Warning! Stereotype confirmation incoming. [St. Petersburg boxing match where shooting occurred was meant to address gun violence: One person died and another four were injured at the event on Saturday, Tampa Bay Times, November 1, 2021]:

The Neighborhood Boxing League began in March with a mission to end gun violence. But a shooting at one of its events Saturday has its members distraught.

Pastor Elvis Piggott, an adviser to the league, called the shooting a slap in the face.

A group of young Black men in Tampa who have grown tired of the gun violence within their community created the Neighborhood Boxing League. The idea is to showcase a different form of conflict resolution in a controlled and refereed environment.

“They really felt destroyed, these guys and this movement,” Piggott said. “They felt hopeless and helpless.”

At 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Police responded to the Skyway Plaza, 1079 62nd Ave. S, for a shooting, where a “temporary outdoor boxing ring” had been set up in a back parking lot, according to a news release from St. Petersburg police.

Multiple unknown people began shooting after the “unpermitted boxing match” grew heated, according to a police report. Arguments escalated over possible gambling and cheating, the report said. A spokesperson from St. Petersburg police said on Monday that officers were still investigating if a permit was necessary to box on the property.

Trevon Montrell Barton, 21, was shot during the incident. He died of his injuries at a local hospital, police said.

Four others were injured, and one of them is in critical condition, according to a police report.

The boxing match was between Tampa fighters and St. Petersburg fighters, Piggott said.

The league supports “Guns Down, Gloves Up,” a boxing movement that has taken root across the country as an alternative to gun violence.

The Tampa league grew quickly. Hundreds of people gathered for the fights, Piggott said.

“We’re basically letting it be known from the millennial generation to those under them that this is unacceptable,” Piggott said. “We’re not going to shoot up our neighborhood and we have to do better with that.”

St. Petersburg police have arrested one man, Robert Lee Cooley, 21, of Tampa, in connection with the incident. He’s charged with carrying a concealed firearm and discharge of a firearm in public. It wasn’t immediately clear if bullets from Cooley’s gun were the ones that killed and injured the victims, the arrest report states.

Cooley was released from the Pinellas County jail on \$5,150 bail, records show.

Two security guards who were at the event detained Cooley. Piggott says four security guards were at the event to maintain a safe environment.

Piggott says the shooting occurred after the boxing had finished.

Despite the violence, the league is planning more matches in the future, Piggott said, though the league also is looking into increasing security.

“The fight is very clear,” Piggott said. “If we can stop one individual from doing life in prison or one ending up dead, then (we have) done something.”

Just to confirm: an event created to keep black youth from shooting one another by instead participating in boxing matches had a mass shooting where one person died and four other people were shot.

By a black individual.

Again, gun control shouldn’t be about disarming law-abiding white gun owners, but being honest about who is committing the vast majority (disproportionate) fatal/nonfatal gun violence in every city in America.

Even an boxing match set up to deter black youth from shooting one another ends with a black individual opening fire on other black people.

As stated, stereotype confirmation incoming…

  5. In fairness, it seems that the boxing match in question was more of an underground fight, e.g. Filo Biddo. Had the fight been sanctioned by Gloves Not Guns, WBA, Don King or whatever, presumably the bout would have been held at an indoor ring, without all the mayhem.

Everyone should know that any multiple negroidal participant event is a potential (actually likely) shooting gallery. These moronic and impulsive creatures simply cannot help themselves. And the negroid grifters that set up these “don’t nobody shoot nobody” events are as idiotic as the rest, except for cashing in from Whitey. One can only dream of what this place would be like without their presence.

  8. More likely is the gambling disagreements surrounding the event being the instigation, not skin color. Organizers would be well advised to take steps to prohibit all such gambling activity, unless the real motive for the event is gambling profit.

Stereotype confirmation forthcoming: this shooting will result in a candlelight vigil being held to honor these fallen kangz during which 7 attendees will get caps buzzted in dare azzzez. OT. There was a group of teens driving around robbing people here in the city. They pulled into a gas station to fill up. Two of the teens are seen on camera getting out of the car and arguing. What happens next? One teen pulls out his gat and proceeds to shoot the other teen. The shooter calmly gets back into the stolen car as Two other occupants hop out and load the wounded teen into the same car. They then drive away. Talk about an awkward car ride. Only thing missing was yakitey sax playing over the security cam footage.

YET ANOTHER mass shooting by a Black

This is on the heels of 10 shot at a Halloween party in Texarkana

Which happened after the mass shooting at a high school football game in Mobile Alabama.

Which happened after the mass shooting at that high school in the DFW area.

I wonder how many I’m not aware of in that tile span

  11. I’m just reading this and laughing out loud. What a F’n joke. Historically, if 3 or more of the porch sitting variety are at the same place there is usually going to be an outbreak of some sort of violence. Fist fight leads to a gun fight which leads to a revenge shooting which leads to blaming racism and YT.

  22. South St. Pete is St. Petersburg’s North Philly.
Philly cops used to refer to that afflicted city’s Black Ghetto (huge) as “The Jungle”.
In South St. Pete there is, for real, an area named “The Jungle”.

  23. A favorite technique of mine by the Soviet-American News journalists is calling the perpetrators by the name of the city or state their from. Example – a group of 20 blacks gets into a huge fight at a restaurant, the headline will read: “A group of Texans start brawl at Popeyes Chicken”. In my area, many of the blacks are from Chicago, so instead of stating race, it will say “2 Chicago women arrested in burglary attempt”.

I can’t tell if the journalists think they’re clever in disguising who’s actually doing the crime, or just trying to shift blame in the public mindset to a group of people they dislike, such as the example of calling the black trouble makers Texans.

Off topic, but the report for WI schools just came out. It’s available online. It’s funny seeing the excuses given as to why scores were so poor during pandemic, however, when you start to filter it by race, you see just how dismally the blacks score, Whites faired pretty well. It’s so bad, they literally “redact” data in some instances when it comes to race. Even with gargantuan efforts by Whites to uplift the black kids, they still fail miserably. What more can honestly be done at this point, besides trying to bring White children down to their level.

  24. Boxing is a sport that not everyone needs to be doing. Ali and Frazer were two perfect examples of the yin and yang when it came to intelligence and control of emotions. I know for a fact that given the opportunity during their prime years of the rivalry Frazer would have murdered Ali without remorse. When you take the most violent, dumbest of the dumb, coupled with little to no impulse control and put them in a venue where beating the shit out of someone is the order of the day, I mean honestly what did these idiots think was bound to happen? When planning shit like this and it’s known that more than 5 young black males will be in attendance, metal detecting equipment have to be part of the program, end of story.

  25. TNB. Nothing new here. SOS

  26. Why is it always boxing? Never a chess club.

  28. I’m really disappointed and saddened. Only one out of 5 dayed? 20% is not acceptable. Instead of spending money on boxing take the money and the niggers to a shooting range for practice. The investment will payback ten fold.

  29. I guess “Guns Down, Gloves Up” and “The Neighborhood Boxing League” are the new Midnight Basketball. And whatever happened to Midnight Basketball, that was supposed to cure all the inner City youth problems. I seem to remember a a few cases of “gunfire erupting” at these events as well.

How much is the City of St. Pete paying Pastor Elvis Piggott to advise The Neighborhood Boxing League?

  30. Unclear of the concept — sponsoring a violent spectacle in order to discourage violence.

Critical Race Theory proves beyond any doubt Blacks are just as smart, hard-working, & compassionate as anyone else.

Imagine how many Blacks would show up for sponsored chess tournaments. Or neighborhood clean-ups.

Yes let’s blame everything else except the people involved.

The behavior is a product of the People: It’s not a separate entity, a weather pattern, or a manifestation of Muh Racisms!

There’s too many examples (worldwide) to disregard what is obvious

Half the reason this continues is this attitude you share that these behaviors are not exclusive to one group or another which is not the argument that’s made; it’s the overwhelming amount of it that takes place Within these groups Per Capita that’s the problem and how it’s ignored/covered up and the blame shifted elsewhere

    Stop with the logical fallacies

  33. @Rooster111

My theory is that most younger people get their news from social media/Twitter/Reddit/online sources. Most of the people watching local nightly news tend to be the older Jeopardy crowd like my grandparents who both passed away in their late 90s. They were old enough to associate Texans with white cowboys and oil men, and Chicagoans were Polish, Irish, or Italian. Not hoodrats from Houston or the west side of Chicago.

“Their” is the possessive of “they”.  There is no possession in this phrase.  What you mean is “they are”, which is abbreviated as “they’re”.

when you start to filter it by race, you see just how dismally the blacks score, Whites faired pretty well.

    It’s “fared”, not “faired”.

Republican public officials, candidates should all be made to take 3 boxing matches like they used to do in the USA military.
