“The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia … to influence the 2016 US presidential campaign.”

So stated Attorney General William Barr in his Sunday letter to Congress summarizing the principal findings of the Mueller report.

On the charge of collusion with Russia, not guilty on all counts.

After two years of hearing from haters in politics and the media that President Donald Trump was “Putin’s poodle,” an agent of the Kremlin, guilty of treason, an illegitimate president who would leave the White House in handcuffs and end his days in prison, we learn the truth.

It was all a bright, shining lie.

Reeling from Trump’s exoneration, big media are now scurrying to their fallback position: Mueller did not exonerate Trump of obstruction of justice.

But Mueller was not obstructed. No one impeded his labors.

As for Trump’s rages against his investigation, they were the natural reaction of an innocent man falsely accused and facing disgrace and ruin for a crime he did not commit, indeed, a crime that had never been committed.

The House Judiciary Committee may try to replicate what Mueller did, and re-investigate obstruction. Fine. This would confirm what this whole rotten business has at root always been about: a scheme by the deep state and allied media to bring down another president.

The Mueller investigation employed 19 lawyers and 40 FBI agents. It took two years. It issued 2,800 subpoenas. It executed 500 search warrants. It interviewed 500 witnesses. And it failed to indict a single member of Trump’s campaign for collusion with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

Which raises this question:

If Mueller could find no collusion, after an exhaustive two-year search, what was the compelling evidence that caused James Comey’s FBI and Barack Obama’s Department of Justice to believe that such collusion had occurred and to launch this investigation?

Sunday, after Barr’s summary of the Mueller report became public, Trump aired his justified anger: “It’s a shame that our country had to go through this. To be honest, it’s a shame that your president has had to go through this. … This was an illegal takedown that failed.”

Is there not truth in this?

Millions of Americans still believe what is now a manifest falsehood — that their president collaborated with Putin in cheating Hillary Clinton out of the presidency. The legal bills of Trump, his family, his campaign aides and his White House staff must be huge. Careers, reputations have been damaged.

The nation has been distracted and bitterly divided over this since Trump’s first days in office. He has had a cloud over his presidency since he gave his inaugural address. Any ability the president had to fulfill his campaign pledge and negotiate with the largest country on earth, Russia, a superpower rival, has had to be put off.

Is it unfair to ask: Who did this to us?

Who led the Justice Department into believing Trump conspired with the Russians? Why did it take two years to discover there was no collusion? Who gave Putin and the GRU this victory by helping to tear our own country apart?

Our establishment is forever demanding apologies. Where are the apologies for the outrageous accusations that Trump was guilty of something next to treason?

Sen. Joe McCarthy did not do a fraction of the damage to the reputations of Dean Acheson or George Marshall that the elite media have done, unjustly and maliciously, to the reputation of Donald Trump.

Years after French Artillery Capt. Alfred Dreyfus was convicted of colluding with the Germans in the late 19th century, and was sent to Devil’s Island, evidence against another officer emerged.

Soon, it was Dreyfus’ accusers who were in the dock of public opinion.

That needs to happen now. The instigators of this investigation, launched to bring down a president, have damaged and divided this nation, and they need to be exposed, as do their collaborators in the press.

ORDER IT NOW

The roots of Mueller’s investigation go back to the Clinton campaign’s hiring of the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on Trump. Fusion GPS hired ex-British spy Christopher Steele. He had sources in Russian intelligence who provided him with the contents of his infamous dossier. This was delivered to a grateful cabal at the FBI, which used it as the basis of a FISA court warrant to surveil the Trump campaign.

The dirt in the Steele dossier, much of it false, would be secretly shared with Trump-haters in the media to torpedo his candidacy; then, when Trump won, to destroy his presidency before it began.

Now that Trump has been exonerated, the story of how his accusers, using the power of the state, almost murdered a presidency with lies, propaganda and innuendo, needs to be brought out into the sunlight.

For democracy dies in darkness, and this can’t happen again.

Well, most of us who visit the Unz Report have known this was bullshit since before the election, so it good to get it cleared up.

This is merely the beginning though. We need to punish those who launched the witch-hunt and those who operated it. The most important thing we need to find out though, is WHY the top democrats and people surrounding them were so desperately afraid of a Trump victory. What did they have to hide?

Trump may be somewhat rough around the edges, but he isn’t anything like the radical he was smeared as. And he is objectively more ‘qualified’ than Obama as far as skills and management experience. Why did trump freak the establishment out so badly? The level of rage and panic was unprecedented.

I hope we get to the bottom of this. I suspect it goes pretty deep.

The loony, tin foil hat left, which includes unz.com trolls like “Corvinus” have much egg on their ugly faces over their insistence of Russian collusion by Trump which was just shown to be a gigantic lie. Anyone with half a brain or not blinded by ideology could have seen it.

Now they’ll move on to “obstruction” since Mueller planted the poison pill that even though there’s no evidence of even that, nevertheless he (Mueller) can’t fully clear Trump on that charge. That’s highly uncharacteristic of a prosecutor as you either indict if the evidence exists or you don’t.

You don’t not indict the suspect but allude to possible guilt with no evidence. But it really doesn’t matter because the DOJ cleared Trump of the obstruction charge after examining the evidence in the report. Case closed.

So now it looks like some quarters of the loony left are saying that Mueller might be a Russian agent or have been co-opted by Russia. Most of their websites and journals have sunk to the status of Mad Magazine or The Onion like satire.

This fiasco made me rethink Watergate.

We’ve been led to believe that courageous media and decent people in government cooperated to bring down Nixon the crook. And this seemed persuasive to lots of people because (1) there was a burglary and (2) there was cover-up.

Buchanan offered a counter-narrative. There was a deep state coup with cooperation with the media. The deep state and media used unethical and dirty tricks to bring down Nixon. It was tricky Dick vs trick Deep State. Nixon and people around him were guilty of something, but the main motivation of deep state and media was something else. They hated Nixon and were willing to DO ANYTHING to bring him down. They played as dirtily or even more so than Nixon. Also, they covered up worse potential scandals by Kennedy and Johnson.

Maybe, but because the Watergate affair was so stupid and unnecessary and because Nixon did cover up the his henchmen, the move to impeach and convict Nixon seemed just at the time.
But precisely because Nixon was dirty, maybe the nation failed to notice how dirty the deep state and media were as well. And because deep state and media brought Nixon down, maybe people naively believed in the narrative of good people in government and courageous media VS evil Tricky Dick Crook Nixon. Maybe it was really scum vs scum. One scum lost, but the winning side was also scum.

Now, this thing with Russyteria revealed how dirty, foul, corrupt, vile, vicious, ugly, retarded, demented, and disgusting the deep state and big media can be. Granted, it’s possible that media and deep state back then weren’t as crazy and demented as they are now. (It certainly wasn’t as morally decrepit and culturally decadent.. though lots of hanky panky behind the scenes. There was still the culture of shame. Also, as Jews hadn’t finalized the takeover of the US with decadent globalism and Convergence of ‘free trade’ with the ‘poz’, there was more balance of power among Wasps, Jews, Catholics, Big Labor, traditionalism, liberalism, and etc. Today, more than ever, the media are just an endless Jewish Hate Propaganda Machine and globo-homo veneration.) If there’s a silver lining about Russysteria, it’s that there are total scum all over deep state and media. Total scum.

Anyway, it’s very likely that the fall of Nixon was really about scum vs scum. Good guys didn’t win. Bad guys got rid of a bad guy they didn’t like.

Justice doesn’t decide. Power decides. And the power is held by Deep State and Jews.
If justice wins in the end, US would have admitted what it did to Palestine. US would have tried and convicted those who pulled WMD hoax. Instead, we got Russia Collusion hysteria.

Why would Power prosecute and convict itself?

So we will have more of this:

  14. Excellent summary by Pat Buchanan.

Buchanan’s overview is concise and he is asking the right questions, too.

Indeed, it is likely that the deep state operatives who cooked up this malicious fairy tale will walk away freel–not unlike like the cabal of ‘intelligence sources’ who claimed falsely that WMD and nuclear fuels were being held inside Saddam’s Iraq. Those venomous and untrue allegations helped produce a monumental catastrophe, otherwise known simply as the ‘Iraq War’.

As with the destruction of Iraq, there will be no serious penalty or even lasting shame for the parties responsible for this latest fiasco.

In fact, these ruthless subversive will continue to defame President Trump, and worse. They will remain free, influential, probably unidentified, and fully able to plot their next war or subterfuge.

This process is now routine. It occurs because America’s Deep State and America’s MSM are one. This is concentrated power. This is concentrated malignant power.

    As further evidence, consider this:

Isn’t it remarkable that–with all the puffed-up concern over ‘foreign interference’ in one US Presidential election–that not one high-standing TV journalists, prominent commentator, syndicated print editorialists, or leading public intellectual has dared state the obvious:

that there is indeed one foreign power that does routinely meddle in US elections and does interfere continuously within America’s corrupt and compromised political process.

Yet not elite ‘critic’ outside the internet dares mention this glaring fact or dares to identify this foreign power.

  15. Trump needs to go full “Night of the Long Knives” over this. I mean, surround the FBI building, the Department of Justice and the CIA with Marines and march out the employees. Use military criminal investigators to find out what was going on and charge the people responsible with sedition. Defy any House subpoenaes and intimate that Members of Congress and the media who collaborated with the FBI et al. will also be subject to arrest and prosecution. If the courts don’t seem interested, declare martial law and try these people in military tribunals. An attempted coup has been thwarted and there needs to be retribution.

He didn’t. This is one of the facts US punditry cannot get straight. Skripal or some SBU BSers are not “sources in Russian intelligence”. No one of consequence in Russian intel would talk to Steele whose last appearance in early 1990s in Moscow makes him anything but competent and well connected operative. Thus it was no surprise that his so called “dossier” was a collection of BS picked up from…CNN “sources” and possibly other BS “collected” by fully discredited and disgraced (probably dead now) Skripal.

  35. Corvinus says:

“So stated Attorney General William Barr in his Sunday letter to Congress summarizing the principal findings of the Mueller report.”

A summary! Of course Patrick, still smarting all these years that his former boss was outed for being a crook, has to find something to gravitate to. Here is the fact of the matter.

    Barr concluded that Mueller:

    1. did not have enough proof of obstruction to convict.

    2. did not find enough proof of conspiracy to convict, but does not offer judgement on the proof of obstruction he found.

PROOF is defined as any evidence that tends to make your position on a matter in a dispute more likely. INDICTMENTS require a certain amount of PROOF on whether a defendant is guilty or innocent. The level of PROOF required for a prosecutor to get an INDICTMENT of a defendant–the amount of evidence on the question whether a suspect is guilty that a prosecutor must have to move a case into the criminal justice system–is set at the level of PROBABLE CAUSE.

When a prosecutor says “I do not have enough proof to bring an indictment”, it means there is “insufficient proof” on a matter of dispute–the suspect’s guilt–to reach the “probable cause” standard of proof required for indictment. Trump’s defenders say there is “no evidence/no proof” of collusion. Except there was PROOF. Mueller has tons of it in his report after nearly two years of investigating. Mueller MET the PROBABLE CAUSE standard.

The issue is that Mueller needed to have PROOF at a much higher level than PROBABLE CAUSE to secure a conviction. To secure a CONVICTION means a prosecutor must have PROOF that is BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT–a term meaning a decision by a judge or jury that a given defendant is in fact guilty.

Under the ethical guidelines governing Mueller’s work, he is not supposed to seek an INDICTMENT of a defendant unless and until he believed he had enough PROOF to secure a CONVICTION as well. He had enough PROOF at the PROBABLE CAUSE level to get an INDICTMENT–it is detailed in his report–but he believes a jury will not CONVICT the defendant because there is not PROOF BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT.

There are two standards here–the media is mixing up the terms really badly.

Mueller could proceed with the case–he could INDICT the defendant since there is enough PROOF, but he chose not to because he cannot CONVICT him. Why? The standard for BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT is that the PROOF must be at a 90% level to secure a CONVICTION. Mueller in his report provided the percentages of his PROOF. PROBABLE CAUSE is 25% of PROOF that someone committed a crime, while BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT is 90%.

You need to distinguish EVIDENCE and PROOF. In short, PROOF is a *type* of EVIDENCE. When Trump defenders say “no EVIDENCE” what they actually mean is “no PROOF”—though they are ridiculously misstating their case in both instances. Mueller had PROOF of conspiracy enough to INDICT (at the level of PROBABLE CAUSE). But he did not have the PROOF that was BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT (necessary for a CONVICTION). Remember, Mueller was conducting a narrow scope of the overall collusion question (which there are almost two dozen ongoing investigations on this and other matters)–whether Trump was engaged in a “conspiracy” with two Russian entities, the IRA or the GRU.

Since one can collude through obstruction of justice, and because Mueller did say he found PROOF of that crime, we know he found PROOF of COLLUSION…just not enough to secure a CONVICTION. Moreover, Congress does NOT require PROOF that is BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT to deem someone a national security threat. That is up to each member of Congress.

Mueller performed honorably. More than likely, he farmed out several cases to other jurisdictions because it was not under his purview to delver further into those matters. But he did find PROOF in several other areas during the course of his investigation that has resulted in other jurisdictions looking into Trump and his associated.

So, does anyone here have any issue if the public and Congress is able to view the full Mueller Report?

  36. Corvinus says:
    @Buck Ransom

“Now the Democrats are insisting that the full Mueller report be released to the world. ”

The Establishment was afraid of Trump because they did not select him. The 2016 election was originally supposed to be a Jeb vs. Hillary contest. Both Trump and Bernie represented populist uprisings against the Neoliberalism (free trade and military intervention) of the middle.

Trump ran on his own money until the primary. Bernie ran on small donations form millions of people. Thus both were able to take stances against Wall St. and the oligarchs that run the country.

In particular Trump during his campaign was against free trade agreements, wanted to bring the troops home from our endless wars, and thought we should get along with Russia. These policies were the exact opposite of what the Establishment wants.

The brilliance of blaming Trump’s victory on Russian interference is that it simultaneously 1) undermined Trump’s legitimacy and 2) prevented rapprochement with Russia.

Now the jig is up. Unfortunately, the story has been repeated for so long that it has been taken as fact. It may take some time for the reality that is was a fraud all along to sink in.

True. Trump bypassed the establishment star chamber that pre-selects political candidates which made them absolutely blind with rage. He was supposed to ask permission.

Trump’s financial portfolio has shrunk by over a billion dollars since his election and he’s not in a position to self fund his re-election campaign which means he needs donors, which means he needs (((Sheldon’s shekels))) which means he can only get them if he reinvents himself as a cheap imitation of Jeb! and Marco Rubio while giving Israel more than they demand from us.

And so you tell me…what, exactly, are my options?

If someone challenges him in 2020 who I think will do a better job, I’ll vote for that person, notwithstanding Trump’s having been sandbagged for over two years by this treasonous, despicable hoax. But I can’t think of anyone any better who might challenge him (besides — I’d like to see him re-elected in a landslide if only to send an unmistakable message to the Dims and Leftist media; i.e., in their non-stop, outrageous, over-the-top efforts at removing him via coup, all they did was assure his re-election. That would be some sweet irony). He’s done some good things that are lasting, such as getting two purported Constitutionalists on the Supreme Court. And as much as you and others hate neo-Cons such as Bolton — are we at war now? If we go to war at their urging, I will acknowledge your point.

Maybe, just maybe, the phrase for this is “making the most practical choice among realistic alternatives” or “voting for Trump with eyes wide-open.”

“I explained that already (pretty clearly, I think) in my first post.”

No, it’s the American public. Again, why would you be opposed to something that (allegedly) exonerated Trump? What would you be scared of?

“Maybe if you ask them nicely, your Hasbara handlers can enroll you in a class to get your reading comprehension skills up to snuff.”

I see you are also pressing the “anyone who opposes me must be a Jew or a Jew supporter” button very vigorously. But if that is what you have to do to make yourself happy, go right ahead.

The leaders of this failed coup d’état are arguably guilty of ‘High-Treason’.

They are most certainly guilty of all the lesser included offenses, to wit: Insurrection, Rebellion, Sedition, Espionage, Conspiracy, Obstruction-Justice, Prosecutorial-Misconduct, Fraud upon the Courts, …

Several of those offenses are Capital Offenses, and subject to the Death Penalty. Hang them!

  49. If it was an “illegal takedown that failed,” why isn’t there a new investigation into who is responsible for this? Why aren’t they being arrested and in handcuffs? This is just another example of the complete breakdown of law and order. Law and order is only imposed on Republicans, Conservatives or white people.

The democrats are engaged in a conspiracy to only prosecute Republicans, Conservatives or whites. Everyone else gets total immunity. This is being played by local judges, local prosecutors and district attorneys, the democrat politicians, and the media. Not to mention the already corrupt Supreme Court which is owned and operated by Soros and his minions.

When will there be a return of justice for all in this Country?

“And so you tell me…what, exactly, are my options?”

The Establishment provides no options that threaten its power. Voter participation channels and diffuses dissidence, which is why Washington tells you how important it is to “our democracy.”

The President has leveled the charge of ‘High-Treason’.

CInC Trump should order the military to arrest Junta members in DC.

And DOA ‘WANTED-Notices’ should be posted in all federal facilities.

one is forced to wonder why Democrats spent so much time on this and why media like CNN MSNBC NYT and even Fox kept on spinning the thread.

While I don’t know why Fox would do it, for the rest it is like WorkingClass pointed out – as long as Trump was being investigated, he could not run an investigation on Hillary and the Deep State connections. The perps of the hoax could not be prosecuted. They were hoping Mueller would take so long that a Democrat would be President and they would be out of the woods. They were on offense hoping to keep Trump on defense forever.

  53. MarkinLA says:

My version of why this whole hoax started is related to what I remember Chuck Todd saying about all the hatred directed toward Hillary at the waning days of the campaign. He mentioned that CNN did not cover all the “Hillary for Prison” signs popping up in neighborhoods in battleground states because of “political correctness”. Yeah, imagine if they had been “Trump for Prison” what CNN would have done with it.

Hillary’s campaign team knew she was sinking and they knew the best way for her to win was to make people think she had it in the bag so likely Trump voters would stay at home. That was why there was all that “in the bag” nonsense from the press and why she didn’t visit those states – every time she showed her face her poll numbers dropped and people became more determined to vote against her. Everybody in her campaign and the media knew it.

The problem was that did the Trump campaign know how close to victory they were? Obama and Hillary needed to know. That is why they ginned up this hoax. Now they could use the intelligence service to find out.

Since Trump won, they had to double down to make sure they kept Trump on defense to save their own asses.

Okay…then carry on with your sense of superiority while doing nothing…other than criticizing others for their opinions or actions.

The real gate that stayed closed to scrutiny- it s the Israel Gate

Haim Saban, one of Hillary Clinton’s top five donors in 2016, has financed opponents of Democratic candidates critical of Israel; opposed the bid of Keith Ellison, the black Muslim congressman, for Democratic National Committee chairman in 2016, calling him “an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel person”; briefly partnered with the top Republican donor and settlement supporter Sheldon Adelson on an initiative to combat B.D.S. on American college campuses; and publicly thanked Jared Kushner for pressing Russia to delay or defeat the 2016 United Nations resolution condemning settlements.
