Imagine that President Trump spent his phone call with the Ukrainian president threatening to withhold military aid unless the Ukrainian government agreed to use the money to purchase weapons from a US manufacturer. Does anyone seriously think that foreign service professionals and deep state operatives would be so shocked and offended by Trump’s request that they would launch efforts to impeach him? Would Congress view this as “high crimes and misdemeanors” or applaud Trump for carrying out one of modern presidents’ supposedly most important jobs — acting as salesmen for the American military-industrial complex?

This hypothetical shows that impeachment is not about President Trump’s abuse of power. Instead, it is an attempt to make sure President Trump, and all future presidents, confine their abuses of power to items that advance the agenda of the political establishment.

President Trump’s most consequential abuses of power have been met with the full approval of the majority in Congress, the mainstream media, and the deep state. For example, when President Trump launched military action in Syria without obtaining a congressional declaration of war there were no calls for his impeachment. Instead, most members of Congress were perfectly happy to let stand unchallenged President Trump’s claim that the 2001 authorization for use of military force —a limited grant of authority to act against those responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks — gave him the authority to launch military action against a government that had nothing to do with the September 11th attacks. The only times Congress rebukes President Trump’s foreign policy is when he speaks favorably about pursuing peaceful relations with Russia or ending US involvement in no-win military conflicts.

This hypocrisy extends beyond foreign policy. Many Democrats who claim that President Trump is both a fascist and mentally unhinged are eager to ensure President Trump can continue to conduct warrantless surveillance on every American by reauthorizing Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act.

Trump-opposing progressives in Congress are also eager to give President Trump new authority to violate the Second Amendment. Even those progressives who say they believe Trump is a deranged fascist did not object when he endorsed “red flag” laws that give the government power to, as President Trump put it, “take the guns first, go through due process second.”

Perhaps the most sickening example of Trump’s congressional opponents’ hypocrisy is how many of those fretting about the safety of the Urkrainegate ”whistleblower” are silent about, or supportive of, the Trump administration’s complicity in the inhumane treatment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. They are also silent about the US government throwing Chelsea Manning back into jail because she refuses to help the US prosecution of Mr. Assange.

All modern presidents have exceeded constitutional limitations on their power and thus could have, and maybe should have, been impeached. The reason they were not impeached is that a majority of Congress members support allowing presidents to wage war abroad and destroy liberty at home without being “hamstrung” by Congress. The only real dispute among the political class is which party should wield the levers of power.

Restoring constitutional limits on government power and thus protecting liberty depend on spreading ideas and building a movement. Our lost freedom will only be restored when presidents and members of Congress fear being “impeached” at the ballot box for committing high crimes and misdemeanors against peace, prosperity, and liberty.

  1. Another factor here is that Ukraine is democratic pet project.

    This article by former Congressman and America’s finest Statesman Dr. Ron Paul, contains a very fine critique of the Unconstitutional behavior of all our Presidents, at least since November 22, 1963.

    Unfortunately, Dr. Paul leaves out the critique of our Modern Presidents “acting as salesmen” for the Zionist Financial Oligarchs’ New World Order. After all, who controls Americas’ Finances, and Americas’ Government? Hint: It is not Luxemburg. AIPAC, Bnai Brith, MOSSAD, Epstein, his Bosses the Rothschilds, and the Maxwells, remains an unknown, an unpermitted mention for Dr. Ron Paul, as well as his son, Senator Rand Paul.

    No American politician is permitted to criticize these controllers of America. And none dare!

    This Steel Wall that so limits political discourse, Greatly Harms, all Americans who value their freedom, their Liberty. This Steel Wall renders Dr. Paul’s articles, the finest articles written by any well-known American, incomplete, and misdirectional. The “American military-industrial complex” is nothing of the sort. Nothing in America belongs to Americans.

    We are an Occupied Nation. We have no Republic, and no Sovereignty. We may not elect Constitutional Representatives or Presidents. We may not protect our cities, our Sailors, or our Citizens from Zionist Terror. Our craven traitor politicians don the Yarmulka and wag their head at the Old Roman Wall, upon receipt of a Phone call. Jonathan …………

    Freedom is not free! We must Pay for it!

    America no longer works for the majority of American citizens. I would place this breaking point and collapse at 1992 and the election of Bill Clinton. Since the election of Bill Clinton, the governments, Federal, state, and local, as well as corporations have repeatedly and consistently lifted restrictions on themselves and imposed more restrictions, violating the liberties of citizens.

    Restrictions that have been lifted at the peril of America have included but not been limited to NAFTA, CAFTA, China most favored nation trade status- allowing national security secrets to be passed onto the Chinese government, the demise of blue sky laws, and the repeal of Glass Steagal. Parasitic restrictions placed on citizens have included but not been limited to the Patriot Act, HR6393, the NDAA, section 702, increases in regulations and moving minor ordinance violations to felonies, increases in fines and license requirements, compliance requirements and regulations, and monumental increases in jail and prison populations.

    If it is not safe to tell children the truth about how corrupt this country is, it is not safe to have children in this country. At what point does it become safe to tell the children about corruption and predation by those who are supposed to protect them and those that they are supposed to trust? Do they find out on their own, after being lied to for their entire lives by parents, teachers, the government and media and become terrorists or school shooters in extreme cases? Maybe when teachers and parents start telling the children the truth about 9/11 things will start to change. This country is corrupt, unfit, abusive, and unsafe. Stop lying to children. How sick is the Santa Clause conspiracy? I think that it is sick as hell that a society has decided that psy-opping children would be a cute idea for the sake of mind control and behavior control. It is so sick that it makes my head spin!

    A country that only serves the needs of the few at the expense of the many cannot survive. That is what we currently have. It is very similar to the late 1800s. Something has to change, or America will perish.

    If that’s the case why didn’t they impeach Bush?

    IMO there are several possibilities here, one being that orange clown is perceived as being too incompetent and/or mentally unstable to properly represent the empire and manage its affairs.

    For example, if orange clown manages to start a war with Iran, it could easily become WW3 and the end of the empire. Maybe some influential deep state faction doesn’t want to risk that.

    @Harold Smith

    Uh huh and this is why they’re ramping up a war with Russia using Ukraine as their proxy. The point is that whether you like the orange clown or not he unlike Clinton would have done started a war.

    This whole impeachment is just a scam. One to cover Biden’s butt and distract away from his corrupt son.

    If it was substantive in any way Trump like any President before him would be in the docket for violating Article I Section 8.

    They are shit-heads. That’s the explanation. That’s the diagnosis. Shit-heads are incapable of believing in anything and incapable of thinking. Shit-heads do not know right from wrong, good, from evil, justice from injustice, etc.

    That’s what we’re stuck with! Brainless Shit-Heads! Don’t anticipate things improving. This is the Era of Shit-Heads!

    It’s good to see you have realized that Trump is a Deep State minion.

    I believe the Deep State consists of the very wealthy who are greedy for more wealth and power. There are 607 billionaires in the US. There is no reason for the Deep State members to formally collude…they all know what needs to be done and how to do it. They use a relatively small amount of their money to place their minions in positions of power…heads of the movie industry, the media, the federal government, academia. From then on if the lessers in these groups want to keep their jobs/lives they will toe the line. It becomes self sustaining from tax money and the Deep State glories in more wealth and power. Here is an excellent example of the Deep State in action: The SCOTUS has passed down egregious decisions that abridge the First Amendment and show contempt for the concept of a representative democracy. Buckley v. Valeo, 424 U.S. 1976 and exacerbated by continuing stupid SCOTUS decisions First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission.
    These decisions have codified that money is free speech thereby giving entities of wealth and power almost total influence in elections. By gaining control of the SCOTUS the Deep State is able to further their goals.

    Another take on the Deep State:
    https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2019/11/14/understanding-the-deep-states-propaganda/

    The Deep State doesn’t care about the unimportant internecine squabbles of the ‘two parties’ as long as their important issues are maintained. As a matter of fact it strengthens the false perception that there is a choice when voting.

  8. Partisan struggles can lose sight of the real danger facing America – the world. They can blind us to the entropic decay globally, and our chaotic slide into the abyss of nuclear Armageddon. The warnings from history are there, yet no one sees them.

  9. Thank you, Ron Paul, for pointing out some of the hypocrisy and contradictory talk and action out of the Deep State and their useful idiot minions of the ctrl-left. Yes, they will call people Nazis as they abuse the rule of law and due process to berate and often literally beat the crap out of those they call Nazis. They will call people Fascist without seeing that the American economic system that they decry as Capitalist is a lot closer to Fascist.

    You can call it Bizarro-America, Clown World, the Era of Shit-Heads, or Peak Stupidity – it ain’t gonna stop till things get real in the coming economic SHTF.

    The ctrl-left IS the establishment now, and as Peak Stupidity recently pointed out, they don’t need the rule of law and due process to help them out anymore as they did in the 1960s.

    I appreciate these columns, as they may convince those who haven’t thought much about it, what is really going on. However, the left does not care about these logical arguments about their hypocrisy and contradictions. They want to win, is all.

    Oh, and one quibble: As patriotic as Chelsea Manning may be, he is a dude, Dr. Paul. I know you’re just a country doctor, but …

  10. @Rebel0007

    It started long before Clinton. NAFTA was an extension of the FTA and began under Reagan. The FTA hadn’t been finished when NAFTA was already being floated.

  11. Rebel0007 says:

    @Curmadgeon,

    Reagan’s Free Trade Agreement was with Canada, which has a higher pay rate and currency value than Mexico, so that would be a different situation than a race to the bottom, which is what America is currently in.

    However, the auto industry was threatenned by the Japanese, then the Chinese, then the Koreans, the US auto workers have to a large degree been their own worst enemies.

    There must be a balance somewhere between the rapacity of the rober barons and the destructions, sabotage, and outrageous demands of the unions.

    Union bosses never have union members interests in mind. I have known disatissfied union members in public education being targeted for non comliant political views and basically for being white and more competent than their peers. The unions would do absolutely nothing for them because they were unwilling to take a “politically incorrect” viewpoint and possibly jeopardizing their own careers.

  12. @Rebel0007

    Unions should not be allowed to begin with for government jobs. It creates a cycle of corruption, with union members coming out in big numbers to vote for the politicians that will negotiate good deals with their union. I agree with your comment in general, Rebel.

  13. Rebel0007 says:

    @Achmed E Newman,

    After the extreme abuses weilded by government unions at the expense of the rest of America, I cannot disagree with you.

    Most governmemt employees are Democrats simply because Democrats plan to increase the government employees powers by expanding government and raising taxes to increase their salaries. It is a religion for them that has been atrociously abused to the point of treason.

    Reagan campaigned on NAFTA. The problem was that the Mexican’s were still hung up on that sovereignty thing. Mexico had another economic crisis and GHWB talked Salinas into and negotiated it under “fast-track” legislation where no changes could be made – just an up or down vote. Clinton screwed his base and got it ratified. I read somewhere that GHWB agreed to look the other way when the campesinos came off the farms and went north to the US to get it approved.
