Well, the video of the incident has been released, and the suspect was not shot in the back: he was facing and charging toward a police officer who had his gun out and aimed at him.
From the video, the unfair but common diagnosis of “suicide by cop” springs to mind.

In my opinion, with six uniformed police officers within arm’s length, the claim that there was any likelihood of injury by a single person holding a screwdriver seems to me to be risible; real police reform would involve the officer who fired his weapon immediately losing his job (and the rest, who just stood there instead of surrounding and immobilizing the suspect should be severely reprimanded, as well).

And if Whites did riot over killings like this, they’d get the book thrown at them.

Maybe it’s time to riot anyway.  We have to reverse this, and it won’t be done by being nice to our persecutors.

Why ‘unfair’? Suicide by cop is a real thing…also called ‘goin out in a blaze of glory’.

So six on one guarantees that none of the six will be injured? Only thing that can be said about it would be that the suspect would likely eventually be overpowered, and taken into custody, but even that isn’t 100%. It also doesn’t guarantee that none of the six will be injured or killed.

One cannot be ‘immobilized’ without physical contact (unless tazed, which may or may not be appropriate…situationally dependent), and I don’t believe that police officers should be required to engage in physical contact with anyone who is armed…that is why they have guns.

In MY opinion, anyone attacking anyone with a screwdriver deserves to be put down.

I have had similar experiences with these folks, as they were bussed into my school around 1969 or 68. I attended Clarkston high school, in Clarkston Georgia, it was a great place to grow up. The DeKalb county school system at that time, each grade was divided up into three academic levels. Our school had a main level and basement, that is where the lower level academic students went to class for the most part. However, in homeroom the administration put these Newly arrived folks randomly into homerooms..During the first week of homeroom, a female reached under her dress pulled out a hair, And then proceeded to wave at around. That was my first exposure to these wonderful human beings. I am now 67 and that has been my experience with them in throughout my business life.

FENWICK ISLAND, De. (WJZ) — Delaware State Police said two Maryland men were arrested and charged Friday after they shot into a house in Fenwick Island, Delaware. Police also found a car on fire outside the house.

33-year-old Andre J. Blakeney, of Waldorf and 27-year-old Finis A. Miles of Clinton are charged with four counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and other related charges.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s office has also charged the two with second-degree arson.

Police said the men offered four women a ride home from Seacrets, a bar in Ocean City. The women reportedly became uncomfortable on the way home, and asked to be dropped off at an area before their address.

After leaving the car, the women went to another location before going to their house, because they thought they might be followed. When they eventually went to the house, the women reportedly saw one of the men walking up to the front door, and heard loud banging.

A Fenwick Island Police Officer reported to the scene around 2:40 a.m. to the house on West Atlantic Street, but the men had already left. Outside the house was a Jeep on fire. Police said the officer and the victims extinguished the fire, and then noticed bullet holes on the house and at least six shell casings.

Ocean City Police found the men that night and took them into custody. None of the women involved were injured, police said.

I am going to be in Portland for a few days next week. But most of my time will be spent along the coast and then down to Crater Lake NP.

They were planning to move to northern FL in about a year. We suggested the northeastern coast, particularly around St. Augustine. Their timetable may be accelerated. That’s a good region because you can still buy reasonably close to the ocean which moderates temperature, it is cooler, and it’s much easier to evacuate if there is a hurricane.

I have a similar story when I lived in south Florida in the 1980s.
