Did you know ‘racial oppression’ from whites to blacks is the reason black people decide to pull the trigger of a gun and target other black people disproportionately?

No?

Well, this nugget of wisdom was just discovered unvarnished in Champaign, Illinois, where yet another excuse for high rates of black gun violence has been passed on to white people and racial oppression. [‘Racial oppression is the root cause of gun violence’: A deeper dive into a city’s multi-million dollar plan for peace, WCLA.com, December 15, 2021]:

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA)– Following a 4-hour Champaign City Council meeting and emotional pleas from dozens, the real work is set to begin.

Council advanced the city’s “Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint” in that meeting Tuesday night. It’s the most expensive, most comprehensive gun violence plan the council has ever come together on.

Countless stories of hurt at the hands of gun violence filled the room, a sign of the sheer number of people who have personal experience with it.

“Saying, hey look, this is what I’m living. This is my reality,” shared Marlon Mitchell, the founder of non-profit FirstFollowers.

Mitchell was not at all surprised by the far-reaching impact of continued violence in the city.

One public speaker shared an audio recording of gunshots that went on for more than a minute. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he says 64 rounds rang out.

“We agree that the root problem is manifested in income inequality, poverty, underfunded public housing, under-resourced public services, achievement gaps in schools, lack of opportunity and perceptions of hopelessness, and easy access to firearms by high-risk people,” another speaker laid out.

In the last five years, the number of shootings involving a victim has more than doubled from 26 in 2016 to 67 in 2021 to date. Homicides have tripled from three, five years ago, to a record-breaking 16 this year.

The city spelled out where it’s happening in a series of maps in the blueprint, and in no surprise to many of the speakers, it’s adversely harming the city’s Black population at an alarming rate.

“Yes, racial oppression is the root cause of gun violence,” a speaker concluded.

“Things have gotten to a point where they’ve escalated really quickly and it’s like a wildfire. I mean if you don’t put it out and you don’t section it off, it’ll spread and it’ll keep spreading,” Mitchell shared.

FirstFollowers is one of the proposed partners in the blueprint. The city plans to invest more than $600,000 in the non-profit to ramp up aid for the formerly incarcerated, including working with the Illinois Dept. of Corrections so people can prepare to re-enter society up to two years before release.

Deputy Mayor, At Large Will Kyles said he’s thankful the blueprint includes tracking success through data, and he was pleased with the community response.

“As one speaker said, it’s the fruition of decades worth of work,” he added. “…That’s what I think that people wanted was the ability to see hope, and to see that it wasn’t just a great conversation.”

ORDER IT NOW

Crime Stoppers would be another partner. The non-profit takes anonymous tips to help solve crime. It plans to expand its Illegal Gun Bounty Reward program. Since Crime Stoppers started offering rewards of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to a gun-related arrest, 42 arrests have been made and 55 firearms recovered.

The goal is to raise that reward to $2,500, and $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in a murder case.

Final approval for the blueprint is expected in January.

“Racial oppression is the root cause of gun violence.”

Funny, data from virtually every city in the United States shows it’s individual black people collectively representing the root cause of gun violence in America.

Just blame white people for all the problems black individuals collectively create. No one will dare argue with this line of thinking, because only a racist would deny the claims of white racism/oppression being behind black individuals propensity for shooting other black people.

  1. They AGREE on antiscientific gobbleydeegook.

We agree that the root problem is manifested in income inequality, poverty, underfunded public housing, under-resourced public services, achievement gaps in schools, lack of opportunity and perceptions of hopelessness, and easy access to firearms by high-risk people,” another speaker laid out.

Whatever fits the (false) Leftist narrative can be spoken devoid of any evidence.
These people have never heard of “correlation is not causation”.
Achievement gaps are the ROOT CAUSE. OMG. Black IQ, self control, education, gang environment cause both low achievement and violence. All this can be scientifically tested and proven. If we allow #HateFacts to be spoken.

The root cause is that ignorant people run the country, that true social scientists get sacked, and that truth sayers like @PK get silenced and smeared.

We is unanimous that mo’ gibs will solve this problem, just like it’s solved all our other problemsfor the past 60 years.

  6. Illinois college towns used to be nice safe escapes from the urban mayhem of Chicago. Not anymore. I think it all changed in the late 90s – early 2000s. Universities sought out “diversity”, the college towns themselves accepted section 8 housing and university police forces were instructed to stop patrolling the area directly outside university grounds. Black fraternities, Chicago drug dealers and bustouts on a GI Bill quickly moved in and destroyed these beautiful little towns. I arrested Chicago thugs carrying major dope, weed and pills headed to Champaign, Peoria and Carbondale. These communities never stood a chance against Dude Inc.

So lack of work-orientation, lack of thrift/proper values, reliance on public services, failing to “act white” in school, failure to make the best of opportunities, feeling that one is obsolete farm equipment, and easy access to firearms by “high-risk people” causes high rates of black gun violence?

REDUCING black gun violence is only possible with the end of 2nd Amendment rights for persons of African extraction.

sitting around proposing what “all nannies agree on” gets us nowhere,
    esp. as it always seems to entail make-work (and immunity) for the otherwise-unemployable;
the reasonable thing to do (meaning it nevah happen) would be to
    double-blind check the competing hypotheses:

    1) Poverty (throw money at it and see if it gets better. Spoiler: No.)
    2) Guns (make guns illegal/mandatory and see what happens.
Spoiler: They already did, and they didn´t like it one bit.)
    3) Joggers (Crimethink!!! Witch! Witch! Besides, how to do away with them?)
    4) I´m not too sure how to quantify Jim Crow … clearly proxies for “segregation”
don´t work (except that deseg, ceteris paribus, roughly doubles overall crime).

I am so sick and tired of these NGO (i.e. left-wing, politically connected) tax leeches; right-wing TLs suck, too. Again, government spending is NOT “investment”. It is waste.

A_p_e and we’ll eliminate the school “achievement gap”. Underfunded public housing. Really.

Regarding easy access to firearms, the government’s role in that, if anything, is to ensure that access is only made hard for felons. NYP published a story about how some toddler found a loaded gun in his house, and proceeded to shoot/kill his dad with it. Billy the Kid. No word on whether it was the victim’s gun, whether the victim was barred from gun ownership, etc.

  29. “Racial oppression is the root cause of gun violence.”

    Let’s see:
-When the US had segregation, was there this kind of gun violence?
-When the US had the “racist” war on crime, did this lead to a spike in homicides?
-When South Africa had apartheid, did they have the crime rates they have today?

The answer to all of these questions is a resounding “NO!”

The obvious point is that whenever YT rolls back the so-called “oppression,” black crime rates explode. We’ve seen this over the last two years as “criminal justice reform” and “de-fund the police” become national policies. And consider that ever since the Civil Rites Revolution (which ended de jure “oppression”), long hot summer riots and gangbanging have become the norm for the ‘hood.

Your average black gets it. When YT gives blacks their “liberation,” it is a license to run amok. When YT refuses to tolerate breakdowns in law & order, crime goes down.

In accordance with the principles of DWL-speak, “oppression” really means holding blacks to the standards of civilization. Can’t have that, whether in Stanleyville or Champagne.

Something to consider in the continuing chaos…

  30. Part of the violence reduction plan is releasing criminals from jail early.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

This would be slightly less Orwellian were it not for the last 60 years of well documented data.

How was crime reduced so dramatically in the 1990’s? More criminals were thrown in jail and for longer periods of time. Our current president helped lead the legislative part of that process.

Very true. University of Illinois, Bradley and Southern Illinois recruited dimwitted black thugs for their athletic programs who in turn told their play-cousins and friends back home how under-policed these college towns were. The white college kids would also shell out big bucks for Oxy pills and hydroponic weed and the white girls were told black boyfriends elevated their coolness and moral status. Let’s not forget the creation of African American studies classes and majors. A toxic and destructive plan for small town America.

The place where this nonsense is happening are the twin cities of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois (home to the main campus of the University of Illinois). The towns used to be like Mayberry up to the 1990s, with low crime, competent politicians, and no racial problems to speak of. The 10% or so of black residents in town were mostly family people and employed. All that has changed.

Starting in the 1990s the leftists moved in and took over, and corruption seeped down from Chicago. It cannot be stressed enough how the political rot and corruption of Chicago has infected the rest of the state since that time. People who live in downstate Illinois (who are mostly conservative) feel like they are under seige from criminals and leftists. You cannot escape it, even in small towns, because the laws passed by leftists apply everywhere (high taxes, burdensome regulaitons, restrictions on police, pushing immorality in schools, attacking religion, promoting teenage sex/abortion, and on and on).

Up until the 1990s the faculty of the University had many professors who were veterans of WWII and Korea, and had obtained their advanced degrees under the GI Bill. When they retired, the commie kooks who were hippies in the 1960s took their jobs. At the same time, the politics of Illinois also took a sharp turn to the left, with Republicans Big Jim Thompsom and Jim Edgar being the last honest governors.

There has been a planned relocation/migration of public housing residents from Chicago to downstate Illinois. The Champaign-Urbana News Gazette did a special series on this over ten years ago, documenting how the Chicago Housing Authority demolished many of their high-crime apartment buildings and relocated their residents downstate to several towns, including Champaign -Urbana. While public housing residents used to be screened for felony records, their relatives and other hangers-on (e.g. “baby-daddys”) are not. So those people came too. Now all these formerly nice downstate towns are infested with criminals and gang members. There are shootings all the time. No town over 20,000 population has escaped this. For example, Danville, just east of Champaign-Urbana was once a nice industrial town with a nice state park nearby; it is now a high-crime hellhole.

The University of Illinois campus regulary has criminals attacking students. There have been assaults, rapes, and regular robberies. Often Asian students are specifically targeted.

This of course is all the fault of Democrats (now openly communist). Illinois was once a great state of industry and agriculture. It has now been wrecked. Any sensible person is leaving for any of the more sensible states in the Midwest. Even “purple” Iowa is better than Illinois now.

I can think of no military bases nearby. Also, the type of base makes a big difference. For example, anyone who has been to Fayetteville, NC, next to Fort Bragg, the home of the Airborne and Special Operations, knows what a troop town can be like. Scott AFB, IL, east of Saint Louis, MO, is very different. It is full of senior ranking officers and NCOs working in major command offices. These are family types who behave themselves, and there’s no sordid “strip” in any nearby towns.
