[Excerpted from the latest Radio Derb, now available exclusively through VDARE.com]

I find it harder and harder to watch passing events without Mike Judge’s 2006 movie Idiocracy coming to mind.

That’s especially the case with politics. Politicians have always said dumb things, of course; but in between the dumb things they generally, once in a while, said sensible, interesting, or thought-provoking things, too—occasionally even memorable things. Today it seems to be all dumb, wall-to-wall dumb, sea-to-shining-sea stupidity.

Case in point: Joe Biden’s speech about voting rights in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 13. Here’s the CNBC video:

I listened to all nineteen minutes of it, with the idea to do a thorough tossing and goring. However, Pat Buchanan has beat me to it. He wrote:

Republicans seek to deny “full and free and fair elections” and are engaged in “the most un-American thing that any of us can imagine, the most undemocratic, the most unpatriotic.”

Un-American? Undemocratic? Unpatriotic?

When Sen. Joseph McCarthy challenged the patriotism of Truman Democrats in such terms in the 1950s, he was censured by the Senate.

Is Biden really saying that minor alterations in election laws, all of which would have to pass muster with federal courts and the Supreme Court, represent an existential threat to our republic?

This is beyond hyperbole. It is ridiculous. It is absurd.

Such hype is a measure of just how far out of touch with the real world the rhetoric of our reigning elites has drifted.

I’m not going to compete with the master. I’ll just throw out a few random comments.

  • Joe plumbed the deepest depths of idiocracy at 16m19s:

The assault on free and fair elections is just such a threat—literally. I’ve said it before. We’re facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War. That’s not hyperbole: since the Civil War.

In fact, as even some institutional never-Trump Republicans were moved to point out, that is a textbook instance of hyperbole [Sorry, Mr. President: The ‘fight’ for voter rights is nothing like the Civil War, by Rich Lowry, NY Post, July 16, 2021].

In saying, “That’s not hyperbole,” the President said a really dumb, stupid thing, inviting mockery from any literate person.

  • Perhaps Biden, or whoever writes his speeches, just learned the word “hyperbole” and has taken a fancy to it. He actually used it twice in this speech, the first time at 52s in, quote:

Twenty-twenty election … It’s not hyperbole to say the most examined and fullest expression of the will of the people in the history of this nation.

Well, again, it is hyperbole to say that. Last November’s election was a ramshackle affair, mainly because of disruptions due to the covid pandemic. We’ve had much better-run and more credible elections. Does anyone not think so?

That bit of the speech doesn’t attain quite the lightless depths of dumbassery as the previous one, but it’s pretty darn stupid.

  • When he wasn’t saying dumb things, the President was telling lies.

He said, for example, that women were denied the vote until the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.

Not true: women got the vote in Wyoming fifty-one years before that, in 1869, closely followed by Utah, then Colorado and Idaho. Every smart high-schooler knows this stuff.

  • What wasn’t dumb or false was just embarrassing: fake indignation, descents into inaudible mumblings, threadbare clichés. Biden Who-We-Ared us twice (14m26s, 15m31s).
  • It wasn’t hard to see what psychologists call projection, too:

We’re going to face a new test in 2022, a new wave of unprecedented voter suppression and raw and sustained election subversion …

Translation: We in the Regime are really, really worried that voters will vote the wrong way next year.

We all know what this is about. It’s not about 2022 or 2020, it’s about 2016. That election was a terrific psychic shock to the Ruling Class, a nine on the political Richter Scale.

ORDER IT NOW

The Regime was smug; they were confident; they had one of their own on the Democratic ticket, a reliable bot for the academic-military-technocratic-intelligence-media-financial elites. The 2016 election was lined up nicely, all according to plan…then suddenly, from out of right field, came this wild man, this maverick, destroying all the Ruling Class plans.

Everything out of the Deep State since November 2016—everything from the big federal power centers, the universities and law schools and military staff colleges, the broadsheet newspapers and TV channels, Hollywood and the big internet companies, the FBI and the CIA and the NSA and the so-called Justice Department—everything has been said, done, written and broadcast with the sole aim of making sure that 2016 never happens again.

And that’s not hyperbole.

John Derbyshire [email him] writes an incredible amount on all sorts of subjects for all kinds of outlets. (This no longer includes National Review, whose editors had some kind of tantrum and fired him.) He is the author of We Are Doomed: Reclaiming Conservative Pessimism and several other books. He has had two books published by VDARE.com com: FROM THE DISSIDENT RIGHT (also available in Kindle) and FROM THE DISSIDENT RIGHT II: ESSAYS 2013.

  1. 2016 won’t happen again because there will never again be a legit election….the paranoid small hats won’t allow it.

So…we now live under a neo-Bolshevik regime that plans to stay in power by any means necessary, including the imprisonment of dissidents (and the usual marxist agenda includes mass murder)

  3. “Fool me twice, shame on me” has been abolished. Serial non stop lying, omitting, distracting, has become the fully acceptable norm.
Christian honesty demands the WHOLE truth, with full disclosure; so does scientific honesty: no deceptive distortions and omissions or hidden conflicts of interest

We MUST return to old fashioned morality, full honesty, and point out, mercilessly, all lies and omissions.

That starts with rejecting dishonest vocabulary, like the “liberals” and “progressives”, that are neither liberal nor yield meaningful progress.

  4. Lies have built upon lies, built an entire dishonest edifice. The fundamental lie is mandatory cover-up of black crime and black IQ. Denial of visible individual personality differences, and amply proven group differences in behavior, criminality and cognitive capacity.

Black Lives Matter and CRT are built upon enormous edifices of lies that can be torn down with a TruthRevolution with demands for whole truth and FULL DISCLOSURE

  7. Re Pat Buchanan and the excerpt you posted from him: I really like the guy and have since he was a talking head back in the day. He’s a true Conservative, and I wish he’d gone farther and gotten nominated in ’96 at least. However, this guy is just plain too old-fashioned and nice to understand what the ctrl-left is up to.

This is beyond hyperbole. It is ridiculous. It is absurd.

Such hype is a measure of just how far out of touch with the real world the rhetoric of our reigning elites has drifted.

It is NOT absurd of them to SAY this. They are NOT out of touch. This guy doesn’t understand the mentality of the modern left. They are not Tip O’Neils and Pat Moynihans, reaching across the aisle, debating civilly in front of the American people. It’s not 1980 anymore.

The people who set the old senile Biden up to this know quite well that the protests, rioting and temporary fun spent in the “People’s House” on Jan. 6th were absolutely no real threat and, except for the murder of Ashli Babbitt by Michael Leroy Byrd, a very peaceful event compared to hundreds of riots and looting events done by black thugs and antifa Commies that went on the previous year.

The people coming up with this hyperbole know what Biden is saying is absurd on it’s face. It’s not absurd that they use this rhetoric though. They know they are lying absurdly. They know that all the sane and Conservative American people know that they are lying absurdly. They don’t care. The ctrl-left will keep up with this lying because people don’t do enough about it. The good people who had a good time on January 6th are still in jail, being treated harshly, as if they were America’s enemies.

They are enemies of the left though. I have a blog post coming on this: The ctrl-left thinks they are in the final mopping-up stage. They have become very bold over the last couple of years. The only thing keeping us from Pol Pot world is a lot of rifles. Make sure to keep them handy.

Maybe I’m too optimistic but I really think more and more people are sensing there is something really wrong with the Democratic Party. Bad enough that they have a mumbling stumblebum president and a grotesque harridan as Speaker but their policies make no sense and are economically ruinous. “Green New Deal”? Really. You can’t wish EVs into being by banning ICE and fossil fuels. People live in the here and now and for the foreseeable future there is no way to make people buy an EV and spend half an hour charging it if they can find a charging station. California can’t even provide power for people to run their washing machines and microwaves so where is the electricity to come from to charge millions of new EVs? Everything else they promote is just ‘Free’ money which most people understand is not possible.

Then there is the two tiered justice system. How in the world can Hunter Biden not be under arrest while the CFO of Trump’s real estate company is being prosecuted for receiving company provided tuition benefits for his kids. You don’t have to be Trump voter to know that there is something seriously wrong with the FBI.

Given redistricting and the normal loss of seats for the Democrats in 2022 we should see the GOP pickup 50 or so House seats. If the bottom falls out of this Potemkin economy over the next year it could be even more. Getting the Senate back looks reasonable too. That will put paid to the ‘Biden Administration’

One other thing to keep an eye on. The California recall elections is September 14th. That is not a good time of year for Newsom. Its heatwave, wildfire and blackout season in California. Lets hope all three are occuring with a vengeance right as the vote takes place.

Reality isn’t important. It’s all about the Narrative and the Grift. You can achieve what you want to to achieve simply by repeating mantras over and over, no matter how detached from objective reality. The U.S. can “create our own reality,” as degenerate neocon Karl Rove famously quipped (probably back when John Derbyshire was writing for the neocon National Review).

The Establishment learned about “creating our own reality” from history’s ultimate grifters, ((the Jews)). None of it meets Western scientific standards, of course. That’s because ((the Jews)) aren’t of the West. They’re of the Zion fantasy.

Israel show’s what happens when the Zion Grift runs dry and comes up against red hot reality.

What does John Derbyshire propose we do about ((the Jews)) and their lies? One suspects he’s living in his own British Grifter fantasy world, incapable of confronting the Zion Grift because they’re too much alike, ever since ((the Jews)) infiltrated the British elite and began putting them under their demented spell.

  15. SafeNow says:

Mr. Derb notes that Trump won, by being a “wild man.” The Dems learned that they had better emulate this. I have posted that Americans embrace what has been called “the con style”; the style of the snake-oil salesman. Cuomo rode it to an 82% favorability rating. Lesson learned. Achmed sums it up perfectly:

“The people coming up with this hyperbole know what Biden is saying is absurd on it’s face. It’s not absurd that they use this rhetoric though.”

If bland elite academic scientists had had the courage to confront Fauci, would they have been a match for his snake-oil, con, absurd style? Will DeSantis, measured, calm, and rational, be a match for the con style? Will he be a match for what Philip Roth called “the indigenous American berserk”?

  16. I was amused at Biden’s comment about his not using hyperbole, because hyperbole accurately describes Biden’s whole style of speaking. Listen to him during the Clarence Thomas hearings. He sounded like an old time corrupt politician even then!! Yes, I’m talking about President Corn pop. Just my opinion but I”ve often wondered if he was one of those guys with an Irish background that secretly has a chip on his shoulder against the Anglo/British elite that founded the country and he needs to constantly prove he is up to snuff??

No floods please, just unremitting high temperatures that dry up reservoirs and reduce hydro electric output to zero. Then a severe heat wave in early September to be followed by severe Santa Ana winds that set off firestorms across the state that leave the residents choking from the air pollution and the smokey haze cutting solar power output to nothing. Then as the fires spread into the cities and homes begin to burn the lack of electric power causes municipal water districts to lose water pressure and fire departments have to flee for their lives as the cities burn.

A soot covered Gavin Newsom can then appear barely visible through the haze outside the inferno that was the state capitol and give his concession speech.

If these natural disasters were to occur, they would be attributed to “climate change.” Of course. But what’s new is that anyone can fo it. A few nights ago, BBC News featured an expert to opine on the European floods. She (of course) is a psychologist. The latter part of her remarks dealt with the emotional toll; fair enough. But in the first part, she was explaining the meteorology/climatology. After such events, trained, expert climatologists perform “attribution” analysis to try to discern how much of the event can be attributed to weather, and how much was climate, and how much was weather worsened by climate. Society has reached the point where any untrained woke opinion is equal to a trained opinion. And, Biden + Facebook are well on their way to banning scientific and rational viewpoints that do not fit the woke narrative. Anyway, regarding Newsom, he has the jaw and hair to survive the recall, no matter what.

Women in New Jersey got the vote in the 1790s. Nobody counts this because (a) it happened by accident and (b) the property requirement was still in force, thus married women were automatically disqualified.

Wyoming’s women were the first to vote in federal elections, in 1890, followed by Colorado’s and Utah’s before the century was out. As for territorial elections, Wyoming passed the law first, but Utah beat them to an actual election. So the Beehive gets the prize.

During the First World War Sylvia Pankhurst was horrified to see her mother, Emmeline, and her sister Christabel become enthusiastic supporters of the war drive and campaign in favour of military conscription. She was opposed to the war, and was publicly attacked in the newly renamed WSPU newspaper Britannia.

On December 8, Rankin was the only member of either house of Congress to vote against the declaration of war on Japan. Hisses could be heard in the gallery as she cast her vote; several colleagues, including Rep. (later Senator) Everett Dirksen, asked her to change it to make the resolution unanimous—or at very least, to abstain—but she refused. “As a woman I can’t go to war,” she said, “and I refuse to send anyone else.”

After the vote, a crowd of reporters pursued Rankin into a cloakroom. There, she was forced to take refuge in a phone booth until Capitol Police arrived to escort her to her office, where she was inundated with angry telegrams and phone calls. One cable, from her brother, read, “Montana is 100 percent against you”. A wire service photo of Rankin sequestered in the phone booth, calling for assistance, appeared the following day in newspapers across the country.

While her action was widely ridiculed in the press, Progressive leader William Allen White, writing in the Kansas Emporia Gazette, acknowledged her courage in taking it:

Probably a hundred men in Congress would have liked to do what she did. Not one of them had the courage to do it. The Gazette entirely disagrees with the wisdom of her position. But Lord, it was a brave thing! And its bravery someway discounted its folly. When, in a hundred years from now, courage, sheer courage based upon moral indignation is celebrated in this country, the name of Jeannette Rankin, who stood firm in folly for her faith, will be written in monumental bronze, not for what she did, but for the way she did it.

Men should stand up for the women– the ladies— who stand up for them.

Joe’s real speech before saner minds edited it for him: My boyfriend in the CCP convinced me to get a face lift from a chink plastic surgeon and I ended up with these squinty Chinese eyes. It’s worth it though cause I’m happier getting boned by his tiny little weiner than I was by Obama’s Oscar Meyer for those last 8 years.

  53. @FitsMan

I put my point very badly. It was in no way a judgement on the Irish people as a whole. But I was pointing out a certain “type” I have often crossed paths with.

You just described Trump’s future real estate deals.

  55. Tony B. says:

Can’t anyone see what happened in the 2016 election?
ALL listed candidates, no matter the party, are owned by the Rothschild cabal, which, long ago, bought the parties.
It was Hillary’s turn, Drumph was second string. And the election day predictably started with Hillary being given the usual “landslide.”
But, totally unexpectedly, someone, somewhere, began dumping political insider info called “Pizza Gate” and it kept getting hotter and hotter with the Podesta brothers, Clinton Foundation, Obama, etc. and was headed right to the top, the cabal.
Media, also totally Rothschild cabal owned, soon got new orders to put in the second string instead of Hillary, and suddenly, states already conceded to her with hardly any votes counted, began to be said to be hedging, the talking heads extremely upset, some of those traitorous bastards and bitches actually crying while changing the day’s script. As the vote turned toward Drumpf, so the pizza gate stuff slowed and/or stopped.
(It wasn’t until the next day that the media, in union, stole the patriot phrase “FAKE NEWS” and aimed it at all the pedo, child sacrifice to Satan, et al, from then on, since ignoring it was not going to work.)
Now, it is true that an honest count meant Drumpf would win by a giant landslide as he was running against the most hated human (well, maybe human) on earth whom not even lesbians would vote in. Moreover, Drumpf was allowed to broadcast some truths, verboten in the media, as to what was actually going on in the country, a real breath of fresh air which suckered in millions, now known as “Trumpers” or some such.
But there hasn’t been honest vote counts in this country since computer voting began. Nor anywhere else using them. And since at least 1991, when a braggart slipped up and gave info that “Americans are too stupid to vote for president and when WE put Hillary in, she will declare martial law,” the true intent WAS to give her the office. She blew it with the Clinton Foundation world-wide child trafficking and blackmail operation. Too greedy. Too arrogant.
    Unintended consequences?

  56. @Patrick in SC

I despise Trump, but less than Bidet, but the election was so BLATANTLY stolen that it is almost funny. Our Moral Values at their finest. No wonder humanity has no great future.

Anthropogenic climate deastabilisation is rendering northern Mexico uninhabitable, so they are moving. I’d head for Canada myself.

That’d be great. Need any help packing?

  59. Biden’s sickening and that red haired press secretary is stupid and arrogant, a bad combination if there ever was one. The Trump press secretaries could run rings around her. They were much smarter.

  60. KenH says:

The Jews, their goy proxies and elements of the intelligence complex did everything they could to drive Trump from office and failed. Does anyone think they were just going to cross their fingers and hope for the best in 2020? Vote tampering was their last option and they exercised it.

The release of COVID and highly inflated death count all throughout 2020 was designed to make the Trump admin look weak and incompetent. Shutdowns were done to crash the economy. The months long riots by BLM and antifa was designed to galvanize blacks against Trump and convince suburban soccer moms that things would only get back to normal if they ousted Trump. Moderates broke for Biden this election so the strategy worked. Trump alienated a critical 1-2% of his base by endless pandering to blacks and Hispanics.

They didn’t put all their eggs in one basket and the strategy was definitely multi-pronged.

The Jewish led radical left will never relinquish the power they now have. They may lose one or both chambers of Congress in 2022 but demographics ensure they’ll retake and keep Congress later this decade probably forever. But they will fight to keep the executive branch by any and all means necessary since this enables them to install radical left wing judges who will rubber stamp Bolshevism.

(((They))) stole one election in 2020 and got away with it and will try to steal another in 2024.

  61. @SafeNow

Society has reached the point where any untrained woke opinion is equal to a trained opinion.

The reverse is also true, and even more disturbing:

A trained opinion is equal to an untrained woke opinion.

Scared of what? Scared of who, Derb?

The Republican coalition is comprised of cucks, bourgeois banking wall streeters, para military civil servants and totally-down-on-their-luck white proles. Does this coalition inspire respect/fear in anybody?

Furthermore, this coalition is outnumbered and the gap between the left and themselves grows with a white octogenarian planted in the ground everyday. 1965 has done its work.

You are too optimistic Derb, we really are doomed.

If 200,000 gun owners lay siege to the swamp, its all over for FEDGOV.
They’re scared sh*tless that that could happen.

January 6th put the fear in them. White people having had enough.
The yids will flee like the cowards they are in reality.

There is no coherent strategy to these idiots in the swamp.
Its a pyramid scheme where they don’t want to be around for when they run out.

They blew their load in Iraq and Afghanistan.
    Sooperpower no moar.

Between Bush League and Braindead Biden, they got nothing.
Its all unraveling. Civil War is a best case scenario for these morons.

Anything to hide the fact they’re broke and running on fumes.
They’re about to up the debt to pay their debts.

    Pyramid schemes always blow up.
Civil War might provide some cover for the crooks that stole Trillions.

Guess they are thinking Latinos will help on that front….

  66. He said, for example, that women were denied the vote until the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.

Not true: women got the vote in Wyoming fifty-one years before that, in 1869, closely followed by Utah, then Colorado and Idaho.

And it has become obvious that this travesty was part of what has led us over the last century to the disaster in which we find ourselves enmired today.
