Earlier this month, while meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, President Trump reaffirmed his intent to remove all US troops from Iraq. “We were there and now we’re getting out. We’ll be leaving shortly,” the president told reporters at the time.

Although President Obama should never have sent US troops back into Iraq in 2016, it is definitely well past time to remove them as quickly as possible.

Over the weekend, the Administration announced it would be drawing down troops currently in Iraq from 5,200 to 3,500. That’s a good start.

One big roadblock to finally leaving Iraq alone is President Trump’s de facto Secretary of War, Mike Pompeo. Although he’s supposed to be the top US diplomat, Pompeo is a bull in a china shop. He seems determined to start a war with Iran, China, Russia, Venezuela, and probably a few more countries.

Unfortunately there is a pattern in this Administration where President Trump announces the withdrawal of troops from one of the seemingly endless conflicts we are involved in and an Administration official – often Pompeo – “clarifies” the president’s statement to mean the opposite of what the president has just said.

When the president was questioned over the weekend about a timetable for the US withdrawal from Iraq, he turned to Pompeo for an answer. Pompeo’s response did not inspire much hope. “As soon as we can complete the mission,” said Pompeo. What is the mission? Does anyone know? Aside from “regime change” for Iran, that is.

At his speech accepting the Republican Party’s nomination for re-election last week, Trump declared, “unlike previous administrations, I have kept America OUT of new wars — and our troops are coming home.” That sounds good, but how can he achieve that goal if the people he hires to carry out that policy not only disagree with him but seem to be working against him?

The US invasion of Iraq 17 years ago was correctly described at the time by the late NSA Director Bill Odom as “the greatest strategic disaster in American history.” After a relentless barrage of lies about former US ally Saddam Hussein having “weapons of mass destruction,” the US attack and destruction of Iraq did not bring the peace and prosperity promised by the neocon war promoters.

Instead, the US “liberation” of Iraq killed a million Iraqis, most of whom were civilians. It destroyed Iraq’s relatively prosperous economy. It did not result in a more peaceful or stable Middle East. The US had no idea how to remake Iraqi society and in picking and choosing who could participate in post-invasion Iraq the US helped facilitate the rise of al-Qaeda and ISIS. A secular Iraq had been turned into a sectarian incubator for terrorists and extremists. And the biggest winner in the war was Iran, who the US has demonized as an enemy for over four decades.

Yes, General Odom was right. It was a strategic disaster. Turning the US into a global military empire is also a strategic disaster. Trump’s promise to bring troops home from overseas wars sounds very good. But it’s time to see some real action. That might mean some people who disagree with the president need to be fired.

  1. Good point to be raised before the election in normal times. However, these are not normal times in America. The Repub voting bloc is focused almost exclusively on internal matters of civil unrest—-black/white and left/right conflict being propagated by the 3M of America, the moneyed – media- master elite.

Trump’s voting bloc is normally fully on board with almost any Twitter Tweet that he puts out. They have little understanding about foreign policy at all, let alone the workings of the governing elite in WDC. Trump has been Israel’s best water boy in the White House ever according to their own proclamations. Of course this has been at the expense of the USA and the American tax payer, yet do you see any blow back from his political base on this?

Maybe just the opposite, with our fake Christian Evangelical movement that now worships Israel over all else and seem only glad to willing sacrifice more of our country’s largess, international standing and maybe military boys as well to the Zio project.

Trump’s handler, Jared Kushner, was in the Middle East to corral the Arab oil sheiks to formally recognize Israel, despite of its tearing up the Oslo Peace Accords and going all out for a Palestine land grab. This received super news coverage in the MSM, as something that the voters should be elated about and move their undecided vote to Trump. I doubt it will have any impact with Main Street and even with liberal Jewish voters, which may have been his primary focus here.

As long as the MSM (especially the fake liberal CNN and fake right Fox) refuses to carry news story that are critical or do not serve Israel’s interest, then I see Ron Paul’s justifiable call for Trump to honor his promise to pull out of Iraq as something that will not be taken seriously by either political base this election year.

  2. It’s not just on the promises to end the warmongering. Trump is basically just a bullshitter in general, I’m sorry to say. I expected better back in ’16.

This is one area, his being Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, in which I especially don’t want to hear “oh, but judges! The swamp is stacked against him!” Yeah, who has stacked the swamp over the last 3 1/2 years? If this latest withdrawal doesn’t happen as promised, it’s simply because Trump doesn’t want it to happen, is too cowardly to follow-through under threats from TPTB, or is too stupid to ignore the war-mongering generals.

Really, I think Dr. Paul is simply being polite here. He’s got to know by now that President Trump’s word is good for squat-all.

  3. As always, Dr. Paul speaks the truth.

  4. Everything the OP said sounds right to me.

Seriously, though, President Trump is a mixed bag. He promises to withdraw from Iraq, but he doesn’t do it, and when the Iraqi Parliament passes a resolution saying he should do it, he says he won’t, and even if he does he’ll punish Iraq with sanctions bigger than the sanctions on Iran.

I think for Trump it is largely an ego thing. A part of him wants to reverse the policies of his predecessors because he knows they’re a failure. But he’s also trying to follow a “never show any weakness at all” ethos, which really gets in the way of backing down from, well, anything.

After the Soleimani assassination back in January I wrote about how Trump is acting like the United States is the only sovereign nation in the world: It’s hard to imagine this ending well.

  5. Durruti says:

    Dr. Ron Paul

I suggest you set up a Dual – Shadow Government – (as is done by the opposition political parties in England).

    Ron Paul
    Jesse Ventura
    Dennis Kucinich
    Cynthia Mckinney
    Bob Dylan
    Joan Baez

    1. Restore American sovereignty (full independence from Rothschilds & other Zionist Oligarchs, & their military entity – ‘Israel).

    2. Full independence & local control over the Media (freedom of Speech)

    3. Full compliance with our Constitution.

    4. Reveal assassins of the Kennedys, ML King, Malcolm X, John Lennon, and others.

    5. Bring all American Soldiers Home (an old demand of yours).

    6. Trials for Treason of Zionist Pedafile Traitors.

#6 kind of takes your breath away.

    1. Committees of Correspondence (to resist Zionist control of the Media).

    2. Sons & Daughters of Liberty to press demands & protect our citizens.

Intend to write-in you – Ron Paul for President, & Cynthia Mckinney, for VP (if I decide to vote).

    God Bless!

Durruti – alias Dr. Peter J. Antonsen

    * Have you heard Dylan’s new song, “Murder Most Foul?”

  6. Further to Ron Paul’s calling out Trump for his failure to keep one of his main campaign promises of 2016, below is an interesting article by Jonas E. Alexis:

Who is this man really trying to fool now? The average American? Didn’t he make these promises long before he ever became president? Did he blast the Iraq War? Didn’t he promise that he would put an intermission to perpetual wars in the Middle East? And why didn’t he bring the troops home three years ago? Two years ago? A year ago? Six months ago? And he thinks we’re going to fall for this?

Yeah Jonas, sorry to bring you the bad news, but the American voting public in Main Street USA love to be suckered every 4 years!!! Being lied to and lopping it all up, is now second nature to the MEGA cheerleaders for Pres Trum, the Kushner led Zio-puppet.

All the broken promises about troop pull outs and cleaning out the swamp can be overlooked again and again because Trump can speak the dialect of white trash talk, seriously. He now plays the phony role of the “Savior of White America” from the looming menace of the BLM/ANTIFA demonstrations gone wild.

How the public loves to be suckered and so quickly forget their real woes and cancel their own interests to remain part of some bigger tribal grouping! The Trump-Kushner ticket is now a shoe in. LoL and Enjoy.
