House of Representatives resolution 1553, introduced by Congressional Republicans, and currently working its way through the system will endorse an Israeli attack on Iran, which would be going to war by proxy as the US would almost immediately be drawn into the conflict when Tehran retaliates. The resolution provides explicit US backing for Israel to bomb Iran, stating that Congress supports Israel’s use of “all means necessary…including the use of military force”. The resolution is non-binding, but it is dazzling in its disregard for the possible negative consequences that would ensue for the hundreds of thousands of US military and diplomatic personnel currently serving in the Near East region. Even the Pentagon opposes any Israeli action against Iran, knowing that it would mean instant retaliation against US forces in Iraq and also in Afghanistan. The resolution has appeared, not coincidentally, at the same time as major articles by leading neoconservatives Reuel Marc Gerecht and Bill Kristol calling for military action. AIPAC thinks it is wonderful.
Ironically, the push against Iran comes at a time when the National Intelligence Estimate on the country is being finished. It might come out as soon as August, but it will be secret and its conclusions will either be leaked or released in summary. My sources inside the intelligence community insist that it will support the 2007 NIE that concluded that Iran no longer has a weapons program. The White House has delayed the process seeking harder language to justify a range of options against Iran, including a military strike, but the analysts are reported to be resisting. So we spend $100 billion on intelligence annually and then ignore the best judgments on what is taking place. Might as well use a Ouija board.

“So we spend $100 billion on intelligence annually and then ignore the best judgments on what is taking place. Might as well use a Ouija board.”
Splendid suggestion. Not only would we save a lot of money, but, with a Ouija board, there is always the chance you could arrive at a right decision.
To quote you ” The White House has delayed the process seeking harder language to justify a range of options against Iran, including a military strike, but the analysts are reported to be resisting.” This is what you base your claim of impending war with iran on? The analysts are resisting the guy who not only commands them but who also just fired Gen McChrystal for behavior bordering on insubordination? If so, those analysts might want to analyze the civilian job market.
My sense of this President is that he has read carefully and deeply the history of the military v Jack Kennedy during the Cuban missile crisis. I think he is fully aware that there are millions upon millions of American’s, myself included, alive today because a President listened to but chose not to follow, the advice of his generals.
A couple of interesting related items:
Head of State Dept’s Iran desk John Limbert is resigning, clearly frustrated/disgusted with bombast coming out of both sides, but of course not resigning because of Iran’s bombast but instead that coming from our own people.
Money quote from Limbert: “For 30 years, careers were made both here and in Tehran by how nasty you could be to the other side and how creative you could be in being nasty to the other side.”
Nice piece noting his departure in Foreign Policy by Barbara Slavin, who also notes “[i]t’s hard not to view Limbert’s departure as a turning point and yet another missed opportunity in U.S.-Iran relations. A number of players with more skeptical views about the prospect of rapprochement with Tehran — such as White House aide Dennis Ross and nonproliferation experts like Robert Einhorn and Gary Samore — appear to be driving U.S. policy now….”

Item 2: Former U.S. ambassador to Israel Dan Kurtzer is sensing that Israel is ginning up to either attack Hezbollah in Lebanon or “lure” Hezbollah into starting something Israel would then want to finish. Can very much seem like a very good analysis by a very knowledgeable guy, explaining the steady uptick in talk about Lebanon that seems to have been coming from Israeli quarters over the last year or so. (And now reiterated very strongly, with a threat against the entire Lebanese gov’t by Ehud Barak in Monday’s Wash. Post saying all that gov’t would be “held responsible.”)
Kurtzer says he thinks Israel may well do this basically because of fear of all the rocket stocks and tech that Hezbollah’s been getting since its last go-round with Israel. Makes you wonder though if Israel isn’t measuring up Hezbollah and Lebanon knowing that it’s going to have to go in when Iran is attacked because of course that’s when Hezbollah would immediately jump in anyway.
Just a guess on my part but because of the timing and costs involved I doubt Obama has or will in the near future give a green light to an Iran attack much less agree to launch one himself, so that what Israel’s doing is getting him to go along to provide cover for them to smash Hezbollah (and Lebanon, again) as their consolation prize for right now.
Would also benefit Israel in seeing the Palestinians of course stopping any peace talks for a long time which Netanyahu obviously has had no real interest in from the get-go.
In any event for Kurtzer’s take: http://www.cfr.org/publication/22623/third_lebanon_war.html
There is always talk of how Hezbollah would jump in should Israel attack, but this is an overstated threat. Hezbollah attacks when it is attacked, not its sponsor. Furthermore, I think Tehran realizes that Hezbollah is a handy way to extend its influence into Lebanon, but Hezbollah does not have a record of doing Iran’s bidding, if it is against their interest.
@tbraton: “Splendid suggestion . Not only would we save a lot of money” – no, rest assured, as soon as Ouija board becomes government business, it will cost the same $100 billion.
“@tbraton: “Splendid suggestion . Not only would we save a lot of money” – no, rest assured, as soon as Ouija board becomes government business, it will cost the same $100 billion.”
Well, I can see that my level of cynicism has not reached the outer limits achieved by some posters on this blog. Apparently, you never heard of “outsourcing.” Hasn’t that saved us billions in Iraq and Afghanistan? Couldn’t we outsource the manufacture of that crucial Ouija board? Why, $100 billion is the cost of roughly 25 Nimitz class aircraft carriers. Surely, we can find an Asian country with low labor costs that can manufacture that Ouija board for, say, $50 billion, which would represent a 50% cost savings. That savings could be applied to Obamacare and further reduce the cost of healthcare to Americans.
Btw you fail to touch on the second benefit of a Ouija board: the chance that it might make the right decision. Now some may argue that use of a Ouija board would represent an illegal and unjustified intrusion into executive decision-making authority, but I feel that the possibility of making a right decision, coupled with a possible cost savings in the billions of dollars, represents an opportunity too good to pass up.
I suggest that we prepare now to gather at least 500,000 people to appear in Washington, DC on June 8, 2011 (the anniversary of Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 American soldiers and wounded 174) to demand that the treasonous pro-Israel politicians and others be punished and banned from serving in any branch of government. These chicken hawks and Zionist bastards will never stop sacrificing others for the greater good of Israel. Talk is cheap and too damn plentiful. Let’s get in their faces now!
Thank God/dess there’s a Fred Shepard alive and writing! This is a truly splendid idea, as it is a peaceful and democratic way to express what We, the people, believe and want, even if our corrupt and treasonous politicos do not.
Of course, the FBI and several military intelligence operations would create a black ops or three to distract and detract, but we can warn of these agents provocateurs beforehand, and take away their effectiveness.
I just need to say this to all that think we need to back up Israel. We need to revisit the idea of mutually asured distruction. The countries that have nukes and the systems to deliver them seem to not bother their enemies, WHY? Because if they go to a hot war. The ramafications would be cutting their own heads off. Iran has had nukes given to them by Russia. (Look this up, and you will see a russian general state that Russia has supplied Iran with nukes). If Iran was that unstable (ignorant), they would have been taken off the map a very long time ago. The intelligent people advise against war. I guarantee that if all sides would back away and charm Iran with good economic trade. It would better for the entire area. You get more bees with honey than you get with Vinegar. Iran is not playing nice with the world elite. So whether or not they have the bomb or not, is not the issue here. It’s whether they sign away their Sovereignty to the UN or not.
At least with a Ouija board you might get possessed by an evil demon. It would be a step up for a lot of our leaders.
http://sites.google.com/site/pointprophetic/world-war-3-nuclear-war-israel-iran-syria
The point I’m trying to make is that you need to understand Iran’s thinking and it’s beliefs as well as Israel’s well founded fears. Iran believes they must destroy Israel, even if the rest of the world thinks it’s crazy Iran does not. Iran’s twelver’s and Ahmadinejad would sacrifice their entire country and its entire population in order to destroy Israel and fulfill the so called Imam prophecies. Benjamin Netanyahu knows this absolutely and he will have no choice when Iran gets ready to cross that nuclear line. The world may gamble foolishly from ignorance thinking Iran and Israel will blink but neither of them will.
When forced into a corner rest assured Israel will destroy every target in Iran or Syria she needs to with nuclear weapons. Israel will then hope faintly that the world will let her survive. But Israel will not put much stock in that hope and they will be prepared to attack any country, including Russia, China and even the United States if they force her to, and yes of course they will. Russia and China and many of their naval fleets in range will then be hit with Nuclear weapons, including America’s fleet. American troops in Iraq would be hit and then the Saudi oil fields. It would take less than 60 minutes for the whole thing. Israel of course would be destroyed but the whole world will have wished they paid attention sooner.
World economic collapse due to the destruction of oil production capacity would follow, then the massive closing of factories. The gas shortages then would destroy the ability to deliver food by either truck, air or rail. Also the tax base will collapse, massive unemployment due to massive sell off on wall street. The upheaval in China will occur for the same reasons, people revolting and begin revolutions due to food shortages. Millions dead in China, Russia as well as most American troops in Iraq. If it escalates further after the strike by Israel, then after Russia or China has destroyed Israel they might attack America with nuclear weapons, especially if most of our troops and part of our naval fleet were destroyed by Israeli nukes. If you do two well placed emp attacks before the regular nukes or invasion, then an attack on America could be possible. Then world war 3 will be in full bloom and it will destroy what is left of the world. Israel will not remain America’s ally if pushed into a corner, she could however become America’s 3rd worst enemy in history.
Scary stuff but understand this is not a movie script, though I wish someone would make one using this as a guide. If they did it well then this movie might wake up the sleeping inside the UN, and then shake them back into reality. This is the real reality and it could happen and I mean very soon. One miscalculation on Iran’s real intentions, or Israel’s response will cause this reality to happen. If Russia, China, and America go to the Casino without helping Israel using their conventional weapons to stop Iran then the whole world is screwed.
I say stay out of their business and let them handle their own problems.
It’s about time the United States quits being big brother to every country with power and religious problems.
Enough Americans have died trying to fix problems that won’t go away.
It will be hard for the US not to be involved if israel decides to muck up the middle east again. Look where our love affair with Israel has led the nation. There are a record number of pro-israeli supporters in government, many of US security firms are israeli, and many many duel israeli citizens are currently in the State Department and Department of Defense. Many more are setting foreign policy in Think Tanks.
The US is now occupied by an apartheid nation smaller than the state of New Jersey with no resources or strategic value.
Went I had beoinged to a church years ago, a pastor once said,” If God be on your side, then who can be against you.” Israel has survived many attacks since 1948 and will survive again from anything the world will bring against it. She maybe severely damaged, but rest assure, God will keep his promises to Israel and will be a nation for ever.
As a student of history, reading of an empire’s fall has always kept me on the edge of my seat. Now, as I watch our leaders drift further and further from the people who are this country, I’ll soon be able to see an empire’s collapse in real time.
Israel will false flag somebody to re-inflame US animosity towards Arabs, Muslim, Persians, Iran or whatever is in competition with Israel and it’s associates.
They might even false flag a Cafe or Public place in Israel
“If Russia, China, and America go to the Casino without helping Israel using their conventional weapons to stop Iran then the whole world is screwed.”
In case you haven’t noticed, Mr. “Scott” is an Israeli Hasbara troll. The scenario he describes is part of the paranoid and psychotic “Samson Option” concocted by Zionist lunatics to intimidate the world. Unfortunately, the result he envisions in his scenario wouldn’t be World War 3. It would instead be the death warrant for not only Israel but probably for most of the remaining Jews around the world as well.
John Scott, thank you for your scenario. It is possible. I would gently suggest, as to your first line, that perhaps you do not understand Iran’s thinking.
For 6 years we’ve been subjected to mutual saber-rattling, and the pattern is becoming familiar. We’re all kept on the edge of our seats (including me) expecting an imminent attack.
GG: There is no tangible reason to support Israel other than the fact that we like them. This is not a bad thing, but one that needs to be admitted.
TomB: Very insightful comments. I would suggest that Israel would not be sizing up Lebanon without sizing up Syria first. Let me explain why.
Suppose that behind the din of US-Israel-Iran saber-rattling, there are other things planned that actually do advantage all the parties involved. The US needs a war soon. Russia is suddenly cozy with our military plans.
http://www.rense.com/general91/rues.htm
Israel need another way to expand besides starving Palestinians to death, as this is becoming too unpopular for even them. Russia wants free from all the Mexican standoffs around its borders. Europe would like to take the focus off its financial woes, and fast. Nobody involved wants China to get more powerful than it already is. An attack on Iran would exacerbate all these problems… but…
If Russia removed its support from Syria as a concession to its willingness to work with NATO, suddenly there is no reason in the world not to attack them except for Turkey, who has only begun to be friendly with the (a front, imo) in the last two years. Normally they’re bitter enemies. Turkey would likely relent, which gives Israel a bright green light to kill two birds with one stone, Syria and Lebanon.
Meanwhile, according to Clinton’s recent behaviour, it seems that we’re poised to betray Pakistan’s gracious gestures, and turn on them under the guise of “terrorism”. Our army is already there, and India would be cheering us on the whole way. This would break a major Middle East tie with China, and establish de facto hegemony in the whole theater, with exception of Iran.
With the new Russia-US relations, the tug-of-war in the Caspian Basin would be over, and the pies would be divided up rather than being thrown in each others faces. Georgia would likely be sacrificed.
Russia is willing to play this game for now, but she isn’t dumb. She’ll hold the winning cards tightly to her chest. The US, on the other hand, is dumb. Unless, of course, we can afford that Ouija Board.
As things stand now, I see an imminent attack on Syria and Pakistan. Look for some new CIA terrorist attacks.
Just thoughts.
Iran’s president Armadinijad says precise intel shows Israel attacking 2 countries soon to intimidate Iran, probably Syria and Lebanon. We should listen carefully to him, he usually tells the truth. If you want lies and deception just listen to what Israel says.
Vote for Tom tancredo for Colorado Govornor. say No to greedy old white republicans who hire illegal mexicans and NO to democrate liberal that want a free lunch.
Who Voted for War, Mr. Obama?
At the time when US needs money (come-out of financial crisis), why would it be in interested to go for WAR, even if it has 10% legitimacy case ?
Unless US is being pressured or insured by some other country to go for WAR on their behalf (how smart) ?
Please “enough of WARS”, now US does not require war till we recover for financial crisis. US has to now adjust/tune its wave-length and hook-off from past actions/allegiances that has only yielded BIG HOLE IN “ECONOMY and PROSPERITY” OF US CITIZENS.
Now, look how smart UK (David Cameron) is, it has already covertly started to appease INDIA to buy ARMS for next big WAR with CHINA and PAKASTAN. INDIA has big pocket now to keep buying ARMS, if you know what UK talking?
‘When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.’ Thomas Jefferson
REVOLUTION is the Solution!!!
‘God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms…. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.’ – Thomas Jefferson, in letter to William S. Smith, 1787
John Scott, rarely do I sink to the level of merely calling somebody an idiot, preferring to deal with points made when they are, however stupid and empty. However your efforts were wasted. Pure fairy tale rubbish not worth reading let alone responding to in detail. It was like some child earnestly explaining why Goldilocks had to lay on all three beds, whilst seeming oblivious to the fact it is just a fairy tale.
You’re an idiot, and really shouldn’t bother. Bulldust doesn’t gather validity just because you keep on repeating it.
Neither Iran nor its leaders have expressed any primary threat to anybody, that is an unimpeachable fact, not altered by millions of claims to the contrary in streams of articles from the usual suspects. As a nation and as a government they have not only shown more moral and intelligent and peaceful dealings with others they also seem to have considerably more competent diplomatic skills.
Thems the facts bozo and you truly are a moron to have written your little bundle of hasbara rubbish.
wtf is so important about Iran to risk a world war? They find anti-matter there or something and want to make a warp drive? The idea that Iran will attack Israel is stupid, That’s right it’s plain stupid. Iran has never said they would. They aren’t about to cross Iraq to march on Jerusalem. It is completely a RETARDED PREMISE. They are down wind from any nuclear strike (assuming they had nukes) which will also annihilate the Palestinians and poison Saudi oil with radiation. I mean WTF how stupid do they think we are!?!?!? That last time Iran invaded something was like Darius or Xerxes.
John Scott, wouldn’t we first need to see a conversion of all Jews to Christianity, or am I getting the end-of-days theories all mixed up?
BTW I remember Dick Cheney stating with a straight face (and unchallenged by the MSM) that, if Saddam Hussein acquired a nuclear weapon in the morning, he would use it by that afternoon (presumably against Israel, although Cheney did not make it clear). Once we invaded Iraq, not only did we not find any WMDs, but we only discovered six months after the invasion the presumably suicidal Mr. Hussen, lice-ridden and wearing a scraggly beard, hiding in a spider-hole.
I think this attribution of suicidal tendencies to our “enemies” derives from the continual fallacious analogies of our “enemies” to Hitler or Hitlerian Germany. We did it with Saddam Hussein in connection with Gulf War I. I happen to live in Forida, and I have seen a TV commercial running several times which starts with old footage from the 30’s featuring Hitler, the Nazis and WWII and ends with the message “Mr. President, Stop Iran Now.” Your message is part of the scare tactics used to convince Americans that Iran represents the same threat to the world as Hitler’s Germny, the same way Cheney tried to scare the U.S.about Saddam Hussein’s danger to America.
As i am currently serving our country (usaf) in the middle east region. the larger picture is what i must focus on.
Israel is one of our allies, it is our duty to defend her. period, the current regime in Iran is threatening Israel . the larger picture here is not the us , Israel is the key piece to gods plan. I dont worry about my future it is in gods hands, Israel will survive because god said it would , look up jesus is coming soon.Gog and megog translate to russia and prussia that will attack israel. it will happen and Israel and our lord in heaven will prevail
Our support for Israel is clearly working against us as many top US strategists and leaders have already dared to point out..if the US was about truth and freedom we would have censured Israel for her conduct already. Iran does not have the capability to to destroy Israel but they do despise the racist, Zionist ideology which maintains the fiction of God loving Jews more than the Goyim. Iran knows it would be destroyed utterly if it nuked Israel and it has given NO indication it would rather go down in flames along with Israel. The US has been wanting to make war and control central Asia for many years. This is all part of a long term plan that the neo-cons support . Many Europeans, unlike brainwashed Americans know that our own imperialistic designs on the region are the true threats to world peace. A full scale war would be a disaster for the US and may trigger Armageddon. But, wait, isn’t that what the loony Christian fundamentalists want? uh-ohhh!
US intellegence did not see the collapse of the Soviet Union coming. The CIA was surprised when the USSR died. It is not an agency united in a common goal of protecting the US safety and interests; rather it is infiltrated with a host of political and foreign policy activists. They are like our reporters when it comes to delivering facts or truth.
Our intellegence, like the rest of our government, is not so much.

Peter B Collins debriefs ex-CIA agent Philip Giraldi on defecting Iranian nuke scientist. Giraldi, who writes for antiwar.com and the American Conservative, says that Iranian scientist Shahram Amiri told US intelligence that Iran has no active nuclear weapons program and he’s not a double agent.
http://edwardrynearson.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/peter-b-collins-philip-giraldi/
There is not going to be a war. It is just psy-op against Iranian leaders to scare them into giving up their recent victories and so far Iranian leaders seem to be as greedy and mean as a male lion with his foot over a buffalo carcass.
Well, there is no possibility to sanction Iran with or without the help of Russians/Chinese. I think USA wants to blame its failure on Iran policy on others through such accusations. The truth is China and Russian do not hold much sway over Iran at all. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iar_1OKOmc&feature=related ) The problem is, USA can not stop Iran’s nuclear program just by bombing it from the air as has been indicated by department of defense. The reason for that is Iran is not Iraq or for that matter a back ward country. It worked with Iraq because Iraqis did not have an industrial base and scientists capable of indigenous scientific research. When Israel bombed Iraqi reactor, basically French pulled out of Iraq and that is why it was successful. Iraq could not build even a screw and had to import even assault rifles, so any thing bombed out as long as Iraq could not buy a replacement for it in international markets, was considered gone forever.
The problem with Iran is that they have a large population that is young and educated. Infact Iran’s population is twice that of Iraq and Afghanistan combined, just as their land is twice as big as Iraq and Afghanistan combined. You can not bomb every thing in Iran since we do not know their exact locations as intel is bad from Iran ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3wYJAPheF8 ). Also Iran has a large pool of engineers and scientists constantly at work. Actually Iran has the world’s fastest growth rate in science and technology ( http://www.science-metrix.com/30years-Paper.pdf ). That alone provides Iran with redundancy and multiple backup options for every kind of attack and sanctions. There are basically two different sanctions that work. Sanctions that prohibit a country’s access to minerals, raw material and energy which is basically meaningless for Iran since Iran is one of the 10 most minerally rich and energy rich country of the world ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_rankings_of_Iran#Energy ). They can live for centuries without any access to world markets. The other sanction prohibits a nation’s access to technological products. Again Iran with its massive investment in education for the past 3 decades has already reached a self sustaining science and technology generation level that would make it possible for Iranian leaders to counter sanctions in long turn. Any product which is not made in Iran can be sanctioned for a few months or even for a couple of years but Iran has reached the technological level to research or reverse engineer the sanctioned product within months to a year max. And they are smart too ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statistically_superlative_countries ). For example with gasoline sanctions which have not even yet taken effect, Iran has started an ambitious research and development program into refining technologies all the while converting its car fleets to CNG instead of gasoline. That has made Iran to have the world’s fastest growing market for NGV’s.
All this leaves USA only with one option and that is invading Iran. But with current state of affair in US military and economic affairs and the failure of US military in Afghanistan and Iraq, things do not look that great on that front either. Iran is much larger and much more scientifically superior than those countries. Their level of capabilities and sphere of influence across the middle east as well as among all the Shia’s in the world make their power projection much broader than what US military is designed to cope with. Furthermore, any attack on Iran will mean massive damage to oil infra structure of Persian Gulf states since Iran has access to tens of thousands of ballistic missiles ready to go something Iraq or Afghanistan never had. In the aftermath of destruction of oil fields and facilities such as the vulnerable LNG facilities of Qatar, the energy prices will shoot up to perhaps unthinkable level of thousand dollar a barrel. Iranian mullahs know that their fate is not going to better than Saddam if Tehran falls so they would not go down alone, they would take with themselves half of the world’s oil and gas fields ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeY05iS5iv0 ). With current economic crisis and unpopularity of war in western countries, this would mean riots on streets of Europe and USA causing a threat to the current political order in the west. Still, there are other consequences, right now American military presence in Iraq or Afghanistan has alienated only the Sunni’s and Shia’s who are even more dedicated to their cause have kept peaceful. With attack on Iran the only Shia country in the world which is regarded by all Shia’s as their center, something like what Israel is for Jews, Shia’s all over the world will become radicalized against western countries. Also not to forget that Afghanistan is producing 93% of the world’s illicit drugs amounting tomore than 100 billion dollars according to UN, most of these drugs would end up in Turkey and eventually Europe in such huge quantities that is enough to keep all Europeans on the dope ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium_production_in_Afghanistan ) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yuWGuywH5s&feature=related ). Right now it is not happening because there is an effective government in Iran which is stopping the shipments. Infact UN has applauded Iran on its drug interdiction programs, as Iranian police captures more opium and heroine in the world than the rest of the world combined. After Iranian invasion and since USA does not have enough troops to pacify Iranian resistance which is going to be even bigger than any USA has ever seen since Iranians are highly nationalist people, will make an invasion a failure too. Even if USA opts to nuke Iran out right, at the end USA will lose, since Iran will definitely become nuclear after that, not only Iran but all nations in the world will get the wrong lesson that they should go nuclear too because the use of nukes would be a shock for international politics and all governments will start feeling insecure. Imagine what kind of world that is going to be. After that USA is going to become highly un-popular and besides USA can not fight the whole world’s wish if they want to become nuclear.
So what is the solution: only one solution USA has. Come to term with Iran. The more late USA does it, they are going to pay a higher price. If USA had come to some agreement with Iran in 2003, it had to pay a much lower price to Iranians than today. And a few years later the Iranian price might go so up that even USA might not be able to afford it. As the price of Iranians is going up exponentially. And by price I do not mean aid or foreign investment or trade. Iranians are not interested in that. They are highly nationalist and proud people who believe that they are special. By price I mean the sphere of influence, they want their own little empire. While in 2003, Iran might have been happy to have as its satellites just Syria and Lebanon, today that has widened to include Iraq and Persian Gulf. USA should accept it right now and cut its losses and stopping Iranian ambitions. Tomorrow Iran will demand much higher a price which might even include the whole of middle east and central Asia. Obama should not make the mistake of trying to belittle Iranians and containing them without direct negotiations since Iranians are going to get very humiliate and will redouble their efforts to push the boundaries of their empire. Iran’s trick in success has not been its fanaticism but its huge investment in science and technology couple with a solid unique national religious identity which is attracting huge masses of Muslims as well disaffected anti-corporation westerners. Such kind of determined people and their leaders can not be stopped by empty threats and even invasions. Quite simply Iranians have played a very smart game, they have made any American ” options on the table” so expensive that they know USA will never use those options as it would mean the end of USA as we know it today. Obama should stop arming anti-Iran groups like Jundalla and stop supporting the meaningless and now dead green movement which had been born on life support machine and would have never succeeded like the other color revolutions as Iran on the contrary has a solid plan and global ambitions unlike Georgia or countries like Georgia. The reason why Obama should not do it is because it will make any negotiation with Iran all more difficult. Obama should instead invite Ahmadinejad to a neutral third country for example Switzerland and hold direct discussions with him with followup discussions in Tehran and Washington, much the same way USA did with communist China. USA should not allow its long term survival and security be affected by Israel. That would be a mistake if USA put Israel before America. And Israelis should know that being a small country they are no match for Iran and they should put USA before themselves since without USA they are nothing. That is the reality. Their situation is pretty much that of Taiwan. Israel should give up its nukes and settle for a nuke free middle east, in return for American protection, just like the arrangement between China, Taiwan and USA. Peace for the world. Iran can not be contained by these gimmicks any longer. Iran is a rising power and should be respected as such. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6_e5OyrqUM ) ( http://www.campaigniran.org/casmii/index.php?q=node/9757 )
As background, I’m a decorated U.S. Army light infantry combat vet and Christian. Another hasbara troll — Dean Trone — belches flatulence. He gives himself away with the peculiar reference to “Prussia” and the misspelling of Magog. If Trone is indeed in the U.S.A.F., which I don’t believe, then he is a traitor to the Constitution that he swore allegiance to if he believes Israel comes first above America. He also seems to be unaware that on a number of occasions in the New Testament, Jesus repeated God’s banishment of unrepentant Jews from the Holy Land until the time of the Second Coming. I also suggest that this guy read Galations 3:26 to find out how Jesus defined Israel through the Apostle Paul. Clue: it ain’t a piece of real estate. Another clue: Jesus said to Pontius Pilate that his kingdom was not of this earth. Sorry to spout religion in this space, but this guy Trone needs to dust off his copy of the New Testament (if he has one) and read it.
Dean trone wrote: “Israel is one of our allies,”
Your first duty is to fully educate yourself. Start by disabusing yourself of the fiction that Israel is an ally.
Israel is NOT an ally. She cannot be an ally without first defining her borders, and that she refuses to do. I wonder why?
See: http://original.antiwar.com/giraldi/2010/05/26/the-strategic-ally-myth/
I looked this bill up in Congress and it says it is the Mutual Association Preservation Act, Sponsored by Democrat Gary Ackerman from New York. Can you please clarify..
House of Representatives resolution 1553, introduced by Congressional Republicans,
Droid Diva- There is an HR 1553 almost every year. You have to find the HR 1553 for 2010.
Smith Wardok, thank you for taking the time to lay out that picture of Iran. It is informative, comprehensive, and brilliant. With your permission, I’d like to quote it in it’s entirety to some friends.
As to the “Christian” dialogue, its often better to pat a zealot on the head and move on; interminable debates take up a lot of space, and as we have seen, invite the trolls.
War on Iran is an appalling idea. Americans were duped into the first Gulf War started as a get-rich-quick charlatan evangelical man stood beside him – then Bush, Sr. declared that God told him to do it. Oh? He was wired as to exactly how did he receive that message? No answer. As a former CIA head, he’s about as religious as a flea.
@ducq,
Thank you for taking note of it. Since the media is so biased I have researched and written this piece to help others. It is not really much, I have not even bothered to clean up errors of grammar and spells in it but I post them anywhere I can so that people know the other side of the story too. And ofcourse you can quote it as much as you like. That is why I have written it. So that we can be free from corporate media. Have fun, and since it is a no profit piece, feel free to improve it. Also I recommend a small book about Iran which is a good sensational read, since it is written by CIA spy. Certainly no less than a spy novel. “The devil we know” by Robert Baer. Take care now.
A recent poll in Pakistan reveals that 60% of the population considers the U.S. an enemy. We go through this absurd theater, telling their government that they must crack down, but the reality is their own people don’t support that.
We are not doing that well in Afghanistan or Iraq, when will we learn?
A lot of people reading this did not live in 1945. Then the trials in Nuernberg, Germany, the (in)famous war crimes trials were held. At the end Generals etc were hanged for attacking and invading countries. What happened since?? Why was it a crime then and not now, when the US of A and Israel are doing it?
It’s actually pretty simple to understand.
Obama is losing popularity fast.
The Dems may lose big in the upcoming mid terms.
If you wanna wage war, do it when you have a majority Senate and Congress.
Waging war also distracts the people from domestic problems eg. oil spill, economic problems, and if handled right usually boosts your popularity.
He will do what is politically expedient.
I make mil spec Ouija boards; they are $1.1 million each, but a recent necessary upgrade from plastic to battle grade materials will push the price higher. If fitted and optioned with my new reverse ethereal look up finder, the price does rise but to a still modest $3.7 million each; this however does not include batteries.
“October Surprise”…….it happened before (just before November elections) to keep a congress in power. It could happen again….as the drums of war continue to get louder.
Being a human being, i can not support Mr. obama, perhaps I respects both Mr. obama as well as the President of IRAN.
For the past 65 years, America is hungry for oil and dominating,
they have only bombed japan, even now they are only threatening
Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Syria, wherein America should give up relation
with ISRAEL, all the the problems will be solved.
Other wise let Israel face the problem with iran etc. why America
should intervene

This could be like all the other resolutions for AIPAC. The signers get a lot of political contributions from AIPAC supporters. It is really the AIPAC supporters who are getting played here. President Bush spoke the AIPAC line but when it came down to delivering, he did not give Israel the bunker busting bombs that they wanted, much to his VP’s displeasure. It is unlikely that Obama is going to get the American military into another war. The military already has a handful. North Korea and China would take advantage of any war with Iran to do mischief in their backyard. The countries who rely on Persian Gulf oil would be very upset with a war. Israel would also pay a fearful price. War would be bad for business in Israel. The whole thing (Cong. Resolution)appears as a joke to some.
@Smith Wordok, I dislike quoting without credits. I will use “Smith Wordok” unless you indicate otherwise. A work is in progress entitled “The Rise of the Persian Empire”, for which your comments are invaluable; the intended scope covers millennia of history.
One inescapable conclusion is sitting in front of our faces: To base geopolitical understanding on a mere 100 years of history is to be myopic to the point of self-destruction. I doubt that Iran will make that kind of mistake, but we Americans can barely hold on to a political idea for 20 days (the fade-out period for headline attention.)
I agree with the tenor of your comments that Iran cannot be invaded by conventional means, and unconventional ones open up a Pandora’s box which likely is being saved for something bigger. Yet beyond the pale of the saber-rattling, a larger issue emerges: What, if left alone, will Iran become? That is the focus of my current work, for which if you have thoughts, send them on to [email protected]. Iran appears ‘destined’ by the depth of her history, not to mention her self- and outside- imposed isolation, to become a major player in the next decade.

Simply put, stay at home and mind your own buisness, Intelligence starts at home.
Peace be with you .

It is common knowledge in Quebec media that Iran has mastered “all aspects” of nuke technology. Take note, this technology is now 60 years old. All know that any country that wants a nuke can build one in just a few months. Guess what? All this about Nukes in Iran is some kind of diversion to cover for the eventual alliance between Israel and Iran. Remmember, they have been allies since the 1950s against the Brits.
A Persian/Jew mid east in a drole accommodation with Chavez and his “liberation theology” in control of South and Central America, seems to be a surprise model for a new world order coming soon. All you media cats that have been beating up on the Vatican had better brush up on your Rosary. You are going to need lots of absolution. Thanks RDuane Willing
Lickster, after your comment, lickster is an appropriate nname for you, you must be one of our congressmen using a non de plume. We have been licksteribg to israel long enough, let them stand on their own two feet.
