With the revelation by an intel community “whistleblower” that President Donald Trump, in a congratulatory call to the new president of Ukraine, pushed him repeatedly to investigate the Joe Biden family connection to Ukrainian corruption, the cry “Impeach!” is being heard anew in the land.

But revisiting how this latest scandal came about, and how it has begun to unfold, it is a good bet that the principal casualty could be the former vice president. Consider:

In May 2016, Joe Biden, as Barack Obama’s designated point man on Ukraine, flew to Kiev to inform President Petro Poroshenko that a billion-dollar U.S. loan guarantee had been approved to enable Kiev to continue to service its mammoth debt.

But, said Biden, the aid was conditional. There was a quid pro quo.

If Poroshenko’s regime did not fire its chief prosecutor in six hours, Biden would fly home and Ukraine would get no loan guarantee. Ukraine capitulated instantly, said Joe, reveling in his pro-consul role.

Yet, left out of Biden’s drama about how he dropped the hammer on a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor was this detail.

The prosecutor had been investigating Burisma Holdings, the biggest gas company in Ukraine. And right after the U.S.-backed coup that ousted the pro-Russian government in Kiev, and after Joe Biden had been given the lead on foreign aid for Ukraine, Burisma had installed on its board, at $50,000 a month, Hunter Biden, the son of the vice president.

Joe Biden claims that, though he was point man in the battle on corruption in Ukraine, he was unaware his son was raking in hundreds of thousands from one of the companies being investigated.

Said Joe on Saturday, “I have never spoken to my son about his various business dealings.”
Is this credible?

Trump and Rudy Giuliani suspect not, and in that July 25 phone call, Trump urged President Volodymyr Zelensky to reopen the investigation of Hunter Biden and Burisma.

The media insist there is no story here and the real scandal is that Trump pressed Zelensky to reopen the investigation to target his strongest 2020 rival. Worse, say Trump’s accusers, would be if the president conditioned the transfer of $250 million in approved military aid to Kiev on the new regime’s acceding to his demands.

The questions raised are several:

Is it wrong to make military aid to a friendly nation conditional on that nation’s compliance with legitimate requests or demands of the United States? Is it illegitimate to ask a friendly government to look into what may be corrupt conduct by the son of a U.S. vice president?

Joe Biden has an even bigger problem: This issue has begun to dominate the news at an especially vulnerable moment for his campaign.

Biden’s stumbles and gaffes have already raised alarms among his followers and been seized upon by rivals such as Cory Booker, who has publicly suggested that the 76-year-old former vice president is losing it.

Biden’s lead in the polls also appears shakier with each month. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has just taken a narrow lead in a Des Moines Register poll and crusading against Beltway corruption is central to her campaign.

“Too many politicians in both parties have convinced themselves that playing the money-for-influence game is the only way to get things done,” Warren told her massive rally in New York City: “No more business as usual. Let’s attack the corruption head on.”

Soon, it will not only be Trump and Giuliani asking Biden questions abut Ukraine, Burisma and Hunter, but Democrats, too. Calls are rising for Biden’s son to be called to testify before congressional committees.

With Trump airing new charges daily, Biden will be asked to respond by his traveling press. The charges and the countercharges will become what the presidential campaign is all about. Bad news for Joe Biden.

Can he afford to spend weeks, perhaps months, answering for his son’s past schemes to enrich himself through connections to foreign regimes that seem less related to Hunter’s talents than his being the son of a former vice president and possible future president?

“Ukraine-gate” is the latest battle in the death struggle between the “deep state” and a president empowered by Middle America to go to Washington and break that deep state’s grip on the national destiny.

Another issue is raised here — the matter of whistleblowers listening in to or receiving readouts of presidential conversations with foreign leaders and having the power to decide for themselves whether the president is violating his oath and needs to be reported to Congress.

ORDER IT NOW

Eisenhower discussed coups in Iran and Guatemala and the use of nuclear weapons in Korea and the Taiwan Strait. JFK, through brother Bobby, cut a secret deal with Khrushchev to move U.S. missiles out of Turkey six months after the Soviets removed their missiles from Cuba.

Who deputized bureaucratic whistleblowers to pass judgment on such conversations and tattle to Congress if they were offended?

It could 86 Biden, if the other candidates gang up on him.

But I expect the left/media will drop it since it opens up too many difficult questions.

“As of September 2019, no evidence has surfaced that Biden acted to protect his son’s involvement with Burisma, although speculation has persisted.[13][14] Shokin was ousted within the month. His successor Yuriy Lutsenko, initially took a hard line against Burisma, but within a year he announced that he all legal proceedings and pending criminal allegations against Zlochevsky had been “fully closed”.[11] He stated in May 2019 that there was no evidence of wrongdoing by the Bidens, but he was planning to provide information to attorney general Bill Barr about Burisma board payments so American authorities could verify whether Hunter Biden had paid US taxes.[15]”

Wikipedia facts. But Hunter Biden dealings are inherently troubling. Today, there were Fox News allegations that Hunter cashed in on his father’s China negotiations. And Joe has claimed that he never discussed any of this with Hunter.

    Then there is this:

“But there is a missing part of the story that the American public needs in order to assess what really happened: Giuliani’s contact with Zelensky adviser and attorney Andrei Yermak this summer was encouraged and facilitated by the U.S. State Department.

Giuliani didn’t initiate it. A senior U.S. diplomat contacted him in July and asked for permission to connect Yermak with him.

Then, Giuliani met in early August with Yermak on neutral ground — in Spain — before reporting back to State everything that occurred at the meeting.”

The point being, this goes on and on and on. In the never ending game of gotcha, this one is loaded with blowback. They came after Trump with their best shot on this.

  5. SafeNow says:

President Trump’s requested investigation is justifiable, as there might be past misdeeds that have current, still-pending influences upon U.S. – Ukraine relations. As president, Mr. Trump is responsible for understanding any such still-relevant-to-policy misdeeds. Thus, the inquiry, so framed, is quite proper. But the counter argument is that the misdeeds in question involve a Trump political opponent; and this factor mandates backing-off what would otherwise be quite proper. Stated quantitatively, the enhanced foreign-policy understanding would likely be small, but the political miasma would be large; and so, don’t request the investigation.

The rule of opposites says everything is the exact opposite of what is presented in the Mockingbird media.

In this case it suggests that Biden is irrelevant (will drop out or not make it to the finish line).

Elizabeth Warren’s claims that she is fighting corruption means that she is trying to cut deals with the elites as we speak.

The media attacks on Trump (of every imaginable kind) are more theater with layers of distraction.

I gritted my teeth last night and watched “The Circus”, Showtime’s ongoing “documentary” on the presidential campaign. They spent half the show on the three Republican primary challengers to Trump!

These three guys (betcha can’t name all three 😉 ) will be lucky to get enough delegates to fit into a phone booth–if you can find one these days. Distraction is the media game-while you look over _here_ the action is going on over _there_.

  9. I love him, but Pat must live in an alternate universe. Not only is the media ignoring the underlying corruption allegation; they’re dismissing the accusations as meritless. This should be pretty much a non-story. As Caitlin Johnston, Michael Tracey, and other real journalists have pointed out, Old Joe has lost it (his brain, that is). Joe’s latest brain fart, before some type of LGBTQ shitshow, that male prisoners should be allowed to go to women’s prisons, if they identify as women, shows how dangerously unhinged he has become. Did he ask any of the women prisoners, I wonder? That comment alone should be the end of him. But in a fast-sinking degenerate country strung together by lie after lie, it probably won’t be.

Surprisingly, a rather extensive semi confession by Hunter appeared in the New Yorker on June 1 to attempt to immunize Joe from the facts.

In 2012, Archer and Hunter talked to Jonathan Li, who ran a Chinese private-equity fund, Bohai Capital, about becoming partners in a new company that would invest Chinese capital—and, potentially, capital from other countries—in companies outside China. In June, 2013, Li, Archer, and other business partners signed a memorandum of understanding to create the fund, which they named BHR Partners, and, in November, they signed contracts related to the deal. Hunter became an unpaid member of BHR’s board but did not take an equity stake in BHR Partners until after his father left the White House.

In December, 2013, Vice-President Biden flew to Beijing to meet with President Xi Jinping. Biden often asked one of his grandchildren to accompany him on his international trips, and he invited Finnegan to come on this one. Hunter told his father that he wanted to join them. According to a Beijing-based BHR representative, Hunter, shortly after arriving in Beijing, on December 4th, helped arrange for Li to shake hands with his father in the lobby of the American delegation’s hotel. Afterward, Hunter and Li had what both parties described as a social meeting. Hunter told me that he didn’t understand why anyone would have been concerned about this. “How do I go to Beijing, halfway around the world, and not see them for a cup of coffee?” he said.

Hunter’s meeting with Li and his relationship with BHR attracted little attention at the time, but some of Biden’s advisers were worried that Hunter, by meeting with a business associate during his father’s visit, would expose the Vice-President to criticism. The former senior White House aide told me that Hunter’s behavior invited questions about whether he “was leveraging access for his benefit, which just wasn’t done in that White House. Optics really mattered, and that seemed to be cutting it pretty close, even if nothing nefarious was going on.” When I asked members of Biden’s staff whether they discussed their concerns with the Vice-President, several of them said that they had been too intimidated to do so. “Everyone who works for him has been screamed at,” a former adviser told me. Others said that they were wary of hurting his feelings. One business associate told me that Biden, during difficult conversations about his family, “got deeply melancholy, which, to me, is more painful than if someone yelled and screamed at me. It’s like you’ve hurt him terribly. That was always my fear, that I would be really touching a very fragile part of him.”

In other words, terrible optics, but nothing happened here.

The facts in this controversy are in surprisingly little dispute. Hunter admits to his drug use and business failings. Admits to bad optics. Etc.

Trump is taking the same approach.

Hunter Biden more or less admits everything. But Joe either showed bad judgment, or was corrupt.

Trump almost always shows bad judgment.

Trump at least had a reason to address corruption in Ukraine. Guilani supposedly was asked or invited by the state department to do something. He strikes me as incompetent in his role as a lawyer.

Meanwhile, I fail to see exactly what rule or law Trump is supposed to have breeched.

  27. @Escher

How on earth does Hunter Biden merit receiving $50k per month for doing nothing of value

Depends how you define “value”. Employing someone 0 degrees of Kevin Bacon from the very lowest rung of the US political class is likely to be immensely value-generating.

Hunter mentions a problem getting advantageous swap rates for his employers’ debt; Daddy mentions it to someone well-positioned in a major bank; the bank shaves a few basis points off their swap spread.

Multiply a few bps by a couple of billion dollars, and junior has paid his way.

Put simply: employing someone close to the vermin of the political class, helps grow your share of distribution of the vast amount of grift and graft generated by the political class and its major constituencies (banks, media, Pharma, Tödeskrameren, etc).

This should not be a revelation to any dispassionate observer.

  30. GOY BIDEN receives a MOMENTO from the JEW LOBBY

Old Joe’s most humiliating (& revealing) experience
was immediately consigned to the Memory Hole:
    ——————————————————————————-

“I HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER YOU BUT BROKEN GLASS,” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed US Vice President Biden during an after-dinner ceremony in Jerusalem on March 9, 2010.

Netanyahu had prepared a symbolic gift for visiting Vice President Joe Biden: a framed document announcing that several trees were planted in Jerusalem in memory of Biden’s mother, a loyal supporter of Israel.

But with Biden’s mission to persuade the Israeli government to begin shrinking Greater Israel back to its pre-1967 borders, Netanyahu leaned on the present (NOT “accidentally” as reported by the Jew-owned press) and shattered the glass frame.

Then came Netanyahu’s cyptic warning and by way of indirection, a threat to Obama: “I have one thing to offer you right now, and it’s broken glass.” View Full Photo Here.

It got worse. At a later tour of Israel’s Holocaust memorial museum, Yad Vashem, the lights in the Hall of Remembrance “unexpectedly” went out as a prayer for the dead was chanted.

Catching Biden’s security detail by surprise as they anxiously stood for over 60 seconds in utter darkness, only the “eternal fire” that honored the Jewish dead spread its ominous light upon the Biden contingent.

By the time the lights flickered back on, Biden’s Middle East fortunes were sealed with an Israeli announcement that it would build 1,600 new homes for Jewish settlers, ignoring US and Palestinian objections. On Biden’s departure for Jordan, Ha’aretz reported that Israel plans to build 50,000 new homes in East Jerusalem over the next three years.

The “broken glass” and the “moments of darkness” that Biden experienced were not chance events. Nothing happens at official Israeli gatherings that is not carefully planned and orchestrated in advance. And in spite of Biden’s groveling before Netanyahu and Peres, with vows of Israel being the “centerpiece of US policy,” the Vice President’s cowering was met with glassy eyes by the leaders of the “master race.”

Symbolic acts, such as the breaking of a glass by a Jewish groom before making vows of faithfulness to his bride at every Jewish wedding, are part of Jewish tradition. When the Jewish groom crushes the glass beneath his right foot, he silently pledges to avenge the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and wage war on all those who would perpetuate that destruction….

I was disappointed to see Andrew Yang come out for impeachment. He sometimes seems like a relatively levelheaded, and relatively non-race-obsessed guy for that party. But he did choose to run in an increasingly extreme, white-hating, globalist party, and his proposals are more extreme than his amiable personality and occasional interesting ideas would suggest.

The author asks: “Is it wrong to make military aid to a friendly nation conditional on that nation’s compliance with legitimate requests or demands of the United States? Is it illegitimate to ask a friendly government to look into what may be corrupt conduct by the son of a U.S. vice president?”

LOL. The author is talking as if Trump withholds the aid because of any LEGITIMATE and REAL US interests. You can bet if Biden did not run for Democrat primary, or even if his poll number is lower, Trump’s Ukraine phone call and this so-called “conditional” withholding of aid will NOT occur.

The “broken glass” and the “moments of darkness” that Biden experienced were not chance events. Nothing happens at official Israeli gatherings that is not carefully planned and orchestrated in advance. . . . the Vice President’s cowering was met with glassy eyes by the leaders of the “master race.”

Neatly explains Kristallnacht, incited by zionists and facilitated by Mossad el-Aliyeh bet, a zionist group organized by Irgun to assist (read, motivate) German Jews and other upper-class European Jews to leave Europe and illegally cross the blockade the British had imposed on Jewish migration into Palestine.

Kristallnacht is called “the beginning of the holocaust,” and based on Bro. Nathanael’s explanation, it was indeed: it was the last major effort to scare remaining Jews into complying with Louis Brandeis’s directive that “all German Jews leave Germany,” and the signal — perhaps not apprehended — to Germans that their destruction was about to commence.

Are you suggesting that it should be of no concern to American taxpayers or to their president who promised to “drain the swamp,” that the relative of a then-vice president received large cash payments from a foreign government?

That such an event involving Joe Biden became relevant only because he is a candidate for the presidency?

William Alton Carter . . . was . . . the younger brother of U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

In late 1978 and early 1979, Billy Carter visited Libya three times with a contingent from Georgia. He eventually registered as a foreign agent of the Libyan government and received a $220,000 loan. (Edwin P. Wilson claimed he had seen a telegram showing that Libya paid Billy Carter $2 million.) This led to a Senate hearing on alleged influence peddling which the press named Billygate. A Senate sub-committee was called To Investigate Activities of Individuals Representing Interests of Foreign Governments (Billy Carter—Libya Investigation). On August 4, 1980, President Jimmy Carter wrote: “I am deeply concerned that Billy has received funds from Libya and that he may be under obligation to Libya. These facts will govern my relationship with Billy as long as I am president. Billy has had no influence on U.S. policy or actions concerning Libya in the past, and he will have no influence in the future.”

Get on the ball Trump, remember the Seven. Get Iran, the last one. It is like hypnotism.

This involvement with ZUS controlled Ukraine in all this is ironic to me. I woke up with this ZUS coup in Ukraine in 2014. Before that I did not get into all this stuff about how bad our government acts around the world. Ukraine was far from the Middle East. Why was the US in Ukraine causing trouble? The head of the coup was a Jewish woman, Nuland, who said F–k the EU to bless her Neo-nazi thugs who did the coup.

After this coup, I questioned everything our government does overseas. The big H must have not been that big after all if Nuland, a Jewish woman, was not afraid of unleashing a type of Neo-Nazism fetishism on the people of Ukraine.

Soon, I looked into nine eleven. I found out that it was an Israel and Israel firsters game. We are ruled by people at the Top who are very sick and have no empathy for humanity.

Another thing odd to me about this Ukraine thing, before this coup, anyone who said they were Ukrainian descent was often smeared as Anti-Semitic by Jews. I remember as kid, if anyone said they were Ukrainian, most Jews did not like it. Suddenly, with Zionist Jews controlling Ukraine after the Nuland coup, Ukraine is best friend of Jews.
