“Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician.” So says Hillary Clinton of her former Senate colleague and 2016 rival for the Democratic nomination, Bernie Sanders.

Her assessment of Sanders’ populist-socialist agenda?

“It’s all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.”

Does that assessment still hold with Sanders now running strong in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada, and having emerged, according to The New York Times, as “the dominant liberal force in the 2020 race”?

“Yes, it does,” said Clinton, who left open the possibility she might not support Sanders if he became the nominee.

In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote a documentary that premieres Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival, Clinton also tore into Bernie’s backers.

“It is not only him. It’s the culture around him. It’s his leadership team. It’s his prominent supporters. It’s his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women,” said Clinton. “It should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted (he) seems to be very much supporting it.”

From her own words, Clinton regards Sanders as a nasty man running a misogynistic campaign and a political phony whose achievements are nonexistent and who lacks the temperament to be president.

As Clinton describes Sanders, he seems to fit nicely into her Trumpian “basket of deplorables.” Reflecting the significance of Clinton’s attack, The New York Times put it on Page 1.

This comes one week after Elizabeth Warren, at the end of the last debate, confronted Sanders, who had denied ever telling her a woman could not win the presidency.

“I think you just called me a liar on national TV,” said Warren, twice. Sanders assuredly had. He then accused Warren of lying.

This is “a part of a pattern,” says Clinton, noting that Sanders said in 2016 that she was not qualified to be president.

What is Hillary up to? She is “hellbent on stopping Sanders,” says Obama strategist David Axelrod.

The bad blood between Bernie and two leading women in the Democratic Party calls to mind the battle between Nelson Rockefeller and Barry Goldwater, which did not end well for the Republican Party in 1964.

While the eventual GOP nominee, Goldwater, lost in a 44-state landslide to Lyndon Johnson, the liberal Republican establishment that Rockefeller led would never again be able to nominate one of its own.

It is difficult to see how this acrimony inside the Democratic Party — over the character, record, ideology and alleged sexism of Sen. Bernie Sanders — ends well for the Democrats.

Already, Bernie’s backers believe the DNC “rigged” the nomination in 2016 by feigning neutrality while secretly aiding Clinton. If Sanders now fails in the first primaries and loses his last chance for the Democratic nomination because of the Clinton-Warren’s attacks, it is difficult to see how Bernie’s backers enthusiastically support Warren.

As for Bernie backing Biden, the raison d’etre of the liberal-radical wing of the party to whom Sanders is a hero is that the Democratic establishment consistently sells out progressive values.

Sanders’ crowd consists of true believers, a trademark of whom is militancy. Such folks often prefer defeat behind a principled leader to victory for a corporatist Democrat they regard as the enemy within.

ORDER IT NOW

Assume Bernie defeats Warren in Iowa, bests Biden in New Hampshire, and then goes on to win the nomination. Would women, a majority of whom vote Democratic, and who are indispensable to party victory, surge to the polls to install a president whom Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren describe as a sexist who ruined their own presidential hopes?

Would Democratic women come out to vote for a candidate who was responsible, in two successive presidential elections, for keeping the glass ceiling firmly intact over the heads of the Democratic Party’s leading female candidates? Bernie has made some bad enemies.

Ten days before the Iowa caucuses, the great unifier of the Democratic Party remains Donald Trump. But now, with Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina dead ahead, the Democrats’ focus is becoming: Who should replace Trump?

The rival claims of the constituent elements inside the party are rising to the fore. And what they reveal is a Democratic Party that is a coalition of groups that seem to be dividing along the lines of ideology, politics, race, class and culture.
Consider the most loyal of Democratic constituents in presidential elections: African Americans. They are 13% of the electorate but a fourth of the national Democratic vote.

Yet, of the six candidates for the nomination on stage in the last debate, not one was African American. Not one was Hispanic or Asian. Four were white men, and two were white women.

The lone outsider rising in the polls is another white man, a multibillionaire who is willing to spend a billion dollars to buy the presidential nomination of the party of the common man.

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of “Nixon’s White House Wars: The Battles That Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever.”

  1. I am honestly surprised that Hillary is still alive after all of her health issues in 2016. Has anyone seen her in public lately?

  2. Looks like I’ll be supporting Bernie in 2020. Any candidate attacking the current foreign policy and economic system should be supported.

  3. From her own words, Clinton regards Sanders as a nasty man running a misogynistic campaign and a political phony whose achievements are nonexistent and who lacks the temperament to be president.

Hillary is giving voters a little taste of the future prematurely. Imagine, for a moment, that future — a time when only the democrats can win elections due to mass immigration. There is a single party that controls everything with no opposition. Then imagine all democrat nominees for presidential elections are selected, not by voters, but by party bosses like Hillary Clinton based on how said nominees will be for their socioeconomic class — their bank account. All other expressed concerns — taxes, healthcare, war, peace — are window dressing only, filtered through what is good for party leadership. All corporations are controlled by the democrat-party government and are required to maintain ridged ideological conformity to party doctrine through HR department apparatchiks; all corporations hire, fire, and advertise based on this doctrine. All police and military conform and none resist; they ruthlessly enforce the will of the bosses. There are occasional panics, Red Guard incidents where up-and-comers seek to prove their loyalty to the ruling class through extreme action against perceived enemies, real or imagined; statues are torn down, wrongthinkers are sought out and ruined. Imagine a police state that watches everything you do. Books are banned from private retailers (happening now). Search terms are censored. Whole websites are memory holed (already happening). Social media accounts are deleted for wrong think (happening for years). Billions are made and lost depending upon party connections, not talent or drive. Want to be rich? Toe the line. Want to break the law? Know the right … people. The real people, the masses, have no say in how the government is run. The media are controlled by that same party, and they say you have nothing to worry about — everything is fine: what you thought you saw, you didn’t see. That’s y0ur future. Now tell me, how is this substantially different from modern day China, besides the obvious exceptions that it will be even more corrupt and far less efficient? Oh, and one more exception: the Americans agreed to it all by choice! Land of the free and home of the brave … har har har. Greatest joke in American history, it’s just that no one got the punchline until after the curtain dropped.

  7. Well, Clinton is partially correct, Bernie is career politician, and has done nothing. However, IMO, sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something stupid, which is something career politician Biden has done, and Fauxcahontis Warren has done.

Bernie is a phony, but then so are all politicians, to a greater or lesser extent, irrespective of their tenure.

His apparent mistakes, like attributing the Roe v Wade ruling to the “Warren Court” in his previous column, seem intentional. There, he was hiding the truth about Republican judicial appointments. Today’s column shows that Mr. Buchanan is more concerned with undermining Team Blue and marginalizing Sanders supporters than with the facts of the matter.

It must drive the media nuts that Bernie polls better with younger voters. Apr 29, 2016 – Sanders Lost Rhode Island

Our news media reports that Bernie Sanders won Rhode Island with 55% of the vote. Few mention that as a result of this process, Clinton got 20 delegates and Sanders got 13.

  15. Meanwhile, Tulsi Gabbard has filed a $50M defamation suit against Queen Hillary for impugning her character and questioning her loyalty to the country by calling her a “Russian bot” and stating that she has been groomed by the Russians. Tulsi was talking about the suit tonight on Tucker Carlson’s show. As an Afghan war vet who is currently a major in the Hawaiian National Guard, she has good reason to be outraged.

I don’t know what the chances of the suit’s success would be, but, with Iowa and NH just around the corner, this seems like a brilliant tactical move that will get people talking about her. Now, if only Sanders had enough sense to realize that he is too old and worn out for the job, he should step aside and endorse Tulsi, who is the only one in that wretched field who can beat Trump. Perhaps that might shut up the increasingly detestable Warren.

The deep dark secret amongst boomer leftists is that they really liked Reaganomics. They’re invested in the same stocks and bonds as their neoconservative brothers and sisters. The cultural crazy stuff is designed to keep economic reform/restoration politically impossible. The upper middle class minorities/women are the best means of inserting a “Judas faction” amongst economic reform groups. Often following the orders of their Clinton Democrat paymasters. That’s what crippled Occupy Wall St. and partially sabotaged Bernie’s 2016 Presidential campaign.

Let me fix that for you, Pat. Actually, it is the Wall Street corporatist Democrats (the Clintonites) who prefer defeat for the party rather than to see any kind of progressive get elected. Bernie WOULD have won in 2016 if the Queen of Warmongers hadn’t stolen the nomination from him through chicanery by the DNC. She cooked her own goose. Everyone knows this. The never-ending post-election theatrics, book tours and still ongoing coup d’etat have been crafted of pure unadulterated bullshit. Everyone knows this as well.

Tulsi Gabbard, the only other non-sellout to corporatism and warmongering in the Democratic line-up, has also been as completely demonized by the party and its media tools as Bernie. Everyone knows this too, which is why the Dems will lose again and will fully deserve their defeat. What should motivate the country to choose from a list of candidates who have all the deficiencies of Trump but few of his “alpha” qualities that attract voters? Who needs any of those cheating, conniving, thoughtless, reckless, megalomaniacal, bitchy whiners? They are even more likely to screw things up than Trump almost certainly will, but without his bravado and panache.

‘That the DNC rigged the 2016 nomination is a fact, not an opinion.’

I’d say that’s kinda backwards. They thought they’d rigged the race, not the nomination. Bernie Sanders was there just to keep it from looking like a coronation for Hillary; he was so far Left that he couldn’t possibly pose a threat. That’s precisely why no obstacles were put in the way of his becoming a candidate.

Sanders was like a modern American version of that guy Diaz always used to allow to oppose him in nineteenth century Mexican elections; someone so off the wall that he could safely be allowed to run, giving a pleasantly democratic aura to what in fact wasn’t a contest at all.

But they miscalculated. Hillary was so unappealing, and her proposals so unattractive that people kept picking the Leftist fossil instead — and suddenly it was a race.

So then they had to scramble. Hence all the unseemly rigging. If things had just gone as planned…

And, of “the six candidates for the nomination on stage in the last [Democrat] debate, not one was” for curtailing surging immigration, either legal or illegal. Would Democratic women come out to vote for a candidate who was responsible, in two successive presidential elections, for keeping the glass ceiling firmly intact over the heads of the Democratic Party’s leading female candidates? Bernie has made some bad enemies.

Uh, in 2016, it was Trump who kept Hellary out of the White House. Bernie, let’s not forget, campaigned tirelessly for Hellary in the general election, even after she defrauded him in the primaries. And this is how she repays him? What a bitch!

The lone outsider rising in the polls is another white man, a multibillionaire who is willing to spend a billion dollars to buy the presidential nomination of the party of the common man.

I will never understand why Bloomy entered the race. Who is this man’s target demographic? Aren’t there enough pro-Wall-Street moderates in the race already? Is he really trying to syphon away votes from Creepy Joe? What gives?

Hands down, Trump was the most difficult opponent to run against. Democrats will never admit it, but Trump got in The Old Colostomy Bag’s head, pushing her to the brink of health and sanity.

There’s nothing new under the sun. I found myself alone as early as 2014 imploring that Hillary was planning on running as the Democrat version of HW Bush’s 1988 campaign. Both are quite similar as unappealing personalities. Hillary intended on sprinkling veiled criticism of Obama’s foreign policy akin to Bush’s “Kindler and gentler” sop.

When Obama was elected, I distinctly remember then assuming he would be their Reagan. When he proved anything but, only winning reelection against mediocre Romney by morphing from the post-racial uniter of 2008 into purveyor of nasty Identity Politics of 2012, Democrats and their allied media just made it up as a fairy story anyway.

It’s easy to forget this is the campaign Hillary intended to run but was forced to abandon in 2016 when Sanders became an existential threat.

It’s impossible to overstate the damage that the Democrats’ control of major, even prestige, media continues to do to Democrats. It was evident to me last fall that Trump was on track for reelection, yet the media kept claiming that any Democrat nominee would beat him. While over the last months they’ve climbed down a bit, they still won’t admit that Trump may well win 20% or more of the black vote, along with more than half of the hispanic vote. In other words, game over. Landslide.

Trump is Reagan ’84, but with seemingly unbounded energy and on a mission to be The Greatest POTUS Ever. He doesn’t just want (or need) to win reelection. He wants (and needs) to win back the House and hold the Senate. He is wholly integrating the battle over Congress into his reelection campaign. Something we’ve never seen before from a president running for his second term. That’s what the Democrats get for trying to destroy and remove him the moment he took the oath.

I distinctly remember my blithe dismissal of Reagan’s health issues after his shaky first debate performance. A landslide margin wanted for more years. An administration was in place to effectively run the government with a president of declining mental acuity and stamina. But Biden ain’t president and he’s not even running for president as the sitting vice president. He’s Mondale with Reagan’s early signs of dementia/Alzheimer’s. No party in its right mind would nominate him, but he’s needed at the moment as a placeholder with no ready substitute for the black vote.

It’s worth remembering that in 1984 the Democrats sank Gary Hart so they could keep control of the party. That impulse is even more present today given the riches party insiders will reap, even in losing by losing in a landslide. In other words, the alternative analogue — picking McGovern ’72 to discredit the left of the party — isn’t really being considered.

As globalism and its transnational business model has steadily gained ground, the respect for national borders had to go. “Borderless societies” became the very method through which the conglomerate transnational corporations could grow their markets. And in the Middle East, there is oil.

Globalism has led to enormous capital gain for a very small elite in the world. … only 62 individuals now own more than half of world assets. The same group owns over 90 % of US media, making it very easy to manufacture consent. In essence, critical journalism hardly exists anymore, as newspapers function as propaganda outlets bought up to serve corporate interests. ISIS is an example.

In 2014, as ISIS suddenly surfaced like lightening, depicted as “Islamic barbarism.” … Over night, they received enormous amounts of weapons, hundreds of Toyota pick-ups and full coverage in almost every single Western newspaper. It simply was an amazing PR stunt, a remarkable display of power.

We were told that ISIS, later IS “Islamic State” were much worse than Al Qaida. … beheadings of locals, rape and plunder, mass murdering other Muslims and terrorizing the civilians. …

It later turned out that it was an Obama/Hillary Clinton initiative, even partly financed by the Obama administration.

In short, the “glass-ceiling-breaking woman” (Clinton) and the “man of color” (Obama) turned out to be the banal criminals in service to the gangster organization of mega-war-profiteers who own “over 90 % of US media.”

Yes sir, her time in the Senate will go down in history, all right.

And presenting Hillary as a feminist champion is a shocking travesty as well. As wife of the Governor of Arkansas, Hillary fought and broke teachers’ unions largely composed of minority women. On the board of directors of Walmart, the nation’s largest employer of women, Hillary praised that company’s exploitative labor practices. As First Lady, Hillary was instrumental in her husband’s successful campaign to deprive women and their children of the basic social safety net under the guise of “welfare reform.” As Secretary of State she fought Haitian women’s efforts to get a tiny increase in minimum wage in American-owned sweatshops and in Honduras she helped replace the elected government with a junta that routinely employs the rape and murder of women in its reign of terror against its own people.

Madame Romney-in-a-Pantsuit also proposed a no-fly-zone over Syria, which would have been a direct military challenge to the Russian Federation – whose forces are there at the invitation of the legal, elected government and in defense of Russia’s vital national interests. We might well have dodged or at least postponed nuclear war by electing the orange-haired ninny.

    Blah, blah, blah…. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Anyways, that’s how I see the whole pathetic farce. Jewish-supremacist butt-hurt on acid, trying to impeach Trump for an offence not an iota as blatantly corrupt as Biden bragging (on video!) about holding back a billion dollars to Ukraine, unless they fired a prosecutor looking into his son’s corruption.

    “Son of a bitch”

With their hysterical antics, they’re actually helping Trump. (It’s sooo egregious, that I can’t help but wonder, if that’s the ultimate point).

  93. Would women, a majority of whom vote Democratic, and who are indispensable to party victory, surge to the polls to install a president whom Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren describe as a sexist who ruined their own presidential hopes?

Probably. I would suspect the majority of Democratic women would vote for Sanders.

What the last election showed us is that most women, and certainly most white women, are not all that hung up on “the first woman president.”

My favorite anecdote: Listening to right-wing talk radio during the Obama administration, a conservative woman called in to praise Obama for nominating Republican Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense. Obama was being trashed by the media for this, the real reason being Hagel was a critic of Israel, which is why Obama nominated him. But the media didn’t want people to know that, so they whined about how Hagel was “white” “conservative” “homophobic” and “not a woman.”

The conservative woman went on and on how she was totally fine with a woman President – as long as she wasn’t Hillary – but finally, after ribbing by the radio host, admitted, “you know, I would just feel better with a man in charge of the military.”

Only Boomer feminists believe in this Pussy Hat Hillary stuff. The young liberal progressive women were totally in the bag for Socialist Sanders.

And married white conservative women voted for Trump.

  94. I expected that the Democratic establishment would come down hard on Bernie, but I didn’t foresee it being this bad, with Warren’s nasty accusations, and Hillary and the New York Times piling on. I’m actually pleasantly surprised by all this, as it makes the nomination more likely to go to Biden, who I have already predicted would lose to Trump in November:

    https://www.twilightpatriot.com/2020/01/2020-predictions.html

The interesting thing about Bernie Sanders is that, despite his voodoo economics, he’s ultimately a patriot who believes in his ideals and refuses to serve monied interests. The dirty secret of the Democratic party is that, despite all its talk about being the party of the poor, every policy it pursues is ultimately catering to the interests of affluent coastal liberals. And this class of people, which forms the spine of the American left, will make sure that Bernie Sanders doesn’t get the nomination in 2020, just like they made sure he didn’t get it four years ago.

Bloomberg describes his whiteness only in pejorative terms and as if he is ashamed of his whiteness (even though he’s somewhat phenotypically white but not genetically European).

Ol’ feel the Bern Sanders does seem to be the left wing upstart reviled by the Democrat party elites just as Trump was a rightist populist upstart reviled by the GOP elites in 2016. The difference is that feel the Bern is a sincere and committed left wing socialist while Trump was saying what he had to to win over the the mostly right of center Republican base.

If Bernie doesn’t win the nomination his supporters will feel he got robbed yet again and probably stay home. If Biden wins the nomination he will likely alienate the the fast growing part of the Democrat base who look to the “The Squad” as the spiritual leaders of the party. Unless of course he selects a non-white, anti-white firebrand as veep which he will likely do.

That the Democrat party is in full throated civil war tells me the only way they can unite is behind a message of hating whitey, so we could see ADL-FBI concocted “white supremacist” plots that are foiled just in the nick of time (or not) and the (((media))) providing wall to wall coverage of evil white people and evil white police doing evil deeds to saintly minorities.

The subtext of all this will be that a Democrat must be elected to really go after all of the mean and wicked white people planning to harm non-whites. Jews will try to scare everyone back onto the Democrat plantation.

  98. Amusing to see how the establishment left deals with the threat of Bernie.

The “Bernie Bros” are like Russia Gate. They simply don’t exist–nothing but a media confection. I’ve seen plenty of articles whining about them but never an actual instance of a real person who fits the description that the Democratic Party, Inc is pitchforking into our highly receptive media.

Two forces at work here: The Democratic Party establishment, terrified of Bernie as candidate or President but equally terrified of actually attacking him on policy grounds (just like the Republican Party and Trump) and alienating voters they need. And then there is the coven of activist women in the party who are obsessed with the idea that the time for the first woman president is NOW! Their attitude towards any who might impede this worthy goal is “Crush! Kill! Destroy!”

So…the only thing to do is to generate and disseminate the ludicrous notion that Bernie is a “misogynist.” Or rather that he fosters, tolerates, is vaguely associated with, might have been in the same room with misogynists. Let’s be real: The most likely thing for a male Bernie supporter to say to a female is “Yes, mistress!” But somehow, the freak show that is the Democratic Party manages to sell with a straight face the notion of a radical left wing fraternity of Bernie Sanders Bros–Beta Sigma Beta–who promote radical left politics during the week and then spend the weekend drinking, whoring, and trolling/hacking/bullying the wymyn of the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, in contrast to all this knife-fighting over nothing, there is (((bipartisan))) support for a US policy of random missile strikes on countries who pose no threat to us, armed robbery of their energy resources, assassinations, starvation-sanctions, etc, etc. Nice to know that there is agreement on some things.

Who would prefer we all live in a sane time, of trade and mutual prosperity and spending the trillions on crumbling infrastructure and solving things like the opioid epidemic?

    Vladimir Putin, that’s who!

    Speaking of whom…….

    https://cluborlov.blogspot.com/2020/01/life-after-putin.html

…….on Wednesday Putin has launched a limited overhaul of the Russian Constitution. In addition to an entire raft of minor tweaks that will limit the powers of the President and give more powers to the Parliament, to provide for better checks and balances and a more democratically responsive system, there are a few proposed changes that stand out:

The word “consecutive” is going to be struck from Article 81.3: “The same person may not be elected President of the Russian Federation for more than two consecutive terms.” This wording created a loophole, which Putin duly exploited: after serving two terms, he sat out a term and then got elected for two more. This loophole will now be closed.

    • Article 14.4 is a rather curious one. It reads, in part: “If an international treaty or agreement of the Russian Federation imposes rules that are contrary to [Russian] law, the international rules shall be applied.” This creates a hole in Russian sovereignty which allows foreign bodies to overrule Russian law. This hole will now be closed.

Dual citizens and holders of foreign residency permits will now be barred from holding official positions within the Russian Federation. In addition, 25 years of Russian residency will be required of anyone running for President instead of the current 10. This may seem like a minor change, but it is causing Russia’s fifth-columnists and members of the liberal opposition to tear their hair out while gnashing their teeth because most of the current ones will be automatically disqualified from holding office while any future ones will be forced to choose between serving Russia and having a bug-out plan. More specifically, given their new outsider status, their Western masters will consider them useless and will no longer funnel funds to them or offer them free regime change training. This approach is sure to be more effective than the current, more labor-intensive one of playing whack-a-mole with foreign-financed NGOs and foreign agents attempting to infiltrate Russia’s government.

No wonder Coke and Pepsi both agree that Putin is Evil Incarnate and Russia must be smashed flat….eh?

The [Mexican] security forces fired tear gas to force the migrants back and rounded up those who managed to make it across.

Sanders hardly suggests anything that is not common in Western European countries. He does not advocate nationalizing industries, and compared to Corbyn, he is a centrist.

Whether it is about universal socialized healthcare, free college or other suggestions – that would be rather unremarkable in most European countries. Of course, it is quite different to aim for these goals in the US than just for keeping them, which generally is supported even by conservatives in Europe.

Furthermore, for all these economic policies, a majority in Congress would be needed. It can be assumed that there would be more leftists in Congress if Sanders was elected president, but they certainly will not have a majority, so there will be compromises.

On the other hand, in foreign policy, a US president has a lot of power, and this is the main reason why I think Sanders should be supported. He is less supportive of wars than the candidates apart from Gabbard (though he is not a principled opponent of wars of aggression like Corbyn). The best-case scenario, in my view, would be that Sanders needs Gabbard’s support for winning the nomination and she is then appointed to an influential position in his cabinet.

Well , perfectly right and even Hillary is already leading member in that basket of Deplorables…

” Rather unremarkable in most European countries”

Holy shit , can’t you read plain english or what is your problem, just why are you trying to school me in European affairs after I stated that I had resided for forty-plus years in Europe, attended university there and traveled extensively there as a pro jazz artist , and I most certainly am more versed in European issues than you by light years.

” I think Sanders should be supported”

And I think that you are out of your mind, and as a brain-washed leftist there is no hope for your recovery.

AJM “Mensa” qualified since 1973, airborne trained US army vet, and pro jazz artist.

Well they’ll certainly try, but if he’s so far in the lead?

“Bernie’s backers believe the DNC “rigged” the nomination in 2016 ”

It is not a belief, it’s a known truth thanks to the e-mails Seth Rich released.

I can’t stand Sanders. However, Warren was and is a congenital liar. All of them – Clinton, Sanders, Warren, Biden, etc. are loathsome. There is nothing Democrats want to do that is not destructive and terrifying. The Democratic Party has become a suicide cult. I don’t understand how any sane person could support their nihilistic agenda.
