Last week Congress passed a massive coronavirus relief and omnibus spending bill. President Trump threatened to veto the bill, saying he wants an increase in the amount for “stimulus” checks authorized by the bill from 600 dollars to 2,000 dollars. The checks are designed to help those harmed by the lockdowns. President Trump also demanded a cut in some of the wasteful spending contained in the bill, such as the ten million dollars for gender programs in Pakistan.

At the 11th hour, however, President Trump signed the bill.

President Trump’s veto threat came after many people complained that a 600 dollars one-time payment was insufficient, and that the payment could be higher if Congress cut spending on militarism, foreign aid, and corporate handouts.

The text of the 5,593-page bill was made available hours before the votes in the House and Senate. Representatives and senators were told the bill had to pass immediately or else government would shut down around Christmas. This does not excuse voting for the bill. Congress should have refused to vote for this bill until members had time to read it. Those who voted “yes” should not get away with claiming the bill needed to be passed before members could read it.

While it is understandable that many are outraged over the way this bill was rushed through, the real outrage is that the rushed passage of omnibus bills has become a yearly Christmas tradition on Capitol Hill. These spending bills are always full of outrageous special interest giveaways. This practice denies the average member of Congress a meaningful role in carrying out one of Congress’ two most significant constitutional duties — funding the government. Congress long ago abandoned its other main constitutional responsibility — declaring war.

Whether 600 dollars or 2,000 dollars, a one-time stimulus payment is hardly adequate compensation for the suffering the government lockdowns have inflicted on the American people. Stimulus checks will not reopen closed small businesses or stop increases in domestic violence and substance abuse. A government check will not restore educational and development opportunities denied to children stuck at home struggling with “virtual education.” A one-time check will not compensate workers for the health problems developed due to having to wear a mask for eight hours a day. The only just solution is to end the lockdowns, and never again allow overblown fears to justify shutting down the economy.

Funding the government via massive omnibus bills drafted in secret and rushed into law concentrates power in the hands of a select few representatives and senators. It also gives the president excessive influence over the appropriations process. This is exactly the opposite of what the Framers intended when they gave Congress power over government spending.

This situation is the inevitable result of a government that tries to maintain the fiction that republican institutions are compatible with a welfare-warfare leviathan. Congress will continue to indulge this delusion until the system collapses. This collapse will likely be brought on by a collapse in the dollar’s value.

The combination of the high-profile coronavirus bill with this year’s omnibus spending bill has brought new attention to Congress’ practice of funding the government via massive, unread appropriations bills. Hopefully, the anger people are expressing, instead of just disappearing once people receive their checks, will strengthen the movement to return to free markets and limited constitutional government. Liberty is a far better option than descent into economic chaos and totalitarianism.

  1. Hidden things??? ….Speaking of interesting see Asking the question what is the relationship of and the Dominion Software for voting??? ??? A type of Dominion named software is also used for power generation models???? • With an estimated net worth of $9.3 billion, James Goodnight is the wealthiest person in North Carolina and one of the 100 wealthiest people in America. Like many in the Research Triangle area, Goodnight made his fortune in the software industry. Goodnight founded analytics software firm SAS with a fellow NC State University faculty member in 1976. The company has since grown from $138,000 in annual revenue to $3.2 billion. SAS has more than 14,000 employees worldwide Probably off on a tangent here. Also is there any relationship??? to Solar Winds with Scott Aaronson David J. Bruton Centennial Professor of Computer Science; Director, Quantum Information Center, University of Texas, Austin, USA who was at the 2020 World Economic Forum????

The lunacy of what gov’t spends on, besides murdering people all over the world, is shocking.

  5. @ImaBotKnot once again we see SAS …. Steve Bennett, former director of national biosurveillance at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said the type of technology used for contact tracing can make a difference. … Perhaps more importantly, Bennett, who now directs global government practice at software company SAS, said the alert-based system of the apps doesn’t clearly identify what kind of contact individuals have with one another. Traditional contact tracing is based on interviews with individuals, who describe their activities in detail.

Now for a different SAS abbreviation ….. The FCC has authorized Amdocs’s Spectrum Access System (SAS) for CBRS, meaning Amdocs can now operate as a SAS administrator on a commercial basis. Moral of the story Israel spys on us/US and controls us/US ???? More access to US Navy communications and even Citizens Band Radio????

  7. I can’t say much besides that was another great column by one of the only Constitutionalists left around here. Thank you.

I would add my usual comment about the false hope in the last paragraph (no, young Americans wouldn’t know free markets, personal freedom, or what constitutional government is, if it all came up and bit them in their asses), but I won’t ’cause it’s Christmas time.

    Belated Merry Christmas, Ron Paul!

One of the dumbest things I’ve never understood is why people complain about the House getting huge ass bills at the zero hour. They’ve got 400+ people. Just give everyone 10 pages, have them write down what’s good and what’s shit and then just vote it all down cuz it’s stupid and gay.

Even when you factor out the black house members not being able to read, everyone else can read a page every 4 minutes and still have time to spare.

  11. Omnibus Bills are an evil. They should be illegal.
The US economy needs stimulus. Many US citizens need financial assistance. Give money to those who will spend — loss of more small business, evictions & bankruptcy helps no one…except Elites.

  12. Emslander says:

I think that the proper phrase is “out of control”. The unelected government at every stage from fire control district to the D.C. swamp is now ascendant and no one there has any control either. What does control and will, in the end, is gravity. It will fall.

  13. @Brian Reilly

Ron Paul has been sane, clean, and honest since well before you were born (I’m guessing). This is not some new thing. The problem is that hardly any Americans supported him and people like him in his Constitutionalism. I have over the years. How about you, Brian?

  15. @Liberty Mike

Mike, Giuliani had the SC faux-patriot crowd almost giving him a standing ovation. That episode was shameful for South Carolinians.

Mr. Paul phrased things in terms of the Golden Rule, twice in the clip, as a matter of fact. You’d think Bible-reading S. Carolinians might understand a bit. Nope, ‘Merica, fuck yeah!

BTW, Dr. Paul NEVER said “we invited this”, as the moderator and Rudy Giuliani both said. There’s a difference between “we invited this” and “our stupidity and arrogance was the root cause of this”.

  16. Indeed many in Congress were glad Mr. Paul retired. The amount of waste is astounding.

  17. Munchausen’s Syndrome on a National Scale as Official U.S. Health Care Policy

Munchausen’s Syndrome is a form of extreme mental illness in which individuals cause symptoms that mimick actual diseases, frequently by poisoning their victims. Those with Munchausen’s Syndrome are often in positions of authority, and those with Munchausen’s are also frequently employed in the health care sector.

The CIA also has individuals with Munchausen’s Syndrome. The CIA has resorted to such tactics in the past.

It is my hypothesis that Corona-Thrax was developed so that individuals that are being extrajudicially murdered with 5G mimmick symptoms of corona-thrax. Anthrax causes symptoms that affect the brain, lungs, heart, blood vessels, and kidneys. 5G uses microwaves and at the high end of the frequency range it vibrates water molecules. Microwave ovens cook food by vibrating molecules. The vibrating molecules causes friction. The friction causes the heat which cooks the food, like rubbing two sticks together, and creating a fire that way, which I have yet to succeed at doing, but it can and has been done, and it is a well known fact.

The anthrax vaccine caused narcolepsy in military recipients. When the corona outbreak first started in China, the individuals collapsing in the street appeared to suffer from narcolepsy as well. Bill Gates has a Gavi division in China. Chinese people may have been experimented on without their knowledge or consent.

Corona deaths initially were reported to have been from kidney failure in China.

Just as The Machine decided to opt for a simultaneous manufactured crisis of covid-19 to use as a fall guy for the third economic collapse in twenty years in a CYA psy-op, the military has also developed Corona-Thrax. Why would they develop something that could kill them? My guess is that they are extrajudicially murdering people with 5G and blaming it on Corona-Thrax. I do not believe that they would release it into the environment. I believe that it serves as a psy-op and that the majority of people who did get sick had the flu.

  18. Regarding my comment above #17, they are referring to this as Multi System Inflamatory Disease and Pediatric Multi System Inflamatory Disease. Unplugging Wi-fi and turning cell phones off might reduce these symptoms if someone lives in a single family house. Even in my single family house i still am bombarded with wi-fi from more than a dozen others though. Wi-fi EMF radiations falls in relation to the inverse square from the source of the wi-fi. It also causes other neurological problems including Parkinson’s, insomnia, anxiety, stress, migrains, nausea, lethargy, exhaustion, strange dreams, and it increases cortisol levels leading to obesity and heart disease, and over all poor health.

  19. bayviking says:

This is one liberal that is grateful for the honest intellectual contributions Ron Paul has made against the welfare-warfare leviathan that is the US Government. Paul joined another honest politician, Bernie Sanders in sponsoring legislation to audit the Federal Reserve which initially revealed that $16.7 trillion had been handed out to criminal Bankers that own Fed Stock. However, to date Paul’s concern regarding inflation driven by spending has not proven out, and can be explained by Michael Hudson as debt deflation.

Paul claims Congress’ two most significant constitutional duties are funding the government. and declaring war. While Paul is correct in naming these duties he leaves out Congress’ most important duty which is promoting the general welfare. Roads, schools, sewer and water projects, communication systems should all be socialist programs which promote the general welfare and reduce the cost of conducting business. Even national defense is a socialist program and it is unfortunate that the word has been so vilified in the USA. But, Paul is correct in his claim that most defense spending is misguided and unnecessary. The best economy is a mixed economy wherein natural monopolies are controlled by the State in order to keep American business competitive.
