Yale's Halloween Costume Crisis: No End in Sight

I know, it’s been a week since Halloween, but they’re just getting warmed up at Yale U., where hundreds of students are demanding that a professor (the silver-haired man in the blue shirt who is getting screamed at in the video) denounce his wife for her not taking seriously an email from Yale’s Diversity Nook warning against Halloween costumes that are culturally inappropriate or that culturally appropriate or something.
You can read all about it at FIRE.org.

Why does that man permit that woman to keep on shouting at him? Is he too scared to defend himself or his wife? If that is the case: Scared of what exactly?
It goes back to MLK. Take away the volume and read his speeches straight, and they are just silly yammerings.
We see a pattern.
Black 'debating' style.
Interruption of Bernie Sanders speech.
The way of rappers.
Jews use wit and logic(however twisted).
Blacks holler.
Well, Jews created this climate. May they reap what they sowed.
PS. The idea of 'safe spaces' is one thing white right should appropriate from PC.
EU should be safe space from Muslim invasion, African violence, and Jewish machinations.
White communities should be safe spaces from black crime... like in the film THE VILLAGE.
Good idea and morally defensible too.
The great irony is the most universities are set up to be safe spaces for whites from black crime.
Many are situated in small towns.
And even those in big cities(with lots of blacks) have lots of policing. like in Hyde Park. It is to protect whites from black thugs.
But colleges are also 'progressive' and ostensibly against 'white privilege'.
So, they provide 'safe spaces' for minority students but from what? The mythical KKK at Oberlin?
White Libs create safe racial spaces for themselves but justify such spaces by making the gesture of creating mini-safe-spaces for token blacks who have nothing to fear. Such token blacks may be accosted by stop-ans-frisk police on occasion, but cops do that only because they've been ordered to maintain safe spaces for white libs in a city with 'too many blacks.'
He's probably a hero to the other professors on campus who now are seeing what they've wrought.Replies: @International Jew, @Unladen Swallow
I suggest that these students would benefit from experiencing a Chinese practice from the time of the Cultural Revolution. Several years of hard labour in a rural setting.
Obamas only real jobs were scooping ice cream in Hawaii at a Baskin-Robbins while giving his stoner buddies free treats and his time at that Wall Street related firm writing reports. Other than that short time Obama has always been drawing Gov't checks and one from University of Chicago for a minor teaching job.
Halloween is over and the New Haven dust has not settled. However the Yalie galoots, the local SJWs, are looking forward to Thanksgiving protests with all the usual complaints about Christopher Columbus and the genocide of native Americans.
Nicholas Christakis is quite a distinguished professor and has a medical degree https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_A._Christakis ____These SJW morons will never come close to reaching his intellectual stature. This is why they crave emotional release via really dumb protests.
Notice the crowd is “snapping” instead of clapping, as the latter is potentially triggering to rape survivors.
These movements look so dumb and hysterical. I’d be willing to concede they probably do have some valid complaints when it comes to costumes or rape or x,y,z but how do you even begin separate the facts from the bullshit and hysteria?
???
Guys, be honest, with all of the “advantages” minorities have today, would you rather be white or a minority?
Rubio was obviously including his fellow [half] Cuban candidate Ted Cruz as one of the "minority" candidates. The funny thing is Cruz is probably the most melanin-deprived candidate running. He looks like he'd get melanoma if he spent more than five minutes unprotected in the summer sun.
It is gratifying that the targets of the 2 minutes of hate are increasingly choosing to double down.
Looks like his group (which BTW is upping its legal staff) is getting ready to hold Yale's balls to The FIRE (.org).
As well it should.
FWIW, I note that one of the founders of The FIRE was the only person at my alma mater to stand up for the student in the infamous "water buffalo" incident.

Still, I see this as the logical outcome of Frankfurt School Eskimo bolshies taking charge of higher ed (and indeed the entire Ed Biz). It could only lead to this.
Let's hope it's possible to reclaim our academies from screechy little girls who think the job of a master of an Ivy League college is to be a housewife.
I.e., from the linked FIRE piece:
"“Who the fuck hired you?” she asked, arguing that Christakis should “step down” because being master is “not about creating an intellectual space,” but rather “creating a home.”"
This is precisely why so many men didn't want to let women en masse into universities. This is the only mentality many can bring--displacement of (thwarted) energies for making homes for babies and children.Replies: @Jack D, @ben tillman
I don’t think her shrill nonsense did any favours to her cause. And what would shouting back achieve?
Young kids just love censorship. It’s a generational thing.
Last year I was told by a younger female cousin she wouldn’t speak, socialise or in any way associate herself with right- wing, racist, sexist or “homophobic” people. At that point she didn’t really know where I stood on some issues. Needless to say, I was soon made a pariah by her and her side of the family.
Today tolerance means intolerance toward different point of views. If you do not toe the PC line you’re a fascist, a waste of oxygen, a non-person. And antifas are downright violent and vicious. You’ve been warned.

It's more like a female thing. Women crave conformity over individuality, security over freedom. I see it all day, every day, everywhere.Replies: @Anon7
When little Miss Loudmouth took off her backpack, I thought she was going to hit Prof. Christakis. The aftermath of that would have put an end to all this whingeing.
If blackface is a no-go (or would compromise the "space's" "safeness") could I get away with Drunk Indian or some kind of Shylock/Eternal Jew get up? Could somebody give me an executive summary?
The email that “caused” this outburst would have sounded liberal/progressive just a short time ago, but now it’s apparently hate speech. You can add this to the 100 reasons NOT to go to grad school. http://100rsns.blogspot.com/
Academics helped create the grievance culture, and now it’s turning on them.
Don't oversimplify this. I'm one of many many people who left careers in the Ed Biz on my own terms rather than facing the inevitable of having life, job, marriage, family, health, everything ruined by one of these great-grand-sprogs of the Frankfurt School bolshies. As punishment for not thinking like they.
It's why I chose my current path. Was it wrong? Can't say. I only know that history seems to teach that when tulip hysteria takes root in the mass psyche, it's got to run its course, like a pandemic.
Back at the turn of the milennium Yale turned me down for a job. I have just emailed them to thank them with a link to Razib Khan’s article.
Shortly ago I said the lattice of coincidence first of all requires human connections, though eventually they are invisible, so that the lattice doesn’t imprint a door til some mind outlines a manifest design, whether or no that mind knows the pivotal role it is playing in terms of conjuring a gravely important and totally real door. Well I just lately was having a correspondence with a grad student at Yale who ended one note by saying “Halloween up here is going to be particularly ghoulish this year I suspect.” Who knows.

Hopefully some future employer gets to see this little bitch in action and cancels a job interview. The professor, on the other hand, was totally cowed. Now, you start to understand why police officers tase these little shits, how could you just stand there?

Wow, when you read his wife’s email about costumes this becomes parody. She says at one point about costumes….”isn’t okay at some point to be a bit obnoxious” Well, duh, the girl in the video took her advice and ran with it.
As a parent it is inconceivable to me how 18-20 years of effort could produce these overgrown infants. I’d be curious to know whether these kids are just parroting the same ideology they grew up with or whether it’s a product of the campus environment. Who are the parents and what do they think of all this?
Leftism: permission to clutch the pearls and the purses, purse the lips, be a nosy busybody, proclaim the Gospel, Tikkun Olam, regulate morality, denounce the unrighteous, burn the witches, etc.
(It occurs, funny how in the positive, it’s “the Judeo-Christian tradition” now, but in the negative, it’s “the Cathedral” or “post-Christian,” or the like. Not “post-Abrahamic,” “post Judeo-Christian.” No mention of “the Synagogue and the Cathedral.”
Never heard anyone gripe about the “Judeo-Christian Inquisition,” the “Judeo-Christian Crusades,” “Judeo-Christian Guilt,” etc. Maybe Muslims do; I don’t pay them much attention.)
These days I can understand why Mao banished intellectuals to hoeing cabbages for a few years with the peasants. Although our young budding campus intellects are 100x worse and have zero ability to do a real job in the the real world. They are mini me Obamas.

It would be interesting if we could have some sort of ongoing study of students at elite universities that tracked things like personality types and likelihood to regress to angry shouting and see if we could predict which Yalies etc would make real contributions to society and which just end up in a lifetime promoting pet causes.
When I was in university and met students like this girl, I always wondered what they could do in the real world. Is she going to yell like that when arguing in front of SCOTUS? Is her interest in “home” and feeling safe going to provoke her to do groundbreaking research?
I suspect students like her just go on to be administrators, politicians, and NGO workers.
At one point, the linked fire.org article reads, “As you can see from the footage below, which was taken by Lukianoff while on campus, the confrontation quickly escalated into a shouting match.”
The footage shows a succession of Yalies hectoring and shouting at Nicholas Christakis. He listens, nods, and occasionally gets a word in edgewise.
Not a match.
These videos illustrate a recurring iSteve theme: when society rewards bad behavior, that serves as an incentive for more bad behavior.
I wondered what happened to that “championship” debate team from Towson. Now I know. They transferred to Yale and wound up at the appropriately named “Sillyman” College, which I believe should be changed in the spirit of diversity to “Sillywoman” College. That’s all I have time to say right now. I have to get back to some correspondence I am working on to with Master Christakis re our campaign to rid American colleges of truly demeaning names such as the Michigan State “Spartans” and the U. of Southern Cal “Trojans.” Those demeaning terms are found not only on Halloween but throughout the year. It’s truly disgusting.
This is like watching exotic bugs devouring each other in a petri dish. What a strange world these creatures inhabit.
the kind of person who screams at those occasions is much likely the kind of person who sent other people to labour camps during the Cultural Revolution
Why did the author of the article say it was a “shouting match”? Who were the “matched” shouters? The Negro girl and the professor? He didn’t “shout” anything at all.
These are the fruits of a society run by women. Even today, is it conceivable for a man to allow himself to be heard whining like this?
A hundred years ago, prohibition was enacted, for alcohol is an evil invention by men. Fun in general is an evil invention by men, for men.
Free speech is an oppressive oligarchic paternalistic racist adultist malist construct. It doesn’t exist, just like race and gender, figments of the imagination of the patriarchy. Reality, fun, airplanes, cameras, wheels, toothpicks, atomic reactors and ice cream, all are oppressions foisted upon us by the patriarchy, and justified by the vilest construct of them all, free speech.
Instead, let the matriarchy and culturarchy lead the way. After all, they have given us “safe spaces” and nurseries for all.
“And let reality be banished from the earth, for all eternity, sayeth she, the goddess of safe spaces and whining bitches.
Erm. You need to spend more time in the AA sectors of universities.
One of the biggest campus issues of late is men whining to be allowed into women's rooms on the grounds that they are actually women. In the infrastructure sector (the tradespeople who keep these academic small-cities running), there is beaucoup frustration at present about the invented need for "transgender bathroom facilities." These males reject the already available unisex or handicapped/ADA bathrooms.
Also, try hanging around men who can't get over the fact that they made lousy or stupid mating choices. They can't let their exes go and will spend way more time clinging to their victimization than remaking their lives.
When men revolve their lives around the need for a special place to whizz and plop, or staying connected to their mistakes, you know your society is approaching Maximum Degenerate.
I find it funny that one of the demands of these crazies is that university provide them with more mental health resources. Maybe Yale should invest in some straight jackets and padded cells.
“Students’ remarks extended far beyond the incidents involving SAE and Christakis, although they have served as the catalysts for an onslaught of discontent this week. Students called for sweeping administrative change, including the improvement of mental health infrastructure for minority students ”
http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2015/11/06/students-question-administrative-silence-about-campus-race-related-incidents/
The students should force the professor to wear a dunce cap and engage in self-criticism, but probably dunce caps are culturally insensitive and insulting to the Dunce-American community.
I love the idea of the Pinterest page with “suggested” good and bad Halloween costumes. The actual pages didn’t really offer much comedy gold, unfortunately. I did glean that dressing as Rosie the Riveter is good, because she is a strong female figure. I don’t know whether it is OK/expected for guys to also dress as Rosie, but I assume it is. Would it be OK to dress as Dr. Huxtable in a colorful sweater (as long as you didn’t wear blackface)?
In the ’60s, if the Yale administration had dared to officially recommend Halloween costumes to the students (not that anyone over the age of 12 wore Halloween costumes in those days) everyone would have called them fascists, but now the students DEMAND that they do so.
I also love the idea of abolishing House “Masters” – how racist can you get? I don’t know what we could change this to, though. Anything else – house chieftain, house sheikh, etc. would be cultural appropriation, just as evil as dressing up as a samurai or in a turban. I understand that dressing as inanimate object is still OK in most cases. Maybe the House Master could be called the “Big Cheese” or the “Venti Latte”, but then again many non-Northern Europeans are lactose intolerant, vegan, etc. so maybe he/she/it could be the “Big Tofu” or the “Venti Latte with soymilk”.
"Dunce caps" look suspiciously like Klan hoods, so the resulting micro- and nano-aggressions, might very well endanger the very fabric of the Universe itself. But it that really a bad thing? I have it on good authority that the Universe itself is not only a right-wing realm, one that is positively rife with racism & misogyny, but that at its very core, it is deeply transphobic. DEEPLY!
Who is the girl? Is she Asian or African-American?
Way back in my college days, at the dawn of the PC era, I had a Chinese history professor who said that the PC movement reminded him of the Red Guards from the Cultural Revolution. I thought that comment was an exaggeration, but it doesn’t seem that far from the truth now.
One assumes that the zeal and ardor of these undergraduates will wane with time. But if not, it scares me to think of the consequences for American society.
Prof. Christakis is a naïve man…but consider him schooled now. He seems to have actually thought that there was a difference of opinion, and that if the two sides reasoned together, there could be better understanding, if not agreement. That idea is so mid-twentieth century.
Silly man.
Someone buy him a copy of Rules for Radicals, right away.
http://www.voxday.net/mart/SJW_Attack_Survival_Guide.pdf
These events are called struggle-sessions. They were common in China’s Cultural Revolution and were conducted by brain-washed college students who obeyed Mao Tse Tung zealously.
She’ a light skinned Mulatta. The most militant blacks and those who form the “black” leadership are the ones who are partly white. First of all, in order to prove their black identity (most of all to themselves) and 2ndly because they tend to be more intelligent than other American Blacks who have more African blood.
, Who is the girl? Is she Asian or African-American?
There is an old fashioned word, beginning with q, which I think describes her and most of the African-American Yale students.
In the linked FIRE video, there is a loop of Pres. Obama answering a question about this kind of stuff. His answer seemed to me kind of great. Credit where credit is due.
I find it hard to summon sympathy for somebody who can write piffle such as “challenges to our lived experiences in a plural community”. If it’s just a case of The Left eating The Left, leave them at it.
Dude – he’s giving her a “safe space” to make a complete ass of herself and show the world how batshit crazy she is.
Anyhow, there is no way you can defend yourself against the verbal assaults of crazy people.
This really does echo of the Chinese CultRev. Why “the fuck” are students allowed to talk like this to faculty? Yale is supposed to be the creme de la creme of American universities, so this does not bode well.
Love it when the girl screams “It is not about creating an intellectual space! It’s about creating a home here!”
That makes Yale one damn expensive apartment community. What do tuition, room and board come to at Yale these days? $61,600 per year. If these people want a home they should take the solid quarter million they’re spending to rent a tiny space at Yale for four years and buy themselves one.
These videos exemplify much of the bullshit behind the claims that diversity enhances the classroom experience. What diversity actually does is make it a lot harder to talk honestly in classrooms about anything that offends NAMs, Muslims, or any group that is especially irked at the slightest criticism of their culture.
"I came here to find a high-earning white man who will install me in a lifestyle I expect, then I get to scream at him anytime I feel like it."Replies: @SFG
That young person has a bright future as a political commissar, HR maven, or community organizer.
It strikes me that this might be the perfect moment for the U. of Chicago to assert itself as the number one undergraduate institution in America — the only liberal arts college that maintains traditional standards of free speech, a solid liberal arts curriculum (though slipping here), and that treats its students, not like children, and not like adults, but like, well, smart undergraduates who have a lot to learn. Liberal faculty and administrators at all the other elite institutions have caved, a surrender that started in the 1960’s — why did they give up virtually without a fight? — and that continues today.
If you watch the video ’til the better end she walks right past the camera, and is most definitely black. All of the people screaming in the video appear to be black.
He’s scared of being fired:
Remember what happened to Larry Summers, former Secretary of the Treasury, former Chief Economist of the World Bank, who was forced to step down as President of Harvard University for saying that there didn’t seem to be as many women as men who wanted to be scientists or engineers.
Can’t anybody here look on the bright side?
1/ We’ve had too many leaders recently from Yale. This might change that.
2/ This might persuade some schools to stop putting so much emphasis on non-academic (read lefty actions) activities in their admissions.
3/ This might cause more smart students to go into more STEM-y subjects.
#3. It drove me STEMwards. I started out with a passion for literature, political philosophy, and history and moved into the sciences. I suspect that it's been happening on a low level for a while. Allan Bloom's Closing of the American Mind was pointing out this intellectual terrain thirty years ago. He clearly saw this coming. It reminds me of a compelling documentary that I saw about five Russian scientist friends who were Soviet dissidents who defected. One of them admitted that the STEM pull for them was that it was the one space where they had some freedom.
This is just awful, and it's only going to get worse. There is now a whole cottage industry that experiences the cupidity of building a profession out of moral self righteousness.
Steve enjoys dating certain social and intellectual turnarounds, so I'll take my own crack. I could never completely drink anyone's coolaid, but I mixed in pretty hard left circles for a long time. Though I was long off campus by the time, I could see this kind of stuff really coalescing around the mid-nineties. I suspect it was already hard underway on the coasts, but it was percolating in flyover country by then- that is, moving out of the theories of various hyphenated -studies majors and zine rants into real everyday practice. This obsession with defining oneself as a series of bumperstickers identities really took off as a fad then. I suspect the finally reaching the average person then had a lot to do with helping move it along. I thought he handled it well. Looked calm. Didn’t back down. Let the crazy mulatta have her say. Did you want him to put up his dukes?
He’s probably a hero to the other professors on campus who now are seeing what they’ve wrought.
Isn’t it enough that we import cellphones from China? We now have to import Mao’s management tactics as well?
Steve, you have suggested several times that the US Government should establish a procedure to examine the government decisions that resulted in the legal immigration of foreigners who subsequently committed terrorist mass murders and other heinous crimes.
Likewise, universities ought to establish a procedure to examine the university decisions that resulted in the enrollment of students who turn out to be grossly maladjusted for a university culture and who frighten even the faculty and staff.
How was this bizarre coed admitted into extremely selective Yale University?
The administration should re-examine:
* her high-school studies and extra-curricular activities
* the recommendations written by her teachers, etc.
* her application essay
* her test scores (SAT, etc.)
* the selection committee’s reasoning for favoring her over other applicants.
Obviously, she was not sufficiently mature, intelligent or educated to become a Yale student.
Evaluating this selection decision retrospectively, Yale University should learn some lessons to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
I COULD read all about it at FIRE.org, but why would I want to?
The FIRE link to the letter needs a “#’ at the end:

I have friends who are not going to class, who are not doing their homework, who are losing sleep, who are skipping meals, and who are having breakdowns. I feel drained. And through it all, Christakis has shown that he does not consider us a priority.”
Whiny crazy people should be everyone’s priority.
The guy sounds like a caricature of an emasculated SWPL. I have no sympathy for him. None. This is the kind of university that people like him (and probably he himself) labored to create. He helped make this problem. Let him be consumed by it.
I’m sure the American Great Leap Forward‘s centerpiece will be to go from enforcing diversity in the macro (cities, schools, corporations) to the micro (friends, family, sex partners).
The crowd seems to become markedly more black as the video proceeds.
Halloween would have to be abolished entirely if Transylvanian-Americans ever rose up in protest against the stereotyping of vampires.
I am totally offended.

#1. Never before has the top leadership of this country been so inbred. Then entire Supreme Cuort is Harvard or Yale. Almost every major party nominee for President since Bush I is Harvard or Yale. They just need to roll those two school into one and make them the equivalent of France’s ENA, drop the pretext of intellectual diversity, and embrace an institution of a direct pipeline to leadership.

Will Trump triumph over all this through sheer force of Nietzchean will? Would a Hercules of even dictatorial powers be able to clear out the Augean stables of piled up Universalist, Liberal, Anglo-Saxon poo? No, because a leader is limited by his human material. The weakness of all post-Enlightenment utopian schemes of any stripe is the belief in the essential sense and goodness of the volk.
I have little or no faith in the wisdom of the average American. We can only claim they have been “misled” or “fooled” so many times without finally admitting they are largely suckers, although many are savvy enough when it comes to their individual finances.
When I think about what this country faces, the genuinely ruthless or grandiose plutocrats, bureaucrats single-mindedly committed to the expansion and survival of their institutions (like J. Edgar Hoover, Cheney or Gates), embittered, ruthless nihilists and hustlers like Ahmed Chalabi from societies characterized by millenia of mistrust and subterfuge, it’s hard to have any hope. What is Congress? At best a collection consisting mostly of Harry Angstroms, who are a manifestation of the people they represent. (Another conceit of liberals is the line drawn between leaders and the people. With the exception of conquerors, leaders aren’t aliens, they are manifestations, symptoms, products of their peoples.)
I suspect that only a major geopolitical crisis or full on war- not Isis fun and games- a major economic implosion or [non Big Pharma manufactured] health crisis will stop this. But will it result in anything better? Americans will continue to be Americans.
I suspect the future will be the ongoing death by a thousand microaggressive cuts made possible by fundamental weaknesses and unrecognized contradictions in our culture and the Constitution.
All a President Trump need do is to copy this policy. This should be easy due to Trump self financing his run at the Presidency thus not being beholden to the RNC and Republican party hacks and bottom feeder DC lobbyists. Thus a Trump administration populated by Donald Trump mini-mes. I am looking forward to this!
To the victor belong the spoils. Spoils here being appointing exactly who Trump feels will best carry out Trumpian policy on immigration, trade etc etc
Yale appears well on its way to becoming one of the better Historically Black Colleges.
Of all the horrific tendencies on display in this video, the rise of “snaps” (the simultaneous finger clicking you hear from the crowd) as a signal of social/group approval (replacing applause) is most terrifying. Closely related to the “up twinkles” hand gesture which first gained widespread notoriety during the Occupy protests, the practice would seem to be ripe for use as a device in a horror movie set on campus. One good thing, much harder to drown out your opposition with snaps than applause (though these proto-fascists don’t seem to have much trouble shouting someone down anyway).
5000 undergraduates and 5000 faculty, so in reality a minuscule proportion even if we ignore the many times that number who would be alumni or students from other universities. An angry tiny minority who should be faced down, Trump style.
I am Hungarian and I find it offensive that the Wallachian prince Vlad Dracul is assumed to be Transylvanian when Transylvania at the time was still part of Hungary. I’m sure it’s also offensive to the Hungarian minority in Transylvania. This girl wants to culturally appropriate Transylvania for herself.
I am totally offended.
So who ended up with the right to dress up as a fairy godmother?
That’s more or less their marketing slogan anyway, such as it is.
Besides, if they called too much attention to themselves, the rest of academia would figure out what they’re up to. Best to keep their mouths shut–if you want to engage with the Great Books of the West, you know where to go anyway (not necessarily there).

U of Chicago has an equally insane liberal administration. Last I checked they couldn’t name a building after Milton Friedman because monetarism is too offensive. A younger me made the mistake of backing down from the free speech policing on campus and I know it has only gotten worse since then.
How could a Yale student feel unsafe on Yale campus? They are part of the .001% of most privilidged Americans.
People say, "how will these people live in the real world, which cannot be controlled the way a college campus is?" The answer is that (to the extent that they ever leave campus and don't wrangle jobs as diversity studies professors) they will gravitate mostly to other "safe spaces" and if forced into the real world, they will demand that the rest of America also be turned into a safe space for them. No (metaphorically) sharp objects will be permitted - First Amendment be damned. You already hear these people saying that the 1st Amendment only applies to government action. So if you want to have a job, you will have to toe their line or else they will apply pressure on your employer to fire you.
I love the idea of the Pinterest page with "suggested" good and bad Halloween costumes. The actual pages didn't really offer much comedy gold, unfortunately. I did glean that dressing as Rosie the Riveter is good, because she is a strong female figure. I don't know whether it is OK/expected for guys to also dress as Rosie, but I assume it is. I also love the idea of abolishing House "Masters" - how racist can you get? I don't know what we could change this to, though. Anything else - house chieftain, house sheikh, etc. would be cultural appropriation, just as evil as dressing up as a samurai or in a turban. I understand that dressing as inanimate object is still OK in most cases. The students should force the professor to wear a dunce cap …
“Dunce caps” look suspiciously like Klan hoods, so the resulting micro- and nano-aggressions, might very well endanger the very fabric of the Universe itself. But it that really a bad thing? I have it on good authority that the Universe itself is not only a right-wing realm, one that is positively rife with racism & misogyny, but that at its very core, it is deeply transphobic. DEEPLY!
At this point, Maoism, agrarian revolution of the rural population against urban elites, would be a good thing for the US.
Unsafe doesn’t really mean “unsafe” – it means “any expression of a worldview that is different than the conventional leftist POV”. Subconsciously they realize that their worldview is as shaky as a house of cards and so they must live in an environment where no breezes are permitted. They are like bubble boy, who will die if he is removed from his safe bubble. If you were bubble boy and you saw people around you wielding anything pointy (forget about knives – umbrellas, scissors, etc.) you would panic in exactly the way that these folks are panicking.
People say, “how will these people live in the real world, which cannot be controlled the way a college campus is?” The answer is that (to the extent that they ever leave campus and don’t wrangle jobs as diversity studies professors) they will gravitate mostly to other “safe spaces” and if forced into the real world, they will demand that the rest of America also be turned into a safe space for them. These movements do look dumb. But if not opposed , this will become conventional wisdom in a few years.
That was my joke.
I enjoy the Twitter trolls who respond to the “cultural appropriation” arguments about Halloween costumes by pointing out that Halloween is a white holiday and minorities should not participate lest they appropriate white culture.
The TRS/pol guys are the saving grace of the millenial generation :)
I engage in acerbic mocking here and there, mostly on youtube.
Where is Ray Rice when you need him?
This is about power, and religion. A mostly Black crowd shouting down an older White man. Who has the power? Not the Older White Professor for sure.
Black people have most of the power in the United States and the West.
Black people are immune from criticism and it is taboo to criticize them. By contrast Jews and Israelis are constantly criticized by Blacks and particularly by Muslims, and the BDS movement is not only mainstream but opposing it in the US and Europe/Canada/Australia/NZ marks one for ostracism. [Jews are White and thus lack power where it counts.]
Blacks and non-White allies are moving into ever greater control over people’s daily lives. This battle is over which Halloween costumes are politically/religiously correct. It is a religious battle over the White Original Sin and Black Redemption that has formed religious life since Jesus 2.0, Chocolate Edition (Martin Luther King).
And the religious battle is part of the massive changes ongoing in Western society. As Obama observed, his mother’s precious rural Indonesia had no real changes to its social structure or wider society in over a thousand years. Everything stayed the same, which led to a settled certainty and complacency but also poverty. The West has since the start of the High Middle Ages embraced technology: the moldboard plow (to fully cultivate the heavy sod of Europe), the stirrup, the longbow, the windmill, the water mill. And that made them wealthy, far before exploration and colonization. Bruges was considered the richest city in the world in 1200 off the wool trade and the enormous wealth wool cloth created.
So far we have transitioned from three TV networks to cable / satellite hundreds of channels (which no one watched) to cord-cutting and broadcast (with dozens to hundreds of digital tv channels — I get over 140 alone in Orange County) and internet on demand TV. That means no more “voice of authority” like Walter Cronkite and shared TV rituals, instead massive fracturing along identity/interest lines. Professional working lives went from advancement in one company to job and region hopping, gig work, and internet based employment. We’ve gone from a nation that was still 85% White in 1970 or so to one about 62% White or less.
This change unsettles the dominant PC religion which is new, uncertain, and based on race. Hence the constant struggles. Mao after all unleashed the Cultural Revolution to destroy rivals in the Party, and their base of the educated, professional classes. There was a reason that Professors and middle class students were ritually humiliated and sent to clean out pig farms in the hinterlands, while priceless artifacts and cultural history was obliterated. And of course there was a reason it stopped — a nation cannot run on ideological purity when faced by competent foreign enemies. The threat posed by the Soviets even under the aging and corrupt Brezhnev era leadership forced first Mao then his successors to end the campaigns.
What sort of leadership will Yale produce now? Those convinced of Black Redemption and purity, and White original sin, and the power of slogans to command the seas. That is not going to be good for people living here.
serious STEM students are actually, ignoring the Ivies…they know they have a long way to go (Master’s, PhD, other studies) so they go to the U’s that give them the most amount of scholarship money. I know several students who pay NO tuition (2nd, 3rd tier U’s & state U)…because they are so highly intelligent and, have the national tests (extra math tests) to prove their merit.
Yale is not what everyone thinks it is anymore; it is full of middling students who are chosen by admissions boards because of what they represent…not by their IQ. Breakdown of a typical Ivy class : 45-50% minorities/first gens/under represented whatever; 10-12% foreign; 20-25% athletes (teams that win make alumni gleefully donate more to Alma Mater); 20% the truly gifted/high IQ STEM kids….and, that’s it. So, only 20% are what had been about 80% in the past as far as pure IQ.
The upshot is, more state U’s and less known U’s will produce more future trailblazers/prize winners/scientists/technologists who actually create industries. U of Illinois still milks the Google founders as well as little Reed College with Jobs.
I think what disturbs me most about this incident at Yale, is the unhinged crazy-talk by the students who are screaming at him. It is just frightening. You would be restrained and thrown off at the nearest airport if you pulled this kind of sh*t on Finnair and many other foreign airplanes. Who would hire these kinds of nincompoops? These students are too stupid to realize that once your crazy/quasi-violent screaming is on the internet, it may doom you to ever get accepted anywhere else. I would never hire such a volatile, emotional, unhinged person. I can’t stand angry people.

The thing about the core element of STEM – engineering – is that most of the people who go into it actually want to get a job and make some filthy lucre, so for them the screeds of the “vibrant” communities are just not particularly important. I’ve noticed over the last few years that my younger co-workers skew somewhat more Democratic than Republican, but I chalk some of this up to just being in California (although the field in question, aerospace engineering, tends to be among the more politically conservative engineering fields). And core values like free speech, religious freedom, gun rights, etc., are rigorously supported.

Why does everyone assume a Yale graduate is more intelligent than a University of Connecticut graduate, for example? I went to neither institution so nothing personal in this but while poorly educated psychos may be an exclusive club, it is not a club I would want to hire from. I am sure there are very bright students at Yale but I think I might rather see the SAT score and high school grades before hiring. That might be a better standard than the university. Every time I see videos like this I do have to question why our HR selects candidates in part based on their undergraduate school. It does not seem like a good substitute for an IQ test.
I hesitate to bring up a Harvard vs Yale competition, but I will say, having seen and heard about any number of recent graduates from each, that Yalies just seem many times more affected and preening than those from Harvard, who seem, oddly, rather more normal.
A much higher disproportion of Yalies (most especially women) seem to talk in an almost absurdly exaggerated manner — fast talking, up talking, vocal deep frying, etc. I could posit a number of explanations — “We’re Number Two. We impress harder!” is a good candidate — but there’s just something out of whack about that place.
Mounting cell phone video evidence like this is building the widespread notion that these BLM types are the villains not the victims. The left wing narrative on this is really going to flip.
Also, while black Americans do block vote for racist hard left Obama, and have general block support for Trayvon and Michael Brown and even OJ, a lot of regular blacks actually realize that Obama is racist, Trayvon and Michael Brown bore large responsibility for their fates, and OJ was guilty. The ridiculous left wing narrative will flip. Ideally, this crowd would do a better job of putting public pressure on that.
Don't depend on them to effect any change. They are terrified of their fellow kinsmen.
Last year I was told by a younger female cousin she wouldn't speak, socialise or in any way associate herself with right- wing, racist, sexist or "homophobic" people. At that point she didn't really know where I stood on some issues. Needless to say, I was soon made a pariah by her and her side of the family.

I think white Latinos have it best. They get all the perks of whiteness (yes Virginia, there is a white privilege) but they are also able to avoid the disadvantages by hiding behind their “minority” heritage. Rubio would seem to be the prime example of this. He was on GMA the other day selling himself and he said something like: “Look how diverse the GOP is: there’s three minorities and a woman running for president”). Then Stephanopoulos gracefully allowed Rubio to save face from his stupid comment by saying “and three political outsiders.”
Rubio was obviously including his fellow [half] Cuban candidate Ted Cruz as one of the “minority” candidates. The funny thing is Cruz is probably the most melanin-deprived candidate running. He looks like he’d get melanoma if he spent more than five minutes unprotected in the summer sun.

The current breakdown may be bad, but not nearly as bad as you say. Nor was the past glorious – places like Yale were full of George W. Bush/ John Kerry/Teddy Kennedy types – the not-too-bright sons of rich men, more interested in drinking and partying than academics.
Yale is 40% minority. 13% have family income under $40K.
11% foreign.
According to the NY Times, recruited athletes make up about 13% of each Ivy League class. A Yale survey shows that 11% of respondents were recruited athletes and another 4% hope to walk on.
The only thing up for debate is the percent of truly gifted which I am sure Yale would say is 100%.

Jack D…..ah yes Rosie the Riveter and slightly OT . I remember years ago working for a company that installed heavy duty overhead conveyors. The man I worked with told me a story about falling for a Rosie who worked at the Curtis Wright airplane factory here in Buffalo during WWII. He had an employment deferment because the contractor was doing vital defense work. One day, while up in the steel trusses measuring for an installation he looked down in to the partially assembled fuselage of a plane. Those below could not see him because he was above the lights. There was his beloved Rosie getting “riveted” from behind by her foreman. He enlisted the next day. Strong woman indeed, mistress of the vaginal vise.

I have a background in food festivals, setting them up and facilitating them, and I have had the misfortune of meeting a lot of black women who act just as this girl does. A simple request , such as” excuse me , could you please move your group over to there because you’re blocking my food servers”…would result in a heated response about how…” no one was going to tell me what to do, where to stand etc. ” Finger waving head bobbing stereotype. The anger would well up and I would say….”Ok, no prob.” and I would signal security and have them removed from the site. Armed, off duty cops are the only way to go if you ever run an event. I showed the video to my wife and had her read the offensive email on FIRE.org. My wife, the saint, generous supporter of African missions and community out reach programs …..called the girl….the “N” word. But will we ever see a video like this, and there are dozens of them, played on a loop on cable news. No never.

Looks like his group (which BTW is upping its legal staff) is getting ready to hold Yale’s balls to The FIRE (.org).
As well it should.
FWIW, I note that one of the founders of The FIRE was the only person at my alma mater to stand up for the student in the infamous “water buffalo” incident.
Still, I see this as the logical outcome of Frankfurt School Eskimo bolshies taking charge of higher ed (and indeed the entire Ed Biz). It could only lead to this.
Let’s hope it’s possible to reclaim our academies from screechy little girls who think the job of a master of an Ivy League college is to be a housewife.
I.e., from the linked FIRE piece:
““Who the fuck hired you?” she asked, arguing that Christakis should “step down” because being master is “not about creating an intellectual space,” but rather “creating a home.””
This is precisely why so many men didn’t want to let women en masse into universities. This is the only mentality many can bring–displacement of (thwarted) energies for making homes for babies and children.
Some academics helped create the grievance culture; others were silent; others rebelled and lost their jobs and more.
Don’t oversimplify this. I’m one of many many people who left careers in the Ed Biz on my own terms rather than facing the inevitable of having life, job, marriage, family, health, everything ruined by one of these great-grand-sprogs of the Frankfurt School bolshies. As punishment for not thinking like they.
It’s why I chose my current path. Was it wrong? Can’t say. I only know that history seems to teach that when tulip hysteria takes root in the mass psyche, it’s got to run its course, like a pandemic.
I see Adidas has now jumped on this bandwagon, promising to “help” high schools change their “offensive” mascots.

And this “leadership” has a strong incentive to perpetuate the myth that all whites enjoy the illegitimate privilege that in fact only this narrow group of whites enjoy. Likewise to a lesser extent with males, straights, etc..
So they hire professors, reporters, admission committees, HR, etc… exclusively from those who have bought into that myth and are devoted to perpetuating it. The students, stories, etc follow.

“Even today, is it conceivable for a man to allow himself to be heard whining like this?”
Erm. You need to spend more time in the AA sectors of universities.
One of the biggest campus issues of late is men whining to be allowed into women’s rooms on the grounds that they are actually women. In the infrastructure sector (the tradespeople who keep these academic small-cities running), there is beaucoup frustration at present about the invented need for “transgender bathroom facilities.” These males reject the already available unisex or handicapped/ADA bathrooms.
Also, try hanging around men who can’t get over the fact that they made lousy or stupid mating choices. They can’t let their exes go and will spend way more time clinging to their victimization than remaking their lives.
When men revolve their lives around the need for a special place to whizz and plop, or staying connected to their mistakes, you know your society is approaching Maximum Degenerate.
I skipped the video. Was the black chick saying that my Sambo costume will or will not be acceptable at Yale next Halloween?
If blackface is a no-go (or would compromise the “space’s” “safeness”) could I get away with Drunk Indian or some kind of Shylock/Eternal Jew get up? Could somebody give me an executive summary?
That makes Yale one damn expensive apartment community. What do tuition, room and board come to at Yale these days? $61,600 per year. If these people want a home they should take the solid quarter million they're spending to rent a tiny space at Yale for four years and buy themselves one.
These videos exemplify much of the bullshit behind the claims that diversity enhances the classroom experience. What diversity actually does is make it a lot harder to talk honestly in classrooms about anything that offends NAMs, Muslims, or any group that is especially irked at the slightest criticism of their culture.Replies: @Olorin

Seems to me this is related.
This story on the prohibition of discipline in LAUSD boggles the mind. This seems like a great way to destroy minority achievement. (I think the genetics HBD argument leaves some room for peers in school effects.) Its also the approach Obama wants implemented nation-wide. Does he secretly just hate the black and latino kids? He can’t believe this will work, can he?
And, yes, this will affect mostly black and latino kids. The whites have already moved away, and the asian parents won’t stay in these schools for long.
As has been noted before, thanks to Worldstar Hip Hop, Live Leak, and YouTube, the preponderance of evidence of black people, filmed by black people, exhibiting themselves as collectively prone towards degenerate behavior, will slowly but surely brand itself on the collective American subconscious, so that even liberals will find themselves clutching their collective purses every time a black person gets on an elevator with them, for generations to come.
If I were a black student at Yale, the last thing I’d do is start screaming expletives, while removing my backpack, leading the viewer to believe their could be violence to come, while having a discussion with an administrator.
I would reason that, in my privileged position, as a black person attending Yale university, it would be my responsibility to demonstrate that black people don’t tend toward violent and/or irrational behavior, and feeble-mindedness, and that I wasn’t a student at Yale simply because of their sublimated affirmative action policies.
These shrill black students have contributed to this “negative stereotype” that will not serve their generation well. Viewers may not reason it out in their minds that blacks have a tendency towards violence and low emotional IQ, but subconsciously, it will be reinforced as the “rules of the game,” when dealing with black people at any level.
It wouldn’t be acceptable for me to go through life as a black person knowing my achievements stand, in part, because other people feel sorry for my wretched lot in life, and are giving me things due to their pity.
Unfortunately, these black students have done their part to ensure they will be pitied, and any real achievements by them will be considered an exception to the very far right of their races bell curve.
Most of the “black” students in the Ivy League are either the children of immigrants or have a non-black parent. New York Mayor De Blasio’s son Dante started Yale this fall. Steven Spielberg’s son Theo is a Yale graduate. The Crouch quadruplets, Yale graduates, have a white father and a Nigerian mother.

Instead, he proved himself a total wuss by taking to Twitter to actually defend that girl:
And how come no one’s commented on the post-yelling scene in which a 300-lb black man in a dark suit is having some kind of conversation with the good professor? What’s with that? Who’s the big man? A dean of inclusion and equity perhaps schooling the professor on etiquette when being spoken to by a black person? He’s standing awfully close to the professor — looming would be the word — closer than seems consistent with a friendly attitude.

I think Christakis handled the situation very well. Its very hard for a grown man to deal with a teenage girl’s temper tantrum. He loses if it appears he is bullying her or lets it get physical and he loses if he backs down.

Speaking of the Great and the Good, at Oxford, students want the statue of Cecil Rhodes taken down:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/07/world/europe/oxford-students-want-statue-of-cecil-rhodes-removed.html?src=me
But I don’t see why we should stop there. I think that any mention of the Rhodes Scholarship should be erased from all resumes and biographies of recipients, and the monies and emblems returned. And, of course, all potential recipients should remove themselves from consideration forthwith.
Because what are these people — racists?
And remember, if you are the son or daughter of a Nigerian immigrant(s), you get the 300 point AA bonus. Even if your Nigerian parent is a doctor living in Greenwich, CT. And you get to lord your discriminated against status to everybody, ignoring the fact that the “white supremacists” allowed your parents to move to country where they could do 100X better than back in Lagos.

In fact, the Rhodes Scholarship is a thousand times worse than any statue, because it couldn’t be more obviously rewarding and celebrating colonialism — its recipients are deliberately selected almost exclusively among those from a former British colony.
How much more racist can these recipients be if they don’t reject this disgusting history of colonialism?

I wouldn’t discriminate but I’d abolish affirmative action. Blacks will simply have to score in the top % on SATs or ACTs.
Basically I’d return to the admission standards in place when WEB DuBois went to Harvard.
But the big problem with a diverse university is that everybody will hate each other. Especially the way everybody has to tip toe around micro-agression etc. And people that didn't like each other are not usually going to give the big bucks.

I’m all for promoting the STEM culture. I also support promoting the overachieving East Indians and Chinese at universities. Why? Because I’m so fucking sick of “STEM”! I’m my day guys studied technical and scientific stuff because they had a passion for it. We built homemade rockets, go karts from spare lawnmowers, shortwave radios that could tune in the Soviets. Most of us ended up at solid second-tier public universities because we spent our free time in cool and time-consuming stuff, and mostly, chasing girls. We sure as hell didn’t spend our free time studying the SAT (which my East Asian wife’s nephew at Caltech did, all summer long and on weekends and evenings all through high school). I say let STEM go to these overachieving people. White males have dominated long enough. White males (US/USSR/Russia) sent men orbiting earth and spacecraft to other planets over a half-century ago. White males landed men on the moon over 45 years ago. Indians and Chinese are each over a billion strong so they should have the largest talent pool. Yes, both are over a half-century behind (even given all of the technology and know-how from the white male), but I’m sure they will blossom soon enough. Yes, the most recent Indian missle launch failed, but at least they’re trying, and, most importantly, they have such confidence in themselves (because all the Indians I work with tell me they are “bery, bery smaaht”).

The schools themselves create this nonsense. The administration hires left-wing profs who indoctrinate and encourage the little pests to behave like this. If you want to be able to prevent this, stop donating to your raving liberal alma mater, and tell them why you’ve put them on your blacklist. Tell them your donation is going to (insert name of conservative college here). It is very much a nurture effect. There aren’t many places outside of a college campus where this sort of labile behavior flies; I think you could add your Portland ORs and Santa Monicas too but those towns are operated by the same nutters currently f’ing up the universities. I know the case. But clearly (as illustrated here) a university diploma is no substitute for an IQ test. I have little or no faith in the wisdom of the average American. We can only claim they have been "misled" or "fooled" so many times without finally admitting they are largely suckers, although many are savvy enough when it comes to their individual finances.
When I think about what this country faces, the genuinely ruthless or grandiose plutocrats, bureaucrats single-mindedly committed to the expansion and survival of their institutions (like J. Edgar Hoover, Cheney or Gates), embittered, ruthless nihilists and hustlers like Ahmed Chalabi from societies characterized by millenia of mistrust and subterfuge, it's hard to have any hope. What is Congress? At best a collection consisting mostly of Harry Angstroms, who are a manifestation of the people they represent. (Another conceit of liberals is the line drawn between leaders and the people. With the exception of conquerors, leaders aren't aliens, they are manifestations, symptoms, products of their peoples.)
I suspect that only a major geopolitical crisis or full on war- not Isis fun and games- a major economic implosion or [non Big Pharma manufactured] health crisis will stop this. But will it result in anything better? Americans will continue to be Americans.

Have you noticed how lazy Obama is? He is the ultimate slacker president and can afford to be due to universally appointing clones of himself in cabinet positions on down. These motivated (axes to grind) and energetic younger clones are the ones creating the Obama mayhem. All a President Trump need do is to copy this policy. Seen from here (Paris, France) it looks like mobbing. Anti-white bullying of low intensity (only two people are targeted, namely the Christakises) but the mob wants them to lose their jobs. The mob goes for the jugular. The Halloween thing is a flimsy pretext. What is at stake is power: the diversity mob (for want of a better term) wants to see how strong it is, and positions itself for a post-white America, which everyone feels is coming.

Is she a total crybaby, or an ambitious, manipulative person, trying to build her post-white credibility on anti-white bullying, like ambitious, manipulative young Germans in the 30’s tried to build their nationalistic credibility on anti-semitism?
Whatever she is, it’s bad news for American whites that people like her are likely to be in positions of power in the next decades.
It’s just an annoying speech pattern common among young women. You’ve definitely come across it before. Huh, I guess it’s not vulgar enough for Urban Dictionary. Lots of examples on YouTube.
Where’s that second video?
That’s because there’s no such thing. But “vocal fry” does exist. AKA “Talking like a Kardashian” –

I found the video with the huge black guy. I didn’t actually think he was threatening, but could have been.
Very informative for Eastasian, South Asian and Ashkenazic Jewish Yalies (themselves “minorities,” albeit unfashionable ones) who still buy into the standard leftist pieties. Gee, *there’s* what “two standard deviations down” looks and sounds like IRL. Like it?

Also, while black Americans do block vote for racist hard left Obama, and have general block support for Trayvon and Michael Brown and even OJ, a lot of regular blacks actually realize that Obama is racist, Trayvon and Michael Brown bore large responsibility for their fates, and OJ was guilty. Have you read Bonfire of the Vanities? There is a character like that. Mrs. Langdon I think is her name. She is the archetype that knows & agrees that most black complaints are BS and they are their own worst enemies. She just sits back as the others chimp out. When she talks to whites alone she is a different person.
Don’t depend on them to effect any change. They are terrified of their fellow kinsmen.
The professor handled that about as well as it could be handled. He didn’t back down, didn’t lose his temper, just stood rhere and let her melt down and make a fool of herself. This wasn’t an environment where pointing out logical holes in her statement was going to help, because the woman yelling at him (and probably a lot of the crowd) wasn’t making any kind of logical argument.

You misunderstand Griggs. For any position requiring intellectual talents employers can, most certainly, require an IQ test if they wanted. Griggs said you couldn’t require them for positions where intelligence wasn’t necessary (without spelling out precisely which fields that might encompass). The facts of the case involved janitorial hiring IIRC. Since college prestige mostly tells you the same information, employers have gone with that instead. Plus, they aren’t looking exclusively for smart people but also want the well-rounded.
The Supreme Court held that since neither of these tests was tied to the skills needed for a particular job and since they would clearly have a "disparate impact" on Negroes who were generally dumber, the tests were not permitted. In other words, doing well on IQ tests is a proxy for race and so can't be used (unless the test is closely tied to job performance).Replies: @Curle
Of course, I am not sure what your point is. Most Ivy League athletes are white. Most sports don’t have any black participants. There are about as many Asian athletes as blacks in the Ivy League. Foreign athletes are well represented.
I just randomly selected a few men’s sports for blacks or Asians (total number of athletes in parentheses):
Yale basketball (18) 5 African-Americans
Yale track and field (50) 2 Asian-Americans, 4 African-Americans, 1 foreign black
Yale swimming and diving (36) 8 Asian-Americans, 2 foreign Asians
Yale fencing (20) 8 Asian-Americans
Yale baseball (27) 1 Asian-American
Yale squash (16) 1 Asian-American, 4 foreign Asians
Yale golf (10) 1 Asian-American , 1 foreign Asian
Football has a lot of blacks but I was too lazy to count. There are 2 Asian-Americans on the team.
I do not think college prestige tells you anything at all about intelligence, education, manners, or “well-roundedness” any longer, not if this is what Yale produces.
Your recollection is wrong. Duke Power had 5 departments. 1) Labor, (2) Coal Handling, (3) Operations, (4) Maintenance, and (5) Laboratory and Test. Pre-civil rights, Negroes were employed only in the Labor Department. After Title VII was passed, the Company began to permit incumbent employees who lacked a high school education to qualify for transfer from Labor or Coal Handling to an “inside” job by passing two tests — the Wonderlic Personnel Test or the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test.
The Supreme Court held that since neither of these tests was tied to the skills needed for a particular job and since they would clearly have a “disparate impact” on Negroes who were generally dumber, the tests were not permitted. In other words, doing well on IQ tests is a proxy for race and so can’t be used (unless the test is closely tied to job performance).
Right, per my point about whether the job required intellectual performance. It is only a proxy for race where the tested feature, intelligence, is irrelevant. The employer needs to show the relevance, but that isn't particularly hard for jobs aside from basic labor such as janitorial especially in this age of mass post-high school education. If you need to fill a position requiring any significant level of independent judgement, you can almost certainly employ an IQ test if you so desire. People have avoided that question by using proxies.Replies: @Triumph104

Apologies for not being clear enough in my post – I was speaking specifically about people, especially American citizens, in engineering who are planning to get a job in the private sector instead of return to his/her home country to get a job in government. And lots of people in aerospace engineering work in defense, where most people must be American citizens in order to get a security clearance.
But you hit on something that has puzzled me – lots of really nasty people from authoritarian countries have engineering degrees. Mohammed Atta, for example, plus the ones you mentioned. I don’t know why that is; would be a good topic for some adventurous academic to study.

False. The mismatch is so great as to result in total lack of mutual intelligibility. In my experience black AA admits think the white people on campus are straight up retarded. What they say just doesn’t make any sense to them, so they think it’s actual nonsense. Their sense of superiority is rendered especially resilient by the fact that they’re heavily concentrated in paper-based classes taught by people who believe Ta-Nehisi Coates to be the greatest writer/social scientist of all time.
I'm amazed at how many here ascribe their own responses to blacks. The self-esteem and narcissistic traits of blacks simply cannot be overestimated.

Nastiness and authoritarian states are confounding variables. Various engineering degrees consistently rank at the top of the most valuable degrees that you can get. A high-performing student with a background from a poor country is quite likely to study something that will guarantee employment and a decent paycheck. It’s the same reason more women from countries marked by strong gender inequality get STEM degrees than women from countries with a lot of freedom, who veer closer to conventionally feminine, less lucrative interests. As for quality of character, engineering degrees tend to require an exacting nature, and maybe that lends itself to being an unlikable sort .
Nope, my experience and observations wrt blacks’ self esteem and POV are the same as yours. Anything incomprehensible or intelligible to them is retarded or lame or stupid. The failure to understand is never theirs.

To the extent ethnocentrism is a natural human instinct and that racism is a word that once described how far one would take one’s ethnocentrism and now signifies any thought, idea or notion that might undermine equalist fables and therapy enterprises, I’m not sure Obama is any more or less ‘racist’ than anyone else. If he has a sin I suspect it is knowing full well the limitations of his race/coalition and pretending otherwise and if he has a strength it is knowing the weaknesses of the white race (lunatic levels of guilt, universalism and ethnomasochism) and having the guts to capitalize on that knowledge. I can only imagine his pleasure when it became inevitable that he would be facing off against first a chump like John McCain and later an even bigger chump like Mitt Romney.
My reflexive response to police brutality/Black Lives Matter stories is that, were I the cop, I’d probably have wanted to shoot them. Yes, there are bad cops and I’ve run across them myself, but there are a whole lot more bad Blacks.

Political correctness is what happened when women were allowed to participate in men’s conversation – in academia, in business, in churches, in politics, in the home. It has replaced male discourse, because it is hostile and intolerant to anything but itself.
---
Women have been participating freely in western intellectual life for at least a few centuries now, but until recently, those were women who had to follow the male ways of doing things. For some of those women, (Emmy Noether comes to mind), it might have not been that hard to think male. For the others, thinking and acting male may not have been natural, but it unambiguously was expected of them, so they put in the effort.
Needless to say, this is not expected of them anymore...

OT: the ONLY campus that is serious is the venerable Caltech...all other elite schools have drunk the same Kool-Aid as far as student selection, including Chicago, which someone commented upon.Replies: @AndrewR, @Reginald Maplethorp
Even Caltech is going down the tubes. Academic standards at the Institute are eroding and the student body is becoming blander every year (no, not in the diversity sense–more like the students perpetrate fewer inventive pranks).
At the same time, nationwide, the competition to get into elite schools (with foreign students, too) is just so bad that it prevents students to even develop a wild, creative side since they must be robotic/systematic about their grades, test scores, accomplishments from about 13-18 yrs old...so, no time to be exuberant. And, I still believe talented STEM professionals (at least the ones I've known all my life) did a lot of crazy stuff, dabbled in the arts, media, sports, extreme outdoor pursuits, were amazing cooks or just had some side to them that was just fun.
I am sometimes around elite U students, and I find many to be very fearful of making a mistake, state an opinion, do something off-the-wall. Is this due to excessive helicopter parenting? The conformity of thought and behavior is frightening!
Well, when I think about it, when I was a freshman at an elite U way back, I found many students incredibly over protected and naive even then...except of course, the stoners, athletes and creative types...an occasional science student. Obviously, these same fellow freshman had extreme difficulties with booze, sex, relationships, and how to burn the candle at both ends. I had wanted to go to Berkeley (instead of colleges on the east coast,) but my father was in poor health, and he felt California was too far.

I was doing a phd at Yale for a bit. I taught several times. There are usually about one or two very smart students in a class at most. Most are mediocre and some are functionally illiterate. This isn’t always who you think it might be. Places like Yale can often skim the brightest blacks so they’re usually not the worst; some of the African students are actually not bad. The worst were often “other” non-Asian POC; among them were people who were so bad that it’s difficult to see how they could pass a simple literacy test, let alone be in a university at all. Also among the worst were white (or Jewish) girls. These last were the most consistently mediocre or awful, also often near illiterate, almost always incoherent and emotional. It’s made me understand that affirmative action has mostly been designed to help white (or Jewish) girls. The blacks and other POC are there in small numbers and for “cover.” Otherwise the real scandal would be that 50% or more of these universities is there because of something like affirmative action. This doesn’t mean there aren’t smart girls in these classes, but it’s very, very rare.
This is the biggest reason for grade inflation. There are many who should be failed but you can’t fail them, so they get good grades. And then of course you have to raise everyone’s grades.
The athletes at Yale and these schools by the way are generally good. They’re smart, as smart as any other student, and often there are very, very smart guys among them. They’re also white and generally a lot more conservative than the rest of the students, so because of this they are always targeted. A frat is being targeted right now as part of all this, supposedly for allowing only white girls to enter their parties. Being an athlete is one of the few ways a straight white non-Jewish guy can be at these schools. In fact looking back on my time there I don’t remember a single straight non-Jewish white guy who was not an athlete. So they’re targeted, and the frats are targeted. There was another “scandal” a few years ago involving one of the frats.
I see my comment isn’t being approved oh welp
The short story of it is that there is a program to get rid of straight white non-Jewish guys in these schools. But this isn’t so much in favor of blacks or even other non-Azn minorities, but in favor mostly of girls. There are blacks there, there are third world minorities of all kinds, and they’re all generally bad, but they’re few. There are, though, a lot of white girls, and they’re also very bad. I don’t care what test scores like SAT say. These girls can’t put a few sentences together and have generally no ability to think non-emotionally. They are the most consistent promoters of PC. White (and Jewish) girls are the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action, I mean in terms of number.
So you must be patient.
Yes, and then white girls of 'breeding/marrying age' are only around minorities - chances are what few white males there are are gay.
If you’re talking about (inventive pranks) the pranks between MIT & C, I have heard that there is less of that at both schools. But, yes, have heard about the “bland side” as far as dull students. Have also heard that so many Asian (foreign) students have such poor English language skills (despite their high test scores presented with application,) that C has had to simplify formats because these kids are not following, and are too ashamed to admit that.
At the same time, nationwide, the competition to get into elite schools (with foreign students, too) is just so bad that it prevents students to even develop a wild, creative side since they must be robotic/systematic about their grades, test scores, accomplishments from about 13-18 yrs old…so, no time to be exuberant. That’s an interesting observation which puts the racial issue into perspective. The push to get women into these institutions preceded the push to get minorities in. I think a numerical majority of college students now are female?
The current breakdown may be bad, but not nearly as bad as you say. Nor was the past glorious - places like Yale were full of George W. Bush/ John Kerry/Teddy Kennedy types - the not-too-bright sons of rich men, more interested in drinking and partying than academics.Replies: @Triumph104, @Lagertha

It was the shift from "you can't define me" to "I need the most precise definition of myself possible".Replies: @cthulhu, @yaqub the mad scientist, @Desiderius, @Lagertha
As far as #1: do you remember when Rick Perry made a snarky remark about the presidency, and why Texas A & M (his A.M.) could not be considered just as good as the other candidates’ Ivies? Of course, Perry may not be a good example to represent A & M, but one of my “trending,” thoughts is, at what point will SJW’s start stating that it is just more “appropriate and fair” for a presidential candidate to come from a strictly state school or obscure school background? Well, how ’bout never! No, sadly, there is a plan to have everyone conform to liberal (elite liberal) principles, and that control will still come from the ivory towers….hmmm, why did I just think of Mordor and the Eye of Sauron again?
I dressed like a St. Pauli girl complete with my father’s real German beer steins! Came in handy at the frat party after the all-campus Halloween party! And, back in the more hazy days of the early 80’s, I never worried about stumbling back to my dorm room, glass steins intact, pretzel necklace (only personal departure from beer label) still on.

Interesting.
I assume you mean Hispanic, let me know if I am wrong. Since the Ivy League wants their student body to reflect US demographics, there is always a higher percentage of Hispanics than blacks. Perhaps Yale has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to meet the Hispanic quota. Culture and ignorant parents keep a lot of high-performing Hispanics out of elite colleges. Their parents don’t grasp the concept of elite colleges or leaving home in general. I heard of an Hispanic mother who only let her daughter go to Harvard after seeing how excited her co-workers got when she said her daughter had been accepted. Another set of Hispanic parents had never heard of Massachusetts; daughter went to MIT.
The stats back this up. Yale is 47% white. Hillel says Yale is 27% Jewish. That leave about 20% white non-Jewish or roughly 10% white non-Jewish men. About 13% of Yale is recruited athletes.
I think we can take his ardent SJW status as a given. That’s why it depends on whether the uni seeks to ‘punish’ him. Even SJWs gotta eat.

Please notice that your original comment got through. Steve is usually not moderating comments hour by hour. He looks every five hours or so, might be longer during 9-5 workday hours. He checks out the comments, deletes over the top garbage, then releases in large batches.
So you must be patient.
as far as female lawyers go:
Political correctness is what happened when women were allowed to participate in men’s conversation
—
Women have been participating freely in western intellectual life for at least a few centuries now, but until recently, those were women who had to follow the male ways of doing things. For some of those women, (Emmy Noether comes to mind), it might have not been that hard to think male. For the others, thinking and acting male may not have been natural, but it unambiguously was expected of them, so they put in the effort.
Needless to say, this is not expected of them anymore…
I’m guessing that this is being done by the TRS/pol crowd ?
The TRS/pol guys are the saving grace of the millenial generation 🙂
I engage in acerbic mocking here and there, mostly on youtube.
Lagertha, met the St. Pauli girl at a food festival…..she isn’t known for her big beer “steins”
yeah, a major duh! I put on the “freshman 10” drinking too much beer, eating pizza, ice cream all late at night, so I looked the part. Gave my authentic dirndl away recently….for a college girl for a Halloween party at a big southern school!
Of course not all Jews are Bolshies. You can fill in any group for “Jews” and any interesting value for “Bolshie” and the statement remains true.
Does anyone actually say “all Jews are Bolshies” and mean it literally (did you even mean it literally?)?
Unfortunately, far too many Jews are faux leftists (diversity and open borders for whites, Israel for Jews), and far too few support equal rights for whites. I don’t know if I can even name five Jews who are in favor of equal rights for whites, sadly.
It would also contradict Steve’s headline, “no end in sight”!
POC should not appropriate White Europeans pagan traditions. It’s not okay.
The short story of it is that there is a program to get rid of straight white non-Jewish guys in these schools. But this isn't so much in favor of blacks or even other non-Azn minorities, but in favor mostly of girls. There are blacks there, there are third world minorities of all kinds, and they're all generally bad, but they're few. There are, though, a lot of white girls, and they're also very bad. “but in favor mostly of girls”
Yes, and then white girls of ‘breeding/marrying age’ are only around minorities – chances are what few white males there are are gay.
