On Twitter, a reader notes that black homicides tend to be more seasonal than white homicides:

This more or less checks out: blacks died by homicide according to the CDC death certificate database about 22% more in June to August over the years 1999-2020 than in December to February.

For whites, the seasonal gap was only 7%; for Hispanics 18%.

The gap between July-September versus January-March is 27% for blacks, 16% for whites, and 23% for Hispanics.

But all September figures are inflated by 9/11 in 2001.

For whites, about 20% of all homicide victims in September over that 22 year span died in the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

My impression from local news coverage is that a lot of blacks get murdered at outdoor parties or on the sidewalks outside clubs, so the current temperature matters more.

Off topic: there are Nazi gangs in the Torrance Police department:

  4. Well, men living in northern latitudes evolved to be capable of functioning in all seasons. Therefore, their descendants today don’t suddenly come alive and become more animated in warm weather. (In fact some of us, like yours truly, become exhilarated in cold, snowy weather.)

Sub-Saharans, on the other hand, evolved in a warm climate where they found what they needed on the land. No winter to survive and work in or prepare for. When warm weather returns here where they don’t belong, they bloom like the flowers.

“ . . . blacks died by homicide according to the CDC death certificate database about 22% more in June to August over the years 1999-2020 than in December to February.“

Well this makes complete and total sense. After all, blacks are a hot blooded and warm-weather loving people, and they come by these traits naturally from their genetics and ancestors in Africa. Even though there are large concentrations of blacks in the Midwest and Northeast, most overwhelmingly hate cold weather. This in-part explains the sparsity of blacks in leisure sports such as skiing and ice-skating. Black people will cluster indoors during the winter months, and avoid conflict, but when the warm weather hits, all bets are off. Chicago would be a fascinating case study for this theorem. The winters there can be brutal, but they have a very large black population, so there should be clear evidence of the peaks and valleys in the murder rate.

  11. I’ve always found it interesting that Blacks spend so much time at parties, BBQs, and nightclubs.

The media, academics, and politicians claim that Blacks are perpetually depressed by systematic racism and poverty. Yet, as far as I can tell, Blacks are positively exuberant. They’re also quite prosperous, which is how they can afford to party and socialize so much. If you ever listen to rap music, it’s striking how many references there are to nightclubs and parties. See the song below, as it’s a pretty good representation of many aspects of Black youth culture.

I find it equally interesting that Whites used to be socially extroverted (up through maybe the early 90s), but they’re so socially reclusive these days. Whites rarely (if ever) do big parties or socialize with neighbors these days. The decline in social extraversion (among Whites) is one of the more interesting trends of the last few decades. When was the last time you saw a big group of Whites hanging out together ANYWHERE? Other than at sportsball games (and SOMETIMES sports bars), Whites seem to have lost the desire to socialize with large numbers of other individuals.

Immigrants (Hispanics, Asians, Subcons, Middle Easterners, Armenians, Eastern Euros, etc) don’t socialize much with neighbors or throw parties for friends, but they do lots of family get togethers. These people can go years without so much as as “hello” to a next door neighbor, but seem to have over their cousins several times per month. Much can be said about foreigners and their “enrichment” of America’s social fabric.

  12. Bill P says:

Is this a serious question? Have you ever left SoCal in the darker months?

I live in the Pacific NW, and I grew up in one of the few parts of that region with a lot of blacks. From September-May you don’t see them often up here, but during summer they’re always out and around. They really make the most of the sunshine, and that entails lots of displays, rivalry, and from time to time gunfire.

It’s no mystery at all. When they’re cooped up with their heaters cranked up to full blast and many layers of clothes there’s a lot less exuberance. They also stay in their cars when it’s cold and wet. There aren’t as many opportunities for confrontation when it’s pissing down rain and 35 degrees outside. Imagine what that weather does to hairdos, and how it feels on exposed skin. The low light also renders flashy colors and bling far less impressive and provocative than the summer sun.

Maybe whites kill each other more in the dark months. I find my tolerance for bad behavior seriously diminished when I have to scrape my windshield in the darkness of the morning and find some tweaker rifling through my glove compartment. It really taxes one’s patience, but you just have to remind yourself that no matter how far they’ve fallen, they’re still human.

    Yep.

A good rough and ready thermometer is to be had not by counting the chirp rates of crickets, but by examining the daily murder score in Chicago.

    Simple explanation:

Blacks are such an aggressive people, that the trigger for murder is simply a passing encounter. The number of passing encounters is directly proportional to ambient air temperature, since the likelihood of being out of doors and thus making encounters with random people is a function of ambient temperature.

Also, note, it is *not* ambient temperature, per se, which is the underlying driver of this trend – it is, purely and simply, a function of blacks being in the physical presence of other blacks, the *number* of distinct other blacks encountered per hour being the determinant.

Thus, murders are more or less guaranteed to occur whenever you have a large agglomeration of blacks at one single spot, ‘hip hop,’ concerts, funerals, looting rampages etc etc.

The biggest callout time for emergency services tends to hover around the longest day of the year. This is due to more people being out and about in all contexts getting into trouble.

In the case of young armed black men, it also means they run into people they have quarrels with too.

I’m struck by this insane footage of a Juneteenth party in 2020, for example.

I’ve often wondered if in the age of the internet and social media criminals couldn’t work this out and try to commit a lot of their crimes on the day same near to this in order to increase all of their chances of getting away with it. Similar to what we saw during the protests and riots during summer 2020 when police resources were both strained and inhibited by scrutiny, a lot of brazen looting of high end stores in NYC.

A disadvantage would be the daylight but if you made it as deep a tradition like ‘Devil’s Night’ became in Detroit where all kinds of general destruction was caused by youths with no specific plan to cover you in addition to more organised criminals, I think it might work.

    Perhaps Juneteenth may become this.

Presumably Blacks do statistically spend more time “hanging out”, literally, than do other races, which provides a direct explanation for why their behaviour would be more seasonal.
If people loiter outside around street corners it’s because they enjoy company and because they have nothing better to do. Now, if rates of employment among young Black men are that much lower than among Whites or Hispanics that would explain why they are loitering outside so much.
Yet, the stereotype of the White (jobless) recluse doesn’t quite fit, because he is more likely to spend his time on the Internet, watching TV or playing video games rather than roaming the streets.

Is there something in the Black temperament, perhaps related to higher average testosterone levels, that makes them so much more restless than other races? I get the sense Blacks are less easily soothed and sedated by things like TV or indeed video games than are Whites or Asians. If true, this does have its advantages, though, because it means they are less susceptible to the complacency and fecklessness induced by these diabolical inventions. Instead, it seems, they turn to weed.

Do we have reliable data on the rates of TV ownership or use among Blacks? Even if lots of Blacks don’t own PCs doesn’t pretty much everyone have a smartphone at this point and ready access to the Internet?

Low Luxembourg murders; does giving up privacy save lives? Little Luxembourg used to have one of the higher murder rates in Western Europe. It used to be Luxembourg citizens could get real Secret Bank accounts. Heard a report several years ago that EU regulations were going to eliminate these kinds of accounts in member states. It was implied that a large portion of murders in Luxembourg appeared to be of citizens who embezzled the money they were safekeeping for foreigners, especially the criminal element.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and blacks are easily the squeakiest wheels in American society. Also the bulk of native Americans live far away from the cities that are home to white savior activists types, so their problems are largely unseen.

In contrast, there probably isn’t a city in America where the section with the highest concentration of blacks isn’t also the most run down and violent and well known to all. Unfortunately for us, our overlords interpret this as a sign there is a problem with the rest of the country, not with the demographic most enthusiastic about dysfunctional behavior.

People in the firearms enthusiast community used to postulate that heavy down jackets or leather bomber style or varsity jackets favored by the urban community wittingly or otherwise served as a sort of body armor that absorbed some terminal energy of a bullet. This was the reason cited for why you had to change out your summer carry firearm for a heavier caliber winter carry firearm i.e., 9mm swapped out for a .40 cal.

Just think of the countless gifted actors who never got any chance at all. Acting is one of those fields where the number of people–fully qualified people–who want to do it vastly outnumbers the amount of paying work. There are other forms of artistic expression that you can pursue in solitude–writing, painting, sculpting, composing music, even performing music–but to act you require an audience.

Acting also differs from other art forms in that your appearance matters. Perhaps you could have played an ingenue 15 years previously, but that window has now shut. You can only portray what you look like (AA casting being the exception).

When referring to the world of acting, to speak of “a more just world” is ludicrous. Think of all the actresses who never got their chance and will go through life wondering, “What was the matter with me, Harvey? Why didn’t you ever ask if I would give you a massage?”

Preparing for cold weather is only half the story. Our ancestors had to live and work in it. I doubt they were able to just store fat and sleep through it like bears.

Even when you have prepared and stored everything you need to get through winter, you still need to do some work and remain active at cold temperatures.

You bring up an interesting point. Prior to Tom Edison and the movie and phonograph the most famous artists were writers. In the 19th century people like Charles Dickens and Mark Twain were the artistic superstars. Actors, singers and musicians just didn’t have the audience reach of literature.

It was impossible to be the Beatles, Elvis or Marilyn Monroe in the 19th century because people could not go listen or see you perform at a local theatre or music hall. Only a very wealthy person had the wherewithal to hire skilled musicians to provide live music with or without vocal accompaniment and only the biggest cities could put on live theatre or opera

The negro owes a real debt of gratitude to Edison for without his inventions negro singers would still be playing at the Apollo Theatre and Morgan Freeman would be announcing the guests at Miss Daisy’s dinner party

  68. Not surprising at all. As a lifelong Long Islander, I can readily attest to the stone cold fact that bruthas and sistas do NOT suffer the cold gladly. Where they swarm the beaches from Memorial Day to Labor Day, arriving on the dunes in early afternoon and causing the White young families to make tracks for the exits, it’s as if a switch is flipped by late September. You might not catch so much as a glimpse of a homeboy anywhere along Jones Beach or Fire Island between October and May. That is when my island reverts back once again to the Whiteopia I grew up in.

It’s a naturally extroverted culture. A successful man is gregarious, charming, able to attract networks of clientele.

Traditionally, White-American men exuded those qualities. Especially by the post-WWII era, Anglo-Protestant culture really emphasized being socially extroverted, affable, fun, and cooperative.

The “Beach Boys” is basically representative of what most White-American men were like (or at least aspired to be like) from ~1945-1990.

Joel Osteen is another example. So are “Ward Cleaver” and “Darren Stevens.”

While Blacks might have those qualities, historically there was no shortage of White-American men who behaved that way. Yet nowadays, you don’t see that very often. When you do, it’s typically Boomers and sometimes Xers. Rarely Millennials and NEVER Zoomers.

I blame Martha Stewart and all the subsequent “lifestyle” experts.

In the 60’s, my father would sometimes invite a friend from work over for dinner, and give my mother just a few hours notice. Over the past 5 years, 7 white couples in their early 30’s moved into my neighborhood. ALL of the men are autistic! Incapable of engaging in the kind of small talk neighbors engage in. Six act like talking to a stranger is physically painful. One is very talkative, but mainly to show how smart he is.

Strangely, all their wives are very pleasant and outgoing.

Aha! Right you are. Martha lived right here and did her show from her home. I knew one of her neighbors and he hated how there were always TV production trucks parked on the road in front of his home.

It is snobbery. Pure and simple, that’s all.

(BTW, Martha’s daughter was even worse than her mother, but that’s another story. Suffice it to say I know a lot about it and was personally acquainted with Martha’s personal assistant, who happened to have a funny connection to me and my family from long ago in California.)

The worst thing for socializing and parties is snobbery. It means you must worry about your home and kitchen being up to par. Normal, productive, happy people don’t give a shit; they are just happy to be there with you and other friends, having a fucking party. You could invite good friends to a cheap apartment for all they should care. (Boy have I done that!)

    Interesting point Paul.

Our neighborhood always had block parties–usually a couple during the summer, though less so now with the kids grown–and the Christmas party at our house, though pot-luck as well. AnotherMom’s a good cook and usually has something particular lined up when we invite. But we’ve done plenty of “just come on over” with the neighbors as well.

But i get the sense in a lot of neighborhoods, there’s just not the social interaction anymore. Some because of larger homes, media distraction, etc. Some because “diversity” has stripped any real community from “neighborhood”.

If people want community, just invite folks. Fire up the grill for some burgers is fine. Gourmet not required.

Here we have given small gifts to each of our five closest neighbors every Christmas during the decade since we arrived. We do this because we want to and because we know that it is not normal for neighbors to live by each other without recognizing each other.

In the early spring / late winter, some years I collect the sap from our sugar maple trees and boil it down to maple syrup. When I have done that, I have given a bottle to each of those five closest neighbors, just because.

Just because what? Well, y0u tell me. Let this be a test, because doing that makes me very happy.

The season is approaching, and I, continuously aging, am trying to decide whether or not to do it this year. I think the answer is pretty obvious. If you throw a party in a diverse area, folks you may not really want to be around and socialise with tend to barge their way in and for cultural reasons are less open to the idea that it is rude to attend someone else’s parry uninvited. European cultures tend to be much more insular, European people more shy, and much more cautious of imposing themselves on others. Europeans levels of social trust are in homogenous societies very high, but the price of that social trust is that a certain type of behaviour is demanded. The risks of having a party in a mixed community are too high. Offence taking uninvited guests, potential for fights. Well it’s simply not worth the risk of things going wrong and even when things don’t go wrong there is the worry that they will, and another thing of value our culture has built up over the years is quietly lost, and in its place something most likely inferior, something most likely we have to pay for.

I figured one of the iSteve sharpshooters here would take me to task over that.

Your set up isn’t likely to be available in the real world of self defense shooting.

But you could drape your 60 ft. targets in an old leather jacket to see if that affects bullet penetration.

I suspect Mythbusters has covered this, but haven’t checked.

Well, “nebulafox” is a strange moniker, and it always looks feminine to me. I keep thinking you are female. That would actually be good in my opinion.

Couldn’t you simply start using something else? (I don’t know, because I haven’t had to, so I don’t know how Ron Unz’s program handles such things.)

No matter, and don’t worry, because we all know you as you are, and that is good. As an amateur astronomer, I like the “nebula” part.

Whatever. Just please keep commenting. Thank you.

Sadly, your new neighbors are representative of Millenial males. Socially reclusive and uneasy around other human beings. However, very active and outgoing ONLINE.

A lot of young people grew up glued to devices/screens (smartphones, social media, NetFlix, video games, iPads, iPods, etc). So that stunted their social skills. Girls usually make it a point to at least occasionally socialize face-to-face with their female friends, but guys often do not. This problem gets increasingly worse, year by year.

If you think the Millenials are bad, just wait for the Zoomers. Zoomers are even MORE extreme. In comparison to Zoomers, Millenials are social butterflies. The Zoomers will make you nostalgic for Millenials. Not joking.

The black football player is forced to work via contract worth millions.. The average citizen not so much thus a very high rate of black unemployment. Spend the winter at one of your babies mommas welfare provided cribs because working in the cold is fo suckers. This can be seen in construction trades , not so much at you local belks .

I just looked up videos on YT about this. One farm has the whole thing mechanized. It was pretty interesting: all the trees are connected into a giant network with tubes. I didn’t look to the end but I expect they all empty into a huge vat.

It really does suck that we have to remain anonymous. Anonymity frees us to a degree but on the other hand, it also limits you.

Do you really believe that you remain anonymous to the parties that you most need to remain anonymous from? Anonymity may be keeping the Social Justice Hordes off of your back, but the real power knows exactly who you are.

This is supposedly the reason Hi-Standard started. There was a period there in midcentury, overlapping the spy craze, when a precision .22 pistol was thought of as preferable to larger calibers, provided adequate marksmanship.

I never saw that movie, and I’m glad I didn’t — everyone accepts the metaphor, but the story itself is shockingly of its time and self indulgent. The Devon Stack video on it is a must watch. There’s a deeply bizarre line in a throwaway moment where the protagonist’s non-robot friend remarks that the reason the Germans lost in WWII is because it is their place to submit to a superior being. The story itself is so sloppy and hamfisted that it could only have worked thanks to that same audience which enjoys the Handmaid’s Tale reboot.

Most maple syrup is produced in Canada. The tube system is common – kind of takes the romance out of it to make your forest look like an ICU but it beats carrying buckets around. Because they apply vacuum they can suck more sap out of the tree than would flow by gravity. They also reduce the water content using “reverse osmosis” before boiling the sap. This doesn’t hurt the product but it’s not very romantic sounding either. There are artisanal/hobby producers like Buzz but for the most part it’s a modern agribusiness product like anything else and not your picture postcard image of horse drawn sleighs in the forest.

Then there is some sort of government price fixing scheme in Canada that they use to keep the price high. Real maple syrup is delicious but chemically it’s basically sugar water and it’s going to be the most expensive sugar water that you will ever buy. Even with all of the automation and discounting the price fixing it’s still a land and labor intensive way of making sugar vs. growing cane or corn. But I can’t say that it’s not delicious.

That’s not really what I meant, but I do get you on the name. I got “nebula” from that, obviously, and paired with it with “fox” to convey an enigmatic, mercurial nature. Pretty immature.

(I do think the detail oriented nature of my spergy rants and ramblings as well as my complete lack of common sense in where I invest my time are a bit difficult to reconcile with being a woman, though, wouldn’t you say? They tend to be more pragmatic when it comes to anything but dating. 🙂 )

Considering Mark 4 is almost a foot long, it’s not exactly edc, hence indeed unlikely to be available in many self defense situations .

Iirc, there a John Ringo sci-fi series with the premise of an advanced alien civilization extorting Earth for maple syrup tribute.

  151. @nebulafox

LOL my bad. My generation of American boys used the term “fox” to describe a hot girl. I can’t get that out of my head. Now I have real foxes living on my property, and they are definitely both sexes. Very cool, BTW.
