I was just reading about the famous Detroit, Michigan born screenplay writer Stirling Silliphant, who wrote the script for the academy award winning 1967 movie In the Heat of the Night. If there ever was a ‘magic negro’, it was Sidney Poitier in this movie, as a Northern big city Black detective in a ‘racist’ Mississippi town, who solves a murder in spite of all the White bungling and ‘hateful’ locals he is surrounded by.

About a year and half later after this movie’s release, on Feb 12, 1969, Silliphant’s only White son, 18 year old Loren Silliphant, was murdered in Hollywood, California by a Negro in what appeared to be a home invasion. Chester Allen Johnson, a 23 year old Northern Negro from Jackson, Michigan, ‘burst into’ Loren’s apartment according to witnesses who were present, slapped Loren and pushed him up against a wall, and demanded heroin. When Loren, not surprisingly, said he didn’t have any, Johnson executed him with a single bullet to the chest.

A few days later Johnson would murder a White dentist, named Olson, in an Oakland carjacking.
Olson offered Johnson everything he had if he’d only spare him his life so he could raise his family. At the trial, Johnson’s 19 year old girlfriend testified and wept about these things, while Johnson simultaneously smiled and laughed in court about them.

Johnson was tried in California and given a death sentence, which was soon changed to life imprisonment, inexplicably, considering the crimes, with a chance for parole in ten years.
