On December 9-10 President Biden will preside over an online “Summit for Democracy,” which claims it will “bring together leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector to set forth an affirmative agenda for democratic renewal and to tackle the greatest threats faced by democracies today through collective action.”
What a joke. This is not about promoting democracy. It’s really about undermining democracy worldwide with US interventionist foreign policy.
Yes, the conference is anti-democracy, not pro-democracy.
The countries whose elected leaders do the bidding of the United States – disregarding the wishes of those who elected them – are to be favored with an invitation to this “virtual” event. The countries that pursue domestic and foreign policy that is independent from the demands of the US State Department and CIA are not allowed into Washington’s sandbox to play.
Much of the world has seen through the pettiness of such an infantile approach. It is like the fairy tale of the emperor with no clothes. None of the sycophantic foreign leaders graced with an invitation to the banquet dare point out that the US is in the business of undermining democracy overseas, not promoting it.
Color revolutions, where elected governments are overthrown with US backing, is about the only thing the US exports these days. Ask the Ukrainians how their US-backed overthrow in 2014 has worked out for them. Ask any victim of US anti-democratic “color revolutions” about the US commitment to democracy.
For Washington, democracy means “you elect who we tell you to elect.”
European Union member country Hungary is the only EU country not invited to participate in the “Summit for Democracy” even though it has undeniably held fully democratic elections since the end of communism 30 years ago. There is no question that Hungary is a democratic country, but it is not invited to Biden’s “Summit for Democracy.”
Why? Because the Biden Administration does not like Hungary’s democracy. It does not like the fact that the Hungarian people have voted for a conservative government that occasionally pursues foreign and domestic policies at odds with the dictates of Foggy Bottom and Langley.
The Biden Administration does not like that Hungary resisted the mass invasion of refugees from countries and cultures absolutely alien to Hungary’s history. Biden does not like the fact that Hungarians have voted time and time again for a conservative government that openly professes Christian values. But what they hate most is that when Washington says “jump,” Budapest doesn’t always ask “how high?”.
It’s a petty game that has already backfired like all of Washington’s idiotic interventionist initiatives. For example, in the Hungarian situation, Washington’s childish snub of Hungary has meant that the rest of the European Union cannot participate in the summit as the EU.
Washington’s intervention overseas is always an own-goal. Sanctioning Russia over phony Russiagate has resulted in more Russia-China cooperation. The US tells Iran it must not sell oil anywhere, and similarly-demonized China cuts a good deal for Iranian oil.
It won’t shock anyone that Russia and Iran – which both hold elections no less democratic than those in Ukraine, where opposition parties are outlawed and their leaders jailed – are not invited to Biden’s little party. But no doubt their absence will be more than made up by North Macedonia, Suriname, and Micronesia. Democracy summit? More like propaganda summit! What a joke!
A “Democracy Index” ranking in February by The Economist magazine placed the U.S. 28th. (Norway was number 1.) What on God’s good earth gives the U.S. the right to host a democracy summit? I am a meritocracy guy. If there were a summit on “how to bake baguettes” I would want France to host it. And so on.
When you live in a bubble as the entire US does then democracy is what you say it is.
For absolute dictators like Biden he is unable to perceive the hypocrisy he represents.
Throughout all history democracies always degenerate in to dictatorships like the US.
So don’t be so hard on Biden.
If the US really ever had been a democracy, which it never has, then Biden would have been strung up by the neck from a lamppost just like Mussolini was.
Both Biden (along with all US presidents before him) and Mussolini are Corporatists. Or to use an old fashioned term: fascists.
Ostensibly the US fought WW2 to defeat fascism, at least that was the propaganda you were brainwashed with, while in actual fact the US was then and is now: a fascist entity.
Just the pigeons are coming home to roost and you US stool pigeons don’t like what the world has had to endure at your hands for decades.
Will be glad when the US ceases to exist. Can’t come soon enough.
Once one starts to notice how commonly political writers assume that “democracy” is the highest good, one does not ever stop noticing it.
There’s no “democracy” of “freedom” anywhere in the West now.
What kind of “democracy” allows all these crazy diktats without people having any say in it?
What kind of “freedom” is it when you’re required a “vaccine passport” that has to be updated every six months or so to be able to do anything?
For these people, it’s all about inversion. “Democracy” means oligarchy, “Freedom” means slavery, “Health” means sickness, “Peace” means war. I guess they took Orwell’s book as a manual.
Willie Loman is alive and resurrected and just had a coffee with Crumbley’s–Jim and Jen and guess what–Ethan is AOK. Indeed the USA dream exists. Biff and Happy are entertaining Hunter this weekend.
The 2020 election was a coup. The perpetrators of a ham-fisted coup are holding a democracy summit. Can it get any more ridiculous?
Money is the only attraction the U.S. still has, and not for much longer.
Biden is not a dictator…he is a dickhead. He was born an idiot and is now braindead. He is the titular President who is a puppet of the Deep State.
Agreed.
Sadly it can get more ridiculous and will until the U. S. populace wises up.
The sooner the better.
Senile Biden is only a would-be dictator, not an actual one. The fact the courts are shutting down his vax mandates one by one must greatly annoy him, as well as his partner in crime, evil Tony Fauci. When “dickhead” says that “his patience is wearing thin,” and that the ongoing Covid panic is “a plague of the unvaccinated,” all we can do is laugh at that imbecile.
Every day that goes by, Biden’s power wanes further. Just ignore his latest tirades, (people with dementia are prone to them), and go about your daily business. Every time he is on TV, just turn it off. The greatest danger is that this senile old fool, sensing that he has lost the respect of the people, will order a strike on Russia, and, with the defense establishment full of yes-men like SecDef Austin and Trump-hating Gen. Milley, there will be no one left in the Chain-of-Command with the gonads to stop him.
If Norway is number one it is because the people are in a coma. Norskies get the same choices everyone gets. Take one of the banker’s boys or else. And STFU.
‘Biden is not a dictator…he is a dickhead. He was born an idiot and is now braindead. ‘
You cannot be both? Can you say Idi Amin?
Democracy is not a stable form of government anyway.
Better a Republic.
Wow! I’ve not read or heard Dr. Paul going in this direction before. He’s always been straight honest, and respectful of the Constitution, but it’s about time he understood that, as Peak Stupidity wrote years ago here, “Libertarians have a lot to learn from the conservatives, and conservatives have a lot to learn from the libertarians.”
During the early part of his ’12 campaign for R nomination, I told Ron Paul “If you want to win [REDACTED State], you need to talk about illegal immigration.” I wish he’d taken that to heart.
Anyway, it was great to read that particular line above from Dr. Paul here.
.
PS: I know, the legal immigration invasion is just as important.
Thank you! In response to the can’t-be-too-ignorant Boris May, the US didn’t start as a Democracy and was never supposed to be one.. If we’d held onto the Constitutional Republic, with, say 400 Ron Pauls in Congress instead of 1, we’d still be a great country.
Oh, and, to me, SafeNow, a list by The Economist is not to be trusted any more than health advise from Anthony Fauci. That’s not to say that Dementia Joe is in any position to be lecturing other governments on anything.
