I find it harder and harder to watch passing events without Mike Judge’s 2006 movie Idiocracy coming to mind.
That’s especially the case with politics. Politicians have always said dumb things, of course; but in between the dumb things they generally, once in a while, said sensible, interesting, or thought-provoking things, too—occasionally even memorable things. Today it seems to be all dumb, wall-to-wall dumb, sea-to-shining-sea stupidity.
Case in point: Joe Biden’s speech about voting rights in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 13. Here’s the CNBC video:
I listened to all nineteen minutes of it, with the idea to do a thorough tossing and goring. However, Pat Buchanan has beat me to it. He wrote:
Republicans seek to deny “full and free and fair elections” and are engaged in “the most un-American thing that any of us can imagine, the most undemocratic, the most unpatriotic.”
Un-American? Undemocratic? Unpatriotic?
When Sen. Joseph McCarthy challenged the patriotism of Truman Democrats in such terms in the 1950s, he was censured by the Senate.
Is Biden really saying that minor alterations in election laws, all of which would have to pass muster with federal courts and the Supreme Court, represent an existential threat to our republic?
This is beyond hyperbole. It is ridiculous. It is absurd.
Such hype is a measure of just how far out of touch with the real world the rhetoric of our reigning elites has drifted.
I’m not going to compete with the master. I’ll just throw out a few random comments.
- Joe plumbed the deepest depths of idiocracy at 16m19s:
The assault on free and fair elections is just such a threat—literally. I’ve said it before. We’re facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War. That’s not hyperbole: since the Civil War.
In fact, as even some institutional never-Trump Republicans were moved to point out, that is a textbook instance of hyperbole [Sorry, Mr. President: The ‘fight’ for voter rights is nothing like the Civil War, by Rich Lowry, NY Post, July 16, 2021].
In saying, “That’s not hyperbole,” the President said a really dumb, stupid thing, inviting mockery from any literate person.
- Perhaps Biden, or whoever writes his speeches, just learned the word “hyperbole” and has taken a fancy to it. He actually used it twice in this speech, the first time at 52s in, quote:
Twenty-twenty election … It’s not hyperbole to say the most examined and fullest expression of the will of the people in the history of this nation.
Well, again, it is hyperbole to say that. Last November’s election was a ramshackle affair, mainly because of disruptions due to the covid pandemic. We’ve had much better-run and more credible elections. Does anyone not think so?
That bit of the speech doesn’t attain quite the lightless depths of dumbassery as the previous one, but it’s pretty darn stupid.
- When he wasn’t saying dumb things, the President was telling lies.
He said, for example, that women were denied the vote until the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.
Not true: women got the vote in Wyoming fifty-one years before that, in 1869, closely followed by Utah, then Colorado and Idaho. Every smart high-schooler knows this stuff.
- What wasn’t dumb or false was just embarrassing: fake indignation, descents into inaudible mumblings, threadbare clichés. Biden Who-We-Ared us twice (14m26s, 15m31s).
- It wasn’t hard to see what psychologists call projection, too:
We’re going to face a new test in 2022, a new wave of unprecedented voter suppression and raw and sustained election subversion …
Translation: We in the Regime are really, really worried that voters will vote the wrong way next year.
We all know what this is about. It’s not about 2022 or 2020, it’s about 2016. That election was a terrific psychic shock to the Ruling Class, a nine on the political Richter Scale.
The Regime was smug; they were confident; they had one of their own on the Democratic ticket, a reliable bot for the academic-military-technocratic-intelligence-media-financial elites. The 2016 election was lined up nicely, all according to plan…then suddenly, from out of right field, came this wild man, this maverick, destroying all the Ruling Class plans.

Re Pat Buchanan and the excerpt you posted from him: I really like the guy and have since he was a talking head back in the day. He’s a true Conservative, and I wish he’d gone farther and gotten nominated in ’96 at least. However, this guy is just plain too old-fashioned and nice to understand what the ctrl-left is up to.
It is NOT absurd of them to SAY this. They are NOT out of touch. This guy doesn’t understand the mentality of the modern left. They are not Tip O’Neils and Pat Moynihans, reaching across the aisle, debating civilly in front of the American people. It’s not 1980 anymore.
The people who set the old senile Biden up to this know quite well that the protests, rioting and temporary fun spent in the “People’s House” on Jan. 6th were absolutely no real threat and, except for the murder of Ashli Babbitt by Michael Leroy Byrd, a very peaceful event compared to hundreds of riots and looting events done by black thugs and antifa Commies that went on the previous year.
The people coming up with this hyperbole know what Biden is saying is absurd on it’s face. It’s not absurd that they use this rhetoric though. They know they are lying absurdly. They know that all the sane and Conservative American people know that they are lying absurdly. They don’t care. The ctrl-left will keep up with this lying because people don’t do enough about it. The good people who had a good time on January 6th are still in jail, being treated harshly, as if they were America’s enemies.

Uh, it’s been “examined” because it was incredibly close in certain states and pretty obviously bogus. There’s like, digital images of it happening in Atlanta. Naturally, you’ve fought it every step of the way.
Maybe I’m too optimistic but I really think more and more people are sensing there is something really wrong with the Democratic Party. Bad enough that they have a mumbling stumblebum president and a grotesque harridan as Speaker but their policies make no sense and are economically ruinous. “Green New Deal”? Really. You can’t wish EVs into being by banning ICE and fossil fuels. People live in the here and now and for the foreseeable future there is no way to make people buy an EV and spend half an hour charging it if they can find a charging station. California can’t even provide power for people to run their washing machines and microwaves so where is the electricity to come from to charge millions of new EVs? Everything else they promote is just ‘Free’ money which most people understand is not possible.
Then there is the two tiered justice system. How in the world can Hunter Biden not be under arrest while the CFO of Trump’s real estate company is being prosecuted for receiving company provided tuition benefits for his kids. You don’t have to be Trump voter to know that there is something seriously wrong with the FBI.
Given redistricting and the normal loss of seats for the Democrats in 2022 we should see the GOP pickup 50 or so House seats. If the bottom falls out of this Potemkin economy over the next year it could be even more. Getting the Senate back looks reasonable too. That will put paid to the ‘Biden Administration’
One other thing to keep an eye on. The California recall elections is September 14th. That is not a good time of year for Newsom. Its heatwave, wildfire and blackout season in California. Lets hope all three are occuring with a vengeance right as the vote takes place.

I was amused at Biden’s comment about his not using hyperbole, because hyperbole accurately describes Biden’s whole style of speaking. Listen to him during the Clarence Thomas hearings. After such events, trained, expert climatologists perform “attribution” analysis to try to discern how much of the event can be attributed to weather, and how much was climate, and how much was weather worsened by climate. Society has reached the point where any untrained woke opinion is equal to a trained opinion. And, Biden + Facebook are well on their way to banning scientific and rational viewpoints that do not fit the woke narrative. Anyway, regarding Newsom, he has the jaw and hair to survive the recall, no matter what.

Now, it is true that an honest count meant Drumpf would win by a giant landslide as he was running against the most hated human (well, maybe human) on earth whom not even lesbians would vote in. The months long riots by BLM and antifa was designed to galvanize blacks against Trump and convince suburban soccer moms that things would only get back to normal if they ousted Trump. Moderates broke for Biden this election so the strategy worked. Trump alienated a critical 1-2% of his base by endless pandering to blacks and Hispanics.
They didn’t put all their eggs in one basket and the strategy was definitely multi-pronged.
The Jewish led radical left will never relinquish the power they now have. They may lose one or both chambers of Congress in 2022 but demographics ensure they’ll retake and keep Congress later this decade probably forever.
