The Democrats who were looking to cast Robert Mueller as the star in a TV special, “The Impeachment of Donald Trump,” can probably tear up the script. They’re gonna be needing a new one.
For six hours Wednesday, as three cable news networks and ABC, CBS and NBC all carried live the hearings of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, the Mueller report was thoroughly trashed.
The special counsel stood by his findings. His investigation was not a “hoax” or “witch hunt,” he said. He admitted that he had found no Trump-Russia conspiracy. He denied he exonerated Trump of obstruction of justice.
All this we knew, and all of it we have heard for months.
What was new, what was dramatic, what was compelling was how the House Republicans arrived with their war paint on and ripped Mueller and his investigation to such shreds that viewers were feeling sorry for the special counsel at the end of his six hours of grilling.
The Republicans exposed him as only vaguely conversant with his own report. They revealed that he had probably not written his own statement challenging the depiction of his findings by Attorney General Bill Barr.
Mueller’s staff of lawyers, Republicans showed, reads like a donors list for Hillary Clinton. The FBI contingent that started the investigation was a cabal so hateful of Trump that some had to be fired.
Republicans raised questions about the origins of the investigation, tracing it back to early 2016 when Maltese intelligence agent Joseph Mifsud leaked to a staffer of the Trump campaign, George Papadopoulos, that Russia had Clinton’s emails. That and subsequent meetings have all the marks of an intel agency set-up.
Repeatedly, Republicans brought up the dossier written by British spy Christopher Steele, who fed Russian-sourced disinformation to Clinton campaign-financed intel firm, Fusion GPS, who passed it on to the FBI, which used it as evidence to justify warrants to spy on Trump’s campaign.
To many in the TV audience, this was fresh and startling stuff.
Yet Mueller’s response to all such allegations was that they were outside his purview and that other agencies were looking into them.
Wednesday’s hearings often proved painful to watch.
Mueller, a 74-year-old decorated Marine veteran of Vietnam and a former director of the FBI, sat mumbling his dissents as one charge after another was fired at him, his associates and his investigation.
For this disaster, the Democrats are alone to blame.
Mueller had wanted to file his report and leave it to the attorney general and Congress to act, or not act, on its contents. His job was done, and he did not want to testify publicly.
Democrats, desperate for impeachment hearings, wanted him to recite for the TV cameras every charge against the president.
What Democrats hoped would be a recital of Trump’s sins, Republicans turned into an adversarial proceeding that ended Mueller’s public career in a humiliating spectacle lasting a full day.
Where do Democrats go from here?
Their goal from the outset has been to persuade the nation that Trump colluded with Putin’s Russia to steal the 2016 election, and that the progressives are the true patriots in seeking to impeach and remove an illegitimate president and prosecute him for acts of treason.
The Republican position is that, for all his flaws and failings, Trump won the 2016 election fairly and squarely. He is our president, and the drive to impeach and remove him is an attempted constitutional coup d’etat by a “deep state” terrified that it cannot win against him in 2020.
The rival narratives are irreconcilable.
The Republican message of Wednesday: Proceed with hearings to impeach and there will be blood on the floor.
Democrats are in a hellish bind.
Should they proceed with hearings on impeachment, they will divide their party, force their presidential candidates to cease talking health care and start talking impeachment, and probably fail.
Impeachment hearings would fire up the Republican base and energize the GOP minority to prepare for combat in a Judiciary Committee where they are already celebrating having eviscerated the prosecution’s star witness.
If Democrats vote impeachment in committee, they will have to take it to the House floor, where their moderates, who won in swing districts, will be forced to vote on it, splitting their own bases in the run-up to the 2020 election.
If Democrats lose the impeachment vote on the House floor, it would be a huge setback. But if they vote impeachment in the House, the trial takes place in a Senate run by Mitch McConnell.
Trump would go into the 2020 battle against a Democratic Party that failed to overthrow the president in a radical coup that it attempted because it was afraid to fight it out with the president in a free and fair election.

Notice how Mr. Buchanan tries to paint Mr. Mueller, “a 74-year-old decorated Marine veteran of Vietnam and a former director of the FBI,” as a sympathetic victim of the Democrats.
And notice how both the hearings and this column sqandered the opportunity to at least question the bipartisan fairy tale of”Russian hacking.”
Gutless. Because they are all playing their parts in the Red v Blue puppet show.
Impeaching Trump for the Russia-gate hoax would be the last nail in the coffin of the so-called U.S. Constitution. If Americans want to impeach Trump, he should be impeached for being a warmongering buffoon who kow-tow’s to his Israeli masters – a classic stupid traitor to the nation.
Mueller was exposed as the stammering old geezer whose sole purpose was only to put a white goy face and veneer of respectability on an otherwise Jewish plot to impeach the president who’s an honorary Jew himself given his actions since taking office.
Where do the Dems go from here? Where they always go. They will quadruple down on identity politics and anti-white hate and claiming that Trump is a white nationalist sympathizer and Putin pawn.
The (((radical left))) has never let facts get in there way, so they certainly won’t start now.
I thought Mueller played his part as doddering senile old fool quite well.
It’s difficult to know where and how far the Democrats’ mania to ‘get Trump’ will go from here. And to many of them I suspect it’s far from being a ‘puppet show’ despite all objective conclusions to the contrary. They are (mostly) all profound believers in a ‘massive Russian conspiracy’ to successfully distort the 2016 election, which is the only takeaway they got Mueller to enthusiastically admit to yesterday. As you correctly observed, the fact that there has never been any evidence to support that extremely shocking assertion, and the fact that the Republicans never went there yesterday (other than to wave the Fusion GPS truth bomb around lackadaisically) is almost as good as the evidence gets that both parties are in on the production of divisive ‘bread and circuses’ the American serfs love to chew on. Still, I believe the Democrats largely believe their own fabrications (which bodes ill for them next year). Nuts, ain’t it?
I’m rather sick of Mueller the ‘honorable Vietnam War Vet. A man might have been honorable 50 years ago but if he spends the next 50 years as a corrupt official in an corrupt agency whatever patina of honor he had has long since worn off.
If Mueller was ever a Republican he belonged to the McCain wing of the party and if he was a honest man he would not have presided over the travesty of an investigation that bears his name.
Warmongering buffoon? Which war has he started?
If you’re going to start talking the Jew, then you would be remiss to avoid mentioning the most famous Jew of all time, who stated “Salvation is from the Jews.” (((John 4:22))) Being “grafted” into the fabled Jewtree (((Romans 11:24))) makes all believers “honorary Jews.” But the (((Jew-worshiping right))) has never let facts get in there way, either.
These are the people that are running our country! God help us all.
And Mr. Buchanan knows it’s nuts, too, but he still traffics in the “Russia hacked our [sacrosanct] election” lie.
Does he have a cousin whose granddaughter wants an internship at the Heritage Foundation?
IMHO, there isn’t one democrat in twenty who is dismayed by Mueller’s disastrous appearance before Congress. Their belief in Donald Trump’s incompetence and their hatred of him personally isn’t affected by facts, because it’s emotional. Mueller’s failure is a non-issue. Wait a few days, you’ll see.
Democrats live in a carefully constructed bubble and that’s exactly how they like it. Nothing positive about the President ever enters it. When they do exit polls after the 2020 election, Democratic voters will say all the same things they’ve believed since Mr. Trump announced his candidacy and then won the election. He’s a boor, he hates women, he’s a homophobe, he’s a racist, he’s a financial failure, he colluded with Russia, all of it.
Trump impeachment will be an exciting prospect for Democrats right up to the 2020 election, and if Mr. Trump is re-elected, Democrats will continue to hope for impeachment right up to that day in January, 2025, when the President steps down.
And then, of course, Democrats will get to see whether or not Mr. Trump will be made to face justice for his many crimes, no longer protected by his high office.
The GOP failed to ask any real questions…..about the DNC server…..Seth Rich…..Julian Assange….
the role of the magic negro……etc.
Kabuki theater.
No accountability.
The moronic lying hateful Dems will continue as if yesterday never happened.
Swallwell said the investigation must continue.
They are quite insane.
I hope you’re being sarcastic there — at least in so much as you think any crimes have been proven about the president.
I hated Obama, but not once did I ever see evidence during his time in office of crimes by him. There is, now, some evidence — he deliberately allowed Hillary to steal and destroy top secret documents to cover up her bribery, because he knew about her separate server and did nothing to stop it, and even communicated to her on it via email. Being in charge of her, he at the very least aided and abetted her activities. But, unfortunately, these days few people would see it right to have him prosecuted for it.
Easy-peasy … declare Müller non compos mentis, and launch yet another investigation “to get to the hard truths” the feeble Müller investigation missed.
Robert Mueller is a man involved in multiple huge scandals over several decades – and was directly implicated in a new scandal, with Trump holding the cards
A few major Robert Mueller scandals going back the 1980s, in his continual role as Deep State cover-up man:
Mueller and Boston mobster & FBI tool Whitey Bulger, joining to convict men later proven innocent
Mueller and the cover-up of the Lockerbie airplane explosion scandal
Mueller and the cover-up of the BCCI bank collapse scandal
Mueller and the cover-up of the 9-11 scandal
Mueller and the cover-up of the bribery of two US federal judges, with FBI head Mueller indulging law firms defrauding client funds, per a recent Justice Dept Inspector General filing hanging over Mueller’s head, also in the hands of Trump, who was boasting on Twitter about it
The ‘doddering old senile-tending man’ performance of Mueller, was the most clever way for him to depart public life –
Under an Israel-lobby-overseen possible ‘deal’, where Mueller didn’t make a strong move against Trump for some past Trump peccadillo … and in exchange, Trump’s AG wouldn’t go after Mueller for receiving funds from law firms whose crimes FBI head Mueller had indulged
Or his performance was a brilliant bit of stagecraft meant to dissociate the revered
Mr. Mueller from the authorship of the report bearing his name. Nobody watching the hearings would ever conclude he was capable of producing a document whose contents were so unfamiliar to him. In other words, his testimony could have been the Special Counsel saying “I’m not going to prison for Weissman and Rosenstein and that pack of Deep State a**holes, find yourself some other sap.”
“Russian-sourced”? When exactly was that ever established, Pat?
The Deep State doesn’t care about the unimportant internecine squabbles of the ‘two parties’ as long as their important issues are maintained. As a matter of fact it strengthens the false perception that there is a choice when voting.
Mueller is a stereotypical deep stater who has spent his entire life on the government payroll. His Marine Corp /FBI background makes him a true member of the MIC ( military industrial complex) which President Eisenhower warned us to avoid. That fact shows him to be a dishonorable evil person who who worships the demonic War Party. His ultimate aim was to trigger a huge war between Russia and the US , something Hilary and John McCain devoutly sought. People like Mueller and McCain spent their young lives planning and executing military actions that took the lives of tens of thousands of innocent people. Trump just missed a CIA coup led by the same people that ousted Richard Nixon from office in 1974. Nixon had won the 1972 presidential election by taking 49 of 50 states. The Washington Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein were CIA operatives as was their source of info the so called “deepnthroat”. They had no proof that Nixon had don or ordered anything and tonthis day very few know what “ the burglars” at Watergate were rally trying to steal. The only thing they held over Nixon is “obstruction of justice” , very vague all inclusive charge that could include not answering the inquisitors questions fast enough. The American deep state is extremely evil and totally in control of the media and both political parties. Robert Mueller is just another pension whore who would gladly Man the guardhouse at Auschwitz if the pay and pension were high enough.
In other words, principles are not within his purview.
Anyone care to rationalize Mr. Paleoconservative’s lame effort to give a pass to St. Mueller? It’s like what we used to see from the Archived sycophant Freedom Watcher.
I wasn’t about to waste a day of my life listening to such garbage, but I did get a pretty good sense of it when watching some clips, on Tucker’s show, of a few GOP reps. destroying the weirdly incoherent Mueller. I held back the natural urge to feel sorry for him. No one should. He didn’t have to take the job, with the intent of driving Trump from office, did he?
And, despite his desire to not testify, he had an obligation to do so. He did waste millions of dollars of taxpayer money, after all. His job was not done after his stupid report was filed, nor should it be done now. It won’t be until a journalist of great courage and stature (like the now silenced and suffering Julian Assange) gets to the bottom of this fraud on the American people. You can bet that Congress will be unable to do so.
Power-corrupted men of Mueller’s ilk, (I care not of his prior dubious accomplishments), have committed treasonous offenses against the Republic, for which they will never be punished.
PS1 – After watching the sad performance of an older man in the clutches of enveloping senility, I couldn’t help but think that that would be what we’d be in store for if Biden or Bernie are elected.
PS2 – If Nixon, the recent winner of 49 states, had had half the backbone of Mr. Trump, he would not have allowed himself to be driven so easily from office.
Most democrats still believe it was Russia that cost them the election, and not Hillary being herself . They didn’t lose squat at the hearings. Plus Mueller should be nominated for an Oscar.
Aggressive war against an inoffensive and blameless nation and people (Libya) is not a crime in your book?
Extorting billions of dollars of lucre from the American tax slave to lavish on an enemy regime; (Bibi’s Israel) is not a crime?
Fomenting a civil war in Syria, using head-slicing orcs from Libya and elsewhere, is not a crime?
Every single person murdered in Syria by Obama’s “moderate rebels”, is a crime of enormity and inequity and stain upon his execrable name and legacy.
Every Libyan murdered by American bombs and America’s intrigues to destabilize that otherwise prosperous nation, and send it reeling into the stone age, where rape and terror are common place, are all such crimes of gross and moral outrage as should shake us all to the very core.
Unless of course our ((media)) and corrupt politicians don’t care (or giggle and cackle) over such horrors, then why should the rest of us consider such things as “crimes”?
If Obama was complicit in waging even one aggressive war, then he and anyone else so guilty, deserves to dangle at the end of a rope.
Just like what was done to the Nazis for the exact same legal reasons.
The only reason people suggest such things are not even crimes anymore, is because our civilization and society simply have changed their narrative to suit the Jewish supremacists running the Western world (into the ignoble and depraved dirt).
please don’t forget, that as one of his ‘prior dubious accomplishments’, he did (as acting director of the FBI) preside over the FBI’s portion of the cover up of 9/11.
Just consider how it was the FBI that went around to every gas station and convenience store in the area surrounding the Pentagon and seized all their surveillance videos.
Why?
one wonders..
The Pentagon must be some of the most surveilled real estate on the planet, and yet there’s virtually zero video evidence of one of the most heinous and spectacular events to take place on American soil. As a ‘jumbo jet flew into it’ on that clear and infamous morning.
Where are all those (flight data) black boxes (two per plane), and why are they all being suppressed?
Lots of questions for Mueller that will never be asked by our cowardly and complicit politicians.
Get with it, man. Even Wikipedia says the Steele Dossier is “Russian-sourced.”
Not sure if you trust the Daily Caller but here’s one of many articles saying the same thing:
https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/16/steele-dossier-sources-state-department/
Where do the Democrats go?
Well they DOUBLE DOWN like there was anything else they could do.
Trump’s a racist, a tool of Putin, a threat to our democracy (notice, not Republic) and so forth.
If the truth of the Democrat Socialist Communist collusion with the Globalist NWO Commies ever came out, well that’s what all those ICBMs on both sides are for.
The Democrat Party explained in one easy picture.
Extra bonus question — Is the DNC colluding with Mexico (Blanco Tequila) or Russia (Vodka)?
PEACE
Yes, that was sarcasm, thanks for asking about it. As far as I know, President Trump hasn’t done anything illegal while in office. Prior to winning the presidency, he was a businessman who skated right up to the edge of the law many times, but that’s what you pay a battery of lawyers and accountants to do. Of course, that won’t stop the Democrats from taking him to court, especially in New York; he has lots of rivals and enemies there.
Average taxpayers have no idea about business and the law; some law, like intellectual property law, is practically meaningless until it is litigated. Typical taxpayers sit shivering in their houses every May, terrified that some government auditor will dispute the 250 square feet of their house that they’re claiming a business deduction for.
Shrinking violets don’t build skyscrapers in big cities. That’s where Mr. Trump developed his thick skin, his knowledge of politicians, his dislike of endless regulations, his ability to set a goal and persevere in the face of massive, organized opposition etc. Democrats just cannot grasp the fact that he’s seen it all before many times: the attacks on his character and his family, the hatred of special interest groups, the connivance of politicians, newspapers waging war in the press, it’s old hat for this guy. It all happened EVERY TIME he wanted to build something.
where to go? Go f themselves
Where do they go?
Answer:ALL OUR RACE WAR AGAINST……NATIVE BORN WHITE AMERICAN WORKING CLASS MALES!!!!
Notice variously how Jews and their Shabbos goy, at least one category of which Anonymous demonstrably falls into, always attempt niggling points, even when there are none to be had, to create divisions in the ranks of their enemies (us).
This column was not about the Russian hacking narrative. Staying on topic is taught in middle school. What grade did you complete?
Apparently not one that taught reading comprehension either, let alone the analysis ability that would tell you that the issue is not the hacking itself, which would be almost impossible to disprove if it were not true, but instead what public information rooted “election interference” means in the context of any American election (absolutely nothing given both the first amendment and US voter free agency to read, filter, and make choices on all public information no matter what the source; free agency that is the bedrock of this democracy).
As for reading comprehension, you missed this:
Which implies that the personnel basis that served as a central pillar for advancing the Russian collusion / interference narrative had partisan motives and thus was invalid, and by association invalidating the collusion / interference narrative.
And you missed this:
Which demonstrates that the Clinton campaign is guilty of colluding with the Russians, the very thing that Trump was investigated for as a result of that collusion. Invalidating the investigation as just if not in law.
This is more than enough reference in the article to your stated so-called requirement to give lip service to ancillary topics in regard to Russia’s effects on the 2016 election (the only Russia context worth discussing).
You objectively can’t hold Buchanan’s piss, which is a point that is amplified by the fact that you criticize with the skill of a functional illiterate.
Hey Jackass
Trump is importing the Democratic Party Nonwhite Voting Bloc LEGALLY….And he is using Native Born White Christian American Males as canon fodder in the US Military to impose legal homo marriage on Iran….You stupid Jackass……
Robert Mueller exposed himself as a doter. His report will be a symbol of the travesty of justice of the American system. I doubt whether he wrote the story himself or went through 448 pages, which would have overwhelmed him. He is inept of doing such voluminous readings. His team was packed with Clinton lawyers. What could one expect coming out of this instigated setup? If the Dems are political wise, which I doubt, should draw the curtain over this piece of trash. But bullheaded ideologues such as Adam Schiff and Herrold Nadler or the Squad will keep on and on till the Dems are defeated again in 2020.
Good point.
But, not the war HE has started, but his support for the truly warmongering Israel who continues to engage in mass murder on almost a daily basis, all financed with money that Trump approves of.
Let’s leave to others how well each of us reads and writes.
“This column was not about the Russian hacking narrative.” Yes, that’s my point: no one in Washington — and in particular Mr. Buchanan — has the guts to dispute the premise of Russian election interference.* In fact, in a previous column published here, he expressly endorsed that premise, and said that Americans should be upset about it. Both the Red and the Blue know that without overseas foes, the Establishment can’t herd the sheep here in Exceptionalia into being ruled by those who want to run the world from Washington.
“Which demonstrates that the Clinton campaign is guilty of colluding with the Russians, the very thing that Trump was investigated for as a result of that collusion.” See how you’re buying in? Flinging Russiapoop at each other keeps people taking sides in the puppet show. Do you really think that anyone but perhaps a minion or two will ever be convicted of anything?
———
*I agree with what you appear to be saying at the end of your “Apparently not one ..” paragraph. We need no protection from foreign speech.
Addendum:
This was discussed under the article published May 31, where I first asked Mr. Buchanan’s fans why he seemed willfully ignorant of the observations of people like William Binney.
If you look back, you will see a pattern of endorsing this aspect of the Beltway narrative. For example, on July 7, 2017, Mr. Buchanan wrote: “Americans are rightly angry that Russia hacked the presidential election of 2016.” The columns and comment threads of July 20 and 24, 2018, also illustrate what I’m talking about. I have read him closely, and Mr. Buchanan has been faithful to the Establishment on this point, careful to leave Russia cast as enemy.
Yes, there is no reason to feel sorry for Mueller. As you say, and I have said, he didn’t have to take this job. He didn’t have to hire a partisan pit bull, who hired more partisan hacks. He wasn’t exactly being water-boarded during the hearing — just made uncomfortable and to look like a doddering old fool (I don’t think it was an act). How should he have been made to feel after conducting this fraud of an investigation that was laughably one-sided, wasted millions of taxpayer dollars, and did severe damage to the country? This man will disappear into anonymity and live out the rest of his life in wealth and comfort. There is no need for pity.
What you say does not negate what Anon7 said. Is the name-calling really necessary? Why not save it for more egregious comments?

True enough.
Rule by few, rule by many–
It all comes down to money.
Don’t kick a man when he is down? More importantly, Mueller showed himself to be unimportant. Train fire on people who can fire back. That will not be Mueller.

Poor old guy.
Only once did somebody bring up that the government could produce NO evidence that the Russian troll farm had connections to the Russian government. That was what he was referring to. Nobody took it beyond that to suggest that there isn’t any actual evidence of ANY interference in the election or what it was exactly that constituted interference.
Both parties want to pretend there is Russian meddling because the only people who want good relations with Russia are Trump and the majority of the American people and they don’t count.
Yes, he had all the NSA transcripts of every communication the Trump team did. In two months even he had to know the whole thing was a hoax. Anybody with true character would have exposed it. Anybody with character who wanted to protect the reputation of the intelligence community would have quickly issued a report saying “No collusion” and walked off the stage.
No mention of collusion with Israel. Or is that a misnomer since Israel runs the United States?
Very witty!
Agree. Paddy as usual.

Alright, thanks for the Daily Caller link.
Your Mueller list is incomplete–this _old_ discussion will help add to the list:

You can’t get more “Deep State” than Mueller.
He was in the chorus in support of the Bush43 fabrication about WMDs in Iraq.
