It is perhaps inevitable that a major health panic like the coronavirus will have political ramifications based on whether those most affected by the illness will perceive that the government performed well or poorly in the crisis. The government for its part will engage in a blame game which seeks to place responsibility for what did not go well on an outside party. It should surprise no one to learn, for example, that Hindus in India have been blaming a Muslim group for the proliferation of the virus in their country, an accusation that has led to rioting and other violence directed against Muslims in general and which has produced some deaths.

In the United States blame for the health crisis has been more diversified and has been largely construed along existing political fault lines. Democrats are reasonably enough blaming President Donald Trump for the delays and failures to supply medical equipment while Republicans are seeking to exonerate the poor performance by the president, chiefly by editing the existing record to expunge Trump’s initial dismissal of the virus as little more than a common cold and even as a “hoax.” That refusal to recognize the severity of the epidemic cost the country several weeks at a minimum, time that might have been employed to get on top of the disease before it had a chance to gain a foothold.

More interesting perhaps is the apparent desire to find a foreign enemy as the source of the virus. That the virus originated in Wuhan is the majority view of the “experts,” though it is not clear if its genetics were the result of laboratory manipulation or were a naturally occurring mutation. And for its part, the Chinese government at a minimum was not particularly forthcoming when the virus began to spread in Wuhan and the surrounding province, failing to send an appropriate signal to the international community that a potentially highly contagious and lethal new virus had made an appearance.

In the U.S., Republican politicians and pundits, as well as the president, have exploited the uncertainty by persisting in calling the coronavirus the “Wuhan virus” or the “China virus.” There has also been considerable chatter about how Beijing is “to blame” for it, which, of course, intentionally shifts the narrative away from the actions or lack thereof by the American president. And so as not to ignore the real conspiracy theorists, there are also the stories now circulating about how the U.S. government helped fund research at the Wuhan Institute that involved bats, one of the possible sources of the virus. Additional theories being promoted by Rush Limbaugh and others promote the belief that the Chinese communists deliberately created and unleashed the virus to destroy western capitalism.

It was perhaps inevitable that somehow Russia would eventually be brought into the preferred narrative to serve as a distraction that would derail the media’s 24/7 focus on the White House and its developing response to the virus. The Russian government’s shipment of a planeload of badly needed medical supplies to the United States several weeks ago notwithstanding, Moscow and President Vladimir Putin continue to be useful punching bags for both the national media and both parties in congress.

The latest tale from Yahoo news of Kremlin perfidy is also somewhat of a spy story, no doubt intended to enhance its appeal. It has not really caught on with the public yet because the panic over the virus has overwhelmed the news cycle, but there is still plenty of time to seek and find a foreign enemy who is wanting to do harm to the United States of America.

According to the news report, which is based on a paper prepared by analysts at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Russian intelligence officers are analyzing the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic to determine vulnerabilities in the American government’s procurement and emergency response system. The April 6th study, prepared by the DHS Counterintelligence Mission Center, states that the Russians are “likely are watching the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic” as “intelligence collection on medical supply chain vulnerabilities could inform future operations aimed at weakening key logistical elements in preparation for a wartime attack, or opportunistically during an emergency.”

In other words, Moscow is looking for vulnerabilities in what amounts to America’s civil defense response capability in case it has to go to war with Washington. Given the lack of evidence confirming any desire on Vladimir Putin’s part to engage in a nuclear conflict with the United States that would likely destroy most of the planet, it is difficult to imagine that Russia is war planning in any serious way. But, according to some sources, a different picture does plausibly emerge from the Kremlin’s activity, which is that Russia is working to portray itself as a competent player in the war against the coronavirus while Donald Trump and his European counterparts are being seen as irresponsible fumblers.

Moscow has indeed been extending a hand to Europeans even as the Germans have been complaining about the White House conniving to steal their medical supplies. Several plane loads of medical equipment and more than 100 personnel flew to Italy a month ago. According to Italian sources, some of the Russians were intelligence officers making independent assessments of how effectively the Italians have been able to respond to the medical crisis.

All of that should surprise no one, as that is what intelligence officers do, though it does not necessarily mean that anyone is necessarily preparing for war. And the DHS report speculates wildly when it suggests that the coronavirus operation is part and parcel of “Russia’s ongoing 2020 election interference,” a largely undemonstrated hot button designed to make the hawks in congress swoon with pleasure.

If anyone is looking for Russiagate 2, this is exactly how it begins. Blame China, and if that does not seem to be working, look for the perfidious hand of Vladimir Putin, who clearly spends all day in his office dreaming up schemes whereby providing medical supplies to the U.S. and Europe is all part of some master plan to subvert the 2020 presidential election. But wait a minute, the ballot will feature Trump against Joe Biden. Putin is too late. The election has already been subverted.

At this point I have to wonder about how many people are left out there who give credence to anything coming from the mass media these days? Or perhaps it’s like PT Barnum said about a sucker being born every minute?

Then came 9/11, the anthrax scare, and the creation of a national network of so-called biodefense centers. [Ian[ Lipkin ran the one in New York.

Talking about researchers in Wuhan Ian Lipkin said. “On December 31st, researchers there identified it as a coronavirus but said, ‘It’s not highly transmissible’”. An interview with Lipkin on March 28th after he came back from China having contracted the virus here. Two previous novel coronaviruses had arisen SARS and MERS which have mortality around 10%, but very limited transmissibility; SARS did nothing like what was feared, and the Chinese appeared to have assumed COVID-19 was the same. By the 24th of January the WHO said “it is very clear right now that we have no sustained human-to-human transmission”. The number of infections they had in Wuhan ought to have made it very obvious (maybe it did) that this was a disease spreading easily from person to person. As Ian Lipkin (advisor on the film Contagion) said about the misleading information that China provided to him and other international experts including the WHO, we will never find out what the Chinese knew and when. As late as the the 24th of January, Doctor Fauci gave a briefing for senators in which he said there was very little danger to the US from the Wuhan disease. Later that day he repeated that opinion at a press conference.

The original COVID-19 pathogen was Type ‘S’, and it is mild. The newer Type ‘L’, which is much more specialised to infect humans and much more lethal, arose in China, but now exists solely in the West. Police state China seems remarkably efficient, except when it comes to discharging their responsibilities to the rest of the world. In China there are gigantic detention centres where people are crowded like battery hens, making specialization of the COVID-19 pathogen far from improbable. An amped up second wave of COVID-19 in October coming from those concentration camps and killing young people throughout the world would be no surprise to Professor Paul Ewald

COVID-19 may evolve greater virulence by circulating in a population of people kept in close, unhygienic quarters, such as the estimated one million Uighur Muslims being held in detention camps in Xinjiang, north-west China

The record shows that China might be trusted to try their utmost to deal with it in their own country. But they cannot be trusted to stop it getting into the West and wreaking havoc. Hopefully, China will pay attention to the demand for them to fulfill their obligations to the rest of the world over their various novel-disease-waiting-to happen institutions (concentration camps, wet markets) and institute preventative hygienic measures. The creation of a super virulent second wave as there was in 1918 would be a disaster for everyone, including China They must be told a second failure to fulfil their obligations will result in them being held to account. Another bio-error will be taken as bio-terror.

  7. From inception DHS naturally served as a dumping ground for all the stupidest drones in its predecessor agencies; but I really think they must vet with a Hartford PD type IQ cutoff. I’m guessing the cutoff is 88. DHS employees are some of the stupidest fucking assholes I have ever met, and that includes Special Olympics also-rans.

CIA famously corrupted and perverted the Bureau of Narcotics, but DHS makes that hapless Bureau look like Spetsnaz. Who deputized these shitheads as junior spy cadets? Their sole identifiable purpose is to give CIA control over domestic Phùng hoàng centers. You spooks deride it as white man’s welfare, but for the upper echelons it gives CIA control over furious mindless assholes who live to push citizens around.

Give these DHS mental defectives some gimme caps like the ones you passed out in Iraq, and put them out of their misery.

  8. Geez, just as I was getting used to Russia, Russia, Russia, being replaced by China, China China, it’s back to Russia, Russia, Russia.

Were the Chinese forthcoming? Almost certainly not. On the other hand, what government has been? They’ve all been lying through their teeth about this virus. It’s morbidity rate has been statistically shown to be about the same as regular flu. As for infection rates, the massively increased testing has shown massively increased numbers of people infected. What it doesn’t show is a significant increase in the rate of people being symptomatic.

Where I live, they have just announced a 5th death due to Covid-19 since the beginning of March. From the end of September to Feb 1 there were 15 deaths from the regular flu. That is the same rate as Covid-19. The key is due to Covid-19 not with Covid-19. We all have contracted viruses for which we are asymptomatic, likely in the hundreds over a lifetime. Some viruses, like Herpes, express themselves in many ways. Sometimes they return causing different problems. It is accepted that chicken pox can come back as shingles, but told to panic when a flu virus may come in a second wave. This is insanity.
It’s a normal condition for viruses to come back. People with weakened immune systems are always more at risk. Many people have a weak immune system without having underlying medical conditions.

    – The violations of the international human rights treaty regime, including ICCPR, ICESCR and
    CRC
    – The consequences of maintaining sanctions regimes
    – The civil and penal liability of States and politicians directly involved in the imposition and
    implementation of the sanctions.

[…] “many in the US, Canada and the EU do recognise that sanctions are illegal and criminal, but they also know that it is difficult to stop a moving train, and thus US, UK and European leaders have developed a kind of internal solidarity – the same kind of solidarity that criminal cartels like the Mafia observe among themselves. And yet what is needed is a recognition that in the modern world “unilateralism” is no longer acceptable. That in the light of the pandemic, only international solidarity and cooperation among States can slow down and eventually defeat the common enemy.

With regard to the pandemic: would lifting the sanctions on medicines and medical equipment be sufficient as a first step? What is the overall importance of sanctions for a country affected by the pandemic?”

It’s amazing how much mileage this “hoax” hoax has managed to get. Trump never called it a hoax. He referred to the Democrats early politicization of the virus (calling him a racist, for example) as “the new hoax.” The media, with its standard extreme bad faith, instantly misrepresented it and the rest is history.

This is a file photo that’s been called out on several sites already.

New York formerly buried their indigent dead on Riker’s Island. The site moved to Hart Island. They make fairly intensive searches for relatives with what they have to go on, but when the information just cannot be found, they bury them in batches. As above.

Only in the last half-century have they been quite so thorough. A once-famous child actor for Walt Disney (Bobby Driscoll, Treasure Island 1950) died a homeless junkie and was buried on Riker’s. After a kindly relative made a serious search, they found his body there and had it reburied with his relations. Since that time (early 70s or so) they’ve been more careful. Nothing to do with Corona.

Democracy is specifically subverted at the information choke point of the mass media.

    To wit:

Whatever the MSM declares to be the truth is from then on the de facto truth, even if a lie.

    And it often is.

Whatever the MSM makes an issue out of becomes an issue, even if a lie.

    And if often is.

Whatever the MSM ignores gets forever ignored, even if the truth.

    It often is.

We need serious regulations on the mass media going forward, toward the end of shaping them away from their current pure propaganda function and toward an institution that is held to a primary function of reporting all facts. It is clear that the media needs regulation to assist them in keeping to their role as journalists and away from propaganda creep.

Currently, we have a media who believes that their role is to influence elections by force of propaganda deluges, and then to try to overturn elections using invented narratives.

We have a media who doesn’t evaluate politics, justice and morality based on a uniform measure of any of them, but instead on which team it wants to win. To which team does any one journalist, member of an editorial board, or media group owner belong?

There needs to be real consequences for media lying, including lying by omission.

These media groups are privately owned by people with private interests. There is no logic that can resolve that with an ostensible commitment to traditional journalistic ethics and standards. That the media, under such a structure, is labeled to be a “democratic institution” is a joke on the populaces of the West. The media needs regulation to assist it to better meet its inherent obligation to these populaces. In its current form, the media’s role as an information control and opinion shaping agent, rather than an agent of reporting, specifically works against the democratic interests of Western populaces.

The longer that such obvious media corruption continues, the more demoralized and distrustful the populaces of the West will become. The more powerful small mafias will become, operating within the shade that a corrupt media always leaves. Eventually leading to permanent social distancing within all social structures in the West.

“…Additional theories being promoted by Rush Limbaugh and others promote the belief that the Chinese communists deliberately created and unleashed the virus to destroy western capitalism.”

The israeloamericans are working on a several level strategy which includes back-ups in my opinion. The nonsense by limbaugh is one aspect of this. The israeloamericans are trying to cover all the bases at once.

So they claim China created the virus in a lab, in case it gets out it was lab created, meaning israel or the usa created it in a lab. The israeloamericans claim the virus leaked out of the Wuhan lab in case evidence is found that israeloamerica deliberately planted the virus in Wuhan or it spread from a source in the usa through some other vector. The israeloamericans claim China mislead the world about the virus so people wont notice the reality that China has successfully thwarted the virus, while trump & co. have continued making it worse. The claptrap about China under reporting victims is a variation of the latter tactic. And so on.

The delay in israel’s trump colonial regime’s containment response to the virus tells me they deliberately wanted the virus to spread across the country and cause the ruckus it is now causing. The question is why israel had them do this.*

    * Compare the israeli response, IE: strong proactive containment strategy, to the weak responses in most zionazi colonies. It is clear there is an actual strategy underlying this difference. And it entails more than israel being sacrosanct.
