This is the tale of an Ancient Greek tragedy reenacted in AngloAmerica.

Amid thundering silence and nearly universal indifference, chained, immobile, invisible, a squalid Prometheus was transferred from the gallows for a show trial in a faux Gothic court built on the site of a medieval prison.

Kratos, impersonating Strength, and Bia, impersonating Violence, had duly chained Prometheus, not to a mountain in the Caucasus, but to solitary confinement in a high-security prison, subject to relentless psychological torture. All along the Western watchtowers, no Hephaestus volunteered to forge in his smithy a degree of reluctance or even a sliver of pity.

Prometheus is being punished not for stealing fire – but for exposing power under the light of truth, thus provoking the unbounded ire of Zeus The Exceptionalist, who’s only able to stage his crimes under multiple veils of secrecy.

Prometheus pierced the myth of secrecy – which envelops Zeus’s ability to control the human spectrum. And that is anathema.

For years, debased, hack stenographers worked relentlessly to depict Prometheus as a lowly trickster and inconsequential forger.

Abandoned, smeared, demonized, Prometheus was comforted by only a small chorus of Oceanids – Craig Murray, John Pilger, Daniel Ellsberg, Wiki warriors, Consortium writers. Prometheus was denied even the basic tools to organize a defense that might at least rattle Zeus’s cognitive dissonant narrative.

Oceanus, the Titan father of the Oceanids, could not possibly urge Prometheus to appease Zeus.

Fleetingly, Prometheus might have revealed to the chorus that exposing secrecy was not what best suited his heart’s content. His plight might also, in the long run, revive popular attachment to the civilizing arts.

One day, Prometheus was visited by Io, a human maiden. He may have forecasted she would engage in no future travels, and she would bear him two offspring. And he may have foreseen that one of their descendants – an unnamed epigone of Heracles – many generations hence, would release him, figuratively, from his torment.

Zeus and his prosecutorial minions don’t have much of a case against Prometheus, apart from possession and dissemination of classified Exceptional information.

Still it was eventually up to Hermes — the messenger of the Gods, and significantly, the conduit of News — to be sent down by Zeus in uncontrollable anger to demand that Prometheus admits he was guilty of trying to overthrow the rules-based order established by the Supreme Exceptional.

This is what’s being ritualized at the current show trial, which was never about Justice.

Prometheus won’t be tamed. In his mind, he will be relieving Tennyson’s Ulysses: “to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

So Zeus may finally strike him with the thunderbolt of Exceptionalism, and Prometheus will be hurled into the abyss.

Prometheus’s theft of the secrecy of power, though, is irreversible. His fate will certainly prompt the late entrance of Pandora and her jar of evils – complete with unforeseen consequences.

Whatever the verdict reached in that 17th century court, it’s far from certain that Prometheus will enter History just as a mere object of blame for human folly.

Because now the heart of the matter is that the mask of Zeus has fallen.

  1. That Vulcan looks like a movie star. I read that he was reputed to be hideously ugly and I have seen pictures of him deformed with a leg stump.

  3. If only Americans knew … (sigh)

We could go through this country by country – but frankly, who has the time?

Looking at just one US ally will suffice … the absolute monarchy of the headchoppers the Anglo-zionist project of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Since June 2015 Wikileaks has been releasing details of leaked cables and other documents from within the Saudi Foreign Office.

They provide an insight into the internal workings of the secretive absolute monarchy, its fears, and its strategies for spreading its Wahhabi terrorism abroad.

    WikiLeaks have published:

    – 230,000+ leaked documents ;
    – a batch of 60,000 more cables and
    – 50,000 pager messages were released in November 2014.

    I don’t ‘get’ this article …. but …
#1 – equating the murderous Zio/US monster with Zeus doesn’t seem right at all. Satan seems like a closer match, thinking about the Apache helicopter vids.

#2 – the mask fell off the monster for a moment, but no one paid it any mind, and now the monster is killing Mercury or whomever the messenger god is, and rubbing our noses in it. This constant torture of Assange and final killing of Assange is a ritual humiliation for the future victims of Satan, and we watch doing nothing.

Is there one g**d*** person in the US government calling for Assange’s release?

  5. The Neocons are text book psychopaths that will never relax their persecution of Assange without real force from the non-neocons. And we all know that the Neocons are both Liberal/Democratic and Conservative/Republican via the Finance Capitalist corporate sector which is likened to the revolving door of power.

Peons like Assange are, and were, useful idiots that are constantly in play via Intel. When Assange failed to play a useful idiot and went rouge with explosive information it was then obvious to the Neocons that Assange mistakenly thought he was a rainmaker/kingmaker and power broker.

Assange is the embodiment of the message that the MIC wants to send to journalists worldwide. Moreover, if Assange was in Mexico he would have been assassinated by now as Mexico has a couple of journalists assassinated each day of the week now.

Assange is just a message to the world’s rouge journalists that think they are intelligent enough to play with power and the brokers of it.

The USA and NATO are bankrupt and Assange is merely a sign of that bankruptcy that Americans don’t want to admit to themselves or others. In this respect, Assange is a victim of American ignorance of their own psychopathology run amok. The UK is mere lackey to U.S. power.

Assange is a victimized court jester that failed to make the crown laugh at his antics.

Us armchair theorists should really start fighting for his release from prison.

  6. @Morton's toes

I read that [Vulcan] was reputed to be hideously ugly and I have seen pictures of him deformed with a leg stump.

This is caused by conflations of Vulcan and Hephaestus – the character from Greek mythology that formed the basis of the Romans’ Vulcan.

Hephaestus was lame/halt and had a shrivelled foot from birth – his deformity was the reason he got thrown out of ‘the heavens’ by Hera (mother of Vulcan, wife of Zeus) and he landed in the ocean. Alternatively he was thrown out by Zeus, who may not have been his father, and his lameness happened when he hit the ground – after falling for an entire day.

The Roman version says Vulcan was thrown off the top of Mount Olympus by Juno [Hera] – simply because he was an ugly baby. He broke his leg when he landed in the ocean. Vulcan is often depicted with one foot at a slightly-odd angle.

The guy in the painting is unattractive-enough to get the point across (and note how his right lower leg has a weird shape, and his right foot is out of proportion).

And of course Prometheus – a Greek god – would not be chained by Vulcan (a Roman god). HE would be chained by Hephaestus. (Prometheus stole fire from Hephaestus’ forge and gave it to humans: gods don’t like humans getting their hands on technology – never have… the whole “Do not eat form the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil” is all about retaining monopoly)

Has anyone else noticed how little attention Mr. Assange and his treatment by Washington and London receive on this website, which strives to publish “Interesting, Important, and Controversial Perspectives Largely Excluded from the American Mainstream Media”? Typing his name, filtered by Author, into the search tool reveals much about the compliance/dissidence of the columnist roster when it comes to Uncle Sam. (The search will encompass the author’s archived work first published elsewhere, too.) Pretty shameful in several cases.

Thanks to Mr. Escobar, Jonathan Cook (current piece on Assange), and Mr. Unz for reminding us about the vulnerability of truth and free speech here in Exceptionalia and the cowardice of most “journalism.”

  8. Assange screwed the pooch by picking the wrong country and wrong location for asylum. There are lot of pretty women in Moscow.

  9. If Assange is genuinely a real ‘dissident’ – and not an intel agency psy-op and hoax, who diplomats quietly say was never really ‘living’ at the London Ecuador embassy, and probably is not ‘in Belmarsh prison’ right now –

Then why did Israel Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu boast to Israeli media right from the start, that Assange was an Israeli-Mossad asset shielding Israel in his ‘leaks’?

Why did Zbig Brzezinski say on USA national television, the NPR News Hour, in 2010, that Assange was publishing ‘Wikileaks’ seeded from the intelligence agencies themselves?

Why did Assange help the Rothschilds to destroy rival bankers Julius Baer with his ‘leaks’? Why does Assange get his bail posted by Rothschild relatives? Why does Assange openly talk of being pro-Israel, and anti-9-11-truth?

Why is Assange quiet about his lawyer who was thrown under a moving train, apparently when learning Assange was never ‘living’ at the London Ecuador Embassy and only there for photos & meetings, the lawyer apparently about to expose the hoax against his law partners serving MI5 & MI6?

Why have victims trusting Assange turning up dead, such as Peter W Smith, Assange even claiming he ‘never got’ the poor dead guy’s files?

Why is Assange so loyal to the CIA, he won’t use the USA Virginia federal judge bribery files that have helped stop other extraditions, and which would make his own extradition from Britain impossible, files successfully used previously to stop the extradition of hacker Mr Lauri Love?

  10. A few remarks:

1- The hostility of judge Baraitser against A. seems quite obvious. I think that she hates him. It seems to be a personal thing. Normally this shouldn’t happen in a judgement and a judge shouldn’t display their hostility, they should appear to be perfectly neutral in relation to the accusation and the defense. Given that, a negative result for A. seems to be already inevitable. The judgement as a whole is quite sinister because of the judge and the conditions that she imposes on A. and on the judgment.

2- On the other hand A’s defense has made quite strong points and is decided to make their case. On the one side there are the most competent lawyers, but A’s side has many witnesses and support from many people. I think that prof. Mark Feldstein, called by the defense, made some very interesting remarks in his defense. The defense is ready to fight.

3- It seems that one of the most serious points of the accusation is that A. made public the names of people who colaborated with the army and endangered their lives. This seems to me very hypocritical. I think that I remember one reportage years ago saying that after they stopped working for the army (as translators for instance) they feared for their lives but that the US didn’t care offering them some protection and in one or some cases Germany accepted to take them. If the US cared about those people, they would have protected their names much better. Besides that, all those wars were fought without much care for civilians. The video (collateral murder) shows that. How many civilians were killed by drones, how many weddings were attacked killing dozens of people? A. can make the case that exposing documents about the war could have been a way to avoid more victims in general making pressure to end the war or pressure for the adoption of more careful rules of engagement in order to protect civilians. If A. has to be judged, then all generals and politicians who made the war possible would have to be judged by an international tribunal for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

4- In spite of that, the accusation insists in this point: “James Lewis QC for the prosecution argued that informant names are national defense information and thus protected by the Espionage Act.” This doesn’t make sense. A. isn’t American and he wasn’t in the US. So, if the Americans listen to Merkel’s telephon secretely without anybody knowing this, wouldn’t the Germans have the right to make this fact public if they discover that this happened, because it would reveal a secret protected by the Espionage Act? To talk about a Espionage Act in such a case is absurd as A. didn’t work for anyone, didn’t sell information for anyone. He published it just like other newspapers in the world did.

5- In such moments we see who are courageous people who deserve to be admired. One name that could be added is Roger Waters. C. Murray has done a great work. But what surprises me is that there aren’t more people saying anything, protesting. Shouldn’t there be one big day of protest instead of many small protests?

6- In a judgement about what could be a political case questions of the material validity of the arguments of the accusation should be considered.

7- A daily report about the process:

I have wondered about Assange for some time – never any leaks about Israel. That said, the film about the war crimes in Iraq is IMO a diversion. The DNC leaks is the real issue. It would not surprise me in the least, if there were information that would tie the DNC to the Rothschilds.

You can follow events at the blog of former British ambassador Mr Craig Murray, who is himself the subject of legal action (which could result in two years’ imprisonment) for reporting truthfully on the framing of former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond.

  16. Donald Trump is the largest enemy to journalists and the 1st amendment that the world has ever known, with Trump’s war on Truth and dedication to prosecute “leakers” and individuals that publish, or discuss “classified” information which is actually government corruption which has no business of being classified at all and the corrupt psychopaths that are guilty are the ones that ought to be receiving the sentences and charges that Assange is receiving in addition to numerous other charges which they are guilty of! Even Obama and Eric Holder both concluded that they would not seek to prosecute Assange and used The Pentagon Papers leaked by the New York Times as a reason for not doing so. The nut jobs in the alt right media all pretend to support Assange, but the nut jobs also all support Trump and falsely proclaim the MSM ignores Assange, which is a lie, because The Washington Post, New York Times, ABC, NBC, and many others have all pointed out that Assange is being prosecuted over the same charges that The New York Times published The Pentagon Papers over, in addition to scores of other leaks that have been published by both journalists and former government employee whistle blowers.

How ironic is it that these nut jobs include both journalists and former government employee whistle-blowers that are demanding that everyone vote for Donald Trump? Definitely  paid propagandists, lunatics, or mentlly incompetent half-wits.

Try the White House comment line, ask the president to pardon Assange. Then there is no reason to extradite him to the US.
