On October 30 I received an email from Stripe, Substack’s only payment processor, announcing that I had been canceled due to “risk tolerance as determined by a number of factors.” After much back-and-forth with both Stripe and Substack (see screenshots below) it became clear that there was no recourse. Stripe can cancel you because its CEO is a rabid genocide supporter, and Substack doesn’t care enough to do anything about it.

https://techforpalestine.org

We need to boycott Stripe. That means canceling all paid Substack subscriptions. (Don’t worry, your payments to this one have already been automatically canceled! Please do NOT initiate chargebacks, that will just make my situation worse!)

Be sure to write to Substack and the writers explaining why you have canceled all your paid subscriptions, and assuring them that you will re-subscribe and then some as soon as there is an alternative to genocidal, pro-censorship Stripe. Once the normally pro-free-speech Substack gets the message, it will do the right thing and find another payment processor.

Meanwhile…I was living primarily on $2500 per month in Substack subscriptions. That is now gone, and Stripe refuses to pay the $7,786.03 they admit they owe me. See screenshots below.

So now I need to raise $2500 per month to replace my lost Substack donations. But how?

Around the beginning of each month I will announce a new SpotFund donation page for that month.

SpotFund Donation Page for my Substack Work in December 2024

Additionally, people can donate one time, or monthly or annually, through my Paypal donation page.

And I also appreciate donations to False Flag Weekly News (which came up slightly short last week).

My first preference would be for you to get used to using Spotfund. I am told they are pro-free-speech.

Thank you for your support, and please spread the word in any way you can by emailing and reposting this on social media, especially Substack Notes.

Best

Subject: Your recent question for Stripe

Hello, I received a notice that Stripe cannot process transactions on my account. I thought it might be a temporary situation or an error, so I waited three weeks, but my transactions are still paused.
I have been using Stripe for more than a decade without problems and would like to resolve this issue. I would be happy to work with you in whatever way is most effective.

Sincerely, Kevin Barrett

Hi there,

Thank you for following up.

Firstly, we really appreciate your eagerness to continue working with us. However, we are required to follow strict guidelines on the types of businesses we can and can’t support.

In this case, after a thorough review of your account, it does seem like your business presents a higher level of risk than we can currently support.

Because of this we’ve determined that we still won’t be able to accept payments for your business moving forward.
We’re sorry we can’t be of more help, but these restrictions are firm.

Best,

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

There seems to be a misunderstanding. You claim that I have a business. I do not have a business. My Stripe account is only used for accepting gifts. I am a writer. My patrons offer voluntary gifts through Substack: www.KevinBarrett.substack.com Patrons are informed in advance that they will not get anything in return for their gifts.

What kind of “risk” can there be when a writer simply accepts donations from patrons who want to support that writer?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand your concern regarding the decision on your account. Allow me to provide clarity and explain further.

We are unable to provide any further details regarding the reason for your account’s closure. We do have to impose strict limits on the accounts that we can and can’t support and we’re unable to work with any account that we believe possesses risk tolerance as determined by several factors, or violates our own policies. In this case, after a thorough review of your account, we have determined that your account falls within these guidelines. Therefore, we are unable to reverse our decision.

I apologize that we weren’t able to offer you a better experience, and wish you the best of luck with your business. We truly hope you find a payment service provider that is just right for you. Hello Daniel,

You write, “Don’t hesitate to let us know if there is any way that we can help with your transition, such as moving your data over.” Please do send me all of my account data including all information you have about my donors.

I also absolutely need to see the specific reason(s) for which my account “possesses risk tolerance” (sic).

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for keeping in touch. I understand that you have further requests regarding the data of your donors and further queries about the rejection of your account. Let me provide you with further details.

I double check your request here to get the data of your donors. Unfortunately, with the current status of your account, we’re unable to complete this request. Our team has reviewed your Stripe account and has determined that we are not comfortable with the level of risk presented by completing this data request.

Rest assured that while I can’t discuss the specifics of Stripe processes and the rejection of your account due to our privacy policy, all accounts are reviewed according to our Services Agreement.

I apologize that we weren’t able to offer you a better experience, and wish you the best of luck with your business.

Hello Daniel,

You write “all accounts are reviewed according to our Services Agreement.” I have read Stripe’s Sevices Agreement and am sure that any impartial legal review team will find that I did not violate any of its terms. If Stripe’s “team” thinks I violated one or more terms of the agreement, obviously it must inform me which terms it erroneously claims I violated.

My email exchange with Substack

Hi Jim,

Stripe has apparently canceled me, without giving a reason. I assume it’s politically motivated and probably relates to my outspokenly pro-Palestine anti-Zionist writings. (I’m an ex-academician https://news.wisc.edu/archive/barrettissue/ turned dissident.)

Note that my Paypal account is in good standing and has been for almost 20 years. https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=R3343H7KN455E

Stripe’s pro-censorship orientation is interfering with Substack’s mission. I am in contact with other writers who have experienced similar problems, and will be writing about the issue. I would love to interview Chris Best or another appropriate Substack exec about this and related topics. And of course I would appreciate any steps Substack may take to solve this problem.

Sincerely

Kevin Barrett

PS Attached and below are relevant screenshots and emails. Note that Stripe was supposed to pay me $7871 on Nov. 5 but keeps rolling back the payout date.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear about the deactivation of your Stripe account. Since Stripe accounts are owned and managed directly by publishers, Substack doesn’t have insight into the reasons for account restrictions or the ability to intervene in Stripe’s decisions. If you choose to dispute the payment pause with Stripe, we can provide you with relevant documentation they may need or request to support your case.

While we work to make Substack a platform for free expression, we’re currently unable to support payment processors other than Stripe. That said, I’ve shared your feedback with our product team for consideration as we continue to improve our platform.

If there’s anything else I can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Jim @ Substack

Thank you, Jim.

Any chance I could get a quote from someone representing Substack deploring Stripe’s debanking writers whose politics they disagree with?

If you’re not going to fix the problem, the least you could do is deplore it ; – )

Best

Kevin

  1. Wow, Orwell would be proud.

My suggestion is to create a linkedin account. Make it as in oculus as possible and just start adding employees from stripe as contacts.

90% of people accept friend requests on LinkedIn. Then message them with your question.

I don’t think you’ll get the problem resolved, but you will probably be able to get more info

Great. You are a coward working for Iranians spreading false propaganda to bolster their cause in exchange for dollars which you use to live in Morocco, the most anti-Iran and pro-Israel Muslim country.

You are nothing but a morally degenerate money grubbing hypocritical propagandist for Iran.

If you were not morally degenerate you and honest, you would have married an Iranuan woman and stayed in Iran with your troops. But instead you choose the most Pro West and pro Israel country Morocco, which proves your hypocrisy.

Islamic propaganda is a money making opportunity for ya, and you can live like a King along Mediterranean resorts among white and Jew worshipping Arabs who bow Sahib to you every day with the dollars Piss TV sends you.

Compare this to the justice of Shuraih Al-Qadhi, a judge who ruled in favor of a Jewish thief who had stolen the Caliph ‘Ali’s shield.

‘Ali lost his case in spite of being Caliph because, in a shari’ah court, he couldn’t call upon his own son as a witness, and was left without proof of the crime.

The Jew then becomes Muslim and returns the shield to ‘Ali, but ‘Ali insists he keep it.

Let’s face it… Temple Israel (the diaspora’s power base) lost long before Oct. 7, 2023. This pig-headed insistence on imposing their ‘chosen’ status upon the rest of us is all the proof of their defeat we need.

  4. @ginger bread man

If Substack supports free speech but their payments processor Stripe doesn’t – and Stripe has to be their only payments processor – then Substack really doesn’t support free speech.

The answer is a non-Ringwraith Substack clone with a genuinely non-political payments processor based outside Mordor. The payments process is tricky if most subscribers reside in Mordor influenced Middle Earth (the West).

Payments processing looks like the key – with Substack itself being easy to duplicate.

Russia and China appreciate the problem . They’re not themselves bastions of free speech but they do need a reliable international payments system of their own similar to SWIFT but free of the threat of US sanctions/asset theft. That would open the way for a Stripe clone – and a similar flight to freedom from many other Ringwraith supervised systems.

This episode is certainly not happening in isolation. Substack must be discovering multiple content providers who are running afoul of this purge by Stripe.

Hopefully this will motivate them to seek alternative payment arrangements for content providers. I hope they are not as captured by the international insane clown posse as Stripe.

Kevin, why are you such a nasty customer and how much does the Ayatollah really pay you? Admit it you naughty one!

    – Yes, once more thanks for the eloquence, that proves it, this horrible money grubbering must stop!

    Kevin, please stop the grubbery!!

Demented Jews support Jihadi lunatics in Syria.

    Russia deserves blame too.
Belatedly, Russians discovered they can’t negotiate with Evil West in Ukraine.
Likewise, they must realize they can’t negotiate with Evil Zionists in Syria.
Syria, Iran, and Russia must finish off the enemy. Otherwise, it’ll be back to square one.

  15. dimples says:

It’s outrageous that a payment processor like Stripe can debank you for any reason, including actual crime. Let’s face it, some of Kev’s posts are so direly stupid that they constitute a crime against the averagely intelligent person, but that’s not a reason to debank anyone let alone steal $7,000, but that’s the JewSA for you. Although Kev earns more per month than I do, he works hard for it whereas I bludge on the pension, so I will be reluctantly sending a regular donation to FFWN from now on.

  16. I don’t agree with a lot of you say and think some it is frankly stupid —

you might however try Ghost. It’s like Substack — has subs, donations. However, it uses Stripe but they offer suggestions about using plugins to interface to other payment gateways.

Ghost mentions the problem of being tied to Stripe. It’s odd that Ghost, which is a competitor in some ways to Substack, is also using the same payment system. It’s all very Jewish. A lot of leftists quit Substack for Ghost because the former was becoming a haunt for vaccine deniers. I mention this because that’s just how strict the Jews are — you can criticize Big Pharma all day and the Covid jab, but you mention genocide and it’s game over.

Ghost is open source software and can be self-hosted. If you intend to keep writing and getting donations from readers, you will need something like this with a some custom software development to handle the integration. Thing is, PayPal already has restrictive clauses that let him charge you fines for publishing things that upset Jews.

It’s really a miracle at this point that you lasted as long as you did with Substack + donations. Judeo-capitalists keep plugging the holes. And hoes.

You might check with Whitney Webb — I think she takes donations (????). You may also need to think about crypto. I don’t see anyone who says anything critical of Judaism being allowed to operate in the open for much longer, especially with Trump going back into the WH.

  17. Bumpkin says:

Sorry to hear what is happening to you, Kevin, but thanks for publicizing this.

Stripe and Substack will now go on my extensive boycott list, just like I stopped using google when they stopped linking to unz.com after decades of using that search engine, though I had never subscribed to any Substacks and my Stripe use is limited to incidental one-off purchases from a few merchants.

Just like looking at Ghost instead, as OliverPeeples mentions above, you may want to look at IPFS to archive your backlog and keep it from being disappeared in the future. It is a way to store multiple copies of your website on many servers and a free way to host your posts.

Unfortunately, it is not easy to use and pay for, like a hosted blog such as Ghost, but it may provide a way for you to keep posting even if they start taking down your blog in the future.

Btw, I support Stripe having the right to choose not to work with you for any reason, they are just being cowards in not stating the reason. Similarly, I will not use them any longer because of such behavior, as even if they stated it is because they support Israel, I am against that cause.

  18. Yababa says:
    @meamjojo

Yeah it is time for him to do some real work instead of parasitizing off Press TV or Muslim fools on Substack who fund him.

That should teach him lesson in how real men earn their incomes.

There may be no camels in Saida, but he could sure wash dishes in restaurants, or serve as waiter, and clean toilets to get a taste of the hardships of life of the people he defends he was so far insulated from by selling low quality bullshit.

His income from Press TV may be more than Substack. He is a rich man in Morocco.

I would suggest he live by his words and go in Gaza as an aid worker, or go to Syria to fight Al Nusra

Calls to boycott tech company Stripe after CEO posts about recent visit to Israel

Supporters of Palestine have called to boycott the payment platform Stripe after its CEO and co-founder Patrick Collison – an Irish-American billionaire who has advocated for Palestinians in the past – posted on social media on Wednesday about his run on the beach in Tel Aviv and how it was “great” to be back.

Many responded to his post on X by pointing out that he was only thirty minutes away from the Gaza Strip. Conservative estimates say nearly 44,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza and two million have been under constant Israeli aggression as they fight what UN experts have called “‘deliberate starvation”.

Some drew comparisons to the Academy Award-winning film, Zone of Interest, which depicts the everyday lives of Germans who lived next to the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War Two.

As of this post, Collison received 18.4k likes for his tweet, while the Zone of Interest response ratio’ed it with nearly double the amount of likes (thereby demonstrating the greater popularity of the anti-Zionist position):

    Continuing with the MEE article…

The post came as a surprise for those who have closely followed his tech career. In 2019, Patrick visited the occupied Palestinian territories and spoke to Palestinian tech entrepreneurs in Ramallah about the obstacles they face in the tech world.

Irish tech founder Paul Biggar, who also founded the Tech for Palestine coalition, took to X to criticise him, posting: “Why are folks are so pissed at @patrickc’s tweet? It’s because, unlike a lot of people, he actually knows what Israel is doing”. […]

Others pointed out that although Patrick has expressed support for Palestinians, his brother and co-founder of Stripe, Tommy, has been open about his support for Zionism. His current bio on X features the word “Zionist” in Hebrew. […]

In response to Patrick’s post, some social media users who have used Stripe in the past said they will no longer use the payment platform and called for a boycott. […]

Tech for Palestine’s Biggar has already created a website featuring a list of 72 alternatives to Stripe as a payment platform. The list is being circulated under posts criticising Patrick for his “support” for Israel.

    I agree with Miro23:

“If Substack supports free speech but their payments processor Stripe doesn’t – and Stripe has to be their only payments processor – then Substack really doesn’t support free speech.”

You should write to Substack’s CEO and ask him/her why they have only one payments processor and pinpoint how it is unsafe to rely only on one payment processor and have all eggs in the same basket.

Because today they come after you but tomorrow they will come after others.

Also, maybe consider to move from Substack to another platform and as you are published on other sites like TUR, other outlets might be interested by your work with a payment.

If Stripe owes you 7000, then it might make sense to sue them too.

Somehow all alt-media writers are in the same boat, they are always under the possibility of being deplatformed and even robbed like it happened for Alex Jones.

The last thing I could say is to have a bank account dedicated to your work on Substack and ask your readers for direct transfers. Many authors with that.

Good luck in any case. I will sure look at the links you provided

    https://www.newarab.com/news/calls-boycott-stripe-after-ceo-posts-israel-propaganda

  23. It’s pretty amazing how they’re allowed to cite some vague assessment of “risk” without ever responding to any requests to explain — in anything like concrete terms — exactly what sort of risk they’re referring to.

Anyone with sense can read between the lines, but they’re so slimy that they refuse to put themselves in the position of admitting that “risk” simply amounts to ‘opinions that we don’t like.’

In retrospect, I should have known that Substack was too good to be true. First they came for Kevin…

  24. @muh muh

Thank you, especially for the 72 alternatives to Stripe link. Unfortunately there is no way of telling which of those 72 alternatives are committed to free speech and which ones aren’t. For example, I noticed Patreon is on the list. They nuked me years ago, which is how I ended up at Substack. So someone should rate the Stripe “alternatives” on free speech. If they aren’t any more censorship-proof than Stripe itself, they aren’t alternatives.
