While ignoring a cornucopia of crises in his two-plus years as Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg has found a supposed crisis that he will address, and it sounds a lot like his previously trotted-out theory that bridges are a tool of racism.
Speaking with Al Sharpton on MSNBC, Buttigieg declared “we’ve got a crisis when it comes to roadway fatalities in America” before making his usual pivot to frame the problem as one of race.
“We lose about 40,000 people every year,” Buttigieg told Sharpton, adding roadway fatalities are “a level that’s comparable to gun violence” for emphasis. “And we see a lot of racial disparities,” Buttigieg continued.
Specifically, according to Buttigieg, “black and brown Americans, tribal citizens, and rural residents” are “much more likely to lose their lives — whether it’s in a car or a pedestrian being hit by a car.”
Buttigieg argued that the racial disparity is “related to discrimination” and “even the ways roads are designed and built” such that minorities don’t have “access to a safe street design that’s got crosswalks and good lighting.”
“We’ve got to act,” Buttigieg said, despite him not having such urgency to take action to address the broken supply chain, formula shortage, or toxic train derailments — just a few crises Buttigieg ignored or went MIA during.
What’s more, Buttigieg should have thought about where his argument would lead before making his proclamation about racist roads. Because if, as Buttigieg claimed, roads were designed to be more deadly for minorities, who is to blame for building those roads?
Racist roads… it must be the Ghost of Hitler protecting white drivers from experiencing the same levels of fatalities as black and brown people on the US Highway System…

First off, PK, that poster made me laugh out loud. Secondly, on our first warm day of spring last week, on our beltway around the city I noticed three super-speeders: 1) BMW tinted windows going roughly 120mph I’d say (speed limit is 55) weaving in and out of traffic like an F1 race, could just make out his dreadlocks – black guy 2.) 1 minute later and crappy Honda going about 90-100mph with a black woman driver and a black passenger 3.) merging back on to beltway, car behind me next to a semi merges 3 lanes of traffic over before the merge lane even starts, goes about 90mph, then weaves all the way back to the right lane only to get off at the next exit… car full of black teenagers. Oh, and all 3 of these cars had no license plate.
How many excuses can be made for these people! If they go 100mph and hit a tree and kill themselves that’s fine! But what about when they rear-end a family of four? The utter hate and contempt I have for these people and their enablers like Pete Buttplug is off the charts! I’d love to see Pete play frogger on the beltway on a Friday night, and see how long he’d last before one of his beloved pets took him out!

I know I’m in Mexico when a five lane expressway jams for no reason with only a wreck on the shoulder or far outer lane. Or that with an exit-only lane they’ll run up it to “merge” where there’s neither room nor safety in so doing. Will speed up if being passed. These actions cause problems up to and including serious accidents. And can be predicted based solely on population demographics.
I know I’m on a road of the stupid when well ahead of us is one of their jam-ups and all the other vehicles are hurrying to get up there soonest.

Colin Flaherty covered one of these incidents a few years back. Cleveland or Cincinnati I believe, or one of their suburbs. A White guy was on his lunch break taking a shortcut through hood side streets and a little groid ran out into the side of his car. Since it was summer, just about the whole block of useless eaters was outside. The kid wasn’t even hurt but someone, the father I believe, still shot the guy anyway. IIRC he was killed.
Blacks love to walk in the middle of the street, even if there are 2 perfectly empty sidewalks on either side of them. I have seen it all over S. FL for the last 20 years, and in any other black area I have driven thru around the country.
It was Cincinnati if I remember correctly, and the kid wasn’t even badly injured. I always kept that story in the back of my head while I was working & driving in the hood in Miami, where I would see 6-12 year old kids run out from between parked cars at 11pm+ on a school night, while their parents sat around drinking and smoking weed/heroin/crack on porches and alleyways.

Blacks fail at a high rate doing anything requiring emotional control. They are not taught emotional control by their parents.
The brain has development windows. They open in a certain age range and close in others. If people do not learn emotional self control by a certain age, it will never be learned. This is much more real than babble about the age at which frontal lobe growth is completed. The proof? If an abandoned child survives, but does not have social interaction to learn speech by age 7 or 8, he may learn to speak, but not well enough to ever be easily understood. Think advanced mathematics can be taught from scratch to a 40 year old?
My point is what I was told by a highway patrol officer over a few beers long ago. Driving is no more than 25% physical ability, and 75% emotional ability. Black people are seldom raised to control their emotions.

I see orcs all the time driving newer high end vehicles with large dents, hanging bumpers, missing side mirrors, fenders that look like they side swiped something, plastic bags covering broken windows, etc. That doesn’t include the ones driving absolute beaters that haven’t had an oil change since Obama’s first term.
Then there are all the hoodrats I see driving brand new $60k+ Hemi Chargers & Challengers, and Durangos.
I have lived in New Zealand for nine years, now, after leaving South Africa, and the sight of Babuntus has been blessedly rare; but the last one I saw, over a year ago, was doing exactly that. And “blasting” crap from his cell phone. What a blessing that the fashion of those “ghetto blasters” is over.

Yesterday as I was driving, as I rounded the bend, off in the distance I saw a Town & Country minivan that looked like it had been on the wrong side of the road, driving back into the proper lane a bit too close to an oncoming Amazon truck. Then, at the next traffic light, it made a left turn with no signal, and I realized what had happened. The driver most likely tried to make a U-turn, but on a somewhat narrow 2-lane road, that turned into more like a 3- or 4-point turn, and when I had come up on it, I was witnessing the last part of that little maneuver.
My first thought was, “Guess the Race.” Out where I’m at these days (still too close to PG County though!), groids are still enough of a rarity that when you see a driver do something stupid, it’s not always a given that it’s one of them.
But then, about a mile later, and on a sharp, blind turn that had an intersection, this van overshot the turn, then just stopped. Threw it into reverse. I was coming up on him, and had no idea how far he’d back up, so I laid into the horn. And then, he just stopped, and sat there a moment, before making that turn. And, when he made that turn, I could see the driver. Yep, a groid!
Now, we’ve all gotten lost before, missed our turns, stuff like that. But who decides to just suddenly stop and make a U-turn, at an inconvenient/dangerous place? And then, missing another turn, simply stop and throw it into reverse?! Stuff like this, is probably why they get into more accidents and are more likely to be injured/killed in a crash. Most drivers would have the future-time orientation to find a safe place to turn around and go back, rather than simply stop and make a U-turn right then and there. Or worse, back up.
And oddly, I was actually thinking about this particular thread, when I came upon this groid yesterday! Speak of the Devil and He shall be summoned!

Yep. I see high end vehicles ALL the time in the hood I work in and nearby towns. Vehicles that I rarely see in my middle class White neighborhood. My neighbors had another home in CT, close to Yale, that they used for the summer. Their high end SUV was stolen, police found it 3 days later, complete with condoms, liquor bottles, underwear, food wrappers, etc. The house was sold, they haven’t returned.

The area of New Haven where Yale is located is a dump, and has lots of crime, especially since it is along the 95 corridor. There’s nice outskirts of the city, but from my time living in CT, most of the crime/black dysfunction stories come from Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford, Waterbury, and Torrington. Outside of those areas, CT is a pretty nice state, but now the crime is starting to spread to the good areas.
I used to attend a lot of drag races at local strips and only once did I see a negro racing his car, a fairly hot ‘55 Chevy (I’m pretty sure he hadn’t done the mods).
I remember he wore a brimmed, kind of fedora-like hat, and in a brief conversation with him, he stated that the car ran pretty good, but that he’d had to use one tire that was smaller than the others; I’m assuming from lack of funds.
In the only race I saw him run, the car bounced along apparently from the imbalance caused by the small tire, his brimmed hat flapping wildly as the vehicle careened down the strip with him frantically banging the gears.
He lost.
I was off by one state!
