Friday evening’s Donald Trump rally in Chicago was broken up by a foul-mouthed mob that infiltrated the hall and forced the cancelation of the event to prevent violence and bloodshed.

Brownshirt tactics worked. The mob, triumphant, rejoiced.

And the reaction of Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and John Kasich?

All three Republican rivals blamed — Donald Trump.

With his “dangerous style of leadership,” Trump stokes this anger, mewed Rubio, “This is what happens when a leading presidential candidate goes around feeding into a narrative of bitterness and anger and frustration.”

Rubio implies that if Trump doesn’t tone down his remarks to pacify the rabble, he will be responsible for the violence visited upon him.

Kasich echoed Rubio: “Donald Trump has created a toxic environment (that) has allowed his supporters and those who sometimes seek confrontation to come together in violence.”

But were the thousands of Trump supporters who came out to cheer him that night really looking for a fight? Or were they exercising their right of peaceful assembly?

Cruz charged Trump with “creating an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discord,” thus offering absolution to the mob.

Friday night cried out for moral clarity. What we got from Trump’s rivals was moral mush that called to mind JFK’s favorite quote from Dante: The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in time of moral crisis maintain their neutrality.

As news outlets have reported, Friday’s disruption at the University of Illinois-Chicago auditorium was a preplanned assault.

Behind it were the George Soros-funded MoveOn.org, Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, Hispanics hoisting Mexican flags and cop-haters carrying filthy signs to show their contempt for police.

People for Bernie, a pro-Sanders outfit, tweeted, “[This] wasn’t just luck. It took organizers from dozens of organizations and thousands of people to pull off. Great work.”

Now, Sanders did not order this assault on the civil rights of Trump supporters. But MoveOn.org has endorsed him and “Bernie” signs and T-shirts were everywhere among the disrupters. Hence, he has a duty to disavow this conduct and those who engaged in it.

If Sanders refuses, he condones it, and is morally complicit.

Can one imagine how the media would pile on Trump if working-class white males in Trump T-shirts invaded a Hillary Clinton rally and shut it down?

Can one imagine how the networks and cable TV channels that host town halls with the candidates would react if hell-raisers snuck into their audiences and shouted obscenities during discussions?

The keening over the First Amendment would not cease for weeks.

Some of us have been here before, and know how this ends.

When the urban riots broke out in the ’60s, Hubert Humphrey declared that, if he lived in a ghetto, “I could lead a pretty good riot myself.”

At his 1968 convention in Chicago, radicals baited and provoked the cops in the front of the Conrad Hilton, and as this writer watched, their patience exhausted after days of abuse, Chicago’s finest tore into the mob and delivered some street justice.

“Richard Nixon,” wrote Hunter S. Thompson, “is living in the White House today because of what happened that night in Chicago.”

Hunter got that one right.

That fall, Humphrey was daily assailed by the kinds of haters now disrupting Trump rallies. Everywhere he went, they chanted, “Dump the Hump!” At times, Humphrey came close to tears.

That fall, Humphrey realized the monster he helped nurture.

My tormentors, he said, are “not just hecklers, but highly disciplined, well-organized agitators … some of them are anarchists, and some of these groups are destroying the Democratic Party and destroying this country.”

In 1970, when President Nixon sent U.S. troops into Cambodia to clean out Viet Cong sanctuaries, and students rioted, Ronald Reagan called them “cowardly fascists,” and declared, “If there’s going to be a bloodbath, let it begin here.”

Not much Cruz-Rubio-Kasich equivocating there.

When radicals stomped down Wall Street desecrating Old Glory, construction workers came down from the building sites they were working and whaled on them.

Union president Peter J. Brennan was soon in the Oval Office — and in Nixon’s Cabinet. “Secretary Bunker,” we called him.

Prediction. Given their “victory” in Chicago, MoveOn.org and its allied nasties will try to replicate it, again and again. And as Americans came to despise the ’60s radicals, they will come to despise them.

And, as in the 1960s, the country will take a turn — to the right.

ORDER IT NOW

America has changed from the land we grew up in. But she is not yet ready to allow ugly mobs screaming obscenities at Trump and his folks inside and outside that hall in Chicago, or their paragons like socialist senator Bernie Sanders, to take over the country.

Those raising hell in the street in Chicago and that convention hall are unfit to be citizens of this democratic republic.

For as Edmund Burke reminded us, “Men of intemperate minds can never be free. Their passions forge their fetters.”

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of the new book “The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose From Defeat to Create the New Majority.”

  1. With Trump in the race its easy to see that Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and John Kasich are scum. So easy that even a working class knuckle dragger can see it. But thanks anyway Pat. As to the people who stunk up the rally, the ones not being paid were being used. I can’t see how it won’t get bloody before its over. And stay bloody after its over if the party successfully overrides the voters.

Just as I thought Ben Shapiro, while putting most of the blame on the protesters, also blamed Trump. However just a few weeks ago they did the same thing to his speech at CSULA and he didn’t seem to think he was to blame then.

Mark Levin barely mentioned the incident while crying about “real conservatives” i.e – smaller government (lower taxes and regulations), the Constitution, and “free market capitalism” while still supporting Cruz. I guess the first Amendment no longer applies once Cruz stomps on it.

What was even funnier was his drivel about how we have come from the party of Reagan to this due to wanting to end free trade. I guess every cock-up Reagan was behind we are supposed to continue forever because he was infallible? Yet Levin doesn’t apply that logic to amnesty for illegals.

These “consistent” conservatives are so full of themselves they can’t even see when they are full of it.

  3. My understanding is that this was done to benefit Hillary. Whatever the case, the reaction from the three stooges on the R side is absolutely pathetic, as well as outrageous in its cowardly, pandering, tacit endorsement of the mob which deprived other citizens of their constitutional rights. There’s going to be violence here eventually and that’s EXACTLY what Soros and his sad sack of useful idiots want. The entire establishment wants to kill the Trump campaign, I and many others think he might be actually killed. Ry Dawson has an interview up on YouTube talking with a girl who was at a Trump rally that was disturbed to some degree, not Chicago, but her description of the protesters’ behavior was appalling. CNN was there and their reporting on it was equally appalling. But since Trump = Hitler, any attack on him, his supporters, and rallies are justified now matter how absolutely ANTI-American those attacks are. I’m disgusted by the whole thing, and I’m not too hot on Trump’s reaction, either. Playing right into it. And I’m not a huge Trump fan, but seeing how every powerful faction in this country is so desperate to prevent his election it seems like our only hope to throw a monkey wrench in the plans of the neocons and central banks and defense contractors for more disastrous wars (on Israel’s behalf), and God knows what other interventions and coups they have cooking up. Plus the trio of trade deals could be at risk and their confrontational stance with Russia taken down a notch or two. Any other candidate is just more of the same, with Hillary being an absolutely terrifying prospect in all regards. Talk about Hitler, she’s the closest thing to that overused slur. Ugh. What had been entertaining is now getting very, very ugly.

Spot on, Pat. When you have groups like that trying to shut off debate, there is no doubt who is emulating Hitler’s Brownshirts in the 20’s and acting like fascists, and it certainly isn’t Trump. I also agree that Rubio, Kasich and Cruz have demonstrated they are unfit to be President (as if we needed another reminder) by their despicable actions. They seem to forget that this is not the first time this has happened and Trump is just the latest target of these incidents, which are aimed at undermining the most basic right we have had in this country, the First Amendment right to free speech.

BTW here is something I posted on unz.com last August in response to the Jorge Ramos incident at a Trump press conference:

” “Trump Fires Warning Shot Across Bow of BlackLivesMatter Motormouths”

I have been urging Republicans ever since the Bernie Sanders Seattle incident to make hay of the Black Lives Matter “movement.” As you note, Trump is strong on tactics, in contrast to Reagan who was more of a strategist. This latest brouhaha with Jorge Ramos was a brilliant way to send a message to the BLM crowd. Hats off to Mr. Trump. Probably a lot better way than anything I would have come up with.

My intellectual side would still prefer that he make a formal connection between his “anti Political Correctness” rhetoric, the Black Lives Matter movement and the suppression of free speech that the movement (and all “Political Correctness”) represents. (The black shirts that the BLM women wear are suggestive of the Brown Shirts worn by Hitler’s supporters back in the 20′s and 30′s, which movement also tried to suppress free speech, btw. According to Wikipedia: ” Their primary purposes were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies, disrupting the meetings of opposing parties, fighting against the paramilitary units of the opposing parties, especially the Red Front Fighters League of the German Communist Party (KPD), and intimidating Slavic and Romani citizens, unionists, and Jews – for instance, during the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses.” Interestingly enough, Hitler was smart enough to recognize the danger they posed to his regime after using them to gain power and dissolved them in 1934.) If there is any doubt, look at what they succeeded in doing to poor Bernie Sanders at his own rally.”

I find it highly ironic that back in August the George Soros funded BLM succeeded in shutting down a Bernie Sanders’ rally, which Trump and I found to be an appalling act (even though I am not a Bernie Sanders’ fan by any means), and now the same George Soros funded goons (ostensibly Bernie Sanders supporters and MoveOn.org) are trying to pull the same stunt with Trump. I find Soros’ role in this anti-American activity highly disturbing especially considering his experience with the Nazis in his native Hungary. You would think that someone who survived the Nazi experience in Europe would be the last guy to finance such Brown Shirt activity in his adopted country.

Hillary Clinton can most definitely win on Nov 8 2016. And if she does, it will be because of the nonwhite demographic tsunami that was set into motion by the passage of the 1965 Immigration Reform Act.

Trump is too little too late for his Native Born White American Male supporters as far as a electoral solution to the open declaration of a race war that has been declared against them by the nonwhite Democratic Party voting bloc goes. NYC Mayor Wilhelm Deblasio made an open declaration of a race against Donald Trump’s White Male supporters just yesterday. Go Google it….

So what is Game-Plan-B-post-Trump-politics?-which is coming real soon! Nobody likes to talk about this…but post-Trump politics is coming real soon. A lot of White Guys are very scared to talk about this. It doesn’t even make a difference if Donad Trump wins.

If Trump and his White Male supporters attempt to demonstrate to the Democratic Party Voting Bloc and Hillary’s Cabal that they are not racist…they will loose. For the Democratic Party Voting Bloc is highly racialized and “debates” in bad faith…and…they want Native Born White American Males dead. Just stating the obvious.

The problem is that these protestors have contributed nothing “to the building of the world” either because they are young students who haven’t been around long enough to have “set one’s stone” or they are black, uneducable and untrainable for useful employment or they are single women who are resentful because they lost in the genetic lottery and are destined to be spinsters. So, lacking the sense of benediction that comes with contributing to the building of the world and baffled by its complexity, they throw a tantrum and wreck it.

They have no blueprint for a new world in which they would have a meaningful role, not having thought that far in advance. Neither are they allowed a glimpse of a meaningful future by their leaders and enablers; they are, after all, merely shock troops and as such, expendable.

In Germany in the 20’s Communists (same as today’s Soroists, tbraton) were the infiltrators and provocateurs — the “foul-mouthed mob.” Mob violence and street riots were rife in the Weimar era; Stalin’s Bolsheviks were determined to turn Germany to Communism. German people with the still-armed de-mobilized German military fought back, in the streets and on both sides.

When Hitler and the NSDAP took power, the rioting was quelled by the Brown shirts.

  9. Once again, the scum rejoices in kicking middle-class white people (guys).

Funny thing is, the only reason they get away with it is that the people they’re kicking have something to lose (and thus control their impulses.)

Wait until this 40-50 year asset mania funded by monetary debasement finally rolls over, and lots of those (formerly middle-class) white guys suddenly are in a blind rage, with nothing left to lose.

In the meantime, they will console themselves by figuratively slashing the Leftist/Soros/BLM/race-baiter tires by going to the polls and voting for Trump. Win, lose or draw, this is a time of trend change.

If it’s not Trump (either because he does not win the election or because he wins but turns out to be just a paper tiger), it will be someone else.

The SCUM (and the UIC protesters are scum to me) are largely those riding in the cart, a cart they hitched to (largely) middle-class white guys who are paying most of the taxes. The scum thinks it can insult, whip and place a growing burden on those white guys and there will be no consequences.

Note to SCUM: You need us. We don’t need you. Your antics only work because we allow it. The moment we decide to stop tolerating you, you’re going to wish you’d have exhibited a little more foresight.

I agree. What the leftist fools don’t seem to understand is that their paradigm is past apogee.

They are busy lashing themselves to the Leftist boat, and that will prove in the fullness of time to be a Very Bad Idea.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drownings_at_Nantes

Those who support Trump are largely rule-following people with something to lose (of all races.) Those who oppose his campaign largely identify as Hard Leftists (crushing taxation, the Total State, witch-hunts for thoughtcrime, open-borders immivasion, trannies-in-the-girls-locker-room-insanity, etc.) and they don’t seem to understand that their antics last only as long as the rule-followers tolerate them.

The rule-followers are today still resisting the irrational urges driven by white-hot rage at the Hard Left. Those chains of self-control are strained to near-breaking.

You may be right, but no trend lasts forever.

600 straight years of left-turning Equalitarian cult won’t stop on a dime, but with the trannies-in-the-locker-room insanity, it’s primed for a reversal.

The last 40-50 years of “prosperity” were built entirely on an unprecedented credit bubble debasement of money. An ocean of IOU’s now represents vast wealth and that in turn supports the prices for stocks, real estate and commodities. It is the engine of complacency, and of white tolerance for the Equalitarian Cult’s endless leftism.

During that time, Uncle Sam warped every aspect of the US and world economies. Show me a job in the USA today that has nothing to do with Uncle Sam, either as regulator or, much more often, the customer (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid for medical services.)

Trees don’t grow to the sky. This two-generation-long venture into fantasy must eventually end. When it does, the people who today swallow their rage (at being endlessly named racists, homophobes, bigots and rapists) will suddenly have nothing left to lose. No job, no home, maybe no family. Just One Enemy (the Cult) and a whole lot of targets (the Cultists.)

When that day comes, prudent people will find a cave in which to hide. White males have the DNA of the Huns, Goths, Visigoths, and Vikings. Couple relatively high IQ with rage and take away restraint. It should terrify the thoughtful that Anders Breivik may be the harbinger.

That’s what is promised when this Greatest Credit Bubble Ever finally does burst, Trump or no Trump. The future is always a product of the present. This present is filling a vast reservoir of RAGE, and I don’t refer to the BLM movement.

Many of them were veterans of the savage trenches and killing fields of Western Europe. If educated, they were self -educated in worker’s schools. Thanks for refining my point: the Brownshirts imposed order in a Germany that was beset by savage street-riots.

    Pat Buchanan got it backward.
    So did tbraton.

The bell rang and they salivated on cue: anything associated w/ NSDAP Germany has to be bad.

Deconditioning a world that has been brainwashed for 100 years by zionists is a tough slog, but someone’s gotta do it.

PS the other day someone linked to Pastor Chuck Baldwin http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/Articles/tabid/109/ID/3435/Political-Fascism-And-Religious-Fanaticism-The-Worst-Possible-Marriage.aspx

Baldwin got it both backward and inside out: he criticized the Bush family because they invested in Germany during the NSDAP era (and before), then said that this indicates that the Bush administration is a new version of the Third Reich.

    No, it doesn’t.
The Third Reich did not invest in USA, it was the other way around: USA companies, including Ford, Standard Oil and most of the US & Jewish banking families, sought to make money on Germany.
What Baldwin’s scenario proves is that the (then-current) Bush 43 administration is a continuation of and just as corrupt as the Roosevelt administration, which wanted and sought war for its economic benefits. The Germans did not want war, and Pastor Baldwin may have noticed that benefits did not accrue to Germany as a result of war.
The USA — and Jews — did seek war and did profit from war.

  36. At the end of the day, White Feminists and their White Knights are driving the bus over the cliff. Where are the racist accusations toward White Feminists? There are no women of color in the women’s movement. White Feminists have set the agenda, men vs men. Whites vs. Blacks, vs. Mexicans/Hispanics, all vying against one another for the resources already plucked by White, “educated” Feminists like Hillary, her daughter and all their Feminist ilk. They’ve set themselves up with White Privilege and affirmative action and as Queens that bear no inspection or criticism.

And now? They then set every other aspect of society against one another while they steal the crumbs of the remaining prosperity. The women’s movement in general and Feminism in particular was ALWAYS about setting White women at the top with the privilege formerly accorded via MERIT, to White men. They threw a few bones to Blacks, but mostly, the Blacks were used by White women to distract their own theft of privilege. Commercials, symbols of wealth, finance, cars, all focused toward WHITE women. The courts, domestic relations, education, hiring, all bent towards WHITE women. A creeping, sneaky taking of everything good and at the same time, installing degeneracy in the family and eliminating the churches as institutions of morality, a necessary thing for their cause. And look at the gender of feminist women at the grass roots. Pierced, tattooed, obese, profane, unfit for marriage or family, another possibility taken away from men.

High time someone took note that Hillary and all her Feminist ilk are the grandest racists and especially, sexists, of all. Hillary’s every stump speech promises grand rewards, jobs, education, “Especially For Women!” How much is enough? The answer is always, for White Feminist Women, “More!”. Always, always more. And her White Knight degenerate gender-traitor men that enable the theft, may they all burn in hell.

“The Third Reich did not invest in USA, it was the other way around: USA companies, including Ford, Standard Oil and most of the US & Jewish banking families, sought to make money on Germany.”

Actually, there was investment by Germany in America. The next largest stockholder in Standard Oil was I.G. Farben, the giant German chemical company. From its laboratories and factories, synthetics of oil, gasoline, rubber, nitrates, and fibers were created, as well as vaccines and drugs like Atabrine and Novocain.

“What Baldwin’s scenario proves is that the (then-current) Bush 43 administration is a continuation of and just as corrupt as the Roosevelt administration, which wanted and sought war for its economic benefits.”

Not quite. Dozens of American companies had wisely invested in Germany in the 1920’s in hopes of stimulating their war-torn economy. When Hitler rose to power in the early 1930’s, and the war machine was humming, German subsidiaries of American companies were making profits hand over fist. It’s easy to say now that United States corporations ought to have pulled out of Germany during their land grab in Europe. However, at that juncture, it was capitalism in action, which does not require a moral compass. Profitability is the desired direction.

“The Germans did not want war…”

    I know. I’m sorry. Math is hard…..

Use total credit market growth as your inflation metric and then recalculate GDP growth using this deflator. What you’ll find is that GDP in this inflation-adjusted world is the same as it was in the mid-1960’s or early 1970’s. I’m not going to waste my time doing it for you, but it’s not too difficult.

If you don’t understand this, then I hope you’re not a CPA. A business that has COGS of $100,000 and borrows $100,000 to obtain sales of $100,000 didn’t have a net profit of $100,000. If you don’t back borrowing entirely out of your “product” calculations it is utterly fictitious. It doesn’t matter how many economists you can delude into believing otherwise.

As to talking tough, you just don’t get it. And I don’t care. Either you’re a fag, or a dyke, or some sort of Eurotrash. I doubt you would know how to act on a gun range, and I doubt you know one end of a firearm from another. You thus assume everyone else is like that…hence your “or so I’ve been told.”

I don’t know why anyone would be hoping for ethnic strife/escalation – when we are seeing the fruits of it broadcast from Syria and Iraq.

    Talha, the die is cast.

Who will be producing most of the actual wealth in coming decades? Mechanical engineers. Electrical engineers. Computer scientists. Materials scientists. Occupations like that.

Robotics are eliminating manual job after manual job.

Who is going to fill those productive occupations? White males. Sorry, it’s true and no amount of whining and hand-wringing will change it.

So who is left? Endless whining people who covet the fruits of conditions they cannot have. No amount of wishful thinking will turn people with sub-110 IQ’s into productive, able engineers and computer scientists. No amount of wishful thinking will alter this any more than if society decided that the future belonged to NBA starting guards and a National Effort was placed behind readying millions of short Mestizos and white-guys-who-can’t-jump for tryouts.

    It. Ain’t. Gonna. Happen.

So those endless, whining, covetous people will continue to rationalize heaping scorn on white males, the very group from which tomorrow’s highly productive people are drawn.

So the war is already in place. Today it’s (mostly) rhetorical, but the truth is a full-out inversion of the dominant Narrative.

All we hear about is how downtrodden are blacks, browns, women, etc., but all we see is vitriol heaped upon white males. If you replace white male with “black,” or “women,” and re-read what people write, they’d be hounded from society for their viciousness.

But all is okay if it’s YT, particularly XYT, who is being dumped on.

Peace was yesterday. The future is the English Civil War, phase 2.

  42. Talha says:

Who is going to fill those productive occupations?

Or Pakistani guys like me – 😉

Look bro, I get it, I like white people (all people actually) – I’m married to a white lady – Scandinavian stock. We are all beneficiaries of the scientific progress that has been done, yes by (mostly) white people. I am also benefiting from the political rights that whites (mostly Anglo-Saxon) secured from their own rulers through blood and steal and fire. And I get that you’re chafing at being the butt end of jokes all the time. I totally agree with you, it is not right that people can say whatever they want about whites and whites can’t say anything back. I’m all for freedom of association; if you want to have a “White Society Club” on campus or whatever, it’s totally fine with me. For me the solution is not to introduce the social acceptability of whites to denigrate others in public, but rather to have everyone else put themselves in the other shoes and knock off piling on the white folks.

I’m not white, but, as I’ve said before, if I was I would frankly be offended at a term that lumps together such beautifully various cultures and histories like those of the Scots and Albanians and Swedes and Chechens and Spaniards and…and…

But you’re not going to make any friends by sounding enthusiastic about a possible coming race war; those are not jokes. They are one of the most brutal conflicts that human beings commit and the end is not determinate. In WW2 the Germans started out thinking they could take on much of Europe and sent in over 40 mechanized divisions into Russia while occupying countries on a completely separate front. It ended with their cities burned to the ground and their women raped in the streets of Berlin while they had to watch. See what is happening in South Sudan right now, you have militias forcing people to feed off the bodies of their dead relatives. When you call to the primal DNA of the Visigoths, Varangians, etc. you’re calling others to tap into their primal DNA – you think those people weren’t bad-***es in their time and regions. But unfortunately, being a bad-*** back then meant burning down a village and raping the women while their bodies were still warm. Pray that our eyes and those of our children see the dust of their graves before they witness such things.

I don’t scorn you bro – it is against my theology. I have seen white men, converts, whose piety would put to shame legions of those born into my faith…

“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.” – Prophet Muhammad’s last sermon

I remember hearing the speeches of Malcolm X (may God grant him a high status) – near the end of his life – and how he encouraged Black folks to stop dwelling on Whites and blaming them for their problems or even look to them for solutions, but rather to lift themselves up and create the solutions themselves. That goes ditto for everyone…

In peace, may God preserve you and your progeny with honor.

Maths may or may not be hard for some people, but it appears logic [especially economic] is taking a lashing .

First, why in the name of heavens would one use credit growth as the deflator? GDP by accounting definition, is the total value of all goods and services, so one should use a broad measure of price activity to deflate, not “credit growth” which is a bizarre suggestion. Why not then, e.g., use the price growth of computer memory prices from 1957 as the deflator? It will turn your argument on its head!

No, he is patently correct. Neither Hitler, nor the German people, wanted war.

No leader during the 1930’s made more offers for disarmament than Hitler. France rejected every single one of them; the only one which was accepted was the Anglo-German Naval agreement, which provided the Royal Navy a 3:1 advantage in warship tonnage over the Kriegsmarine; the agreement was abrogated by the British offer of military alliance with Poland (which they knew they could not honor).

As far as Poland is concerned, Hitler signed a non-aggression treaty with Poland (then under Marshal Pilsudski) in 1934. Hitler’s initial position on the Danzig question was more conciliatory than his Weimar predecessors. His very generous offer to allow Poland to retain sovereignty over West Prussia (save for the transportation corridor to Danzig and East Prussia) was an extremely generous and audacious one, which none of his predecessors would dared to make, since it would have been political suicide for them to do so.

Poland’s “Regime of Colonels” (Pilsudski was dead by then) not only rebuffed every single one of these offers, but began a series of provocations against the German minority in Poland, which included continuous harassment and in many cases, murder by roving mobs of Polish chauvinists. German civilian Lufthansa aircraft flying to and from East Prussia were fired on by Polish flak units. The Polish General Staff drew up plans for a war against Germany – Operation West – before Hitler had his own generals prepare Fall Weiss.

By declaring war upon Germany on September 3, 1939, Britain and France effectively turned a German-Polish territorial war into the next Great War. The diplomatic run up to the war is ironclad in its vindication of German innocence in starting the war. Those who wanted war: the British “war party” led by Churchill; FDR, and his roving ambassador to Europe, William Bullit, and elements of international organized Jewry.

“No, he is patently correct. Neither Hitler, nor the German people, wanted war.”

Considering the devastating impact of the Versailles Treaty on Germany, there was a wellspring of animosity toward Great Britain and France. Hitler played up to the crowd with his rhetoric of disarmament. He knew full well that calls to limit weapons in Europe would fall on deaf ears, considering Germany’s own weak position in the early 1930’s. In this manner, he could tell German citizens how he sought peace, his fellow European compatriots rejected the overture, and therefore compel the nation to rebuild its own armed forces in the name of protecting Germany. It was a brilliant strategy.

“His very generous offer to allow Poland to retain sovereignty over West Prussia (save for the transportation corridor to Danzig and East Prussia) was an extremely generous and audacious one, which none of his predecessors would dared to make, since it would have been political suicide for them to do so.”

Hitler made a calculated move to buy time for this plan for a greater Germany, understanding this offer, too would be rejected.

Hitler never made any attempts to obfuscate the fact that his grand design was a greater Germany or that he would undo the Versailles regime. The treaties of Versailles, St. Germain, and Trianon were Carthaginian impositions upon the defeated Central Powers, and their manifest injustice and their slicing up of Germany was bound to lead to conflict as many prominent statesmen, such as Lloyd George, admitted. Hitler’s goal was to undo the territorial provisions of the treaties . But it was also his goal to do this via diplomacy, not through wars of aggression. The occupation of the Rhineland was simply reclaiming German territory.

Hitler’s disarmament proposals were sincere. He honored the Anglo-German Naval Agreement and the non-aggression pact with Poland until 1939, when the British made the offer of military alliance with Poland, and the Poles accepted thereby abrogating both. Of course Germany had to rearm. The Versailles regime forced it into limiting its army to 100,000 troops, and forbade any artillery or heavy weaponry. France, Great Britain, Poland and Czechoslovakia (an artificial state) had an enormous numerical advantage over Germany in troops, heavy weapons, warships, warplanes, tanks, etc. The nature of Germany’s rearmament was as a defensive one, not for a worldwide war of conquest. The Kriegsmarine was diminutive, if extremely skillful. The Luftwaffe had no heavy bombers; its mission was to provide close in support to combat operations on the ground and sea, not for massive area bombing raids. Of course, circumstances – such as the Polish provocations and the British (and FDR’s) manipulation of the situation – would change that.

The fact that Hitler gave the Poles one last chance to send a plenipotentiary to Berlin on August 31 to negotiate a settlement, or that Goering was making a frantic effort by using his friend, the Swede Berger Dalerus, as a mediator in those last few days, demonstrates that Hitler’s actions were not those of a tyrant bent on unleashing war, but a desperate, yet (up to then) successful diplomatic gambler.

“Hitler never made any attempts to obfuscate the fact that his grand design was a greater Germany or that he would undo the Versailles regime.”

Exactly. His measures undertaken to promote disarmanent at a time when Germany lacked a strong military was from a position of weakness in the eyes of Great Britain and France. Little did they know his intentions would actually strengthen the resolve of the Germanic peoples. Hitler’s ploy worked to perfection.

“The treaties of Versailles, St. Germain, and Trianon were Carthaginian impositions upon the defeated Central Powers…”

To the victors go the spoils. Tis true that the causes of the Great War rested upon several interrelated factors, with its participants sharing blame.

”The occupation of the Rhineland was simply reclaiming German territory.”

In violation of a treaty. Hitler was testing whether or not France had the gumption to enforce it. Emboldened by France’s impotent “stern warning”, Hitler planned his next move.

    “Hitler’s disarmament proposals were sincere.”

Hardly. On the surface it would appear that Hitler sought peace on the European continent. However, he completely understood that his proposals would not be embraced by his enemies. Hitler would use their refusal as leverage with his own people–”See, I offered peace, and they rejected it. We must rearm. We must exact revenge.”

“demonstrates that Hitler’s actions were not those of a tyrant bent on unleashing war, but a desperate, yet (up to then) successful diplomatic gambler.”

You are failing to recognize Hitler’s underlying intentions. He gambling all right–he bet on the fact the German people would buy into the tenets of Mein Kempf. We all know how that turned out to be.

Well, I was under the impression that the Brownshirts or S.A. or Gymnastic and Sports Division, the private army of the Nazi Party, was formed in August 1921. Now I realize that there were various Communist inspired revolts that occurred in Germany (Munich and Berlin come to mind)and other parts of Europe (Hungary) after the end of WWI in November 1918, but they were all short-lived, lasting a few months at most, before they were suppressed by governmental authority using the army bolstered by the militias which were rampant in Germany at the time. The loss of life was measured in the low thousands, mostly comprised of the communist insurgents themselves. I am not clear where you get that “slaughter of tens of millions in Eastern Europe.” Are you confusing historical periods by any chance?
