A good comic book villain is more of a representative avatar than human depiction. None evinces this better than DC Comics' Joker. His original origin story (he falls into a vat of acid and is disfigured), provides for a madman's revenge angle, but that familiar human motivation has proven forgettable, at least in the movies....
