Gun crime in New York in 2017 was almost exclusively committed by non-whites. The city is roughly 33 percent white, but only two percent of criminal shooting suspects were white: 98% of suspects were non-white. The source of this extraordinary data comes from the 2017 NYPD Use of Force Report (p. 57).
From the Use of Force Report (p. 25):
The race of subjects involved in the 23 ID‐AC incidents correlates to the races of both suspects and victims in the 789 criminal shootings in New York City in 2017. Among the 498 known criminal shooting suspects in New York City in 2017, approximately 75% were Black, 22% Hispanic, 2% White, and 1% Asian. Among the 936 criminal shooting victims in 2017, approximately 73% were Black, 22% Hispanic, 2% White, and 3% Asian.
Until we can have an honest discussion about the correlation to gun crime and race in America, you must never, ever concede any ground to those who would restrict the 2nd Amendment. Not one inch.
