Humiliating a conquered people… this is what Bolsheviks do.[Charlottesville’s Robert E. Lee statue will be melted down by city’s African American history museum, Washington Post, December 7, 2021]:

The statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that once provoked a deadly weekend of violence in Charlottesville will soon be melted down and turned into a new piece of public artwork, following a vote by city lawmakers early Tuesday morning.

Since taking it down over the summer, the city had been searching for a new owner for the 1,100-pound monument, which had served as the focal point of the 2017 Unite the Right rally. Six proposals were submitted by arts groups, historical societies or individuals, who offered to pay as much as \$100,000 for the Lee sculpture and a toppled monument of fellow general Stonewall Jackson.

But the Charlottesville City Council voted 4 to 0 to hand the bronze statue over to the only local bidder: the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, a Black-led museum whose “Swords Into Plowshares” idea would repurpose the metal entirely.

Andrea Douglas, the museum’s executive director, said in a video that the project aims “to create something that transforms what was once toxic in our public space into something beautiful and more reflective of our entire community’s social values.”

Artists will consult Charlottesville residents in the coming months, including in forums early next year, to determine what the public art might end up looking like. Douglas said she hopes that collaborative process can also provide a framework for other communities debating what to do with toppled Confederate monuments.

Virginia to dismantle pedestal where Robert E. Lee statue stood in Richmond

The movement to take down the Lee statue began in 2015 with a petition crafted by Zyahna Bryant, who was then a local high school student. City lawmakers responded by voting to remove the Lee statue in February 2017.

A group of residents sued only a few weeks later, sparking a prolonged fight in court over whether the city could topple such monuments. And others took their defense of the Confederate iconography to the streets. At the white-supremacist Unite the Right rally that summer, one man drove his car through a crowd of counterprotesters, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

Despite proposals to purchase the statue of Robert E. Lee made to the city of Charlottesville, one offering as much as \$100,000 for the monument, the city council selected the proposal by a African American heritage center to melt it down.

Ritualistic humiliation of a conquered people.

Just part of the Communist coup going on across America.

Robert E. Lee opposed Confederate monuments. His motivation in causing the Civil War (yes he created it as a years’-long conflict because the Civil War would have been over in very short order had accepted command of the Northern army, which it is known he was offered, Jefferson Davis was never told by Lee thet had he wanted it he would have been commander of the Union forces. Was Lee a ‘warrior for slavery’, or his home state right or wrong. The latter is supported by the excessive attention he gave to defending Virginian territory, but his emphasis on reconciliation after the war indicates he understood a Northern based US was destined to expand west and become a continental economy and then superpower, So how could he have ever thought the South might win? In my opinion there was cognitive dissonance about his motivation, but what this was going on with Lee was a man exhibiting the very not merely human but animal characteristic of joy functioning in a difficult-to learn accomplishment. and just doing it for its own sake. What Karl Bühler called Funktionslust. Robert E. Lee wanted to cut a dash as a great general and the way to do that was fighting against superior opponents. it was for glory, show, and his own personal aggrandizement in a Napoleon fantasy he was living out.

More lies from the despicable Washington Post.

The statue didn’t “provoke” anything. A lawful, peaceful gathering was set upon by rabid, political opponents, thanks to the connivence of the local politicians and police leaders. A member of that mob subsequently died, perhaps as a result of being hit by a car, or possible as a result of being morbidly obese and otherwise unhealthy in a very intense situation.

Does the death of one rioter, along with a couple of cops who perished in a helicopter crash, in a political melee really merit this much attention when compared to the bloodshed unleashed by black youths every weekend in Chicago? Unable to psychologically process the violent nature and propensity to crime of so many black Americans, liberals have deluded themselves into believing that melting statues of Robert E. Lee will somehow change that nature.

‘With any luck they’ll “do it theyselves” to save a few bucks, screw it up terribly, and end up melted down with the statue.’

Small consolation. Another ten dead negroes is just a drop in the bucket. I doubt there’ll ever be another Robert E. Lee.

‘Don’t worry, son. You’ll get justice here.’ — Robert E. Lee, addressing a young and obviously terrified malefactor.

All indications, from both his contemporaries and from historians, are that Lee was an honorable man. There is nothing in his writings or actions that shows him to be the type of soldier who fought only for glory. I think he was more a man of his time, and of the South and was forced by circumstance into having to accept his position in the Confederate Army. It is an interesting thought as to what might have happened if he had taken the job from Lincoln and commanded the Union Army. But could any man of honor have been able to turn against his people, his family and his neighbors? Lee wouldn’t have been Lee if he’d fought for the North.

  25. Dr. X says:

Granting the Negro political and social equality with the white man was an act of cultural suicide by white society. The Negro has unquestionably been inferior to the white for the past ten thousand years — granting him equality in a democratic white society cannot possibly result in anything but the degradation of that society (cf. Rhodesia).

  26. Sean says:
    @Bite Moi

Even if Lee had annihilated the Northern army at Gettysburg, the North would not have given up. There never was any chance of the South winning a final victory over the North, as Lee understood from the begining. Lincoln offered to appoint Lee commander of the Northern armies at the begining of the war, had he accepted Lee would have crushed the Confederacy in a trice and almost all the 22.6 percent of Southern men who were between the ages of 20 and 24 in 1860 and lost their lives because of the war would have lived.

  27. @Sean

To fight a war of attrition in set-piece battles with an enemy of greater resources and manpower is not the mark of a great general, no matter how you cut it. Lee was the Norths greatest asset, winning the war for them.

Lee also chose to violate the oath he had sworn to defend the Constitution when he became a commissioned officer in the United States army. It’s not hard to envision an alternative history in which Lee as commander of the national army crushed the insurgent fighters at Manassas. Deprived of playing the military card, the disaffected southerners would have had little choice but to return to the negotiations to settle their differences within the democratic process. The “Skirmish of ‘61” would be just a footnote in our history books and maybe Lee, rather than Grant, might have become president, as the hero who saved the Union.

The colossal, headstrong arrogance of the Virginia aristocracy is a thread that runs through our history. So many were descendents of the Cavalier refugees from Cromwell’s England, given asylum by Governor Berkeley. Sectional animosity ran deep, and not over anything as trivial to most Americans as slavery: their mortal enemies were the Puritans of Massachusetts, ideological allies of the hated men who cut off King Charles’ head in the old country.

The Southern Historical Society was founded in Richmond in 1866. As a rare book dealer I once owned a fine bound set of the first fifty volumes of its monthly publication, which made for some interesting reading before I put it up for sale. The society’s purpose was to reinvent the role of the Old Dominion state in the insurrection, on the theory that only those battles that took place in Virginia or those in which Virginian regiments were engaged were of any consequence. Its success is quite astonishing, given the weakness of its argument. Thus the Union’s string of strategically decisive victories in the first year of the rebellion, in the western theatre and along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, is simply ignored, as are the counterinsurgencies in western Virginia, eastern Tennessee, and elsewhere. Yet the society’s romantic fantasy perennially endures that if Longstreet’s Virginians had but succeeded at Gettysburg, southern independence would have been won in one dashing, gallant charge “on the field of honor.” Most critically, it glosses over the Richmond regime’s loss of the home front war for the hearts and minds of its people, who suffered terribly the grim realities of war and an ever-more tyrannical regime. We read of Virginia Governor Letcher ranting about continuing the struggle “until the bones of Virginia’s last sons lie bleaching on the hillside” yet we find him remembered as a hero rather than the arrogant lunatic that he and so many of the south’s political leaders actually were. Lee was one of the rare exceptions; hence his enduring regard.

And do you have similar justifications for every other statue that they are tearing down? Even if you do have said justifications, eventually they will get to one that you can’t explain away, because the iconoclasts don’t care about the individuals that the statues represent. ‘Even if Lee had annihilated the Northern army at Gettysburg, the North would not have given up. There never was any chance of the South winning a final victory over the North, as Lee understood from the begining…’

    Bullshit again.

As a matter of fact, had Sherman failed to capture Atlanta in the summer of 1864, McClellan probably would have won the 1864 election on a peace platform, and the South would have won its final victory. Among those who anticipated such an outcome was Abraham Lincoln. So certainly there was a chance of the South winning the war. It damned near did — even without winning at Gettysburg.

Moreover, while it wouldn’t have happened, had Lee in fact ‘annihilated the Northern army at Gettysburg,’ (there were no ‘major battles of annihilation’ in the American Civil War, for a number of excellent reasons), it seems reasonable to assume the North would have thrown in the towel at that point. As it was, New York City was wracked with draft riots in the aftermath of the battle.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s exasperating.

Freedom for the slaves wasn’t the cause of the war, but rather a by-product. After the war, disenfranchised whites had no vote but the blacks did, and they were going to vote for the occupiers. This situation wasn’t an accident.

See Lincoln’s inaugural address and find out how he said he would not go to war to free slaves; however, he would use force to collect tariffs, which he was massively jacking up. He was true to his word.

At that time the South was paying the overwhelming majority of them while the northern-dominated federal government was largely spending those tax revenues on the North. It’s a situation not unlike what we have now — one group pays while another enjoys the goodies.

When we were kids our history books in school (written by the victors) said nothing about power, money, control, etc., but instead gave the North the moral high ground by pretending that the war was all about slavery and nothing else. Of course, those books avoided pointing out that Union forces happily grabbed blacks to use as slave labor to build fortifications, or how Union soldiers acted like the Red Army entering Germany in 1945, looting and raping women (in this case black women). There was also no mention of the shipping companies that brought slaves to the USA were in New England, or how after the war, when the transcontinental railroad was being built, the first answer to where the labor was going to come from was to enslave the Plains Indians. That didn’t work so well since they tended to wither and die in captivity, so it was decided to simply exterminate them and use other undesirable people, the Irish and the Chinese. (Full disclosure: I’m Irish.) The books also didn’t mention the colonial societies in nearly every northern state and their goal of ridding the country of blacks by shipping them out, which was something Lincoln was planning until the day he died. They also didn’t mention the highly restrictive laws against blacks in northern states. If they did, then it would have been hard to imagine northern states going to war for the blacks they didn’t want around them. And if the war was for the benefit of blacks, why was it that their fortunes largely remained unchanged in the war’s aftermath, or that a quarter of them died after the war because they couldn’t survive in the war-ravaged land. That was doing them a favor?

Like almost everything else, it’s a case of “follow the money.”

‘All they had to do was buy the slaves and free them.’

By 1861, that wouldn’t have prevented the war.

In 1861, Congress passed the original Thirteenth Amendment — essentially guaranteeing that slavery could never be abolished against a state’s wishes. It didn’t make any difference.

The war was like a divorce. It may have started over the wife buying a new three thousand dollar refrigerator against her husband’s wishes — but once the fight got going, it wasn’t just about the refrigerator any more.

‘Avoiding casualties cuts both ways. To make the North consider quitting, Lee had to fight battles to win, not merely survive.’

You’re on a roll, Sean. Lee would have won the war in 1864 simply by hanging on, if Johnston and Hood hadn’t combined to lose Atlanta before the election.

Sean says: Robert E. Lee…understood a Northern based US was destined to expand west and become a continental economy and then superpower, So how could he have ever thought the South might win?”

Easy: by following Pericles’ strategy of never openly engaging the enemy.

When Spartans invaded Attica, Pericles withdrew his fellow citizens into walled Athens (Piraeus), then sent ships to ravage Sparta’s coasts in the absence of its famed-and-feared hoplites.

Similarly, Lee planned to wage a war of attrition. Gettysburg caught him by surprise. Scouts were scavenging for food, Lee’s army moving blindly until it stumbled into Union forces. It was the Rebel Army’s high-water mark, like Stalingrad was for the Wehrmacht. And Moscow for Napoleon.

Had Hitler followed Pericles’/Lee’s strategy, he might have successfully sued for peace. Why? Because Germany had the best soldiers. Russia was no match, absent US aid and materiel. The Reich got sloppy and arrogant and hungry…and stopped listening to its generals. Like Napoleonic France, it also under-estimated Russia’s winters and swamps.

History was unkind to all three leaders.

Pericles died just 2.5 years into the 27-year Peloponnesian Wars. Yet even after plague hit Athens, and killed Pericles, if his successors had followed his advice, they could have prevailed. Alas, hotter heads took over and emulated modern blacks…by not exercising restraint. They foolishly engaged the enemy in-the-field, mano-a-mano (eg, the Syracuse disaster).

Hitler could have achieved his goal, too, if he’d not rushed toward Moscow. He needed to secure oil fields to fuel his armored division. Then he should have held back, not attacking Stalingrad. But he did. And was late doing so weather-wise. Plus Russians felt the need to stand there or lose their nation.

Similarly, Lee advised hit-and-run tactics…not engaging the North full-on. Yet his subordinates didn’t listen. Impatient to act, they wasted time and precious/limited arms and manpower. The South only needed to make life in the North unbearable long enough, making it too costly to continue the war.

Even Gettysburg could have been won…or at least been a draw. But Lee made the mistake of (1) using massed cannon to shoot UPHILL at Union redoubts…causing bombs to burst harmlessly behind enemy lines; and (2) ordering a massed “charge” that was actually a slow stroll. Rebels in full and splendid uniforms walked up a hill to face an enemy (a) unharmed by prior cannon-bombardments and (b) burning to avenge Fredericksburg.

Lee was…functioning in a difficult-to learn accomplishment. and just doing it for its own sake.

    Bullshit.

He was the best general, North or South. And honorable.

Much in war hangs on chance.

The Allies might well have lost WWII had D-Day’s landings failed. And they almost did.

Rommel needed just a bit more time to prepare his defenses. And a panzer tank corps had been moved too far away. Plus German commanders were caught off-guard, vacationing/partying. Even so, Germany nearly won the day.

And if they had, even Ike admitted there was no second punch. The Allies bet everything on their 5,000 ships and 150,000 soldiers at least establishing a beach-head the first day. If that failed, it would have taken too long time to regroup. Germany’s new jets would have been built in numbers sufficient to neutralize Allied air superiority.

In short, the outcome of D-Day was by no means certain.

Neither was the North’s winning the Civil War. Had Lee’s subordinates heeded his counsel (and Robert hadn’t chimped-out himself in PA), Britain and other countries might well have come in on the Rebels’ side. “Cotton was king” in the UK, too: feeding its Industrial Revolution textile mills.

Now: when will whites start taking down monuments to blacks? When will they judge MLK, Paul Robeson, etc. similarly?

Robeson was a Communist. MLK lied a lot, including about his first name: Michael. He was also a drunk, lech, adulterer, plagiarizer, women-beater, brawler, and mocker of dead JFK.

How much more abuse will so-called “patriots” take? Many say “Things have gone too far!” and “That better not happen around me!” Ye they do little or nothing…letting things worsen.

Will anything be left saving by the time they act?

Soon millions of illegals, granted amnesty, will vote to make the USA a permanent Brandonistan.

    Then what?

When we were kids our history books in school (written by the victors) said nothing about power, money, control, etc., but instead gave the North the moral high ground by pretending that the war was all about slavery and nothing else.

I remember having a wakeup call to how indoctrinated I was, the first time I saw “Gone With The Wind.” The whole concept of “North=Good and South=Evil” had been pushed on me so heavily, that I actually had trouble processing that scene where Scarlett shot the Union deserter. The North was supposed to be the good guys, right? So how could this Union soldier have been such a lecherous person?

I’m not going to say that was my wakeup call to all the guilt-laden history that was fed to us over the years, but it was definitely an eye opener.

I’d bet laws are on(in) the books requiring these illustrious bastions of rectitude in positions power in various locales around the nation to maximize the value of the many valuables in their care due to the elections they win or steal. Maximizing the value of the valuables should be the only thought they have in their duty to the taxpayers they were elected by or stole the election from…Sue ’em…not that it’ll matter.
The military is especially prone to this profligacy, I recall a recent incident somewhere in The East
…or The West if you go the other direction.
In fact where’s my Tucano, no Blackhawks please, we’re English…plus never enjoyed helicopters, something about the misplaced wings.

    Harry

You are assuming that Lincoln was an outlier, and that defeat and loss of national territory would not have had the same effect on the North that it repeatedly has had through history (WW1 and Germany a generation later for example). But let us assume the South had pursued a strategy of defence to exhaust the Union army, then switched to outflanking them and striking at key rail lines, ultimately the one supplying Washington, so that the capital city surrendered and the South was able to dictate a permanent settlement on the North, as can be visualised with this still from a Jack Palance picture

What is wrong with this picture is the Southern gentlemen were humping the ass off black women and impregnating them not white ones at a tremendous rate. Had the South achieved final victory there would have been how many mulattoes in the Confederate state within a few generations? Certainly well over a hundred million IMO. They espoused a concealed race traitor ideology.

Yes, the ‘Yankees had something to do with it’. North Carolina’s 1st Cavalry had 407 effectives at Gettysburg. By Appomattox they had only 8 men left.

Actually Sean, after the Federals got done “stamping out the vintage’ down South there was a massive baby boom of mulattoes, from all the rapin’ and humpin’ your boys were busy doing to both negro slaves and whites alike. That is when they had a little break time in between looting and burning.

A large portion of the Union army and it’s leadership were essentially criminal rabble. Thieves, rapists and murderers dressed up in a blue uniform.

Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that there were several instances where your boys penchant for lootin’, and your “officers” refusal or inability to control it, actually cost Yankee armies the strategic initiative on the battlefield, which translated into higher casualties and defeat?

    lol

    I shit you not.

Not that the garbage running the show like Lincoln, Stevens, Sherman or Grant etc.. really gave two shits, since there were boatloads of fresh cannon fodder arriving in Northern ports ever single day.

McManus’ book is outstanding. But Omaha Beach was held by 400 Germans.

Whether they held out for another 2 hours or 2 weeks the outcome of D-Day was never in doubt.

    So…you’re wrong. Try again.

You may need to re-read everything on the Peloponnesian war. No, just kidding. You will never understand warfare.

They day will come when crying news reporters will be screaming about that. When every one of those statues come down i want one . I think his statue would make an excellent lawn jockey.
