While perhaps too early for Democratic elites to panic and begin bailing out on Hillary Clinton’s campaign as a doomed vessel, they would be well advised not to miss any of the lifeboat drills.
For Hillary’s campaign is taking on water at a rate that will sink her, if the leakage does not stop, and soon.
Initially, the issue of Hillary and the emails she sent and received as secretary of state seemed too wonkish, too complex, too trivial a matter to sink a candidacy as strong as hers.
Her nomination was considered as assured as any since Vice President Richard Nixon ran unopposed in 1960.
But since it was revealed that as secretary of state she used a private server for her emails, located in her home in Chappaqua, the bleeding of public trust has been unabated.
Her tortured explanation as to why she installed her own server only raised suspicions. Her erasure of 30,000 “personal emails,” her initial refusal to turn her server over to State, her denials she ever received confidential information, her wiping of the server clean, her stonewalling, have all ravaged her reputation for truthfulness. And truthfulness was never Bill or Hillary’s long suit.
And the issue of Clintonian entitlement and privilege has arisen again.
For Hillary showed a casualness in handling the nation’s secrets that would have cost a civil servant at State, Defense or CIA his or her security clearance and job. And they would be facing charges and potentially jail time.
Indeed, now that Justice and the FBI have been called in to look at Hillary’s handling of state secrets, it is not impossible that at the end of this road lies a federal indictment.
Should that happen, her campaign and career would be over. And should that indictment come later rather than sooner, the Democratic Party could be headed into the election of 2016 led by a Brooklyn-born septuagenarian Socialist.
Every day that new revelations come about Hillary and her emails, and every week that passes between now and when the filing deadlines for the primaries begin to fall, this becomes a real possibility.
Again, the problem here for Hillary and the Democratic Party is that the investigators at Justice, the FBI, and in a hostile Congress and the media, are far from wrapping this up.
They all have their teeth in it, and they are not going away. And there is nothing Hillary can do to halt the investigations, or plug the leaks, or, it seems, to change the subject.
What, really, is the relevance of her $350 billion plan to get the super-rich to pay off student loans, if Hillary is being lawyered up?
The Democratic Party is approaching the fail-safe point.
If it appears that Hillary is headed for the knacker’s yard, then to whom do the Democratic elites turn, and, equally important, when do they move?
For they cannot wait too long.
Hence, a “Draft Biden” movement has begun, and veterans of President Obama’s campaigns are signing on.
Yet the vice president should think long and hard about whether and when he plunges into the Democratic race. For his announcement of availability would be a signal that Joe Biden thinks Hillary is politically dead, or close to it, and he is coming in to drop the hammer.
This would be seen as act of crass political opportunism, seizing upon Hillary’s travails, shouldering her aside, and seizing a nomination millions of Democrats have long believed was hers by right.
How would the millions of Democratic women who have looked forward to the first woman president respond to Biden’s barreling in and finishing her off? How enthusiastic would those women and feminists be for a Candidate Biden who had delivered the deathblow to Hillary and blocked for another decade any chance of a woman as president?
Joe would certainly be up for Chauvinist of the Year 2015.
And other problems would arise for a Biden candidacy.
Would Bill and Hillary Clinton be out there stumping to help Joe win the presidency, when both had dreamed of her having it?
Joe would have to beat Bernie Sanders and rout the Elizabeth Warren liberals. He would have to woo back the big contributors in the Jewish community who believe Barack Obama and John Kerry threw Israel and Bibi under the bus to cut a deal that empowers the world’s leading “state sponsor of terrorism.”
If Joe is having second thoughts about getting in, who can blame him?
As the old saw goes, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”
But for Democrats, such counsel comes too late. Hillary is carrying their basket of eggs, and slipping all over the sidewalk.
If they procrastinate in designating someone else to catch the basket if it falls, they get Bernie. But if they move too soon, they will be charged with sabotaging the last best chance for America to elect a woman president.
A nice problem for those ubiquitous cable TV talking heads who identify themselves as “Democratic strategists.”

Hillary had her server wiped clean because she remembers the problems stemming from Lewinsky’s failure to wipe her dress clean.
If they can only get her on some technicality, I’m fine with that, but she should be on trial for war crimes. There’s nothing so great about a woman if she’s a maniacal war-hawk.
What was Chris Stevens doing in Benghazi, anyway? Funneling weapons and jihadis to Syria?
http://www.lrb.co.uk/v36/n08/seymour-m-hersh/the-red-line-and-the-rat-line
Hillary and her neocon and Zionist Lobby backers pressed for military action in Libya, then tried to get the same in Syria -but got havoc by other means. Sad that there’s no great alternative on the horizon, but Clinton is the pits.
I am a firm and longtime admirer, Mr. Buchanan, and wish I could once again vote for you. But in this case you name the solution to Mr. Biden’s and the Democrat Party’s solutions without noticing it. Were Mr. Biden to choose Elizabeth Warren as his running mate, he’d have a near lock on the presidency. Ms. Warren carries no baggage except her almost forgotten, faux Indian ancestry. She would lock in the liberal vote and the vote of mindless female voters. A stint as vice president would give her the gravitas for a presidential run in the wake of Mr. Biden thus assuring the Democrats an uninterrupted twelve to sixteen year lock on the White House; always assuming of course that Ms. Warren does not self-destruct a la La Hillary. Understand that I am no fan of Mr. Biden or Ms. Warren and that this scenario is a nightmare for me but, unfortunately, it’s a very plausible nightmare and one that none among the current crowd of Adelson-bought, clownish, Republican dwarves nor Donald Trump could stand against.
If Hillary Clinton drops out before Christmas (and I think there’s about a fifty percent chance she will), then its likely Elizabeth Warren would take another look at a possible run. Otherwise, if Biden were to be the nominee, Warren would undoubtedly be his 1st choice for Veep, which might help mollify some Feminist dissatisfaction.
My guess is, Trump/Sessions on the GOP ticket, beats Biden/Warren on the Democratic side, and probably by the biggest margin since 1988.
At this point any likely presidential slate terrifies me. The citizens of the United States are facing ruin because of a selfish, corrupt and inept ruling class, a kleptocratic cacocracy. Most of the people I meet are talking about voting against rather than voting for any potential candidates. I see no immediate hope of a national revival. I may vote for Trump just to send a signal of my contempt and disgust with the current situation.
Anybody who cares about the emails would never vote for Hillary anyway. Just like Monica Benghazi. Sanders and Trump are the anti Clinton and Bush. Maybe I should include Deez Nuts. Everyday Americans want a populist. Maybe you should run again Pat. You got my vote.
The people who works for hillary really need to rethink their strat.
Her criminality is as assured as any since President Richard Nixon ran in 1972.
What about Jim Webb? He seems like an old fashioned moderate Dem, plus he’s a war hero and former Secretary of the Navy under Reagan. Everyone is avoiding mentioning him because I think they’re afraid he might get some traction.
I listened to most of The Donald’s live appearance in Alabama last night on Fox News, and I could swear The Donald was doing a pretty good imitation of Pat Buchanan (even questioning why the U.S. had 26,000 troops in Korea right on the DMZ), until he planted a big sloppy wet kiss on Israel. The times have changed, and, just as many Americans now concede that Iraq was a mistake as Pat Buchanan was arguing back in 2002-03, many of the issues raised by Pat Buchanan 25 years ago are now resonating with the American public after being uttered by Donald Trump. The one exception made by Trump for Israel is why Trump may make it to the White House, whereas Pat Buchanan never stood a chance. In politics, timing is everything—and $10 billion (even if it’s “only” $4 billion) doesn’t hurt.
I believe Trump needs a little Ronald Reagan discipline: select 3 or 4 big themes and hone in on them. He has one already, and that is the immigration issue. He hit a home run with the detailed 6-page proposal. Now he needs to do the same thing with a few other issues. He laid the foundation for a second when he attacked “political correctness” at the debate. It wouldn’t take much effort to connect that theme with the antics of Black Lives Matter, which is total nonsense. Trump could score big time (and sow discord among the Dems) by saying he agrees with O’Malley’s first response: “all lives matter.” That resonates with Martin Luther King’s message, puts Trump on a higher plane and creates big time problems for Ms. Hillary. The third issue should be a call for reforming and simplifying the tax code. The fourth would be based on his clear statement that the Iraq War was a big mistake, combined with his criticism last night of our having 25,000+ on the front lines in Korea and possibly other criticisms. Since he has already declared his deep and abiding love for Israel, he probably has a lot of flexibility in this area. As far as the Iran deal goes, that issue may soon be dead when Congress votes not to reject the deal. This could be like the Panama Canal treaty was for Reagan. By the time he became President, no one heard a word about this issue, which had helped propel Reagan in 1976. I hope Trump has enough sense to treat Iran the same way Reagan treated the Panama Canal treaty in 1980.
I don’t give a flying F which wing of the Universal Zionist Party nominates whom for Chief Puppet. Understand this, White People: you are not going to vote your way out of the immigration + collapsing birthrate demographic-then-physical extinction that organized Jewry has – a la Sontag/Ignatiev/Wise et al. – planned for you. The Jews do not intend to be pogrom’d, or ghetto’d, or holocaust’d. Ever. Again. So you WILL (real #’s, not .gov #’s) be a minority in America by the mid-2020’s; you WILL be Palestine’d by 2050; you WILL BE GONE by 2090. Unless, that is, you go to the lead ballot first
Webb? That the guy claims he’s a democrat is crazy to me; he seems way too moderate for them to take notice and thus have any traction.
Just as there are many Republicans and Democrats who do not understand the source of Donald Trump’s appeal, I think there are a lot of men (myself included) who do not really understand the source of Hillary Clinton’s appeal among women. I think it goes very deep; it comes from the same place that women’s victim card comes from. When women get like this, they expect men to fix it. I think that if Hillary does not become the Democratic nominee, a lot of women will stay home, or not vote out of pique.
Democrats have a deep psychology problem, not a political problem, if Hillary is forced to drop out, regardless of the reason.
THIS SCANDAL WILL DOOM TEH EVUL CLINTONZ ONCE AND FOR ALL BWA HA HA!!!
Just like the “bimbo eruptions”.
Just like Whitewater.
Just like the “murder” of Vince Foster.
Just like the Great Fellatio Prevarication Impeachment.
Just like Benghaaaaaziii! ™.
Seriously, maybe you Wile E. Conservatives should quit buying your scandals from ACME Corporation. You can’t ever seem to nail Bill and Hillary Roadrunner.
On second thought, please don’t ever change. Your repeated journeys to the canyon floor never fail to amuse me. xD
Shrillary Clinton is playing the feminist victim card to gather the female votes which are the largest faction of diversity, a national victim cult scheme.
The democrats represent reformed Judaism, and Shrillary is fully on board with the Jewish national victim cult scheme.
The Republicans represent conservative Judaism, and Trump appears to be on board with the Israeli national victim cult scheme.
In the long run, the democrats will win because the demographics of the US is shifting greatly to victim class cultists being over 95% of voters.
Today, victim cultists comprise over 85% of the voting populace in the US and Israel.
With amnesty and citizenship offered to illegal aliens, all of which are diversity victim class people, the dominance of the Jewish diversity scheme is completed in the US.
The diversity victim cultist numbers are growing:
Jews – 2%-5%
women – 51% – 52%
afros – 15% -16%
queers – 2% -10%
disabled- 10% – 15%
veterans – 10% – 20%
Muslims – 5% – 8%
Latinos – 5% – 12%
Asians – 7% – 15%
Native American – 6% – 6%
If enough of the people who consider The Donald a hero realize he’s crazy, they may take a Dem ballot and vote for Webb in the primaries. He’d have a good chance to take Southern, Border, Great Plains, and Mountain states, plus IA and NH. With the remainder of the delegates split between Hillary and Bernie, there might be a real Revolution.
