Our campaign finance reform measure—Prop. 25 —was overwhelmingly defeated by the Democratic Party and their close union allies (with the Republicans cheering them on from the sidelines).

Fortunately, this same powerful coalition had failed to defeat the earlier Prop. 227, whose excellent results continue to gain attention in the media. I enclose the most recent article on the adult English literacy program, from a recent edition of the Los Angeles Times.

Although Prop. 25 would certainly have had a positive impact on our amazingly corrupt political system, the long-term consequences of its structural reforms are dwarfed by those of Prop. 227, which is currently teaching some one million California schoolchildren to read and write English, and assisting many of their parents as well.
