When U.S. cities erupted after the death of George Floyd, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was in the vanguard of the protests, renaming a section of downtown Black Lives Matter Plaza, and painting the name in letters on the street so huge they could be seen from space.

Thursday, however, Bowser awoke to those same BLM protesters yelling outside her home, denouncing a “D.C. police murder of a Black Man,” and demanding the mayor fire Police Chief Peter Newsham.

18-year-old Deon Kay had been shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in an encounter with cops. While this was the fifth shooting by D.C. cops this year, it was the first fatality.

There have been 130 other homicides in D.C. in 2020, mostly of Black folks that involved other Black folks, and not the cops.

“We believe the suspect had a gun at the time,” Newsham told reporters. Witnesses challenged the chief’s claim.

But this is only the latest problem bedeviling Bowser.

While she has been blaming “outside agitators” for the mayhem in the city, the Washington Times reports that 82% of the 541 people arrested for riot-related crimes were residents of D.C., Maryland or Virginia.

On Tuesday, the mayor’s office made national news by releasing a list of monuments and memorials in Washington that should be “removed, replaced or contextualized.” Among them are the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial and Columbus’ statue at Union Station.

The name of Alexander Graham Bell should be erased from Bell Multicultural High School, Bowser’s working group said. Like Winston Churchill and Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, the inventor of the telephone believed in eugenics.

Presidents James Madison, author of the Constitution, John Tyler, who annexed Texas, and Zachary Taylor, who led the U.S. army to victory in the Mexican-American War, are also candidates for having their memorials and monuments “replaced, removed or contextualized.”

Woodrow Wilson’s name should be removed from Wilson high, and the names of Founding Father Ben Franklin and author of the national anthem Francis Scott Key should be erased from buildings named in their honor.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the D.C. nonvoting representative in Congress, explained that the working group formed by Bowers to look into monuments and memorials did not mean the statues were to be pulled down but that plaques should be added informing visitors that these sites are dedicated to men who had a perverted view of human rights.

Norton wants the Emancipation Proclamation statue featuring Abe Lincoln and an unshackled slave, unveiled at an 1876 ceremony attended by President Grant, at which Frederick Douglass spoke, removed. She also wants the statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square removed.

Yet, it was General Jackson who saved the Union from being torn apart at the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, while the defenders of Washington and the White House fled from the attacking British, letting the nation’s capital be burned in August of 1814.

ORDER IT NOW

D.C. officials are today running away from the plans of the mayor’s working group, but those plans testify powerfully to what an act of folly and a capitulation to political correctness it would be for the Congress to vote statehood for D.C., as Nancy Pelosi’s House did this year.

D.C. is unrepresentative of America and undeserving in any way to be raised to statehood. Since given the franchise 60 years ago, it has never voted Republican for president. Its three electoral votes have gone to the Democrats in every election since LBJ in ’64. Republican nominee Donald Trump got 4% of the D.C. vote. Hillary Clinton got 90%, a margin of 22-1.

Moreover, D.C. has a smaller population than 19 other American cities and is smaller in geographic size than 150 other U.S. cities. Rhode Island, our smallest state, is geographically 20 times the size of D.C.

The D.C. government has been in the headlines countless times for personal scandals and financial crises. One four-term mayor, Marion Barry, was sent to prison and returned to be reelected to office.

As for D.C. public schools, the problem is not that they are named for presidents but that they produce some of the lowest test scores in the nation.

More significant, as the protests, attended by riots since May, have shown, the D.C. government, a hostile province when a Republican is in the White House, is the domicile of a permanent regime of leftist and radical media, tens of thousands of federal and city bureaucrats, lawyers and lobbyists, all yoked to big government.

As the “peaceful protests” of June and July showed, with Georgetown sacked and statues demolished, D.C.’s government is an incompetent custodian of the nation’s historic monuments and memorials, and incapable of protecting the White House.

What does Joe Biden, who approved of the removal of statues of Confederate soldiers, generals and statesmen, think of D.C.’s scheme to “remove, replace or contextualize” the statues of so many men who held the office he now seeks?

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of “Nixon’s White House Wars: The Battles That Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever.”

    1. Why is a 60-year history of overwhelming support for Democratic candidates for President Mr. Buchanan’s first argument for the proposition that “D.C. is unrepresentative of America and undeserving in any way to be raised to statehood”? Would he argue that an existing state with such a strong loyalty to either entrenched party had become “undeserving”?

At this point in his life, Mr. Buchanan seems not to think hard about what he writes cheerleading for the GOP in the next Most Important Election Ever. The deeper implication, though, is that his Beltway world should remain undefiled by any more of the direct, grubby politics used to keep people in line nationwide. Both he and that “permanent regime of leftist and radical media, tens of thousands of federal and city bureaucrats, lawyers and lobbyists, all yoked to big government” that he shadow boxes know that the statehood issue — like transgender statues and Confederate bathrooms — can be trotted out every so often to distract attention from the fact that it’s all just a puppet show.

    2. Back in June, Mr. Buchanan wrote that “the killing of George Floyd was an atrocity that cries out for justice” (June 2), a “sadistic public execution” (June 9). More recently, he eased off with the ambiguously passive “death under the knee of” Mr. Chauvin. Now, in his last two columns, Mr. Floyd’s was a simple “death,” and he’ll soon be the unknown soldier of the capitalized “Black.”

Mr. Buchanan couldn’t care less about the official autopsy or the video footage suppressed by DA Keith Ellison because he, too, serves an Establishment that uses Red v Blue politics and media-curated atrocities to keep the sheep fighting among themselves.

The pale faces came, bringing African slaves to work the land stolen from the indigenous tribes, in what was their own apocalypse. Now the descendants of those slaves, supported my so many pale faces, are revolting and demanding that whitey be dethroned.

But to what end? So that “African America” might take the reign? Goodness knows how that might turn out. Particularly if African America continues to take Sorros $$$ and progressive white support!

If I were native/indigenous I’d be preparing to fill the inevitable power-vacuum that will be left when all the monuments have been tumbled and the blood has stopped flowing.

Because the old American empire tended to bring technology and education to wherever it went. That’s the thing I point out about the genocide of the injuns. Ain’t no injun ever made a light bulb, refrigeration unit, semiconductor or even a nice mattress. The amount of suffering Americans have reduced through science, technology and math has grossly outweighed the suffering it has caused. Shit, one guy, Norman Borlaug, is credited with saving a billion lives from starvation. Then again, maybe that was a bad thing.

  13. From Wikipedia: The DC government is within the Legislative branch of the Federal govt, which makes their govt a Federal agency.

Therefore DC was never supposed to be a state. The only way to make it a state would be an Amendment to the Constitution. Thankfully, 38 states would never approve it (I hope). Any backhanded attempt to give it statehood by majority rule of a democrat controlled Congress would be struck down by the Courts – that is if they still follow the Constitution. By hook or crook, Pelosi/Schumer & their ilk want a permanent democrat majority.

With their 3 electoral votes plus their small size, DC is already over-represented in presidential elections. They were not even allowed to vote in national elections until 1964, with passage of the 23rd Amendment. If the residents of DC wish to vote for members of Congress, there is an easy fix. Move the hell into Maryland or Virginia. DC’s Metro, which I’ve been on many times, provides excellent transportation into the city.

…very much in error. It was a sop to the civil rights movement. Which is good– for us. Now that DC is becoming whiter than black, the rationale is gone. (If you count “white Hispanics” and subtract immigrant blacks, the gap may already be in whites’ favor.)

In the meantime I hear that the Anarchists of Canada, N.America and beyond (true Anarchists, nor rioters) are gathering in the south.

I also hear, though am not surprised, that Britain is finished through lack of resistance. A prison island, for those who remain.

  29. The history is a wee bit off here. The Battle of New Orleans settled nothing, as it took place two weeks after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war with England. The redcoats who were mowed down by Jackson’s men (in his force were many “colored men” of New Orleans and the pirate Jean Lafitte) included many of Cockburne’s soldiers, who had easily routed the 7,000 man US force defending Washington at the Battle of Bladensburg five months earlier. The British then proceeded to burn the government buildings in DC in retaliation for the two destructive American raids on York (modern Toronto), the capital of Upper Canada, in 1813. Britain had no desire to repossess North American territory, but sought to teach the upstarts a lesson about the folly of trying to “tweak the British lion’s tail” while he was distracted by his long European war.

It’s also a trifle surprising that neo-Confederates would object to the removal of monuments to Andy Jackson. When South Carolina first threatened to secede from the Union in 1832, during the Nullification Crisis, President Jackson informed the treasonous governor that he would personally lead the federal army against him, and clip his ears to keep as souvenirs of the earned fate of traitors.

DC would quickly be put on the top of numerous “Worst state” lists.

Their abysmal yet expensive education system would be brought to the forefront.

There would no longer be the excuse of the Feds being responsible.

DC currently serves the purpose of showing White high schoolers from around the country as to what a Black area looks like. The fact that liberal teachers still do the annual DC trip only shows what morons they are. Nothing implants skepticism like a trip to a Black area. Nothing. You really have to see it in person to experience it. As Bernie Sanders said about Baltimore: it is really like a third world country.

If America had been left to the natives, it’d still be a primitive, savage shithole like it was for the last 15k years minus 400

The Americas would have been taken by Asians if the Europeans left it alone.

Japan was destined to industrialize and become an imperial power. They just made the doofus mistake of attacking the US.

The only way to keep the Americas as an egalitarian fantasy of primitive tribes warring with each other would be to somehow keep all other countries de-industrialized.

The real tragedy is how much of South America was turned into a favala. Liberals and egalitarians can hate Whitey all they want but Northern half at least comes up with improvements that help everyone. Much of South America is really just a bunch of poor kids chasing some starving cat around a ghetto. I really wish the libs could see how much animal abuse exists in the third world. They might still hate Whites but it would at least change their delusional “noble poor” attribute they place on the third world as a form of compensation.

  33. DC was formed by taking land from Virginia and Maryland. Give some of it back! Look at the map of DC. Start by giving the area south of the Anacostia river back to Virginia. Give the area west of Rock Creek back to Maryland. That would eliminate half this problem and those folks could now vote.

  34. @Kali

A new direction is needed for sure.
As for monotheism, I have long questioned whether “the religions of Abraham” are truly monotheistic. The “1st commandment” recognizes that other gods exist, but demands that they be secondary gods. If they exist, who are they, and what do they have to say that isn’t covered by “the one true god”, and is what they say in conflict?
The late D.M. Murdock (aka Acharya S) made bashing Christianity a full time job, often referring to Christianity’s basis coming from Egyptian gods. She made many good points, but the problem, from my perspective is that if Christianity came from a rabbi (Jesus) who had studied ancient texts in Egypt to learn their secrets, how is Judaism exempt from that, and by extension, Islam? Lots of faults in the current version of monotheism, and there were likely lots of faults since day 1. Are we to reject everything? Should we believe that elephant headed gods or gods with many arms are better or more credible?

The Spanish didn’t have the wherewithal to bring their women with them like the English did and they didn’t have the foresight to gun everyone down that was half naked and brown like the English did. So South America is a mess of half-breeds who are smart enough to sort of function, but not smart enough to excel in anything useful.

When you get lots of blacks like Brazil does, that’s when the favela shit happens. You can take the monkey out of the jungle, but you can’t take the jungle out of the monkey, especially when you dump the monkey back in a jungle and then give them civil rights n’ shit. I’m starting to really appreciate the caste system the Spanish had. Believing in universal human equality when you can literally trace IQs with latitude and sunlight hours (a proxy for skin pigmentation) is some dumb shit.

  36. Are we to reject everything? Should we believe that elephant headed gods or gods with many arms are better or more credible?
We are sick, to be sure. Consensus on the cure is another matter.

No we are not supposed to reject everything.

We are supposed to accept the Liberal True Way which is not a religion because Liberal True Way Offical Academics say so. It merely has certain unprovable beliefs that are not to be questioned like equal distribution of traits among populations that were separate for over 100k years. If you question this belief you will be branded as a Racist One for life and banished from any intellectual sphere. Again, not a religion because Liberal True Way followers agree that it isn’t.

  37. No statehood for DC! Government of the lawyers, by the lobbyists, for the government.

It’s already highly offensive that the Government gets a say (three Electoral votes!) in how the government should be operating. Of course the Government is always going to vote for MORE of itself.

    Abolish #23!

Bigger picture, the total federal welfare case states, like AK and HI, should be kicked out of the Union. 7 more Electoral votes for the USG (including 4 for the USN).

For that matter, those sparsely populated, western/mountain states are really just pockets of settlement surrounded by vast stretches of federal lands, i.e. they’re not truly differentiated from the USG; still more, reliable Electoral votes for more government.

Either those areas should be de-stated, or else the government should be forced to auction off the public lands within those faux-state boundaries.

The Republicans dumped Whites when Nixon continued all LBJs pro black programs, created the affirmative action Hispanic race funded thousands of radical organizations and enforced affirmative action.

Republicans have always been the party of the blacks from 1856 , Eisenhower’s sending the army to integrate schools, to the Republicans ramming through the 1964 civil rights act to Nixon’s embrace of affirmative action. And allowing the federal government to fund everything from the original Black Panthers to giving Bernadine Dohrn a federal paycheck when she planted a bomb in Park Police Station San Francisco.

There are 2 anti White parties in America and no pro White party or any kind of pro White organization at any level.

He’s written a lot of articles about growing up in DC in the 1940s when it was a White ruled town. Now he decries the criminality and violence but never mentions why DC, like every black ruled city, became criminal ghettos when blacks took over.

I visited the summer I turned 10. I believe it was then I began to distrust my parents and the newspapers endless lies about the poor oppressed blacks.

I’d never seen groups of blacks before. I was shocked by the screeching howling and movement. They gesticulated, arms and legs flying in all directions, and constantly stepping back and forth and sideways. I remember enjoying Mt Vernon and some of the museums because there were no blacks in them.

But go outside, and there they were. There was a trip through Baltimore through a black neighborhood Yikes!!!!

Biggest memory was sitting in the window of a coffee shop eating lunch and looking out at a sidewalk full of blacks screeching and cavorting about.

Aunt told me that in the old days before electric fans and air conditioners DC residents often slept in their yards if they had yards and if not, parks and the mall in summer. They’d fix a picnic dinner and head for the park with pillows and blankets and sleep till dawn. Friends told her it stopped in the 1940s.

Now that’s a nice high trust society where people can sleep outside in city parks on hot summer nights.

Most important is the Indian Money as the Indians call it. I don’t know what the official term is. Every Indian, even 1/8 and 1/16 gets a federal check from day of birth to death. It’s not means tested. They get it no matter how high their income.
It’s enough to live on in tribal housing tribal utilities benefits like tribal hospitals. It’s a nice supplement if they go out in the world. Especially as the kids and non working spouses get it no matter how much the bread winner makes. No one else gets a government check for the kids unless the family’s on welfare or a kid is disabled.

There’s too few of them to really have much power, even in the Dakotas Minnesota Oklahoma Arizona New Mexico. Why should they get involved in all these Jewish black Hispanic criminal LBGQCT anti American anti White front groups?

The Hispanics and normal gays and blacks are staying aloof from these black anarchist socialist alternative mostly White unemployed useful idiots of Soros and the rest of the destroy America crew.

In the 1970s the Jews found a few Indians like Russel Means who agreed to be spokes critters for the Destroy America crew. It only lasted a few years.

You’re not familiar with either individual Indians or the tribal and other organizations are you? If you were, you’d know that American Indians are reasonably content, their needs are taken care of whether they work or not and they never need be homeless, there’s always tribal housing waiting. Might be a concrete block house on a frozen Rez up near the Canadian border, but it’s housing.

Unlike stupid liberal Whites, they don’t attend anti White indoctrination schools K-BA, graduate and find they can’t get a job, have nowhere to go and no guaranteed income.

  49. Maybe the DEMs are on to something?

First convert DC into a state, and then move the nation’s capital to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (or Moonbase Alpha).

I do agree that the nominal “monotheism” of Judaism, and by extention, Christianity and Islam, is a widely accepted myth, but within Islam and Christianity, and within large swathes of Jewish identity, the myth has become the central ideology. So I use the term “mono-god religions” as a simple reference to the big three. – Of course little is ever as simple on the inside as it appears on the outside.

Are we to reject everything? Should we believe that elephant headed gods or gods with many arms are better or more credible?

I’ve not studied this very deeply, but it is my understanding that the many-armed, elephant headed “gods” of the Hindu religion, are presented as “avatars” or aspects of “Shiva/Shakti” the male/female “godhead” (male principal first, because it denotes the masculine, active, energy, without which the female, receptive energy remains dormant) which contains all aspects of existance. In other words they are “architypes” representing the spiritual aspects of the huge array of mankinds material existance.
It’s an interesting aproach to theology, reflected in the Christian system through its use of archangels.

All of that said, I’m not advocating the “supremacy” of any theilogical ideology. I look around and I see that, despite the wisdom contained within various religious ideas, they have all failed to lift mankind, as primacy has been placed on “authority” of force, of hierarchy, rather than egalitarian leadership and guidance. It seems that those with power over others (religious, political, financial, etc) invariably seek the consolidation of that power for selfish and egotistical reasons.

Having just spent another amazing weekend amongst a gathering of predominantly young adults, the now adult children of the hippies and new-age travellers, the inheritors of an applied philosophy grounded in freedom, creativity and egalitarianism. And though those youngsters do look to us few scattered “elders” for guidance (particularly on interpreting the geopolitical landscape) they do not look to us for “leadership”. They live their lives in accordance with their own experiences and recognition of our potential as a species, demonstrating support for the physical, creative and emotional needs of each other. This is applied anarchy, if you will. No rulers, but rules of conduct and behaviour.

Whist most of us older folks have been arguing about political, econimic and/or religious “solutions” to the “sea of trubles” in which we find ourselves, huge numbers of our young people (many under the life-style influence of their hippie parents) have turned their backs on the “old-world order” which has brought the world to the brink of disaster.

Through ~3 generations a new culture has coalesced, beyond the bounds and restrictions of “traditional cultural norms”. That new culture is, in this third generation, maturing into an intelligent vission, which brings our creative and loving aspects to the fore. Outwardly passive, but strong, and determined and prepared to challenge the “authority” of the state. They listen and take on board the advice of us older subversives, who have been watching the political games of the “oligarchs” and know what may be coming next, and how we might defend ourselves from it.

If these youngsters and this new culture is in any way determinate of the future of humanity and the world, then my natural optimism is justified.

We are sick, to be sure. Consensus on the cure is another matter.

The new cultural paradigm, if it emerges into a driving force, requires no “consensus on the cure” besides the acceptance of personal responsibility and mutual support.

We may, if we are very lucky, emerge from these current crisis into a post-political, post-religious world order, to the benefit of the entire planet.

Of course, if we do not arrive at a consensus on the cure, if we do not give this burgeoning culture and inheritors of the hippie mantle our support (because, for example, we deem recreational used of psychedelics to be “wrong”) our support, then the ascendancy of this culture may be delayed by 100 years, and many will suffer as a result.

I realise I haven’t really answered your point regarding “consensus on the cure”, because I am advocating for just one potential cure. – Because I see no other anywhere on the horizon.

Politics and religion (not to be confused with spirituality) will be the end of us. I personally see no cure coming from those quarters.

    Fond regards,
    Kali.

If the residents of DC wish to vote for members of Congress, there is an easy fix. Move the hell into Maryland or Virginia.

The Virginians did just that, in 1847. Except they didn’t move themselves, but the border.
