My guess is that if the powers that control California allow it, Newsom will be narrowly recalled and Elder elected as his successor. Then, of course, the nearly-2/3 Democrat Legisature will enact legislation reversing any executive orders that help us. Agreed, I’m not entirely sure what happened to the left, is it partly inertia? After years of rooting for one party does it become difficult to recognise when that party has been hijacked and no longer represents your views? It certainly appears that way in the UK where the Labour party have become a party of the bourgeoisie, actively hostile to the working classes but still getting their votes and trade union donations.
