Joe Biden is continuing down the path that began with George W. Bush, with military action used as a substitute for any real foreign policy.

In less than six months in office President Joe Biden has already developed a national security policy that appears to lean strongly towards proactive use of military force in questionable circumstances, as if war is the answer to every problem. Biden should nevertheless be applauded for his persistence in withdrawing from Afghanistan after twenty years of ill-considered nation building, but even the departure from that country appears to be characterized by a lack of coordination, rather reminiscent of helicopters taking off from the embassy roof in Saigon in 1975.

For the second time the president has ordered a US bombing raid on two targets in Syria, and for the first time, he also attacked a site inside Iraq. According to one report possibly as many as seven Iraqis died in the attacks which targeted alleged weapons storage facilities along the Syria-Iraq border belonging to Kata’ib Hezbollah and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada militias. The US claims that the two Iraqi militias have ties to Iran, which may be more than usually true because the Iraqis and Iranians have cooperated regularly in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS). The Pentagon also claims that the militias were behind recent attacks on American targets, see more below.

After the attacks carried out by US fighter-bombers, the excuse provided was the same one employed after Biden’s first air attack in February, namely that the US, as described by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, “conducted defensive precision airstrikes against facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups in the Iraq-Syria border region.” He added verbiage what has now become a regular feature of all US military actions, that “the United States acted pursuant to its right of self-defense.” For those who are intrigued by Pentagon newspeak the expression “defensive precision airstrikes” must be considered as a new entry in the crowded field of phrases that largely have no meaning.

The strikes were framed as being retaliatory, but the most interesting aspect of this latest bombing is that the initial US government justifications for the action were on somewhat tentative. Reportedly, someone had used drones with explosives attached for mostly night-time attacks directed “against places where Americans were located in Iraq,” which were further described as including diplomatic, intelligence and military facilities. The Pentagon refers to the drones as “unmanned aerial vehicles” or UAVs. No Americans were killed in the alleged attacks and there were no reports of any substantial damage, though the Pentagon is apparently collecting information and preparing a comprehensive report which the public undoubtedly will not be allowed to see.

Oddly, the initial media reporting on what had occurred and who had been blamed for it included a weasel word, “suspected.” In government-speak that frequently means there was little or no evidence that the militias that had been targeted were actually the perpetrators, but it is convenient to assume that they are responsible, making them “suspects.” After all, it is relatively easy to transport a number of drones on the bed of a pickup truck, drive with it to a location where one is unlikely to be observed and then release them at a fixed target. Even if you don’t hit anything, you will spread fear and trigger a response that might well be exploited to vilify the occupying forces. You will also provide justification for your own retaliation.

The Iraqi government, which was not informed in advance of the US bombings, not surprisingly reacted strongly, registering its opposition to such activity on the part of its so-called ally, though occupier has been suggested as a more appropriate description. Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s office called the airstrikes a “blatant and unacceptable violation of Iraqi sovereignty and Iraqi national security.” After the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad Airport in January 2020, the Iraqi Parliament had called for the departure of all US forces, but the Trump Administration ignored the demand, claiming that it was in Iraq to help the Iraqis in their fight against ISIS and other terrorist groups.

The US currently has a claimed 2,500 soldiers in Iraq who, it asserts, are in country advising and training their local counterparts. Meanwhile, “Fighting terrorists and training friendly forces” is roughly the same excuse that has been used to justify remaining in neighboring Syria, where the US has deployed roughly 500 soldiers who have been taking possession of the production of the country’s oil fields, which it then provides to Israel. The US is also, by the way, trying to overthrow the legitimate Syrian government in Damascus, using some of the very terrorists it claims to be fighting to do the job, but that is of course another story.

If the United States government is beginning to sound a bit like the Israeli government that should surprise no one, as Israel is clearly heavily involved in whatever on goes vis-à-vis Syria and Iran directly and in Iraq by proxy. One almost expects new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to provide an endorsement, parroting the Pentagon line as well as his own country’s rhetoric, saying “the US has a right to defend itself.” Of course, the unasked question then becomes “to defend itself against what?” Israel was at least able to pretend that there was some kind of threat coming from Gaza since the two share a border, but the United States would be hard pressed to explain why it has soldiers in Syria and Iraq at all, particularly since the Iraqi government has called upon them to depart.

A neocon journalist supportive of a global crusade to spread “democracy” once quipped that the nice thing about having an empire is never having to say you are sorry, but that has not meant that mindless acts of violence inflicted throughout the Middle East are have been consequence free. One has to suspect in this case that the use of force to include a target within the borders of a nominal ally was also mostly intended to send a signal to Iran. A Pentagon spokesman ironically boasted afterwards that “This action should send a message to Iran that it cannot hide behind its proxy forces to attack the United States and our Iraqi partners.” The spokesman appears to be oblivious to the fact that it was Iraqi militiamen tied to the government that had been killed, not Iranians. And his assumption that it would reduce the level of violence also proved wrong as there have been a number of new drone, rocket and mortar attacks against American targets in Iraq since Biden’s “defensive precision airstrikes” were launched. One of the militias that lost fighters to the US airstrikes, said it would “avenge the blood of our righteous martyrs.” Another Iranian supported group, the Popular Mobilization Forces went further, threatening to “enter an open war with the American occupation.” In short, all the attacks really accomplished was to anger the Iraqi people over the continued US presence and to guarantee more incidents.

Biden’s “sending a message to Iran” would undoubtedly be intended to do the same to the Iraqi government, telling them that drawing any closer to the Iranians is too close as far as the Pentagon and White House are concerned. In terms of the timing of the airstrikes, it is also important to note that the US has been working closely with the new Israeli government to establish a unified policy on Iranian “regional aggression” and its nuclear program. Biden met recently with retiring Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at the White House and Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken has been having discussions with Israel’s foreign minister, Yair Lapid. Iran was the focus of both meetings.

So, Joe Biden and whoever is advising him are continuing down the path that began with George W. Bush, with military action used as a substitute for any real foreign policy. The problem with the meddling in the Middle East is primarily that it permits no exit strategy. It will end ignominiously when it ends as is happening in Afghanistan, without any remorse and little to show for all the expense and the deaths. Given that reality, rather than concoct largely fabricated reasons to keep US troops in Iraq and Syria the Administration should be looking for ways to end the torment for everyone involved.

  3. The US policy seems to be that it can maintain crusader forts inside hostile foreign territory.

    The US generals claim that anyone trying to overrun US installations would be “running into a buzz saw” of US firepower. This claim may have merit, but like the crusader forts, it is ghastly expensive.

    The 2nd most important element of this strategy is supply lines, which usually means control of an airport inside the fortified zone. The 3rd is having US bombers on standby overhead if things get hot. These jets cost thousands of dollars per hour to fly.

    Iraq and Syria are close enough to US support bases, but Afghanistan is where the fort strategy may be unravelling quickly.

    Seems as if that’s been the case all along. The most direct way of taking someone’s wallet is with a gun. The US simply grabbed away Spanish possessions in the Spanish-American war and that’s been the pattern ever since. It’s worked well for the US so why fiddle with the formula now? Note the propaganda gimmick in inserting Iran’s name into everything, as in “Iran backed…”, constantly repeating the same phrases over and over. Leaving Afghanistan may just be a move to consolidate resources for planned action elsewhere. Sure, male feminist Bush is heartbroken that women’s rights there may take a step backward but there’s people to be bombed elsewhere, otherwise known as spreading democracy.

    We are just pulling out of Afghanistan where we got pummelled by tea drinking, bread eating, illiterate herdsmen wearing sandals , dresses and armed with AKs, rocket launchers and motorbikes. We are now back to bombing people in the Middle East. When will we ever learn ?

In the early 1950s China didn’t have a single nuke while the U.S. had already enough to destroy their country and yet, Mao Tse Tung sent hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers to fight U.S. GIs and US Marines, despite the fact that Mac Arthur was pressuring Truman to nuke their country, but that doesn’t seem to have intimidated them at all. Again in the 1960-70s China was sending military aid and troops to Vietnam to fight the U.S. despite being then still far less powerful militarily than it is now. The same case with Stalin in 1948 when he decided to impose a blockage on West Berlin. The USSR had no nukes at all at the time but still he closed all ground routes to the city and the US had to spend almost a year supplying it with what it needed by air. Stalin finally ended the blockade, but not because of fear of the U.S. but simply because he realised the blockage could go on forever because the U.S. could supply the half-city by air.

    The belief that countries like China, or Russia, or Iran or even minor powers like Syria, Venezuela or Cuba are intimidated by the sheer number of nukes Amerrica has is just an empty myth like most of those warmongering fantasies Hollywood plants in your little heads through fiction series like NCIS, Navy Seals, SWAT. NCIS and others. That is NOT the real world, Junior. Which means that since the US got the A-bomb that has never be a deciding factor in the decisions or the foreign policy of those countries the US has tried to blackmail, bully, intimidate or destroy in the last 75 years, that wasn’t even the case for little Sandinista Nicaragua in the 1980s. They all know that Amerrica and its military are murderous enough to do it, as they have done it already, but they never let that be the element that will control their decisions or their foreign policy. And that was the main purpose of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, absolutely not to push Japan into a surrender they were preparing anyway. That is what has shaped world politics since them, the radioactive mushrooms coming up from those two cities that could come to visit anyone else who dared to displease the imperials in Washington But, as I said, no matter how much U.S. elites have tried to push the world into submission they have never been able to succeed because we all know they are bluffing. In 1945 Japan was a country hated by everyone and his dog, especially in Asia, and I don’t think that hasn’t changed much but that was a unique case and few people if any shed any tears for them. But that was a unique exception as I said, every other country in Asia, Africa, MO, Latin America has allies and friends who stand by them. So the main reason Washington has never used them since is simply for political reasons, they know that the world is watching, the world was watching in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nicaragua and now is watching in Venezuela, Cuba. Syria, etc. On the other hand they can’t attack countries that could send them a few nukes back, which means at the end the mythical “US absolute supremacy in nukes” is worth absolutely nothing.

    Thanks for that. I didn’t know about this book but I’ve been reading the reviews on Amazon. It couldn’t be clearer that it’s the Jewish Empire’s preparation of the US public for a US/China war. It fits in with all the rest of the propaganda, and real events as they unfold will likely trace events in the book.

    The idea seems to be to build a prior framework of public “understanding” for events.

    So there’s some kind of 9/11 false flag being prepared for the S.China Sea where the US and allied navies are hit by a sneaky surprise Chinese attack. The interesting part is that the book scripts a nuclear war so IMO they’re planning for this because they’d easily win it.

    After the destruction of Shanghai the Chinese are supposed to capitulate and accept US terms of surrender. Then the usual crowd of vultures can descend on China and strip it clean, the same as they did with Yeltsin’s Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union.

    The wild card is the attitude of Russia. No doubt they can see what’s going on and are calculating the probabilities.

    What you don’t seem to realise is that, while this is true concerning both the U.S. and China, it is also true for at least half a dozen other countries not only respect to China but also respect to the U.S. itself. The fact is, nowadays there are as many countries that have a similar nuclear arsenals as the ones the USSR or even the U.S., had during the October 1962 crisis, if not better and far more powerful. And what stopped then both superpowers from coming to open nuclear war…? The fact that both Khrushchev and Kennedy recognized that what they had as nuclear weapons at the time was enough to destroy whatever Man had achieved in 6.000 years of civilization. Anyone who knows that has to understand also that even a limited war between second rate nuclear powers like India and Pakistan could be catastrophic not only for of Asia but also for the rest of the world. Or a war in the Middle East between Israel and Iran. Iran doesn’t need to have nukes to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, thousands of missiles with conventional war heads could do the job, while the usage of nukes by Israel would turn the whole region into a radioactive and lifeless landscape.     Uh, i don’t know in what this information is relevant now, not only because I consider such a Treaty (signed I guess by the US, the USSR, China, the UK and France) completely abandoned, in the waste basket at this point in time, but also because it has also the familiar look of a deal signed by the most powerful in their own benefit, leaving the weaker ones in a clear position of inferiority (which usually means also vulnerability) which makes them to never respect it of simply to cheat. Like the Washington Naval Treaty of the 30s, the best example I can think of, which gave clear advantage to the navies of the U.S. and the U.K. while leaving at a clear disadvantage those of Germany, Italy and Japan. Guess what happened. While the two Anglo Saxon powers dutifully respected the Treaty, which is not surprising after all, the other three didn’t take very long to start cheating and building the ships they wanted to, covertly or openly. And the same has happened to this Treaty you mention, otherwise how have we come to the situation of not only having Five nuclear powers but also India, Pakistan, North Korea and most likely South Africa and Israel. Even in South America both Argentina and Brazil have been flirting for many years with the idea of having their own nukes, so at the end I would say a Treaty that benefits only those who wrote at their own interest, leaving the rest of the world watching, isn’t worth the paper it is written on.

    Oh, BTW, Iran could have gotten also their nukes when the USSR was dismantled and there were many ex-Soviet military officers willing to get rid of the nukes under their responsibility for a fee, especially in Ukraine. They had the chance and they lost it, they let it go for religious reasons so what worth is that treaty.

    I dont know Antibeast but it seems to me that predicting the outcome of a fight is always a dangerous undertaking and frequently lead to results quite different from those predicted. If history has taught us anything it is that the country with the most does not necessarily win. The vagaries of battle are such that the most insignificant mistake or quirk of time, space and force and the egos of the participants will turn a winning situation into a disaster.

    Lastly, the US military doesn’t have any allies willing to fight and die for them in East Asia. Not the Japanese. Not the Okinawans. Not the South Koreans. Not the Taiwanese. Australia is simply too far while India has too many problems.

    This may well be true at this point in time and may well be the case in a future conflict. Alliances however are fluid and nations will abandon a position if it is not in their best interests.

    Hopefully, there will not be any major conflict. I personally dont see much sense in it. What would be the point of everyone nuking everyone else. There may be some spiritual benefit to the winner but no material benefit whatsoever. We would all in fact be thrown back to the stone age.

    Who will win and who will lose is a matter of academic debate at the present moment. China might ! The West might! There may be a draw ! We will never know until the conflict is done.

    You may be right about the technicalities of that treaty and others also but I am NOT referring to what has been promised or agreed upon, about what is written on a piece of paper, but to the real world, about what had really been going on ever since the U.S. got the A-bomb in 1944 (you should know better than to think that, only because something is written on a piece of paper signed by Washington, the U.S. world empire-wannabe is going to respect it—just ask Native Americans). And that reality is to be found in the news and to past recollections of people who used to be in power in different countries at some time in the past or even to those of U.S. politicians and members of the U.S. government. And they tell us a story of frequent use by Washington, its politicians and military, of threats of nuclear attack in many occasions, even against their own “allies” (i.e. client or vassal states) which makes me guess that this kind of incident, the use of the nuclear threat, has been used at least many dozens of time by Washington and their proconsuls and military brass abroad. A few examples that come off the top of my head, starting with was probably the worst because perpetrated against a “dear friend”:

    The Sigonella Incident.

    The whole story is in Wikipedia and is about the members of the PLO who hijacked the Italian cruiser Achille Lauro and who were later, in 1985, intercepted in midair while flying from Egypt to Tunisia and their Egyptian airliner forced to land in a U.S. military base in Italy. This is what happened then when the Italians refused to accept that the U.S. military had any jurisdiction over the perps on Italian soil:

    “A standoff occurred when 20 Carabinieri and 30 VAM (Vigilanza Areonautica Militare) contested for control of the plane with the 80 armed operatives of the U.S. Delta Force and SEAL Team Six. THAT’s my whole point. If you are one of those Italians and you have an out of control 5-star U.S. general screaming in your face “do what I tell you or I’ll nuke you” I don’t think that what’s written on a piece is going to give you so much calm or confidence.

    In the early 80s, when the Cold War had heated once again. things in the Caribbean had become pretty edgy, far more than they are now in the Black Sea and (once again) in the Newsweek/TIME was reported that still another hyperventilating, U.S. General Alexander “I’m in charge” Haig, had told Reagan: “Just give me the order, Mr. President, and I’ll turn the island (Cuba) in a parking lot”.

    Also, according to the leader of Pakistan in the early 2000s, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, in an interview to The Guardian: after 911, when Bush was planning his invasion of Afghanistan, the U.S. president had threatened him with nuking Pakistan if the Pakistani government refused to participate in his invasion of Afghanistan.

    It’s an extreme move, but so was 9/11 and the destruction of the Middle East. When Iraq and Libya challenged the Jewish Empire they were both physically destroyed.

    The idea is probably to stage a replay of Pearl Harbour (another “New Pearl Harbour”), with naval warfare and a final demonstation nuclear strike leading to Chinese capitulation. So, why would I bother arguing with you on this when you even come to the extreme to considering the very official U.S. threat against the leader of o country Pakistan, Gen. Parvez Musharraf, in the words of the personal representative of the President of the U.S. himself, that if he, Musharraf, wasn’t willing to get aboard the invasion of Afghanistan bandwagon, he better be prepared to see his country “bombed back to the Stone Age”, something of an isolated blunder than the embodiment of what U.S. foreign policy has been from all of its existence. I was referring to the fact that the USA had been using the NPT to pressure North Korea, Iran, Libya, Iraq, etc. to give up their nuclear weapons ambitions by sanctioning and/or invading those countries for non-compliance with the NPT. A good example of this behavior is the Bush Administration using the alleged WMD of Saddam Hussein to justify the invasion of Iraq. Libya is another example when Gaddafi dismantled his nuclear weapons programs only to be attacked by NATO forces leading to his public lynching in 2011. Iran is now the target of US sanctions for precisely the same reason why Gaddafi had to give up his nuclear weapons programs.

    What you’re claiming is that the NPT has ceased to have any effect due to the outrageous conduct of some US government officials towards foreign counties. That’s simply not true at all as the NPT is the one and only thing keeping the rest of the world from acquiring nuclear weapons which is exactly the point I was trying to make. The fact that the USA is a declared NWS does not give it the ability to employ ‘nuclear blackmail’ against non-NWS because that kind of behavior violates both the letter and spirit of the NPT. What matters is the NPT which is the one and only international treaty prohibiting non-NWS from acquiring nuclear weapons, not the size of the nuclear arsenal of the USA nor the number of its ICBMs and nuclear submarines which are irrelevant to the issue of nuclear proliferation as regulated today by the NPT. Any hostile act by the USA to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons would violate and invalidate its own NPT, thus paving the way for non-NWS to acquire nuclear weapons.

In the end perfectionist Kubrick gave up, and you can see the Soviet Ambassador in particular laughing outright as Strangelove wrestles with his Nazi conditioning. And you can lip-read Slim Pickens saying that ‘ Shoot-you could have a great weekend in Dallas’, changed on the sound-track to ‘Vegas’ after those Nazis, and numerous others, topped JFK.

    Speaking of Slim Pickens, the word is that Kubrick tricked him into believing that DS was actually a war drama instead of a comedy, a satirical take on the Cold War, so with all his antics and bluster, he is being very serious when playing his role of Major King Kong. Which of course works greatly for him and his character. Another piece of trivia, Peter Sellers was the actor Kubrick wanted playing King Kong, which would have been the fourth by him along with President Muffley, Doctor Strangelove and Cpt. Mandrake. But Sellers asked for too much money which forced Kubrick to look for some other actor so we have to thank Sellers for being too greedy.

    BTW, I think that arm-wrestling scene was improvised by Sellers, i.e. non-scripted, and it is true that he got every time the whole crew in stitches.

    While I agree with your assessment of and judgement on the criminal and violent behavior of the USA which violates every article in the UN Charter as well as international treaties such as the NPT, the fact remains that the UN still exists, as does the UNSC plus the worldwide regime for preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, consisting of an alphabet soup of international treaties and institutions such as the NPT, CTBT, IAEA, etc.

    The JCPOA is yet another example of an international treaty designed to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons which Trump withdrew from. That kind of reckless and lawless behavior on the part of the USA is counter-productive to its stated goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons as it has only spurred Iran towards the goal of acquiring nuclear weapons which expert estimates is less than a year from now.

    If the USA decides to abrogate the NPT as Trump did to the JCPOA, then every Jose, Ahmed and Kim would be free to acquire nuclear weapons, as the only LEGAL restrictions today are imposed by the NPT which would cease to exist.

    Your problem is that you have developed a severe case of tunnel vision, as there are some elements of the usual brainwashing practiced on the populace by the propaganda apparatus of the US worldwide empire-wannabe that are very conspicuous in your case, which make you oblivious to a reality about which at least 80% of the world population is deeply aware, mostly outside of North America and Western Europe. And that reality is that World politics and international diplomacy (if there is such thing) have vastly been dominated since WW2 by a global violent, intolerant, selfish and egocentric bully that will do anything and everything to get what he wants and when he wants it, no matter the means, tools or tricks he has to display to obtain it. And because of your brainwashing it is useless trying to reach you by explaining directly to you the situation, so I think the best way to explain it to you, is with an analogy, a little story which has been attributed to SS Chief Heinrich Himmler.

    It happened that, at some point during his reign, Himmler was suffering from some sort of illness, let’s say his liver was acting up. So he ordered his SS men to look out for the best specialist in Nazi Germany and to bring him to him. They went out and found such eminency, which happened to be…a Jew. They brought him anyway and the doctor treated Himmler and cured him and Himmler was so satisfied that he decided to keep him as his specialist. So they brought the doctor to his office once again, so Himmler himself could personally tell him. Upon hearing the news, the doctor became extremely uncomfortable and at the end he couldn’t help but mutter, shaking in his pants: “But, Herr Himmler…I’m a Jew..!”, The SS Chief then looked at him with a cold stare in his eyes and drily answered: “Herr doctor, WE are the ones who say here who is a Jew and who is not!”. Now, we know well what is behind those fabricated charges by the U.S.: if Washington for any reason decides to attack, to bomb, to invade Cuba (something rather unlikely in the present circumstances and improbable in the future) they will justify their aggression under the pretext that they are punishing Havana for sponsoring international terrorism no matter if those charges have absolutely no basis at all in reality. And they can do that with ANY country in the world. They may accuse any country, even a NATO ally, of whatever crime or illegality they will want (even the foggiest one, of being a threat for the National Security of the U.S.) as a pretext for their attacks because, as I said, Amerrica has named itself the global Himmler. It doesn’t matter if your country hasn’t done anything against her neighbors or against world peace, no matter if its government is fully democratic, peaceful and respectful of the rights of its citizens and respectful of its international obligations, for the world bully that is completely irrelevant.     That’s also false and another clear example that when you swallowed them, you swallowed them whole and the bigger the better. If you were the least informed on the subject you’d know that Iran has no intention, and has never had, of getting nuclear weapons. Had them wished to get them they would have easily obtained a few in the early 90s, when the Soviet Union had been just dismantled and there were many Soviet nukes lost and unaccounted for, some of them tactical nukes that could be transported even in a suitcase, or others in a van, and there were also many now jobless Soviet military officers with the capacity to confiscate a few and sell them in clandestine world markets. Iran could have also tried to get some help from Pakistan or North Korea but there is no evidence that they ever even tried. But the main argument against your baseless belief that they are in a race for the A-bomb is simply that they decided long ago NOT to get nukes for religious reasons, they say it goes against Islam, which shows how much you know about it, it is even in Wikipedia! (Ayatollah Khamenei says nuclear weapons are ‘forbidden under Islamic law’). In any case Israel is so small that thousands of Iran missiles carrying conventional warheads, which they have, could do as much damage without the problem of spreading radioactivity through the entire ME.

    Wrong again. Any country with the technical capabilities could develop its own program to obtain its own nukes and in fact more than one has done during the last decades:

    a) South Africa: During the apartheid regime they develop their own program and finally got about half a dozen nukes. Then, in the 1990s, they dismantled them voluntarily.
    b) Argentina: During the military dictatorships of the 60s and 70s the country started its own program to have the bomb and they were pretty advanced when democracy was restored and the program was abandoned.
    c) Brazil: Brazil has never developed either chemical or biological weapons. From the 1970s to the early 1990s, however, Brazil appeared to many outside experts to be using its robust nuclear energy program to develop a hedge capability for nuclear weapons development. Wikipedia.

    Which proves than in fact any country could start developing its own program for getting nuclear weapons and that the mean reason why those countries who have done until now so have finally dismantled their respective programs have done it mostly for diplomatic, political or economic reasons, above all to be, or to become, respected members of the international community, not because of some signatures on a piece of paper.

    But you got one thing right. When criminals break the law that law is made invalid for them, yet still runs for the rest of us, as long as those criminals belong to the gang we know as NATO.

What should happen is for countries that are non-NWS to seek the abolition of the NPT. As there are no TECHNICAL barriers to the acquisition of nuclear weapons, the abolition of the NPT would remove the LEGAL restrictions imposed by the NPT preventing non-NWS from acquiring nuclear weapons. Once the NPT goes away, then the nuclear genie will come out allowing every Jose, Ahmed and Kim to acquire nuclear weapons in the global arms bazaar in order to defend their countries and protect their people from US Imperialism.

I am sure that many former diplomats from many if not most countries in the world would be able to recall similar horror stories in which their president, PM, Minister of Foreign Relations or they themselves were subjected to all kinds of illicit pressures in some form or another (mainly verbal abuse, threats and even outright humiliation) by some goon from the US Dept. of State, or the US Ambassador or even the U.S. president himself telling them, rather ordering them “do what we say or else…” or “don’t that or we’ll bomb you back to the Stone Age”.

    I once read a book where some Latin American diplomats recall the 1962 OAS meeting called by the U.S. to vote on its motion to expel Cuba from the organization and where they recall of Washington envoys shamelessly pushing their weight around, verbally abusing and ordering Latin American diplomats to do what they wanted, using mob tactics to force them to vote their way. They even mention the case of one particular Latino diplomat who was brought to tears by the abuse and pressure endured at the hands of the Washington goons. In the end all what the world saw was the group photo and the final declaration when it is stated that by unanimity nations members have decided to expel Cuba from the OAS. But for everyone informed and who could read between the lines that was false, as false as U.S. diplomacy which is nothing but a mythical concept that, as much as the unicorn, the hobbits and Superman, exists only in fantasy literature.(*)What has really existed, even more since WW2, is Amerrican bullying, blackmailing and racketeering. And the man who knew all this better than anyone else, as he was himself one of those who was instrumental in building the worldwide empire-wannabe, Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler, wrote it as clear and as bluntly as it is possible:

    “I spent 33 years and four months in active military service, during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers….I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism….     So every time you read of some deal or agreement reached between the U.S. and some nation other than world superpowers like China or Russia, ot those who have kept their independence no matter what as Cuba, Iran, North Korea and a few others, when you come to part that says: “Both parties agree on this or on that…” take a pause and wonder if that was really the case because the most likely thing is that Washington used all the dirty tricks in its bag to force the other government, country, organization, to bend to its imperial will.

In this case it relates to the way the votes are conducted in the OAS, one vote for each country, which of course helps Washington in obtaining majorities simply pressuring, intimidating and forcing the smaller, weaker countries into voting in its favor because they are of course the easiest to intimidate, to manipulate and control. So we have the absurdity that in a typical OAS vote a country of barely 3 million carries the same weight than one of 200 million people. Which of course yields results that are a complete travesty.

    In that 1962 OAS vote, 13 countries voted for the American motion of expelling Cuba, while Cuba itself voted against and 6 countries abstained. Those countries were Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia and Mexico, which account for 75% of the total population of the member countries of the OAS. So you can clearly see the absurdity in this result, and the way the U.S. manages to obtain results that in nothing reflect the reality on the ground, by controlling and manipulating the same organizations it creates. Washington was able to expel Cuba from the OAS with the vote of 13 smaller and weaker countries which represent no more than 25% of the total OAS population while the will of those representing 75% of Latin Americans was simply ignored.
