Whereas it is alleged that US campuses have been hit by a tsunami of anti-Semitism, the fact is, Jewish life at the nation’s colleges is thriving as never before while, at the Ivy Leagues, Jews are probably the beneficiaries of reverse discrimination.

The allegations of a new “new anti-Semitism” have not only been directed at Europe. American college campuses are also said to be awash in anti-Semitism. The New York Times reported a “surge of hostile sentiment directed against Jews at many campuses in the country.”[1]Adam Nagourney, “In U.C.L.A. Debate over Jewish Student, Echoes on Campus of Old Biases,” New York Times (5 March 2015). As if in corroboration, a recent survey of Jewish college students purported that 54 percent “personally experienced or witnessed anti-Semitism during the 2013-2014 academic year.”[2]Barry A. Kosmin and Ariela Keysar, National Demographic Survey of American Jewish College Students 2014 (Hartford, CT: February 2015). But, if one sets aside the fairly trivial result that 29 percent of those surveyed experienced anti-Semitism “from an individual student,” the report’s findings tell a different story: ten percent experienced anti-Semitism in “clubs/societies” (it appears that some respondents automatically classified campus groups critical of Israel as anti-Semitic),[3]The report also notes that “anti-Semitism was self-defined by the respondents.” The Jewish DailyForward questioned the poll’s methodology and downplayed its findings (“The Anti-Semitism Surge That Isn’t,” 27 March 2015). ten percent in “other contexts” (email, graffiti), six percent in a “lecture class,” four percent in the “student union,” and three percent in the “administrative system.” If one discounts from these already exiguous percentages, on the one hand, conflating of criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism (members of pro-Israel campus organizations were much more prone to allege anti-Semitism)[4]The report’s authors themselves collapse the distinction between anti-Semitism and “anti-Zionism.” Indeed, they lament that “Jewish students and supporters of Israel are not perceived as legitimate victim groups” on college campuses (emphasis added). and, on the other, Jewish hypersensitivity when it comes to anti-Semitism (the report itself appears to concede this point; for those who doubt it, see Woody Allen’s Annie Hall), the various percentages approach zero. The real news from the survey’s findings is that anti-Semitism has been effectively vanquished on US college campuses. On the key issue of opportunity in higher education, Jews can scarcely sustain a claim to discrimination. Although Jews make up about two percent of the US population, their representation in the Ivy League ranges from 40 percent (Columbia, University of Pennsylvania) to 25 percent (Yale, Harvard, Cornell), to 13-20 percent (Dartmouth, Princeton, Brown). If anything, Jews have arguably been the beneficiaries of a reverse discrimination in their favor, while Asian-Americans have been the actual victims of discriminatory admissions policies.[5]Ron Unz, “The Myth of American Meritocracy,” American Conservative (28 November 2012).

  1. Refreshing to hear a “minority” NOT playing the victim card.

I see an increase in anti-semitism on many website comments.

Mostly in the anti Israel/banker sense.

  2. Rehmat says:

I find it amusing to hear such dumb question from some academic whose academic career like Dr. Kavin Barrett was ruined by powerful Jewish Lobby at Campus.

The latest display of such Nazism tactics is Afro-American academic, Dr. Larycia Hawkins, a political science professor at America’s prestigious ‘Evangelic Wheaton College’ decision to wear Hijab during Christmas holidays in support American Muslims who are being targeted by pro-Israel politicians and Zionist-controlled media.

The whole issue of “anti-semitism” is a part of the Jewish scam to pretend to be a “victim” by a mentally deranged criminal gang to cover up their criminality and depravity, Jewish Supremacism, Jewish criminality, Jewish barbarianism and anti-humanity and anti-Christianity.

Their alienism (such as the scammer Paul Krookman who wants rapists and murderers to invade Jew-S-A while Gopstein calls for expulsion of benign and loving Christians) is evidence of their barbarianism.

Here is a mentally deranged Jewish psychopath celebrating Xmas 2015 by calling for their expulsion:

But the Judaists are really the blood sucking vampires. Their Rabbis “open border” the boys right after birth and rape them and mutilate them and suck their blood, as shown in these pictures:

(When the poor mothers cry in horror, they probably preach them “tolerance” too.)

Even though the Koran calls the “Jews” pigs, and Jewish author Hitchens realized that the Old Testament was written by “human animals”, the poor Christians are so good to them, they do not call them “human animals” or “animals in human form. ”

Jews are not discriminated in the West as they used to be in the past. Jewish elites have become the “Kingmakers” in the western world. They control governments, media, banking institutions, world forums, WB, IMF, Law-makers, and law enforcement agencies.

However, the Organized Jewry cannot let its phony sense of victimization go away as it’s a CASH COW.

McGill University (Montreal) professors of Medicine, Moshe Szyf, a UK-born kosher Jew, and his Irish colleague Michael J. Meaney have claimed that negative life experience can alter the genome of future generations.

“The implication for Jews is that the way they cope with life today may indeed echo the trauma suffered by their ancestors though millennia of pogroms and persecution. Some of the qualities often associated with Jewishness – from feeling guilt to the importance of education – may also be genetically imprinted from generation to generation,” David Lazarus said at the Jewish Chronicle on March 12, 2015 while commenting on Moshe Szyf’s study….

  7. AZ says:

Finkelstein laments discrimination against Asian students, as usual there is no mention of European students victimized by Jewish nepotism and Affirmative Action programs for non-whites.

  8. hbm says:

You say discrimination; I say goyim trying to protect themselves and their societies.

  9. JEC says:

An obvious point: It looks like Jews are over-represented at Ivy League universities in proportion to their numbers in the population of America. Whether that’s because they benefit from “reverse discrimination” is moot.

  10. alexander says:

    Dear Dr Finkelstein,

Finding evidence of” authentic” antisemitism versus legitimate criticism of Israel and its policies should be, in a well informed society, ever harder and harder to do.

The government of Israel seems to spare no expense to conflate the two, which is immensely unfair to the vast number of Jews in this country and the world…who find its policies and behavior abhorrent.

The government of Israel, were it to “legitimately” seek to represent “world Jewry” would be well served to, at least, have a” Peace plan” that is fair minded ,well articulated and applicable to all the outstanding areas in which it is now in conflict.

Then the claim the government makes, that Israel stands for “all Jews” would absorb ,to some degree ,the millions of Jews who stand for peace.

Even then, the substantial number of Jews, who could not care, one way or the other, or who believe Israel should not even be there in the first place, no matter how many ” peace plans “it comes up with, will still be left out in the cold.

Dr. Finkelstein, what do you think of the following latest news on Jeffrey Epstein?

Flight logs of Palm Beach billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s private jet show attorney Alan Dershowitz flew on it at least four times…

Attorneys Brad Edwards and Paul Cassell, who represent some of Epstein’s underage victims, filed the lawsuit in January following Dershowitz’s media campaign against them. The Harvard law professor emeritus was fighting claims by their client — Virginia Roberts Giuffre — that she had sex with Dershowitz at the behest of Epstein when she was a minor.
Giuffre has filed two sworn statements, accusing Dershowitz of having sexual intercourse with her at least six times in various places, including Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion. Dershowitz has vigorously denied the allegations.

Attractive Jews do not find hostility. It is the ordinary Jew that is discriminated against. Israeli killing of a few Palestinians is used to express unpopular anti-Jewish feelings. Campus is a hotbed of anti-Jewish feelings. Moderators will not print this. They most likely work for the CIA.

My Jewish ancestors in eighteenth century London enjoyed a very comfortable lifestyle; their colleagues and brethren frequently benefiting from the results of business ventures which especially targeted the children of the aristocratic elite – namely, lending them money and then, following flamboyant ‘forgiveness’ of these inevitably disastrous loans, offered advancement in society as recompense. My great great great grandfather was presented at Court (George IIIrd.). While the Dukes of Cambridge and Cumberland and entourage, appeared at the Great Synagogue itself with reverential echoes in the press of the day.

    March 30 1809.

To the Gentlemen Parnassim of the Great Synagogue, Messrs. Samuel Joseph, Asher Goldsmid and Joseph Cohen.

    Gentlemen :

Their Royal Highnesses the Dukes of Cambridge and Cumberland having signified to me their intention of visiting the Synagogue on Friday evening, the 14th of April next, pray give me leave to ask if it will be agreeable to you, gentlemen, to receive them on that day, which will oblige him who has the honour to subscribe himself,

Your most obedient and humble servant,

    Abraham Goldsmid.

If you read this article you will see that the reverence was in no way extended the the Royal Dukes themselves!

The more affluent strata of Jewish society were treated with huge and very necessary deference in that era, make no mistake. And although the popular press of that time could resort to language not condoned today in its treatment of petty (Jewish) villains, I think it possible there was less antisemitism then than now. The difference today being that it smolders, suppressed, in the bosoms of a multitude of persons who perceive themselves to have been wronged by their treatment at Jewish hands; yet who find they have no recourse.

Indeed, Unz’s analysis implied that, compared to Jews, non-Jewish Whites are represented at Harvard at 1/15th of the level they would be in a meritocratic system. On the other hand, compared to Jews, Asians are underrepresented at 1/7 of the level they would achieve in a meritocratic system. It is indeed obvious that Asians are being actively discriminated against. But only compared to Jews, and certainly not when compared to non-Jewish Whites. Indeed, non-Jewish Whites are discriminated against more than twice as much as Asians when compared to Jews. I don’t see any other possible explanation besides ethnic networking for this “wildly disproportionate” overrepresentation of Jews compared to non-Jewish Whites.

Why has Ron Unz stopped talking about discrimination against non-Jewish Whites?

The issue at Wheaton is an entirely different matter. Don’t get me wrong. I’m in agreement with you about the influence of the Jewish lobby. However, Wheaton is run by Evangelical Christians, and they tend to be VERY particular when it comes to theological matters. The problem with the Wheaton professor is that she was implying that muslims worship the same god as Evangelical Christians. I’m not saying she’s right or wrong….but regardless, that point of view violates the worldview held by Wheaton. I’m not defending Wheaton College, but this is what is behind their decision to suspend this woman….and most likely terminate her employment.

I could be wrong, but I strongly doubt this issue has to do with the Jewish lobby. There’s some theological diversity at Wheaton. I’m pretty sure that at least one prominent professor there has written books strongly criticizing Christian Zionism.

Are you talking about Christopher Hitchens? Are you saying he was Jewish? Could you please cite your sources to support your conclusion? I’d be happy to look at whatever you provide. Thank you!

Well, I did some research of my own, and there is truth to this. I read that Hitchens’s mother was Jewish, but she kept this a secret. So, no need to respond to my earlier question. I did not know this. This is interesting.

All that said, maybe people like Hitchens’s mother could be a role model to people of Jewish heritage who want to assimilate into the rest of the population. Join the rest of humanity. Stop asserting your Jewishness, choseness, Jewish supremacy, whatever, and join the rest of us. Israeli-born Gilad Atzmon writes a lot about this. Can’t really say I disagree with much of what he writes.

    Wonder no more ……

On December 10, 2015, Julie Sullivan, president of Catholic University of St. Thomas in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, in a statement expressed solidarity with the local Muslim community.

“At a time of deeply troubling anti-Muslim political rhetoric in American society, we at the University of St. Thomas reiterate our welcome to Muslims as members of our community, our gratitude for the many contributions that Muslims make to our community, and our unwavering support especially for our many Muslim students,” she said.

“Muslims, Jews and Christians have common roots of their faith in their father, Abraham. Nevertheless, no matter what our sameness or our differences, the inherent dignity of all people is a constitutive tenet of our Catholic tradition and teaching,” she added. That reminds me my pastor at the Catholic Mission, who once told me that reaching Allah and God is like climbing Mount Everest. Each climber takes different route believing his is the shortest one.

In 2007, under pressure from the Jewish lobby, St. Thomas University, then president Rev. Dennis Dease cancelled an invitation to South Africa’s former Archbishop Desmond Tutu for his support for Palestinian struggle.

On November 24, 2015, Fredericton-born Lyse Doucet, BBC’s chief international correspondent delivered a lecture in journalism at St. Thomas. She was declared anti-Semite by the UK’s Jewish Lobby as result of producing an hour-long documentary, Children of the Gaza War, released in July 2015. In the documentary, she used word Israelis to describe the foreign occupiers of Palestine instead of Jews. Ms Doucet stood by her decision because the word Jew is unknown in Arabic language. The people who follow Moses Law, are known Yahud since the time of Christ. Israeli historian, Dr. Shlomo Sand, in his book, The Invention of Jewish People, also confirms that the word Jew was invented only a century ago. Watch the documentary below.

  23. @Macilrae

“…who perceive themselves to have been wronged by their treatment at Jewish hands;…”

The question is, was it a real wrong or an imagined wrong? If it was real, then their grievance is justified and there is no anti-Semitism in their animus. That is to say, they don’t hate Jews “because they are Jews”, but rather hate Jews for their criminality. How much of what is called “anti-Semitism” is founded on resentment of millennia-long Jewish crime.

There is an old cliche that everyone in jail claims to be innocent, so too with the Jews. They shriek “Anti-Semitism” to deflect the accusations that stem from their real crimes. And it doesn’t help that the non-criminal Jews buy into the “Anti-Semitism” defense, and support the criminal elite at the top of the Jewish tribal order.

Read Mark Twain’s “Concerning the Jews”, it explains the whole business.

Oh, by the way, I’m an American and a Jew.

  24. @Hypocritter

White people are stupid, they are discriminated against by their own genes. Get over it.

There are enough of them however, that the small fraction that are actually intelligent constitute some several millions. Also, if we’re talking about the US, then you have to figure in the loss of cognitive talent from the programmed stupidity training that is American culture and its attendant education system.

  25. Although Jews make up about two percent of the US population, their representation in the Ivy League ranges from 40 percent (Columbia, University of Pennsylvania) to 25 percent (Yale, Harvard, Cornell), to 13-20 percent (Dartmouth, Princeton, Brown).

According to Hillel, Columbia and Penn are 20% and 25% Jewish respectively. Hillel’s Harvard numbers are a misprint but Columbia, Penn, Yale, Harvard, and Cornell run about 20-25% Jewish while the other three, Dartmouth, Princeton, and Brown, are 10-15% Jewish.

  26. @seth

Jews are not the beneficiaries of affirmative action (reverse discrimination). The Ivy League uses affirmative action to divvy seats to every ethnic group. Once applicants are sorted by ethnic group, students are admit by ability/merit.

For example with blacks, their quota is filled with children of immigrants and mixed-raced applicants who identify as black such as Benjamin Jealous who is 18% black. These two groups only make a small percentage of the black population but they are the most academically competent.

When the white quota gets filled, Jews have the highest ability/merit so they end of with most of the slots.

Why has Ron Unz stopped talking about discrimination against non-Jewish Whites?

Perhaps it’s because Unz knows his audience. In a “conversation” from the New York Times and in an article for National Review he implied(by stating that there is a “quota”) that there is discrimination against Asians. In fact, his data and assumptions shows no such discrimination except when compared with Whites + Jews as a group; he explicitly states this in Meritocracy. But the NYT and NR would never print anything implying discrimination against non-Jewish Whites, Meritocracy’s true finding. Due to this bait-and-switch, and due to the length of his article, a lot of people come away with the impression that the article claimed discrimination against Asians, Norman Finklestein is just the latest.

There are numerous problems with Unz’s claim that the Ivy League is discriminating in favor of Jews. I wrote a blog post critiquing Unz’s article:
