Yes, it’s happening. It really is. And I’m not just thinking about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal and the support it’s getting from Democratic presidential candidates or the controversy it’s generating. I’m also thinking about Washington State Governor Jay Inslee’s entry into the 2020 presidential race on a platform that boils down to a climate-change crusade. I’m thinking about the way Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — not your usual definition of a radical thinker or activist — is now planning to make global warming a key issue in the 2020 elections. I’m thinking about the fact that some Democrats suddenly are convinced the subject will be a winner on the campaign trail. I’m thinking about the fact that a book on climate change, David Wallace-Wells’s The Uninhabitable Earth, has just hit the bestseller list. I’m thinking about the strike-for-the-future movement, all those Generation Z kids that TomDispatch regular Frida Berrigan writes about today who have started a wave of global protests about the increasingly degraded world they’re likely to inherit.

And I’m also thinking about the fact that every new study of climate change seems to offer worse news about the fate of the planet — greater potential temperature rises; more drought and famine; larger population displacements; faster-melting Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets leading to radically rising sea levels; more unexpected climate feedback loops that will only heighten the ravages of global warming; record levels of greenhouse gases still entering the atmosphere; and, most recently, the unexpected phenomena of heat waves not on land (yes, they’re coming, too, and they’re likely to be devastating) but in the planet’s oceans that could, among other things, significantly reduce fish populations and so humanity’s food supplies yet more.

In other words, don’t think of the recent rise in climate-change attentiveness and concern among Americans as a passing thing. It’s not for the simplest of reasons: climate change itself isn’t passing. Human-caused it may be, but it’s not faintly part of human history in terms of its potential time scale, and whatever effects we’re already feeling are essentially nothing compared to what’s likely to come. So in a country that, in 2016, elected history’s greatest crew of climate-change aiders and abettors, men who may one day be seen as the worst criminals in history, something’s finally starting to happen, even if just what it is still isn’t exactly clear. Under the circumstances, parents like Frida Berrigan have a tough job ahead. They’re going to have to explain to their children just how we adults have so royally screwed up this planet, the one that should have been their birthright. And that, as she makes clear today, is the necessary conversation from hell.

  1. Rational says:

The whole scam of “climate change” is a hoax on its face.

First, DEFINE “climate change”. Oh, they can’t. Just because the weather changes from place to place and from time to time doesn’t mean anything. There is no clear and unambiguous definition of “climate change”.

PROVE that whatever you defined above is caused by humans. The allegation that CO2, a gas a part of the food cycle, and only 0.1% of the atmosphere, is suddenly causing the air to become hot, is bogus. There is nothing inherent in CO2 to do that. In fact, its heat capacity is equal, or a bit less, than that of N2/O2. Also, hot air rises to the top, and the temp at 30,000 feet is below freezing, air currents are at 100 mph+, so extra heat, if any, would be lost to high alt convection currents.

Reproduce: Take 2 tanks containing normal air, with the second tank being 1% CO2, with thermometers, and put them in the same room with controlled temp. Come back after a few days and show the 2nd tank has a higher temp. Fact: Both tanks will have the exact same temp at equilibrium.

“CLIMATE CHANGE” (whatever that means) = HOAX, HOAX, HOAX.

“Yes, it’s happening. It really is.” Maybe this article is intended to be tongue-in-cheek. I think that must be the case.

Still wondering why these teasers enjoy the privilege of being highlighted as though they were columns in their own right.

  5. As Kevin Barrett says in a link from his excellent article Sorry, Ilhan, Jews HAVE Hypnotized the World,

“The secret of mind-control is simple–so simple that Rushkoff can sum it up in one sentence: ‘In whatever milieu coercion is practiced, the routine follows the same basic steps: Generate disorientation, induce regression, and then become the target’s transferred parent figure’”

This piece by Berrigan certainly generates disorientation and induces regression.

‘Greatest scam in history’: Greenpeace co-founder thrashes global warming ‘brainwashing’ campaign

Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore had harsh words for the modern environmental movement, calling global warming “the greatest scam in history” and denouncing the use of “fear and guilt” to push the message.

“Yes, it’s happening. It really is.”

You must be scared so you can obey, and PAY

Money goes to the same type of psychopaths

  8. Wally says:

Actually, the greatest scam in history is the fake & impossible ‘holocaust’ narrative.

To date, the climate change / global warmng scam is still a piker in comparison.

  9. Jim says:

Most business and financial analysts, most scientists, most critical thinkers and most mathematicians know that modeling and thus predicting a complex system is meaningless. Modeling requires simplification and in complex systems all factors involved are not known and their interactions non-linear. In a linear world where x=y or any other formula, if x is known, y is known. In a non-linear world if x is known, y is not known. Simple like that.

Of course if this were widely understood, government management of anything complex, such as the economy, the currency, the climate, health care or almost everything else would be known to be impossible.

  10. Swept Away!

Roger Ebert’s review suggests that Lina Wertmüller agrees with Whiskey:

It’s here that the movie begins to venture into philosophical and sexual mischief-making, because although Lina Wertmuller is a leftist, she is not, apparently, a feminist. She seems to be trying to tell us two things through the episodes on the island: (1) that once the corrupt facade of capitalism is stripped away, it’s the worker, with the sweat of his back, who deserves to reap the benefit of his own labor, and (2) that woman is an essentially masochistic and submissive creature who likes nothing better than being swept off her feet by a strong and lustful male.

Her birth name suggests she’s a traitor to her class:

Lina Wertmüller was born on August 14, 1928 in Rome, Lazio, Italy as Arcangela Felice Assunta Wertmüller von Elgg Spañol von Braueich.

I can’t remember if I saw the entire movie, or just the trailer, but I can’t unhear (or unread; it was subtitled) Mariangela Melato begging Giancarlo Giannini to “sodomize me!”
