In many states, DA’s will prosecute you if you shoot someone for mere property crime. You have to have a reasonable expectation of serious harm or death, and you may even have a legal obligation to retreat. Bullshit? Or course. Know your local & state laws!

I deal with these types of heathens all the time (guess the job) and have one piece of advice. If you get involved during their crimes, no matter how trivial the crime, you better expect a full physical attack. Hands, feet, and all weapons will be in play for them. Every one of them had a story about beating someone up and taking their money (so they probably had 50 more they didn’t share), they all robbed stores (over the counter, loot the cash register), shop lifting items from department stores and punching who ever tried to stop them running out the door, pimping out their junkie girlfriends and robbing johns, the list is endless…the point is that they did all that to get a fix, and they all didn’t care what they had to do to anyone in their way of getting it. Well off people who can afford hard drugs like that don’t understand the damage these broke addicts cause and what they are capable of. Celebrities like Whitney Houston or Charlie Sheen are probably every drug dealers dream customers.

“Drag the body into the house” is tampering with evidence, and that’s a felony good for some years of prison time all by itself, plus it could be amped up to “compounding a felony”.

In the real current year, Musterman should have dialed 911 on his cell phone and stayed on the line with dispatch as he went outside to confront alleged buglars / thieves. Dispatch would tell him not to go outside, of course. But dispatch records all phone calls, too, and that record can be used as evidence in court.

Once out there he should have confronted the goblins with clear, short commands, from a position of cover, like behind something that would stop a bullet – a pillar, a post, a planter, whatever. “Stop! Stay where you are! Don’t move!” while video recording them if possible. Even better to be armed and order them to the ground.
