In my humble opinion the surfacing of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington last week was possibly the most disgusting example of the corruption of our country and its values since Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu arranged for a similar invitation to address a rapturous Congress back in 2015. Zelensky’s “surprise” visit had in fact been arranged over the course of several months and was a carefully choreographed performance intended to pay political dividends for both the White House, for the Democratic Party in Congress and for Zelensky and his political supporters at home. He met privately with President Joe Biden in the White House, where he presumably received most of what he was seeking as well as a pledge of total support until “Ukraine wins.” He subsequently was invited to address a Joint Session of Congress, a privilege that was most definitely not arranged at short notice, with House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi predictably calling on all Congressmen to attend. The session began with a three minute standing ovation from the assembled Representatives and Senators.
So the creepy little con-man was enabled to have his say in a video link that reached a global audience. That it consisted of a gaggle of lies to justify the rapid passage of hundreds of billions of dollars from the struggling American taxpayer to a nation renowned only for its reputation as the most corrupt in Europe was not noted by the audience. As it has been from the start Joe Biden’s war, it is inevitable that the Democrats in Congress should leap around and fill the chamber with cheers every time Zelensky opened his mouth to emit yet another inanity. But to their shame, many Republicans joined in on the celebration of the odd diminutive man Zelensky, whose beatification was passionately embraced by the national media to make sure no one missed out on the importance of the event. The New York Times report on the visit began by describing Zelensky’s status as “a national hero and global superstar, having forged a leadership style blending personal daring with deft messaging to rally his people at home and his allies abroad.” In part, that message included describing his struggle as engaging in a battle pitting “good against evil.”
Nevertheless, those Republicans whose heads were not wedged up their keesters did boycott the event, to the tune of only 86 out of 213 being present. It seems that some Republicans are against the war generally speaking while others actually believe that the billions going to Ukraine should be audited to determine whether it is being stolen or not. Congressmen Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert attended but played with their cell phones and did not rise and applaud the stirring rhetoric coming from Zelensky, who was basically seeking many new weapons and lots more money justified not as “charity” but as an “investment” so he and Ukraine could work to bring rule of law, global security, democracy and freedom to the world. In the aftermath, one particularly delusional commentator has enthused how “There can be no more compelling or effective leader of the democratic free world today than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Fate has called upon him to rise to a level of courage and clarity few figures in history have demonstrated.”
In his speech, Zelensky clearly forgot to mention how he has eliminated freedom of speech and association in his own country as part of his war agenda, while also banning opposition parties and media and even harassing the Russian Orthodox Church. But the tweetosphere inevitably ignored those issues and erupted instead over the alleged bad behavior by some Republicans in not supporting such a great leader. One Michael Beschloss (@BeschlossDC), who is the anointed NBC television network’s Presidential Historian, tweeted, “For any members of Congress who refused to clap for Zelenskyy, we need to know from them exactly why.” Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) responded sarcastically to Beschloss, “Haul them before a Committee and force them to pledge allegiance to Ukraine and Zelensky or else face long-term imprisonment in a supermax. Refusing to clap for a foreign leader on command is a form of treason.”
And politicians too were inevitably prone to bombastic misrepresentation. Congressman Don Beyer of Virginia tweeted how “This disrespect is embarrassing. It embarrasses you, your constituents, the body we serve in, and our country. Huge numbers of President Zelensky’s people have been killed in a bloody war they did not seek. We must be able to debate foreign policy without mocking human suffering.”
Another lunkhead Democrat Representative Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts declared war, asserting that “We’re in a global struggle between democracy and autocracy. And Ukraine is fighting on the frontlines of that struggle. Our support for Ukraine is sending a message to Moscow, it’s sending a message to Beijing. And it’s sending a message to other authoritarian regimes.” Auchincloss was apparently unaware that it is the United States government that has itself become more autocratic/despotic in that it is generally accepted that the president now has extralegally assumed the authority to allow war crimes to be committed in places like Syria, Afghanistan and Libya while also torturing people to death in secret prisons. The president and his Attorney General Merrick Garland are also rooting out “domestic terrorists” who generally speaking are white people who oppose Democratic Party policies.
Clearly, neither Beyer nor Auchincloss understands that a principled “debate” on foreign policy is not taking place at all in America, largely due to the ability of their party and colleagues to manage and control the process whereby it is possible to start an illegal/unconstitutional war that just might go nuclear without any real pushback from critics or the public. When it comes to controlling the narrative on Ukraine, the normally inept Biden Administration has unleashed the most effective propaganda machine that has ever existed, even if one is taking into consideration George W. Bush’s many lies relating to Afghanistan/Iraq. It is interesting to note that nor did Beyer find Zelensky’s macho sporting of a “wartime uniform” featuring combat style sweatshirt and fatigue cargo pants, which Tucker Carlson described as befitting the “manager of a strip club,” as disrespectful of the august body that he was addressing.
Nor was Beyer apparently affronted when Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris unfurled and waved a huge Ukrainian flag at the speaker’s rostrum. And speaking of Zelensky’s performance itself, one has to wonder who wrote Zelensky’s speech? He has neither the experience nor the smarts necessary to appeal to the most basic instincts of the American people, so one might rather expect that the piece was written and the presentation coached by the usual neocon handlers that have presumably surrounded him since his ascent to power.
The chinless and gutless wonder Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made up for the lack of ardor exhibited by some of his colleagues by saying on the day before Zelensky’s arrival that arming Kiev to “defeat” Russia tops the agenda of “most Republicans.” He elaborated that “Making sure the Defense Department can deal with the major threats coming from Russia and China, providing assistance for the Ukrainians to defeat the Russians, that’s the number one priority of the United States right now, according to most Republicans.” Mitch calls defeating the Russians the number one priority for the United States, not the open southern border nor the economy suffering from inflation, shortages and recession. And then there is Senator he/she Lindsey Graham, who clearly endorsed that hardline in spades, calling for the “assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin,” an act that would surely initiate World War 3.
I rather suspect that the passion unleashed for the Jewish Zelensky is at least in part engineered by the usual suspects among the politically powerful Jewish groups, lobbyists and media personalities, where criticism of Ukraine, which has a large Jewish population, is considered a capital offense. Jewish media in the US hailed the impending news of the Zelensky visit, enthusing in seasonal fashion over how “Ukraine’s survival” under Zelensky had been a “modern day Hanukkah miracle.”
Hatred of Russia (and of course Iran) is also a sine qua non among such groups and media outlets and they will twist every argument to urge US military intervention in both those countries. That is precisely what Zelensky himself does when he calls for NATO intervention even when he is the one who bombs neighboring Poland. In the current situation, you will not find the totally “reliable” New York Times debunking the ridiculous claim that throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at Zelensky and his band of thieves is in any way related to US national security requirements. No one was threatening the United States and the war that erupted in February was clearly negotiable on two major issues: implementation of the Minsk accords of 2014-5 over autonomy for Donbas and demands for neutrality for Ukraine, i.e. no joining NATO. It was the United States that encouraged Ukraine’s abrupt tilt towards and west and refused to negotiate in any seriousness with Russia over issues that were vital to that country’s actual security.
So did the Zelensky bit of kabuki theater largely engineered by the White House and Nancy Pelosi succeed in getting everything the Ukrainians wanted? Probably not, as offensive missile systems that could be used to strike deep into Russia are still on hold, but the money and other weapons are now in the pipeline. And there surely will be more to come, certain to include US military “advisers” on the ground. No matter how it turns out, the Ukraine is a tragedy writ large and the fools sitting complacently on Capitol Hill are largely to blame for not recognizing that US interests do not necessarily coincide with the aspirations of Volodymyr Zelensky and his fellow accomplices. Maybe in two years’ time when the whole house of cards has collapsed and Americans, feeling a great deal of economic and political pain, begin to wonder what took place, it will be time to throw all the bums out and replace them with folks who really care about what happens to this country.

Life is very very good (Remember old SNL phrase).

This is the line of argument of many neocons, including Anne Applebaum, who are making in the media to fool the public. Applebaum warning Americans:

She warns the public what happens if Zelensky defeated, she writes, then the world will face an horror. Therefore, she justifies both the money and the advance weapons as small price to pay by the Western citizens to Zelensky for a ‘secure’ West and continuation of the ‘democracy’ he provides. Zelensky many times said that: he wants a ‘strong’ country like Israel, a racist entity.
Applebaum brings more reasons for the west not to abandon Zelensky:

This Neocon is only concerned with Zelensky and his family’safety who can keep Ukraine as second place for the Tribe and does not mention thousands of Ukrainian who have lost their lives and millions more who fled their country to save their lives. She continues to show more horrors in case America refuses to give Zelensky the kind of money and weapons he wants:

As far as I know Zelensky got the RIDE, to the white house and the Congress to receive Billions of dollars and a lot of advanced weapons to take it all back through another RIDE. She believes, the help from the west brought the following benefits: [ legend of Russia’s military prowess has been shattered. China and Iran are roiled by unhappiness and unrest. The democratic world did not collapse but has instead been strengthened. As the Ukrainian president said, we “succeeded in uniting the global community to protect freedom and international law.”
Those Neocons, maybe Applebaum, who wrote the speech, used the opportunity to spread disinformation about Iran accusing Iran for her involvement in the Ukraine war where the Jewish mafia promoted, and Iran has NO PART in it. But lying is the neocons’ signature.

As a Brazilian, I am slowly coming around to the same conclusion.
Until now, I have felt more pity for Americans than anything else. I guess this kind of analysis still holds up for the most part, but now it’s becoming harder and harder to justify it, especially after Zelensky’s sickening roleplaying before a bunch of hypocritical CON-gress-men. It is difficult to figure out who is more nauseating and villainous, if Zelensky himself or the representatives of the American people applauding him. Perhaps — I think to myself — these American warmongers are NOT merely shabboz goys, but are sick psychopaths in their own right, who actually get a kick out of doing the Jews’ dirty work (look at the face of a Lindsay Graham, let’s say, while he talks about Ukraine).

I think what it really points to is that Jewish identity is not — and perhaps never has been — as fixed as both Jews and gentiles would prefer. He blames the US without so much as a references to the very real historical tensions on the region of the conflict that has nothing to do with the US. Nothing. His position real internationalism is just another form of the so oft touted
“Real politik” which is not predicated on the very real politics involved but instead whatever imaginary or real concerns of Russia. In otherwords his real world politics is the politics of power dynamics of regional control.
He starts out by describing US conduct in WWII what he ignores is that the US did not attack Japan, Japan attacked the US. He ignores that Germany was invading her neighbors and had she been successful would along with the Japanese attacked the US. The paints a drastically different vision of US regional hegemony. Furthermore, which the US has sent troops to different parts of the hemisphere for various reasons — she did not invade with any intention of confiscating territory. Her regional territories are relatively few and none include huge land masses or nation states. he fails to mention that her interventions in the region were largely in response to unrest in those regions. He further ignores that the defeat of the Soviet Union (I don’t like to call it that — Russia was never going to leave the world stage) it was not the US alone. It was a very large and united community east and west.
He further relies heavily on the risk assessment approach — the risk of nuclear conflict. He fears Russia’s threat of nuclear war if other countries come to the aide of Ukraine. His largess contention is that Ukraine leaning west was an existential threat. He doesn’t describe how Ukraine is an existential threat, in fact neither does Russia. He cites no direct or even indirect threat to Russian existence by Ukraine making her own choices for her future and present. He claims that Russia is at threat because she is being surrounded. Apparently he has never taken a look at a map of Russia’s size and geographic location.
The stunning rhetorical gymnastics he cites an article in defence of Pres Putin’s intentions of recognizing Ukrainian sovereignty and their course is their choice — one minor problem with this position. Ukraine invades Ukraine – so much for Ukrainians making their own choice.
Dr Mearsheimer makes a lot of assertions without an ounce of supporting reference. For example he claims that the US steam rolled Germany and France and does not describe how they did so. He utterly ignore the will of the people expressed in protest — about their will. He uses the fact that the the west was training Ukrainians as some manner of intent to join NATO — when it was pretty clearly established that while that may be along term goal — it was not a goal in the present and merely training Ukrainians to defend Ukrainians is not a threat to Russia, unless Russia has some other intentions.
Every contention made by Dr. Mearsheimer is predicated on Russia demands and Russian threats. One can certainly critique US foreign policy. But none of that critique has anything to do with the very real will of the people which even Pres Putin supposedly says he supports — apparently not so much. The will of the Ukrainians as long as it comports to the likes and dislikes of Russia. Furthermore, so what, if Ukraine wants to join NATIO — it is not at the point of a weapon — it is a choice by Ukrainians. One has to love this unanimity argument among all Russians liberal or not in agreement that NATO was unacceptable. To whit – the very real identity of Ukraine is at threat. Dr. Mearsheimer’s dilemma is that existential existence is not for Russia alone. Ukraine also has the right to exist. And the real world has a right to respond to the threat of that existence by Russia. Again, That Russia’s rhetoric and conduct is clearly a threat to the existence of Ukraine, what matters to Dr. Mearsheimer is what Russia wants because she might start a nuclear exchange. And that is the trump card. And it’s the only real card that Dr. Mearsheimer has.
Laugh . . . Dr Mearsheimer does the circular ring around the poesy as he dances around the consequences of the Russian invasion — more countries simply joined the NATO. It’s hard to believe that even gaining Ukraine, Russia is not now going to feel at threat because her neighbors are doing what angers her.
Dr. Mearsheimer makes a todo about Minsk II. What he doesn’t say is that when it came to to implement the measure removing all foreign militaries — Russia refused. Thereby sabotaging the agreement. The OSCE which managed the Minks Accords, is the same organization that Pres Putin and the kremlin stated held the documents of a promise by the west, the US inparticular promised not to expand NATO east. Yet upon examination of the OSCE record, no such promise exists and never has. In fact, even the OSCE has not endorsed Russia’s invasion.
Dr. Mearsheimer also ignores the latest history issues regarding Russia’s reputation in Europe. Those issue began long before the invasion. That all occurred long before Crimea. Europe, began making accusations against Russian aggressive behavior, now I grant that much of this came from disgruntled Russians. But what the invasion has done has confirmed the worst fears of Europeans in general. And much to Russia’s surprise, the EU has not collapsed but instead has grown more unified as countries before not members of NATO seek immediate adoption as member nations.
And the argument now is that unless Pres Putin and his immediate leadership are gone — should and when hostilities end — Russia will receive little to no assistance.
As for nuclear exchange potential — a realist accepts that this is always a possibility. That the dangers in our nuclear age are ever present, but one cannot merely bend to the possibility in the name of the level and clear aggression currently on display by Russia.

The US did not occupy the island. They did their rescue mission, such as it was and left. They made no claims about the island or its inhabitants being no real. not having a real identity . . . they made no claims to the land. They made no suggestions about a mission of rightness for moral failings . . . they made no claims to being the arm of Christ in cleansing the land . . .

Now granted, Grenada is a small island, not a major threat to anyone. I am not even sure the coupe resulted in any real threat to students. And I unclear whether there was any attempt for a peaceful exit. Because you don’t get complaints and fears from students until the invasion. So of course during a conflict the students would feel fear as a result.

However, the US position with respect to communism was clear and the Grenada coupe was violent and destabilizing — so in response the Us did what they did. Lingering insecurities about Vietnam — I don’t doubt it. A military necessity — well that all depends whether the government of Bishop was going to be hostile. Given that the coupe was supported by Libya and Cuba most likely a major threat I agree.
But there was no military presence in Ukraine threatening to attack Russia. And there was no oppression. There was a civil conflict based on whether some Ukrainians could sever Ukrainian territory by using violence.
There was no language oppression — Russians could speak Russian without reprisal. However for official purposes, legal documents, government processes . . . etc. The official language to be used was Ukrainian.
As Russia has their official language in turn so do many others around the globe, that does not bey definition mean other languages are disallowed.
In the US our leadership has simply shriveled at the responsibility to designate English as the official language — doing so would not outlaw others languages.

Here is your statement to which my response applies,

To wit my response is that I cannot think of a single country that does hold their nation, and their nation’s territorial boundaries as a sacred trust to be protected. If can think of such a nation, you are welcome to name her. However, it simply an incorrect claim without any support that sovereignty is some manner of western cabal of bankers. If anything an increasing number of bankers and financiers think as you —- no nations, no borders, no rules, just what one can make in any manner one can make it.
And I would agree, that the sovereignty of oneself is also very real both body, mind and soul or spirit as some would reference.
