Remember last week’s crisis of the century about ICE white supremacist gynecologist performing hysterectomies on detained illegal immigrant women for Tom Buchanan eugenics reasons?

Well, surprise, surprise, it turns out the incompetent and/or shady gynecologist is Dr. Mahendra Amin, an immigrant from Kashmir.

But I thought immigrants like Dr. Mahendra Singh were Who We Are?

A country that encourages foreign doctors and dentists to administer health care shouldnt be suprised if many patients are intentionally hooked on drugs by providers, undergo uneccessary and unsuccessful surgeries quite often, and occasionally get sexually abused while under anesthesia.
Its stupid not to have your own doctor your own.

PM Narendra Modi is Gujarati and he built is career on a reputation for incorruptibility and competence. It’s true Gujaratis (like the ubiquitous Patels for instance) are more capitalistic than other Indians and perhaps that comes off as dishonest to idhiots from places where earning a living is considered a dirty thing.

"Yes, Indians in general and Gujarathis moreso tend to be more dishonest and incompetent than other people."

Not compared to Italians. In a letter responding to an inquiry about immigration in New Orleans, Mayor Joseph A. Shakspeare (1890's) expressed the common anti-Italian prejudice, complaining that the city had become attractive to "...the worst classes of Europe: Southern Italians and Sicilians...the most idle, vicious, and worthless people among us." He claimed they were "filthy in their persons and homes" and blamed them for the spread of disease, concluding that they were "without courage, honor, truth, pride, religion, or any quality that goes to make a good citizen".

  18. It’s pretty well-known that doctors from non-Western countries tend not to be very good and contain lots of people with personalities that would be unacceptable if they came from natives.

There is nobody to blame but the native doctors themselves who decided it was better to import doctors to more junior positions than to train more domestically and reduce their own labour arbitrage. (And even then, by how much?) A calling not a job my ass. Of course, credentialism means now we must pretend they’re the same and I think newer native doctors don’t have the same labour arbitrage and now have one worse than if they were only competing with other native trained doctors.

Of course, left unexamined is the very progressive case against it since almost any country exporting doctors needs them far more than the recipient country. These people left a place where they were far more needed and whose educational system trained them to go somewhere else for more money. I think there are more Somali doctors in the US than Somali.

A very powerful left progressive case against importing doctors. But then there are very powerful left progressive cases against immigration. Both profane against the new religion which says immigrants uber alles.

No, at least according to one Indian I questioned at length about this. He said India has tons of medical schools, of not-always sterling quality, that train people for nothing but a job in the West. India has all the doctors it needs.

  33. If my maff be rite, he graduated from Med Skoo at age 23 or 24 so he got to be good.

  34. Anon[177] • Disclaimer says:

I read the original complaint. There’s no evidence that he did more than two procedures that resulted in sterility. There was no context to allow judgment about whether the procedures were justified or not. The bulk of the complaint was that the holding facility was not ideal to prevent Covid spread.

The next most complained about thing was that ICE did not take detainees to the doctor when requested, not that they were forcing women to go to the doctor. For instance, the female (and probably black) guards would shred paper requests to go to the doctor. The detainees have iPads (believe it or not) issued by ICE, and they could use a webapp to also make a request. These left an audio trail, so the guards would get pissed off when they were used. They would send in a nurse (black woman?) who would then sign if off as not a problem or taken care of. It was almost impossible to get a trip to the doctor.

Which brings us the women who manged to get taken to the hospital. They obviously had some condition that could not be ignored, like considerable bleeding. Some subset of these women, maybe two, at the independent non-ICE hospital when the visited the independent gynecologist got procedures that sterilized them. The complaint makes is sound more like a combination of language problems and regret afterwards. There were phrases in the complaint like “not sufficient explanation.”

The hysterectomy stuff was so weak that the complaint does not dwell on it. It’s just thrown in at the end.

There’s one nurse who I think was not anonymous, but every other source was a member of an activist group who spoke to some detainees, I’m sure with leading questions.

Finally, the document was not a legal document like a complaint to initiate a court lawsuit. It was in the nature of a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, self-styled as a whistleblower thing, although the hospital stuff did not involve ICE personnel or facilities.
