The foreign policy of China and the United States are completely different. In a nutshell:

China builds stuff around the world. China builds roads, railroads, ports, dams, and water treatment plants. They try to avoid taking sides among political parties in foreign countries.

One year into his war with Ukraine, Vladimir Putin’s world has shrunk. He’s lost his claim to be a global leader. Prior to his launching the invasion of Ukraine a year ago, the world treated Russia as a great power with a seat at the table on major international issues. Relations with the West may have been tense, but European and American officials continued to engage with Russia. Russia was an energy superpower with the geopolitical heft that went with that, and Putin had just established a “no limits” partnership with China’s President Xi. And Ukrainians were divided over how they viewed Russia.

What a difference a year has made. The devastation wreaked by Russians on the Ukrainian people has consolidated the entire country against them and ensured that Ukrainians will despise their large neighbor for a long time to come. Ukraine will emerge from this war with one of the most effective armies in Europe and with the prospect of European Union membership and close ties to NATO. Ukraine, as numerous officials reiterated at last weekend’s Munich Security Conference, will become part of the European family, the exact opposite of what Putin hoped to achieve with this war.

Also, looming up ahead is the insolvency of both Social Security and Medicare within about fifteen years. When Social Security becomes insolvent it will mean 20% benefit cuts. To keep Social Security and Medicare benefits at current levels will require a trillion-dollar tax increase: a 6% increase in the payroll tax and a 15% federal sales tax. Either that or increase the retirement age. The typical Democrat solution of taxing rich people more won’t work because there are just not enough rich people. This is especially going to be the case in the future with a more nonwhite and lower IQ younger generation, due to our dysgenic welfare and immigration policies over the last 60 years.

The public will reluctantly go along with tax increases or benefit cuts but not if the bloated defense budget is treated as a sacred cow that can’t be touched. After we reduce the defense budget, we won’t be able to play policeman of the world anymore. We will move from a unipolar to a multipolar world where major countries have spheres of influence. The Ukraine will be in the Russian sphere of influence. Our sphere of influence will be North America. The Russians won’t be putting missiles in Cuba, and we won’t be putting missiles in the Ukraine.

Well then, which country has a more “positive vision” for the future: China or the United States?

Well, China is a surplus economy while the USA is a deficit economy.

When America was a surplus economy, up to 1980 (in that year America’s net international creditor position was larger than the combined net creditor positions of all other countries), it helped fund lots of infrastructure projects through special programs such as the Marshall Plan in Europe and through institutions such as the WB around the world.

I checked few videos in the beginning of this conflict and realized I would have to spend considerable time and effort just to make educated guess what I was really looking at and in many cases I could never figure out if the clip was authentic or not. As far as I know, doctoring videos is easy and doesn’t cost much these days. Just using old footage from earlier conflicts or military exercises with different soundtrack or text can do the trick. Not to mention more advanced methods.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we have many ‘factories’ producing fake videos and spamming the web 24/7 disguised as something else.

I don’t rely on a single type of source. I read from multiple sources and watch videos from about a dozen channels.

The video shows a huge number of tanks and striker vehicles on a ship. There are also a lot of random support vehicles. I see no reason to assume it was some type of previous purchase. I don’t see NATO allies buying all that equipment at once.

The port certainly looks like Europe. It has European looking vehicles. In one shot there is a European looking building in the background. Maybe someone in Germany can tell us if they recognize it.

I’m fine with discussing these videos. Unlike Macgregor/Ritter fans I don’t freak out over skepticism.

Some of the most revealing videos have been cell phone videos from troops. I see no reason to assume that they are all from a factory when you can find plenty of cell phone videos from Russians that show Ukrainians being killed. Both sides post them to telegram. I do so totally agree with everything in this essay. I just have 2 points to add:

1. Most large US (And other) Corporate decisions are now made on the basis of tax. Offshoring jobs to China not only created better gross margings but also allowed the profits to be kept offshore using intra-Company transfer pricing to get the profits into a tax haven jurisdiction and defer or evade US taxes.

2. The other aspect to US (and European, mostly UK) pillage of commodity producers has been, since the mid-1970’s, through the use of paper Futures “markets”. In this system, commodities are priced not on physical supply and demand but on paper Futures derivatives. If there is a supply squeeze and prices start to rise, large amounts of nakede (unbacked by anything) paper “short” contracts are printed to create an imaginary supply, thus holding prices down. This essentially negates the basic law of supply and demand. The US then pays for those under-priced commodities with “green paper” (Dollars), which as the world reserve currency, it can print almost indefinitely – until it causes massive inflation (sound familiar?). This system has given the Anglo-American world an enormous and unfair advantage over commodity producing countries. And of course, the US has not been content to leave it there – it has also “weaponised” the Dollar and used it for sanctions against countries that do not “respect the Rules-Based Order” (a/k/a what the US wants)

The US Army has maintained hundreds of Abrams tanks in Poland for years to threaten Russia in violation of the Founding Act. It could send them across the border to Ukraine in a few days, but will not.

The Army says it will pull out old mothballed tanks from storage in the USA and rebuild them to send to Ukraine. Then if they fail in Ukraine, Army Generals will state those were outdated Abrams, but the newer ones are much better, and Generals don’t want to lose them in a pointless war.

I hope you respond as to whether or not these statements are accurate, and additionally, if a government that operates in this manner should be supported by Western world democracies.

The conflict between the United States and Russia will determine whether global economic integration will expand within an evolving multi-polar system or if the “rules-based order” will succeed in crushing any opponent to its Western-centric model.

The West has been very open about the goal of defeating, dismembering and controlling Russia. But China isn’t about to let that happen and it’s surprising that the neocons in charge haven’t realized this. It is in China’s best interest to continue trading with an intact Russian state for its rich natural resources, and Russia’s collapse into smaller statelets would send those resources to the West. Therefore it is in China’s best interest to back Russia in the Ukraine.

For twenty years, the official policies of the US government have had the unintended consequence of pushing Russia and China together, such that Sino-Russian cooperation became a logical option and in fact a matter of survival for both countries. If someone were to buy a house in the US they would not consider it to have indoor plumbing if it didn’t have a modern toilet connected to a septic tank or sewer. Perhaps they do. Or not. Show us a copy of the law in English. There will always be people who don’t want to fight. As in the USA, some will run to other countries like Canada. If you read past the headline though, you’ll quickly realize that it is misleading. The author confuses indoor plumbing with centralized sewage:

So, it’s not 22.6% without indoor plumbing, but 22.6% without centralized sewage, and only 5.8% without indoor plumbing.

There’s more though:

In rural Russia, almost two-thirds have no access to indoor toilets, 48.1 percent of whom use outhouses and 18.4 percent do not have a sewage system.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that something is wrong here: an outhouse is by definition not connected to sewerage. And indeed, they’re quoting this RBC article and that’s not what it says. Here’s the relevant text in Russian:

English translation:

66.5% of Russians living in rural areas do not have a centralized sewerage system. This includes 48.1% of rural families using cesspools and 18.4% with no sewerage at all.

Cesspools most certainly fall under “indoor toilet” category and the only difference for the end user is that they need to call a honeywagon from time to time.

Thanks to this mistranslation, 48.1% using cesspools turned into 48.1% using outhouses, 66.5% without centralized sewerage turned into 66.5% without indoor toilets, and then the phrase “in rural Russia” somehow got lost, so we have people unironically thinking that 2/3 of Russians have no indoor toilets. I don’t expect this myth to subside, though: the dumber you are, the less likely are you to admit being wrong, and the average Internet user is only slightly more intelligent than an earwig.
