At Twitter, the diversity, equity and inclusion team is down to just two people from 30, one former employee said. A DEI worker who was let go from a popular ride-share company said their job search has stalled as other technology companies assess their finances. And just before getting the axe at separate tech giants this fall, two DEI specialists said leadership had stopped setting long-term goals for their departments entirely.
The layoffs sweeping the technology industry are gutting diversity and inclusion departments, threatening company pledges to boost underrepresented groups in their ranks and leadership.
Listings for DEI roles were down 19% last year — a bigger decline than legal or general human resources jobs saw, according to findings from Textio, which helps companies create unbiased job ads. Only software engineering and data science jobs saw larger declines, at 24% and 27%, respectively.
Bloomberg News identified DEI professionals who lost their jobs in recent weeks at Amazon.com Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Twitter Inc. and Redfin Corp. Many said they expect their responsibilities will go to former colleagues who remain or to employee resource groups, which often don’t get compensated for that work.
A spokesperson for Amazon said the company’s DEI priorities haven’t changed and the company remains committed to its goals. A Redfin spokesperson said the company has invested in growing its DEI team since 2021, and despite a recent layoff the group is larger than it was at the start of 2022. A representative for Meta declined to comment.
“I’m cautiously concerned — not that these roles will go to zero but that there will be a spike in ‘Swiss army knife’ type roles,” meaning more DEI professionals will be spread thin as they take on additional job functions, said Textio Chief Executive Officer Kieran Snyder. The phenomenon isn’t likely limited to tech, either, as layoffs hit other parts of the economy. Last year, companies announced plans to cut over 363,000 jobs, up 13% from 2021.
Recent years have seen a diversity and inclusion hiring boom. After Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, organizations of all stripes made promises to boost gender and racial diversity in their ranks. Dozens brought in their first ever Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officers. In the three months after George Floyd’s murder, DEI job postings jumped 123%, according to data from jobs site Indeed.
Now, just as tech companies had started to make progress, they’re scaling back those teams before fully meeting goals or creating workforces that look like the broader US population. Meta Chief Diversity Officer Maxine Williams warned last summer that cost cutting would slow its diversity hiring efforts.
“Cutting DEI oriented staff now, unless you’ve made really progress and can say ‘mission accomplished’ is not a good look,” said Angie Kamath, dean at the NYU School of Professional Studies, who focuses on workforce development. “There are some real risks.”
In some cases, companies might even backslide, said Monne Williams, an Atlanta-based partner at McKinsey & Company.
So it turns out diversity, equity and inclusion isn’t truly important to Silicon Valley companies. Is diversity a strength?

The country which once built the Transcontinental Railroad and Hoover Dam can not even get a rail line from Los Angeles to Fresno nor keep the water running in Jackson, MS.

Diversity is apparently the desire to have the same proportions in one’s employees as appears to exist in broader society. It has never been successfully explained WHY this is considered a good thing, particularly when you consider how self-destructive the wider society has recently become, spiralling out of control in the last 60 or so years.
Diversity is not even on the table for consideration when a privately owned and operated employer assesses the best candidate for the position offered, Only large corporations (you know, the kind with public shareholders) have the ability to hire a candidate who is not the best, just for the sake of virtue signalling.
Equity. Put simply, this is equality of outcomes – not equality of talent. It refuses to countenance merit, hard work or innovation. It is the vapid, immoral heart of socialism.
Inclusion is a feel-good extension of the “every child wins a prize!” mindset. Removal of goals, incentives, and the innate need to strive harder.
There is no wonder that DEI is the first to go when things start to get tough…

In my job, if I found out someone had promotion over me for diversity, I would be very angry. My private company as far as I know measures promotion through attendance and results via an algorithm. Oddly enough,every time she was out with a sick headache, digestive upset,or “fambly” emergency; we produced 4 to 6% more “widgets” that shift. Sheboon was a big girl. Took a lot of extra steps to walk around her.
When you hear that tech companies are “laying off” programmers and engineers etc., remember that they might not really be laying them off, but replacing them with cheaper foreign labor. But the corporate press will NEVER say this.

The author, Kelsey Butler, seems greatly disappointed over employees from “underrepresented” groups being let go — as if they should have been hired in the first place! Michael Bloomberg is a disgrace to the business world for turning his magazine so far leftward. Back in 2016, if one recalls, his magazine did a lengthy, fawning interview with Alicia Garza, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter. That’s what his magazine is: a broadsheet for BLM and its functionaries.
To me, a radio station that goes full hip-hop is a cultural disaster. I’ll take Tom Petty over black petty criminals anyday.
I went to Sweden in mid-1985. The cities I visited were clean and safe, and everywhere I looked were friendly white people. I’m glad I went then because I’d never step foot in the country now or ever again.

TOWSON, Md. — Detectives in Baltimore County are investigating after multiple people were robbed and then sexually assaulted.
It happened Thursday evening near the corner of Joppa Road and Allegheny Avenue.
Students, business owners and people like Damitra Bell who frequent this community are speaking out about this attack.
Bell is a business owner in the area. She, like many others, are hoping police get to the bottom of it so that it doesn’t happen again.
“It’s actually just very shocking because this is actually really secure area. It really just makes you want to be more attentive and it’s really scary,” Bell said.
This was the response from many people in the Towson Circle area after hearing several people had been robbed and then sexually assaulted.
“Never had any issues, never. It’s very peaceful, so yeah it’s shocking,” Bell said.
Bell said she had just left her establishment Thursday night around 10:00 p.m. An hour later police said several people were robbed and then sexually assaulted near the Towson Circle.
Towson University sent out a message to their students informing them of what happened. The advisory stated an unknown armed man robbed three people behind Towson Hot Bagels, before sexually assaulting them.
The advisory mentioned after the attack the man ran away from the area.
Bell like many others are hoping this doesn’t happen again.
“I hope this doesn’t deter residents and visitors and patrons to come to the Towson area because I think by in large Towson is still very safe, it’s a very quiet environment. I mean it definitely makes you wanna just keep an eye out for anything that looks strange or peculiar,” Bell said.
Detectives are still investigating.

Feminism actively pushes women away from their traditional roles as wives and mothers, leading to a dramatic fall in birth rates to well below replacement level in nearly every white nation.

I’ve worked with women over the course of decades, and am well aware of the change (often for the worse) between the ‘60’s and present day.
Back then women were “ladies” and that wasn’t considered a derogatory or sexist label.
They were tough women, worthy of respect, yet tender and nurturing at appropriate times.
One woman I worked with had her husband die at the wheel as they drove down the street during winter. She grabbed the steering wheel and guided the car with two children in the back seat, safely to a stop.
Widowed, she carried on raising her children while having to work at the same time after the death.
She and other women had that aura of femininity but at the same time commanded respect. They didn’t resent being called Mrs., using their husband’s surname, or having doors opened for them.
Quite a contrast today.
Not sure if you’re old enough to remember the 60’s, but to me that was the decade in which the radical change from the traditional and family oriented in the early 60’s, to the beginnings of the militant political activism in the latter part of the decade, occurred with women.
The women I worked with were largely traditional, but the inter mixture and contrast of the early libbers was becoming quite evident.
A lot of factors, but certainly “the pill” was one facilitating influence.

Similarly, men generally outnumber women at lower IQ values associated with well above average intelligence, albeit the ratio is smaller — so stated simply, as measured by IQ, there are simply more smart men than smart women.
To be fair, there are also more dumb men than dumb women — on an IQ curve, women bunch in the middle, whereas there are more distinct tails for men, at both the high and low end of the IQ curve.
So I think the vast majority of women who get liberal arts degrees can not unfairly be labeled midwits.

My impression is that the term “midwit” was coined by Vox Day, who claims an astronomically high IQ (which he never divulges). He applies it to people with IQ in the region of 130 – about halfway between “average” and his own superior intellect.

This IQ curve difference is observed far more easily on the left side of the bell curve, where it is far more difficult to deny… So no leftist will touch it!
