It’s interesting how Beverly Hills, which went 2 to 1 for Hillary in 2016, is a rare outpost on the West Coast of freedom of assembly for Trump supporters, with thousands rallying there each Saturday. I’m guessing it’s because the well-funded BHPD doesn’t want to let Antifa attack peaceful marchers in Beverly Hills. For example, today some anti-Trump protesters attacked the big Trump rally on Rodeo Drive, but the Beverly Hills cops quickly broke it up and sent the leftists back to their agreed-upon park.

You hear a lot about how Antifa is supposedly rich and Jewish, but in the richest Jewish town in the world, the city has been doing a decent job of maintaining rule of law and freedom of expression.

  1. You hear a lot about how Antifa is supposedly rich and Jewish, but in the richest Jewish town in the world, the city has been doing a decent job of maintaining rule of law and freedom of expression.

Because Antifa supporters, not the actual members and foot soldiers, are more likely to be rich and Jewish and because such sponsors of Antifa violence are not dumb enough to create destruction and lower the property value in their own neighborhoods?

I would never have made the connection, but I think you may be right there. And it does fit the constant Jewish framework "one set of rules for us, another set of rules for everybody else".

Steve can process (((the New York Times))) and (the Eye of Soros))) stirring up trouble in Ferguson while crushing it in CoNY, until he can't.

My fellow anti-semites and I have only been pointing out "for thee but not for me, goy" since forever.

"Jevvs promote open borders, but curiously, the heavily jevvish Israel has closed borders..."

"Fur de goyim" is the missing, explanatory secret sauce.

I'll also point out for the nth time that we simply don't fucking know who antifa are, because Big Media (who we know to be heavily jevvish, increasingly so as one approaches the top) cover for them.

Bingo. Plus, Beverly Hills has become, as far as I can tell, more Persian/Immigrant Jewish. Big political difference between that demographic and the Michelle Goldberg types who typify "Judeo-Puritan" liberalism.

Quite right Twinkie and I'm sure they also reminded the powers that be down at Beverly Hills City Hall and the LA County Tax Collector's office that it would be in their best interest to protect the tax values of their little enclave from any undocumented shopping and unauthorized ceremonial outdoor burnings.

Most Antifa types I've known were not Jewish, but then, most Antifa types I have known were the rank-and-file, not the radical chic intellectual sympathizers or donors. I cannot offer much insight on the latter and leave that to other commentators. But my guess is the dynamic is much like underclass black urban rioters: just because you would not Those People around for dinner or in your neighborhood does not mean they are not fighting the Good Fight.

Most struggled with some kind of mental condition, many were or had been homeless. They were fundamentally ugly people, not just in looks, but in spirit. I am not just talking about the rigid intellectual intolerance, but how they treated everybody around them, even their own. It was appalling. These people are the kind who'd torture a wounded stray dog for pissing on a flyer, never mind take pleasure in causing random drivers to lose their jobs.

I was apolitical back then and could have drifted in any number of directions, but seeing the kind of human being these organizations tended to attract pretty much barred that one off.

I actually don't think Antifa is a particularly Jewish-influenced group (maybe at the donor level, but that's probably a function of who has money to burn), especially for a leftist movement.

Most Antifa members appear to be dopey true believers in their cause. Teachers and lawyers are overrepresented among the organizers arrested (according to Andy Ngo's twitter mugshot postings), while the rank and file "muscle" are underemployed perpetual community college students with BPD.

    , @Joe Walker

  7. Why Is Beverly Hills a Rare West Coast Outpost of Freedom of Assembly for Trump Supporters?

Steve, maybe the answer is in a 2017 article you wrote for Taki’s Mag:

    https://www.takimag.com/article/extended_stay_america_steve_sailer

    Extended Stay America

Blond Russian girlfriends were an exotic innovation in American life when my lonely widower father-in-law brought one back from a trip to Leningrad in 1991 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The baritone was this guy named Kip Diskin, big fat guy, I mean, like, orca fat.

My wife’s uncle, a U.S. Air Force colonel with a Ph.D. in metallurgy, would occasionally go spying in East Berlin and meet up with Soviet Jewish aerospace experts. He’d get the word through the grapevine that a future émigré would be sitting in a parked car on a certain East Berlin backstreet on a certain evening.

It didn’t make sense that I’d be there. I mean, these guys were hard-core hijackers, but there I was. At that point I wasn’t scared, I knew I hadn’t done anything they could do me for. Besides, it was fun. I got to make like I was notorious. In response, my cousin’s boss authored the Jackson-Vanik Amendment to force the Soviets to let Jews and other religious minorities out.

    Okay, here’s the pertinent part:

The Russification of parts of Los Angeles has been an underreported story. Initially, the ex-Soviet arrivals were largely Jewish. But increasingly the Russians are their Slavic distant relatives and neighbors.

For example, when my nephew stayed with us a few years ago, he played on two soccer teams at the local park. There was a petty gang of Hungarians that wanted their own mob. They realized that to be in power you didn’t need guns or money or even numbers. You just needed the will to do what the other guy wouldn’t. The other team was made up of tall, blond, blue-eyed Russian speakers. They unsmilingly called him “Hey You” because they were Russians.

I recall all this history about how the U.S. government has chosen to give immigration privileges to some foreign religious groups and not to others. But many pundits can’t seem to remember much of anything. All that matters to them is knowing who are supposed to be the good guys and who the bad guys.

What the cops never figured out, and what I know now, was that these men would never break, never lie down, never bend over for anybody. Anybody.

From on online guide on how to set up an antifa group, Italics are mine.

    9) INFILTRATORS Over the years, we have dealt with a variety of infiltrators. Sometimes they are random contacts. Sometimes they are fencesitters in the punk rock and skinhead scenes who are known to people in both fascist and anti-fascist circles. On one occasion, a black man tried to get involved with antifa groups, but ended up being affiliated with a neo-Nazi party and was feeding them information. Alt Right supporters in particular can be from the same social demographic as many left-wing activists, and have infiltrated several meetings and demonstrations

One of the biggest reasons why I still think my wife and I will be safe from neighborhood attack is because we have plenty of Jewish neighbors (to go along with the Chinese and Indians.) 12. Antifa isn’t rich and Jewish, it’s middle class and white, but taking roughly from the bottom quintile of that group, i.e. the ones who had somewhat wealthy and successful parents but didn’t inherit any of the good genes and usually picked up some nasty mutations, which you can frequently see in their faces whenever they get unmasked on camera or a mugshot gets released. These are not your Good Old Boys, they’re the ones who really creeped you out in high school, losers and loners full of rage and resentment.

There are certainly Jews amongst them – why wouldn’t there be? – and it wouldn’t even surprise me if they’re overrepresented, but there’s no way they’re the majority. There aren’t enough of them in the country to be the majority.

Antifa is a low-brow street gang that predominantly attracts Anglo/Lutheran diaspora losers who resent emotionally stable and culturally conservative middle Americans (which besides founding stock Americans now includes a good number of Jews, Italians, Slavs, and even a fair number of Mestizo Hispanics who don't seem in general to be enthused about BLM either).

The intellectual overclass of the current Left wing mania includes the media and entertainment sector as well as a lot of "educated" young women and Asians. Previous Leftist bubbles were heavily driven by arrogant and resentful male Ellis islanders. These days Asians and Middle Easterners are the latest arrivals to America (Ellis islanders have now been here for 100-130 years, and Mexicans have long standing history in the Southwest), so no surprise how Woke they are. But the dominant female component is something new, and accords with the declining mental health and useful social support (not financial support per se) of women.

  15. Speaking of Antifa suppressing speech. Andy Ngo’s parents had some visitors.

Ngo is a polemicist and has fairly basic Fox News style views some of which may or may not be truly sincere but he is invaluable aggregator and investigator into the Antifa in Portland. Yet, could you imagine what would happen if even the most crazed mainstream SJW journo had this happen to them their parents? (It’s unclear if ‘family home’ refers to his parents or himself.)

These people aren’t revolutionaries or political idealists, they’re cluster B fuckups who see Antifa as an opportunity to engage in the recreational violence and antisocial behaviour they crave and who find the standards of civilised society oppressing.

For a happy ending for the revolutionaries (after a fashion), see Andrew Joyce's Review: the Trial of the Chicago 7, on the Unz.com sidebar. Filmmaker Aaron Sorkin and his Netflix funders should be as lucky as the recipients of their tongue bath.

    Replies: @nebulafox, @HammerJack, @S. Anonyia, @Joe Walker

I actually don’t think Antifa is a particularly Jewish-influenced group (maybe at the donor level, but that’s probably a function of who has money to burn), especially for a leftist movement.

Most Antifa members appear to be dopey true believers in their cause. Teachers and lawyers are overrepresented among the organizers arrested (according to Andy Ngo’s twitter mugshot postings), while the rank and file “muscle” are underemployed perpetual community college students with BPD.

    Replies: @Perspective, @BB753

Right, judging from the mug shots compiled by Andy Ngo, the rank and file street component seems to be mostly northwest European stock with a small but noticeable Middle Eastern/South Asian and Amerindian element as well in Portland. There’s also a disturbing high number that are employed as teachers or legal professionals.

Yet, could you imagine what would happen if even the most crazed mainstream SJW journo had this happen to them their parents? (It's unclear if 'family home' refers to his parents or himself.)

Per Peter Turchin the last 5-10 years have seen record setting volume of riots, protests/demonstrations, in terms of how many have occurred, how well attended they've been, and how sustained they've been. He thinks that decades of inequality and growing intra-elite disputes create conditions that are ripe for extremists, revolutions, and civil wars. But you'd never realize this from the MSM coverage, as the media seems to have the attitude that if 80-90% of street conflict is Left instigated, it's no big deal (to the point of not even acknowledging widespread urban unrest), even as they hysterically exaggerate the threat posed by the most benign Right protestors (like the MI anti-lockdown folks).

But there was rioting and looting in Fairfax and BH in late May, early June, wasn't there? And Rodeo closed Nov. 3 and 4. Not everybody supports getting themselves looted, although there have been plenty of stories of dept. stores looted and then BLM is given money. There was one small business in NYC, I think run by Indians (but seems long ago now), where the owner was just 'so glad' to have been of help with this 'cause'. I'm sure I've heard of a lot more of these, but already in Portland in the very early days of St. George, there were all those white people doing the knee and apologizing to some big black mamas who 'wept'. Gross.

They were boarding up just a few blocks from me on 6th Ave. yesterday, and continue today--Staples, BB&B, Ann Taylor. I read Rodeo Drive will be guarded and closed both Nov. 3 and 4, I don't know whether the constant police presence means the stores all have to be boarded up too. But I just looked to see that a lot of 'the rest of LA' is boarding up too. Isn't Malibu pretty Jewish too? I don't believe they are the sorts that would allow rioting and looting, even with all the heart-on-the-sleeve Industry types. The Upper West Side in NYC (I know BH, Bel Air, etc. is 'West Side' in LA, but I don't know if you have an 'Upper West Side' as such) is super-Jewish-liberal, and has been a joke for decades in that way. The Upper East Side is not run by Jews, and they have the hardest time getting into the 'best co-ops' still. But that's why it was so shocking and telling when there was some rioting even in the E. 60s back in June.

SoHo, already attacked twice, is boarding up. What a ridiculous way to have to live.

It is pretty clear, Republicans like to hold their rallies where they will run into the least number of BLM Antifa scum and they want to be close to cops that won’t put up with any political bullshit. I have been too a smaller rally in Blackhawk CA that has a similar vibe to it. They don’t post the rally’s to social media and instead communicate via email and ask everyone to not distribute the invite indiscriminately so the word does not get out too soon. They get in on time, do their flag waiving, and get home for dinnertime. They don’t hang around.

Working as a cop or police chief in an upper middle class suburban town is a pretty good gig. You don’t get the excitement of being a big city cop but that is overrated these days. The people in wealthier towns are well organized, educated, and expect to be protected from crime, especially thug type criminals like BLM. They have to be responsive and aggressive and generally are. As a footnote, these Trump rallies have a hit and run atmosphere to them. As the election gets closer, they are now much bigger but in months prior they are almost like an act of defiance. In the Bay Area where I live, it is as if 90% of the cops have ceded the public spaces to the black blob. The cops know that the white republicans out waiving Trump flags impose no threat to anybody but they attract the undertow which is what creates the property damage and rock throwing. Antifa types need to fubar other's gigs because they have no message of their own. Same for BLM. Nobody cares.

The other thing is that white liberal suburbanites seem to hate the fact that these Trump supporters dare to openly show their support. Much of their outward signaling (BLM / Biden signs on the lawn) is to ward off the black / brown mobs that might descend on their private world whether that be their homes, schools, or workplace. Not only are Trump supporters taunting the Soros proxy army, they are displaying freedom, something which white liberals don't really enjoy themselves because they are too afraid of offending their social betters on the totem stack. Some of they secretly wish they could be edgy rebels too but they are mostly scared conformists afraid of losing their jobs or place on the social hierarchy.

  48. Last sentence is bad, depends on monolithism, and anyway this is perfectly consistent with Israelis or for that matter Manhattanites enjoying things we can’t have. Best, very very very best thing about BH is that it’s a separate city like Culver City. So the police were ordered to keep the dreaded east of Robinson demographic out of BH since they arrived 70 years ago for WW2 jobs. Culver City also Robertson borders that demographic. And the schools are majority White so there’s that. If you live in BH you can send your kids to public school !!! Who’d a thunk? Being a separate city surrounded by a big city good public transit the black help never had to live in BH but they and their thug spawn were Los Angeles ‘ problem

The dreadful demographic has been replaced by a chabad Hasidic community.

OT -- I half-watched Saturday Night Live last night, then the NBC and CBS Sunday news shows this morning. As far as awareness of current events, there is an immense disconnect between the readership of this blog and "regular Americans" who rely on television news and infotainment shows.

Examples of items not worth mentioning in the roundups of the week's important news.
    * The Hunter Biden laptop (e.g.)
    * Last night's authentication of the laptop contents by the Daily Mail
    * The Philadelphia mostly peaceful rioting and looting of a few days back
    * The Antifa/BLM mostly peaceful Halloween riot in Portland
    * The Antifa/BLM mostly peaceful Halloween riot in Vancouver, WA

NBC reporter Willie Geist had an amusing non-partisan segment on social media's role in increasing polarization by allowing the spread of disinformation. One Biden-supporting academic after another decried... QAnon. Fortunately, tech giant leaders like Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg are, finally, doing the right thing by enforcing the mainstream consensus on newsworthiness.

It is pretty clear, Republicans like to hold their rallies where they will run into the least number of BLM Antifa scum and they want to be close to cops that won't put up with any political bullshit. I have been too a smaller rally in Blackhawk CA that has a similar vibe to it. They don't post the rally's to social media and instead communicate via email and ask everyone to not distribute the invite indiscriminately so the word does not get out too soon. They get in on time, do their flag waiving, and get home for dinnertime. They don't hang around.

Working as a cop or police chief in an upper middle class suburban town is a pretty good gig. You don't get the excitement of being a big city cop but that is overrated these days. The people in wealthier towns are well organized, educated, and expect to be protected from crime, especially thug type criminals like BLM. They have to be responsive and aggressive and generally are. The white protestors fit in normally, the BLM / Antifa losers look like they come from a different planet; somewhere they don't dress in clean clothes.

    Replies: @Prof. Woland

Antifa types need to fubar other’s gigs because they have no message of their own.

Not only are Trump supporters taunting the Soros proxy army, they are displaying freedom, something which white liberals don’t really enjoy themselves because they are too afraid of offending their social betters on the totem stack. Some of they secretly wish they could be edgy rebels too but they are mostly scared conformists afraid of losing their jobs or place on the social hierarchy.

  61. if the trump gathering is where I think it is, then 50 yards to the south of that park is Rodeo Drive and similar ritzy streets. 50 yards to the north starts the neighborhoods of 10 million-dollar homes or more. The cops dont want antifa getting full of themselves and getting any ideas.

BH is really the perfect small town America that never was. The public schools are almost all White. Now that a certain demographic has been driven way, way east of Robertson it’s rxtremely safe and low crime. It has a zillion activities run by the city through the property taxes.

Very unusual in CA where your 20K a property year taxes go directly to the non Whites. There are so many kids activities in the park and rec facilities scattered all over town that there’s an activity for everyone. There’s fees but very cheap ballet for about 1/4 private dance school. All sorts of sports even etiquette and good manners classes. Homework clubs too.

In summer there a snow weekend in one of the parks. Truck in real snow from the San Gabriel’s and kids play in it all weekend

All this out of your property taxes run by the city employees. Imagine, White parents property taxes used for activities White children participate in!!!!!! What other city in black lover USA uses city taxes for the benefit of the residents .

And public schools safe civilized White and pleasant.

No one knows for sure right now how much Israel is supporting Azerbaijan militarily, but there is buzz on twitter about a lot of cargo flights from Israel to Baku (also Ukraine to Baku).

I found this article on Israel support for Azerbaijan rather quickly using duckduckgo. It is from antiwar.com so I'm guessing they are a pretty left-leaning site.

Israel and Azerbaijan are major trading partners. The two countries have signed defense agreements together, and it is believed that Israel provides the Azeri military with 60 percent of its weapons. Israel also gets a large amount of its oil and natural gas from Azerbaijan. Azeri cargo planes have been recently spotted at an air force base in southern Israel.

Azeri cargo planes landing at this base is a relatively common occurrence, but the timing and frequency of recent flights indicate Israeli arms are fueling the conflict. According to Haaretz, two Azeri Ilyushin Il-76 freighters landed at the base last Thursday, just days before the fighting broke out. Two more freighters arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday, which means Azeri forces could be replenishing their weapons.

But there was rioting and looting in Fairfax and BH in late May, early June, wasn’t there? And Rodeo closed Nov. 3 and 4. Not everybody supports getting themselves looted, although there have been plenty of stories of dept. stores looted and then BLM is given money. There was one small business in NYC, I think run by Indians (but seems long ago now), where the owner was just ‘so glad’ to have been of help with this ’cause’. I’m sure I’ve heard of a lot more of these, but already in Portland in the very early days of St. George, there were all those white people doing the knee and apologizing to some big black mamas who ‘wept’. Gross.

They were boarding up just a few blocks from me on 6th Ave. yesterday, and continue today–Staples, BB&B, Ann Taylor. I read Rodeo Drive will be guarded and closed both Nov. 3 and 4, I don’t know whether the constant police presence means the stores all have to be boarded up too. But I just looked to see that a lot of ‘the rest of LA’ is boarding up too. Isn’t Malibu pretty Jewish too? I don’t believe they are the sorts that would allow rioting and looting, even with all the heart-on-the-sleeve Industry types. The Upper West Side in NYC (I know BH, Bel Air, etc. is ‘West Side’ in LA, but I don’t know if you have an ‘Upper West Side’ as such) is super-Jewish-liberal, and has been a joke for decades in that way. The Upper East Side is not run by Jews, and they have the hardest time getting into the ‘best co-ops’ still. But that’s why it was so shocking and telling when there was some rioting even in the E. 60s back in June.

SoHo, already attacked twice, is boarding up. What a ridiculous way to have to live.

    1) Be of the opinion that more should have been done about COVID-19
    2) Go one of the MiniTrue-approved sewage pipes (WaPo, NYT, all those) for a bold interview about that

Bad stance open to critique and exposed to the risk of being shunted to the garage track:

‘Lockdowns KILL’: Trump Covid adviser Atlas forced to APOLOGIZE for RT interview as media uproar deflects to ‘Russian propaganda’

Trump administration Covid-19 adviser Scott Atlas ripped public-health officials for “egregious” policy failures – only to be forced to apologize after mainstream media deflected his points by attacking him for appearing on RT.

On Saturday, the Stanford University doctor, who has emerged as President Donald Trump’s top adviser on responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, called the lockdown policies an “epic failure” and argued they are “killing people,” while speaking with Afshin Rattansi on RT’s Going Underground show.

While Atlas’ counter-narrative comments might have been fodder for a serious discussion of public-health policy, mainstream media outlets instead spun the interview into a controversy over a Trump administration official granting an interview to a Russian state-owned outlet.

Good stance open to politicial bonus point accumulation:

Fauci praises Biden on Covid-19 & criticizes Trump in interview with Washington Post published THREE DAYS before election

Intentionally or otherwise, Fauci put his thumb on the electoral scale by painting a doomsday picture of the nation’s Covid-19 outlook and suggesting the Democrat candidate is more focused on the pandemic than is the Republican incumbent. Asked about differences between the two on the virus issue, Fauci praised Biden for “taking it seriously from a public-health perspective,” and said Trump looks at it from the standpoint of “the economy and reopening the country,” according to the Post, which published its article Saturday evening.

    1) Trump loses California by five million votes, while tying the PV across the rest of the land. Like last time, he wins this way.

    2) Biden wins the EC but not the PV. The fifteen Democratic states would not, technically, have to give the Donald their 196 electors, but if they don’t, it makes them look like fools. Which, of course, they are.

    3) Trump wins the PV along with the EC. We can then nag those states to give him their 196 electors. That would have given him over 500 last time. Putting Trump in the top five in history.

Per Peter Turchin the last 5-10 years have seen record setting volume of riots, protests/demonstrations, in terms of how many have occurred, how well attended they’ve been, and how sustained they’ve been. He thinks that decades of inequality and growing intra-elite disputes create conditions that are ripe for extremists, revolutions, and civil wars. But you’d never realize this from the MSM coverage, as the media seems to have the attitude that if 80-90% of street conflict is Left instigated, it’s no big deal (to the point of not even acknowledging widespread urban unrest), even as they hysterically exaggerate the threat posed by the most benign Right protestors (like the MI anti-lockdown folks).

  108. Persian Jews have a lot of economic and political clout in BH these days.

Like most “men with gold chains,” they’re mostly just interested in making money, gaming the system, chasing women, buying gaudy status items (Gucci bags, huge mansions, BMWs), and throwing big parties.

They don’t give a damn about anything that doesn’t impact their extended family or clan. They’ll agitate on behalf of their family/clan, but they think activism is stupid.

Persian Jews are full of ethnic animosity, but it’s not directed against White Gentiles. Their animosity is directed at Palestinians and various other types of Arabs.

They have no desire to make White Gentiles a minority in America and create a Jewish-Black-Immigrant ruling class. Their main desire (other than stacking paper and living it up with their family/clan members) is the survival of Israel. Since Trump is fanatically pro-Israel, they like him. Having spent centuries living among hostile Muslims back in Iran, they also approve of Trump’s Muslim ban. The assassination of General Soleimani probably impressed them too.

To Persian Jews, Trump’s gaudiness, racism, tough-talking machismo, and crudeness are endearing qualities. Qualities that are very common among them. Qualities worthy of respect.

Lots of them are small businessmen too, so they like the pro-free enterprise policies of Republicans.

Most of the above points apply to Armenians and other swarthy types who come from the outer southern clines of the former Soviet Union.

Christian Arabs (Lebanese, Chaldeans, etc) are like this too.

“Men with gold chains” are definitely pro-Trump.

There are plenty of Muslims who are into the “gold chain” culture, but they’re turned off by the Republican party’s anti-Muslim belligerence and Christian chauvinism. So even if Muslims are culturally similar to Christian and Jewish “gold chain” tribes, they have different ethnic and political views.

On the east coast, Italian-Americans (another “gold chain” tribe) are some of Trump’s most fervent supporters. Why? Even if they differ in some ways, they have “gold chain” culture.

For Christian and Jewish “gold chain” tribes, Trump is an excellent president. He’s an honorary “gold chain” man.

I would love to live in a home like Trump’s. With 3 essential improvements.

First and most important double the height of the ceiling to proper ratio of ceiling height to length of room. Like 15 foot high ceiling for a 20 foot long room. Preferably a perfect double cube

Second, replace all that dull beige and white furniture with either Chinese red or peacock blue.

Third replace the carpet with a dark wood black walnut not oak floor . Not plain parquet either . Block parquet with strong diagonals.

When I become dictator of the world I will ban all black clothing except for men’s socks. And ban White walls and white beige and gray furniture, curtains, walls, rugs and carpets. Except for white white bathrooms, not ivory ecru almond or any mud white.

First time I went to Europe I noticed Hotels in colors other than beige. Furniture store windows not drowned in beige dirty white and gray.

It’s either Puritanism or poverty that dictates American women drowning in black black black clothes and our homes hotels and other interiors drowned in white beige and gray.

Ever try to get furniture re upholstered in an ordinary shop? 5,000 fabric samples in shades of pale to dark muddy white beige and gray.

To The Trade Only shops are the only ones with decent fabric.

Every immigrant group brings something good. The Chinese neighborhoods feature fireworks from June 20 to July 20. Persians Armenians Russians and Israelis remodel those ghastly post modern boxes into something I can bear to look at.

The BH Persians cut out huge windows with arched or gothic point tops and surround them with elaborate moldings. Plus the giant double doors. Expensive but tacky in houses too small for such effects but a giant step in the right direction and a rebellion against architect school drab boxes.

Because many German and Scandinavian immigrants were Lutherans, and moreover, this folkway is genetically very similar to the Brit puritans who founded New England. It's interesting that the current Civil War burns hottest among Puritan/Lutheran stock (roughly divided between Left and right, MN shockingly nearly voted for Trump in '16), the Scots-Irish (mostly Right), and blacks (mostly Left) who've been here many generations. Catholics, Jews, and Slavs are generally not exhibiting the same hatred and aggression.

Library is lovely. Enormous movie and music selection. But really no books worth reading except decorating and garden designing Foreign languages not enjoyable fiction just philosophy and intellectual fiction De Beauvoir and philosophers Yuck Shelves and shelves and shelves of Jewish martyrdom and communist propaganda denunciation of anti communists and glorification of MLK Earl Browder Alger Hiss Harry White Weathermen civil rights Yuck

Oh, and very inexpensive city parking lots excellent bus service to everywhere including airport although few bus benches to discourage the homeless.

Retail of food drugstore everything is very expensive But you can go to Culver City or south east for reasonably priced super markets shopping dry cleaners hair cuts glasses manicures etc.

If you ever move to Los Angeles BH is the city

Persian Jews have a lot of economic and political clout in BH these days.

Like most "men with gold chains," they're mostly just interested in making money, gaming the system, chasing women, buying gaudy status items (Gucci bags, huge mansions, BMWs), and throwing big parties.

They don't give a damn about anything that doesn't impact their extended family or clan. They'll agitate on behalf of their family/clan, but they think activism is stupid.

Persian Jews are full of ethnic animosity, but it's not directed against White Gentiles.

Having spent centuries living among hostile Muslims back in Iran, they also approve of Trump's Muslim ban. The assassination of General Soleimani probably impressed them too.

To Persian Jews, Trump's gaudiness, racism, tough-talking machismo, and crudeness are endearing qualities. Qualities that are very common among them. Qualities worthy of respect.

Lots of them are small businessmen too, so they like the pro-free enterprise policies of Republicans.

Most of the above points apply to Armenians and other swarthy types who come from the outer southern clines of the former Soviet Union.

Your correction headed off my pending correctional comment, Reg. I love geography, and I was going to write, how do you get onto the US-1 south toward the Keys except from Dade County?

Well, if it makes you feel better, the Keys may become the Conch Republic anyway, so not part of the country, and more power to 'em. What a welcome change the Keys are from Miami.

From Yuma to upstate New York is still a pretty long trek too, though technically not a x-country trip.

I have driven this country on many routes in various directions, Reg (I calculated 17 1-ways, to break it out that way). I didn't go as far as to roll up the windows and not stop in any "blue" counties, but I did tell this story on Peak Stupidity - "Running on empty due to stubborn pride". Once I saw that "Home of Bill Clinton" sign attached to the "Welcome to Arkansas" sign on the I-40 bridge across the Mississippi River leaving Memphis, I vowed not to stop for ANYTHING in Arkansas. With my Camaro getting only 21.5 mpg (windows down or up, doesn't matter) and having filled up the tank in Olive Branch, with only 15 G usable if I was lucky, I drove into Oklahoma 4 hours later on fumes.

(That was almost as worrisome as the trek from Tupelo down through Jackson, Miss. on the the old Natchez Trace road. There are no gas stations on the road, and I didn't want to jeopardize my chances of making it to Jackson by getting off that road to look for some! Yes, I have run out before, one time twice in one day, but the car was new to me then.)

    Thanks for the geography lesson!

Only if the librarians are clueless. Also, there were the travel costs for a 1900-mile trip to consider. And the fact that there seem to be more than 80 libraries just in LA County, and how do I know which one it's at? Library sales aren't catalogued, at least the $2 ones aren't.

BTW, maybe LA County's librarians aren't that smart. They're offering a series of women's suffrage centennial library card designs.

“ The fact that Israel supports Azerbaijan is likely not discussed much.”

Does Israel support them other than selling them drones at retail prices?

Or is it that Iran oppresses its Azeri minority which makes Azerbaijan oppose Iran which makes Iran like Azerbaijan’s enemy Armenia which makes Israel dislike Iran’s friend Armenia?

I think Israel provides support to Lebanese groups in their civil war that were partly ethnic Armenian, though assimilated.

It is from antiwar.com so I’m guessing they are a pretty left-leaning site.

Antiwar is a anti-Israel site founded by the gay libertarian Justin Raimundo.

    Your links says:

“ Israel provides the Azeri military with 60 percent of its weapons. Israel also gets a large amount of its oil and natural gas from Azerbaijan. ”

This undermines its credibility. First, Israel does get “a large amount of natural gas” from Azerbaijan because Israel is an *exporter* of natural gas, not an importer.

Second, the idea a nation would buy 60% of its arms from Israel is absurd on its face. Israel’s defense industry is specialized in a few niches which could in no way add up to 60%. The Azeris also, by necessity to maintain legacy systems, rely on Russian imports, and their closest ally is Turkey.

“about a lot of cargo flights from Israel to Baku”

Meaningless given that Azerbaijan isn’t a pariah state, they export oil and import almost everything else from around the world.

I'm glad you had your $160 18 lb. atlas with you, Reg. Where would you have been without it.. gator bait?

I shut down a guy's car I was driving to California for him on a small road (not the main road) near Joshua Tree. I was just going to get to the back to get another music tape, but then I saw some cans or something to shoot at with the .22 rifle in a place with NOTHING but rocks otherwise.

So, I took the gun out, dutifully locked up the guy's car and did some shooting with 4 cents/pop ammo. 20 minutes later, out in the hot sun, I noticed that, yeah, of course the keys were still in the ignition, cause I had just stopped to change a tape. One car was going by around every 20 minutes or so, and they didn't seem like they wanted to stop.

I could have broken a window, but I tried looping my belt through the 1" of open window on the window handle but it was going the wrong way. There were nothing resembling sticks around. Finally a couple stopped, kept the engine running, and gave me a coat hangar upon request. It took 15 seconds, and waa-lah (as it the English translation), I was back on the road again.

Trump’s NYC apartment is in a skyscraper (Trump Tower). In a high rise all the ceilings are the same height and can’t be changed. You can’t put in 30 ft. ceilings even if you are Trump.

Of course Mar-A-Lago has correctly proportioned rooms but Trump bought it, he did not build it. Trump grew up in Queens and has the kind of taste that you would expect a guy from Queens to have.

Police in the French city of Lyon have released an initial suspect in the shooting of a Greek Orthodox priest.

The prosecutor's office said it found no evidence of the man's involvement, suggesting the gunman could still be at large.

Beverly Hills is not an exclusive gated community. We’re a city of 34,000 people, half of them renters (our median income isn’t even in the top 10 of L.A. County). We have neighborhoods with mansions, and neighborhoods with old apartments. There are far more exclusive areas in the county (the actual “gated communities”). And the riots touched us and touched us good; our retail district was trashed beyond recognition...

But here’s the kicker: In 2016, the only district on the entire Westside that went for Trump was in Beverly Hills. Yes, Trump won here.

Yes, I have run out before

I ran out just before getting on Alligator Alley, and walked a quarter mile to a station and got a can of gas. A carful of cracker boys offered me a ride back to my van. Once I was in, I realized one or two in the back were smoking.

That was the longest quarter mile of my life. Thank God for my huge Delorme atlas, which I held over the can.

    Replies: @Rob McX, @Achmed E. Newman

I’m glad you had your $160 18 lb. atlas with you, Reg. Where would you have been without it.. gator bait?

I shut down a guy’s car I was driving to California for him on a small road (not the main road) near Joshua Tree. I was just going to get to the back to get another music tape, but then I saw some cans or something to shoot at with the .22 rifle in a place with NOTHING but rocks otherwise.

So, I took the gun out, dutifully locked up the guy’s car and did some shooting with 4 cents/pop ammo. 20 minutes later, out in the hot sun, I noticed that, yeah, of course the keys were still in the ignition, cause I had just stopped to change a tape. One car was going by around every 20 minutes or so, and they didn’t seem like they wanted to stop.

I could have broken a window, but I tried looping my belt through the 1″ of open window on the window handle but it was going the wrong way. There were nothing resembling sticks around. Finally a couple stopped, kept the engine running, and gave me a coat hangar upon request. It took 15 seconds, and waa-lah (as it the English translation), I was back on the road again.
