There are certainly a number of reasons why the United States government is now only viewed favorably by the Israelis, but totally tone deaf foreign and economic policies have to be right up there in how the world sees Washington. Rather than conform to how other nations are expected to behave, the U.S. has elevated “exceptionalism” and “leader of the free world” nonsense to a dogma where it believes itself allowed to behave without restraint in defense of what it claims to be its interests. As all countries act in support of interests, that would at least be understandable but the odd thing is that the various constituencies that make up the U.S. government do not even have any clear vision of what is and is not good for the country and American people as a whole.

President Joe Biden’s recent labeling of Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “killer” combined with a threat to make Russia “pay a price” due to its alleged meddling in American elections is a perfect example of imperial over-reach by the clowns currently prowling the corridors of power in Washington. The not so thinly veiled threat was derived from an intelligence assessment that claimed that Russia had favored the candidacy of Donald Trump and had been circulating disinformation to damage Biden and his family. The assessment provided no evidence to back-up what was claimed, which was innocuous in any event, but it was enough to trigger a malaprop response from the U.S. president. The more canny Putin has responded by suggesting a live televised “debate” with Biden, who, refused to take up the offer, knowing that if he had he would have quite likely “gaffed” his way to incoherence.

Some other recent stories indicate both that Washington does not even know how to be nice to its friends and that the White House is hardly in control of what goes on its own doorstep. There is considerable discussion over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline which is planned to connect Russian gas with German customers. It would be good business for Russia and also for Germany since the gas is cheaper than other available supplies. The Trump Administration announced that it would oppose the project on “security grounds” and last week Secretary of State Tony Blinken stated that it was a bad deal because “this pipeline is a Russian geopolitical project intended to divide Europe and weaken European energy security.” He also warned that companies working on the pipeline must cease work immediately or face “harsh” U.S. sanctions. Most of the companies are Western European and nominally NATO allies of the U.S. and Nord Stream 2 will likely be completed for good economic reasons. Washington will throw a hissy fit, in part because it wants to sell the more expensive American gas to the Germans. Biden is, for what it’s worth, continuing and doubling down on the Trump policy towards the project. It is a totally unnecessary insult to America’s European allies, has nothing to do with national security, and if Washington kills the project, it will give fuel to anti-U.S. sentiment while also serving to increase tension with Russia.

Another story that keeps popping up in the British media concerns Washington’s unwillingness to deal with a driving incident in August 2019 that killed an English teenager. The driver of the car that struck motorbiker Harry Dunn was Anne Sacoolas, a U.S. citizen, whose husband worked in an unspecified job in intelligence at RAF Croughton, an airbase in central England. She was driving her husband’s SUV on the wrong side of the road and the British police initially charged her with “causing death by dangerous driving.” The U.S. Embassy quickly became involved, flying Sacoolas home on a military flight and reporting to the British authorities that she was protected by diplomatic immunity and would not be answerable for what had occurred. The British government and media did not agree and, in truth, Sacoolas was not necessarily covered by immunity because she was not a diplomat and was not performing any official function when the incident occurred. The British Foreign Office submitted a request for extradition so Sacoolas could face trial, but it was rejected by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Currently the parents of Harry Dunn are suing in a Virginia court for civil damages against Sacoolas and the U.S. judge has let the case proceed. Anne Sacoolas is reportedly in hiding and has offered to do community service in the U.S. while also making a cash donation to a suitable charity in Harry’s memory.

The tale has taken an interesting turn in that it has been suggested, though not confirmed, that Anne was an intelligence officer like her husband Jonathan, which may have been the motive for removing her from England in the first place. But the point is that Anne Sacoolas should have stayed in the UK, where she would have had a fair hearing over an incident that was ultimately an accident. Instead, the United States has chosen to play hard ball with a close ally and friend. The British public and media have not forgotten Anne Sacoolas and remain angry about how the U.S. responded to Harry’s death. It is reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has personally raised the issue of Sacoolas with both the Trump and Biden Administrations, stating that “We have always asked for extradition. The denial of that we have always seen as a denial of justice.” It would be the right thing to do from many perspectives to let the case be handled in British courts, but there is no sign that Washington will be accommodating.

So the beat goes on. Anyone who expected a change in tone in foreign policy due to the transition from Trump to Biden has to be disappointed. Insulting Russia’s leader, telling the Germans how to run their economy, and refusing a reasonable British extradition request are all in a day’s work for the White House, which appears to be oblivious to the damage that is being done to broad U.S. interests.

  1. The Anne Sacoolas affair brings to mind the near shoot-out at Heathrow when Israel was tipped off that one of its nationals on an incoming EL Al flight was to be arrested by Scotland Yard on an interpol warrant.

The Israeli crew barricaded the plane and armed themselves to resist. The plane was allowed to leave, and British officials were made to apologize.

‘Rules-based order’ doesn’t apply to the powerful.

  2. I’m not entirely sure of what “the tone” of US foreign policy means. For decades, the US has needed an “enemy” – real or imagined – for domestic policy, which, in turn, drives foreign policy. Trump didn’t alter foreign policy, he just stopped pretending it was something other than it was by removing the mask.

While accurate, the aristocratic ruling class definitely possess clear vision and awareness of what benefits the donor class – so guess who wins?. A startlingly good indicator of nation states with both a high quality of life and little obvious corruption is the degree to which money is successfully quarantined from the political system.

Trump drove NeoConDemocrats (e.g. Bill Kristol, George Will) out of the GOP. The incoming Harris/Biden administration embraces those NeoCon values. The change towards expanded foreign involvement was predictable.

Kamala Harris is 1/2 Indian. Why is anyone surprised that she sent her flunkies, Blinken & Biden, to provoke China?

I hope the #NeverTrump crazies like the foreign entanglement they voted for. Vice Führer Harris will start a Pacific War when she officially takes over.

the various constituencies that make up the U.S. government

    ?

This is an interesting question. Does the U.S. have any constituencies? The problem was created with the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which seemingly granted birth-right citizenship. Yet, this amendment was never ratified. The northern states forced it through during Reconstruction by reconstituting the southern states legislatures to exclude confederate soldiers and others who opposed it, replacing them with illiterate slaves. Even with this political stacking, it still failed the ratification process, but was accepted because of the hard feelings the north felt towards the south. But, as the years went by the Supreme Court didn’t want to touch it’s foundations, focusing on its evolved case law instead, because of fear of unsettling the case law that derived from it. In the 1950-60ss, there was an interest in getting the Supreme Court to rule on the birthright and 14th amendment itself, but the issue was skirted. They didn’t want to venture into that landmine. Today, the case law doesn’t agree with the public view that a person born here is automatically a citizen. Rather, the case law, although skimpy, requires the parents to show some form of legal residency, to grant birthright citizenship. But, in practice, this is not enforced. So, much of our electorate really is voting illegally — 160 million legal and illegal immigrants and their children. But, because the legal definition of “citizen” was never formally derived, because of this history of avoiding challenges to its case law, more liberal opinion in the Appeals courts have been straying from this lack of foundation, ruling citizenship is quite broad, merely requiring that a person show a connected interest to the country, without even having set foot here. So, this confused law has created a mess in which the country has no formal definition of citizenship. The country reflects this: it is just a mass of 328 million people who have no shared connections and no shared history. Truly, a nation without borders is not a country.

It is not the whole truth–huge segments of what passes in the US for “conservatives” also want the Russian people dead. It is largely a bipartisan consensus so no need to narrow the focus and the scope of the issue. They differ in approaches but those are merely means to the same end.

Well, the Democrats are in power right now. I’m not trying to give a weasel answer to what you are saying.

Now what I am about to write could be all wrong and delusional…but I’ll give it a try.

My sense is there has been growing respect for Putin the Man among Evangelical Christians and Conservative Catholics( the group I know best)…..but they would love to bomb the shit out of Iran which would put them on a collision course with Vladimir Putin and Russian Military.

With Democratic Party voters is always pure unadulterated hatred towards Putin and Russian very intense laser beam.

So I’m willing to go along with a generalized yes to what you wrote… but among rank and file White Evangelical Christians and Conservative Catholics I don’t sense the hatred. Remember, Trump’s 2016 POTUS campaign was “Hey…we can work with Putin and Russia” and this seemed to be popular among Trump Voters. Pope Francis is on very good terms with Vladimir Putin.

So I’ll say this: among the Republican White Working Class I don’t sense genocidal hatred towards the Slavic Russian Population. Not so among Democratic Party Voters. I mean is hatred towards Vladimir Putin part of Evangelical Christian Minister Sermons every Sunday? I don’t now.

Now here is an experiment to test your claim: Sean Hannity…Irish Catholic…has already started the Putin bashing with gusto. I want to see how his audience reacts to this.

So, I am most definitely not dismissing what you have posted….but I sense cracks and rays of sanity…I HOPE I am right about this….I HOPE…I’ll report back on this…

I don’t want the Russian people dead.

I met and talked with a Russian woman at a party in the States and I came away with a great deal of respect for her. She said that she wasn’t sure that moving to the USA was really in her best interests and that she would likely go back to Russia. She admitted that while it was true that one had more opportunity here (or a bewildering array of choices) there was such uncertainty due to e.g. the cost of rent and healthcare, that the tradeoff was not worth it. She spoke candidly, forthrightly and without apology. She was bright, attractive and articulate–the perfect marriage partner.

Some western men may have been put off by her strong opinions and her ability to coherently defend them, but I believe that a solid partnership is made up of two people of roughly equal ability and drive. Marriage is not all about the man dominating the woman–as too much Alt-Right Game stuff has it. Marriage is more like climbing a ladder. As one hand and foot let go, the other must hold tight onto the ground gained. Ideally, the partners alternate in those roles.

If the partners are not roughly matched in inclination and strength, then little or no progress is made. One has to hold fast while the other lets go, one is static while the other is dynamic, otherwise there’s no forward progress. If one is too weak or timid or let’s go of what has been attained (such as by having an extramarital affair) then the relationship falls apart.

I don’t know what this has to do with the subject at hand, but I did admire her for her strength and willingness to confront things head on. If her’s is any indication of the character of the Russian people then I think the USA, in picking a fight with them, may have bitten off more than it can chew.

At risk of being controversial – so-called “Christians” who prostrate themselves in adoration of the genocidal “Chosen People” currently occupying the nasty little Nazi State of Apartheid Israel, should really step back and take a forensic look at their fatally contorted belief systems.

Jesus had something to say about these people – “the blind leading the blind”, or something to that effect. He also accused the people having direct lineage to our current-day “Chosenites” of being Satan’s children.

Jews must have differing loyalties between individuals. They are not some sort of group mind. Many Jews plainly have dual loyalties, but some keep it quiet. Some are loyal only to the USA, others only to the Holy State. Those positions may change over time, and some might even have several loyalties or affections, and others none, or to humanity as a whole.

    The Jewish Persecution of Christianity

    Rev. Giuseppe Oreglia di Santo Stefano, S.J. (27 March 1823-October 29, 1895)

How since the beginning the Christians have not persecuted the Jews, but rather the Jews have always persecuted the Christians.

Since—even not wanting to take into account those many Jews and non-Jews, who possessed by Satan, by demons or by spirits, that is, moved by a satanic hatred of the Christian name, and for this always ready not only to swallow but also to cook up every day calumnies and paradoxes as long as they shame and spite Christianity: and therefore, like every other error and lie, they easily admit this one specifically concerning the Christian persecution of the Jews—even, we mean to say, without wanting to take these into account, it is nevertheless sufficiently clear that right now there are even among the not unlearned and bad Christians those who, frequently and too easily allowing themselves to eat the food made by their enemies, willingly lend them their faith, as in the rest, also in this most false point: that is, that it was not the Jews that always persecuted Christianity above all else, and even now continue to fiercely do so, but that instead the Christians always have and continue even now to persecute the Jews wherever and whenever they can. So much so that, thanks no less to Jewish perfidy than to our own gullibility, it now passes as definitive and incontrovertible that the Jewish people is a martyr people and we Christians are therefore its tyrants and its executioners. For this, the Jew, among us, rightly laughs at us. Take for example the Vessillo israelitico [Israelite Banner] of Casale, which on page 47 of its February issue of the year 1886 clearly reports triumphantly that Pietro Sbarbaro, in his periodical Le Forche Caudine [The Caudine Forks], on 13 January 1885, wrote, “I cannot, without trembling, fix my attention on the long and infamous epic of the misfortunes and the secular martyrdom of the glorious Jewish race.” How the Ghettos must laugh seeing one who boasts of being a Christian proclaim a glorious martyr the Jewish race and cruelly attack his own Christian race! And if only many other Christians more knowledgeable than Sbarbaro, which doesn’t take much, did not daily say even worse—by which the Jews are prodigiously emboldened and hold us in profound contempt…

What will Putin’s response be if Russian Soldiers are slaughtered by US Soldiers in Syria?…..for they are driving only a few feet from each other in Syria right now….

Both Russian and US troops on the ground in Syria are professionals and follow orders. One of those orders is to avoid direct confrontation. Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s Defense Minister, was explicit a week ago when underscored that on both tactical and operational levels Russians and Americans have a very close communications and unless some psycho in D.C. gives a suicidal order to engage Russians on the ground, I think we should be OK for now. If, God forbids, the order comes and Russian troops die as a direct result of American hostile action, well…US troops will die too. Simple as that.

Second question:in the event of an Azov Brigade slaughter of pregnant Russian Women in Donbass…will the Russian Military target US Special Forces advisors to the Nazi Azov Brigade with Iskander missiles?

Russia can do it even without Iskander missiles–Russia’s arsenal of stand-off weapons is pretty terrifying, plus Russia happens to have superb special forces of her own. The issue here is much larger–IF Ukraine decides to attack Donbas. Russia has many options here and who knows which one will be used.

An equally valid concern, how will the Harris/Biden regime respond if Russian soldiers butcher U.S. troops?

Khameni wants to escalate the violence in Syria. Iranian al’Hezbollah terrorists could stage false flag attacks both directions masquerading as Russian and U.S. troops. One has to hope that the back channels between military professionals would detect and expose the deception in time.

You’ve got it backwards; it’s “foreign policy” that drives domestic policy.

Yes, but Christians have no political influence. Over the years they tried to stop or ban gay marriage, abortion, pornography, violence on TV, obscene music lyrics, etc., but always failed. So if Washington supports Israel, it’s not because “Christian Zionists” (a paper tiger) demand it.

Christian Zionists are, however, a convenient distraction from the real power behind U.S. support for Israel.
