An anonymous witness who spoke to a local ABC affiliate said the suspect who allegedly struck a biker before stabbing him to death in Southern California last Wednesday muttered about “White privilege” during the incident.
The neighbor, who declined to be interviewed on camera, said she and her family heard what sounded like a gunshot before the attack against emergency room physician Michael Mammone, 58, and then heard the suspect issue the racial slur, according to ABC7.
Mammone was killed by a motorist in an attack in the coastal city of Dana Point while he was on an afternoon bicycle ride last week, according to authorities. The suspect, who also allegedly stabbed Mammone, was identified as 39-year-old Vanroy Evan Smith after being detained by bystanders and arrested on suspicion of murder.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment by time of publication, but a spokesperson for the department told ABC7 that they had not been told of the racial slur allegation against Smith.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Woodruff told the outlet that “as of right now, [there is] no known relationship” between Mammone and Smith and “no known motive.”
Providence Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, where Mammone had worked since 2011, said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital that it was “stunned by this devastating tragedy.”
“The entire Mission Hospital family is grieving over the loss of an incredible physician and friend,” the hospital said. “We will honor Dr. Mammone’s dedication to our community and passion for medicine by continuing to provide exceptional care.”
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer also issued a statement following the incident. “An innocent man is dead because he took a bike ride to enjoy a beautiful California day along the beach, and he was hit with a car and stabbed to death by someone he apparently never met,” Spitzer said.
“The murder of a complete stranger in broad daylight for what appears to be absolutely no reason is the stuff of nightmares. This unspeakable act of violence will forever haunt those who were forced to witness it, and it will forever haunt all of those who loved Dr. Mammone,” Spitzer added.
Dana Point is a beautiful coastal city right on the Pacific Ocean, and it’s only two percent black and nearly 82 percent white. And yet a white doctor was just murdered by a black murdered, who while killing this white male in broad daylight was allegedly yelling about his “white privilege.”
It’s 2023… we live in a country completely devoid of white privilege and one powered by black privilege.

This would not be pleasant. Our government is currently in the process of self-destruction. This, combined with the possibility of pissing off Russia and China to the extent they take economic or military action against the US, would make a revolution more practical. No city that has a population of Orcs can ever be considered safe. The degree of danger rises or falls according to their percentage of the population. As for this poor guy, he didn’t stand a chance. I could see a jury forgiving Smith for distracted driving, and mistakenly hitting a guy on a bike, but no way they let him slide for stabbing the guy after getting out of his car. I used to go to Laguna Beach with a friend in summers. I went to nearby Dana Point too and stayed at a motel there for a week. The whole Orange County coastline is, or was one of the nicest and most beautiful places in America, maybe the world. I think it’s still majority white, but maybe with a higher number of Latin Americans in certain areas. I thought it was great, still in 2010, but I don’t want to live in a shithole country. Unfortunately, it’s getting harder to find a country that is not a shithole unless you want to move to certain parts of Asia.

Per every report I’ve seen, it was a credit card, not an EBT card (link) — they are not the same, and I doubt you can use EBT cards in restaurants (?).

After looking into this, EBT is a method for transferring (electronically) and accessing (via a card) benefits — there are two types of benefits:
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) — this is food stamps — if you are employed but don’t earn much, you may be eligible for food stamps — SNAP benefits are delivered via EBT, but you cannot use a SNAP EBT card at a restaurant (nor many other places).
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) — this is welfare (cash assistance) — you can use an EBT card to access TANF benefits at a wider variety of places, including restaurants; you can even get cash at an ATM (of course after that you can spend the cash however you want) — as I understand it, TANF is administered by states, but the money comes from the federal government — each state may have slightly different rules about how TANF benefits can be used.
So it’s possible Burger King accepts TANF EBT cards, but you could not use a SNAP EBT card at BK.
It’s also possible this guy was tracked via his use of a TANF EBT card at a restaurant — but I have not seen a media story saying that — all the stories I’ve seen say it was a credit card (a waitress saw the foto of a person of interest, thought she recognized the guy as someone who’d eaten at the restaurant where she worked, and called the police).
