What’s going on in the fifth largest economy in the world arguably points to a major collusion scandal in which the French government is helping Big Pharma to profit from the expansion of Covid-19. Informed French citizens are absolutely furious about it.

My initial question to a serious, unimpeachable Paris source, jurist Valerie Bugault, was about the liaisons dangereuses between Macronism and Big Pharma and especially about the mysterious “disappearance” – more likely outright theft – of all the stocks of chloroquine in possession of the French government.

Respected Professor Christian Perronne talked about the theft live in one of France’s 24/7 info channels: “The central pharmacy for the hospitals announced today that they were facing a total rupture of stocks, that they were pillaged.”

With input from another, anonymous source, it’s now possible to establish a timeline that puts in much-needed perspective the recent actions of the French government.

Let’s start with Yves Levy, who was the head of INSERM – the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research – from 2014 to 2018, when he was appointed as extraordinary state councilor for the Macron administration. Only 12 people in France have reached this status.

Levy is married to Agnes Buzy, who until recently was minister of health under Macron. Buzy was essentially presented with an “offer you can’t refuse” by Macron’s party to leave the ministry – in the middle of the coronavirus crisis – and run for Mayor of Paris, where she was mercilessly trounced in the first round on March 16.

Levy has a vicious running feud with Professor Didier Raoult – prolific and often-cited Marseille-based specialist in communicable diseases. Levy withheld the INSERM label from the world-renowned IHU (Hospital-University Institute) research center directed by Raoult.

In practice, in October 2019, Levy revoked the status of “foundation” of the different IHUs so he could take over their research.

Raoult was part of a clinical trial that in which hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin healed 90% of Covid-19 cases if they were tested very early. (Early, massive testing is at the heart of the successful South Korean strategy.)

Raoult is opposed to the total lockdown of sane individuals and possible carriers – which he considers “medieval,” in an anachronistic sense. He’s in favor of massive testing (which, besides South Korea, was successful in Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam) and a fast treatment with hydroxychloroquine. Only contaminated individuals should be confined.

Chloroquine costs one euro for ten pills. And there’s the rub: Big Pharma – which, crucially, finances INSERM, and includes “national champion” Sanofi – would rather go for a way more profitable solution. Sanofi for the moment says it is “actively preparing” to produce chloroquine, but that may take “weeks,” and there’s no mention about pricing.

A minister fleeing a tsunami

Here’s the timeline:

On January 13, Agnes Buzyn, still France’s Health Minister, classifies chloroquine as a “poisonous substance,” from now on only available by prescription. An astonishing move, considering that it has been sold off the shelf in France for half a century.

On March 16, the Macron government orders a partial lockdown. There’s not a peep about chloroquine. Police initially are not required to wear masks; most have been stolen anyway, and there are not enough masks even for health workers. In 2011 France had nearly 1.5 billion masks: 800 million surgical masks and 600 million masks for health professionals generally.

But then, over the years, the strategic stocks were not renewed, to please the EU and to apply the Maastricht criteria, which limited membership in the Growth and Stability Pact to countries whose budget deficits did not exceed 3% of GDP. One of those in charge at the time was Jerome Salomon, now a scientific counselor to the Macron government.

On March 17, Agnes Buzyn says she has learned the spread of Covid-19 will be a major tsunami, for which the French health system has no solution. She also says it had been her understanding that the Paris mayoral election “would not take place” and that it was, ultimately, “a masquerade.”

What she does not say is that she didn’t go public at the time she was running because the whole political focus by the Macron political machine was on winning the “masquerade.” The first round of the election meant nothing, as Covid-19 was advancing. The second round was postponed indefinitely. She had to know about the impending healthcare disaster. But as a candidate of the Macron machine she did not go public in timely fashion.

In quick succession:

The Macron government refuses to apply mass testing, as practiced with success in South Korea and Germany.

Le Monde and the French state health agency characterize Raoult’s research as fake news, before issuing a retraction.

Professor Perrone reveals on the 24/7 LCI news channel that the stock of chloroquine at the French central pharmacy has been stolen.

Thanks to a tweet by Elon Musk, President Trump says chloroquine should be available to all Americans. Sufferers of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, who already have supply problems with the only drug that offers them relief, set social media afire with their panic.

US doctors and other medical professionals take to hoarding the medicine for the use of themselves and those close to them, faking prescriptions to indicate they are for patients with lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

Morocco buys the stock of chloroquine from Sanofi in Casablanca.

Pakistan decides to increase its production of chloroquine to be sent to China.

Switzerland discards the total lockdown of its population; goes for mass testing and fast treatment; and accuses France of practicing “spectacle politics.”

Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, having had himself treated with chloroquine, without any government input, directly calls Sanofi so they may deliver chloroquine to Nice hospitals.

ORDER IT NOW

Because of Raoult’s research, a large-scale chloroquine test finally starts in France, under the – predictable – direction of INSERM, which wants to “remake the experiments in other independent medical centers.” This will take at least an extra six weeks – as the Elysee Palace’s scientific council now mulls the extension of France’s total lockdown to … six weeks.

If joint use of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin proves definitely effective among the most gravely ill, quarantines may be reduced in select clusters.

The only French company that still manufactures chloroquine is under judicial intervention. That puts the chloroquine hoarding and theft into full perspective. It will take time for these stocks to be replenished, thus allowing Big Pharma the leeway to have what it wants: a costly solution.

It appears the perpetrators of the chloroquine theft were very well informed.

Bagged nurses

This chain of events, astonishing for a highly developed G-7 nation proud of its health service, is part of a long, painful process embedded in neoliberal dogma. EU-driven austerity mixed with the profit motive resulted in a very lax attitude towards the health system.

As Bugault told me, “test kits – very few in number – were always available but mostly for a small group connected to the French government [ former officials of the Ministry of Finance, CEOs of large corporations, oligarchs, media and entertainment moguls]. Same for chloroquine, which this government did everything to make inaccessible for the population.

They did not make life easy for Professor Raoult – he received death threats and was intimidated by ‘journalists.’

And they did not protect vital stocks. Still under the Hollande government, there was a conscious liquidation of the stock of masks – which had existed in large quantities in all hospitals. Not to mention that the suppression of hospital beds and hospital means accelerated under Sarkozy.”

This ties in with anguished reports by French citizens of nurses now having to use trash bags due to the lack of proper medical gear.

At the same time, in another astonishing development, the French state refuses to requisition private hospitals and clinics – which are practically empty at this stage – even as the president of their own association, Lamine Garbi, has pleaded for such a public service initiative: “I solemnly demand that we are requisitioned to help public hospitals. Our facilities are prepared. The wave that surprised the east of France must teach us a lesson.”

Bugault reconfirms the health situation in France “is very serious and will become even worse due to these political decisions – absence of masks, political refusal to massively test people, refusal of free access to chloroquine – in a context of supreme distress at the hospitals. This will last and destitution will be the norm.”

Professor vs president

In an explosive development on Tuesday, Raoult said he’s not participating in Macron’s scientific council anymore, even though he’s not quitting it altogether. Raoult once again insists on massive testing on a national scale to detect suspected cases, and then isolate and treat patients who tested positive. In a nutshell: the South Korean model.

That’s exactly what is expected from the IHU in Marseille, where hundreds of residents continue to queue up for testing. And that ties in with the conclusions by a top Chinese expert on Covid-19, Zhang Nanshan, who says that treatment with chloroquine phospate had a “positive impact,” with patients testing negative after around four days.

The key point has been stressed by Raoult: Use chloroquine in very special circumstances, for people tested very early, when the disease is not advanced yet, and only in these cases. He’s not advocating chloroquine for everyone. It’s exactly what the Chinese did, along with their use of Interferon.

For years, Raoult has been pleading for a drastic revision of health economic models, so the treatments, cure and therapies created mostly during the 20th century, are considered a patrimony in the service of all humanity.“That’s not the case”, he says, “because we abandon medicine that is not profitable, even if it’s effective. That’s why almost no antibiotics are manufactured in the West.”

On Tuesday, the French Health Ministry officially prohibited the utilization of treatment based on chloroquine recommended by Raoult. In fact the treatment is only allowed for terminal Covid-19 patients, with no other possibility of healing. This cannot but expose the Macron government to more accusations of at least inefficiency – added to the absence of masks, tests, contact tracing and ventilators.

On Wednesday, commenting on the new government guidelines, Raoult said, “When damage to the lungs is too important, and patients arrive for reanimation, they practically do not harbor viruses in their bodies any more. It’s too late to treat them with chloroquine. Are these the only cases – the very serious cases – that will be treated with chloroquine under the new directive by [French Health Minister] Veran?” If so, he added ironically, “then they will be able to say with scientific certainty that chloroquine does not work.”

Raoult was unavailable for comment on Western news media articles citing Chinese test results that would suggest he is wrong about the efficacy of chloroquine in dealing with mild cases of Covid-19.

Staffers pointed instead to his comments in the IHU bulletin. There Raoult says it’s “insulting” to ask if we can trust the Chinese on the use of chloroquine. “If this was an American disease, and the president of the United States said, ‘We need to treat patients with that,’ nobody would discuss it.”

In China, he adds, there were “enough elements so the Chinese government and all Chinese experts who know coronaviruses took an official position that ‘we must treat with chloroquine.’ Between the moment when we have the first results and an accepted international publication, there is no credible alternative among people who are the most knowledgeable in the world. They took this measure in the interest of public health.”

Crucially: if he had coronavirus, Raoult says he would take chloroquine. Since Raoult is rated by his peers as the number one world expert in communicable diseases, way above Dr. Anthony Fauci in the US, I would say the new reports represent Big Pharma talking.

ORDER IT NOW

Raoult has been mercilessly savaged and demonized by French corporate media that are controlled by a few oligarchs closely linked to Macronism. Not by accident the demonization has reached gilets jaunes (yellow vest) levels, especially because of the extremely popular hashtag #IlsSavaient (“They knew”), with which the yellow vests stress that French elites have “managed” the Covid-19 crisis by protecting themselves while leaving the population defenseless against the virus.

That ties in with the controversial analysis by crack philosopher Giorgio Agamben in a column published a month ago, where he was already arguing that Covid-19 clearly shows that the state of exception – similar to a state of emergency but with differences important to philosophers – has become fully normalized in the West.

Agamben was speaking not as a doctor or a virologist but as a master thinker, following in the steps of Foucault, Walter Benjamin and Hannah Arendt. Noting how a latent state of fear has metastasized into a state of collective panic, for which Covid-19 “offers once again the ideal pretext,” he described how, “in a perverse vicious circle, the limitation of freedom imposed by governments is accepted in the name of a desire for security that was induced by the same governments that now intervene to satisfy it.”

There was no state of collective panic in South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam – to mention four Asian examples outside of China. A dogged combination of mass testing and contact tracing was applied with immense professionalism. It worked. In the Chinese case, with the help of chloroquine. And in all Asian cases, without a murky profit motive to the benefit of Big Pharma.

There hasn’t yet appeared the smoking gun that proves the Macron system not only is incompetent to deal with Covid-19 but also is dragging the process so Big Pharma can come up with a miracle vaccine, fast. But the pattern to discourage chloroquine is more than laid out above – in parallel to the demonization of Raoult.

To clarify: chloroquine and like agents are antimalarials which also have immunosuppressive properties. They are used in COVID19 to dampen the acute respiratory distress syndrome [ARDS], the pathologic exaggerated immune response which is the cause of most COVID19 fatalities.
It is not without significant side effects (eg retinopathy).
Nevertheless, any suspicions about big pharma’s motives in this context are warranted.
It has been suggested that a profitable class of antihypertensives (ACE inhibitors) is linked with worse COVID19 outcomes.

  3. Much as I am inclined to dismiss conspiracy theorists as composed of 3 parts paranoia, 3 parts of boundless credulity and the rest a variety of neuroses, I have an unease about dismissing this out of hand, IF the claims made against the Macronists are true–or even halfway true.
I am not addicted to watching the TV, even less so when it is dominated by Coved 19, but about 5 days ago, IIRC, I caught about half of news snippet about the theft of Chloroquine which interested me instantly, as I had taken it as an anti-malarial prophyllactic about 35 years ago when working briefly in Cameroon.
Boxes of the pills were in one of the offices, which one I can’t remember, but it was easy enough for the locals to help themselves (for which they could be fired for theft).
I had my own, which my doctor here in Scotland had prescribed for me, and as per, I read the accompanying blurb, which had an unusual warning: it stated that unless the user was of 100% Northern European descent, they should first be tested, as it tended to cause eyesight problems (including eventually, if taken too long, blindness!) in anyone with genetics originating, or even partly originating, in Southern n Europe or lower.
I has seen Africans thieving handfuls of pills from the rig, but I closed my eyes to it for two reasons:
They were paid a fraction of what we were, and I wasn’t going to get a man sacked for taking a handful of pills that were cheap ( to us) that could prevent him ,or his nearest and dearest, from a disabling-to- deadly disease. I warned them about the possible consequences, but, being African, they preferred to take that risk.
Sometime later, chloroquine was superseded by some other anti-malarial.
Hooda thunk that 30 years later I might have ask an African if he could return the favour and swipe ME me a few pills if they were still available!!

  4. It is not just the French government that seeks to destroy the economy and kill perhaps a million of the French to make money. A friend who runs an elder care facility near Guadalajara reports that he could not find chloroquine there either. Clearly the Mexican government seeks to destroy Mexico for Big Pharma. I Have seen on the web that Australia
has fund that another antimalarial drug prevents death in one hundred percent of cases. So th Australian government also is seeing to kills its people. Reliable reportsexist of flying sauces hovering over Canberra. Strange lights have been seen glowing over Roswell…

  5. Well, well, the Gallic version of Pig Pharma is working ‘cloven hoof in cloven hoof’ with the Rothschild-controlled Macron government to (briefly) falsify the current medical science as to chloroquine so as to ultimately maximize the profit-making potential from the Covid-19 ‘pandemic’, no matter how many commoners die, eh?

Oh, and likewise stealing the French nation’s previously existing supply of chloroquine to insure there would be none for the hoi polloi sheeples, while making it illegal to sell the stuff over-the-counter (i.e., without prescription), AND illegal to prescribe it for Covid-19 treatment currently except in terminal cases (where it is 100% useless), eh?

So where’s the French media in all of this? On that Pepe relates:

“Raoult has been mercilessly savaged and demonized by French corporate media that are controlled by a few oligarchs closely linked to Macronism.”

That’s Pepe being his normal PC self, i.e. being afraid to say who these media/financial oligarchs actually are. Well, I’m not afraid.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s those damned IRISH.

The Rothschilds are well-known Irish bankster-gangsters.

And Yves Levy is clearly an Irish name, with Agnes Buzy also having a 100% pure Irish background (see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnès_Buzyn).

And we know Hollande and Sarkozy are both fine Irish lads.

Boy, I sure am glad our country is run by kindly, caring, generous jews and their adorable shabbos-goys and not those damned greedy, selfish Irish people who have clearly taken over France and are running it straight into the ground…….

Since March 17th the pin on my twitter profile promotes the preventive use of chloroquine to treat the Novel Coronovirus. I’ve been following the debate about this anti-malarial (polio and yellow fever) drug closely. I like Escobar’s article, but there are several problems with it, that even I, as a proponent of chloroquine cannot ignore.

First, the claim that Agnes Buzyn (mispelled twice in the article as “Buzy”), classified the drug as a poison, thus requiring prescription.

this is false. Chloroquine, in its market French form known as Nivaquine, was never over the counter. Never. In fact very few Western countries ever sold it over the counter. In most US states, it was prescription based. It is lethal when used inappropriately.

Second, with all due respect to Dr. Raoult, he is absolutely wrong about viral load in terminal stages of Covid-19. Corona virus is anything but low or nearly absent. In fact, its viral load is extremely high and a good measure of patient outcome at admission, and no amount of antiviral treatment can reduce it on its own at this point. Raoult was either trying to say that corona is not the cause of mortality, which is technically true, or like 99% of doctors fighting Corona, has no grasp of what the virus actually does.

The gist of the Escobar article is problematic. Nothing concrete about how Sanofi or Big Pharma is planning on cashing in by delaying chloroquine production. Last week Sanofi donated 300,000 “dosses” of chloroquine to the United States. The drug has been around for 60 years and is listed by the WHO as a required drug in all medical systems with required possibilities of local production. The criteria of which are known only to experts.

As for the theory that chloroquine supplies have been pilfered…my French sources told me supplies had been seized. Macron may be pursuing a policy of herd immunity, but doesn’t have the political luxury of being public about it, and a little less literalism is a helpful corrective for wild speculation. Herd immunity strategies cannot be pursued openly, being political (reelection) liabilities.

Far far more important to the coronovirus debate is how one is supposed to cure with vaccines, if the jury is still out on acquired immunity. One cannot work without the other, suggesting that the MSM acceptance of possible vaccine treatment ipso facto means acquired immunity is a given, but that’s not the way the MSM and governments are presenting this, suggesting that either vaccines cannot possibly work, or that immunity is being aquired as we speak, while the facade of a fight is kept up.

  12. @gfhÄndel

It is not without significant side effects (eg retinopathy).

You can only get this from regular, long-term use. Arguably, the bigger issue is that it can give you heart problems, if you overdose on it.

Indian government officially recommends Hydroxychloroquine for prophylactic use. They think that taking it can prevent you from getting infected. India banned exports of the drug.

Pepe, can you authenticate this item from your timeline? Unlike the others there is no link.

On January 13, Agnes Buzyn, still France’s Health Minister, classifies chloroquine as a “poisonous substance,” from now on only available by prescription. An astonishing move, considering that it has been sold off the shelf in France for half a century.

If true, the timing for this directive would be very suspicious.

Not speaking French, I am not in a strong position to verify or rebut this claim.

That said, I did a cursory search on Google. The search engine does not make it easy to search for older articles. Ten years ago the web presented you with a vast horizon of personal websites, blogs, and news articles stretching back to the early days of Usenet mailing lists and Netscape. Today if you Google anything, even using the most precise series of keywords, you will be preferentially presented with pages of recent articles and corporate websites.

To combat against this tendency and concentrate this search within a specific timeframe, say only in January, you can use parameters such as the following:

    chloroquine Agnes Buzyn after:2020-1-01 before:2020-1-31

One article that I came up with is the following. It would seem to suggest that whatever restriction was put in place on chloroquine was also instituted for other drugs as well:

France tightens (further) rules on sale of paracetamol and ibuprofen

    https://www.thelocal.fr/20200113/france-could-tughed-rules-on-sales-of-paracetemol-and-ibuprofen/amp

From Wednesday, January 15th, painkillers like Doliprane, Dafalgam or Advil can no longer be picked up directly off the shelves by customers in pharmacies.

Instead these kind of over-the-counter drugs will all be placed behind the counter, so that while they do not need a prescription, customers will still have to ask the pharmacist if they want to purchase them.

This is already the case in some pharmacies in France but French health regulator ANSM wants it to become the norm in order to stem the over-use of the drugs and the associated health risks. Over-use of paracetamol for example can use damage to the liver.

The measure will affect around 36 different brands of paracetamol including Doliprane, Efferalgan, Dafalgan and 46 kinds of ibuprofen including Advil and Nurofen.

“The ANSM would like the drugs to no longer be placed in free access and instead are all placed behind the counter of the pharmacy, which would strengthen its role of advising patients,” said the agency earlier this year.

Coronavirus : Agnès Buzyn a-t-elle interdit la vente libre de chloroquine en pleine épidémie

Since this decree, the hydroxychloroquine molecule marketed under the name of Plaquenil is therefore no longer available over the counter. A prescription from a doctor is now mandatory. But this new classification, which came into effect in January, contrary to what some conspiratorial publications suggest, predates the appearance of the new coronavirus. Its cousin, chloroquine, appears on this list “in injectable and oral form”, since a decree taken in 1999.

As LCI explains, the National Health Security Agency (ANSES) had been asked for an opinion on a proposal for an order to include hydroxychloroquine in List II of poisonous substances in October 2019, “in order to ensure appropriate patient care ”. Two months before the appearance of the new coronavirus in China.
ANSES had given the green light on November 12, 2019. It is therefore false and dishonest to claim that the former Minister of Health, Ms. Buzyn, would have made this decision herself during the Covid-19 epidemic.

  19. This Covid is a killer. But I want to point out the fact that the infection appears to disproportionately impact those of the Jewish faith. We are seeing this in Brooklyn and NYC in general. This must be stopped.

In the mid-twentieth century we lost six million Jewish people to the Nazi gas chambers. Can we ignore the potential loss of another six million due to Covid19? We cannot.

I propose we protect this most vulnerable population as quickly as possible. The U.S. could easily build special camps in Nevada and California where people could be quarantined for the duration of this pandemic. These facilities could include swimming pools, theaters, brothels, bakeries and infirmaries. Some type of work could be provided to those protected so they felt engaged and productive.

Once the pandemic has passed, the folks there could return to their work in making movies, publishing newspapers and making loans to others who were fortunate enough to survive the pandemic.

It’s just an idea. The details need to be fleshed out.

Good health is indeed a very important factor in Big Medicine’s public engagement. So, too, revenues and profits, autonomy of practice, fee for service, overwhelming influence and downright control of the distribution of medicine for its own purposes, etc. Will elements of Big Medicine sacrifice good health for those other factors?

Yes. But you have to look at discrete instances to see how Big Medicine’s players are tempted to go outright criminal. See, for example, the oxycodone killings.

The Israeli company is one of the world’s largest makers of hydroxychloroquine, a less-toxic version of chloroquine…

Bragging about initially giving it away for free may be just a guerrilla marketing campaign, as they will certainly charge much more for it later.

Note the so-called “side effects” associated with this apparently still toxic hydroxychloroquine, from Wikipedia:

Common side effects include vomiting, headache, changes in vision and muscle weakness…
For short-term treatment of acute malaria, adverse effects can include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, heart problems, reduced appetite, headache, nausea and vomiting.

A person would be nuts to want to take this prophylactically, as was alluded to in two prior comments. Perhaps it would be less onerous to just sweat out the primary disease. This prophylactic approach is the latest scam that the pharmaceutical industry has been pushing onto the medical establishment in the past few years , having the effect of ultimately killing off many older people prematurely.

The news about hydroxychloroquine reminds me about the big hype in the 1980s surrounding a widely recommended “therapy” using the toxic drug AZT (azidothymidine), which was heavily – often blindly – prescribed by physicians to healthy people who had merely tested positive for the presence of alleged “HIV antibodies” on a test whose significance was unclear. The AZT then inevitably made them sick with some of those symptoms (“side effects”) that were included among the nearly thirty different conditions that had been defined as constituting the syndrome popularly known as “AIDS”. Eventually tens of thousands of men died from the toxic effects of the AZT. The popular euphemism was then: “They died of AIDS”, which was technically true, based on the generously self-fulfilling – essentially circular –definition of that term.

In light of this historical background one ought to be skeptical and wonder if the goal is actually to kill suffering old patients with hydroxychloroquine, make a huge profit from elevated prices, and then say that these patients died from the effects of the corona virus. This scandal article by Escobar tends to feed such possible future frenzy.

Quinine, Malaria, and Tonic Water- The Relationship

    Some facts:

1] Quinine is an anti-malarial drug for which the patent has expired, [making it far less profitable to drug co.s]

2] As I understand it, in days of yore, British military stationed in foreign countries where malaria was a constant danger, a daily dose of gin and tonic[water] was recommended/prescribed to those in the military because the tonic water contained the drug quinine, which apparently prevented malaria.

3] Modern tonic water, which you can buy at most “normal” supermarkets/stores, still contains quinine. Health food stores now usually carry tonic waters absent the sugars or artificial sweeteners present in most big name brands such as Canada Dry.

So if tonic water is still generally available in France, then the drug quinine is also still readily available to those who want to use it.

    Hi tomo!

    Yes, I would believe it.

I was a partner in a law firm where I was ultimately responsible for all civil litigation we handled. I was continually shocked and disgusted by what I saw. It was incredible. People’s lives have absolutely zero value to these monsters at the top, who have gotten where they are because they are so ruthless and selfish.

We, as a society, carefully select for these psychopathic types in all high-level competitive endeavors where large sums are hanging in the balance. Their only loyalty is 1.) to themselves; 2.) to the shareholders/partners, firmly in that order, and they are VERY highly rewarded for it. That the commoner’s well being holds no value to them aside from how it can be exploited to their businesses’ advantage, is a truism revealed and reinforced daily. The Ford Pinto, Dalkon Shield and other horrifying high profile cases (from the era when I practiced) come immediately to mind.

Pig Pharma is by no means alone in their utter disregard for the everyday man and woman, it’s just that we intuitively expect people in the medical field to want to heal the sick, not prolong it. But as the Wall Street analysts remind the heads of Pig Pharma on a daily basis: curing disease is a bad business model. Prolonging and worsening illness, just short of death, is optimal. Just ask the lovely Sackler family.

Very sad to learn it’s as bad or worse across the pond, but I guess that’s to be expected.

I suspect the worst of it exists in the military environment, where service men and women are apparently routinely used as guinea pigs, and often completely unknowingly. But at least they know when they sign up that they are 100% expendable…..

Hydroxyxhloroquine is antimalarial ,works on the DNA , and accumulates in white blood cells . Corona virus is RNA. Possible other mechanism includes suppression of T lymphocytes , decreased white blood cell migration to the injured area ,stabilization of lysosomal enzymes which means the enzymes that can attack pathogen and also human normal cells are being prevented from release from inside the immune cells and suppression of DNA and RNA synthesis.

I am not aware that has ever been to be effective against any virus in the past.
It doesn’t work on the Angiotensin receptor or signal transduction down stream .

Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquione are used for Rheumatoid arthritis but they dont alter the bone damages They are not very effective DMARDs ( disease modifying anti rheumatic drugs ) .It is also used against Graft versus Host rejection . Not effective enough.

Any antiviral medicine has to work on one of these sites or on combination of these sites- attachment of virus to cells, f penetration ( nucleus) , uncoating, protien synthesis , nucleic acid synthesis, packaging , and assembly of new virus , then the last part -viral release from cell to attack new cells. Hydroxychloroquine is not known to attack any of these processes .

Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are known to work differently in rheumatoid and graft vs host disease or in some patients with SLE.

I am not sure if these 2 can be considered as an orphan drug and approved by FDA

I am not sure how French jumped to the idea that this medication would work ( usually a possible mechanism of action or anecdotal data have to be furnished before trying or have two have animal data )

So let’s not celebrate French microbiologist or IHU and jump to some theories on the behaviors of French ministers or pharmaceuticals.

  59. Turk 152 says:

The shortage could also be a matter of the medical beaurocracy at play. A primary driver in physicians actions is whether or not they will be sued. If they prescribe malaria medication for covid-19, a use that has not gone through clinical trials and FDA approval, could they be sued if someone dies? They may expect it to work, which is why they are hoarding for themselves and their family. But, if someone dies while being treated by ventilator, they have no exposure because it is currently within medical guidelines.

In contrast, Chinese doctors can and are solving the problem through trial and error. One doctor tries a medication on a patient and if the patient recovers he can communicate to other doctors to try the medication. They dont have a system in which an attorney looking for cash shows up if an already dying patient dies anyway.

This is a big problem for the US that is going to lead to many unnecessary deaths.

Its too early to say if malaria med works It has no theoretical underpinnings that it would work , Its a mild immunospressnats in certain cases of RA SLE and Sjorgen syndrome and HVG disease ( all are auto-immunological in origin ).Not useful in acute flare up .

.Immunosuppression in Flu is yet to be the issue given the fact most of those dying have underlying immunosuppression . Elderly are profoundly immunosuppressed . But they are dying from respiratory failures
Second the immunosupreession is not one monolithic entity meaning that different ways of suppressing immunity works for different diseases .

All Corona virus flu are not in ARDS . Will those with ARDS respond to thsi med ? No data other than anecdotal and incomplete data from France .

Will those without ARDS worsen from immunosuppression from this med ?

Steroid is avoided in Corona virus and not even recommended for ARDS .

Resistance to influenza come from preexisting neutralizing Ig A antibody preventing the virus to reach respiratory epithelium or later from the interferon – a response mounted after infection. Both are immunologic response .

More specific antibody arises after 2 weeks . None of these are known to be affected by anti malarial med .

So question is can this reduce viremia symptoms or mortality ? French studies shows it can but this is yet to be replicated and yet to pass full scrutiny as far methodology is concerned .

Next question can it prevent or cure ARDS? We dont know . that data are not available .

Medical community should try to find if immunological complication of malaria – nephrotic syndrome or cerebral were prevented ( epidemiological data ) or cured ( case reports or clinal trial ) by Chloroquine or Hydroxychloroquin . I am not aware of any.

I don’t see where he is “absolutely wrong”. The article makes it abundantly clear that he is stating the usage of the drug is most effective under certain circumstances, and is not for everyone. If your reference is to his comment on using on patient who are being reanimated/resuscitated i.e. being returned to life, the virus has done its job and has “moved on”, as the body is of no use to it any longer.

Given his credentials, I’m guessing he’s in a good position to know what he is talking about.

  76. KA,
I am commenting here first time but have been reading the site for years.
I have two decades of biotech research experience.
I just finished a literature survey about effects of these active pharmaceutical ingredients or APIs (chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, hydroxychloroquine phosphate).
The APIs have been in human application for very long time and their side effect profile might be broad but it is not widespread. The most serious problems arise from eventual eye degenerative effects but those are very-very rare.
These APIs do act on several steps of what you mentioned, starting with receptor binding interference (ACE2 glycosylation changes), viral entry (impairment of endosome formation), then viral DNA offloading (interference with virus-containing endosomes fusing with lysosomes), through viral “work” (impairment of protein synthesis and virion assembly through stopping of Golgi- and endoplasmatic reticular budding and traffic).
The most interesting part of their actions might however be the inhibition of the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase enzyme. This is done through increasing Zn++ concentration in the cytoplasm because all of these APIs are ionophores and bring Zn++ ions into the cytosol through the lipid membrane. High Zn++ “levels” inside the cell block the “xerox machine”of the viral RNA. So indeed these have at least theoretical effects and in vitro proof is abundant.

On the contrary, if one looks at the now not too worthwile treatment compilation from Alipay and Zhezhiang University the use of different antiviral drugs is quite dangerous to the liver. Many patients on anti-retrovirals developed liver problems. I think the Shanghai Protocol is much more adequate but to each his own.

With regards to the origins of the virus someone earlier wrote about haplotypes. There are 58 haplotypes (called as such in peer-reviewed publications) and 5 haplogroups of the virus in two clades (L and S). According to a non peer-reviewed publication at ChinaXiv, 5 haplogroups have only been reported from the US so far. Mainland Chinese enjoyed the society of only 4 haplogroups while the fifth could be found in Taiwan.

  77. What is happening in France just now can be explained in one line:

a government loaded with opportunist and incompetent people.

  78. “Let’s start with Yves Levy, who was the head of INSERM – the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research – from 2014 to 2018, when he was appointed as extraordinary state councilor for the Macron administration. Only 12 people in France have reached this status.

“Levy is married to Agnes Buzy, who until recently was minister of health under Macron. Buzy was essentially presented with an “offer you can’t refuse” by Macron’s party to leave the ministry – in the middle of the coronavirus crisis – and run for Mayor of Paris, where she was mercilessly trounced in the first round on March 16”

Professor Didier Raoult, being honest, genuine and selfless is the antidote to the globalist Emmanuel Macron. When Macron was the Minister of Economy, he destroyed the nuclear energy independence of France when he allowed General Electric to take over Alstom in 2014. Macron’s justification was his neoliberal logic that the state cannot interfere in private enterprise. Now Macron allows the crooked couple of Levy/ Buzyn to deprive the French from getting a cheap and effective medicine that could have spared the French Society thousands of dead people and a lockdown.

Look at the comparatives of French against German deaths from Corona virus as of now:

Macron may be pursuing a policy of herd immunity, but doesn’t have the political luxury of being public about it

Yes, he does. Openly. Several times it was said that it is only necessary to delay the contagion, so as to “level” the curb, to flatten it. So that the hospitals will not be overburdened. He also said that this disease is benign in 85% of the cases. On the contrary, it was never said that the aim would be to control the disease to stop it. For instance two people coming back from Egypt introduced the virus where it was not present before. Nothing was done to contact, isolate and test all the other passengers.

Are these the only cases – the very serious cases – that will be treated with chloroquine under the new directive by [French Health Minister] Veran?”

The damage of the lungs is not caused by Covid -19. As a breathing therapist I have studied this “damage” for 38 years especially at the time of the HIV causes AIDS dogma.
Now we have another dogma: The “Covid-19 epidemic”. There is no spread of this covid-19 virus, its an old virus.

The only epidemic is the “spread” of the tests!

Its actually a good thing to have antibodies against a virus, means you had already an immunity reaction. Obviously all over the world some people have this antibodies.

The virus already mutated….can anyone please make a test for covid -27 and start a new epidemic with the help of Bill Gates. I am sure Bill will soon coming out with a vaccination for covid-19…already he sells test kits.

If you wonder who created this big plot….its the same people who created the almighty god who will punish all nations who do not obey his orders…. like he did it with the Egyptians where he “spread” the ten menaces.
It was a fiction then…now its also fiction but somehow very real.

From an astrological point of view ..we are in the transit of a Pluto-Saturn conjunction which is coming in a cycle of ca. 38 years. 1982 AIDS hysteria, 2020 Covid-19 hysteria.

Not only I am maintaining that the so-called AIDS virus “HIV” has never been scientifically demonstrated to exist, but only is being maintained to exist because of a purported consensus. The Bundesgesundheitsministerin, the Minister for Public Health in Germany, Ulla Schmidt, wrote on 05.01.2004 to the Member of Parliament (Bundestagsabgeordneten) Rudolf Kraus:

“Of course the Human Immunodeficiency Virus is considered – in international scientific consensus – to be scientifically demonstrated to exist.”

The above quote reminds me of how the holocaust has been declared to be a known truth. When all the evidence: scientific, mathmatical, and empirical, scream fraud.

Not 1 scientist has ever isolated and photographed a virus taken from a human, animal, fish, or plant. Ask the pathologists to find, isolate and photograph, the NCOV19 virus from a victim. It should be easy. Right?

Thank you for your informative comments. I was blessed with good health and rarely saw a doctor, which means I am very deficient in medical jargon and practice. Do you mean that these medicines actually are designed to suppress the body’s own immune system to prevent it from “attacking” the pathogens? Seems counterintuitive, as I would assume the medicines should boost the system to destroy the invaders. Or is it the case that the auto-immune system overreacts to the invasion and aggravates the problem? I’m asking here because some other commenters might also benefit from your medical knowledge.

Immunological reaction is a double edged sword . Most of the physiological systems or indicators of status of health are kind of homeostatic . I don’t want my body temperature ,blood pressure or blood sugar to be outside certain low or high value. Our immunological reaction is same and can be underwhelming or overwhelming .

In addition , we have immunity directed against sometimes our own body’s protein – exposure to certain medication. foreign sources ( virus bacteria, fungi ) can cause it because we share similarity with outside proteins of these agents . Sometimes we carry the antibody but without any major effects usually in old age
But we also can develop what we call auto immune disease – certain type of anemia, cirrhosis, arthritis ( like Rheumatoid ), SLE or certain type of encephalopathy .

Here the suppressing the immunity becomes crucial .

    BTW, a good example:
    – In New York, the bureaucracy opted to spend $500 million on illegal aliens instead of on ventilators. Likewise, during the Obama administration, after the 2009 H1N1 epidemic, the Obama administration, despite warnings, never bothered to replenish stockpiles of N95.

    – And Comrade Saggy, who laughably thinks Islam existed before Judaism & Christianity, tries to maintain that a badly managed economy is being bailed out when in fact under Trump the economy was doing extremely well, it was CV-19 which has caused the economy to shutdown, not Trump’s economic policies. BTW, the money for companies are LOANS, not bailouts. Ah!

Trump is a ‘bombing’ piker compared to Obama.

    Wrong again ….https://www.vox.com/world/2018/1/30/16925544/trump-state-union-2018-military-2017

President Donald Trump has proven himself much more willing to stay in costly interventions overseas — and in some cases, to escalate them significantly.

Take America’s counterterrorism campaigns. Trump followed through on his promise to “bomb the shit” out of ISIS, dropping around 9,000 more bombs in 2017 than President Obama did in 2016. He increased America’s support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen while more than doubling troop levels in Somalia.

Trump also didn’t end America’s wars — he extended them. He sent thousands more troops into Afghanistan and Iraq and authorized an indefinite military presence in Syria to keep ISIS down and deter Iran.

And the president put confronting two of America’s biggest potential rivals in the world — China and Russia — at the center of his national security strategy. His administration continues to send more ships and planes into the Pacific region, and he has increased America’s military presence in Eastern Europe. And, of course, don’t forget Trump’s year-long standoff with North Korea.

Trump’s increased use of the military in part led to at least 33 US military deaths in war zones in 2017 — the first time US war zone casualties rose in six years.

The president’s more enhanced use of the military still converted some former Trump skeptics into vocal supporters. “What Trump is doing is empowering the United States to engage when we want and where we want on our own terms,” Rebeccah Heinrichs, a national security expert at the conservative Hudson Institute and previously a member of the “Never Trump” movement, told me.

The idea of using it against COVID-19 is not a wacky idea that come out of the blue. There were actually good reasons to try it.

Judging by the graphs in those papers (I only spent half an hour on it two weeks ago), 1) hydrochloroquine might be a little more effective than chloroquine, 2) chloroquine alone helps but not much, and 3) chloroquine + one or two other antivirals seem to be very effective.

There was not, at the time, reliable experiments available with COVID-19 and (hydroxy)chloroquine-based cocktails. We should have that soon.

    Better for who? Israel?

I really am not that interested. I am not American anyway so it is none of my business. I loved that place and went there many times, but not since 9/11

Countries go up and down. I am really glad I spent the whole of the summer of ’69 in the States. An unforgettable experience – Tenderloin SF, Westwood Village LA, New Orleans, Seattle, Kotzebue, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Galveston, Miami Beach, DC, Manhattan.

I had to research who is Cyrus.

Why does Israel like him so much?

Since Israel is big shot for all things in the world, we should know.

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/who-is-king-cyrus-and-why-is-netanyahu-comparing-him-to-trump/

Here Neth. explains why he is:

As Netanyahu explained in his remarks:

I want to tell you that the Jewish people have a long memory, so we remember the proclamation of the great king, Cyrus the Great, the Persian king 2,500 years ago. He proclaimed that the Jewish exiles in Babylon could come back and rebuild our Temple in Jerusalem. We remember a hundred years ago, Lord Balfour, who issued the Balfour Proclamation that recognized the rights of the Jewish people in our ancestral homeland. We remember 70 years ago, President Harry S. Truman was the first leader to recognize the Jewish state. And we remember how a few weeks ago, President Donald J. Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Mr. President, this will be remembered by our people through the ages.

This guy Cyrus was in the Old Testament. He ruled a large area of West Asia. He supposedly allowed the Jews to return to Israel.

But Jewish tradition has been consistent in treating him as a pagan agent of God’s divine plan for Jews to return to the Land of Israel from their exile in Babylon (modern-day Iraq). Cyrus shows up in Chronicles saying, “The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord their God be with them.”

In Isaiah, God chooses Cyrus “to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor … so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel.”

Here is what historians know about Cyrus.

What is known about Cyrus is as much myth as fact, although scholars agree that during his lifetime (c. 600-530 BCE) he ruled an empire that included the ancient Near East, Southwest and Central Asia, and the Caucasus.

They are trying to discredit Dr. Raoult (calling him ‘Getafix’, etc.). But, I don’t think it is going to work. This is from his Wikipedia Page (in English). Also Tucker Carlson mentioned this last night. In America, they are trying to suppress this because … ‘Orange Man – Bad’ … they don’t care that it will cost lives.

On 19 November 2010, he was awarded the “Grand prix de l’Inserm” for his career.[8] In 2015, Raoult was awarded the “Grand Prix scientifique de la Fondation Louis D.” of the Institut de France. He shared the €450.000 prize money with biologist Chris Bowler from the Institut de Biologie de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris.[9]

In 2014, according to ISI Web of Knowledge, he is the most cited microbiologist in Europe, and the 7th worldwide.[10][11]

In 2020, the website Expertscape ranks him 1st expert in the world for communicable diseases.[12][13] He was “classified among the ten leading French researchers by the journal Nature, for the number of his publications (a credit of more than two thousand) and for his citations number”, in 2008, as reported by a daily economic newspaper covering his work.[14]

According to the Thomson Reuters source “Highly Cited Researchers List”, Raoult is among the most influential researchers in his field and his publications are among the 1% most consulted in academic journals. He is one of the 99 most cited microbiologists in the world and one of the 73 most highly cited French scientists.[15] He is a world reference for Q fever and Whipple’s disease.[16] In April 2017, on Google Scholar citations,[17] he cumulated over 104,000 citations and an h index of 148. He is also on the list of the 400 most cited authors in the biomedical world.[18]

According to the analysis of the publications from 2007 to 2013, by Kathleen Gransalke, for Labtimes (2017/02), Raoult appears at the top of the European classification (including Israel) with 18,128 citations.[19]

He totalizes more than 2,300 indexed publications including 8 in Science, and 3 in Nature, the two most visible scientific journals according to the N&S index of Shanghai’s ranking.[20]

  133. ThomasT says:

France is hiding nothing. The WHO, FDA and US doctors are terrified that a cheap, non FDA approved (billion$) drug cures CV19, and are doing everything possible to try to stop it. Many US hospitals now use it, but only allowed as a Clinical Study.

  134. TT says:

Many quoted Pepe Escobar article as proof by taking out of context.

It clearly said following the “Asia success in vigorous testing to filter out infected one”, so that “treatment with chloroquine in very early stage may serve as preventive measure”.

So chloroquine is not a proven cure as many falsely touted. Its known toxicity side effect is another topic.

That made some sense, which in line with China and Thailand limited small clinical test result. France is said to start 20k clinical trial cases.

Only Thailand is using chloroquine with HIV drugs liberally to treat COVID with unknown side effect. Oz reported one case, where one hospital was urged to trial this by a dying patient’s family and it worked.

“Raoult was part of a clinical trial that in which hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin healed 90% of Covid-19 cases if they were tested very early.

Zhang Nanshan, who says that treatment with chloroquine phospate had a “positive impact,” with patients testing negative after around four days.

The key point has been stressed by Raoult: Use chloroquine in very special circumstances, for people tested very early, when the disease is not advanced yet, and only in these cases. He’s not advocating chloroquine for everyone. It’s exactly what the Chinese did, along with their use of Interferon. “

In general, 85% patients will has mild or no symptoms require no treatment. 12% will be hospitalized & recovered with care, while 3% will be in ICU requiring ventilator/ respirator and EMCO.

So Dr Raoult methodology is to prevent that 15% hospitalization from happening at very begin stage of outbreak through wide spread testing like SK, never as a cure.

Since this 15% is what overwhelmed all hospitals and kill most patients, it makes sense to be a good preventive system.

But huge resources will be required to test very rigorously every asymptotic or mild symptoms suspect case, with 85% mild cases risking toxicity complications unnecessarily, which may cause more harm than COVID did (0.01~3% death rate)?

So we will have to wait until France 20k clinical study completed to see its pros & cos.

But Pharma giants won’t be happy to see such unprofitable chloroquine preventive system. A patented $100 vaccines like Tamiflu with $1k/day HIV drug therapeutic treatment is what they will ram through.

In my country, herbal extract artesunate that has been proven 100% effective and promoted by WHO, is banned by Health Ministry OTC sales in pharmacy. Instead, chloroquine been long proven with only 30% effectiveness and much side effects, continue to be prescribed. Gov even invested over $1B to research for malaria vaccines. Its all about $.

Btw Chloroquine play no role in China success to contain outbreak.

  135. TT says:

If Chloroquine can cure COVID as many touted, even Trumps & Modi did, China would has seen zero or 0.1% death rate since it started trial on B/Feb.

Yet thousands continue to die, including a dozen senior Drs. These Drs would have quickly pop those magical pills themselves if chloroquine work.

China gov has even warned/ prohibited all hospitals from treating COVID with chloroquine after some died of toxicity. Its reported in a China medical article.

In line with WHO, Spore CDC specialist had also openly declared there are no effective proven drugs for COVID. And he advocated its not necessary to duplicate clinical trial on unproven drugs as China already doing extensively, unless patient is dying with no option. This avoid risking patient lifes unnecessarily.

China has done clinica trials on hundreds of selected drugs, including 2 HIV drugs + chloroquine, US Gilead Remdesivir, Favipiravir,..even convalescent plasma, all were touted by various China specialists as effective magical cure.

Yet these influential Drs endorsing openly were mostly exposed as related to Pharma companies selling these drugs, either related to themselves or their family.

Chinese researchers have narrowed down their focus to a few existing drugs, including Chloroquine Phosphate, Favipiravir and Remdesivir, after multiple rounds of screening, said Zhang Xinmin, director of the China National Center for Biotechnology Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology, at a press conference on the new virus.

According to him, the researchers scanned more than 70,000 drugs or compounds through computer simulations and in vitro enzyme activity tests, and selected 5,000 potentially effective drug candidates.

Then they were tested at the cellular level against the common coronavirus infection, and about 100 drugs were chosen for further experiments, which helped to select the final drugs for clinical trials, Zhang said.

A Chinese clinical trial preliminary report circulated in China wechat media shown all have below 85% effective rate, i.e. non effective since 85% patients would have recovered without need of treatment. A separated lollipop given group has also exhibited above 85% rate recovery rate.

Its chief epidemiologist Dr Zhong Nanshan has been promoting his disastrous therapeutic treatment of heavy dosage (antibiotics + steroids) since 2003 SARS and now again, which WHO has warned against. Many died using this therapeutic treatment, including that “whistleblower” Dr Li Wenliang.

Dr Zhong is also most active in advocating chloroquine as effective treatment for patients in early stage. Yet under his leadership of China epidemic control, patients are dying in thousands rapidly.

Seeing exponential increase of infection cases & deaths with no effective Western drugs, China CCP had stepped in to order officially all hospitals adopted TCM treatment. Its official letter was circulated widely in wechat social media but strangely not reported in msm.

4900 TCM physicians were flown into Wuhan alone to takeover all hospitals. Over 90% proven effective rate was immediately achieved, with zero deteriotion, zero death, zero medical staff infected under TCM.

Hubei (esp Wuhan) has the highest death rate 4% partly due to their hospital Drs resisting CPC order to adopt TCM. Only less than 30% was treated with TCM, while outside Hubei up to 90% were treated with TCM achieving below 0.3% death rate.

Once CCP cracked down hard with some leadership changed, immediately the patients discharge rate shoot up to the sky and outbreak swiftly controlled. All patients died have either opted to be treated by Western drugs or in clinical trial(~8.5%).

Within less than 2mths, many hospitals under TCM treatments are emptied of COVID patients and shut down. The oldest discharged patients are over 100yo. Even Wuhan is open up now, with China reporting zero new case for consecutive days.

State media this month have run photos of Chen, in fatigues and a surgical mask, standing in front of a Communist Party flag and receiving an injection in her left arm. The substance was, according to the reports, one that China hopes will become the first vaccine against the coronavirus. Seven other military officers reportedly received the jab.

Agreed, I am quickly losing respect for Pepe, as well as a few others that I had previously respected. It almost seems that there is an attempt to gain followers/readers by writing nonsense that appeals to people’s angst right now.

The timeline proving the French are in cahoots with pharma starts with 6 data points related to france, then 2 american data points, then a single data point from each of the following morocco, pakistan, switzerland and italy. The first 3 data points have dates, the remaining 9 points have no date.

What does he think this proves? How do these 6 countries link together to prove that france is in cahoots with pharma? Pepe is obviously a smart guy, too smart to believe this proves anything. He is pandering to fearful idiots by telling them something that confirms their suspicions about ‘gubermint’, or the 1%, or whatever.

In the long run not too smart on Pepe’s part, short term gain now in the form of more readers, long term loss in respect to credibility.

Like I said above, he is not the only person who has lost me as a long time reader of his opinions and/or analysis.
