Many have expressed concerns that coronavirus will be used, as 9/11 and the hoax “war on terror” were, to further expand the American police state dystopia. But we were doomed by the digital revolution to a controlled existence regardless of 9/11 and Covid-19.

The digital revolution provides government and corporations with unlimited and unaccountable ability to spy and control populations. Every word, deed, and movement of people can be tracked and a “social credit” dossier built for them. China already has such a control system in place. Those whose profiles are outside acceptable parameters are unable to function in normal society, being blocked from passports, driving licenses, employment, and activities reserved to those with acceptable social credit scores.

Technology is now available that permits videos to be created of people speaking words that they never spoke. These can be used to ruin people on social media and to convict them falsely in trials. Privacy no longer exists despite endless “privacy notices,” and people have no control over their persona.

Even a person’s unspoken thoughts are under assault by mind-reading technologies. Once money has been reduced to digital money, a person’s access to his funds can be cut off at any time. Financial independence ceases to exist for those who don’t comply.

The outcome of the digital revolution is completely different from the naive belief that the Internet opened up communicative freedom that would ensure liberty. What a joke this belief turned out to be. The tech and social media firms themselves engage in censorship of explanations, called “conspiracy theories,” that differ from official or permissible explanations or use words found “offensive” by privileged groups. Truth itself has become a “conspiracy theory.” Factual history is unacceptable to Identity Politics and is being replaced by fake history, such as the New York Times’ 1619 Project.

It is certainly true that indoctrination is part of enculturation, and every age has had to struggle for truth. There have always been interests whose agendas are served by falsehood. But for those determined, it was possible to challenge and to expose the falsehoods. That possibility is what is extirpated by the digital revolution.

The technology is already in advance of that portrayed in George Orwell’s dystopia, 1984. We await the coalescing of elite interests in a leadership agenda. All the tools Big Brother needs await his arrival.

The young born into the digital revoluton know no different. They are so taken with their electronic gadgets and indispensable apps and so content in their self-isolation in virtual reality that liberty means the ability to push buttons to call up images and entertainment. Liberty will not have to be taken from them. It has already left them. Indeed, they never knew it or its requirements.

The well-rewarded techies who created the instruments of oppression are proud of their contribution to the creation of a police state dystopia. These preening fools are the handmaidens of the police state.

ORDER IT NOW

Years ago I read a science fiction short story about a father and mother who were concerned about their son as the age of testing approached. They were members of a people that had somehow recovered from an enslaving technology. To prevent a reoccurence, testing of the young was instituted to weed out for extermination those whose intelligence and aptitude could bring back technological tyranny. In their society, not all forms of human creativity were permissible. A society so full of hubris that it played God was unacceptable.

This social distancing horseshit is like the first twenty minutes of a really crappy apocalypse movie where you go man, this script really stinks, I’m gonna go home and watch Seinfeld reruns, but they won’t let you leave …

  2. Ko says:

IN Myanmar, for decades, it was illegal for gatherings of five people or more. This law was started by the British colonials. The Burmese dictatorship reserved it’s enforcement for political dissidents. In 2009 I used to meet with activists in forested parks, far away from populations, yet even there, because undoubtedly someone knew we were there, we had to have look outs to keep watch for any stranger approaching us. Usually, a curious guy would wonder near to see us and we’d pick up a guitar and sing, or read poetry, until the threat was gone. The police state in Burma was eyes and ears, and many impoverished people who would rat out anyone for a fee, usually a dollar. Sounds like De Blasio, right?

The law made it hard for activists to gather, to plan, to educate, and share.

In America, social distancing similarly makes it difficult to meet, share, talk about grievances, and organize. Social media overlords ban the online community bulletin boards, meet ups are nearly impossible, activism is effectively suppressed. Cars and smartphones tell the state everything they need to know to pre-arrest anyone, if need be.

There is no liberty. Liberty is gone. Freedom is gone. People cower to the state. America is dead. They get threatened to be put in jail and possibly raped.

It’s exactly as it was in Burma.

People are arrested for being outside. Even Tom Brady was hustled by police as he worked out in a park.

Last week, Burma, now Myanmar, announced the illegal gathering law was once again in effect during the five week lock down. Curiously, they are using technology as much as the human force of eyes and ears on the ground to follow people when they go shopping for food, or go anywhere, they break up gatherings of friends who happen to pass each other on the street. They are ordered to stay home.

We can’t meet, can’t speak, can’t enjoy technology. We are statistics, nothing more.

  3. So there is no hope? There is so far a Finnish smartphone maker independent of Apple and Google. And there are a few others. Their limitation seems to be that they lack Google apps. And it’s possible to simply stop watching movies on phone or TV and simply read texts, perhaps not MSM newspapers. We have been turned into children who need picture books and nothing else.

Is our chief need smugglers who can bring those alternative phones into the country?

Linux hasn’t been made illegal yet. We need the Free Software Foundation which gives us all of Linux except the kernel, and has another kernel. Basically (my offhand interpretation) they reject intellectual property, make everything of their own free in that sense, plus all open source, nothing hidden, so we can control our own security. That includes our own end-to-end encryption. There are tools for that.

At the other end we see viruses being patented.

We need to see intellectual property as a total fraud, perhaps needed a century ago but something whose validity is long passed. End patents, see anything patented as owned by a criminal so violation of patents is perfectly proper and indeed highly commendable. And go GNU.

  4. I like PCR’s consistency and sincerity but at times like these he pisses me off totally by the way he talks..rather cries. he sees a problem..maybe the problem… but then he pisses on us his raders, like a rain, a deluge of fear and hopelesness that DEPRESSES MY SOUL ALL TO HELL FUH CHRIST SAKE!!!!!!

what do we do about it Paul? do we sit and wait for it to engulf us and surrender to it..or is there a way we can fight it?

who does the digital state represent..in whose interest is it hapening…who benefits?

or is the digital state happening on its own, a consequence of technological advance on its own and humans are helpless to stop it… or is its creation representative of the interest of some social group or class?

and if so what are the opposing classes and group interests that may be more logical for humanity relative to our collective survival?

and does PCR not see that the digital state he fears, that the capitalists are building is unsustainable anyway..that any form of Brave New World is unsustainable?

what does nature itself require of humanity for humanity to continue to evolve ‘properly’..in a way(s) that maintains human long term viability in existence..of going on in nature indefinitely?

thats right! thats the question or questions. it looks like any form of indefinite, engineered capitalist domination of humanity… depopulation and robotization etc., will kill off humanity even more quickly that climate change

PCR gets onthe nerves by hie liitation on himself as an analyst! PCR must evolve as an analyst..go into the whole issue he is talking about into where it intersetcs with life as a whole. is relevant to our concerns at this point.. and see what our possibilties are..what the best possibilties of humanity are on this day in nature, and who in humanity, which group or groups represent these best interests, we can work with to advance human chances

at this point the postive in society, of humanity in nature rests with ordinary people and the working classes..and their rise to social dominace, in the only socially organized formation such can make, called democracy or socialism, at the expense of the capitalists. and such rise of the ordinary people will put an end to the digital state as feared by PCR

but does PCR see that? and if he does what does he think of democracy or socialism?

PCR may not agree with any such thing given the life long conservative he has been…or still is perhaps..which fact truncates his analysis and keeps him crying, rather than going all the way to come up with solutions and how they can be effected, even if it requires the end of capitalism?

so there we have PCR’s endless sad tears and no way out of those sad tears that are driving me crazy. I read PCR because I like the man..he has been well intentined for so long, honest etc. but it may be time to stop reading PCR..unless he breaks out of his hopeless cocoon. it is never too late

“Many have expressed concerns that coronavirus will be used, as 9/11 and the hoax’war on terror’ were, to further expand the American police state dystopia. But we were doomed by the digital revolution to a controlled existence regardless of 9/11 and Covid-19″…not unless you believe technology has a will of its own & is not controlled by those who control its deployment. At some point, technology (AI) may be capable of just such independent decisioning & turn on its creators. But even, if for now, “the digital revolution provides government and corporations with [almost] unlimited and unaccountable ability to spy and control populations” and almost “every word, deed, and movement of people can be tracked and a ‘social credit’ dossier built for them” a la China, which “already has such a system in place” (& which is so widely admired on this China-centric website) – it still requires a suitable alibi. Which is where the Wuhan plague hyperbole comes in.
Unlike totalitarian China, which has no tradition of individual freedom, the U.S. has a history of civil liberties & democracy (albeit flawed) which stretches back to our founding as a nation (& before), 250 years. Which is why, even if “the young born into the digital revoluton know no different [and] they are so taken with their electronic gadgets and indispensable apps and so content in their self-isolation in virtual reality that liberty means the ability to push buttons to call up images and entertainment”…it doesn’t necessarily mean that “liberty will not have to be taken from them.” They’re still capable of revolt at times; as sporadic protests by workers (mostly young) at tech giants like Google & Microsoft have shown. Which is why it’s all the more important to get to the bottom of the Wuhan plague scare tactics. If it can be exposed as a coordinated effort to use the fear it poses – real or imagined – to institute widespread social controls, even the young, as well as the rest of society (except for China dupes) may finally start to push back against the further expansion of the “American police state dystopia” i.e. before we becomes like communist China.

I really dislike this type of carping, quibbling comment.
“PCR must evolve as an analyst..go into the whole issue he is talking about into where it intersetcs with life as a whole.”
For gods’ sake. PCR has written a short article on the tech’ dystopia that has emerged, contra all the tech’ optimism we have been fed — stuffed with — for decades. There is nothing incorrect in the article. But it was never intended to be encyclopedic. Apparently this a fault.
And then we come to the outright dishonesty of such gratuitous insults as “endless sad tears” & his “hopeless cocoon”.
No wonder PCR got fed up with comments & wouldn’t accept them for some time.

Pithy. Well said. “Smartypants” gave me a chuckle, too.

  9. @animalogic

look here..carping, bitching etc is nutten at all.. its not easy anywhere at all and it aint carping the people must deal with. Paul is running from words, carps..people must deal with life and death all the way.

I dont see the enemies of the people taking any prisoners. fighting them on any level, anywhere is no mystery: all the marbles are on the table. if you are not prepared to trump and follow suit give it up

  10. what I am saying is that the capitalists, zionism have proved themselves long time now. we know what they are capoable of. to be their enemy to fight them means war..total and period. if you are going against hem you know what you are up against..carping and bitchng are the least of your worries

and if you are capable, skilled and can hit them, do effective work against their interest, they will know your weakness and provide antidote. so if PCR does not like irritations..irf irritability is major for him they will provide that is spades.

I think the Digital situation is utterly serious..like qualitatively so for ordinary people, may mean the difference. what can I do about about it, what can the people do?

look it does not even matter how ordianry people are..miserable, small-minded, carping..a turn off. we know why that is so. it comes down to ones own personal choice in the matter..of life what it is, it currecnt state, what is right and wrng, the consequences of existential flow and what you want of it…the choice you make.

the decision I made is that life is evolutionary and nature is its arbiter.. and humanity must be in sync with nature in order to survive in any indefinite way. we must come to know nature as we go and in so doign max out our chances..that society must be organized in the most efficient way at all times to harnes human ability to the project of winnign inedfinite survival in nature

it does not matter to me ultimately if it comes to that, who is what, who does what, betrayal, greed..all of that etc..but the truth. they way for example for humanity to flow right now is for the ordianry people to come out and revolitonize society..to eschew all parasitic social organization and creat as they go the most efficient forms of organizing to meet current general need..which would set the base for meeting long term need

only in popular social organization can all the urgent needs be addressed like global warming, the scientific work now done that has propduced an array of extinction product in labs like Coronas..end the social organization hat produces war by creating the conditions that end class differences etc

I know that all experience has proven that political parties by their parasitic nature for example, contain the counter-revolution… so I stopped looking to political parties for any progressive answer at all. my intent became to discuss political parties from that angle to destroy all potential for their continuation by developing accurate analysis and concluion about them

it does not matter to me what anyone elses thinks ultimately as long as I continue to be right in my concluions about political parties relative the whole dynamic reality… a fact for which I am responsible..not anyone else… If I decide to write and talk and come out about that issue.

as long as the discussion is postive, productive, even if I am wrong at this or that point, must change my direction, adjust etc a;ll that is fine. I am not looking to any of you for anything at all ultimately..agrrement, support., betrayal or non betrayal, ‘good’ behavior and response to what I may say or its opposite, carping, non-carping…. absolutely nutten! I have no control over you and how you are as a result of life long experience over which I had no control. why must I lookk to you for any dam thing at all

if you all were really smart to start with we would not be here currently discussing at this level. we would have dealt with the capitalists/zionists long ago.. we would have been on our way and the digitital capability that frightens us so, in the hands of the capaitalists… we have advanced into fully into a real popular democracy, digital would be in the process of discretion into the best social advantage for humanity possible at this time

I am with and for the popular interest..I am an ordinary human being and I know that the capitalist position..the zionist position cannot possibly result in anything but extinction for humanity and a whole lot of human pain along the way. that is what I know..absolutely proven. that is what all of you know too but prevaricate all the way, compromise all the way… beset by all manner of nonsense like class superiorities and racism and so on

and I do my best with the english…you all appear to understand what I say..and thats quite good enough

maybe PCR needs hands on course in how the people survive by living among them for a while..so that he can come to see that he must write anyway regardless..just go on dealing with it the best and most advaced way he can …period! regardless. he should know that a lot of the caping is deliberate calculated to upset him..by prople who are not ordinary at all but set up by powers that wish to derail his measge.

PCR should develop his message right through to their ordinary, socialist conclusion and let them rip regardless

I take where we are in concert and advance and ignore the rest. I am not dependent on anyone or anything for my conclusions, choices in life and process ultimately. I must know what is right, accurate and true about life, in concert with my interest as an ordinary human being on my own responsibility, and actualize that to the best of my ability, as I live on and through my life

carp all day if you all like..I dont care! accurate analysis of life that helps to take us all forard would be better indeed..and that i would eat all day long

Utter complete BS. In the past, government could easily tap your phone lines, read your mail, tap your associated phone lines and read their mail. Today you have the ability to encrypt all your communications so strongly that no government can penetrate them.

The problem is most people today couldn’t care less about their liberty. Most of the rest either feel powerless and are too lazy become empowered. Look at how many people willingly pay for the right to be spied on with devices like Alexa. Rather than writing another useless woe is us article expressing hopelessness and dread, if PCR was really concerned people losing liberties, he would write an article explaining why liberty is important and how to regain their liberties by using unbreakable open source encryption like gpg, open source phone operating systems like LineageOS, open source app stores like F-Droid and dark web protocols like I2P and VPN services from non five eyes countries like France and Russia.

Okay, good point about encryption being available, not like in the old days. But in the old days, it was a hassle (court order, etc) for the government to spy on just a single person. Today, the government can use digital spying to spy on the entire country; and use algorithms to do the groundwork spying, looking for “leads.”

A trope in Alfred Hitchcock movies was the innocent citizen’s fear of the police. But in those days, it meant the overly zealous detective; today it can be a dawn raid, dozens of SWAT, for an alleged paperwork error; the Mrs. Manafort chilling effect. Or being chased-down by a police boat while paddleboarding alone in the ocean.

You’ve been watching too much TV. See COINTELPRO where the FBI didn’t bother with warrants for starters. Plus, the FBI has always had its stable of judges who would grant them a warrant on the most flimsy of basis.

What is true is that it has never been easier to protect yourself than ever before. If you can post on this blog, you can protect yourself. Attend your local Linux Users Group meeting. or is the digital state happening on its own, a consequence of technological advance on its own and humans are helpless to stop it

According to the Unabomber (Industrial Society and Its Future, Theodore Kaczynski, 1995), yes, tyranny is the inevitable consequence of technological development. The answer to your question of what is to be done is then self-evident: the only revolution that will lead mankind to liberty is an anti-technological revolution. But I don’t see many modern day luddites around to make it happen. I suppose if there were any such revolutionaries around they’d still want to be linked up via their hand phones and social networks so it kind of defeats the purpose of it. If PCR paints it as bleak it is because it is bleak.
