One person is dead and five others are injured after gunshots were fired at Lake Merritt near the Juneteenth Festival in Oakland Saturday, police said.
Police say they received reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue at around 6:22 p.m. Officers say they located six victims, five males aged 16-27 and one female, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds.
One male victim, 22 was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other five victims are reported to be in stable condition.
OPD says another individual was also injured in the incident but was not shot.
Immediately after the shooting, officers saw two men running from the scene with firearms. OPD says both men have been arrested along with two firearms recovered.
Police officials estimated a crowd of approximately 1000 people in the area.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf released the following statement to ABC7 News:
“Tonight a joyous occasion at our Lake Merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence. Police in the area tended to victims, and apprehended two people with firearms near the scene. The investigation is ongoing and will determine if they are connected to the shooting. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims, and I want to thank our officers for a quick response.”

Crime Stoppers of Oakland and the Oakland Police Department are offering up to $35,000 for information leading to the arrest(s) in this case.

An EMS worker was shot at a Juneteenth event in Raleigh.
It happened just before 7 p.m. at Roberts Park, which is located on East Martin Street about a mile east of downtown Raleigh.
The EMS crew was at the event responding to a call about a person who had fallen down and needed assistance.
The EMS crew heard gunshots and took cover. One bullet hit the ambulance and the other hit one of the workers, according to Wake County Government’s Communications Office.
Both the person who had fallen down prior to the shooting and the EMS worker who was shot were taken to the hospital.
The EMS worker was treated at the hospital and released. His name has not been released.
The person responsible for the shooting has not been identified.Raleigh Police Department asked anyone with information about the shooting to call 919-834-HELP.
