Humans have been digging wells for literally thousands of years, yet in 2023 there’s still communities that don’t have access to potable water? I have a relative who’s into science, big believer in Darwin’s theory of evolution in the animal kingdom. Yet onetime I brought up the fact that America basically sustains Africa through foreign aid and we should cut it off. They then replied that would mean millions would die if we did that. I then asked, well isn’t that Darwinism? They replied with something along the lines of we just can’t do that.

The problem we’re running into on our planet right now is we can’t advance as a whole because there’s so much deadweight holding us back. If Africans want to live like this then so be it, but not one single dollar should go to them. About 10 years ago, a suburban housewife friend of mine was asking friends on social media for donations/sponsors so she could go on a trip to Africa with some group of other soft headed dopes to dig wells. She was trying to raise $5-8k to go. I asked her what the money was going to be spent on, since they were staying in some village, eating local food, the flight was fairly cheap because they got a group rate, etc.

She said the money was going to be used to buy concrete, shovels, and other well digging materials once they got over there. I asked why the villagers couldn’t dig their own wells? Her response was because they don’t know how, they’re poor, they don’t have jobs, blah blah…I said:

“Why not just send them $2k worth of shovels & tools, they have time on their hands if they don’t have jobs, let them dig their own wells. How many wells have you or anyone in your group dug to make you qualified to go over there, it’s just going to be a bunch of people who don’t know shit about wells digging holes in the dirt. How have the villagers survived for hundreds of years without water, what have they been drinking?”

At that point she got really mad, because deep down she knew I was right. On the other hand, what a racket those organized do-gooder trips are, 10-20 people paying minimum $5k+ (some gave sizeable donations she told me) to go camp out and do manual labor in back water Africa for 10 days. Might be time to start a 501C and start a career change.

I am reminded of various private groups which have spontaneously risen up in crime plagued cities to help prevent crime. Nine times out of ten, the local police do anything to stop the groups from being effective. “Get rid of the crime?! What about our jobs? And our bribes!”

The artesian wells might last for a good while, but most wells in Africa have hand pumps to draw up the water. In a year or less, the pumps will break from lack of maintenance, and the wells will be useless. And the solar pumps will also, eventually break. No one will fix them. The women (or children) will once again walk three miles to get a jug of water from the local, sewage contaminated, drainage ditch. The African men will sit on their butts and do exactly what they did before the well was there. Nothing.

Part of me is outraged at the lack of African motivation — but then I remember that most of them are approximately as intelligent and insightful as your average seven year old child of European ancestry, only without the ethical grounding. Africans are, in general, not fully human, not the way other races (with the exception of Australian aboriginals) are. They have way too much Homo erectus and not enough sapiens, Neanderthal, or Denisovan. That does not make them intrinsically bad, no more than lack of intellect makes cows, bears, and wolves, intrinsically bad. There are some situations where low IQ is no issue. Speaking of Africa, recently took Amtrak from Florida to Alexandria VA for a visit. If anyone opts to use Amtrak for an 18 hour ride, get a roomette. After a stop in Columbia SC, the train turned into the Negro Express, complete with a negro on the PA system pretending to be an airline pilot. I posted my experiences previously.

There are many corporate efforts to “reach out” to the community and provide “help” for those who are elderly, “disadvantaged” and “poor”. Although such programs are well-meaning, they don’t help the people who truly need it.

One such effort in Detroit was a program called “Paint the Town”. This effort involved local businesses that would “volunteer” their employees to provide help to the elderly and those who were deemed to be “disadvantaged”.

My company “volunteered” a number of us employees to contribute to this effort. Initially, I looked forward into helping out those who were “disadvantaged”, making things easier for them in their community. The gamut of services provided varied from picking up trash and landscaping to painting houses and doing minor repairs.

My “crew” was assigned to paint a house. There was a family consisting of a man and woman (not elderly) and three (grown) men (children), approximately 14 to 18 years of age.

These “children” watched us work, painting the house while smoking “blunts” (marijuana) and drinking their “fortys” (alcohol), while laughing at us white “fools”. The “man of the house” was OK with the color while the woman of the house constantly complained about the color.
The question that I never vocalized, but was in the back of my mind was “why don’t these people clean up and paint their own house”?

I, for one would be ashamed if “outsiders” came into my neighborhood to do things that I should be doing for myself.

After my stint on “Paint the Town”, I told my employer that I would NEVER participate in such a project ever again.

In his youth, my old man used to dowse & drill for water. A very early memory is of being on a site with him, and being encouraged to try the stick, but it did nothing for me.

Some twenty years later, when I got married and bought my first house, my parents came to visit. He begged a wire coat hanger, bent it into a fork and went prowling around the house looking for water. When he came into the toilet, it pointed down. “There’s water down there”, he said.

I laughed. “Yes, I can see it”.

“No, not that. There’s an underground stream there”.

“I’ll take your word for it”, I said. I wasn’t about to sink a borehole in my bog.

“Here, you try it” he said, handing me his “stick”. Humouring him, I gave it a try, and, of course – nothing.

“Wait,” he said. Then he stood behind me, reached forward around me, and gently touched my wrists with his fingers.

I tried, believe me, but I could not hold that coat hanger. It pointed down.

Was there water down there? Beats me. But it was one more data point in my philosophical development.

When looked at on that spectrum, the liberals and the Christian Right are squarely aligned on the same side.

“LIBERALISM” IS A succedaneous religion that was devised late in the Eighteenth Century and it originally included a vague deism. Like the Christianity from which it sprang, it split into various sects and heresies, such as Jacobinism, Fourierism, Owenism, Fabian Socialism, Marxism, and the like. The doctrine of the “Liberal” cults is essentially Christianity divested of its belief in supernatural beings, but retaining its social superstitions, which were originally derived from, and necessarily depend on, the supposed wishes of a god. This “Liberalism,” the residue of Christianity, is, despite the fervor with which its votaries hold their faith, merely a logical absurdity, a series of deductions from a premise that has been denied.

Pious Protestants would naturally have preferred a cozy little earth, such as their god described in their holy book, but they saw the advantage of appealing to our racial respect for observed reality to enlist support, while simultaneously stigmatizing their rivals as ignorant obscurantists and ridiculous ranters.

The votaries of “Liberalism” would have much preferred to have the various human species specially created to form one race endowed with the fictitious qualities dear to “Liberal” fancy, but the cultists saw the advantage of endorsing the findings of geology and biology, including the evolution of species, in their polemics against orthodox Christianity to show the absurdity of the Jewish version of the Sumerian creation-myth. The hypocrisy of the professed devotion to scientific knowledge was made unmistakable when the “Liberals” began their frantic and often hysterical efforts to suppress scientific knowledge about genetics and the obviously innate differences between the different human species and between the individuals of any given species. At present, the “Liberals” are limited to shrieking and spitting when they are confronted with inconvenient facts, but no one who has heard them in action can have failed to notice how exasperated they are by the limitations that have thus far prevented them from burning wicked biologists and other rational men at the stake.”

Dowsing is a skill which I possess. The “mechanics” of dowsing are not understood, but it is real. It must have something to do with “grounding” and “energy”…

I tried it once via the bent coat hanger route. At one point, the thing seemed to have a mind of its own. Suggestion? Psychological response? It certainly didn’t seem like it at the time.

Professor Oliver taught at the U of I. A brilliant man with farsighted vision. His essays were inciteful. They should be required reading for every student.
