has more than just a touch of sadism, which is brought out in the movie’s most quoted scene.

I don’t think the scene with Buckwheat is sadistic. And it’s even less so at the end with Scorpio. It would have been sadistic IF Buckwheat was taunted by Callahan for no reason. In contrast, Callahan is trying to defuse the situation(and putting his own life at great risk because, had the Negro been better at math, he would have realized the whitey done emptied his gun in the melee). Buckwheat, eyeing the shotgun near him, is tempted to grab it and blow away the whitey’s mothafuc*in’ ass. But after hearing Callahan’s lecture, a crude version of Professor Kingsfield’s in THE PAPER CHASE — “you lie there with a skull full of Negro Mush, which I can blow clean off” — , Buckwheat makes the wise choice.
If there’s a hint of sadism about the scene, it’s AFTER the Negro decides to give up the gun. Buckwheat, being ever so curious, just ‘gots to know, sheeeeeeeiiiiit’, whereupon Callahan gleefully pulls the trigger knowing the gun’s empty. The empty guns means Callahan was playing a game of San Fran roulette. If indeed Buckwheat had grabbed for the gun, he could have blown away the ‘honkey-ass mofo’.

In the final encounter with Scorpio, it’s not sadistic at all. If anything, Callahan is giving the punk one last chance to live. If Callahan really had a sadistic streak, he wouldn’t have said anything and just shot Scorpio piecemeal by piecemeal: a hand, a heel, a knee, the balls, etc.

You wonder how many times he has done this. He enjoys killing scum.

But throughout the movie, we sense he prefers it easy than hard. When pushed to the edge, he can get riled up and kill with a cold heart, but he doesn’t enjoy the thrills of police work. The thrill-maniac is the guy in TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. who lives for the adrenaline of chasing and being chased.

The plot of Dirty Harry is a standard neo-noir police thriller.

Lots of things have been called ‘noir’, but DIRTY HARRY doesn’t really count as one. There is an obvious bad guy in DIRTY HARRY, and the basic focus is between good cop Harry and bad freako Scorpio. Thus, it’s more like a Western than a noir. CHINATOWN is noir, a genre where the dark, corrupt, and venal are part of the mundane. Seedy corruption could be in the heart of your next door neighbor who could be plotting with your very wife to have you murdered, and you, dark soul that you are, either deserve it or have something up your sleeve as well. Good and Evil are too clearly demarcated in DIRTY HARRY for it to be noir.

Scorpio is a Dostoyevskyian criminal Untermensch. He’s physically weak, unmasculine, and cowardly, palpably seething with resentment. He screams like a pig, blubbers like a child, and develops a severe limp after Harry stabs then shoots him in the leg.

Andy Robinson did a terrific job, and the reason why the first DIRTY HARRY is the only classic owes to the villainy. Still, Scorpio is a cartoon, more Batman-and-Joker than Dostoevsky.

(Scorpio) pays a black thug $200 to beat him to a pulp, then blames it on Callahan. This sequence is a viscerally powerful critique of modern liberal slave morality which rewards and weaponizes victimhood, creating an incentive to fabricate police brutality and hate crimes.

Is the current liberalism about ‘slave morality’? Slave Morality, as I understand it, preaches to the masses to submit to their allotted roles without complaint. To be a Dalit or Untouchable is Slave Morality in the Hindu Context. Jesus preached love and brotherhood, and He sympathized with the poor & the powerless and told them to be meek & humble, and if this is Slave Morality, it was advantageous to the Powerful because the meek accepted their lowly state in This World in exchange for Eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven. If Christian Slave Morality is so dangerous to the elites and the powerful, why did they support the churches?
What is often called ‘Slave Morality’ is actually the Slave Rebellion Morality, quite a different thing. Slave Morality is about people accepting their slave roles in society. In contrast, Slave Rebellion Morality is about slaves throwing off their shackles and demanding their freedom or demanding their share of the power.
It’s when Serfs are okay with being Serfs that they are part of Slave Morality. When Serfs want to be free, they are part of Slave Rebellion Morality, and it is what distinguished the West from the Rest where the great masses internalized Slave Morality and mostly bowed down before the Master Class.

Who do we respect more? Slaves who remain meekly as slaves or slaves who fight back and want to be free and masters of their own destiny? If anything, White People now need Slave Rebellion Morality more than ever because a Neo-Slave-Morality has come to define white mass psychology. So many whites are happy-sappy to cuck before Jews, blacks, and homos as racial, moral, and even spiritual superiors. Instead of joining the White Slave Rebellion against the Jewgromo Plantation, too many whites are happy to be like Mitt Romney, the total cuck, or Donald Trump, who talks big but when, push comes to shove, takes it up the arse from his Jewish Masters.

And even though Scorpio exploits the talk of ‘rights’, those rights are the ONLY things that stand between us and the powerful. Jews got media, academia, law firms, courts, deep state, banks, big tech, and just about everything to crush us. Jews aim to take away our gun rights and speech rights. Are we into ‘slave morality’ for championing those rights or pointing to how whites are being victimized by Jews? Only if you’re willing to submit to the Great Reset. If you want to resist, you’re into Slave Rebellion Morality.

Also, the Master Morality is no better than Slave Morality. It should be obvious by now that the Master Class was never what it claimed to be. Most heirs to the throne were spoiled namby pamby brats. While those who gained power for themselves proved their will-power and mettle, their total obsession with domination blinded them to finer things. And just look at the so-called ‘best and the brightest’. What a bunch of nasty Jews and craven cuck goyim.
Also, any system of Master Class surrounds itself with the Toady Class. The powerful don’t want to be challenged, and so, they want pliable flunkies than honest and courageous people. Who did Bill Buckley choose? Rich Lowry. Who did Hilton Kramer choose? Roger Kimball. Second-rate toadies. This is the problem facing Russia. Vladimir Putin had what it took to maneuver himself to top position, but he chose too many flunkies, the kind of people who will always follow the strong horse without convictions of their own.

Now, one can argue that the current PC is a kind of ‘slave morality’ in that the liberated non-slaves still cling to their slave-identity, indeed as if past victimhood eternally defines who they are. So, blacks act like they’re still slaves, and Jews constantly invoke the Holocaust, as if they’re all a bunch of Anne Franks forever and ever. But this is clearly not the kind of ‘slave morality’ as preached by Jesus who told people to accept their miserable lot in life without complaint and look to Heaven for salvation.
If Jews and blacks were into genuine ‘slave morality’, they would be forgiving and resigned to the fallen state of the world. But, they are really driven by a fiery will-to-power to dominate, amass power, and be worshiped by others. They act like slave rebels who’d come into positions of the New Master Class, but they still yap about victimhood. But then, American History is about a people who built a new nation and became masters of the world but still invoke 1776 about how freedom-loving folks rebelled against British Tyranny. This kind of ‘slavery morality’ is merely a moral shield for the Will to Power. Ruthless Jews tell the ‘slave’ story to justify their master status over us. In a way, it’s clever thinking. People naturally love power but also want to feel justified. “Our power was gained against tyranny” surely goes a long way to justify the new tyranny.

Of course, the danger of tossing the Law is a people could end up with Adolf Hitler. Hitler did take on bad Jewish behavior and did bring some measure of justice to the German people with his restoration of territories, economy, and pride. But without independent due process of the law and rights of dissent, the New Boss can do whatever he wishes, and what if he’s pathological beneath the respectable exterior? When individuals promising justice(in exchange for absolute power) replace the legal functioning of institutions, the cure can turn out to be worse than the disease. This aspect of DIRTY HARRY was called ‘fascist’, but the communists made the same promise: “The Liberal Bourgeois order is full of BS and only serves the rich. For true justice, give us communists the power to destroy the exploitative class and you shall have justice. Real justice than empty liberal-bourgeois promises.” The result was Leninism, Stalinism, and Maoism.

Whatever the current system in the West is, it is not liberal. It is Uberall, or Jewish Globalism Uber Alles. The White Right would be in much better shape if indeed the West was truly liberal and allowed free speech and open discourse for all under the protection of the law. But Jewish dirty harrys have decided to go rogue to destroy the ‘scorpios’ of the ‘far-right’ and of course BDS. Ricky Vaughn the ‘domestic terrorist’ is now in prison because of a prank meme. It’s the time to be screaming about ‘rights’.

Looking back, the 60s and 70s went badly not because of Liberalism’s strict adherence to the Law but its selective application that increasingly favored Jews, blacks, and certain other groups over all others. The problem ultimately wasn’t with hippies, a passing fashion. Or with serial killers, who will always be with us. The real problem was blacks whose rage Jews exploited to use against whites. But when Jews let out the panther to attack whitey, it also bit him in the ass. So, movies like DEATH WISH were both Hollywood’s exploitation of white fears for profits and expression of Jewish disappointment that blacks dared to attack the Jew as well as Whitey.

Yes, Madigan is a good film. It’s not on TV as often as Dirty Harry. It had a Don Costa music score, common in the late 60’s.

Allen Dulles was not a CIA field operative.

In the 1930s he was a Wall Street lawyer at a “white shoe” firm. During the WWII, he worked for William “Wild Bill” Donovan as chief of the OSS station in Switzerland where, if I am not mistaken, he set up a back-channel to the German government among other duties. After the war, he became High Commissioner for Germany and administered the Marshall Plan which was developed by the CFR (of which Dulles was a member).

He assisted in the formation of the CIA and became its Director in the early 1950s. During the Eisenhower Administration, his brother John Foster became Secretary of State. (This marks the beginning of CIA and State’s hand-in-glove collaboration and the brothers were widely considered the most powerful men in the U.S. government.) There were an extraordinary number of coups and covert actions in Central and South America, the Middle East and Africa… including a tiny country in SE Asia, Vietnam, which was fighting for its independence from French colonialism as Dulles turned the agency into a covert action arm of the government rather than one which simply gathered and analyzed intelligence.

Dulles was commonly described at the time as playing his “mighty Wurlitzer” (i.e. the U.S. government) and more than one source has commented that his greatest achievement was placing former and current CIA men in key positions within other government agencies.

Kennedy was publically embarrassed by the Bay of Pigs, and believed that Dulles had misled and lied to him about the operation (which was planned during the Eisenhower Administration). Kennedy ultimately fired Dulles and vowed to break the agency into a thousand pieces after his re-election. Not too long after this Kennedy was dead and Allen Dulles was in charge of the Warren Commission which investigated his murder.

It’s been a long time since I researched all this, so you’ll pardon me if I’ve made any inadvertent mistakes as well as leaving out some specific facts (such as the Wall Street law firm in which Dulles was a partner, fuzzy dates, etc.). Don’t know much about his personal life, or death, but if it was as you described… perhaps some measure of justice was served.

Generally I place the birth of the American imperium at the Spanish-American War. This is somewhat arbitrary (the Monroe Doctrine, Mexican-American War and Manifest Destiny all preceded it) but it’s the first time we forcibly took territory not within or contiguous to continental North America from a European nation.

But by Roosevelt’s day, the American government was certainly oligarchic, so those concerns were in fact national concerns. Even if this were not the case, the protection of commerce is not an illegitimate interest for a national government. — Excal

While I agree with your first sentence, as simple acknowledgment of practical fact, the second does not necessarily follow. Overthrowing governments and installing puppets for the benefit of corporations and/or Wall Street bankers goes well beyond mere “protection of commerce”.

By Roosevelt’s time, the USA was established as the regional anchor power, and anchor powers must show their satellites who’s boss. — Excal

This is an imperial model to which you refer… In multi-lateral international relationships it’s unnecessary to show other nations who’s boss, unless one is threatening your territorial integrity or trade routes. On the other hand, an imperial power with satellites has a constant need to “keep them in line” and insure their continued economic exploitation.

… many of the foreign adventures of both the US and UK really were undertaken from a genuinely altruistic, indeed Christian, motivation. — Excal

The Opium Wars in China, perhaps?

Am not sure I share your somewhat rose-tinted view of US / UK good intentions of the last century, nor that those good intentions only began to mostly change during the 1960s. Perhaps, rather than blaming “liberal motivation” for “having rotted further into a demonic post-modern nihilism” you ought consider that those stated motivations were never anything more than a fig leaf for the bankers’ greed and imperialists’ ambitions.

In one of the Dirty Harry films, Callahan is at the shooting range, and explains that the actual ammunition he carries in his S&W .44 magnum, is the much lighter .44 special cartridge, which he says correctly is much easier to control, not to mention less deafening

Sure but in Dirty Harry it isn’t kicking like a 44 special.

It’s a Hollywood movie. They never get the guns right.

I have a shot a 44 and while fun at the range it would be a terrible gun for the streets of any metropolitan city. Yes it shoots a big heavy round but it takes two hands for decent accuracy. It is also heavy and unwieldy. People underestimate how heavy these revolvers are. The 44 is fun but no one is getting up from a 357 magnum round.

Dirty Harry would have been a better movie had the movie taken place in a city like Chicago or NYC. Either way I am sure Hymiewood would have Harry blowing away more White criminals than Dindus. Lest we forget in real life, Clint Eastwood supported the little Jew known as Mayor Mike Bloomberg for President.

Dirty Harry was directed by Don Siegel (yes Jewish) and Clint Eastwood was just an actor then.

    So there goes that theory.

Anyways Eastwood is actually a race denying Libertarian.

A black man would have reacted much differently

I am White and I would never let a cop touch my groin over looking into a shop window.

I once had a she-cop point a gun to my head over something completely stupid. There are some real knucklehead police out there that need to be told to f— off. I support the police in general but I’m not going to pretend they are all honorable.

BTW, what that cop did was a standard, “SOP, Stand Operating Procedure” frisk. My description probably makes it sound worse than it was. He just searched me, okay? The pockets of typical Levi’s jeans and such then (as now) were right in front, so a search had to include them. He didn’t do anything inappropriate. No big deal at all. Do you see how you, like a black man, are turning this into something it is not?

“Stop and frisk” is okay, and that is what I experienced then, as a very white boy in a very white town. In case you can’t tell, that is my point.

Yes if only there were non-Jewish movie makers like Quentin Tarrentino that make wholesome upscale entertainment with realistic characters.

And what exactly prevented Scorsese from using the original Taxi Driver script? Or making a realistic crime movie? The guy grew up in NY and yet nearly always uses Italians and Irish as antagonists.

    ― William E. Colby

Hmmm. I wonder what secrets “in our ballot box” Colby thought should be protected.

The Bay of Pigs operation was planned by E. Howard Hunt and VP Richard M. Nixon.

After President John F. Kennedy fired Dulles in 1961 for the Bay of Pigs failure, Hunt served as the first Chief of Covert Action for the Domestic Operations Division (DODS) from 1962 to 1964.

Later, Nixon was in Dallas representing Pepsi’s Don Kendall at a sody pop convention when JFK was assassinated. For some reason, Nixon told several fibs that he’d already flown out of Dallas before Kennedy was killed, so it seems Richard Nixon had a guilty conscience about the events of Nov. 22, 1963.

  183. Alden: “What’s the purpose of reviewing almost 50 year old movies?”

If you’re going to review a movie, it makes your review more interesting if it’s a movie just about everyone on the blight wing has seen. Since the blight wing is filled with cop-worshiping retards, “Dirty Harry” is a particularly good choice.

Alden: “It was a good movie. But it started the trend of substituting car chases shoot outs and explosions for story plot and character. They made money kept people employed had lots of fans. ”

From the standpoint of so-called white nationalism, it’s notable for a couple of reasons.

Primarily, it showcases the moronic love that the retards of the racial right have for the very system that is oppressing them and killing their race. The fictional hero Harry holds out to them the false hope that the system can be rehabilitated and made to run “properly”. A deeper analysis, of which these imbeciles are one and all incapable, would show that this system is inherently corrupt and anti-racist at its core. If your object is to save your race, it can’t be reformed, only destroyed.

Also, there are some interesting connections to actual crimes and societal changes.

Actual crimes: No one has yet mentioned that the beginning of the film, featuring Scorpio as a rooftop sniper, is reminiscent of the Charles Whitman tower shootings, which would still have been fresh in the public mind, having occurred just a few years before the movie’s release.

Also, in a weird case of what conspiracy theorists would probably want to call revelation of the method, or maybe, retrocognition, this movie appears to have served as a blueprint for the Chowchilla kidnapping of a bus full of schoolchildren in 1976.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Chowchilla_kidnapping
    https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/08/us/chowchilla-dirty-harry-kidnapper-denied-parole-trnd/index.html

Societal changes: After “Dirty Harry” showed Scorpio spraying automatic weapons fire at Harry and his Mexican sidekick, it was roughly then that began a campaign to arm your local police departments with military-grade weapons more suitable for the police state America was soon to become. Well do I remember the police whining at that time that “The criminals are better armed than we are!” and the cop-worshiping retards that make up the majority of the American public nodding along in sympathy. In reality, of course, it has been extremely rare for criminals to use fully automatic weapons. The assertion that the police were frequently outgunned was just a lie, propaganda to excuse the transformation of the police into a kind of military occupation force. The movie served to spread this lie.

  184. The blacks in SUDDEN IMPACT did not attempt to gang rape any white woman-they tried to rob a diner & the last one standing took a waitress hostage before surrendering.

Some of the white rapists are scum, others became respectable business people. The store owner tries to rationalize it to Locke “I was a stupid kid”. Mick, the Irish-American Alpha-psycho of the pack, leaves the town for Vegas & manages to get by there but is still into sexual sadism (He has beat up prostitutes regularly it seems) while the bisexual nympho went on to be a salty barfly. The Irish cop’s son attempted suicide. The first victim drifted to San Francisco where he was “mostly clean” as Harry’s superior says “but definitely in the shade”.

Also, the whites don’t kill Locke or her sister. Which feral black thugs would do. The two sisters went to an amusement park boardwalk where, with alcohol involved, a rape occurred involving a bunch of local louts in their early twenties who subsequently went their own ways in life.

The only vigilantes were the rogue cop DEATH SQUAD in MAGNUM FORCE & they are lead by Norwegian-American David Soul, who outside playing Hutch or one of Stephen King’s vampire hunters ALWAYS played Nazis in TV films (David Solberg grew up in Berlin).

Soul eventually approaches Harry & Harry says “I’m afraid you’ve misjudged me”.

Scorpio was not particularly weak. He did not immediately confess even after Harry stabbed, then shot, then tortured him. He managed to shoot Chico. He was shot a second time by Harry & still charged him. Scorpio is fairly relentless & fearless.

Also, Scorpio aka Charles Davis was able to function in society as the stadium manager, a job of some responsibility. He was clearly a lowlife who haunted cheap strip clubs, but a functional one nonetheless.

As far as racial stereotypes go in Dirty Harry films, they aren’t unrealistic. Bobby Maxwell was an Irish-American (“Paddy Dude” is how Moustapha refers to him) who went to Vietnam & developed psychological problems but liked combat, became a pimp who might have killed a prostitute & finally recruits some other sex workers & hippie fallout into his terrorist organization.

In SUDDEN IMPACT, the Irish cop covers over the rape his son was involved in though he himself regarded Mick & his son’s other friends as scum. Their milieu is fairly realistic too-the pier bars & amusement park boardwalks & the endless chain of beer & weed in a town there is little else to do but fish.

The Italian-American mafia in DIRTY HARRY (Counterbalanced by Digorgio as Harry’s partner) are fairly accurate. They aren’t cuddly teddy bears like Tony Soprano or Bobby Bacala. They are hairy to the point of lycanthropic venal bloated despicable brutes.

The Mexican hoods in THE ENFORCER who hold up the liquor store are believable as are the Cholos in SUDDEN IMPACT that hassle Locke.

The odd thing is that one of the villains of SUDDEN IMPACT, Kevin Major Howard (Rafterman of FULL METAL JACKET) played Stomper in DEATH WISH 2.

The punks in the DEATH WISH series are far more exaggerated & ludicrous. To begin with, they are multi-racial & the lead villains were not only white but were played not by Americans but by Irish actors (Thomas F Duffy as Nirvana & Gavin O’Herlihy as Fraker).

  185. anon[298] • Disclaimer says:

The DIRTY HARRY depiction of Irish-Americans is fairly spot-on. Bobby & Wanda are tough, fearless, ruthless, totally out-of-control…but have managed to involve a local Catholic priest in their siege who eventually gives up their location on Alcatraz.

Similarly, Mick the Irish-American Alpha psycho’s small-town milieu of SUDDEN IMPACT was fairly accurate right down to Audie Neenan as the screeching redhead barfly. The wharf bars & piers where fights & rapes break out. The small-town Irish cop whose son got mixed up in a gang rape which he corruptly covered up.

Unless something changes numerous European countries will fracture into non-democratic Islamic states. Muslims will vote in anti-democratic politicians and Sharia law.

Eventually most European and American Whites will look back and realize what idiots they were to think that race and culture are not connected. The human people are a cross section of race, class, economy, location and history: 5 dimensions just like everything else in life. Specific references to Dulles “infiltrating” other government agencies with former and current CIA men loyal to the agency is quite a different matter than propagandizing and influencing public opinion via Mockingbird. Dulles understood the nature of bureaucracies and how to control them for the agency’s (and his) benefit by placing loyalists in key positions.

Last national election before Hitler was appointed chancellor by elected President Hindenburg was July 1932.

You are correct that the Nazi party votes were less than in previous elections and the various socialist and the Moscow led communist party made gains. But it wasn’t overwhelming, just standard loses and gains that happens in every election in every country.

Socialism doesn’t mean Moscow front communism either. The very large and important Principality if Hesse had subsidized housing and food since the 1700s. Iran has subsidized food today. Mexico had subsidized food most of the 20 th century. Germany had various government pensions since the mid 19th century. Plus free public schools in some pre unification countries. Free and sliding payment scale public hospitals and clinics are a firm of socialism too. Most countries in the world have that. So you can’t equate socialism with Moscow directed Comintern communism at all.

So you can’t equate voting for standard socialist parties with voting for Comintern communist parties at all.

Many Men of military age in WW2 would have been too young to vote in 1932. Many of the socialist parties of Germany and Europe were militantly against the Comintern communist parties. The brawls in 1920s Germany were as much socialists parties against Comintern communist as Hitler’s Nazis against the one Comintern communist party directed by Moscow.

In fact, Hitlers party, the National Socialists was one of the socialist parties on the ballot for the July 1932 and previous elections.

Whoever wrote your script is ignorant about Germany and socialism.

Many thanks indeed for the compliment, my friend. I’m sure you’re completely right about troof – he’s responded with another lame and pointless insult, which I won’t be replying to.

What you say about the movie you remember is very interesting – as I myself had exactly that same deeply sad, almost “broken”, sinking, depressed feeling for a very long time after watching Enemy at the Gates some years ago – and again every time since, whenever I caught a few minutes of it on a tv somewhere. It wasn’t just the blood-soaked machine-gun /blown apart / hideously maimed nature of the many “action” scenes which upset me, but more the grasp it gave me of the sheer scale of that slaughter – though I’d considered myself well-read and fairly knowledgeable particularly about the second war in it’s entirety. The key scene early on where the (brave, handsome, White) Jew sniper played by Jude Law picks off several German officers from the middle of a vast pile of the corpses of his comrades was almost too painful to watch – but of course there were tens of thousands of brave, self-sacrificing and loyal German soldiers who suffered and died in exactly the same way. I’ve always loved films – but as I get older I struggle more and more with the graphic, explicit blood-letting of high-budget popcorn-movies such as EATG – let alone the bitter taste of death, depression and general despair which follows afterwards – but now I know very well that emotional response is EXACTLY what the (((film-makers))) intended. Bad for us – good for them.

And I also understood a long time ago that (((Hollywood))) deeply enjoys putting the absolutely “un-watchable” right in front of everyone’s faces – and then getting stupid Goys to pay them for it ! “Professional” LA video pornography filth – now on a wholly different level and scale from the very tame, “permissive” girlie mags I saw in my youth – is another perfect example of the “gift” of moral corruption, degeneracy and wickedness which (((they))) produce and distribute 24/7 to support their round-the-clock nation-wrecking.

Kael’s review of DIRTY HARRY is the first time I read her, and it was revelatory. She not only delved into the political implications of the movie(something she detested) but acknowledged how effective it was as propaganda and entertainment. She could see value even in something she loathed. I was used to reading newspaper reviews, and the depth of her review was the first time I realized film criticism could be much more.

Agree with her or not, it is a thought-provoking piece, and she didn’t use the term ‘fascism’ lightly, like some of her peers.

Now, one may ask why Kael wasn’t much disturbed by BONNIE AND CLYDE, THE WILD BUNCH, and THE GODFATHER. Why was she more distressed by law & order propaganda than romanticization of outlaws and gangsters? Perhaps, she felt outlaw movies were more honest as movie fantasies. They activate our Id or dark side on the silver screen. In contrast, law & order movies serve up the same violent fantasy but packaged as moral rectitude, and the bad girl side of Kael just couldn’t groove to it.
(It’s like the Hayes Code imposed a new ending for Howard Hawks’ SCARFACE.) In her writing on SEVEN SAMURAI, she loved the action but didn’t care for the wisdom uttered by the elder samurai at the end.

If you moved Blacks into automatous zones those intards would have plenty of money for private schools. They would laugh at the idea that you are somehow sticking it to them.

All you would do is recreate Mogadishu/Haiti and Blacks would want back in the White areas. Egalitarian Whites would probably let them back in out of pity.

Blacks separatists live in a fantasy world. A world where Blacks would follow them into reservations entirely managed by Blacks.

Here in reality most Blacks don’t want to live in all Black neighborhoods. That is one of those harsh truths that few can admit.

To have Black reservations would require GDR type enforcement of borders. Then there is the question of what you would do with mulattoes. The talented tenth would gain nothing from a reservation. They are already highly sought after by corporate America. The last thing they want to is leave the White burbs and move to New Haiti. But they would give you a fist bump on Zoom or something.

So you would need a ruthless dictator to get any of this done. I guess you share the same fantasy as White nationalists.

Don’t know about exact dates, but there were several “leftist” movements in Rome. Female and slave emancipation for one thing, though of course to limited degrees. Christianity was certainly leftist. Manumission of slaves had similar arguments. That would not fly in Sparta or even Athens.

Jewish and Greek sects were rampant in the ancient world, and they are in many ways the fathers of our modern political systems.

Rome had slaves up until 476. Women were not allowed in politics. So not sure what you are talking about.

    Christianity was certainly leftist.

Christianity is certainly not leftist. It doesn’t call for the government to equalize the people through income redistribution and cultural denigration.

Christianity is egalitarian but it allows for natural differences among men. If you have feelings of bitterness or envy you are supposed to resolve those feelings through prayer. The left encourages the have nots to take from the haves and stokes discord among racial groups.

I said to a limited degree.

Several emperors began to grant more rights to slaves as the empire grew. Claudius announced that if a slave was abandoned by his master, he became free. Nero granted slaves the right to complain against their masters in a court. And under Antoninus Pius, a master who killed a slave without just cause could be tried for homicide.[65] Legal protection of slaves continued to grow as the empire expanded. It became common throughout the mid to late 2nd century AD to allow slaves to complain of cruel or unfair treatment by their owners.[66] Attitudes changed in part because of the influence among the educated elite of the Stoics, whose egalitarian views of humanity extended to slaves.

In the book “The Origins of Christianity”, Revilo Oliver has this to say:

The spread of Stoicism in the Graeco-Roman world is one of the most remarkable phenomena of history. Many have remarked on the paradox that a Semite, a Phoenician merchant in the export trade, who went to Athens on business and happened to attend lectures by one of the Cynic philosophers and who could not speak grammatically correct Greek, should have set himself up as a philosopher in his own right and, despite his alien features and tongue, attracted a large following of Greeks. And there is the greater paradox that a doctrine which inspired the subversive agitations and revolutionary outbreaks that Robert von Pöhlmann identified as ancient Communism should have become the philosophy of the most conservative Romans. The first paradox may be explained by the fact that when Zeno went to Athens in the second half of the fourth century B.C., Greece was in the midst of a prolonged economic crisis and culturally demoralized, and many of the citizens felt the morbid fascination with the exotic and alien that in our time gave prominence to “soulful” Russians and Hindu swamis. As for the second paradox, Zeno’s successors so modified his doctrine that Panaetius, a Greek from Rhodes, was able to transform it into a philosophy that was attractive to Roman minds.

Stoicism was founded in the last years of the fourth century B.C. by Zeno, a Semite (‘Phoenician’), who was a native of Citium on the eastern shore of the island of Cyprus. He had a very swarthy complexion and an ungainly body, squat, disproportionately obese in places, and flabby. Since Jews often took cover as ‘Phoenicians’ or ‘Syrians,’ it is not impossible that he was a Jew.

    On Christianity and Liberalism:

“LIBERALISM” IS A succedaneous religion that was devised late in the Eighteenth Century and it originally included a vague deism. Like the Christianity from which it sprang, it split into various sects and heresies, such as Jacobinism, Fourierism, Owenism, Fabian Socialism, Marxism, and the like. The doctrine of the “Liberal” cults is essentially Christianity divested of its belief in supernatural beings, but retaining its social superstitions, which were originally derived from, and necessarily depend on, the supposed wishes of a god.

Christianity has been dubbed as proto Marxism by many writers, and I tend to agree. The core values are very similar. Universalism, humanitarianism, denial of nature. Income redistribution is just a slogan. In practice it means that the guys on top will steal your money a little more overtly. That’s how it was under the Church, that’s how it is in Communism.

You can shoot police, stomp others & give away the location of the girl you raped & killed & be back on the street if Harry doesn’t mirandize you.

You can shoot six cops & blow up another one & continue to be a police officer.

You can drive a car through the front of a liquor store into a room full of hostages & still be a police officer.

You can shoot fleeing suspects in the back.

If three desperate black robbers in a diner have their sawed off shotguns pointed at you at point blank range all you have to say is “Me, Smith & Wesson” & they will stand there waiting for you to slowly withdraw your handgun from inside your sportscoat front pocket to shoot them.

Similarly, when a bunch of drunken small-town hooligan psychos & rapists who previously kicked your ass & threw you over a pier have shotguns they will stand & say “Holy Sh^t” when you walk towards them with your handgun at your side.

As long as you are Clint Eastwood’s girlfriend you walk into respectable businessman’s garages & shoot them in the head & balls & shoot harmless-though-disgusting women in the head in their own living rooms & nobody will care.

Seasoned old mafia with million dollar lawyers will die in fright when a disgraced detective who is barely remaining employed walks into their wedding & suggests that a call girl named them as a customer in her diary.

Alcatraz is usually the biggest tourism attraction in San Francisco unless terrorists want to use it to hold the mayor hostage.

You’ll throw away your badge in disgust at yourself if some completely psychotic rapist-killer-sniper charges you with a gun but after you kill a bunch of police officers you’ll smile & say “Good man has to know his limitations” & then refuse to shake the mayor’s hand after he falls to his knees in relief because you fired a rocket launcher at a terrorist who was holding him hostage.

If you’re a small-time punk who barely got off on a murder charge because of a technicality your first reaction will be to lob Molotov cocktails at your arresting officer.

If you’re on vacation in a small seaside resort town & you shoot two people dead within 24 hours of arriving the police chief will tell you to mind your own business in his town.

Hotel management won’t ask you to leave their premises if you shoot a mob hitman dead in the hallway of their hotel…a few days later said hotel management finds out a black policeman is dead with his throat slit in your room by alcoholic psychos.

Excuse me. But you are entirely incorrect. Not could Miss Locke act, whe was a talented producer and director. You might want to do ome homework there. She and Mr. Eastwoo made a host of successful films together. She teased some wnderful complexirty from the woman she played in Gauntlet as well as other chaaracters she played in films with Mr. Eastwood. I would eat a dozen hts if I could have her back again in person , she was a an undrrated actress who for her time endured some of the most physically demanding performances that would rival Glenn Close or zUma Thurman, for her time. Furthermore, I think one of the things that Mr. Eastwood appreciated about the older system despite hos issues with it, was the ability to form long lasting bonds with a actirs he could rely on.

Miss Locke’s real fault was no fault she was ambitious to her own accord and if you are not connected or indepoendently wealthy enough, Hollywood has its own class system hoola hoop system. I will forever regret my own uninformed attifudes concerning the Miss Lock’s talent.

    ——————————————–

As for much of the commentary concerning Mr. Eastwood’s white stoic machismo white male dominant disposition. In the film in question. Which sets te stage for the emtire genre’. There are criminals of all manner of shape, an sies. But there are are also noncriminals of all shapes and sizes and color. It’s easy to slide into the sterotype while missing that the Harry has a running relationship with a black physician. I want to be careful here because its a rather obtuse posiion to contend that whiteness as a monicer of all things superiority is not a ethos that permeates nearly all things “americana”. That’s our history and that is our lot to unravel, as much as possible, if possible. But acknowledging that also requires acknowledging something else — the mess isn’t made by blacks, but whites, criminal or not. And juxtaposed against that — skin color is Harry’s least concern. What he wants in all of his films is simple straigt forward justice. Bad guy does x good guys fixes it. I think that the film

“Magnum Force” makes the case in response to most of the comments here

“I am afraid you boys have misjudged me.”

“Sudden Impact” also makes that case regarding “justice” being the central issues for Harry and how does one manage justice against a frame of society that is full of unfairness.

Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, Unforgiven, Gran Torinno, Enforcer, Perfect World, Bird ——-

fairness, justice and the path taken by singke actors to walk it.

    ——————-

I would note, that the conceit of these films and films like it is that most of the time, we see the wrongs in full display and who the perpetratiors are , which creates the illusion that the conduct to address it is is justified. byt in real life, we don’t see the crimes committed by the actors in onvolved, hence the process, due process makes sense — even against the warped perspective that we think the police know and in many circumstances they don’t.

By the time SUDDEN IMPACT was released, Locke & Eastwood’s relationship was public unraveling.

She wrote a book about this called THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE VERY UGLY.

Locke was already an established actress before she met Eastwood-she’d done WILLARD, KNOCK KNOCK & got nominated for an academy award back in 1968.

Her argument, which was logical, was that Eastwood actually put a damper on her career.

By the time they did SUDDEN IMPACT, they were on a downward spiral.

Locke refused to even do press for SUDDEN IMPACT. Also one thing she said-which was logical-was that by the time SUDDEN IMPACT came out Stallone & Sho Kosugi & Van Demme were in the 80’s Action glut.

Seeing a lanky sagging 50 something man punch the camera was a little dull compared to Norris’s spinning roundhouse kicks.

Dirty Harry was popular in the 70’s because of the Nixonian post-Vietnam mood but by 1983 it was sort of dated.

Very germaine to the film reviewer’s thesis as well! I’m sure the episode recounted in Dave McGowan’s “”Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon” also played into the atmosphere the scriptwriters were living in. It’s a very dark film. The scriptwriters originally set the film in NYC, then Seattle before settling on San Francisco. The film says volumes about that era on many levels.

Yes, we disagree. First, let me clean up my oversight in neglecting to provide a source for the quotation about E. Howard Hunt’s CIA service. The bit I quoted came from the Wikipedia article on Hunt, and was attributed to Seymour Hersh from his December 31, 1974 article in the New York Times, “Hunt Tells of Early Work For a CIA Domestic Unit.”

In 1959 Hunt helped CIA Director Allen W. Dulles write The Craft of Intelligence. The following year Hunt established Brigade 2506, an Agency-sponsored group of Cuban exiles formed to attempt the military overthrow of the Cuban government headed by Fidel Castro. It carried out the abortive Bay of Pigs Invasion landings in Cuba on 17 April 1961. After that fiasco, Hunt was reassigned as Executive Assistant to Dulles.

After President John F. Kennedy fired Dulles in 1961 for the Bay of Pigs failure, Hunt served as the first Chief of Covert Action for the Domestic Operations Division (DODS) from 1962 to 1964.

Hunt told The New York Times in 1974 that he spent about four years working for DODS, beginning shortly after it was set up by the Kennedy administration in 1962, over the “strenuous opposition” of Richard Helms and Thomas H. Karamessines. He said that the division was assembled shortly after the Bay of Pigs operation, and that “many men connected with that failure were shunted into the new domestic unit.” He said that some of his projects from 1962 to 1966, which dealt largely with the subsidizing and manipulation of news and publishing organizations in the US, “did seem to violate the intent of the agency’s charter.”

There is a mountain of evidence attesting to the CIA’s illegal involvement in domestic affairs in the United States. You could start with MK-Ultra and LSD. See Frank Olson, for a tragic example, with subsequent stops at Timothy Leary, and Gloria Steinem, for someone a little more appealing – Steinem not Leary.

I haven’t read it myself but Hugh Wilford’s The Mighty Wurlitzer: How the CIA Played America might give you a better appreciation for what the CIA was doing, that it wasn’t legally entitled to be doing, starting of course with any involvement in domestic affairs.

In 1967 the magazine Ramparts ran an exposé revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency had been secretly funding and managing a wide range of citizen front groups intended to counter communist influence around the world. In addition to embarrassing prominent individuals caught up, wittingly or unwittingly, in the secret superpower struggle for hearts and minds, the revelations of 1967 were one of the worst operational disasters in the history of American intelligence and presaged a series of public scandals from which the CIA’s reputation has arguably never recovered.

CIA official Frank Wisner called the operation his “mighty Wurlitzer,” on which he could play any propaganda tune.

I would just note in passing my opinion that the United States of America does need intelligence agencies, but secrecy corrupts just like power does, so it’s an ongoing dilemma.

Finally, if the CIA had stuck to its charter, we wouldn’t be having this conversation, and Harry Truman wouldn’t have had to write his op-ed piece in the Saturday Evening Post one month after JFK was killed, an article Allen Dulles tried strenuously and repeatedly to get Clean Harry to retract.

But four days later, in a formal memo for Lawrence Houston, the CIA’s general counsel, Dulles fabricated a retraction. He claimed that Truman told him the Washington Post article was “all wrong,” and that Truman “seemed quite astounded at it.”

Eastwood was famous for nepotism & turning on friends or trashing the careers of those he did not like.

For example, he was the one who found Andy Robinson in a New York play, liked him & cast him as Scorpio.

On the other hand, he fired directors left & right.

Many actresses were his mistresses like Samantha Doane in THE ENFORCER (Wanda) & THE GAUNTLET (The biker moll) & he tossed her aside when he began his affair with Locke but he fathered like four kids while he was with Locke.

He was also, reportedly, a wife batterer. He is known to have abused his first wife, and also beat up Locke.

But in my opinion, SUDDEN IMPACT was just a gritty seventies film in the wrong decade. By 1983, audiences wanted to see Chuck Norris kill Russians invading Florida or Sho Kosugi fight ninjas atop penthouses.

But I am not convinced his films including the dirty harry series was a testament to the lone white male holding back the tides of black waywardness.

It would be interesting to hear from the black actors he has worked with during his long career. I think its been an eror to place our mavearicks in the role of “white protector” of the great white way — despite its convenient effect.

However, as he proved in the last installment – about a rape victim taking the ‘law’ into her own hands – Dirty Harry is about justice, that is, people getting what they deserve, innocent or guilty. At the end of the movie, when he has his ‘man’ (a woman), he says it’s over and she goes free.

No, that was Dirty Harry rejiggered for the 80s audience, much like Stallone altered the tone of Rocky movies in the 80s. SUDDEN IMPACT was a huge hit.
It was followed by TIGHTROPE, which also did pretty well and scored with the critics, even those who’d previously disliked Eastwood. Eastwood played a shady cop in it. A good guy but with a sexual kink.

The lower moron white class is an obsolete rustbelt “worker” who cant do shyte.

Public spending greatly exceeds all imaginary “taxes” and most taxpayers in history are usually the main beneficiary of their own money, so to speak. The black criminals commit typical black crimes. They rob banks or fast food joints. Okay, it is pretty stupid that a bunch of black thieves are going to stand there with their fingers on their shotguns while Clint slowly reaches into his suit pocket while he says “Me, Smith & Wesson”.

Bobby & Wanda the “paddies” of THE ENFORCER are pretty typical Irish-American criminals. They’re cunning, tough, totally ruthless, fearless, desperate & out-of-control who honed their fighting abilities in the US military like Bobby. They are not that different than Whitey Bulger if he became a radical terrorist.

Charles Davis aka Scorpio, is a typical high-functioning white criminal. He’s intelligent. He holds a fairly responsible job as a stadium manager. He’s resourceful. He’s manipulative & knows how to exploit the legal system.

The Italian mobsters are not glamorized. They’re venal bloated despicable lycanthropic men who all look like Ron Jeremy. These are not the cuddly guys of the Sopranos. They’re typical mafia.

Harry seemed to have the worst problem with Italians and vice versa.

Maybe because unlike the dumb hick rapists of SUDDEN IMPACT or the wild hippie terrorists of THE ENFORCER the Italians were formidable well-organized and well-connected adversaries.

They seem to get it the worst. David Soul & Hal Holbrook’s rogue cop squad mostly kill mafia. They kill one black pimp but mostly they kill Italians in MAGNUM FORCE.

Harry interrupts black criminals in the commission of the crime.

  258. They seem to get it the worst. David Soul & Hal Holbrook’s rogue cop squad mostly kill mafia. They kill one black pimp but mostly they kill Italians in MAGNUM FORCE.

Harry interrupts black criminals in the commission of the crime.

But this is really why the movie is unrealistic.

If a squad of cops went rogue in SF then a lot of Black criminals would turn up dead.

Dirty Harry is also unrealistic. Blacks rarely form squads to rob banks. The vast majority of armed robberies by Blacks are against other Black criminals or small businesses.

I like the Dirty Harry series but no one has the balls to make a statistically accurate movie about crime in SF.

But I will at least give them credit for not creating an entirely fictional crime group like 80’s White punk gangs as seen in Deathwish. They took a music trend and turned it into a criminal subgroup for the sake of political correctness. I still don’t see why so many conservatives fawn over that movie. Sure it is an amusing revenge flick but also baked with liberal race denial.

This is not true at all.

Crime varies wildly by race and that includes types of crimes.

Just drive around a Black area and look at how much public property is broken or graffitied.

White criminals are more likely to engage in fraud and complex theft schemes rather than crimes of opportunity or pointless destruction. Of course liberals and egalitarians tell us this is all due to external factors. Yes I’m sure all these patterns are just merely a matter of coincidence and racism. Whitey’s mean system somehow forces Black criminals to spray paint buildings or damage public property.

He says “we started with criminals people know so that our actions would be understood.” That is why they shot the on mafioso after his trial at the beginning of the film.

Also, be realistic about black crime. It’s a civil disruption on a street level, but there has never been a black criminal who ran a city like Whitey Bulger ran Boston. They don’t have that sort of political reach or capacity for bribery or jury tampering.

Black gangs don’t bother much with bank robberies anymore. It’s simply crack and more crack. And pimping. Maybe some arms sales. Some holdups of small businesses, like you said. The diner robbery in SUDDEN would have been typical, though less so now because small businesses are gone.

Agree for the most part except the diner part.

SF didn’t have the armed robbery crime wave of the 70s like NYC.

The only thing notable about Clint Eastwood-his greatest talent-was always noticing an up-and-comer, usually because at plays or comedy shows.

For example, he found Andy Robinson (Scorpio) at an New York play.

In the last & most terrible of the DIRTY HARRY sequels he discovered Jim Carrey.

He also was good at marketing TV actors who were up-and-coming. David Soul & Robert Urich as the vigilante cops, for example. Tyne Daly patented her Cagney & Lacy persona in THE ENFORCER.

But he also demolished a few careers. For example, Paul Drake was good as Mick in SUDDEN IMPACT but Eastwood personally disliked him & as a result his career went on to nothing but appearing as the armed robber in BEVERLY HILLS COP who tries to rob the strip club.

Eastwood also came to dislike Locke & this was pretty apparent in SUDDEN IMPACT-they apparently fell out at the time of production in 1983-as Locke & Eastwood have no chemistry which they previously did in ANY WHICH WAY or WALES or GAUNTLET.

Also, in retrospect it is surprising how unfit and unagile both Eastwood & Reynolds seemed at the height of their careers in the late 70’s & early 80’s.

The consequence of personal relationships and business dealings is always rife with issues. Hollywood is no exception. The record is that Hollywood is the place where such dynamics will be played out in public , sadly, exacerbating an amicable result. I think the issue has more to do with Hollywood than Mr. Eastwood. Consider the tenure of Director Millius. Sveral years a studio’s emails got hacked — Hollywood is a very very tough place to operate. Navigating the rumor mill, Executive and performancers insecurities, egos, power centers, jealousies, competition, the class and caste system and billions in avaialable cash, it’s a safe bet that Mr. Eastwood would be the least of her issues. And that is even more dicey for anyone who might bring suit. Hollywood is just rife landmines . . .

Timothy Dalton felt that way too, and according to industry lore he beat up Sam J Jones (a skinny Dolph Lundgen lookalike who could not even walk convincingly and later attempted to commit suicide with a drug overdose) at a London pub during the filming of FLASH GORDON.

Eastwood was good at finding up and coming talent. Let’s give him his due. He found David Soul, he found Jim Carrey, he found Tyne Daly of CAGNEY & LACY.

At any rate, the problem with the last DIRTY HARRY film starring Liam Neeson was that by 1988 audiences wanted to see Van Demme or Seagal, not some 58 year old man snarling and punching the camera.

What was odd about both Eastwood and Burt Reynolds-who to his credit turned down Bond saying he was too short and an American actor would be crap in the role-was that as action heroes they were slow and clumsy. Both of them looked unfit, at least by their late forties and early fifties when they were at the peak of their box office attraction.

  293. At any rate, the problem with the last DIRTY HARRY film starring Liam Neeson was that by 1988 audiences wanted to see Van Demme or Seagal, not some 58 year old man snarling and punching the camera.

But ABOVE THE LAW, which came out in 1988, made less money than DEAD POOL. But it turned a profit cuz it cost less to make.

You’re right that tastes changed in the 80s where action movies were concerned. Just like 70s audience found old John Wayne movies too slow and safe, the 80s audience wanted even faster pacing and more explosions. And so, Schwarzenegger and Stallone came to dominate 80s action cinema. And of course, there were Indiana Jones movies.

Still, Eastwood held his own. HEARTBREAK RIDGE, made in the style of old Hollywood war movies, was a big hit. So were UNFORGIVEN and IN THE LINE OF FIRE.

Then, in the 90s and 2000’s, a new kind of action cinema took off.

Hipster ironic action of Tarantino, and the tech-savvy mindgames in BOURNE and MATRIX. These lighter-footed movies beat out the muscle-head action spectacles of Stallone and Schwarnegger. It was Hermes over Ares.

But in the end, spandex and CGI beat all with comic book movies.

You are shining star example. You are example of people who get an education, and after that they become far more ignorant than before education.
You are being hurt by education.

Successful action films lance a raw nerve. Even if they are incredibly stupid. Like Chuck Norris’s INVASION USA. At the height of the Cold War 80’s, the film was immensely popular. By 1992, it was gathering dust on video store shelves. Norris, always a good businessman, realized this and moved to television with WALKER.

But the final two HARRY films simply were not topical. DIRTY HARRY was filmed in 1970 in the seedy aftermath of the sixties when Zodiac was loose. THE ENFORCER during Patty Hearst.

But SUDDEN IMPACT was a Sandra Locke vehicle. There was no topical subject. It could have been a sequel to EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE.

And the fourth DIRTY HARRY was even less relevant.

ABOVE THE LAW at least pointed to CIA involvement in cocaine trafficking from Central America.

  296. One has to ask: How much more ruin is left in this country, before it all falls apart?

    Well I suppose one does.

But seeing as the country is visibly already falling apart, one wonders why?

  297. @Dr. Charles Fhandrich

Sure, though that’s not my point. My point is it wasn’t an easy war for the Red Army or the Soviet People, because the Wehrmacht was a very effective military.

One of the popular revisionist Vietnam movies of the 80s was UNCOMMON VALOR.

It came out 2 yrs before RAMBO. It’s been pretty much forgotten.

    You think like a bot

I don’t care about the substance of the specific dialog, it’s mindless nattering to me, but your lambasting the grammar over the word “as” is a psychic fright — and a tweezering degree of analysis typical of the conservative (er, Republican) mind when it seeks to backpedal its nativist bigoted tendencies.

It’s completely understood in context that there is the conjunction “as” preceding the subordinate clause “glamorized as those organized” and it is omitted for pure economy of speech trusting that anyone who understands in english will place absent word as they read the sentence.

The only reason someone would pick this nit over is to score points among autistics. Thee nit you are picking puts the other post author in the position of arguing against his own position, which is an unlikely reading, so the dip-shittery on display in the guise of grammatical acumen is astonishing.

Nvm stupid white conservative refrains like if yer gonna come an live in ‘murrica it’s only right you speak english! … ZOINK! Whaa?. Government is evil, send me to government for life! Wait, what is wrecking America? Oh yeah, Republicans

That fact that I even have to spend time screeding this shows what a heavy mental tax intellectually gifted whites place on any forum in which they bob around for ideological apples and biting each others nuts. I hope the time invested shows I care, and I wish the best for you and hope that you get the fruit cup you so ardently desire.

    * * *

As to themes in Dirty Harry, my opinion is this original review is not only tedious, intellectually vacuous and self-serving to white nativist ideologues, it’s also just wrong about the production’s slant.

In my view, the movie is a vivid and knowing critique of Hollywood and the excesses of TV culture.

It’s not about the white man facing the pollution of infiltration by some dreaded ethnic other, or even of the perils of multi-culturalism. It’s about how the white man’s unconscious and unmanaged desires are ruinous have led to a fantazmatical society which is contrary to his idea of himself. Harry is a vigilante guardian of the cesspool of white industrial excess, which has culminated on the West Coast and can now only spill into the sea. This is rendered clearly in the skylines of SF, it’s neon sex culture, which is a visual proxy for color TV, and the majesty of the high rise from which Scorpio is picking off young, free, beautiful, ditzy hedonistic white girls in their private pools. Harry’s reconnaissance walkabout to Scorpio’s perch takes him across the literal steaming shit of the skyscraper’s rooftop sewage treatment plant. In heaven, even the shit is in the clouds. TV antennas are shown poking up from the city and the vistas revere a might of technology that opened and conquered the West. Harry’s adrift in this new world, his so-called life has been destroyed by white excess. If he has a wife or was in love, it’s incidental. He lives in a cosmopolis and secretly dreams of an Oriental fantasy taking him away from his own laments (as we find in Ted Post’s sequel). That’s Eastwood himself. He reprises this motif a couple years later in his version of a Bond caper, Thr Eiger Sanction, which puts him in a sexy bind with women of color including “Jemima Brown” a speechless American Indian called of George, and an albino northern european puffter and his gay henchmen. Eastwood has a great dry sense of humor.

Latent homoerotica is a common theme for this genre. In his Mad Max series, Australian George Miller invoked the white man’s fall from his own grace and his succumbing to his industrial desires far beyond what Americans Don Siegel and Ted Post evoked in Harry. But to repeat, Siegel’s Harry is first and foremost a critique of media, not an examination of racial identity. It deals in pure tropes to catalog 70s neo-urban America through the appeal of a lost white man, whose character is intended to be a foil for societal excess.

In Siegal’s Harry, technology is played way up through an astonishing urban landscape, vast networks of buildings, roads, cars, helicopters, and guns. The crazy SF terrain is a post-industrialized urban American expressing the height of its powers and poised at the cusp of a new way of living that is drowning the refugees of the Grapes of Wrath in the Pacific Ocean. There’s not a civil management problem, police are plentiful and well equipped, fully in control. The mayor is a king. The malaise afflicting Harry is white society itself. Harry’s pathos seeps into many scenes, but most notable is when he and his new partner go on the night hunt for Scorpio with the brown suitcase and Harry ends up on foot in an alley, then clamors onto garbage cans to get a look into a window of an apartment he suspects might house Scorpio, then becomes distracted as a peeping Tom. Actual ‘men’ in the neighborhood surprise him and beat him up for his offense, to wit Harry honorably takes his licks and stands down. He knows there’s no explanation in context and that the men who found him belong to the sector. Silence is the only option. This situation will be reprised when Scorpio pays to have himself flagellated (the plot is ludicrous at that point, but this is not a study of urban violence). Scorpio and Harry are the warring sides of the same societal personality.

What’s smart about this movie’s reckoning is that it always defers to a principle of hip entertainment and setting a tone of the day. Harry vs. Scorpio truly enjoy their plight, and they struggle to continue their enjoyment beyond all other concerns. It’s in the pursuit of enjoyment that Dirty Harry can be found to be conservative, because the troubled white man has made his bed and enjoys lying in it, but he feels himself a sinner and he is not ready to adapt to and overcome his self-imposed distress as it would cancel too much life (joie de vivre). Scorpio is the closeted homo Republican focused first on pleasure and everything else will be sacrificed to the continuation of his illicit enjoyment.

Again, George Miller tendered a much more serious odyssey of white male alienation in his Max series.

There’s lots more to cover in Dirty Harry but none of it is about conventional white male cultural identity because that’s too boring for entertainment, and too vapid for philosophy. Unless you find the millennial precondition of incel and cuck to be regardable character traits. These traits are the situation of a generation whose parents had too much teevee and were born into Walmart, Applebees, Disney and vid games, inc. interwebz.

BTW Harry is not a bigot, he’s just acerbic. He doesn’t fear the ethnic other, and doesn’t take pleasure in depriving others. He’s a competent operator in a crazy, terrifying world, to which the character tries to bring a little cool. The director slips some sly fodder into the movir, such as Scorpio targeting the gay men on the park bench sharing ice-cream cones. My god. Harry is not a bender, but his alter-ego Scorpio sure is, and he hates himself for his own lust. Working together, Harry will clean the city of himself and roll with the game Asian chick downstairs on his way to night classes in Art History and climbing capers in Switzerland.

The film that really seemed to personify the height of seventies sleaze was THE ENFORCER with its Patty Hearst type terror groups

PATTY HEARST is one of Paul Schrader’s better movies. And it shows the white fetishization of the black revolution is nothing new. The whites in that movie want so desperately to be black. All the proto-woke craziness is all there.

Specifically the “white working class”, the lowest form of life on the planet.

It’s understandable that you harbor immense resentment against the people who LITERALLY BUILT THE MODERN WORLD. Join the club.

…But worst of all, unlike Blue State whites who are not only educated & better earning than their hick counterparts, these rural whites don’t want to pay for your out-of-wedlock teen kids or Affirmative Action programs & don’t give a rat’s ass about slavery or racism.

Where they butt heads with you is the subject of guns because you knock one another off with the second amendment like beer cans on a fence.

Also, unlike Blue State whites who will cower in their gay-friendly loft above their Kosher coffeeshop when BLM goes on a looting spree for the latest pair of basketball shoes, you are aware that Leatherface & his family are a tougher, more primitive strain who will turn a BLM rampage in their rural areas into a sequel to the HILLS HAVE EYES.

And of course they control the agricultural food supply & raw materials so they don’t have to give a rat’s ass when BLM set Rodeo Drive on fire.

Going to the moon was cool.

We may also recall from the docufictional drama The Right Stuff how the astronaut was a bragging-rights payload, and Joe Working Class White Pilot has to bargain in the court of public opinion to be called a “pilot” and given a window. The essential duty of the astronaut was to be-there in the semse of Chauncy Gardiner, to look after the machinery which supported himself, not play a critical role in any mission objective beyond his own seat.

And what did Joe Working Class White Astronaut find? Rocks. What he do? Shovel rocks! What were his concerns? Hazy, dry laments about touching the face of God and how, quite literally, everything of value was back on the Blue Marble.

From a pragmatic perspective, the trip to the moon was a pointless exercise of the white man’s bravado.

The brilliant white guys who plan, organize, and commissioned the machines have always treated pilot (soldier) as an A.I. bot, for the ultimate purpose of directing munitions with a requisite pattern of distribution to produce armageddon.

Full props to the humanity of the soldier who wants to be present at the tip of the spear. Too bad that the process of war so dehumanizes the same man for geopolitical gain. I doubt the crew of Apollo 1 had anyone like Elon Musk and Grimes in mind as the future of manned space exploration.

We might note that presence of man himself is so awkward and inappropriate to space as to be completely absurd. Musk’s idea of colonizing Mars is creation of an off-world swingers bar. He already sent his car ahead. I am unable to follow how he thinks life out there is going to evolve in a prosperous orderly fashion when every aspect of the environment is hostile to life, while he presides over so much mayhem here where we have everything going for us. Surely there’s some crazy big gap in thinking. Bezos is more clear in his ambitions: he wants to dump Joe Working Class White into orbiting cylinders to free up space down here so his vacations are more enjoyable. Such is the thinking and planning of noble (white) men.

Face it, sentient robots commissioned and applied for global conquest was what the despoiling of the moon was always about, as aptly treated by Stanley Kubrick, tripping on Arthur Clarke’s End of the Childhood of Prometheus. We see this in the iconic image of the astronaut on the lunar surface, his face a mirror of an barren horizon. His journey is empty, imbued only the significance of his supplication to his own annihilation.

I can’t help but see him as happy in his quest, his appeal to the cosmos. This nihilism is a very deeply situated organ of the white man. His despoiling of his world and therefore himself is intoxicating, a crazy hedge against a death he refuses to learn how to die.

Yeah, going to the was also super cool. But it’s unclear if it’s something to take pride in or the Devil’s work. It all comes down to the man behind the golden face plate. A few came home spiritually transformed and humbled emissaries of peace.

It’s telling that there was been no further development upon the back of Apollo Program. The thing was scrapped.

Today on Mt. Everest, yuppies trek by various landmarks which are the petrified remains of previous “explorers” who now lay as guideposts on the way up to bragging rights at the top of the world.

  306. Someone mentioned that by the time Dead pool arrived, audiences had moved on from thr “Harry” series.

But on looking at the grosses from 1988

    Dead Pool — 38 million

Above the Law — 19 million

    Blood Sport — 12 million

I won’t bother noting overall box or rankings

Director Eastwood spent years building a fan base in television.

Indeed Wayne turned down this film, but later decided that was a mistake, leading to McQ.
