Headlines from London today:

Notting Hill Carnival subjected to section 60 order to prevent violence, by Richard Hartley-Parkinson, Metro, August 27, 2018

Notting Hill Carnival: 126 arrests made as police CRACKDOWN on disorder | L ONDON police have arrested 126 people at the Notting Hill Carnival this weekend amid spiralling levels of violence in the capital, By Latifa Yedroudj, James Bickerton, August 27, 2018

From Friday’s Radio Derb–go here to listen.

Across the pond the Brits are coming up to an unhappy anniversary. Let me explain.

This Monday, August 27th, is the last Monday in August. That is what the Brits call a Bank Holiday — a three-day weekend. One feature of this particular Bank Holiday is the Notting Hill Carnival, advertised as a celebration of Caribbean culture. Notting Hill, you see, is a district in west-central London that was one of the first to be colonized by blacks from the West Indies in the earliest wave of Third World immigration after WW2.

The Carnival started in 1966, but it was prompted in part by some earlier events. One of those earlier events was a race riot, which took place at the end of August 1958, in, yes, Notting Hill. It wasn’t Britain’s first race riot; but because it happened in the capital, it got everyone’s attention in a way previous ructions hadn’t.

That’s the anniversary I mentioned. The Notting Hill race riots took place sixty years ago this weekend. The Carnival started up eight years later as part of a medley of efforts to get race relations on a happier, more constructive track.

Things haven’t exactly worked out as hoped for, though as always with race issues, you have to read carefully to learn this.

Most mainstream-media coverage of the Carnival is superficial and happy-clappy. Pictures of white politicians and policemen posing self-consciously among black carnival-goers are de rigueur.

However, as you’d expect for a black event, the Notting Hill Carnival is a disorderly affair with a lot of violence. There are hundreds of arrests every year. The actual number last year was 313: lower than usual, but there had been a big police sweep in the weeks leading up to the event, with more than six hundred arrests.

The level of apprehension this year is high because of the crime wave that London is currently experiencing. The homicide numbers for London have just passed a hundred, with shootings and stabbings leading the stats; and of course, for every homicide there are dozens of woundings, maimings, and disfigurings. Most recently a fashion for throwing acid at people has come up. Practically all of this crime is black on black, though you have to read the news reports with careful attention to notice that.

So nonblack residents of Notting Hill have triple-locked their apartments and left town for the weekend. Acres of wooden boards are going up around stores and private houses. Police and hospital emergency room staff are rubbing their hands with glee, anticipating lots of overtime. The phrase “knife arches” has suddenly appeared in news outlets: metal detectors, basically, being set up at entry points to the Carnival to deter people bringing in knives.

I was thirteen when the Notting Hill riots happened back in 1958. I can remember hearing the adults — working-class white English people — talking about it. The commonest opinion was that it was foolish of the authorities to let so many blacks settle in the country. It was just storing up trouble for the future, people said. Blacks and whites will never get along together, people said. Look at America, people said.

How ignorant and reactionary people were back then! And how wrong! Thank goodness we live now in a more enlightened time!

As we have sown, so shall we reap. Maybe we should lure Israeli nationalists to immigrate and show us how to preserve a culture.

I was perusing the Murder Map and discovered nine of the top 10 Murder Countries were either Central American or Caribbean. Jamaica came in at number 5. El Salvador was number one and surprisingly Haiti didn’t make the top 10. It would seem that Caribe, Mayan, Incans and Aztecs are pretty much innately unchanged from what the Spanish found on arriving. West Africans bring their own level of stupid. The only outrider was Lesotho in South Africa. Remember this when booking a Caribbean vacation.

Derb, that’s awesome! Gun control does work.

Derb, that’s awesome! Gun control does work.

For the law abiding, it works great, if you’re in the burglary industry. In Notting Hill, Nottingham, NottingHereButUsChickens on Avon, and all over England in fact, gun control has been a huge boon to the former-floundering cutlery industry. “Creative Destruction”, we like to call it, in the Econ Biz, I mean SCIENCE of Economics.

Similarly the Caribbean Carnival parade in Brooklyn every Labor Day has been a dangerous gun and narcotics festival forever. But the media tells silly white people it’s a glorious celebration of diversity. Recall 2 years ago an attorney for Governor Cuomo was shot to death in a crossfire of idiots, but really there are people senselessly murdered every year, spare the one year 2 small children were run over and crushed by an errant parade float.

The tourist love it! A taste of real New York living. From the June 13th, 2000. edition of your New York Times:

One woman, a newly wed French tourist, had two gold chains snatched from her neck as chanting men removed her skirt. Three others, teenagers from London, were surrounded by the group of men, who sprayed them with water, tore at their clothing and sexually abused one of them. Another woman, on in-line skates, was pulled to the ground by her backpack by the men, who then desperately tried to pull down her shorts.

These were among the accounts the authorities were sorting through yesterday as they struggled to find members of a wild, cheering mob that attacked at least seven women in Central Park on Sunday evening after the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.

In 35 riotous minutes that terrified the victims and have perplexed public officials and the police, the men, whose number has been estimated variously as 15 to 25, overwhelmed and groped at women in four separate attacks. It was a bizarre sequence of lawlessness in a park whose revival has been emblematic of the city’s rebirth.

  8. Yeah, I’m sure the police were “perplexed”, LOL. I picture an Italian Trump-voting cop who lives in Brooklyn, saying to his Irish Trump-voting partner who lives in Staten Island, “I am just so confused and shocked at Puerto Ricans committing crimes and acting like savages. I’d even say perplexed, isn’t that an apt way to describe how you feel too, colleague?”

If only those working class white English people had been listened too. Or had at least organized themselves to vote for a party that would have!

Strange how the British fought so hard against ethnically similar Germans who had no quarrel with them and then turned around and allowed their replacement by utterly alien blacks.

There was no need for either in Britain prior to the arrival of blacks.

    They had no political power.

    They could not stop it.

The system of government they lived under is: “elective oligarchy”. (Parliamentary – committee of elected dictators).

US subjects also have no political power.

The system of government they live under is an “elective dictatorship”. (a Prez with real power).

In neither case are they citizens.

    They are powerless tools.

  12. IOW, London’s version of NYC’s Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The stabbings are truly a product of diversity, the acid-throwing too, albeit more concentrated in its origins.

Does molarity apply to the concentration of a cultural group as well?

New York has an annual West Indian Day carnival too, at about the same time. Last year there were a couple of stabbings but it seems almost sedate compared to London’s version.

  17. @Jivilov

You already have them in, showing you how not to …

  18. anon[146] • Disclaimer says:

Pretty lame comparison since your example was in the 1880’s. Still don’t see how adding a large black criminal presence helps. At least black crime could have been prevented, by preventing blacks from arriving. Crime from an indigenous source is another matter.
