Joe Biden launched with a lie. He made his candidacy official with a three-and-a-half-minute video that leaned heavily on the disturbances in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017. “Charlottesville, Virginia” are actually the first two words of the video.
The other words are largely pasted together from CultMarx boilerplate phrases. The Obama-ish phrase “who we are,” for example, which is now so threadbare even Leftists wince at it, turned up three times, along with “America’s an idea,” and the obligatory reference to “Europe in the 1930s.”
Why is it these Lefty orators never throw in a mention of St Petersburg in 1917? Hard to figure.
And of course Biden’s video didn’t lean on the Charlottesville events so much as on the Narrative of them constructed and broadcast by CultMarx media outlets, then re-broadcast and re-re-broadcast in a determined and successful effort to smother any account of what really took place.
We’ve offered ample coverage of what actually happened at Charlottesville here on VDARE.com, under the tag “Charlottesville Narrative Collapse.”
That tag is a bit optimistic: The CultMarx narrative of Charlottesville is triumphant in major media and probably among the public at large. That narrative has only collapsed among the tiny sliver of the population who have read all 207 pages of the Heaphy Report [PDF |alternate ]or the objective summaries of the report offered at websites like VDARE.com. Certainly Joe Biden had no qualms about retailing the dominant narrative in all its brazen mendacity.
And that’s when we heard the words of the President of the United States that stunned the world and shocked the conscience of this nation. He said there were, quote, “some very fine people on both sides.”
Very fine people on both sides? With those words, the President of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it.
I don’t myself buy the “moral equivalence” argument. One side in the Charlottesville fracas had the sole intention to hold a legally-permitted rally in defense of a historic statue. The other side had the intention to disrupt that rally violently. Local politicians and law-enforcement encouraged and assisted the latter faction. Moral equivalence? I don’t see it.
What did the President actually have in mind when he spoke the words Joe Biden’s quoting? Here’s what Trump said:

Plainly what was in the President’s mind there was the idea that there were some Nazi nutcases mixed in with the defenders of that statue; and there were some anarchist nutcases mixed in with the clergymen and cat ladies who initiated the violence.
The fact remains, however, that the first group, Nazis and all, had lawful permits to be where they were and do what they were doing, and the second group didn’t. But the authorities let that second group attack the first anyway.
So Joe Biden, this republic’s leading argument for congressional term limits—he’s been warming seats in Washington, D.C. since the Nixon administration and has already run for President twice, the first time 32 years ago—Joe Biden has launched his third campaign with a bare-faced lie.
Not much to be surprised about there: He launched that first campaign with an act of bare-faced plagiarism.
Mendacity, plagiarism: now there is moral equivalence.
It really does seem to be crazy time in the Democratic Party.
Not that Democratic policies are crazy: For sure some of them are—Open Borders, free college, banning cars and planes—but I doubt anyone much takes those seriously. When you consider what we might reasonably anticipate actually getting from an actual Democratic administration, it only differs in shades of gray from what we have currently under President Trump.
This is the age of the Uniparty. Heck, the borders are more open now than they were under Obama.
No, the real craziness is in the poll numbers for Democratic Presidential candidates. You’d think that by now we would have passed into the age of woke millennial voters driving those numbers, calling for youth, vigor, and novelty.
Yet when I brought up the Morning Consult website on Friday—that’s a basic, pretty reliable polling outfit sampling fourteen thousand likely Democratic primary voters nationwide—who should I see grinning out at me from the top of the poll but Joe Biden, favored by thirty percent of pollees, and Bernie Sanders, with 24 percent.
Yes, Joe Biden’s out in the lead there, favored by thirty percent of likely Democratic voters nationwide, thirty-four percent in the early-primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Nevada, when the actual voting starts to make headlines a few months from now.
All those millennial-friendly wunderkinder I’ve been reading about are way behind the two big kahunas. None of them even breaks ten percent, although Peter Buttigieg is close at nine percent. Of the seventeen candidates listed—yes, we’re up to seventeen, with a year and a half to polling day—only six break five percent.
A lot of the explanation is just name recognition. Thirty-six percent of respondents hadn’t even heard of Mayor Buttigieg. If you are one of those who never heard of him and would like to get up to speed, I offered some extended commentary here last week.
Those of us who watch politics for a living tend to forget how little space it occupies in the minds of normal people, thank goodness. Most Americans find their families, their friends, their jobs, their hobbies, and the fortunes of their local sports teams more interesting than politics.
Even in these politically-fevered times, voter turnout in presidential elections struggles to break sixty percent. In last Fall’s midterms, turnout broke fifty percent for the first time since … Can you guess? When was the previous year more than half of eligible voters turned out for a midterm?
You could win a bar bet on this one: It was 1914.
Nevertheless, it’s still astonishing that the dynamic, progressive, forward-looking Democratic Party, which is so strongly favored by smartphone-addicted millennials with their untucked shirts, body piercings, skintight jeans, and degrees in Gender Studies, should have as its way most-strongly-favored presidential candidates two white guys whose ages on being elected, if either were to be elected, would be 78 or 79.
Should we mind these guys’ ages? Eh, it’s a trade-off. The great rule of life in these matters is the one that Frenchman gave us all those centuries ago: Si jeunesse savait, si vieillesse pouvait—”If youth only knew; if age only could.” When you’re young and full of vigor you can accomplish anything, but you don’t know squat. When you’re old you’re loaded up with wisdom, but it’s hard to get much done.
There’s a lot of individual variation, of course. I find it hard to believe, though, that most Americans, let alone most millennials, really want an octogenarian President.
If I’m right about that, the DNC needs to put more effort into getting name recognition for the thirty- and forty-something candidates further down the current polls.

It is a privilege to see a sophisticated Confuse and Conquer Jew like Ron Unz singlehandedly tie up hundreds if not thousands of White Trashionalists at once. His strategy is particularly elegant when one observes the chess pieces that Ron advances in the correct sequence.
Step 1 : Make a website that WNs use (since they can never build anything on their own). Let any and all anti-Semitic slurs stand on the website to make WNs complacent and even keyboard-courageous.
Step 2 : Recruit the 2-3 intelligent authors that WNs read (Sailer, Derbyshire, etc.) who happen to bad at making money, so that they write for very little payment.
Step 3 : After a few years, start pushing for normalization of Hispanics (even if illegal; especially if illegal).
Step 4 : Deploy someone like Fred Reed to generate even more confusion, and then someone like Philip Giraldi to make anti-Semites feel at ease about saying anything.
It works…and it is a lesson in asymmetrical attrition warfare by a sophisticated Confuse and Conquer Jew. Remember, he got handed an unprestigious assignment from Jewish central command. Harvey Weinstein got to have sex with the prettiest actresses for 30 years, George Soros gets to be a billionaire, etc. But someone has to do the less glamorous work, and Runzie Baby is equal to the task.
Ron Unz has said about 95% of this site disputes the fact that the real division is black vs non-black. I am among the 5% that agree with him (although I am more conservative than him, since I think there should be only skilled, legal immigration, not unskilled and certainly never illegal).
Now, here is the thing. Those who talk about Auschwitz, lampshades, and soap never get moderated here, but those who agree with Ron Unz do. He will even get angry with those who agree with him too vocally, even as any and all anti-Israel content is fully welcome.
Why?
It is because he thinks it will expose his game of 4D chess from the perception of a 70-IQ WN. But I guarantee that it cannot, since the typical White Trashionalist is far below the IQ threshold where they can observe the many pieces in motion. I can describe Ron’s plan in full detail (and I fully support it), without any risk of the WNs figuring out that they are the frog and the temperature is already up to about 160 degrees F.
I am strongly in favor of what Ron Unz is doing. His recent ‘An Open Letter….’ article was a trial balloon through which he tested the speed at which the temperature can be increased under the immerse-in-water frog. I look forward to seeing him go for the kill (i.e. 212 degrees F) by around 2023 or so.

I posted an overview of the full actual numbers for Nov. 2018 at Steve Sailer’s blog three months ago (#15):
Another possible turnout number for 2018 is <45% (setting denominator to "all adults, excluding illegals." If including illegals, even high-turnout 2018 could be potentially pushing down strongly towards 40% of all adults resident on U.S. soil, depending on how many illegals there really are.)
So it’s clear there is a problem with turnout calculations, especially for historical comparisons, and that is the problem of setting the denominator and having consistent data for it (All adults? Non-felons? Citizens? known, legal residents? Registered voters? Persons eligible to vote regardless of registration? What about citizens abroad, count them or not?).
All the above being complicated by different state-level laws and ways of recording data. And then, for historical comparison’s sake, should non-voting Blacks in the South in the now-distant past have been counted or not? What about women in the early years of partial (and then full) enfranchisement, when their voting rate was low?
To a lesser extent there are also numerator problems (validly cast/counted votes, or all votes?), which could cause a shift on the order of 1%.
It may be (and probably is, IMO) that 2018’s true turnout was ~equal to the 1962, 1966, and 1970 midterm turnouts (those being 47-48%, as reported at the private USEP site) but for certain methodological differences on how the calculations are made and what data is available. In statistics-speak, anyway, we really cannot reject the null hypothesis that turnout was the same for 1962, 1966, 1970, and 2018, given our data uncertainties.
One maybe-surprising conclusion is that only one-in-six regular-midterm-non-voters switched to being a voter in 2018:
Going back to the 1970s and earlier, methodology becomes more and more shaky (as described above), with different states reporting turnout different ways, meaning we can only use these numbers as estimates or guideposts. I believe even the (privately run) USEP site stops making its turnout calculation that it considers exactly comparable to present-day data, before the 1980s, for lack of good and consistent data.

I actually thought that Spence was dead. He used to be a panelist on TV all the time. Wikipedia says that Spence never lost a criminal case – either as a defense lawyer or prosecutor. Why doesn’t a big name attorney take on Fields’ appeal? Are they all afraid?
It’s just a quibble, but your statement about voter turnout in mid-turn elections should really contain a caveat, or throw out some data. See, unless it was during wartime, there was a time that nobody remembers anymore when the Feral Gov’t wasn’t the powerful beast it is now. People did not see a reason to vote for one congressman (who represented maybe only 1/3 – 1/2 as many as he does now) when there wasn’t that much in their lives that the guy would effect one way or another. Now, THAT was a Republic!

if driving a car while hundreds and hundreds of armed maniacs are attacking said car and trying to drag you out of it, is going to do what James Fields did – drive through that mob and save their own life.
I’ve watched a LOT of video of this event. He could have reversed out of there before getting into the crowd. I’ve never seen any evidence he was attacked significantly until after the crash.
To be sure the crowd went after him with great enthusiasm after it happened, but he did not have to pile into the crowd. In fact, one photo I’ve seen seems to show his brake lights on while he’s still a half-block or so from the crowd, so presumably he either took his foot off the brake or hit the gas.
I also don’t think he was able to see the cars in the middle of the crowd, so he may have thought he could just sail through it and keep going.
I don’t know exactly what happened or what was going through his mind. But it’s clear to me he wasn’t really in grave danger until after the crash. He could have just reversed out of there, which is indeed what he did after the crash.
BTW, important safety tip. When attacking a vehicle that has just crashed into a car in front, do NOT stand behind the vehicle if it’s still operable!
I also thought it was quite amazing there weren’t more deaths. Some of those guys move really quickly!
