Gun violence, drug involvement and criminality… all problems plaguing the black community in St. Petersburg. And all these problems a black pastor attributes to white racism/systemic racism because black people in 21st century America can’t be expected to have moral agency. [Pastor Attributes St. Petersburg Violence To Racism, Coronavirus Pandemic As Officials Urge Calm, WJCT.com, December 4, 2020]:

There’s no clear pattern to several shootings in St. Petersburg in the last month, including Wednesday night’s killing by police of a man wanted in connection to a murder.

But one thing is clear: the economic downturn caused by the pandemic is hitting minorities hard.

The Rev. Kenny Irby is pastor of the Historic Bethel AME Church and is St. Petersburg’s Community Intervention Director, focusing on the city’s young African American residents. The violence, he says, may be provoked by systemic racism experienced by the Black community.

“It creates levels of stress that clinical psychologists and sociologists would definitely tell you, yes, there is exponential stress in our homes, and people are much more on edge,” Irby said. “Now, going back to the actual cases of the murders that have happened recently, I’m not so sure you can make that connection, though.

“The unrest we are experiencing in the southern segment of St. Petersburg — though long in the making — structural racism greatly impacts marginalized people in disproportionate ways,” Irby continued. “Gun violence, drug involvement and criminality are the the effects of hopelessness and poverty.”

In November, there were seven shooting incidents in St. Petersburg that left three people dead and injured several others.

On Wednesday afternoon, a suspect in a child abuse case was fatally shot, one police officer suffered a gunshot wound, and another was injured after the man fired several rounds at detectives outside a St. Petersburg convenience store.

That suspect, 20-year-old Dominique Harris, also was wanted for questioning in connection with a September homicide.

Irby says he sees a disconnect between these tragedies and real consequences.

“Here’s the reality: the young people have to understand that there’s no reset button,” he said. “They see this kind of firearm usage and violence and they press restart and the game starts over. But in real life, there’s no restart.”

St. Petersburg officials asked for calm during a news conference Thursday after the latest in a series of gun violence in the city.

St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway said the department is going to continue to build bridges with the city’s black community.

“We ask for everyone to continue to remain calm, wait for the facts to come up as involved in this shooting, so that the state attorney’s office and the sheriff’s office task force can conclude their criminal investigation and the St. Pete Police Department can do the review of policy in regards to the shooting,” Hollloway said.

While St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman praised “the officers’ bravery” during the news conference, he said he was “saddened by the loss of a man’s life.”

ORDER IT NOW

“On days like (Wednesday), it doesn’t matter what we’ve accomplished, how safe St. Pete is, how improved the relationship is between the police department and our community, or how much we’ve done to create opportunities for young people,” Kriseman said. “Nobody wants to hear about progress when one person is in the hospital and another is in the morgue.”

City council member Lisa Wheeler-Bowman has called for a Saturday rally to highlight the economic and social troubles plaguing the Midtown area.

The rally will be held at noon to highlight the economic and social troubles plaguing the Midtown area. “Enough is Enough” will be held near the latest shooting scene, at the corner of 34th Street South and 18th Avenue South.

There are no bridges to build. If every problem black individuals collectively create for their community can be attributed to white people/systemic racism/structural inequality/implicit bias/white privilege, then we will forever negate moral agency for Africans in America.

  2. Is it necessary for police to “build bridges” to White “communities”? Of course not, even the blackest black pastor would say. Why not? If only the typical black pastor was asked “WHY do black ‘communities’ not respect law enforcement?”

  3. Is is Whitey’s fault that 75% of Black children are born out of wedlock?

    Is is Whitey’s fault...?

    It kinda is.

We pay for them so we are essentially funding their poor behavior.
  4. Finally, a slogan I can support. “Enough is Enough” should be the war cry of decent white citizens, pushback is needed now, more than ever.

  5. “Nobody wants to hear about progress when one person is in the hospital and another is in the morgue.” LOL because the word progress has no meaning for primitive peoples such as blacks. What the hell do blacks anywhere in the world know about progress. Your whole race has to move to where the progress is because you never created it,Whites do .Whites created progress and now you blacks have ended it.

  6. Fairly certain that blacks have a high murder rate with or without racism.

  7. If there was less racism and more hiring of blacks then I think there would be less violence in black communities.

Well yeah, of course it would. If those blacks get hired out of the community, it takes some of the violence out of said community. Of course, it only transplants it into whatever community the job is in.

    .

Again, responding to anonymous comments is not my style, but stupid is stupid.

    If you’re not fooling, you’re a fool.

Plus, it’s disingenuous to call the existence of blacks in cities ‘communities’.

Real ‘communities’ don’t kill each other in great big batches.

    .

Very interesting. Instead, what if more prisons were constructed and filled to the rafters? What if the unnecessary blacks were transported overseas to backward nations willing to accept them for a fee? What if sterilization was a pre requisite for extended periods of welfare payments?

Then I think there would be less violence in black communities.
  8. Once again if whites are so evil and racist why don’t you blacks leave us alone and stay away. Stay in “the community” and let the “revrund” be the leader.
You are not welcome anywhere where civilized people reside.

  9. The violence, he says, may be provoked by systemic racism experienced by the Black community.

Who trained orcs to parrot nonsense terms like ‘systemic racism?’ From shitlib to rabbi to red china there are enough suspects weaponizing orcs to create a new Clue game.

  10. The negro community has been singing the same song for 60yrs. It ain’t beein’ our peeples fault. We beez held down by da whiteman. The news media and politicians bite every time and swallow the story hook, line and sinker. Same song sung by different generations complaining about the problems they cause.

  11. The bigger issue here is…..

The growing number of Black Racists (Anti-White/Anti-Asian/Anti-etc…) will buy into this obviously loony tune narrative. Then start blaming Vendors and Manufacturers to avoid accepting community/Cultural responsibility .

    FBI CRIME TABLE 6 SHOWS
    https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-6.xls
Black or African American Victims = 2,925
Black or African American Shooters = 2,600 of which 2,430 were Male Black or African American Or a 88.8% chance the murder was Black On Black.

You can check Obama years and pretty much see the same.
    2015

Black or African American 2,664 victims / 2,380 shooters = 89.3% Black on Black murders.

But the likelihood of a White shooting a Black or African American is only about 8.69%
Extrapolated Fact: Black or African American is 10x’s safer around a White person than another Black or African American.

Now toss in Black or African Americans make up roughly 14% of the population. But continue to account for percentages ranging from 37 to 41% of all murders in the USA.
Figures that range from 2x+ to almost 3x+ of population percentages.

I would say just given the Official Documented Crime/Murder statistics, the Black Community needs to quit blaming others and start addressing a serious internal Community/ Cultural issue.

  12. Ok even if every human being were blind…..Whites would still be R A C I S T ! According to negro pastors and Marxist media. This B. S. will never stop till either we segregate forever or repatriate the entire American negro community back to Wakanda. a.k.a. Liberia Where they belong anyway.

  13. Whites are making a Herculean effort to gentrify downtown St Pete’s. The sad reality is that criminal blacks ruin what would otherwise be a nice place. If there were no black population, the area would be paradise on the Gulf of Mexico.

St Pete’s is a bit like modern Cape Town, South Africa. Beautiful, but relatively dangerous for whites if you stray away from protection.

  15. I know like most of you I didn’t see this coming. On the one hand you have perhaps the greatest treasure the world has ever known: The African American Community whose peaceful ways and kindnesses have been spoken of for generations. On the other hand, the random, out of the blue eruptions of violence that have once again plagued their beautiful, decent neighborhoods robbing them of their young men just entering their prime. It reminds me of Europe where so many of the best Europeans were taken by 2 World Wars leaving Europe’s future in doubt.

I have no words, no solutions. I am dumbfounded. How can this happen to such fine people? I personally would if I could afford it move into an African American neighborhood to enjoy the finely manicured lawns and spacious artistic court yards but alas I just can’t earn that kind of money. Oh and I have to admit the rising property values that go hand in hand with being there. To see them suffer is to be robbed of their vibrancy, their laughter, their playfulness. We are all suffering their loss.

I dearly hope and pray that a solution can be found soon before we lose any more.

  21. Another black “leader” uses Liberation Theology (same as Fr Flager and Rev Wright) to allow black leftists to escape blame for violence, poor planning, faulty decisions, and general ineptitude born of low intelligence. It’s a whine a 4 year old could love. EVERYTHING is someone else’s fault.

I can only laugh for so long. Eventually race fatigue sets in and people no longer want to hear it. 55 years of racist, government programs favoring blacks only because of their skin color and still they must be on custodial care by other races. Enough is enough. Blacks need to stop blaming other races and start thanking them for supporting so much black stupidity.

People say to military personnel, “Thank you for your service.” Black people should say to other races, “Thanks for your financial support.” Instead they whine for reparations. The whiners were NEVER slaves, and today’s white taxpayers NEVER had slaves.

Obviously black “leaders” are all incompetent and greedy. Even their ministers tell the terminally stupid what they want to hear to increase the profits (church donations). Without white people to blame and leech off for support, where would these immature morons be?

  28. If the Reverend Irby truly believes that black violence (even against other blacks) “may be provoked by systemic racism experienced by the black community,” to the point that blacks are effectively — and presumptively — denuded of what Mr. Kersey calls “moral agency,” then perhaps it’s time to treat blacks the way we treat other classes of individuals whom we presume also lack moral agency or the ability to exercise it. We don’t let children vote, or felons, or even the most intelligent border collie. Maybe we should add single mothers (not widows, but those who have never married) with four or more children, and whose sole support is state assistance. Maybe we should add the fathers of those children.

How about it, Reverend? In response to your inevitable chant of “no justice, no peace,” I say, “no agency, no franchise.” Your people’s struggles for the ballot are well-documented; virtually everything they’ve done since then suggests we gave the vote to (with a small minority of exceptions) millions of overgrown children.

Tell your congregants, and others in your “community,” that the close election results (coupled with the reality that many who voted “for” Biden were merely voting against four more years of Trump) suggest that most white people aren’t buying the “systemic racism” nonsense you’re peddling. It’s time for blacks to grow up and take responsibility for their actions, good and bad.

Otherwise, you’re effectively children, and the next time Republicans control the White House and Congress — which may be a lot sooner than you think, if you keep pressuring the incoming administration for “reparations” of one kind or another — don’t be surprised if the GOP writes you off as a bunch of spoiled brats whose votes aren’t worth chasing. That is, if they don’t support voter I.D. laws that will (i) limit or prohibit mail-in voting, and (ii) make it harder for your dearly departed Uncle Vernon to “remain politically active.”

You don’t know it but you are now living in the good times. With less whites working less jobs, the blacks are going to have to learn how to carry their own weight. Which clearly they are not capable of doing. Things will not improve.
I think for whites in the US, their only sanctuary will be to lock themselves away in monoculture enclaves.
Or the other alternative would be to drop to the lowest denominator, and act as one with the black.

If the Reverend Irby truly believes that black violence (even against other blacks) "may be provoked by systemic racism experienced by the black community," to the point that blacks are effectively -- and presumptively -- denuded of what Mr. Kersey calls "moral agency," then perhaps it's time to treat blacks the way we treat other classes of individuals whom we presume also lack moral agency or the ability to exercise it. We don't let children vote, or felons, or even the most intelligent border collie. Maybe we should add single mothers (not widows, but those who have never married) with four or more children, and whose sole support is state assistance. Maybe we should add the fathers of those children.

How about it, Reverend? In response to your inevitable chant of "no justice, no peace," I say, "no agency, no franchise." Your people's struggles for the ballot are well-documented; virtually everything they've done since then suggests we gave the vote to (with a small minority of exceptions) millions of overgrown children.

Tell your congregants, and others in your "community," that the close election results (coupled with the reality that many who voted "for" Biden were merely voting against four more years of Trump) suggest that most white people aren't buying the "systemic racism" nonsense you're peddling. It's time for blacks to grow up and take responsibility for their actions, good and bad.

Otherwise, you're effectively children, and the next time Republicans control the White House and Congress -- which may be a lot sooner than you think, if you keep pressuring the incoming administration for "reparations" of one kind or another -- don't be surprised if the GOP writes you off as a bunch of spoiled brats whose votes aren't worth chasing. That is, if they don't support voter I.D. laws that will (i) limit or prohibit mail-in voting, and (ii) make it harder for your dearly departed Uncle Vernon to "remain politically active."

You might want blacks to worship whites…

Simple gratitude has been due for a long, long time, instead of the resentment, jealousy, entitlement, and lawless behavior that is returned for all of the benefits they have received in this country.

From a 2014 report: The War on Poverty: 50 years of failure | The Heritage Foundation: This year marks the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson's launch of the War on Poverty. In January 1964, Johnson declared "unconditional war on poverty in America." Since then, the taxpayers have spent $22 trillion on Johnson's war. Adjusted for inflation, that's three times the cost of all military wars since the American Revolution.

...solutions that are realistic and work.

Those who believe affirmative action is a reasonable, realistic solution, have either not been in the competitive world long enough to have seen the results of 55 years of such colossal foolishness, or desires to be on the receiving end of this ruinous program.

Many “realistic” solutions have been mentioned here. Unfortunately, it is naive people who have been purposefully conditioned to believe the races can co-exist, along with those who benefit from promoting the egalitarian message, that prevents them from being carried out.
The races cannot co-exist. They have not. They do not, now. And they never will. Not peacefully.

Another black "leader" uses Liberation Theology (same as Fr Flager and Rev Wright) to allow black leftists to escape blame for violence, poor planning, faulty decisions, and general ineptitude born of low intelligence. It's a whine a 4 year old could love. EVERYTHING is someone else's fault.

People say to military personnel, "Thank you for your service." Black people should say to other races, "Thanks for your financial support." Instead they whine for reparations. The whiners were NEVER slaves, and today's white taxpayers NEVER had slaves.

Obviously black "leaders" are all incompetent and greedy. Even their ministers tell the terminally stupid what they want to hear to increase the profits (church donations). Without white people to blame and leech off for support, where would these immature morons be?
