There seems to be a glaring illogic to official arguments about the need to vaccinate British children against Covid that no one in the corporate media wishes to highlight.

Days ago the British government’s experts on vaccinations, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, withstood strong political pressure and decided not to recommend vaccinating children aged between 12 and 15. That was because the JCVI concluded that vaccination could not be justified in the case of children on health grounds.

The implication was that the known health risks associated with vaccination for children – primarily from heart inflammation – outweighed the health benefits. The JCVI also indicated that there might be unknown, longer-term health risks too, given the lack of follow-up among young people and children who have already been vaccinated.

But while the JCVI defied the government, they did not entirely ignore the political demands of them. They offered the government’s four chief medical officers a get-out clause that could be exploited to rationalise the approval of child vaccinations: they conceded that vaccinations might offer other, non-health benefits.

Utilitarian arguments

Predictably, this utilitarian justification for child vaccinations has been seized on by the British government. Here is the Guardian uncritically regurgitating the official position:

There have also been concerns about the indirect effects of the virus on children. The biggest has been the disruption to schools, which had a severe impact on their mental and physical health, as well as their education.

That, essentially, is why the four CMOs have said children aged between 12 and 15 should be eligible for the jab.

They believe that being vaccinated will reduce the risk of disruption to school and extracurricular activities and the effect of this on their mental health and wellbeing.

Let’s unpack that argument.

Covid poses no serious threat to the overwhelming majority of children, the JCVI and the chief medical officers are agreed. (Those few children who are at risk can be vaccinated under existing rules.)

But, according to the government, Covid has inflicted physical, mental and educational suffering on children because classrooms had to be shut for prolonged periods to protect vulnerable adults in the period before the adult population could be vaccinated.

Now most adults, and almost all vulnerable adults, are vaccinated against Covid, offering them a significant degree of protection.

But still children need to be injected with a vaccine that may, on balance, do more harm to their health than good.

If this is the official argument, we should all be asking: Why?

Two scenarios

There are two potential scenarios for assessing this argument.

The first:

The vaccine works against transmission and severe illness in adults. Schools therefore no longer need to be shut down to protect the adult population. Adults are now largely safe – unless they have decided not to get vaccinated. And that, in turn, means that “indirect” harm to children’s mental and physical wellbeing caused by school closures should no longer be a consideration.

If this is the case, then there are no grounds – either health ones or indirect, non-health ones – to justify vaccinating children.

The second:

The vaccine doesn’t stop transmission and severe illness, but it reduces some transmission and mitigates the worst effects of Covid. This is what the evidence increasingly suggests.

If this is the case, then vaccinating children will not only fail to stop a proportion of them catching and transmitting Covid but it will also fail in its stated purpose: preventing the future closure of schools and the associated, indirect harms to children.

Worse, at the same time vaccination may increase children’s risk of damage to their health from the vaccine itself, as the JCVI’s original conclusion implies.

Speculative benefits

Neither scenario offers persuasive medical, or even non-medical, grounds for vaccinating children. A speculative, marginal benefit to the adult population is being prioritised over the rights of children to enjoy bodily autonomy and to avoid being subjected to medical experiments that may have either short-term or long-term effects on their health.

Just to be clear, as the “follow the science” crowd prepare yet again to be outraged, these are not my arguments. They are implicit in the official reasoning of the experts assessing whether to vaccinate children. They have been ignored on political grounds, because the government would prefer to look like it is actively getting us “back to normal”, and because it has chosen to put all its eggs in the easy (and profitable) vaccine basket.

If vaccines are all that is needed to solve the pandemic, then there is no need to look at other things, such as the gradual dismantling of the National Health Service by successive governments, very much including the current one; our over-consumption economies; nutrient-poor diets promoted by the farming and food industries; and much else besides.

Unadulterated racism

There are, in fact, much more obvious, unequivocal reasons to oppose vaccinating children – aside from the matter that vaccination subordinates children’s health to the adult population’s wellbeing on the flimsiest of pretexts.

First, vaccination doses wasted on British children could be put to far better use vaccinating vulnerable populations in the Global South. There are good self-interested reasons for us to back this position, especially given the fact that the fight is against a global pandemic in a modern world that is highly interconnected.

But more altruistic – and ethical – concerns should also be at the forefront of discussions too. Our lives aren’t more important than those of Africans or Asians. To think otherwise – to imagine that we deserve a third or fourth booster shot or need to vaccinate children to reduce the risk of Covid deaths in the west to near-zero – is pure, unadulterated racism.

And second, a growing body of medical reseach indicates that natural immunity confers stronger, longer-lasting protection against Covid.

Given that the virus poses little medical threat to children, the evidence so far suggests they would be better off catching Covid, as apparently half of them already have.

ORDER IT NOW

That is both because it serves their own interests by developing in them better immunity against future, nastier variants; and because it serves the interests of the adults around them – assuming (and admittedly it’s a big assumption) that the goal here is not to have adults dependent on endless booster shots to prevent waning immunity and enrich Pfizer.

Worst of both worlds

By contrast, the approach the British government is pursuing – and most of the corporate media is cheerleading – is the worst of both worlds.

British officials want to treat Covid as a continuing menace to public health, one that apparently can never be eradicated. A state of permanent emergency means the government can accrue to itself ever increasing powers, including for surveillance, on the pretext that we are in an endless war against the virus.

But at the same time the government’s implicit “zero tolerance” approach to Covid – in this case, a futile ambition to prevent any hospitalisations or deaths from the virus in the UK – means that the interests of British children, and populations in foreign countries we helped to impoverish through our colonial history, can be sacrificed for the good of adults in rich western countries.

The combined effect of these two approaches is to foster a political climate in which western governments and the corporate media are better placed to replicate the colonial policy priorities they have traditionally pursued abroad but this time apply them to the home front.

The supposed war against the virus – a war that children apparently must be recruited to fight on our behalf – rather neatly echoes the earlier, now discredited and unravelling “war on terror”.

Both can be presented as threats to our civilisation. Both require the state to redirect vast resources to corporate elites (the “defence” industries and now Big Pharma). Both have led to widespread fear among the populace, making it more compliant. Both require a permanent state of emergency and the sacrifice of our liberties. Both have been promoted in terms of a bogus humanitarianism. And neither war can be won.

Dog eat dog

Recognising these parallels is not the same as denial, though the government and media have every interest to cultivate this as an assumption. There were and are terrorists, even if the term readily gets mangled to serve political agendas. And there is a dangerous virus that vulnerable populations need protection from.

But just as the “terror” threat arose in response to – and to mask – our arrogant, colonial control over, and plundering of, other people’s resources, so this pandemic threat appears to have arisen, in large part, from our arrogant invasion of every last habitat on the planet, and our ever less healthy, consumption-driven lifestyles.

At the beginning of the pandemic, I wrote an article that went viral called “A lesson coronavirus is about to teach the world“. In it, I argued that our capitalist societies, with their dog-eat-dog ideologies, were the least suited to deal with a health crisis that required solidarity, both local and global.

I noted that Donald Tump, then the US president, was trying to secure an early, exclusive deal for a “silver bullet” – a vaccine – whose first doses he planned to reserve for Americans as a vote-winner at home and then use as leverage over other states to reward those who complied with his, or possibly US, interests. The planet could be divided into friends and foes – those who received the vaccine and those who were denied it.

It was a typically Trumpian vanity project that he did not realise. But in many ways, it has come to pass in a different fashion and in ways that have the potential to be more dangerous than I could foresee.

Divide and rule

The vaccine has indeed been sold as a silver bullet, a panacea that lifts from our shoulders not just the burden of lockdowns and masks but the need for any reflection on what “normal life” means and whether we should want to return to it.

And just as Trump wanted to use vaccine distribution as a tool of divide-and-rule, the vaccination process itself has come to serve a similar end. With the quick roll-out of vaccines, our societies have almost immediately divided between those who demand vaccine passports and mandates as the price for inclusion and those who demand the protection of basic liberties and cultivation of social solidarity without conditions.

In popular discourse, of course, this is being spun as a fight between responsible vaxxers and irresponsible anti-vaxxers. That is more divide-and-rule nonsense. Those in favour of vaccination, and those who have been vaccinated, can be just as concerned about the direction we are heading in as the “anti-vaxxers”.

Fear has driven our division: between those who primarily fear the virus and those who primarily fear western elites whose authoritarian instincts are coming to the fore as they confront imminent economic and environmental crises they have no answers for.

Increasingly, where we stand on issues surrounding the pandemic has little to do with “the science” and relates chiefly to where each of us stands on that spectrum of fear.

Hoarding impulse

The vaccination of children highlights this most especially, which is why I have chosen to focus on it. We want children vaccinated not because the research suggests they need it or society benefits from it but because knowing they are vaccinated will still our fear of the virus a little more.

Similarly, we want foreigners denied the vaccine – and that is the choice we make when we prioritise our children being vaccinated and demand booster shots for ourselves – because that too will allay our fears.

We hoard the vaccinations, just as we once did toilet paper. We try to fortify our borders against the virus, just as we do against “immigrants”, even though the rational part of our brain knows that the virus will lap up on our shores, in new variants, unless poorer nations are in a position to vaccinate their populations too.

Our fears, the politicians’ power complexes and the corporations’ profit motives combine to fuel this madness. And in the process we intensify the dog-eat-dog ideology we call western civilisation.

We turn on each other, we prioritise ourselves over the foreigner, we set parent against child, we pit the vaccinated against the unvaccinated – all in the name of a bogus humanitarianism and solidarity.

The problem is that the vast majority still believe that the vax shots are a Covid IMMUNITY guarantee, despite breakthrough infections in the 20-30% range and numerous reports about how even vaxxed people harbor the live virus in their throats/noses and can transmit the virus to others.

So parents especially are still hoping (dreaming) to achieve Covid immunity for their precious progeny even though many news reports have [lately] emphasized that the mRNA/DNA vaccines were only designed to reduce the threat of serious illness, which kids rarely experience.

Another contributor to this problem is that the FDA approval of Pfizer’s COMIRNATY used the word “prevent” concerning Covid in the approval language, when it is patently clear that these shots do nothing of the sort. If they did prevent Covid, then there would not be any breakthrough infections!

This of course raises the question as to even if the FDA approval of COMIRNATY is even legal but that isn’t germane to this article.

News reports where and for what vaccines?

I’m mostly following the US, but just checked the AZ/Oxford testing clown show of four Phase III trials per the December 8th, 2020 paper in The Lancet, and it and the mRNA vaccines were measured against a primary endpoint of preventing symptomatic disease confirmed by RT-PCR testing. Janssen’s one jab is not designed to be the most effective vaccine, rather the most effective on jab vaccine, so that was a secondary endpoint, the primary was against “moderate to severe” disease.

So unless your news sources are talking about Janssen or other vaccines, they’re lying to you. There are no “DNA” vaccines unless you want to count the adenovirus vector ones which use a DNA virus (AZ/Oxford, Janssen, and Sputnik V), but that’s not the normal usage.

Another contributor to this problem is that the FDA approval of Pfizer’s COMIRNATY used the word “prevent” concerning Covid in the approval language, when it is patently clear that these shots do nothing of the sort. If they did prevent Covid, then there would not be any breakthrough infections!

N% efficacy means 100-N% failure. These vaccines never claimed 100% efficacy against their original target of classic Wuhan, our immune systems over large populations do not allow binary results like that.

They did quite well against classic Wuhan and the Alpha variant, but due to declining efficacy claimed by some for Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine and/or the increased on top of Alpha transmissibility and/or immune escape mutations of Delta have reduced efficacies against Delta for their various endpoints. But are by no means “leaky,” that is, they still are believed to prevent infection to some degree and your “patently clear” claim is wrong.

If the vaccines were designed to reduce the threat of severe illness one would hope that the trials would have established this fact but the reality is very different. Nearly all the participants were under 65 and healthy. If you had wanted to test for reduction you would have ran a trial among the elderly and those with comorbidities. As you mentioned the approval was for prevention as was the EUA. Both should be rescinded on those grounds alone since they do not prevent infection.

The “vaccines” most certainly are leaky, which is a euphemism for ineffective.

The note below reports the results of the Mayo Clinic work on two of the so-called “vaccines”. Pfizer is only 42% effective and Moderna is only 76% effective. It is insane to inject yourself with an essentially untested gene therapy since viral vaccines take decades of testing to be sure of avoiding disastrous side effects like the ones we have already seen with these, particularly when the “vaccines” are ineffective at these rates.

The insanity of the “vaccines” is further reinforced by the existence of competent therapeutics, including but not limited to Ivermectin.

Governments forcing their citizens to take a dangerous and ineffective drug that is intended to protect them from a disease that when properly treated is a minor nuisance — this is pure totalitarianism.

  25. Covid is an old people’s disease. Median age of death globally is 82 years old. It is stupid to vaccinate healthy children. The Elderly are the Vulnerable (5% of victims are under age 60 and have serious health issues). The mass vaccination campaigns are associated with elevated Covid infection rates in every country. Hopefully many exposed and infected by virus while waiting in line will develop natural immunity (we should know, but don’t).

Even now we have no idea what happens when someone with natural immunity is vaccinated. With the spike (S1) Western vaccine, a massive increase in S1 antibodies titers is observed in those who have immunity from previous Covid infection (more and more studies keep conflating short-term S1 antibodies with immunity). Coronavirus infections in nature do not mount a major antibody response and this response (to many of the 25 proteins in the SARS-Cov2 virus) fades quickly (as apparently do antibodies generated in response to the ONE protein S1 vaccines). However cellular immunity to Coronaviruses persists perhaps for a lifetime; there seems much less cellular immunity with the S1-vaccines (which may explain why many vaccinated become superspreaders if infected). It is critical to know if S1 vaccines subvert/ abolish this natural immunity cellular immunity.

Per usual, Cook is always comical lambasting Donald Trump (he seems not to know that Trump left office 8 months ago. Is Margaret Thatcher still head of the UK? “TINA”?) A year ago Biden was savaging “Trump’s” Operation Warp Speed Vaccines (as if Trump really had anything to do with them); now Biden is mandating that every American get the vaccines (proven pointless since the vaccinated spread Covid)! Campaigning Biden promised to make the vaccine patents available to the world, now instead Biden is trying to squeeze blood out of the Third World turnip.

Most REAL scientists have been singing the same mantra since the beginning of the pandemic: Protect the VULNERABLE ONLY. That should give enough natural immunity to get us out of this self-inflicted, Faucian mess.

And that is … well, what says these African or Asians, with respect to the western clot-shots? Don’t they have a say, with respect to the faux-largesse suggested by J. Cook?

Shockingly shlocky mash-up of the current flavor of the day (vaxxo-fascism) with the old favorite (cryptic-supremo-fascism).

    Human being are endlessly self-delusional.

Also …. his ‘Trumpian’ assumptions are not warranted. It’s true Trump went Project Warp-speed, in order to try to secure the 2020 election, but does J. Cook actually possess any information, as to how Trump would have managed the vaxx roll-out, if he indeed were sitting in the White House? I don’t believe he does. Trump always said this vaxx project must be something that is offered on a voluntary basis only, before he got distracted with the election-vote-misappropriation-shenanigans, at which time he pretty much stopped talking about the vaxx roll-out.

I am willing to give credit where credit is due, though. At least J. Cook, near the beginning of his article, does recognize that there is another fascistic-joy-ploy (fascists sure do seem to derive some asinine superficial ‘joy’ from their ploys) at play here. And that is this crystal clear message being broadcasted by the vaxxo-fascists: And that is … that an aged person’s each year of life left, is many multiple times more precious than a younger person’s each year of life left. It’s the putrid Baby Boomer fascistic joy-ploy, …. we have all come to know and hate.

  32. Can anyone persuade me that I should have bothered to finish reading Cook’s wordy effusion after I had learned he was almost articulating the one sensible conclusion from consideration of the facts he sated about the relative risks to children of getting vaccinated and catching Covid 19.

He almost espoused what I call the Cowpox Solution which, in relation to our pandemic, is to immunise children who are not specially vulnerable by making sure they have every chance to catch Covid 19.

No it wouldn’t fail to stop a proportion of them catching it since the vaccines are 71% effective against transmission:
    https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2021/08/study-ties-covid-vaccines-lower-transmission-rates

But I don’t think that kids should be the focus right now. The main problem is with anti-vaxxers that swear off the shot until they get to the hospital. Then they run up a 100k hospital bill after being intubated for a few weeks and regret not going to their pharmacy and getting a simple shot that takes 5 minutes.

The hole in your theory is the nearly universal vaccination rate of Israel’s Jews. As a result of their vaccine madness, don’t they have just about the world’s highest rate of those infected with, and dying from, Covid? If, indeed, the vaccines can make people infertile, then aren’t the Jews genociding themselves? Maybe they are not the world’s most intelligent Master Race after all.

On another note, why do the authorities, both medical and political, keep demanding that those of us over 65 must be vaccinated, and must be first in line to take boosters? Don’t many of us have co-morbidities which could increase our risk of death if we succumb to the shot? For just one example, the recent death of 86 year-old Hank Aaron, two weeks after taking the shot, comes to mind.

Are they trying to save us from a miserable Covid death, or, is the plan that the experimental concoctions will hasten our demise? Most of us are retired and living on pensions and savings. In their sick, twisted minds, maybe we’re little more than “useless eaters” sucking up diminishing resources. Personally, as an unvaxxed senior, every tine that senile idiot Biden yells at me to take the shot, the more I get my back up and say NO.

  39. @HCQ

If the vaccines were designed to reduce the threat of severe illness one would hope that the trials would have established this fact but the reality is very different. Nearly all the participants were under 65 and healthy.

That would be bad if true, but of course it’s not except for screening out some comorbidities because these are people, not lab rats we’re willing to sacrifice for SCIENCE!!!, that data came later in Phase IV “post-marketing,” see below. US vaccines in alphabetical order Phase III demographics, >= 65 Janssen 20%, Moderna 24%, Pfizer did a blended Phase 2/3 and was 21% (you have to look at the FDA staff briefing document for that). And we can tell from Delta hospitalization and death demographics that these vaccines are quite effective for those >= 65 with whatever comorbidities they have, for example in my local region deaths are roughly equal for on both sides of that line.

As [meamjojo] mentioned the approval was for prevention as was the EUA. Both should be rescinded on those grounds alone since they do not prevent infection.

Except of course that’s also a lie, as well as ludicrous given how effective they are in preventing hospitalization and death. Janssen’s primary endpoint was in fact “preventing moderate to severe illness,” preventing infection was a secondary endpoint. The reverse was true for the others, which you would find if you actually bothered to check for example the VRBPAC briefing documents as I just did.

BTW, clinical trials independent of the companies have been run by other entities on special populations, like one university with a medical school hospital on cancer patients. All sorts of things can be done ethically once they got EUAs.

As the fine article says, that’s against Alpha; Delta has changed the game, and/or waning efficacy in general which we’re trying to discern right now. Against Delta with its immune escape mutations we are finding all vaccine efficacy endpoints have been lowered, including against transmission. But I’d strongly bet it’s a lot better than using surgical and cloth grade masks to minimize the ability to transmit by the infected.

I admit to a bit of suspicion here based on the sequence of a new government forming which included a period where Pfizer wasn’t getting paid and eventually had to stop shipments, the health ministry claiming the lowest of any place efficacy (against Delta) without showing us their work and the very high price Netanyahu negotiated for doses as part of the deal to get the country first in line (which due to its small population didn’t really harm others’ vaccination campaigns).

Even came across someone on Unz.com claiming they were going to start using Moderna in favor of Pfizer/BioNTech, there’s also some CDC (oops) study claiming some sort of superiority for Moderna. And perhaps some reasons to believe that based on it’s higher than BioNTech normal for vaccines side effect profile.

The left has zero credibility on science given that their entire outlook is a rejection of nature. Entire colleges are devoted to maintaining the lie that race doesn’t exist and nature created an egalitarian exemption for humans.

But none of that has anything to do with the vaccine.

Sure, move the goalposts, it won’t help you, for strangely enough, they also recruited people >= 75 years old. Your recollection must be 2nd or worse hand from biased sources because as I repeat, the raw primary source data is readily available.

So going back to the VRBPAC briefing documents, for Janssen 445 vs. 416 subjects or 4.6%/4.3%, a substantial number for Moderna but I’m not going to try right now to work the math backwards from “Cases / N (%) Incidence rate per 1,000 person-years” (while not statistically significant at the time of the EUA application it was 0 vs. 3 for vaccine vs. placebo), 860 vs. 852 or 4.3%/4.2% for Pfizer.

Here you’re simply demanding too much from Phase III trials run up to the point of EUA applications, those numbers not counting however many were in the Phase II trials were enough to establish safety and indications of efficacy from surrogate endpoints derived from serological study of antibody and white blood cell results.

So that’s one reason they didn’t get full licensure, “approval” back then; instead I suggest you look at the six months out reports, safety was established as well as can be done in the numbers of max FDA size Phase III trials for the EUAs due to the nature of vaccines and their adverse effects, efficacy is what holds up approval.

That is, you can’t calculate risk/benefit tradeoffs without both, although these vaccines are unique in generating a mountain of in their unusual because of the emergency Phase IV “post-marketing” where they were given to millions of people and we were able to for example find rare adverse effects you’ll only find with numbers that big. Plus we have a much better idea of how well they’re protecting the elderly, something we can see in the current Delta wave.

I use mRNA/DNA to refer to any of the so-called “vaccines” that cause the body to generate some configuration of the spike protein to train the immune system with.

This is a partial and ineffective solution that MAY expose people to damage by the spike proteins being loose in the body, as reported by the Salk Institute and others. This implementation of a vaccine doesn’t kill the virus, which is why some percentage of the fully vaccinated still wind up in the hospital or dead and why the fully vaccinated have been implicated for passing the live and [possibly] mutated virus swishing around in their upper respiratory system to others.

To overcome these deficiencies, TPTB in conjunction with the MSM have been pushing/reinforcing the fact that the mRNA/DNA vaccines DO NOT kill and were never designed to kill the Covid virus; they just reduce the possibility that you might get seriously ill.

As kids rarely get seriously ill from Covid, there is no reason to vaccinate them.

You are stuck in some “us vs them” mentality. I haven’t shared my opinions on ivermectin. I certainly didn’t agree with the MSM depicting it as some backwoods hillbilly idea.

However there are plenty of cases where people died despite taking ivermectin so it obviously isn’t a miracle cure. In any case it isn’t available to the public due to high demand.

If you’re really informed, why do you go and enrich people who want to inject you with an experimental drug that might as well give you cancer or Alzheimer in the long run, while preventing you from taking a cheap and very safe drug, and being totally ok with you dying in the process?

Are you just hoping there is some long run side effect of the vaccines? We know that long haul COVID is real but your talk of long term effects of the vaccine are pure conjecture.

mRNA vaccines are not new. They have been in use for years and aren’t some long term implant nor do they change your DNA. They use the body’s immune system just like regular vaccines. The J&J is a traditional vaccine but I find it quite telling that the anti-vaxx side has declared that all the vaccines are bad. If mRNA was really the concern then the message would be to get the J&J. So far I have only seen 2 people here suggest doing that. That supports my belief that the current anti-vaxx movement is really just a weird tribal backlash against Trump losing.

The anti-vaxx side keeps changing their message and scaling back the clock like a doomsday cult. Doctors got the shot early and nothing has happened to them.

-What was the CT level protocol used in these various reported results?

I know I tried to get it in the tests I passed but the front line people I talked to had no idea even what I was talking about because their just drones paid to do the job of collecting samples. Since I tested negative on 4 PCR tests over the past 9 months, I didn’t bother trying to “fight city hall”.

The vaccines work and covid is undoubtedly a greater risk than any of the side effects. Just ask any anti-vaxxer that is currently in the hospital.

Sure and while you are at it, head over to the lung cancer ward and ask how many there wished they had stopped smoking, Next go to the heart attack/bypass section and check how many wished they had exercised more and eaten more healthy.

If the Covid people in the hospital had been given the opportunity to get drugs like Ivermectin or Fluvoxamine (among others), then they might not have even had to go to the hospital.

The vast majority of people won’t even get Covid and the percentage who wind up in the hospital are usually there because they are very old, obese or have various comorbidities.

Tell you want, I’ll spot you a \$100 toward the invention of a time machine so you can go back and tell Jonas Salk he didn’t actually develop a vaccine. Or you could try this line on a pediatrician.

Or she can simply explain how Polio just happened to disappear in the first world after the vaccine was widely disseminated.

“But that was just better sanitation!”

Smallpox is perhaps the best example for this, polio is complicated by there being two useful vaccine types, the “leaky” Salk type injected inactivated whole virus one, and the “sterilizing” Sabin oral attenuated live virus one. Each has its place, the Sabin in particular in a quick first pass over as much of a population as you can inoculate.

Rinderpest is also interesting (“Won’t anyone think of the even-toed ungulates!!!”) in that we also managed to eradicate it, and it was the source of measles sometime in the 5th to 15th Century. A significant disease due to its ability to suppress the immune system for a long time, that’s believed to be its major contribution to morbidity and mortality in the Third World.

23% of active Covid “cases” in Alberta, Canada are double-vaccinated, and the portion of hospitalized Covid patients with double vaccinations is almost identical. The first vaccinations did not start until December 15, and the daily peak of inoculations occurred in May. With most people double vaccinated far less than six months, 100-N% is already below 77. At least 95% of cases were non-severe prior to the release of the vaccine.

Preventing infection to “some degree” constitutes being “not leaky”?

mRNA vaccines are not new. They have been in use for years and aren’t some long term implant nor do they change your DNA. They use the body’s immune system just like regular vaccines.

Everything you say here is correct except the “used for years” unless there’s been some animal vaccines I’m not aware of. They’ve been in the works for years, and decades, even as bitter crank Robert Malone keeps reminding us while incorrectly claiming credit for the two successful ones. They’re a subset of general work to see what mRNA can therapeutically accomplish, something Malone did a useful proof of concept experiment on in the 1980s.

Pretty obviously far along since the two companies successful at them took no time at all to combine them with years of research into safe SARS type coronavirus vaccines, Moderna famously over a weekend, BioNTech was more cautious and started with three candidates.

The J&J is a traditional vaccine

Maybe…. In its viral vector type it’s only been used widely before in the first Ebola vaccine, but with a different virus vector that’s also replication competent. Otherwise as far as I’ve been able to discern the biggest use of adenoviruses as vectors was J&J’s Janssen unit using their Ad26 based platform for the first dose of their Ebola vaccine, which got as far as an European Phase III trial (no one’s in a hurry for the next major Ebola outbreak to test it for real…).

These vaccines do require relatively new molecular genetics technology, two sets of genes for replication and evading the immune system are removed, and the first is replaced by DNA coding for the target, in this case a stabilized spike protein (and why are anti-vaxxers so resistant to that important difference, and worse, see the subset who state a preference for Sputnik V which codes for a wild type spike protein like Oxford’s, albeit I don’t know if any of these get decorated with sugars like the real thing). And the genes for replication are instead inserted into the cells in which the virus is grown.

On the other hand, both types are “active vaccines,” are means to the end of getting some mRNA to make viral proteins inside of cells, and thus are like the very first vaccine which gave us that name from Jenner’s Latin for “smallpox of the cow.”

but I find it quite telling that the anti-vaxx side has declared that all the vaccines are bad. If mRNA was really the concern then the message would be to get the J&J. So far I have only seen 2 people here suggest doing that. That supports my belief that the current anti-vaxx movement is really just a weird tribal backlash against Trump losing.

Well, see the ones who’d prefer Sputnik V if it wasn’t unobtainium, although that’ll be less so for Sputnik Light which is the first dose and like Janssen’s based on Ad26. Janssen may also not be a big focus because Emergent BioSolutions predictably screwed up its manufacturing in the US, and there’s a huge crush for supplies to grow vaccines in cell culture, some of which probably includes some supplies used for the mRNA vaccines.

Preventing infection to “some degree” constitutes being “not leaky”?

Yes, a leaky vaccine like the Salk type for polio does not prevent infection, just bad effects of getting infected. There a gut infection including excreting the virus which can infect others, it “just” prevents that from going beyond the gut and causing paralysis.

Have you factored in Delta with its immune escape mutations into your picture of Alberta, or for that matter the previous displacement of classic Wuhan by Alpha, which would have started not long after vaccinations started? I would hope it would not be surprising that such a variant would result in lower efficacies across the board given that these first generation vaccines necessarily target classic Wuhan.

It should also not be a surprise that each of these significantly increasingly transmissible variants would steamroll prior precautions people had used to avoid getting infected. This is most visible in countries that tried for Zero Covid while they could get their populations vaccinated, New Zealand now the most … exciting example of that, they might just manage to tamp it down but it’s a serious challenge.

None were tested, quarantined, or tracked. Same with Trump’s 13 Mar 2020 Travel Ban from Europe. His excuse? “This is a pandemic…I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.” [DJT 17 Mar 2020].

The collapse of these arguments will be heard around the world before much longer.

I think the bioweapon hypothesis despite very bad press or no press is true. Under the bioweapon hypothesis every man, woman, and child in the UK is in mortal danger from these “vaccines” and the government pushing them. I think we shall soon see a sharp jump in mortality rates among all parts of the population attributed to new variants of Covid or the unvaccinated, but due to the evolutionary pressure on Covid provided by the “vaccines” and their generally murderous design characteristics.

The great curse for humanity which is leading it to doom in this age is its unabashed submission to fear. Fear of the Covid virus for sure, but also the fear that prevents most people from considering that the government that rules them is totally evil. After all, Covid is deadly, right, but what do you do if your own government wants you all dead? That is a fear beyond all fears and none in this population can handle even small, garden variety fears. I do oppose the Federal mandate. I don’t think it is good strategy.

What I did support was the original plan which was to tie the stimulus check to the vaccines. But the Democrats backed off from that idea after someone pointed out that Blacks have low vaccination rates.

For a mandate to work would require allowing the Feds to access medical records. Otherwise you are asking people to bring in a simple card that can be easily forged. I would view accessing medical records as Federal overreach and they would take half a year to even pull it off.

It would definitely be surprising that such a variant would result in lower efficacies given that high-effect mutations tend to be rare and the effects of fitness enhancing mutations tend to be moderate. It would appear that the vaccines just aren’t very good at preventing transmission of SARS CoV-2, nor the development of Covid-19 in the vaccinated.

Certainly there is no scientific evidence that precautions used to avoid getting infected have worked anywhere. Transmission of infectious respiratory viruses occurs indoors in conditions of low humidity when <5um virus-containing particles travel on the fluid air and resist sedimentation. Particles of this size can contain adequate quantities of virus to cause infection. These particles can travel 30m in such conditions and are able to pass through and around masks. So masks cannot work to avoid getting infected, and neither can social-distancing work to prevent infection.

  116. You have Life?  Good.  Then Life has you as well  All of you! Every organ, every drop of blood and, of course, your brain: your mind. But I have free will!, you say. Of course you do. Sort of.

Now Life is normally quite placid. Even though Life lives on by consuming itself; the feasting is benign, as it is with all Life’s wards; with one notable exception. You.  And the rest of the human race. We are Life consuming gluttons extraordinaire. Think Gettysburg, Dachau, Hiroshima and …factory farming: ad nauseam. This is not new, of course. Our behavior is old news. Life has cut slack to humans because we have a uniqueness that has warranted observation over time. Time may have just run out. Humans now have the ability to destroy the biosphere. Our pernicious conduct may have convinced Life that without its prompt.interjection; it is inevitable.

Enter Mr.Covid 19. Force Majeure of modern plagues. Sponsor of the blame game to end all blame games. Seven billion people have an opinion…and an asshole. The ones who have a microphone or a computer demonstrate both, daily. Think Life has a hand in all this? Maybe the plague is a worldwide distraction to give the Biosphere a little breathing room to heal from ongoing human assault? Hmmm.Millions are dead. Millions are becoming infected every day. The virus twists and turns and presents a new face constantly. We rush to keep up but seemingly always lag behind. How so? Is it out of our hands?

The issue that is important to so many is not whether the vaccines work or not. It is the fear that the vaccines will maim them. cause serious side effects that would to some folks’ mind not make life worth living and so on. Fear is a big motivator. Also, some of these folks include thousands of nurses and doctors who have seen those side effects, some of which include death and are still not willing to take a chance, not out of ignorance but out of an understanding that vaccines have always been required to have been tested for four to six years before being released. Many of these people are not acting out of fear but out of distrust of the drug companies motives. Enormous amounts of money are involved..

Thus, they are willing to depend on alternative medicines that have been around for years and years and proven to be safe. Finally, why the crazed reaction of so many vaccinated, when the laws of vaccination state that you are safe from the unvaccinated. (why would you want to get vaccinated in the first place if you weren’t ? Most agree that the vaccines will at least keep you out of the hospital. So why the anger at the unvaccinated? Is it just the mass brainwashing people have gone through that are ignorant of the facts?

but out of an understanding that vaccines have always been required to have been tested for four to six years before being released

Citation for this? Because I’ve never heard of such a thing. Follow people for a couple of years, sure. Requiring this for a Biologics License from the FDA in the USA? I’d like to see something backing up your claim, especially when your knowledge of the field is so meager, emphasis added:

Finally, why the crazed reaction of so many vaccinated, when the laws of vaccination state that you are safe from the unvaccinated.

Because this is such complete garbage … well of course I’m not at a loss for words about these claimed “laws.” Are you incapable of understanding that N% efficacy means 100-N% failure?

That a vaccine aimed at one variant, classic Wuhan in this case, which was also quite good against Alpha, will quite understandably show less efficacy against a variant with some mutations relevant to immunity? Delta, and from it’s October 2020 discovery date in India probably came to get around natural immunity. Have you never heard about how much the flu can change to invalidate prior year’s vaccines (new “strains,” not variants; fortunately it’s a special case several times over among all the viruses we use vaccines against).

So why the anger at the unvaccinated?

Because some pro-vaxxers are every bit as bugnut crazy as many anti-vaxxers? How is that also hard to understand?? Maybe your anger would be better directed at those pro-vaxxers than the ones here?

  120. Another fact checker. Oh? You have never heard that the standard length of time for approving vaccines is 4 to 6 years. This is common knowledge to every pharmacy tech student. I’m not angry.and the very fact that you attribute anger to my post makes you suspect. No doubt you hate Trump also, even though he pushed for the creation of the vaccines in the first place. You should build a statue to him..

but out of an understanding that vaccines have always been required to have been tested for four to six years before being released

    Let’s move those goalposts:

You have never heard that the standard length of time for approving vaccines is 4 to 6 years.

Of course it takes a long time for the process to play out when there’s no crisis, with most of the time being spent on writing grant proposals, waiting for approval, and convincing a drug company to take a risk on your vaccine. Then getting into the timeline I think you’re referring to, doing animal trials, then Phase I through III human trials, getting approval, not emergency authorization, then deciding to start to make the vaccine in quantity.

In an emergency, it’s right on the label, Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), this can be massively sped up for reasons which should be obvious in many cases. BioNTech and Moderna were sufficiently confident in their platforms and the SARS type coronavirus vaccine research done by others (see my recent comments on three other groups who did Phase I trials before COVID with harm to their subjects) that they started animal and human testing in parallel. A bit risky for the 45 humans in Moderna’s trial, but it paid off fantastically.

Shortcuts were made in the usual figure out the optimal dose step with varying results, Delta might reveal some of that, and for example Sanofi Pasteur failed to get enough immunity for the elderly in Phase’s I and II and had to restart this year with a V2.0 effort. Then entirely conventional Phase III trials were done, but of course seeing as how this is an emergency, using the existing law and regulations for that various of these vaccines got emergency authorization from various regulatory bodies.

The really big step skipped there is length of efficacy which is only learned for real a day at a time. Safety only takes two months, but normally you want both to make a risk/benefit calculation. Except of course this is a novel virus and is still adapting to humans, so their efficacy against the classic Wuhan they targeted isn’t even relevant now that Delta has become the generally dominant variant due to its much greater transmissibility.

And then there’s the Manhattan Project angle, if you’re not the EU or India you spend money like crazy, for all of the above and throughout the supply chain, you arrange for bulk manufacturing to begin before you have Phase III trial results (probably tend to defer fill and finish since making those special glass vials are a bottleneck). You spread your money across multiple efforts, five big ones for the US and Operation Warp Speed (OWS) and you’re ecstatic if you get success with two of them, Janssen and Moderna (AZ/Oxford did a full FDA scale Phase III trial and decided not to try for an EUA, Novavax is in some sort of horrible situation and the U.K. bet on it as well and should have authorized it by now, see above for Sanofi, and Pfizer avoided all OWS money except for a purchase order until they started falling flat on their fact in early production promises).

In other words, some people are capable of realizing when you’re in a crisis called a pandemic, and then making bets of all sorts. If you think people would have been satisfied with waiting for four years, a number it’s now clear you pulled out of your posterior, for the US perhaps resulting in 3 million dead (a guess based on Mr. Unz’s estimates) you live in a different reality than the majority of the country.

The COVID vaccine’s effectiveness is trending down very quickly to levels comparable to the seasonal flu shot. The vaccine doesn’t even suppress the virus, which continues to variegate and spread.

please peruse this article, it says 5-10 years are required to prove safety and efficacy: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/vaccines/timeline. and this:
    https://www.historyofvaccines.org/content/articles/vaccine-development-testing-and-regulation

“Delta, and from it’s October 2020 discovery date in India probably came to get around natural immunity”. The variant arrived to get around the vax, variants do not appear to get around natural immunity, that is not how it works; variants arise only in vaxxed people through selection pressure and immune escape. India has completely eradicated covid in Uttar Pradesh State after the incorporation of ivermectin. https://newsrescue.com/the-undeniable-ivermectin-miracle-indias-240m-populated-largest-state-uttar-pradesh-horowitz/

There is no actual reason to conflate vax immune escape with seasonal flu changes, they occur by different methods.

So why are you so angry by simply reading a post? btw -your own cherished notions are simply erroneous. The covid unvaxxed are at risk from the vaxxed, not the other way around

  124. aj54 says:
    @The Anti-Gnostic

The vax is driving the development of more variants, and we now have variants of variants. The vax campaign needs to stop before a lethal variation arises.

  125. aj54 says:
    @That Would Be Telling

We should have waited 4 years, the virus has a 99% survival rate. The mean age of death is 80, 95% of victims are over 60. The vax is far more problematic for young people than the virus.

You can tell TWBT is a troll because he calls the virus “the Wuhan virus.”

Interesting also that the “retired” TWBT makes extensive tactical use of the “Troll” button to detract from/downgrade postings he (yes, he) dislikes. No fewer than four (4) posts marked “Troll” by TWBT in this thread alone.

  127. Once again, much of the “solidarity” is a result of our worthless media colluding with the establishment to make it seem so. Take the Yahoo forum, today an article appeared that had a long time experienced nurse describing how she was going to be fired for not taking the Cov vaccine. She said that she never felt so strongly about anything. Then the story proceeded to criticize her and take the establishment’s side, something reporters have no business doing. Furthermore, Yahoo won’t take any comments from readers, so that any agreement with the nurse is not voiced, making her attitude look one sided. The media has a huge role in validating the administrations forcing these shots onto people who do not want them by firing them when they do not. They are not interested in testing people to see if they have natural immunity, etc. It’s the shot or else. Despicable, especially since those who have taken the shot are supposed to be immune to the virus. Even a person without medical credentials is taken more seriously, like Javier Becerra or as Biden calls him Beckeria.
