There is considerable speculation in Washington about a so-called October Surprise being engineered by either party to change the outcome of the upcoming election. The original October Surprise took place in 1980, when Ronald Reagan’s campaign manager William Casey conspired with several senior CIA officers in Europe to convince the Iranian government to delay the release of the American Embassy hostages until after the November election against Jimmy Carter. Casey believed that any earlier release of the hostages would give a boost to the Carter campaign. The Iranian government was approached and complied with the request, believing that it would result in a less hostile relationship with the new administration. In the event, Reagan defeated Carter and some believed that the continuation of the hostage crisis had made the administration look feckless and hurt the incumbent.

The latest version of the October Surprise relates inevitably to the recent bout of President Donald Trump with COVD-19, which some conspiracy theorists are attributing to his having been deliberately infected by the Democrats to take him out of the race. There is no evidence to support such a claim and it is not even clear exactly how one would go about getting access to the president and introducing the virus.

Another recent version of the Surprise involves starting a little war to demonstrate national resolve and willingness to directly confront America’s enemies. It has been suggested that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo might be considering staging some kind of provocation or even a false flag operation that would result in open conflict with Iran or even Syria with the U.S. arguing that the fighting is both lawful and defensive in nature. Such as suggestion might be considered insanity, but there are signs that the U.S. in heightening its delegitimization campaign against Iran in particular. Unconfirmable allegations from anonymous U.S. government sources are surfacing about an alleged Iranian plot to kill the U.S. Ambassador in South Africa while Washington is now implementing new unilateral sanctions against Tehran as well as Damascus. The downside that suggests that starting something with Iran might be a bridge too far is the considerable ability of the Mullahs to strike back against U.S. forces in the region. Venezuela might be considered a much softer target, where the U.S. also has sanctions and a naval blockade in place.

But also given the fact that Trump’s taxes and Hunter Biden’s illegal meanderings in Eastern Europe have failed to arouse much public anger, perhaps the most interesting option for staging an October Surprise is already out on the table as it were and has been alluded to by a number of Republican politicians as well as by some of the punditry in the conservative media. It consists of a declassified letter sent to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) by Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Ratcliffe. DNI Ratcliffe was responding to Graham’s request for an intelligence community overview of the FBI’s handling of Crossfire Hurricane. Crossfire Hurricane was the cover name given to what has turned out to be a possible Hillary Clinton initiated FBI-run largely clandestine defamation campaign directed against Trump and all his associates that may have been launched formally in July 2016.

In the letter, DNI Ratcliffe provided the following declassified information to the Senate committee for its consideration. The letter was received by Graham on September 29, the same day as the first presidential debate. The key points are:

  • “In late July 2016, U.S. intelligence agencies obtained insight into Russian intelligence analysis alleging that U.S. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had approved a campaign plan to stir up a scandal against U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump by tying him to Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee. The IC does not know the accuracy of this allegation or the extent to which the Russian intelligence analysis may reflect exaggeration or fabrication.
  • “According to his handwritten notes, former Central Intelligence Agency Director Brennan subsequently briefed President Obama and other senior national security officials on the intelligence, including the ‘alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on July 26, 2016 of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by Russian security services.’”
  • “On 07 September 2016, U.S. intelligence officials forwarded an investigative referral to FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence Peter Strzok regarding ‘U.S. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s approval of a plan concerning U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections as a means of distracting the public from her use of a private mail server.’”

Noting the fact that the Bureau did not aggressively follow-up on the claims regarding Clinton, who was expected to win the election, Graham subsequently commented on the letter, saying “This latest information provided by DNI Ratcliffe shows there may have been a double standard by the FBI regarding allegations against the Clinton campaign and Russia. Whether these allegations are accurate is not the question. The question is, did the FBI investigate the allegations against Clinton like they did Trump? If not, why not? If so, what was the scope of the investigation? If none, why was that?”

The Ratcliffe letter was followed by a committee review of the confidential information that supported the claims made in the letter. On the following day, the committee questioned former head of the FBI James Comey who implausibly claimed that Crossfire Hurricane “didn’t ring a bell,” before asserting that his bureau “did not intentionally commit wrongdoing” though there may have been some “real sloppiness” on the part of some FBI employees.

An angry Donald Trump subsequently ordered that all the documents relating to the Russiagate investigation be declassified, but neither the CIA nor the FBI appears to be in any hurry to comply, so there are unlikely to be any new revelations before the election.

So the real smoking pistol that might have turned into an October Surprise may have been the expectation on the part of some Senate Republicans that the story about Hillary Clinton personally initiating an illegal conspiracy involving the FBI and intelligence community to destroy a political rival would take off politically. As President Barack Obama reportedly was briefed on what was taking place and signed off on it, it is plausible that Biden as Vice President was also in the loop. That might have been enough to turn voters against Joe Biden and the party that he represents.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on one’s point of view, the U.S. media has not taken the bait. The tale revealed by the Ratcliffe-Graham letter was hardly replayed in the mainstream and there were few in the public space who stridently demanded that Hillary Clinton publicly face the consequences for her illegal and one might even suggest treasonous actions. Hatred of Trump in the media seemingly cancels out all other considerations, particularly when it is the Democrats who are behaving badly.

And now time is running out. If either party has an October Surprise up its sleeve it had better produce it soon. Only about three weeks to go until the election.

You don’t state the reason: 90% of media outlets in the USA are owned by just 5 conglomerates. These corporatists are almost uniformly hostile to Trump, whom they see as a threat. You know there is something wrong with a “democratic” society when only one mainstream newspaper ( Adelson’s Las Vegas rag) came out in support of Trump in 2016. In a free society, the MSM should reflect political opinions and differences. In America the MSM imposes the views of its masters on the populace.
Things will only change if the conglomerates are broken up, their owners’ assets confiscated and proper competition laws enforced.

Good facts in here, but RT West has the definitive account because he traces the CIA connections.

When you do that consistently, you cannot see this as a Dem/GOP ratfuck contest. This is CIA keeping its puppet ruler off-balance and on the defensive, so that there’s no unsupervised diplomacy or detente.

When all the October surprises have detonated, we’ll see whether CIA judges it has Trump under satisfactory control. Both candidates are crooked enough that CIA can destroy either one at a stroke. Slow child Hunter Biden’s giddy Ukraine internship with “Little Creek” gave them all the kompomat they need to euthanize Biden. If Wisner’s wurlitzer picks up on it, we can conclude CIA has gelded Trump, and he can stay.

Hatred of Trump in the media? Not really. The corporate press doesn’t do anything out of personal whim or spite. They do it because their owners pay them to do it. Trump has mostly rolled over and governed like corporate shill Paul Ryan, but Trump is still hard to control and the people who count want him gone. Nothing personal, just business.

I’ve waited for over a decade for the inevitable implosion. The Fed has managed to keep pulling rabbits out of hats the entire time.

I do think the end is approaching, but it’s on their terms as they invented the plandemic as cover for their societal and monetary reset. The banksters and political class along with the corporate head, the media and military will come out of this unscathed. The US population will believe almost anything if it’s repeated often enough.

    Welcome to feudalism 2.0 .

  11. The Jew controlled MSM is just trying to reinforce the Democrat – Republican paradigm to make the goyim think there is really a difference between them. Both the adolescent Trump and the senile self admitted Zionist Biden are just puppet actors for the Zionist Jews. It is critical to control the whole political spectrum and it makes no difference which side the politicians front for as long as they follow the Zionist agenda as laid out by the many Jew organizations, the most visible being aIPAC and B’nai B’rith’s ADL. It is important to keep the goyims limited attention focused on things of no consequence like fake presidential contests, sports and entertainment, while the real agenda moves on regardless of which fake party wins an election.

Many people use the term deep state to refer to the clandestine activities of government entities. This is an amorphous, enigmatic definition. The Zionists and their activities can be tracked back easily to their official founding in 1897 at the first Zionist convention although they were active for many years prior to this. Both the Anglo Zionists and their Jew partners were responsible for setting up both world wars, establishment of their bridgehead in Palestine to control the “world island”, the plunder of Russia with 30 million deaths, as well as the massive 5 year plans where U.S. tax dollars built up the fake Soviet menace while we kept the whole thing from collapsing. This all paved the way for the phony Cold War after Eastern Europe was delivered over to the Zionist Jews.

Hitler was brought to power by the Zionists as a reactionary force against the deprivations caused by the Versailles treaty and the communist (Jew) threat. This enabled maximum damage to finish off Germany and maximum profits for the Zionist syndicate. Germany was also heavily funded by Wall St. Many U.S. soldiers testified that when they went into Germany at the close of the war there were large industrial complexes with almost no damage. This is because the Zionists didn’t want their investments destroyed, while the housing stock of the German people were firebombed as in Dresden which had practically no military significance. Germany and Japan both served was bulwarks against the Zionist forces of communism.

After more wars for the Zionists and the setting up of communist China as detailed in Anthony Kubek’s book “How the Far East Was Lost” Jewmerica is focusing on the Yinnon Plan for Greater Israel while their banking cartel steals trillions more and and their operatives peddle the fake virus. There is no deep state ambiguity here, but a long term plan for global control.

‘Reprehensible Behavior’: US Elites Privately Briefed About COVID-19 Dangers in February

“Rall, who is also a columnist, told Political Misfits hosts Michelle Witte and Bob Schlehuber on Thursday that the details kept from the American public is reason enough to call for most meetings to be open to the masses.

“The elites are different from you and me. They get insider information, and we don’t,” Rall said. “They think we don’t deserve to know what’s going on … I have long believed there should be no such thing as a private meeting in government. Every single meeting should be public unless it’s very top national security kind of concern, once in a blue moon … and this is why.”

“It reminds me a lot of the behavior of the Wall Street banks during the 2007-2009 meltdown, where the CEOs of big banks and insurance companies were telling the public and their employees that there was nothing to worry about … when at the same time, they were, of course, personally short-selling or dumping their portfolios wholesale and heading for the hills. And they knew the truth, which was they were in big trouble,” Rall added.”

Since the Central banking cartel was started in 1913 the average rate of depreciation has been about 50% every 17 years. Thats a lot of inflation. This has transferred lots of wealth to the elite from the productive segment of society. This has only been sustainable because other countries have soaked up lots of our depreciation because of the dollar being the reserve currency and the U.S. has had a very large and dynamic economy.

The Zionists want to get rid of the middle class and as you state the goal is a Neo-feudalism under global totalitarian control. China has been moving their livestock into the urban areas for a lone time now and are ahead in herd management with their social credit total surveillance and control system. Free individuals in a contented society don’t do anything for the Zionists. The FED (banking cartel) before the fake virus was implemented reported that 49% of goyim in Jewmerica could not put their hand on \$500 dollars. They would have to use a credit card or borrow the money. Now it will be worse since millions more people and businesses have been bankrupted. The cartel has always since the 20’s used the contrived boom bust cycles to “fleece the flock.” This tactic expedites the appropriation of assets to the top vultures like the Jews at Black Rock and the slum lord Kushner clan.

Don’t worry though, shabbos goy Trump’s main advisors, son-in-law and Chabad Lubavitch disciple Jarad along with special advisor Avi Berkowitz who has attended the top rabbinical schools are aware of these issues as are Sec. of Commerce Jew Wilbur Ross (Managing dir. for Rothschild Inc. for 25 years) and Sec. of Treasury Hollywood Jew Steve Mnuchin.

I think the Russian economy is probably a good indicator for where Jewmerica is headed. Half Jew Putin and his Jew oligarch cronies control about 30% of the economy after the piratization consolidated much of the capital in a few hands with the help of former Tres. Sec. Jew Larry Summers and his Harvard crew. In 1991 the Russian gov. switched currencies wiping out the savings of millions of people. The goyim never figure out that the government is mostly just a big scam operation for the benefit of the elite Zionist criminals. This is even more evident with the acceptance of the fake virus restrictions as a medical false flag to abrogate our natural rights.

    Agreed, agreed, agreed.

Look at the sorry state of the population in the US. They are arguing over where to put the deck chairs on the financial Titanic that is sinking fast. Arguing over Trump or Biden is such a waste of time as they are both owned by the deep state in one way or another. The permanent bureaucracy IS the gov’t with interchangeable figureheads that the rubes get to anoint after they’ve already been vetted by the establishment.

Trump hasn’t made a decent hire in his entire administration. He has accomplished nothing except Israel has done quite well. Biden is an overt and obvious crook, even boasting of his Ukraine adventure. That the Dem party would have the temerity to run this mental vegetable shows their disdain for their cheerleaders.

Trump and Biden both suck. Neither is going to improve the country because that ship sailed a long time ago. What’s happening now is the final looting before the wealthy mostly forget about the US concentrating on their next victim, Asia.

For the next several decades, the US will get worse and worse from one administration to the next because the true owners of the country want it that way. This is obvious to me and I can’t understand why so few can see what is plainly in front of them.

There were some that got caught unaware but the “too big to fail” banks had the whole thing planned from the start. Goldman Sachs even set up a separate company to short sell the worthless derivatives that Goldman had pumped up. There were two issues that had to be covered. First most of the junk derivatives had been bundled as guaranteed bonds sold to wealthy investors. The big banks had to make sure they were paid off.. Next the banking cartel run by the “to big to fail” banks had to get the bailout for billionaires program approved so the junk contracts could be picked up by the public. None of this was a problem for these financial criminals and they got full cooperation from our shabbos goy congress. The next year they were giving out million dollar bonuses again.

Every Presidential Election Since The Iraq War Has Featured Candidates Who Supported It

“The United States has done many, many profoundly evil things throughout its history, but the 2003 invasion of Iraq is surely in the top ten.

Yet there have been no consequences for it. No real changes of any kind were made to American military, governmental, political or media institutions to ensure that a similar atrocity never happens again, because the drivers of US foreign policy had every intention of doing it again. There weren’t even any real political consequences for it, as evidenced by the fact that politicians who supported it have been ascending to Democratic and Republican presidential nominee status ever since.

This is insane. The fact that every electoral contest for commander in chief of the most powerful military in the history of civilization has featured at least one candidate who supported one of the most evil things ever done in the blood-soaked history of their nation is too insane to really put into words. And it says so much about the state of the US political system today.

Unlike Clinton and Biden, their opponent Donald Trump was in no position to actively facilitate the Iraq invasion since he wasn’t in politics at the time, but in 2002 he was asked point-blank by Howard Stern “Are you for invading Iraq?” and he answered in the affirmative. If Trump was unable to see Iraq clearly from the political sidelines at the time, there’s no reason to believe he’d have done any better than Biden and Clinton had he been a sitting US senator in 2002 with the immense pressures to conform that were being implemented by the Bush administration.

The way principled leftists and anti-imperialists are shamed as privileged and petty whenever they point out the record of a candidate on this crucial matter is disgusting. This is not some kind of pedantic quibble, it’s the bare minimum requirement for such an immensely powerful position. The argument that the Iraq invasion was supported by most prominent politicians at the time is not a defense of those politicians, it’s an indictment of mainstream American politics.

Nobody who supported the Iraq invasion should be working in politics at all. They shouldn’t be able to find employment anywhere more prominent or influential than a cash register. It’s entirely legitimate for any voter to reject anyone who supported the unforgivable invasion of Iraq, and indeed to reject the entire political system that gave rise to them.”

Essentially agree with every point Johnstone makes in this piece, except the last para quoted. The sods are war criminals who should be hanged, or at the very least spend the rest of their lives making license plates during the day and sharing a cell with “lifer bubba”, and his pecular habits, at night.

The Hunter files look like the real thing–and the Biden campaign denials will be hilarious to see.

Apparently Hunter’s computer made its way to the FBI because Hunter failed to pay his computer repair bill! (That made the computer the property of the repair store owner and therefore searchable by the FBI without a warrant. Then the FBI tried to hide the contents, but they have leaked out….partee time!)

Biden is a _terrible_ liar, and since he is senile he has no clue what he did and when he did it.

  20. “considerable ability of the Mullahs to strike back…”

given the pathetic Iranian response to Trump’s murder of Iran’s top General on Iraqi soil – a few missiles scattered harmlessly about in sandyland, then shooting down a civilian airliner 5 minutes after it took off from Tehran airport –

I doubt if Zion-stooge Trump or the Pentagram are much worried about Iran’s military power. They’ll need some sort of violent pretext for a major attack though. I’m still wondering what was in that medium-size container delivered by an Israeli aircraft to a shut-down Atlanta airport awhile back. Hope I’m wrong.

  21. Sparkon says:

The Hunter files look like the real thing … Apparently Hunter’s computer made its way to the FBI because Hunter failed to pay his computer repair bill!

I don’t know about that. All the news reports I’ve read say the laptop was simply abandoned at the repair shop after being brought in by a guy who identified himself as Hunter Biden.

I know virtually nothing about Hunter Biden, but it seems highly doubtful anyone, let alone a presidential contender’s son, would fail to retrieve a laptop which he must have known had compromising material on it, if in fact even that part of the story is true.

But it makes perfect sense as the kind of dirty trick a certain political party loves to pull. You might even call it an October Surprise.

The Daily Beast interviewed the guy from the Mac repair shop who gave a copy of the laptop’s contents to Giuliani’s lawyer.

John Paul Mac Isaac, owner of The Mac Shop in Wilmington, recalled how in April 2019 a man who identified himself as Hunter Biden brought three liquid-damaged laptops to his small repair shop in the Trolley Square shopping center.

Only one was left for repair, he said. No one returned to retrieve it, he said.

Isaac said that a medical condition had prevented him from actually seeing Hunter Biden, but he felt sure it was Biden’s because the laptop had a sticker on it related to the Beau Biden Foundation.

Mac Isaac refused to answer specific questions about whether he had been in contact with Rudy Giuliani before the laptop drop-off or at any other time before the Post article’s publication. Pressed on his relationship with Giuliani, he replied: “When you’re afraid and you don’t know anything about the depth of the waters that you’re in, you want to find a lifeguard.”

    I see three possibilities:

    1. The laptop was Biden’s, and this story is entirely true.

    2. The laptop was Biden’s, and incriminating material was put on it during the 90 days it was at the Mac shop.

    3. The laptop was never Biden’s, and was delivered with incriminating material to the Mac shop by an imposter

Even if 2 or 3, we’ve merely moved to a situation analogous to Mark Furman planting the bloody glove on O.J. Simpson.

Simpson was nevertheless guilty, and I’ve long been satisfied that Biden is corrupt in general, guilty in the Ukraine matter, and even more spectacularly unfit to be President than Donald Trump.

This one is simple–no need for elaborate explanations.

Eric Clapton explained it best: “She’s all right, she’s all right, she’s all right. Cocaine.”

Hunter was the bagman for the Biden crime family and a coke addict.

He accepted payments from foreign corporations and governments, took a cut for himself, and distributed the rest to family members (including “pop”=Joe Biden, according to one email).

He was out of his mind on drugs most of the time, a “protected” Biden family member who could not be touched by law enforcement for any crime small or large, so it was habit to be sloppy. The computer repair story makes total sense in that context.

The Bidens are just a dumber and sloppier version of the Clinton Crime Family.

My guess is that what comes after is more of the same, just in an increased quantity.

Sooner or later, the leftists will attempt to hit some hard asses and get shot wholesale for their trouble. I think neighborhoods or at least small business neighbors will eventually arm themselves and start blasting anyone that touches their property, as it should have been all along. When one is facing financial ruin in the guise of some POS with a match, things get real on an individual basis. The corporations are never going to fight back, but an individual who has spent much time, money and effort in starting a business isn’t likely to just let some asshat run over him if the result is absolute ruin. I think the tide will turn when some people say ‘I’m not taking it anymore’.

The military and the spook agencies are the US gov’t; they are the ‘deep state’. The corporations aligned with them do so for the enormous profit potential. The Fed and the bankers have facilitated the theft of trillions by DOD and HUD in ‘unaccounted for transactions’ with the latest estimate at \$21 Trillion. It was \$2 Trillion on 9/10/2001 when Rumsfeld announced that fact on TV. The next day changed the world and the missing money was forgotten, especially when the Navy team investigating the missing money was blown up at the Pentagon and so was their backup data site of building 7 in New York. What an amazing coincidence that both sets of records many miles apart were destroyed on the same day, don’t you think?

The US is a soft military dictatorship with elected puppets to distract the terminally stupid. For 20 years, the DOD has systematically looted the country and no one in gov’t deemed it worthy of formal investigation. Why is that? The only answer I can come up with was given by Voltaire.

To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.

At some point the military will take over overtly and do away with all the bullshit elections because the perfectly legal ‘continuity of government’ operations were commenced at the start of the plandemic. The people will be grateful when the leftists are rounded up and the new normal will be the open military dictatorship that’s been in the planning stages for decades because – safety. That will last for a few years while all the privately owned weaponry is collected. Simultaneously, the economy will be revived like magic to fight a real war, probably against China and / or Russia. Again, the people will be grateful for the jobs and food it offers.

My vision is dystopian. All I know is that the system leading up to this point couldn’t survive much longer and a reset, a new normal was the only obvious solution. That new normal will reveal its teeth, IMO.

Biden would have won in a walk with Tulsi. I suspect Sheldon told him to pick Harris. The moment Biden said he would pick a woman I knew with certainty it would be Harris. She is a worry with the Johnson event in mind. LBJ changed American foreign policy forever. Harris would probably make Netnayahu a member of the cabinet. A president Trump is better than a president Harris for America.

Yes, surely the October Surprise is the Hunter Biden sex tapes, carefully suppressed by the media. If Biden is elected, will the Democrats turn around and use them to quickly get rid of Joe and install Carmela?

Nobody’s stopping you from patronizing Gab, Mel Gibson movies, or using Bing search.

Jews are just too talented at media, programming, fiction, and persuasive writing. That’s why the largest religion in the world was started by Jews, the largest media companies mostly started small by Jews etc.

CIA picked up their cabbage patch doll Jeff Bezos and shook him around and talked for him in a high squeaky voice. They shot him up with extra Jatenzo to make him less doughy and floppy and pathetic. CIA used their cabbage patch doll to express their abject pants-pissing fear of getting caught at organized crime.

CIA learned that Russia is complying with its conventional international law commitment under UNCAC Article 38 to assist investigation of trading in influence by Hunter Biden, and under CTOC Article 13 to assist investigation of Joe Biden’s corruption.

You know the criminal CIA scumbags who looted their Ukrainian puppet regime and laundered it to their Atlantic Council slush fund? Well, they’re all now subject to prosecution or extradition in any UNCAC or CTOC treaty party (that is, worldwide!)

That sound that’s upsetting your dog is Gina’s ass puckering up even tighter. CIA is busted.

Fun fact: The hard drive was encrypted, but the computer repair guy (a POC hacker genius) was able to guess the password after writing a GUI in Visual Basic. The password was: hunter2.

it seems highly doubtful anyone, let alone a presidential contender’s son, would fail to retrieve a laptop which he must have known had compromising material on it

Maybe. Then again maybe a politician is going to be the kind of person who logs into his AOL account with a browser that has the Bonzi Buddy toolbar installed. How many Senators do you think are computer savy to the point they could write a moderately complicated shell script?

Is that the one where Bush flew to Iran in a SR-71.

I think fairly recently I read that the Jewish Congress got fellow Tribal Zuck/Facebook to BAN anyone even being allowed to mention this fact — being that we live in a “Free” Country and all that….The Tribe continues with the fine work we observed by them on 911….

There’s another thing that makes Hunter Biden’s featherbed job look like CIA chores. Now that the poor shmuck is burned, he’s benefiting from some clever data poisoning reminiscent of GW Bush’s national guard memo. Democrats do not have this capacity in-house.

The picture is increasingly clear. CIA’s criminal enterprise is constrained by international conventional law (UNCAC and CTOC.) CTOC in particular negates the protective value of deniability. CIA’s response has been to add a layer of impunity by delegating it to VIP agents with colorable sovereign immunity.

This has been going on for a while. CIA supplemented its bank-based money laundering with “foundations:” the Clinton Foundation; Tony Blair’s Institute for Global Change. Now CIA has gone further and implicated a VIP, Joe Biden, in abuse of function, giving him a strong incentive to curtail both international cooperation and criminalization.

  51. Sparkon says:

The claim is that George H.W. Bush was flown back from Paris in an SR-71 after he and Bill Casey concluded a deal with powerful Iranians to delay release of the hostages until after the 1980 election.

In Harry V. Martin’s version of the tale, the Iranians had grown weary of the hostage situation by Sept. 1980, and were ready to let them go. Polls at the time indicated the hostage release would propel Carter to re-election.

To preempt that development, George HW Bush, Bill Casey, and other ranking Americans conspired with certain Iranians to delay release of the American hostages until after the election. In return, the Iranians got a \$40 million down payment, as well as spare parts for their American fighters, via Israel, in an ongoing series of illicit deals that culminated in the more widely known Iran-Contra arms-for-hostages scandals in the mid ’80s.

It is beyond contention that the hostages were released within minutes of Ronald Reagan’s inauguration as U.S. President in January 1981.

It seems highly unlikely that the timing of the release had anything to do with any admiration the Iranians might have had for Reagan’s Hollywood screen gems, like Bedtime for Bonzo, and much more likely that the timing of the release was related to some behind-the-scenes deal that the Iranians sneakily disclosed by letting the hostages go just as soon as Reagan was inaugurated, because they owed him.

They also owned him as a result of the illicit deal, as did the Israelis, who were the middlemen, and knew everything.

Navy flier testifies he flew Bush to Paris for deal to block release of hostages

Harry V. Martin died in Petaluma, CA in 2014. He was 74.
